A new abortion law passed by New York’s Democratic-led state legislature and signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo permits abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, up to the very moment of birth, for almost any reason.
 
Conservative Christian author, radio broadcaster and family counselor Dr. James Dobson is calling it “pure barbarism on a scale rarely seen since the Middle Ages.”
 
The new law permits abortions if the mother’s life is at risk, which can be interpreted broadly to include protecting “mental health.” To celebrate the law, Cuomo ordered that One World Trade Center be illuminated in pink.
 
The law also moves abortion violations from the state’s penal code to the health code.
 
Dobson, founder and president of Family Talk as well as the James Dobson Family Institute, is an author and psychologist, has written dozens of books, counseled multiple presidents and was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2008.
 
“It is not overstating the matter to say I am horrified by the New York State Senate’s vote to pass the euphemistic Reproductive Health Act (RHA). This bill is not about reproductive health at all. It is pure barbarism on a scale rarely seen since the Middle Ages,” he said.
 
“This legislation expands upon New York’s already liberal abortion laws, which allow for on demand abortion up until 24 weeks. The RHA’s main aim is to justify abortions throughout a pregnancy’s entire term based on the overly broad exceptions defined in Roe’s companion case, Doe v. Bolton, including such subjective measures as a woman’s emotional and psychological wellbeing. Late term abortions had only previously been authorized in New York if done to save the life of the mother.”
 
He said New York already was considered the abortion capital of the nation, but this bill “also allows non-physicians to commit abortions, and decriminalizes abortion by moving it from the criminal code to the public-health code.”
 
“New York is symbolically doubling-down on the killing of the unborn on the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, casting an even darker shadow on a date already shrouded in tragedy and the loss of innocent life,” he said.
 
“This terrible news comes alongside an Iowa judge’s decision to strike down that state’s heartbeat bill, saying it violated the state’s constitution. In the exact opposite spirit to New York’s RHA, Iowa had prohibited abortions after a baby’s heartbeat is detectable, usually around six weeks into a pregnancy,” Dobson said.
 
“Make no mistake, these two setbacks only serve to further focus and energize our movement. I urge all pro-life Americans to call, write, and email your representatives and remind them that the majority of us in this country want the exact opposite of the RHA, a reduction — not an expansion — of abortion.
 
“Donate, march, and post on social media and use every tool and resource at your disposal to affect the change for which we are all praying so fervently. There is a battle raging for millions of lives preordained by God himself, and it is we who must stand for them so that they might have a chance at life.”
 
Lila Rose, president of the pro-life group Live Action, which has done undercover video investigations revealing the misbehavior of abortion-industry players, warned: “Convicted criminals aren’t subjected to the death penalty in New York state, but now children up until the ninth month of pregnancy can be given lethal injections and poisoned to death. This is no different than infanticide.”
 
She pointed out that pro-lifers in the state had fought successfully against the plan.
 
“But the November election put pro-abortion Democrats in control of both state houses, and Democrat politicians have made abortion on demand a priority. While the pro-abortion zealots in New York have won this battle, they will ultimately lose the war on abortion,” she said.
 
“New York’s law is barbaric and inhumane and rejects modern science and medical advancements that reveal the development and humanity of life in the womb. Millions of Americans are waking up to the barbaric reality of abortion and rejecting it. A recent Marist poll showed 75 percent of Americans believe abortion should be limited to – at most – the first three months of pregnancy. This includes 61 percent of those who identify as pro-choice, 60 percent of Democrats, and 78 percent of independents,” she said.
 
“One thing that this law reveals to the nation is the extent and the extremism of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which allows laws such as this one to exist. It was Roe that legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy in this country. If Roe is not soon overturned, any state could follow New York’s monstrous example.”

Amid charges his administration used the Justice Department and the FBI as a political weapon to undermine the Trump campaign in 2016, including a surveillance operation reported by the New York Times, former President Barack Obama insisted this week once again that his eight years in office were free of scandal.

“I didn’t have scandals, which seems like it shouldn’t be something you brag about,” Obama told the audience at a tech conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, reported Newsweek, which regarded the comment as a “light swing” at Trump.

Obama added that “if you look at the history of the modern presidency, coming out of the modern presidency without anybody going to jail is really good.”

“It’s a big deal,” he said.

Obama said he escaped scandal because he was able to accept bad news.

“No one in my White House ever got in trouble for screwing up as long there wasn’t malicious intent behind it,” he said.

Earlier this year, Newsweek noted, Obama made the same claim, telling an audience his administration “didn’t have a scandal that embarrassed us, I know that seems like a low bar.”

Newsweek acknowledged Obama’s “foes” would beg to differ. The magazine listed “the 2012 Benghazi attack, his failure to close Guantanamo Bay, an IRS plan to scrutinize tax-exempt political groups based on the particulars of their politics and problems with the Affordable Care Act website.”

In March, WND recalled 25 scandals that marred the Obama administration, and closing Gitmo was not on the list.

The Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, has turned in a draft report of his investigation of the Obama FBI’s handling of the probe of Hillary Clinton’s abuse of classified information.

On Monday, WND reported, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein asked Horowitz to review the claim that the Obama administration placed an FBI informant inside the Trump campaign in 2016 to conduct surveillance.
Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, which has filed at least 30 lawsuits in pursuit of records related to the Obama administration’s investigation of alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, told WND this week amid more Democrat talk of impeaching Trump that if anyone should be impeached, it’s Obama. He pointed to the recent revelation that the Obama administration placed an informant inside the Trump campaign and argued publicly available evidence and logic indicates Obama was involved.

Newsweek listed a “string of high-profile controversies” during Trump’s first year and a half in office, including “possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 election, a hush payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stephanie Clifford (known as Stormy Daniels), issuing a travel ban on people from certain countries, firing FBI director James Comey, saying there were ‘very fine people on both sides’ of the Charlottesville conflict, calling members of MS-13 ‘animals,’ and more.”

At the Las Vegas conference, Obama also discussed his process for making difficult decisions while in the White House.

“I used to describe the nature of the presidency as having to make decisions about issues that nobody else could solve or are basically insolvable or at least not perfectly solvable,” he said. “By definition, if a problem had an obvious solution to it, somebody else would have solved it before it got to me.”

He said the capture of Osama bin Laden was an example of those decisions.

Fight erupts over Obama strategy to dictate racial makeup of neighborhoods

A George Soros-endorsed social agency that receives funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under an Obama program to dictate the racial makeup of neighborhoods now is suing HUD for more money.

Judicial Watch documented the ironic development in a report titled “Federal Agency Known for Fraud, Waste Finances Own Attacks.”

At issue is the halt of the Obama program, called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing.

“The policy aims to transform nearly all of the nation’s neighborhoods with unprecedented low-income housing quotas and preferred ethnic and racial formulas,” the report explains.

It was delayed by HUD Secretary Ben Carson and finally suspended because a “tool” that was used to meet the AFFH requirements was “difficult to use and frequently produced unacceptable assessments.”

HUD said it spent more than $3.5 million on technical assistance for the initial round of AFFH submissions, and it just wasn’t working.

“HUD is withdrawing the tool to produce a more effective and less burdensome assessment tool,” the federal agency announced. “These improvements to the tool will make it more effective in assisting program participants with creation of meaningful assessments with impactful fair housing goals to help them plan to fulfill their legal obligation to affirmatively further fair housing.”

So immediately the National Fair Housing Alliance, a “nonprofit dedicated to ending housing discrimination and fostering diverse, inclusive communities,” and funded by HUD as well as Soros, sued HUD.

“Here’s an amusing – and unbelievable – story about the most overtly communist agency in the U.S. government financing its own attacks with taxpayer money,” Judicial Watch reported.

Carson first had delayed AFFH, describing the program as “a government-engineered attempt to legislative racial equality.”

Then he went further and suspended it, drawing the NFHA lawsuit.

“Records obtained by Judicial Watch show that the NFHA got more than $16 million in funding from HUD since 2009, including a $300,000 grant that was just awarded in March 2018 for fair housing enforcement. In 2016 NFHA received $475,000 from Soros’ Foundation to Promote Open Society specifically for ‘project support for AFFH work,’ documents obtained by Judicial Watch show. In the HUD complaint NFHA claims that killing Obama’s program was ‘arbitrary and capricious’ and ‘constitutes unlawful agency action,'” the Judicial Watch report said.

It also accuses Carson of being hostile towards AFFH long before he was named HUD secretary.

“In an article published in 2015, Secretary Carson criticized the AFFH Rule at length, equating it to ‘mandatory busing’ of schoolchildren.’ He condemned both the AFFH Rule and a Supreme Court decision recognizing that the Fair Housing Act bars disparate impact discrimination, stating that ‘based on the history of failed socialist experiments in this country, entrusting the government to get it right can prove downright dangerous,'” the complaint alleges.

The report said HUD itself has been plagued by multiple scandals in recent years.

“HUD was long overdue to deliver good news to American taxpayers and killing AFFH is a good start,” Judicial Watch said.

“Even after the Trump administration took over, HUD has continued funding many of Obama’s wasteful, socialist programs. Among them is a multi-million-dollar experiment that aims to transform slums into desirable middle-class neighborhoods. A few months ago the initiative, known as Choice Neighborhoods, got a $5 million infusion from the Trump administration.

“Before that Trump’s HUD gave dozens of leftist groups that purport to fight housing discrimination $37 million. The biggest chunk – $999,962 – went to NFHA, which had just attacked the president for terminating an Obama program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals—DACA) that protects hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants living in the U.S.,” Judicial Watch said.

I want to commend you on calling out the anti-trust practices of Amazon.com, which is threatening the very existence of other smaller, independent shippers across the nation.
 
While Americans obviously like the convenience and innovation Amazon has demonstrated as a company, it has far exceeded the threshold of becoming a monopoly that will eventually, once all vestiges of competition in e-commerce and fulfillment are effectively squashed, demand from consumers extortionist prices while exploiting its own workers beyond any acceptable American standards.
 
Though government action of this kind should always be circumspect and restrained, Amazon’s unfair business practices have been ignored by Washington for too long.
 
But the problem is much bigger than Amazon when it comes to the new cartel emerging among online mega-giants.
 
That two companies – Google and Facebook – now control 75 percent or more of the digital advertising marketplace is of even greater concern because it threatens the very spirit of the First Amendment in an increasingly nationalized media environment.
 
Not that long ago, the federal government routinely reviewed media cross-ownership efforts in individual local and regional markets to ensure that news and opinions were not controlled by a single company and a single political and cultural point of view. Yet, today, Google, its wholly owned subsidiary YouTube, and Facebook have become the principal source of news distribution – a powerful gatekeeper, with a common leftist worldview, that actively shows contempt for dissenting voices, especially those on the right as well as faithful Christians and Jews.
 
If not checked during your administration, America may never regain its diversity of media voices as many independent efforts like my own pioneering effort in the online world will be strangled by these entities’ systemic, organized campaign to destroy us.
 
As you know, the independent media played a significant role in the 2016 election in bringing forth viewpoints that were scarcely heard elsewhere among the din of Hillary-mania. Since your election, Google, YouTube and Facebook have waged an unrelenting war of unfair trade practices against the independent media that threatens its very existence.
 
Congress and regulatory agencies have shown little understanding and awareness of just how serious this threat has become. With dissenting media voices out of the picture, America’s heritage of free speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion will be reduced to little more than well-intended but meaningless words on parchment.
 
At least two of these giant corporations have decided recently to employ the leftist extremist organization called the Southern Poverty Law Center to serve as a kind of speech and content police force to set standards for online searches, algorithms and visibility on the internet – what has become the new national and international public square.
 
While some other nations welcome this control and even encourage it to stamp out viewpoints with which they disagree, that is not the American way.
 
I call on you today to set up a presidential commission to investigate these giants for these business practices that are not just unfair but detrimental – and even lethal – to the interests of a free and open society.

Dyed-in-the-wool evolutionary scientists have the same problem.
And when 33 of them got together to come up with a new peer-reviewed scientific study of the mystery, they determined octopuses could just be aliens from outer space.
That doesn’t mean the idea is being taken altogether seriously by the rest of the scientific community, yet, so far, there’s been no call to ex-communicate the 33 credentialed scholars from the academy. Apparently, that is a distinction reserved only for those who question the dogma of evolution as the only acceptable explanation for the diversity of life on Earth.
However, the paper, published in Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology, has been scoffed at as hair-brained and unscientific – as one might expect.
The extraterrestrial claims not only apply to octopuses, suggests the study, but other life forms that seem to have appeared suddenly in the annals of Earth’s history during what is called “the Cambrian explosion,” a somewhat uncomfortable discovery for evolutionary science.
The discovery of the “Cambrian explosion” – a sudden burst of sophisticated life forms – has always been a challenge for evolutionary science, which requires eons of time to explain not only life forming from non-life, but also the diversification of animal life. To solve part of that problem, evolutionists set the epoch some 500 million years ago, based on geological strata and the assumption that the Earth has not witnessed major catastrophic changes and upheavals, such as a global flood, in that time period.
But even with that self-serving, non-scientific, philosophical and, dare I say, “religious” assessment, the “Cambrian explosion” remains a troublesome and disturbing period for evolution.
In fact, during this period, virtually all animal kinds appeared simultaneously – and they resemble the animal kingdom we are familiar with today. There’s been diversification, of course, but not new animal life forms that cannot be explained through adaptation rather than what we think of as “macro-evolution” – one kind, or species, changing into another kind.

WEST VIRGINIA 7TH-GRADERS TOLD TO DECLARE SUBMISSION TO ALLAH

Seventh-graders at a West Virginia public school were asked to write the Islamic declaration of faith in Arabic calligraphy in a social-studies class, drawing outrage from a Christian parent.
Parent Rich Penkoski contacted Principal Ron Branch at Mountain Ridge Middle School in Gerrardstown about the assignment, which was part of a world-religions unit, the Christian Post reported.
The assignment was included in a packet sent home with students of information about the history of Islam, the prophet Muhammad and the five pillars of the religion.
But Penkoski, the Christian Post said, was most upset with a worksheet that instructs students to practice calligraphy by copying by hand the Arabic form of the Shahada.
The Shahada is the Islamic profession of faith that declares Allah is the one true god and Muhammad is his messenger.
“I saw the assignment of writing the Shahada in Arabic. Their excuse was calligraphy,” Penkoski told the Christian Post. “I was like, ‘Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!’ First of all, calligraphy was invented in China 3,000 years prior to Muhammad. The fact that they were trying to get my daughter to write that disturbed me.’
“I said, ‘That is not happening. My daughter is not doing that,'” he said. “My daughter told me that if she didn’t do the assignment then she was going to get a [detention] slip.”

Penkoski said the school told him the packet was an optional assignment. But he claims the school is only now saying it is optional because of his protest.
“Why would they print all that out and then tell them they don’t have to do it?” Penkoski asked. “When they were given a packet [on Christianity], which didn’t go into that much detail, they did have to write an essay. So you’re telling me they don’t have to do it now that I called you on it? It makes no sense and it is not consistent.”
Penkoski said his daughter claimed the teacher told her the Shahada assignment was mandatory.
Principal Ron Branch told the Christian Post in an email the Shahada calligraphy was not officially assigned to students.
“There were two calligraphy activities in the packet. One involving the Shahada and one that is just English letters in which the students can write whatever they want in calligraphy,” Branch said. “The teacher told the students that they could do these activities if they wanted.”
Branch said the world religions unit gives each religion “equitable treatment.”

SCHOOL BOARD STUNNER: THERE IS NO 'BIOLOGICAL SEX'
Plans to overhaul graphic 'Family Life Education' curriculum also tells kids 'clergy' not to be trusted

In an apparent competition among American public school boards to see which sex-education program can be made the most graphic and politically correct, there’s likely a new leader.
In a stunning development, the Fairfax County School Board in Northern Virginia is considering teaching children there is no such thing as “biological sex” and also that “clergy” are not to be trusted if students have questions.
Within just the past few weeks, WND has reported on the Albemarle district in Virginia, which was warned its explicit sex videos to classes of 14-year-old girls likely were felony violations of state and federal laws.
And the Sunnyside Unified School District in Tucson, Arizona, was warned that its proposed sex-ed program is both “illegal” and “obscene.”
Now, according to the Family Research Council, comes the Fairfax board.
“Already, each public school student must suffer through 80 hours of sex ed. That’s not a typo: 8-0,” the report said. “They call it ‘Family Life Education’ but everybody knows that’s a joke. You won’t find lessons on building happy marriages and healthy families here. No, instead you’ll find hour after hour of instruction on your evolving ‘sexual identity,’ on the proper handling of contraceptive drugs and devices, and on how to give consent for sex.”
But the report by Cathy Ruse said the move to something less “repressive” was being considered.
She noted among the ideas being reviewed was to teach children “they weren’t actually born male or female. Advisers scrubbed ‘biological sex’ from all lessons and in its place put the politically charged ‘gender-fluid’ propaganda term ‘sex assigned at birth.’ As one adviser explained: ‘Biological sex is meaningless!'”
Further, the board’s plan is to teach seventh and eighth grade students “to embrace transgender identity, but don’t tell them about the risks.”
“Advisers voted against telling children about any of the health risks and side effects from ‘gender transitioning.'”
The board also wants to stop teaching students “abstinence is the only 100 percent effective method” to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
But they are to be taught “how to use every imaginable contraceptive drug, device, and cream.”
They want to make lessons on dating and family mandatory, meaning students would not be able to opt out, mostly likely.
And they want to remove an “offensive” word.
“The sex ed advisers have finally identified a word that was too offensive for students to hear. They voted to strip the word ‘clergy’ from the list of trusted adults that students might consult with sexual identity concerns.”
FRC said the district in Falls Church, Virginia, is taking comments on the plan until June 8.
“Fairfax kids deserve better. And the Fairfax School Board members need to find another line of work,” the FRC report said.

CHRISTIAN THERAPIST FIRED OVER BIBLICAL MARRIAGE BELIEFS

A longtime licensed clinical social worker who was ordered to be a “social worker first, Catholic second” and then fired because of her biblical beliefs about marriage is suing the agency that dismissed her.
The suit was filed by the Thomas More Law Center on behalf of Kathleen Lorentzen.
Lorentzen had asked permission from her former employer, HealthSource Saginaw in Michigan, for permission to refer a homosexual duo to another counselor for “marriage” counseling.
She then was fired.

Tyler Brooks, senior counsel for TMLC, said the case shows “that people of faith are under assault in the workplace.”
“The fact is, however, that Christians need not choose between their faith and their jobs. Despite what many would have us believe, discrimination against Christians is a civil rights violation that will subject employers to legal liability,” Brooks explained.
Lorentzen had no issue with counseling homosexual patients, except that this duo was coming for marriage counseling.
She wanted to refer them to someone else, because seeing them on that issue “would violate her religious beliefs and practices regarding the sanctity of marriage as the union between one man and one woman.”
The legal team charged that her supervisor “became angry with her when she asked to refer the couple to another therapist, as was her right under Title VII.”

A middle-age Swedish woman who took an 18-year-old Afghan refugee into her home as her lover refused to report the young man to police when he sexually assaulted her daughter, 12, reported the Swedish news site, FriaTider.
“I was afraid he would be sent back to Afghanistan,” said the unidentified woman, who works in a residential-care home for children and teens.
Ironically, the woman is active in Sweden’s #MeToo movement against sexual assault, reports FriaTider.
The #MeToo movement has been particularly active in Sweden. In the fall of 2017, tens of thousands in different industries signed petitions through their unions against sexual abuse and harassment. Thousands of women have published testimonials, exposing their alleged perpetrators.

A movement to make English the official language in all government documents and public discourse is gaining steam, with 32 states having adopted legislation or a constitutional amendment.
Michigan is the latest to introduce legislation, says a non-profit helping lead the charge, ProEnglish.
HB 4053, which has been approved by a state House committee, would require that English be the language used in all public records, although a state agency or local unit of government could print official documents in both English and another language.
Michigan state Rep. Lee Chatfield, a Republican, explained why he’s behind the bill.
“I think it’s important that we attempt to be unified in this state. It simply puts into legislation something that’s already a reality in the state,” he said.

After insisting for more than three decades that human activity was driving the earth’s temperatures to dangerous levels, climate scientists and activists now contend that same activity is keeping the planet artificially cool and that cleaning up the atmosphere will leave us feeling the heat.
On Jan. 22, an online article for Scientific American makes the claim that certain parts of the pollution created by human behavior are actually preventing us from feeling the impact of the other emissions we spew into the air.

“Pollution in the atmosphere is having an unexpected consequence, scientists say – it’s helping to cool the climate, masking some of the global warming that’s occurred so far. That means efforts worldwide to clean up the air may cause an increase in warming, as well as other climate effects, as this pollution disappears,” wrote Chelsea Harvey for the Scientific American story.

“New research is helping to quantify just how big that effect might be. A study published this month in the journal ‘Geophysical Research Letters’ suggests that eliminating the human emission of aerosols – tiny, air-polluting particles often released by industrial activities – could result in additional global warming of anywhere from half a degree to 1 degree Celsius,” added Harvey.
So after years of telling people their activity is responsible for the climate we experience, climate activists are now claiming our behavior is responsible for not feeling what we’ve supposedly caused?
Competitive Enterprise Institute senior fellow Christopher C. Horner is not buying it.
“To put it gently, it is a more recent, if recycled, way of trying to explain how their lurid climate projections have not come to pass,” said Horner, who also served on President-elect Trump’s landing team at the Environmental Protection Agency during the transition.
“They’re now saying, ‘My models, which I said were OK, on which we were supposed to base economic policy … were actually wrong.’ That’s what they’re saying here. They’re just saying, ‘My models are wrong and this is my excuse,'” Horner told WND and Radio America.

He said the climate-change movement is scrambling to explain dire predictions that simply have not materialized.
“All of the claimed warming has failed to arrive,” Horner explained. “There seems to have been a several-decade plateau. Yes, we have El Niño and La Niña years, but the projected warming hasn’t occurred.”
Horner said these supposed experts are flailing and now claim any weather event is directly related to human activity throwing the planet’s climate off course.
“In just 2014, the New York Times wrote ‘The End of Snow.’ They do this every mild winter,” Horner said. “Then severe winter returns with a vengeance and a great sense of humor, and they write ‘More Snow in A Warming World, the Science is Clear.’ That’s an actual headline, just a year after writing ‘No Snow in A Warming World, the Science is Settled.'”
And he said it’s not just an issue when winters vary in severity, noting the same response happens with natural disasters. Horner said former Vice President Al Gore responded to the devastating hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005 by proclaiming that the climate problems he warned us about had arrived and the destruction we saw was the new normal.
For more than a decade after that, no major hurricanes made landfall in the U.S.
“So the lack of hurricanes was somehow attributable to catastrophic man-made global warming. ‘Which time are you lying?’ I suppose is the question,” Horner said. “The increase in storms, the absence of storms, is it everything? Even when it’s just right, Goldilocks, is that because of your faith in catastrophic man-made global warming?”

In an unexpected twist, a federal civil-rights lawsuit alleges a Michigan school district’s imposition of a transgender-rights agenda on students and parents violates the very rights created by the Supreme Court decision that established “same-sex marriage.”
It is the first lawsuit in the nation claiming a person’s religious identity is protected by the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges marriage case, according to the legal team that filed suit against the Williamston Community Schools public district and its board.
The claim, filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Southern Division, outlines “numerous civil rights and constitutional violations rising from policies recently passed by the school board,” the lawyers at the Great Lakes Justice Center explain.

“In the last few days alone, groups of illegal aliens boarded planes at airports in Texas and Arizona accompanied by a taxpayer-funded government escort in civilian clothes to avoid drawing attention,” Judicial Watch reported Friday. “The first flight originated at Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas, and was bound for Minneapolis. The second left from Tucson International Airport and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, federal sources said.”
In both cases, illegal immigrants, who appeared to be in their teens, were reportedly escorted by Health and Human Services chaperones.
Judicial Watch said Friday that “high-ranking Homeland Security officials” confirmed its report. The organization said it reached out to HHS for comment but hadn’t received a response from the agency. WND requested comment from HHS on Monday but hadn’t received a reply at the time of this report.

The Department of Justice has refused to disclose how much tax money special counsel Robert Mueller is spending, further undermining public confidence in his probe of allegations the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
The problem with Mueller’s investigation is that it’s been running a year now, and no evidence of collusion has turned up.
The concealment of the budget was confirmed in a letter from the Department of Justice to Washington watchdog Judicial Watch.
“A search has been conducted in the Special Counsel’s Office and seven pages were located that contain records responsive to your client’s request. We have determined that this material should be withheld in full because it is protected from disclosure under the [Freedom of Information Act],” the Justice Department said.
The DOJ cited provisions for “certain inter- and intra-agency records” that are part of the “deliberative process privilege” as well as claims that those records “could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings.”

The group has filed a religious discrimination lawsuit against the university.
“Christians who take a stand face some tough battles,” Graham said in a Facebook post. “A Christian student group called Business Leaders in Christ at the University of Iowa lost their license to operate as well as their activity fee funding – they can’t even reserve campus meeting space! All because the group denied a leadership position to a gay student and he filed a complaint. The school said they were discriminating. The group said that anyone can become a member, but leaders must affirm a statement of faith that upholds God’s standards, and the Bible says that homosexuality is sin. I’m proud of these courageous young people for being faithful to Biblical truth. Pray for them as they have challenged the school’s religious discrimination with legal action.”

But beginning April 1 every person who gets a California driver’s license will be automatically entitled to vote.

Civil rights fight moves up to full 3rd Circuit

Two street preachers are targeted, confronted and eventually arrested by transit officers who insist that they stop talking about their Christian beliefs without getting the agency’s permission first, and the courts say that’s all right.

But the Rutherford Institute thinks otherwise, and that’s why it’s seeking a rehearing before the entire 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in a First Amendment case involving preachers Don Karns and Robert Parker.

A panel of the appeals court previously ruled that the two transit officers, Kathleen Shanahan and Sandra McKeon Crowe, were justified in ordering the preachers to be quiet, grilling them over their activities, and then arresting and charging them – all because they were sharing their beliefs in a public location.

“This case sheds light on a disconcerting bureaucratic mindset that wants us to believe that the government has the power to both bestow rights on the citizenry and withdraw those rights when it becomes necessary, whether it’s the right to proselytize on a train platform, the right to address one’s representatives at a city council meeting, or the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures,” said constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead, president of the Rutherford Institute.

“Yet those who founded this country believed that our rights are unalienable, meaning that no man or government can take them away from us. Thus, the problem in this case is not the absence of any specific law allowing free speech on the train platform. Rather, the problem is government officials who have forgotten that they work for us and their primary purpose is to safeguard our rights.”

Rutherford is seeking a rehearing in the case that erupted when Karns and Parker were preaching at a Princeton, New Jersey, train station.

They were charged with trespass and obstruction of justice but eventually cleared of the charges.

They then sued the New Jersey Transit Corp. and the officers over the demand that they “obtain a permit” to talk, non-commercially, with others at the public station.

The appeals court panel said the officers were immune from claims that they violated the preachers’ constitutional rights – under the First, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.

It was on June 26, 2012, when Karns and Parker began sharing their Christian beliefs with members of the public at the Princeton Junction Station of the NJTC.

“No notices were posted at the station prohibiting or restricting First Amendment activities,” Rutherford explained.

But they quickly were confronted by Shanahan and Crowe, who first demanded identification, then told them they could not speak without the agency’s permission.

When Karns and Parker asserted the train station was a public area, they were arrested.

After they were cleared of those counts, the Rutherford Institute filed a civil rights case against the officers for discriminating against them on the basis of the religious content of their speech.

Days after announcing it was withholding $65 million from a U.N. agency supporting Palestinian refugees, the United States announced it will not provide a separate $45 million it had pledged to the agency, according to the State Department.

As WND reported, the State Department announced Tuesday it is withholding $65 million the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, UNWRA, warning any additional U.S. donations would depend on changes in how the agency operates and is funded. In 2016, the U.S. donated $355 million to UNWRA.

The $45 million allotment was meant for food aid as part of the UNRWA’s West Bank/Gaza Emergency Appeal.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert explained to reporters Thursday that the $45 million was not a guarantee.

“At this time, we will not be providing that, but that does not mean — I want to make it clear — that does not mean that it will not be provided in the future,” Nauert said.

“Money coming in from other countries needs to increase as well to continue paying for all those refugees,” she said, adding that the U.N. agency needs to reform.

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, called the State Department’s freezing of funds “cruelty” toward an “innocent and vulnerable population,” Reuters reported.

The Palestinian envoy to Washington, Husam Zomlot, said Palestinian refugees “and children’s access to basic humanitarian services, such as food, health care and education, is not a bargaining chip but a U.S. and international obligation.”

However, noted Islam expert Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch, contended the move “is not about cutting food money, contrary to the lies of Husam Zumlot and others.”

“The UNRWA has multiple links to jihad terror. It is a viciously corrupt and dishonest organization, bent on enabling the jihad against Israel and willing to lie brazenly in the process. Every penny of U.S. aid should be withheld from the UNRWA, permanently,” he said.

In August, UNRWA was reported to be under scrutiny by the U.S. Congress and the Israeli Knesset for links to terrorism, with evidence Hamas runs military programs with live weapons for tens of thousands of Palestinian children who attend UNRWA schools.

UNRWA in June was caught using images of a girl in a bombed-out building in Syria in a major global fundraising campaign, falsely claiming the girl was a victim of Israel in Gaza.

On Jan. 2, President Trump tweeted that the U.S. gives the Palestinians “HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year and get no appreciation or respect.”

Trump said that “with the Palestinians no longer willing to talk peace, why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?”

Spencer remarked regarding the previous withheld allotment that it is “$65 million that the ‘Palestinians’ won’t have to give to jihad terrorists.”

Trump has vowed to curtail aid to the Palestinians for a number of reasons, including the Palestinian Authority’s payment of “salaries” to convicted terrorists.”

The U.S. contributes about $600 million annually to the PA, totaling more than $5.2 billion since 1994.

WND reported last week a British citizen who was brutally attacked by Palestinian Authority-sponsored terrorists is asking the British Parliament to investigate whether funds the U.K. has provided to the PA are being used to promote terrorism and support jailed terrorists. Israel’s Defense Ministry found that the PA spent a total of $358 million, or about 7 percent of its total annual budget, on terrorist stipends last year.

‘It is time for this absurdity to end’

The U.S. is the largest donor to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, providing nearly 30 percent of its budget. The agency serves some 5 million Palestinian refugees from the 1948 war and their descendants in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the U.N., applauded the curbing of aid to UNRWA by the U.S., arguing the agency uses the money to support propaganda against Israel and maintain the refugee situation for political purposes.

“It is time for this absurdity to end and for humanitarian funds to be directed towards their intended purpose: the welfare of refugees,” Danon said in a statement.
Israel accuses the U.N. agency of aiding and abetting Palestinian terrorism and asserts UNRWA’s staff betray bias against Israel.

State Department spokeswoman Nauert said other nations need to share some of the financial burden.

“We don’t believe that taking care of other nations and other people have to be solely the United States’ responsibility,” she said.

A top-secret memo that has been released to members of Congress, but still is being withheld from the American public, characterizes Barack Obama as “the vengeful narcissist” and alleges surveillance abuses by his administration that one representative likened to the work of Russia’s KGB.

The document, released to members by the House Intelligence Committee, centers on the the controversy over unmasking and FISA surveillance, reported FoxNews.com.

The House Intelligence Committee Thursday approved a motion by Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., to release it to all House members, with Democrats opposing the move.

Lawmakers said they could not yet discuss the contents, but now there’s an effort to make the memo available to the public.

The fight encompasses the Democrats’ claims that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, the subject of special counsel Robert Mueller’s multi-million dollar investigation, and the so-called anti-Trump “dossier.”

While Democrats continue to maintain that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to defeat Hillary Clinton in 2016, there’s evidence the Democrats paid for the largely discredited dossier, which may have then been used by the Obama administration as the basis for surveillance of Trump campaign officials.

Author, former Secret Service agent and former congressional candidate Dan Bongino tweeted: “Take it to the bank, the FBI/FISA docs are devastating for the Dems. The whole image of a benevolent Barack Obama they’ve disingenuously tried to portray is about to be destroyed. The real Obama, the vengeful narcissist, is going to be exposed.”

FoxNews.com reported Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, was among the lawmakers calling for the release of the memo documenting FISA abuses.

“It is so alarming the American people have to see this,” he said.

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said, “Part of me wishes that I didn’t read it because I don’t want to believe that those kinds of things could be happening in this country that I call home and love so much.”

Others commented that making the document public likely would cause some people to lose their jobs.

“You think about, ‘is this happening in America or is this the KGB?’ That’s how alarming it is,” Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., said.

Tyler Durden commented at Zerohedge: “All hell is breaking loose in Washington, D.C., after a four-page memo detailing extensive FISA court abuse was made available to the entire House of Representatives Thursday. The contents of the memo are so explosive, says journalist Sara Carter, that it could lead to the removal of senior officials in the FBI and the Department of Justice and the end of Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation.”

He said an “educated guess by anyone who’s been paying attention for the last year leads to the obvious conclusion that the report reveals extensive abuse of power and highly illegal collusion between the Obama administration, the FBI, the DOJ and the Clinton Campaign against Donald Trump and his team during and after the 2016 presidential election.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said the “facts contained in this memo are jaw-dropping and demand full transparency.”

“There is no higher priority than the release of this information to preserve our democracy,” he said.

Gaetz said the memo’s contents explain why Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Judiciary Subcommittee chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., “recently referred the Fusion GPS dossier author Christopher Steele for a criminal investigation.”

The Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC funded the dossier, which “was reportedly part of the evidence FBI officials used to apply for and obtain a warrant through a secret FISA court to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.”

A court in California has delivered a major blow to the use of restrictive “free speech zones” by colleges, which often relegate unwanted viewpoints  to the backwaters of their properties.

Judge Otis Wright II of the U.S. District Court in California has ruled that a complaint brought by a student against Pierce College in the Los Angeles Community College District can go to trial.

The campus-liberty group Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, or FIRE, noted that while there have been many such cases, this one was set apart because the Department of Justice intervened, siding with the student and against the college and its “free speech zone.”

The Justice Department’s brief said: “Under the First Amendment, there is a heavy presumption against the validity of prior restraints. The First Amendment prohibits ‘regulations that confer unbridled discretion on a permitting or licensing official.'”

The DOJ argued college rules “must not foreclose the speakers’ ability to reach their intended audience.”

“Mr. Shaw is a student at Pierce College and is seeking to engage in speech in outdoor areas and sidewalks – not classrooms or other spaces that are more appropriately characterized as non-public fora,” the Justice Department brief states. “These outdoor areas and sidewalks almost certainly constitute designated public fora as to Mr. Shaw. … Mr. Shaw has sufficiently pleaded a claim that the college’s limitations on speech outside the Free Speech Zone violate the First Amendment.”

Shaw said at the time he was “humbled” to have the support of the Department of Justice.

“Their statement affirms what I’ve believed all along – that the First Amendment is essential to American progress, and nowhere more so than on a college campus,” he said.

The recent court ruling said individual college employees are not liable for monetary damages.

But it also ruled that open spaces for public colleges such as L.A. Pierce are open forums, “regardless of Pierce’s regulations.”

FIRE said that means the lawsuit will move forward on the First Amendment violation claims.

“Ruling that the campus of a public university, including open spaces, are public forums renders L.A. Pierce College’s free speech zone unconstitutional,” the FIRE report said. “As stated in the order, ‘This characterization makes sense, because after all, what is a university’s purpose but to expose students to new ideas and spark dialogue?'”

Cliff Maloney Jr., president of Young Americans for Liberty, said it is “promising to hear the court upholding the First Amendment and defending Kevin’s right to free speech on campus, despite the university being blissfully unaware of their absurdly limiting policies.”

“This is exactly why YAL continues to fight the good fight for liberty,” he said.

FIRE’s Beck-Coon said court’s ruling “sends an important message to colleges nationwide that still restrict student speech to free speech zones.”

“The campus is a college student’s public square. It’s their space to be engaged citizens. The public recognizes this. So do courts across the country. Now it’s time for LACCD to follow suit,” Beck-Coon said.

Nearly a year ago, Shaw tried to hand out copies of the U.S. Constitution – in Spanish – to recruit members for his Young Americans for Liberty chapter.

He was on a sidewalk that runs through campus. But officials ordered him to stop the distribution of the Constitution, saying he could do it on only 616 square feet of the 426-acre campus, about .003 percent of the total.

That would be a parcel the size of a classroom hidden in two-thirds of a square mile, or 18 million square feet.

“FIRE is grateful for the Department of Justice’s decision to file a statement of interest in our lawsuit,” said Beck-Coon. “As the department rightly recognizes, these policies severely restrict the expressive rights of all students on each of the nine district campuses. We cannot allow the First Amendment rights that Kevin Shaw and his fellow students possess to be taken away by administrative fiat.”

The lawsuit is against the nation’s largest community college district, which serves an estimated 150,000 students.

President Trump already has addressed a list of the concerns of evangelical Christians, one of his largest blocs of support.

He’s overturned Obama’s mandates that religious groups fund abortion and that public schools allow boys into girls’ restrooms and locker rooms.

He’s refocused the priority of the refugee program from receiving Muslims from Muslims countries to receiving Christians who are being persecuted in Muslim countries.

He allows Bible studies for his staff, he’s recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and he’s made an issue of using the words “Merry Christmas.”

He’s working on limiting transgenders in the military.

Now he’s going one step further, creating a Division on Conscience and Religious Freedom within HHS’ Office of Civil Rights to protect health care providers from being forced to provide services that violate their faith.

The move could lead to new protections for Christian bakers who refuse to violate their faith and promote same-sex “weddings,” venue owners who do the same, faith-based universities caught in “equal protection” cases and pro-life organizations told they must promote abortion.

Michael Adams of SAGE, a team of activists for the homosexual and lesbian lifestyle, said the announcement “allowing healthcare providers to deny LGBT, and especially, transgender patients and others critical care in the name of religion – is a horrifying next step.”

He suggested Christians should be forced to provide services that homosexuals demand.

“Everyone has the freedom, under the First Amendment, to practice their religion, but when deep morals or religious convictions overshadow the responsibility to provide care to sick and dying people, it is dangerous for our nation.”

Rea Carey of the National LGBTQ Task Force echoed the criticism.

“We are not fooled: The new office announced this morning is meant to make it easier for people to discriminate, not to protect people of faith. Health professionals have a duty to care for all their patients regardless of one’s gender identity, sexual orientation, faith, creed, race, political views, gender, or disability, and no one should be denied care for being who they are.”

Likewise, Vanita Gupta of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights blasted the president.

“Discrimination is not an American value, period. This proposed rule would allow providers to ignore their medical training and guidelines, and instead allow their personal religious beliefs to determine how a patient should be treated.”

On the other side, Kristen Waggoner of the Alliance Defending Freedom said: “One of the freedoms Americans have cherished most is the freedom to live according to their faith and conscience, free from government coercion. That freedom is what separates America from so many other nations.

“For that reason, we commend HHS for creating its new Division on Conscience and Religious Freedom within its Office of Civil Rights. Over recent years, we have seen the government repeatedly violate constitutionally protected freedoms. Government should serve as freedom’s greatest protector, not its greatest threat. This new office will help ensure that HHS acts in accordance with its duty to honor Americans’ freedom of religion and conscience rather than coerce nuns, faith-based universities, Christian-run family businesses, and pro-life organizations to speak and live contrary to their own beliefs”

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council explained: “Religious liberty isn’t found in political proclamations, but in the policies they inspire. Today is another moment in which President Trump’s promises are becoming a reality. The formation of a new HHS division devoted to enforcing civil rights and conscience laws demonstrates that we have a president committed to the Constitution and the values it protects.

“Under President Obama, the federal government failed to enforce federal laws in place to ensure hard working Americans aren’t unfairly punished by the government for simply seeking to live their lives according to their beliefs. This is a freedom that has been a fundamental part of our society since the beginning of our nation and is cemented in federal law.”

He continued: “Healthcare providers and others protected under federal conscience laws should be greatly encouraged that HHS will address any government actions taken against those who have objections to participating in an abortion or purchasing health insurance that includes abortion. Americans should not be forced to choose between their faith and their desire to help patients.”

At the Christian Medical and Dental Association, spokesman David Stevens said, “Our members have been discriminated against and some have even lost positions for speaking out.”

CMDA Vice President Jonathan Imbody explained: “Some today would portray religious freedom as just one of many rights to be balanced with or even subordinated to other factors, especially in cases involving controversial social issues. But our Constitution’s framers wisely recognized that religious freedom must rise above cultural clashes and political debates as a foundational, natural and unalienable right.

“If the government or others can tell us what to believe, prevent us from exercising our core convictions or coerce us into acting against our conscience, what remains of our freedom?”

Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel said it will provide protections so that healthcare providers cannot be forced to do abortion, for one thing.

Likewise, Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., said Trump “highlighted America’s forgotten men and women, the people who have felt strangely exempted from the promises of the American dream.”

“Too many of our countrymen have watched their industries, schools, and communities wither under policies engineered by an administration that chronically underestimated our people,” Collins said.

As the government announced the move, HHS Acting Secretary Eric Hargan described a scenario that would need to be addressed.
“For too long, too many health care practitioners have been bullied and discriminated against because of their religious beliefs and moral convictions, leading many of them to wonder what future they have in our medical system. The federal government and state governments have hounded religious hospitals and the men and women who staff them, forcing them to provide or refer for services that violate their consciences, when they only wish to serve according to their religious beliefs,” Hargan said.
House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said one of the first issues that should be tackled is the California law that demands pro-life crisis pregnancy centers promote abortion.

The writer says he’s outraged at America’s global war on terror, which has lasted more than 16 years, and he cites the tragic consequences of war: civilian and military deaths, post-traumatic stress disorder and veteran homelessness.

“The history of America is one simply defined by warfare on behalf bourgeoisie class interests, land acquisition, genocide, slavery, and imperialism. Other than the constant turmoil, destruction, and evil that has accompanied American conquest, another constant has remained,” he writes. “That constant is the American soldier.”

Americans say they support their troops, pin up yellow ribbons, stand for the national anthem and “come just shy of licking the combat boots used to snuff the life of poor brown folks around the world,” the veteran claims. But he adds: “I am a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. A former noncommissioned officer of the US military, and I am as much a war criminal as any imperialist foot soldier in history.”

In fact, all U.S. soldiers have been duped into being America’s “storm-troopers of an evil empire,” according to the writer:

[A]s we enter the 242nd year of American empire, I have a hard time finding any semblance of justice within our current State. I offer this up to my fellow soldiers, my veteran comrades, those on the fence. The constant of American imperialism and capitalist destruction was us, is us, and is you. You are the fodder, the bullet, the bomb, the very visible fist that smashes whenever and where ever the elite seek to exploit. They disguise you as peace keepers, as civil affair specialists, counter-insurgents, special operators, analysts, logisticians, medics, and grunts. You are simply the tools of capitalism. The destroyers of lives. The storm-troopers of an evil empire. …

The only way this is possible is because we are the constant. We persist and continue to enlist. We embody the bulls–t lies we’ve been fed. We revel in the empty thanks of an empty nation. We are endowed with a stigma that guarantees us a sh–ty steak, at a sh–ty chain restaurant, one day out a year. We are told that we can use this service to climb the socio-economic ladder, a tool of class escapism. It’s a lie, not worth the paper your DD214 is printed on. Not worth the healthcare, or the paycheck, or the college degree. None of it will buy back our souls. We are the embodiment of capitalist greed.

And if that’s not enough, the antifa writer issues his call to action, asking that soldiers and veterans “jump on the grenade that is dishonorable,” giving up health-care benefits and VA home loans.

“We have wrecked so much of this world. Destroyed so many lives, closed off the futures of millions, displaced even more,” the writer states. “We have done it for a uniform; for a gig; for a handshake, an adventure, a degree. We owe it to ourselves, and we owe it to our future. We must resist.”

WND asked the site: “What do these soldiers do once they’ve joined the rebellion? Is there an ultimate goal?

“What’s the plan? Oust President Trump? A violent revolution against authorities? Overthrow the country?”

Its Going Down hadn’t responded to the request for comment at the time of this report.

Shortly after President Trump announced his administration would end key payments to insurers selling Obamacare plans and not certify Iran’s compliance with the international nuclear deal President Obama helped broker, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper remarked on his nightly show that it was becoming clear the current president was trying to demolish his predecessor’s legacy.

“Never … have we seen a president so seemingly bent on reversing, negating, even obliterating his predecessor’s signature accomplishments,” Cooper said Oct. 14 on his show “Anderson Cooper 360.”

“If you want to know what President Trump is against, you only have to look at what President Obama was for, and in all fairness none of this should be a surprise. He campaigned on much of it, and if nothing else he’s keeping his promises now,” Anderson said.

Indeed, among a list of more than 170 first-year accomplishments WND has compiled, are countless reversals of Obama’s policies. Along with tackling Obama’s signature domestic and foreign policy accomplishments – Obamacare and the Iran deal – Trump notably has withdrawn the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accords and the Trans Pacific Partnership, and scrapped the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program for the children of illegal immigrants.

Here is a sampling of what Trump has done in his first year in office to reverse Obama’s legacy:

Obamacare

The failure to repeal and replace Obamacare is regarded as perhaps the biggest legislative failure of President Trump’s first year in office. Yet, Trump managed to eliminate the linchpin of Obama’s signature law, the individual mandate, through the tax-reform bill passed in December.

And now the administration is taking the first step toward implementing one of the most important planks of conservative health-care reform, selling insurance policies across state lines.

Trump signed an executive order Oct. 12 that directs three federal agencies to rewrite regulations to encourage the establishment of cheaper health plans that can be purchased across state lines and are not bound by certain Obamacare rules and regulations. Earlier this month, the Department of Labor published in the Federal Register a proposed rule that would accomplish that aim.

The Trump administration also has expanded religious and moral exemptions for mandated contraceptive coverage under Obamacare. The law required that nearly all insurance plans cover abortion-inducing drugs and contraception, forcing citizens to violate sincerely held religious or moral beliefs, pay steep fines, or forgo offering or obtaining health insurance entirely.

Immigration

The Department of Homeland Security released figures Dec. 4 showing Trump is delivering on his pledge to more strictly control immigration and deter would-be border-crossers. ICE said the number of people apprehended away from the border jumped 25 percent this fiscal year, an increase of 37 percent after Trump’s inauguration compared to the same period the year before.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced Dec. 3 the Trump administration was withdrawing from the Global Compact on Migration, arguing it would “undermine the sovereign right of the United States to enforce our immigration laws and secure our borders.”

In September, Trump rescinded Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals order, which gave de facto amnesty to some 800,000 people who came to the country as children with their illegal-alien parents. Trump has delayed implementing his order for six months to give Congress time to come up with a legislative solution.

The Department of Homeland Security in August ended the Central American Minors Parole Program that had allowed certain minors from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to enter the U.S.

In the first 100 days of the Trump administration, arrests and deportations of criminal aliens such as MS-13 members were up 38 percent compared with the last year of the Obama administration.

The DOJ also resumed the criminal prosecution of first-time illegal border crossers after it had been stopped by the Obama administration.

States’ rights

President Trump signed two executive orders Dec. 4 that gave back about 2 million acres of land to the state of Utah by modifying executive orders by President Obama.
Arguing the Antiquities Act “requires that any reservation of land as part of a monument be confined to the smallest area compatible with the proper care and management of the objects of historic or scientific interest to be protected,” Trump reduced the federal government’s control of the Bear’s Ear National Monument to just 201,876 acres, pointing out that the important objects of scientific or historic interest described described in Obama’s proclamation are protected under existing laws and agency management designations.

He also reduced the Grand Staircase National Monument in Utah from nearly 1.9 million acres to about 1 million.

Foreign affairs

President Trump announced Oct. 13 he would not certify the Iran nuclear deal and vowed that the U.S. would pull out unless changes are made. He also unveiled a new strategy, the culmination of nine months of deliberation with Congress and allies, on how to best protect American security from the rogue mullah-led regime. The plan included denying the regime funding and any paths to a nuclear weapon and ballistic missiles. The Department of the Treasury sanctioned more than 25 entities and individuals involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program.

The U.S. also sanctioned 16 entities and individuals that have supported Iran’s military and Revolutionary Guard Corps in the development of drones, fast attack boats and other military equipment.

The Trump administration now is investigating allegations the Obama administration – to protect its Iran deal – thwarted a probe of a Hezbollah drug ring and tipped off the commander of the Quds Force, a designated terrorist organization, that the Israelis were plotting to assassinate him.

In his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Trump explicitly denounced socialism and communism, pointing to Venezuela as an example of what happens when socialism is successfully implemented.

While the previous three U.S. presidents promised during their election campaigns to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, President Trump on Dec. 6 became the first to follow through. In his official order, Trump also ordered the U.S. Embassy to be moved to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. The move was celebrated by Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had been treated by Obama as an adversary.

The U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, announced days after the U.N. General Assembly condemned the U.S. for recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital that Washington negotiated a $285 million cut in the global body’s “bloated” budget for next year.

The Trump administration announced Dec. 29 that the United States will deny Pakistan military aid amounting to $255 million because Washington expects the Islamic nation “to take decisive action against terrorists and militants on its soil.”

Regulatory reform

President Trump announced Dec. 14 his administration has far exceeded its promise to eliminate regulations at a 2:1 ratio and impose no lifetime net regulatory costs. In total, agencies issued 67 deregulatory actions while imposing only three new regulatory actions, a ratio of 22:1. Federal agencies also achieved $8.1 billion in lifetime net regulatory cost savings, the equivalent of $570 million per year.

From the beginning of his term, Trump set up task forces in every agency to remove “job killing regulations” and increase “economic opportunity.”

By comparison, during President Obama’s years in office, more than 22,700 regulations were imposed on Americans at a cost to American consumers, businesses and workers of more than $120 billion each year. Trump’s order reducing regulation and controlling regulatory costs was the first time in U.S. history that the executive branch has established a regulatory budget.

Environmental Protection Agency reform

More than 700 people have left the Environmental Protection Agency since Trump took office, nearly a quarter of the way toward its goal of shrinking the agency to Reagan-administration levels.

EPA Director Scott Pruitt placed 66 new experts on three different EPA scientific committees who espouse more conservative views than their predecessors. To prevent conflicts of interest, Pruitt signed a directive Oct. 31 banning scientists who receive EPA grants from serving on the agency’s independent advisory boards.

Pruitt announced Oct. 9 a new set of rules that will override the Clean Power Plan, the centerpiece of Obama’s drive to curb global “climate change.” The agency is moving to undo, delay or block more than 30 environmental rules, the largest regulatory rollback in the agency’s 47-year history.

In July, President Trump kept his campaign promise to coal miners and rolled back the previous administration’s “Stream Protection Rule,” which targeted the industry with estimated costs of at least $81 million a year.

Trump approved the Dakota Access Pipeline project and the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada, which are expected to create more than 42,000 jobs and $2 billion in earnings. The Dakota Access Pipeline, which is transporting 500,000 barrels of oil a day, has reinvigorated the North Dakota economy. In June, Trump approved production of the New Burgos Pipeline to Mexico.

Trump issued an executive order in June to begin the process of rescinding the 2015 Waters of the United States rule, which has been used to expand federal control over private land. Under the Obama administration, the broadly crafted rule was applied to “navigable waters” such as man-made ditches and water that accumulated after heavy rain.

After decades of trying, a portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve was opened to oil drilling through the tax-reform bill.

Climate change

Trump, in June, pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord, which, according to a study by NERA Consulting, could have cost the United States economy nearly $3 trillion along with a loss of sovereignty. According to the same study, by 2040, 6.5 million industrial sector jobs could have been lost, including 3.1 million manufacturing sector jobs.

Barack ObamaOn Dec. 18, Trump removed climate change from the global threats listed in his National Security Strategy, reversing an Obama administration decision. Obama, in the most recent strategy document, declared climate change an “urgent and growing threat to our national security.”

In September, Trump shut down a climate-change advisory panel under the direction of NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that critics have contended was formed largely to promote President Obama’s climate policies, arguing it lacked representation from “those who think the empirical evidence points to human actions contributing little to global warming and that attempting to reduce it would slow the conquest of poverty around the world.” The EPA also has decided not to renew the appointments of dozens of scientists on various scientific advisory panels.

Economy

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell praised President Trump Dec. 20 for his leadership in the passage of the biggest tax overhaul in 30 years, with some $3.2 trillion in tax cuts along with significant simplification of the tax code. Not a single Democrat voted for the measure and party leaders dismissed it as a sop to the rich. But dozens of companies already have responded to a cut in the corporate rate from 35 percent to 21 percent by boosting employee wages and providing extra bonuses.

wall-street-flag-stocks-600The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported nearly 1.3 million new jobs were created during Trump’s first 200 days. Meanwhile, Obama, in his first six months, saw the loss of more than 4.1 million jobs in his first 200 days.

This week, the Labor Department announced U.S. filings for unemployment benefits plummeted to the lowest level in almost 45 years, suggesting the unemployment rate of 4.1 percent, already the lowest since 2000, could be poised to decline further, according to analysts.

Obama proposed legislation to force multinationals to pay taxes on profits they hold offshore. But with passage of the tax-reform bill, Apple has decided it will repatriate overseas cash holdings and pour $350 billion into the U.S. economy over the next five years. Trump tweeted in response that his policies allowed the tech giant “to bring massive amounts of money back to the United States,” which is a “huge win for American workers and the USA!”

Global jihad

ISISThree years ago, ISIS had made substantial progress achieving its stated goal of a caliphate, boasting tens of thousands of fighters and territorial control over an area roughly the size of South Korea. But now, under Trump’s leadership of the U.S. Armed Forces, ISIS has collapsed in its Syria stronghold and in Iraq. As Northeastern Professor Max Abrahms and CATO Institute Director John Glaser noted in a Los Angeles Times op-ed, a former foreign fighter recently admitted, “It’s over: there is no more Daesh left,” using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.

In July, the Trump administration ended a CIA program to arm “moderate” Syrian rebels after previous efforts of its kind were shown to have aided Islamic jihadists, including the terrorists who carried out the disastrous Benghazi attack in which four Americans, including the ambassador, were killed.

African Americans

The unemployment rate for black Americans dropped to an all-time low in December, to 6.8 percent. The previous monthly low was 7.4 percent in 2000. The government has been tracking unemployment by race since 1972.

Military

The Trump administration reversed Obama’s order to allow transgendered individuals to serve in the military. The order is being challenged in court.

Religious liberty

The Department of Agriculture issued a guidance Nov. 6 that ensures Christians who opposed same-sex marriage would not be discriminated against for their beliefs.

Government reform

Melania Trump, while embracing a more active and public schedule as first lady, is running one of the leanest East Wing operations in recent history, according to a Fox News analysis of White House personnel reports that found she has significantly reduced the number of aides on the first lady’s office payroll in comparison to her predecessor, Michelle Obama. During President Obama’s first year in office, 16 people were listed working for Michelle Obama, earning a combined $1.24 million a year. This year, just four people were listed working for Melania Trump as of June, with salaries totaling $486,700

Space exploration

President Trump revived America’s leadership in space exploration, reconstituting the National Space Council for the first time in 25 years to assist him in developing and implementing long-range strategic goals.

In contrast to Obama’s priorities, the space program will refocus on human exploration and discovery. Under Obama, NASA’s administrator at the time, Charles Bolden, said in a 2010 interview with al-Jazeera that Obama had given him three charges, with perhaps the foremost being helping the Muslim world “feel good” about itself.

The administration also will renew America’s commitment to creating the space technology needed to protect national security. And Pence pointed out the intelligence community reports that Russia and China are pursuing a full range of anti-satellite technology designed to threaten U.S. military effectiveness.

Courts

Keeping a major campaign promise, President Trump nominated to the highest court a strict constructionist and originalist in the mold of Antonin Scalia, Neil Gorsuch, who was confirmed by the Senate and sworn in as an associate justice in April. In his first term, in June, Gorsuch voted in every case with the justice generally regarded as the most conservative, Clarence Thomas.

The conservative Committee for Justice said in a report that Gorsuch’s early performance says a lot about both what he will be like as a Supreme Court justice “and what the president can be counted on to do as more high court vacancies occur. Conservatives hoping for a solid conservative majority on the court in the near future had good reason to cheer.”

Trump also is filling up lower courts with lifetime appointees. In the estimation of Democratic official Ron Klain, a “massive transformation is underway in how our fundamental rights are defined by the federal judiciary.” Klain, lamenting Trump’s moves, said the president “is proving wildly successful in one respect: naming youthful conservative nominees to the federal bench in record-setting numbers.” On Sept. 28, Trump announced an eighth wave of judicial candidates, with nine more names.

Abortion

In January, Trump signed an order reinstating the Mexico City Policy, which defunded the International Planned Parenthood Federation and other organizations that promote foreign abortions. In May, the administration broadened the scope of the Mexico City Policy to restrict funding to any international health organization that performs or gives information about abortions, expanding the amount of money affected from $600,000 to nearly $9 billion.

The Office of Management and Budget on Oct. 2 issued a Statement of Administration Policy (SAP) to strongly support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36), which would generally make it unlawful for any person to perform, or attempt to perform, an abortion of an unborn child after 20 weeks post-fertilization.

The president issued a statement Oct. 1 renewing the nation’s “strong commitment to promoting the health, well-being, and inherent dignity of all children and adults with Down syndrome.” The president observed “there remain too many people – both in the United States and throughout the world – that still see Down syndrome as an excuse to ignore or discard human life.” He said Americans and their government “must always be vigilant in defending and promoting the unique and special gifts of all citizens in need” and “should not tolerate any discrimination against them, as all people have inherent dignity.”

The Department of Health and Human Services has published a draft of a new strategic plan that states in its introduction that life begins at conception. The personhood of the unborn child is central to the abortion debate — as even the justice who wrote the landmark Roe v. Wade opinion has acknowledged — because, if established in law, it would nullify a “right” to abortion. The largely overlooked HHS strategic plan for 2018-22 states the agency “accomplishes its mission through programs and initiatives that cover a wide spectrum of activities, serving and protecting Americans at every stage of life, beginning at conception.”

In what was regarded as the first major national pro-life bill in more than a decade, Trump signed in April a Congressional Review bill into law annulling a recent Obama administration regulation that would have prohibited states from discriminating in awarding Title X family planning funds based on whether a local clinic also performs abortions.

The Trump administration in April cut off U.S. funding of the United Nations Population Fund, which has links to inhumane abortion programs such as China’s one-child policy (which became a two-child policy in 2015). More than $32 million was instead shifted to the U.S. Agency for International Development.

In April, Trump appointed pro-life advocate Dr. Charmaine Yoest, the former president of Americans United for Life, as assistant secretary of public affairs for the Department of Health and Human Services, replacing a strong Planned Parenthood supporter. Later, two pro-life advocates who had worked for the Family Research Council were appointed to key positions. And Valerie Huber, an abstinence education advocate, was appointed in June as chief of staff to the assistant secretary for health at the HHS.

Welfare reform

In August, the Department of Health and Human Services rescinded an Obama-era directive that had allowed states to request a waiver to ignore work requirements for the poor in order to receive welfare.

Also in August, more than 1.1 million fewer Americans were on food stamps under President Trump, compared to the Obama administration.

Second Amendment

The Justice Department terminated Operation Choke Point, an Obama program encouraging banks not to do business with “high risk” businesses, which was used to target gun dealers.

President Trump signed a bill into law in February repealing an Obama-era Social Security Administration rule adding mental disability determinations to the background check registry. The Obama regulation potentially allowed the denial of Second Amendment rights to many competent, mentally healthy citizens.

Law enforcement

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the DOJ cracked down on illegal leaks of classified information from within the government, pursuing three times more investigations in the first six months of the Trump administration than had been open at the end of the Obama administration. The administration created a counter-intelligence unit within the FBI for the investigations.

In April, Sessions, in an effort to give back local control to police departments, ordered the Department of Justice to review Obama’s agreements with local police departments.

Trump’s education secretary, Betsy DeVos, in June appointed Adam Kissel, a noted critic of the Obama administration’s implementation of Title IX – the much-abused 1972 federal law that bars discrimination in education “on the basis of sex” – and a strong supporter of free speech, as deputy assistant secretary for higher education programs. The staff of the Title IX enforcement office was reduced in the 2018 budget.

In April, Trump signed an executive order requiring Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to review department regulations with the intent of returning power to the states and local governments.

School bathrooms

Trump, in February, reversed Obama’s executive order requiring public schools to allow students to use bathrooms and locker rooms according to their preferred “gender identity.”

Hillary Clinton diehards still are plotting a possible path to the Oval Office, a full year after President Trump was inaugurated and 15 months after she went down in flames in the 2016 presidential election. And that was her second failed bid for the presidency.

Cortney O’Brien, at Townhall, noted Newsweek “doesn’t seem to be letting go of the possibility that Hillary Clinton can still be president.”

“Relying on a theory first floated in October by Lawrence Lessig, the Roy L. Furman professor of law and leadership at Harvard Law School, the editors strike a painfully hopeful tone that the investigation into Russian collusion will bring President Trump down once and for all.”

O’Brien pointed out there has been “no evidence to prove Trump colluded with Russia to win the election, as even top Democrats have admitted.”

Still, there are those on the left who cannot give up their fantasy.

Lessig explained that for Clinton to reach the Oval Office, several things would need to happen.

Both President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence would have to be found guilty of “treason” and removed from office.

And House Speaker Paul Ryan, then next in line for the presidency, would have to take office.

Ryan, then, would have to pick Hillary Clinton as his vice president.

And then he would have to resign and turn over the Oval Office to Hillary Clinton.

The Washington Times reported Lessig “originally hypothesized” the scheme a few months ago.

“If the president and vice president are impeached for colluding with the Russians to win the White House, the professor said Mrs. Clinton is the rightful heir to the throne,” the Times reported.

Lessig wrote then, at Medium: “If Ryan became president because the Trump/Pence campaign committed treason, who should he nominate as his vice president. The answer seems unavoidable: He should nominate the person defeated by the treason of his own party, and then step aside, and let her become the president.”

Lessig told Newsweek on Wednesday. “This is one way that it could happen. But that’s very different from saying I think it will happen, or should happen, or the evidence is there for it to happen.”

But it could.

At Medium, Lessig penned his fantasy.

“There’s a bunch of chatter about imminent action by the special prosecutor. Some of that chatter suggests evidence of a real tie with Russia during the election. By ‘real tie’ I mean more than that the Russians tried to help. A ‘real tie’ would be real evidence of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. I don’t know if I believe it. I certainly haven’t seen clear evidence of it. And I don’t think it’s appropriate to speculate about whether there is clear evidence of it or not. But I get tons of emails from people asking, ‘what if there was a conspiracy?’ It’s a fair question. We ought to have a clear answer,” he said.

Because of the attention he’s received, he’s added some comments.

“My aim in writing this was to map out what should happen and what was not possible, given the Constitution that we have,” he added. “When I published the piece, I really meant it to be a simple link that I could provide to people when they wrote with this question.”

He continued, “I … [make] it clear that I’m not asserting that there is any clear evidence of such a conspiracy, and indeed, that I don’t believe that there is a conspiracy. And more importantly, whether you believe there is or not, as I said upfront, I don’t believe it is appropriate to speculate about whether there is or isn’t. Let [special counsel Robert] Mueller do his job and we’ll see where we are when he’s finished. My point was if he reaches this particular conclusion, then the following should follow.”

Even after an Obama-appointed White House doctor said President Trump is in “excellent” health, mainstream media reporters – who routinely ignored and downplayed former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s physical collapse, uncontrollable coughing fits and self-reported memory failure – have declared open season on the president’s health, claiming the physician must be lying about it.
The White House press corps lobbed more than a dozen questions at Navy Rear Adm. Dr. Ronny Jackson on Tuesday, many suggesting President Trump is mentally ill or exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Jackson insisted Trump is in great health and received a perfect score, 30 out of 30, on a cognitive exam the president personally requested.

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., exploded with anger over President Trump’s alleged “sh–hole” comments this week, telling a congressional hearing Tuesday he had “tears of rage” when he heard about the purported incident.

Booker said he was “seething with anger” after he heard reports that the president asked senators why the U.S. keeps bringing in migrants from “sh–hole” countries like Haiti, El Salvador and African nations. Democrats have claimed the alleged comment is proof that the president is “racist.”

President Trump has denied using the term, though he did admit he used “tough language” in the meeting.

“I hurt,” Booker cried during a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday. “When Dick Durbin called me, I had tears of rage when I heard about this experience in this meeting.”

Booker launched into a tirade, telling Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen: “For you not to feel that hurt and that pain and to dismiss the questions of my colleagues … with tens of millions Americans hurting right now because they’re worried about what happened in the White House, that’s unacceptable to me.

“There are threats in this country, people applauding. I receive enough death threats to know the reality. … And I’ve got a president of the United States, whose office I respect, who talks about the country’s origins of my fellow citizens in the most despicable manner. You don’t remember, you can’t remember the words of your commander in chief? I find that unacceptable.”

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told Democratic congressmen Wednesday there will be no wall stretching the complete length of the 2,100-mile U.S.-Mexico border and that some of President Trump’s campaign promises on immigration were “uninformed,” according to a Washington Post report Wednesday.

Kelly also reportedly indicated that the Mexican government will not fund the planned 700 miles of wall, which is expected to cost $20 billion.

The chief of staff is said to have made the comments in a meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, House Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., and Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif.

The Post said its report is based on notes from two congressmen who were in the room during the meeting and confirmed by two other lawmakers and a senior aide who were also present.
Kelly requested the meeting after being asked to do so by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., according to the paper, which noted that Pelosi “has been in frequent contact with Kelly over the last several months and told him that the group is critical to reaching a deal” on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, D-Calif., asked Kelly to explain some of Trump’s campaign promises to construct a border wall.

A probe by the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations found that the Obama State Department gave $349,276 in U.S. taxpayer-funded grants to a political group in Israel called OneVoice to build a campaign operation that, subsequently, was used to try to persuade Israelis to vote against Netanyahu.

Now there’s new information, according to the American Center for Law and Justice, that the Obama administration’s intervention was even worse.

ACLJ said that in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, it “uncovered a startling revelation.”

“Yasser Mahmoud Abbas, son of Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of the terrorist-allied Palestinian Authority, was also a senior leader and advisor to OneVoice – and, as demonstrated by the contents of the documents themselves, the Obama administration knew this,” ACLJ said in a report Wednesday.

“In short, the Obama State Department gave U.S. taxpayer dollars to a terrorist-affiliated organization (the PA recently united with the terrorist group Hamas) to unseat the democratically elected leader of the only free democracy in the Middle East and a vital U.S. ally.”
ACLJ said such “misguided efforts … embolden and enrich enemies of the United States and further destabilize the region.”
“In fact, just this week Palestinian leaders announced their intention to suspend recognition of the existence of the state of Israel and PA President Abbas, in expletive-laden language, told the U.S. to keep its money, which totals as much as $1 billion. Defiantly addressing his comments directly to the U.S. government, Abbas went on to exclaim, ‘May your house be destroyed,’ a familiar curse well-known to the other Arab leaders around the table at the time,” ACLJ said.
ACLJ said the U.S. State Department started giving money to One Voice Israel and One Voice Palestine, affiliated groups, in 2013. The grants continued through 2014 and totaled about $350,000.
“OneVoice told the Obama State Department that it planned to engage in electioneering, yet the Obama administration gave the organization the money anyway. Worse yet, the administration, even fully aware of OneVoice’s intentions, imposed no restrictions on the grant.”
That freedom allowed OneVoice to spend the money on social media and voter database work, and even hire a company to train activists.

The CEO of a software-development firm issued $1,000 bonuses to his employees with a notation in the memo on each check “Trump Tax Cut and Jobs Act.”

Sheldon Wolf of Tampa-based Spellex told “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning he was inspired by news that companies such as AT&T and Bank of America were giving $1,000 bonuses to their employees.

“I wanted to do it because I’m excited about the new tax plan from Trump and the GOP, and I wanted to ‘share the wealth,’ as they say,” Wolf explained.

More than 50 companies have announced employee bonuses and/or wage increases in response to the bill’s tax cuts. Last Thursday, the nation’s largest private employer, Walmart, announced it was raising its minimum hourly wage and handing out bonuses of up to $1,000.

Wolf noted his employees are mostly “Generation Xers and Milennials” who are “not particularly into politics.”

“But it really impacted them, when they got in their hand a check for $1,000 that plainly said this is why you’re getting this check, because of the change in the new tax plans,” Wolf said.

Fox News host Steve Doocy commented that many of Wolf’s employees may not be “fans” of President Trump, but “they’ve gotta feel like this is great.”

“They were all very happy about it,” Wolf replied. “And, yes, I don’t think they’re particularly fans of President Trump, but nobody was complaining. They were all happy.”

Doocy asked Wolf what he thought of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s recent comment that the bonuses and wage hikes announced by businesses in response to the Republican tax-reform bill were mere “crumbs.”

“It really amazed me that somebody can find something wrong with the fact that millions of employees — probably 80 to 90 percent of the workforce — are going to be able to keep additional funds that they were giving to the government,” said Wolf.

Walmart, which has more than 1 million U.S. hourly employees, said the bill, which cut the U.S. corporate tax rate cut from 35 percent to 21 percent, will directly benefit its workers.

“Today, we are building on investments we’ve been making in associates, in their wages and skills development,” said Walmart CEO Doug McMillon in a statement.

“It’s our people who make the difference and we appreciate how they work hard to make every day easier for busy families.”

Immediate impact

Immediately after the bill passed Dec. 20, AT&T and Comcast announced bonuses of $1,000 to non-management workers, and Wells Fargo and Fifth Third Bancorp increased base hourly pay to $15. Boeing announced a gift of $300 million in investment in its employee-related charitable program “to support our heroes, our homes and our future.”

Comcast NBC Universal gave $1,000 bonuses to more than 100,000 non-executive employees, announcing the move was not only tied, like all the others, to the tax cut but to the Federal Communications Commission’s elimination of government regulation of the Internet. The company said it plans to spend more than $50 billion in the next five years on infrastructure investments that he expects will create “thousands of new direct and indirect jobs.”

Before the bill passed, Kroger Chief Executive Officer W. Rodney McMullen offered that the legislation would influence his company “to continue to invest in our business, which will grow jobs.”

Walmart said its wage increase will take effect in February. The company also plans to boost its paid maternity leave policy for full-time hourly workers to 10 weeks at full pay. The current policy is six to eight weeks at half pay. Walmart also announced it will offer financial help to full-time hourly and salaried employees seeking to adopt children.

Passed in both chambers with no Democrat votes, the bill cuts the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. It also doubles the standard deduction to $24,000 for married couples and doubles the child-tax credit to $2,000, with up to $1,400 available in refunds for families who owe little or no taxes. The bill maintains seven personal income tax brackets and lowers the tax rates for most brackets, reducing the top rate to 37 percent from 39.6 percent.

The Republican leadership promised the impact of the tax bill will begin to show up in paychecks in February as the amount withheld for federal taxes is reduced.

Some Republican members of Congress in the high-tax states of California, New Jersey and New York opposed the bill because it puts a $10,000 cap on the deduction of state, local and property taxes.

The left-leaning Tax Policy Center concluded 80 percent of taxpayers will get a significant tax cut while less than 5 percent will see a tax increase of more than $10.

The Congressional Budget Office’s “static” score of the bill, which doesn’t include projected economic growth, concludes the deficit would grow by about $1.5 trillion in the next decade. However, Republicans, pointing to the tax cuts of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, argue the bill will result in economic growth that will produce more revenue and, therefore, more taxes collected.

NASA is closely monitoring the arrival of a previously unseen asteroid that is set to brush past Earth next week at 12,300 miles per hour. The space rock had been invisible to astronomers until January 5, but scientists quickly calculated the asteroid, named 2018 AJ, will fly past Earth Tuesday, January 23. But NASA admits it is not yet certain of its orbital path. New asteroids are given a condition code of between 0 to 9 based on how certain astronomers are about its course. Zero means they are fairly certain, but 9 is classed as “highly uncertain”.
It is currently believed it will pass at a comfortable 4.6 times the distance from Earth to the Moon. The Moon is 238,000 miles from Earth and this pass, currently estimated at around 1.1 million miles, is considered a cat’s whisker in astronomical terms. NASA considers and monitors anything which comes within six million miles of our planet as a near-earth asteroid. The asteroid is estimated to be between 22 and 68 meters in diameter, meaning it is bigger than a three-story house.

Amazon wants to put a camera and microphone in your bedroom with the UK launch of its latest Echo home device. The camera on the £119.99 ($129) Echo Spot, which doubles up as a ‘smart alarm’, will probably be facing directly at the user’s bed. The device, which is already available in the US has such sophisticated microphones it can hear people talking from across the room – even if music is playing. However, there remain privacy concerns over using such a device in the home. Amazon devices have previously activated when they’re not wanted meaning this small device could turn into a potential spy.
It is the latest edition to the tech giant’s family of devices and is as usual powered by virtual assistant Alexa. Although the camera on the Echo Spot is primarily used to facilitate video calling, it could be hacked and used for malicious purposes, writes The Verge. Last month a hack by British security researcher Mark Barnes saw 2015 and 2016 versions of the Echo turned into a live microphone.

Health officials have confirmed they are facing an outbreak of the “eye-bleeding fever” after four people died of the suspected disease in weeks. Uganda’s health ministry has today finally admitted it is facing the risk of a large-scale explosion of the viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF). VHF causes victims to suffer a burning fever before beginning to bleed from orifices including their eyes, anuses and mouths.
It comes after a girl, nine, was reportedly killed by the infection Uganda, and three people died in neighboring South Sudan of similar symptoms. Popular Charismatic Website Promotes Heresy—Mixes Hinduism, New Age and Christianity
(By Mike Shreve) For several years, I have received emails from a prophetic resource website that is very popular with charismatics. Usually, two articles a day from that website drop in my inbox. A few days ago (around the beginning of January), one particular article shocked me. The title of the article is “Christ Is All Things.” Though the author does not use far eastern or New Age terminology, he promotes the doctrine of either pantheism (the material universe is an emanation of God / God is all and all is God) or its subtler modification, pantheism (everything contains a spark of divinity / God is in all and all is in God). He claims that this is something Paul upholds in his writings, basing his idea on the CEB (Common English Bible) version of Colossians 3:11, “Christ is all things and in all people.”

The author proposes that the traditional evangelical view of the “born again” experience is wrong (the idea that Jesus comes to live within a person’s heart when He is invited to be Lord and Savior). Instead, he falsely asserts, “Everyone has Christ in them. This would include Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus atheists, and everyone else. No one is separated from Christ at birth. At birth, everyone is born with Christ within them.” He also maintains, “Because creation has been made through Christ, Christ is in all creation, and the whole creation emanates with and reflects Christ. NASA considers and monitors anything which comes within six million miles of our planet as a near-earth asteroid. The asteroid is estimated to be between 22 and 68 meters in diameter, meaning it is bigger than a three-story house.

And Graham attempted to do just that in a thought-provoking Facebook post on Jan. 14.

“A friend of mine in Hawaii said he ran to the window to see everyone running off the golf course, and then he sat in front of the television,” said Graham, who is CEO of both the Samaritan’s Purse worldwide ministry and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. “I read about another man who got in the bathtub with his family and prayed.”

But after several minutes, the people in Hawaii learned it was a false alarm.

WASHINGTON – It was an unlikely road Walter Cronkite traversed on his way to becoming “the most trusted man in America,” positioning him to be the first TV anchor in America to declare a U.S. war over.

The story was told publicly in the July 10, 2000, edition of the Nation, a Marxist-oriented journal, in a report on the death of Blair Clark, who served as editor of the Nation from 1976 through 1978: “Whether it was calling on Philip Roth to recommend a Nation literary editor or persuading CBS News president Richard Salant to make Walter Cronkite anchor of CBS Evening News, Blair had a gift for the recognition and recruitment of excellence.”

Clark was not only the editor of the Nation, he was also heir to the Clark thread fortune, a Harvard classmate and friend of John F. Kennedy, a buddy of Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee and the manager of Eugene McCarthy’s 1968 campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

Two homosexuals are suing Vistaprint after they ordered wedding programs for their recent ceremony – and instead opened the package on the eve of the event to discover pamphlets that warned “Satan entices your flesh with evil desires.”

Divine message or shipping flub?

The New York Post described how the two were horrified.
“Rather than send plaintiffs the custom wedding programs they had purchased, Vistaprint instead sent plaintiffs literature with hateful, discriminatory and anti-gay messages equating their relationship to Satan’s temptation,” the Post quoted from the lawsuit.
The men, Stephen Heasley and Andrew Borg, said they are suing to “hold Vistaprint accountable for the harm they have caused … and to send the message that there will be consequences for acts of hate perpetrated against others.”
They reportedly got married in Pennsylvania a few months ago.
The report said the two ordered blue and gold programs, a quantity of 100 for $79.49. They had chosen to have printed the lyrics to “Treasure” by Above and Beyond.
They opened the package, however, to find “approximately 80 copies of a discriminatory pamphlet entitled: ‘Understanding Temptation: Fight the good fight of the faith.'”
“They were horrified,” the report stated.
The documents were “plainly sent to threaten and attack Mr. Heasely and Mr. Borg because they are gay” and warned “Satan entices your flesh with evil desires,” the complaint states.
The duo claim they were “emotionally devastated by Vistaprint’s intimidating and discriminatory conduct.”
Lawyer Michael J. Willemin told the Post, “This case presents a particularly egregious example of a company refusing to provide equal services to members of the LBGTQ community.”

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake – who has compared President Trump to a communist dictator who starved, imprisoned and murdered as many as 20 million people – says he fully expects Trump to face a Republican challenger in 2020, and his statements are causing some to suspect the challenger could be Flake himself.
MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt asked Flake during a Sunday broadcast if he believes Republicans have a “moral obligation or duty” to challenge Trump for the party’s nomination in 2020.
“I don’t want to put it that way, but I think he will have a challenge,” responded the Arizona senator, who announced earlier that he will not seek re-election to the Senate. “He’ll certainly have a challenge from somebody as an independent. But I think he’ll likely have a challenge in the Republican Party as well.
“I am not the only one — the only Republican who is saying, ‘You know, I’m not sure this is my party. We used to stand for limited government and free trade, free enterprise and not this kind of nationalist, protectionist kind of party.”
Asked if he’d consider throwing his own hat into the ring in 2020, Flake said: “I won’t rule it out. It’s not in my plans. But I’m not ruling it out. I don’t think anybody should.”

Flake is scheduled to give a speech Wednesday on the Senate floor in which he is expected to compare President Trump to communist dictator Josef Stalin. Wednesday is the same day Trump plans to celebrate the “most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media” by giving out “Fake News Awards.”

WASHINGTON – Decades after Walter Cronkite delivered his famous editorial in 1968 after the Tet Offensive, he admitted that he got the story wrong.
WND has obtained a copy of a letter written by Cronkite to an irate veteran who took issue with his claim that the U.S. and South Vietnamese forces did not rout the Communist enemy.
In the fall of 2000, 32 years after Tet, Cronkite was still writing letters to veterans outraged at how his Feb. 27, 1968, personal editorial comments about the war actually became a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy of how the conflict would end – in stalemate.
One of those letters, dated Sept. 6, was directed to veteran activist Ed Moffitt, then of New York, who had taken Cronkite to task for admitting in his book, “A Reporter’s Life,” that CBS “tried to keep our reports impartial but personally I tilted largely toward the dissidents.”
The last two paragraphs of the personalized letter from Cronkite specifically reference his famous Tet broadcast and reveal that Cronkite had, once again, changed his mind about the military outcome of that offensive.
“Regarding the Tet broadcast,” Cronkite wrote, “I made clear that my closing comments were a personal opinion and that the previous hour-long broadcast was as unbiased as we could make it.”
He continued: “I recognized sometime after the fact that the North Vietnamese had suffered a military defeat, but this did not dictate an apology on my part for following the precepts of responsible journalism in reporting the situation as I saw it at the time.”

A veteran Washington courtroom fighter, Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch, confirmed Monday he has filed a lawsuit that puts special counsel Robert Mueller’s communications with the media in a bull’s-eye.

“Robert Mueller and his staff, who are alleged to have illegally leaked grand jury information to damage the president, his family and associates, have thus far been untouched by the inept and inert Justice Department, run by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who appears afraid that he himself may be indicted by Mueller for alleged Russian collusion and obstruction of justice,” Klayman said.
“Freedom Watch is not afraid and is doing the job of my former alma mater, which has regrettably become the ‘Department of Prosecutorial Misconduct and Injustice.’ I will not rest until Robert Mueller and his partisan leftist prosecutors are removed and replaced with an honest and ethical special counsel and staff, who will not abuse their authority for political purposes, but instead expeditiously conduct and conclude this Russian collusion investigation on the merits before more harm is done to the nation.”
His lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, is against Mueller, the DOJ and the FBI.
The action seeks a court order stating the defendants “have failed to make bona fide, good faith determinations about whether they will comply with Freedom Watch’s request” for information.

'Maybe defacing city property isn't the most productive way'

Even statues of children are no longer safe from anti-American vandals.
A bronze statue depicting two children honoring the national anthem in Patterson Park in Baltimore was defaced Monday with red paint. The words “Racist Anthem” were painted in front of it.
The plaque on the statue read: “To commemorate the centennial of the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner, the pupils of the public schools of Baltimore have erected this memorial upon Hampstead Hill where in September, 1814, the citizen soldiers of Maryland stood ready to sacrifice their lives in defense of their homes and their country.”
It was paid for by pennies from public school students more than a century ago. A nearby cannon was also defaced.
Baltimore and its public schools has changed a great deal in the century since.
Despite massive funding, the city’s public schools are turning out students that do not even qualify as literate. A recent investigation of six Baltimore schools found not a single student passed the state’s proficiency test in the subjects of math and English.
The changing face of Baltimore is also reflected in its recent campaign to tear down statues that the city government believes reflects “racism” or “white supremacy.”

Where do Christians get that idea from? Well the answer is a misquote from Matthew 5:18 “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. This is quite interesting considering the Greek word used for law is “nomos”. What law is Matthew discussing? The Mosaic Law.

If you ask a Christian why do we live in such a fallen state? They will tell you because Adam and Eve sinned. When asked what the sin was these people will claim that they disobeyed YHWH. Is that really all that happened? If you asked a Jew they will tell you what happened in the Garden, what happened in Genesis 6 and what really occurred at the Tower of Babel.

Genesis 3:1 starts off telling us that “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. א וְהַנָּחָשׁ, הָיָה עָרוּם, מִכֹּל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה, אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים; וַיֹּאמֶר, אֶל-הָאִשָּׁה, אַף כִּי-אָמַר אֱלֹהִים, לֹא תֹאכְלוּ מִכֹּל עֵץ הַגָּן. The serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field. Let’s look at the word for subtle. It’s H6175 which can mean subtle or shrew but the root of the word is arom which means very cunning or crafty. The term beast is not referring to wildlife or animals. It’s referring to anything living as its root word means life. Here is the most important part. What was Eve deceived by? A serpent? Serpents do not talk. That being said every Hebrew verse has four meanings.

When someone tricks us or deceives us what do we call them? A Snake. This term was never meant to be taken literally. The word for serpent is H5175 “Nachash” but has other meanings as well. Genesis 3, Isaiah 14, and Ezekiel 28 seemingly involve Satan, a Nachash, or some type of angelic or spiritual entity. The Hebrew root is the basis for noun, verb and adjective. The verb form means to practice divination, deceive or sorcery. The noun form means the diviner, deceiver or sorcerer. The adjective means bronze or brazen or bright shine. In the noun for it would mean the shining one or illuminated one. This is normal in Hebrew to address divine being in scripture.

So when the “Serpent” speaks to Eve he is obviously in close proximity and also apart of YHWH’s Divine Counsel and living with YHWH in Eden. It is a divine being associated with the Divine Council who freely chose to oppose God’s plan for humanity by prompting the humans to disobey God so they would either be killed or removed from God’s council and family. Genesis 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent: ‘because thou hast done this, cursed art thou from among all cattle, and from among all beasts of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life. Now YHWH could be referring to Sheol but Satan is not in Sheol as he is the Prince of the Power of the Air. Nor does the serpent need to eat dust to sustain life. YHWH is simply saying that he is the lowest of the low and eventually spend eternity in the bottomless pit.

So what really happened? Eve was commanded by God to not to eat or touch the fruit that was in the midst of the garden. The Serpent’s response is paramount to understanding the story. He said that you will not surely die BUT that God knows that if you eat of the tree then your eyes will be open and you will know all good and evil and be as gods. The Hebrew word eyes is “Ayin”. This is referring to spiritual sight. The same symbol of the all-seeing-eye is about obtaining spiritual knowledge. The Hebrew word for know is “Yada”. It might be worth noting that word means to know someone intimately as well. So not only did Adam and Eve disobey Gods commandments they wanted to be just like God or be equal to him. When the Messiah died on the cross he said “it is finished”. What was he referring to? The name for Jesus in Hebrew also means “The Hand That Destroys The Establishment of The Eye.

Christalignment is run by Ken and Jen Hodge, who are the parents of Ben Fitzgerald, a listed missionary with Bethel Church of Redding, California. According to the Christalignment website, Jen Hodge is characterized as a “seer [who] specializes in healing from negative energies/cleansing.”
“The Christalignment team, based in Melbourne, Australia, are trained spiritual consultants, gifted in various modalities. We practice a form of supernatural healing that flows from the universal presence of the Christ,” the site reads. “We draw from the same divine energy of the Christ spirit, as ancient followers did and operate only out of the third heaven realm to gain insight and revelation.” It outlines that its team members are trained in “destiny reading, Presence therapy, trauma recovery, entity cleansing, relationship alignment and physical healing using divine energy,” and also offer dream interpretations and “encounters coming from the third heaven realm.”

Many Christians in the United States and around the world feel free to put up Christian symbols, such as crosses, scripture passages, and pictures of Jesus, inside and outside their homes. Christians in Southeastern China, however, were recently told by state officials to take down these images and symbols. Instead, they were given posters of President Xi Jinping to display. Most of them complied since, in impoverished rural areas, they feared the loss of government support.
In another incident in 2015, over 1,200 crosses were torn down from church buildings in Zhejiang Province and hundreds of house church leaders were arrested. “Many rural people are ignorant,” said one official. “They think God is their Savior.” The Communist Party prefers that people look to the state for help. It appears that the Communist Party in China is gearing up to crack down on Christians who are independent of the state-sanctioned church. Since the majority of Chinese Christians operate in underground “house churches” outside of government control, officials are concerned that these groups could create negative views of the Party.

These are some tough questions, but we must examine our own hearts and repent from a lukewarm attitude towards our Savior. Let’s ask ourselves the first question, “Has my flame for God gone out?” If so, why has it gone out? Usually it is because of sin issues, and sin issues come in all shapes and sizes. But no matter the shape and size of the sin, without repentance it just produces more sin, and sin separates us from God.
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear” (Isa. 59:2). Are you a Christian in name only? Unfortunately, many people are. I remember years ago, we were hosting a particular team from a church in the States. And I had asked the team members to share how they came to Christ. We were listening to these wonderful God-encounters that led to the salvation of these people until we came to one of the co-leaders of the team. And this person shared in front of everyone that her salvation was a private matter. We all knew immediately what that meant. Two shallow earthquakes have struck off the northern coast of Vancouver Island within 10 minutes on January 14, 2017. The first tremor (M4.0) occurred at 10:54 a.m. About 10 minutes later, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck in the same area. The epicenter for both quakes was 159 kilometers west of Port Hardy, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Seismologists do not expect it to have been felt on the Island.
The Cascadia Subduction Zone is a very active region. It’s a part of the plate margin, the region between the Pacific plate and North American plate where we see hundreds of earthquakes each year. The earthquake waves tend to lose quite a bit of energy as they travel from the oceanic plates onto the continental plate, onto Vancouver Island.

At least 14 students and a teacher were injured in a knife rampage at a school in the Russian city of Perm. The teenagers who started the assault may have been inspired by the Columbine High School massacre, according to reports. It all started Monday morning when a knife fight broke out between an 11th grader and a former student “on the grounds of personal enmity,” local investigators told RT. The brawl then spilled into a classroom of fourth-grade students.
The teacher and children tried to separate the two, sustaining injuries as a result. That account is challenged by the students, however, who say there was no fight. They say the two teenagers entered a classroom and went directly to the teacher to stab her before attacking other children in the classroom. A federal judge in Nevada unsealed hundreds of pages of FBI documents about the Las Vegas massacre Friday, giving new insight into the gunman and the months leading up to the deadly mass shooting. The documents, which were released in response to several media lawsuits, include more than a dozen search warrant affidavits. They reveal that gunman Stephen Paddock exchanged emails about buying rifles and bump stocks months before he killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 others when he opened fire on a crowd from a hotel room in October.
The documents show Paddock received an email from a Gmail account in July encouraging him to try an AR-style rifle before buying one. “We have a huge selection in the las vegas area,” the message read. Paddock replied saying that he wanted to test several scopes and different types of ammunition. An email in response suggested trying a bump stock on a 100-round magazine rifle, saying it would be “a thrill.” Paddock’s personal email address and the Gmail address had similar names, leading investigators to suspect he may have been emailing himself, but don’t understand why.

A new survey has revealed that one in four non-believers pray when confronted by tough times – despite insisting they are not religious. For atheists and agnostics, personal crisis or tragedy is the most common reason for them to resort to prayer, with a quarter admitting they pray for comfort or to feel less lonely. Church attendance in Great Britain dropped from 6.5 million to just over 3 million between 1980 and 2015, according to the website Faith Survey.

A third of people pray in the morning or before they go to sleep. People are also increasingly likely to solicit support from God while cooking or exercising. Alibaba has developed an artificial intelligence model that scored better than humans in a Stanford University reading and comprehension test. Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. put its deep neural network model through its paces last week, asking the AI to provide exact answers to more than 100,000 questions comprising a quiz that’s considered one of the world’s most authoritative machine-reading gauges.
The model developed by Alibaba’s Institute of Data Science of Technologies scored 82.44, edging past the 82.304 that rival humans achieved. Alibaba said it’s the first time a machine has out-done a real person in such a contest. Microsoft achieved a similar feat, scoring 82.650 on the same test, but those results were finalized a day after Alibaba’s, the company said. The Chinese e-commerce titan has joined the likes of Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Baidu Inc. in a race to develop AI that can enrich social media feeds, target ads and services or even aid in autonomous driving.

“Trump’s tactics are about strength, taking a stand, and defending his turf and principles, and these things can only help him. Calling out opponents who behave badly, such as Sen. This prevented conservatives from organizing, while the Left was allowed to exercise free speech unhindered.

“There was no need for Russian interference in 2012, we had our own Bolshevik in the White House using the tools of state to maintain power. Next Obama interfered in the 2016 election by using the FBI and DOJ to spy on the Trump campaign. Trump inspired voters because they knew the Republican Party needed a fighter in order to defeat the radical left. The fighting spirit that got Trump elected continues and must continue for him to succeed in office.”

Gilbert argues President Trump’s biggest political challenge is not immigration or the economy, but a progressive movement which has become radically unhinged, even violent.

“Trump’s biggest challenge is and continues to be the ongoing assault by the Democrat party and their allies in the leftist media complex upon American democracy,” he said. “The day after Trump won, about two million anti-democracy protesters took to the streets as the leading Democrats called for ‘resistance.’ Resistance is a military term, not a democratic term. In a democracy, the term is ‘opposition,’ which means ‘opposing opinion’ while ‘resistance’ is a call to violence. Resistance was the term used by anti-Nazi partisans in WWII, and is used today by Islamist terror groups like Hamas.

For generations, American conservatives have been taught to defend free enterprise at all costs. Any hint of regulation of major corporations has been regarded as inevitably leading to socialism. And even the populist President Trump’s main accomplishment thus far has been a reduction in the corporate tax rate.

But one of the American right’s leading voices is calling for a fundamental shift in conservatism. Because it’s not the state which is cracking down on conservatives – it’s tech companies.

“It might be difficult to get your head around what is happening in this country,” Tucker Carlson said in a recent episode of his Fox News show “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” “So much has changed. But here’s the bottom line – the federal government is no longer the main threat to your privacy and to your freedoms. You’ve grown up thinking that; it’s no longer true. Big corporations are the main threat to your freedom and your privacy.”

Carlson argued the government “doesn’t own your private emails: Google does.”

“Federal employees can’t be fired for their political views. Private sector employees are all the time. The federal government can’t end your ability to publicly communicate your ideas. Twitter and Facebook can do that and they do do that all the time. The Orwellian future is increasingly the Orwellian present, and tech barons are becoming our new commissars. Liberals who once admirably stood up for free expression and opposition to concentrations of corporate power have been thoroughly co-opted. They’re getting rich from it.”

Carlson drew attention to the recent lawsuit filed by James Damore against Google, which alleged a systematic anti-white agenda at the powerful corporation, including excluding white men from jobs. Interviewed on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Damore said he was attacked by Google after being fired because the company is nervous.

“I attacked their orthodoxy,” he told Carlson. “They really need to send a message to all their employees that no, you can’t do this, you can’t question our policies.”

But Carlson argues the question goes beyond bias. Indeed, it is almost existential in Carlson’s view.

Because Google has such an overwhelming share of the digital ad market, the company can deny market share, sales and exposure not just to business competitors, but to political opponents. And as Damore’s lawsuit makes clear, there are serious allegations Google does not just lean left, but is a far-left, activist company.

What’s more, as companies such as Google control the private information of consumers, and even control what people can find online, their potential power over the public debate is all but unchallengeable.

Such concerns are especially valid given the mainstream media’s focus on an alleged Russian effort to “hack” the American election by placing ads online. Two corporations, Google and Facebook, have the ability to set the tone for the entire political debate.

“Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter – they all have your private information, they all can control not only what you can see online but what you are allowed to say,” Carlson said. “And maybe, over time, what you are cable of thinking and believing. In many cases their services are additive and harmful, and they know that. But it’s recently become clear tech giants are not just a threat to our privacy but they are a threat to our basic American freedoms. For most people, there’s not much you can do about it except just get increasingly paranoid, but Congress can do a lot.”

A group of five Washington state Christian street preachers who received prior approval of their public evangelism efforts but were nevertheless charged criminally under the guise of violating a noise ordinance won dismissals with the assistance of a nonprofit First Amendment legal defense group.

Police in Washougal, Washington, cited the five for disturbing the peace outside a high school in November. The group obtained approval for their activities from a code enforcement officer prior to the incident.

The street preachers stood on a public sidewalk at the edge of the high-school parking lot, holding signs and speaking to students as they left school after classes had ended. A school resource officer of the Washougal Police Department confronted the street preachers, stating they were breaking the city noise ordinance and telling them the school did not welcome their “protesting.”

One of the criminally charged preachers, who is not named, reportedly spent many years under the iron grip of the former Soviet Union. He held a sign with a Bible verse, handed out gospel tracts to students, and told them, “Jesus loves you.” The aggressive reaction from the school and the police reminded him of similar harassment and complaints to the KGB in response to his preaching in Russia, his attorney said.

The group was successfully represented by Kevin Snider of the Pacific Justice Institute. All charges were dropped after Snider explained to the prosecuting attorney in detail the unconstitutionality of the city’s ordinance.

“We cannot afford to lose our most basic First Amendment freedoms in America,” said Brad Dacus, president and founder of PJI. “It is sobering that what our clients experienced in this case reminded them of experiences in the former Soviet Union. We commend the prosecutor for agreeing to drop these charges, and we remain vigilant for similar threats to freedom throughout the country.”

In the last six months, PJI has represented numerous public evangelists against criminal charges in California, Nevada, Washington, Pennsylvania, Texas and Michigan.

WASHINGTON – Quietly, and without any fanfare from major media, Donald Trump has unveiled his plan for getting Mexico to pay for the border wall.

He says he plans to offer a new deal on NAFTA that will share increased revenues between the two countries more equitably, a small portion of which will be diverted to pay for the cost of the wall.

The Trump administration is currently seeking federal funding for the wall while renegotiating the U.S. trade deal with both Mexico and Canada.

“They can pay for it indirectly through NAFTA,” Trump said Thursday in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “We make a good deal on NAFTA, and, say, ‘I’m going to take a small percentage of that money and it’s going toward the wall.’ Guess what? Mexico’s paying.”

Trump’s comments came hours after he was updated by his administration’s top economic and trade advisers on the progress of those negotiations and the administration’s trade actions more broadly.

Trump repeatedly promised during the campaign that he would build a wall on the Southern U.S. border and get Mexico to pay for it. Democrats are refusing even to approve a budget without a bill to approve DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which he rescinded in the fall.

Trump warned Thursday that if Mexico did not agree to new terms on the free trade deal, known formally as the North American Free Trade Agreement, then he would simply “terminate” the deal.

“Now, Mexico may not want to make the NAFTA deal, which is OK, then I’ll terminate NAFTA, which I think would be frankly a positive for our country,” Trump said.

An entertainment personality known as an “all-around provocateur,” Russell Brand, has explained in an interview with Relevant Magazine that Christ makes his life makes sense.

“My personal feeling is the teachings of Christ are more relevant now than they’ve ever been,” he said, continuing, “If Christ consciousness is not accessible to us, then what is the point of the story of Jesus, you know? He’s just a sort of a scriptural rock star, just an icon. Unless Christ is right here, right now, in your heart, in your consciousness, then what is Christ?”

Brand famously fought battles with sex, drug and alcohol addictions, and while he’s years past reaching out to a multi-step program that seeks help from a higher power in leaving those behind, he’s just out now with his book “Recovery: Freedom From Our Additions.”

He explained, “I do think a spiritual and transcendent change is required for people to be free from addiction. And by spiritual change, I mean the transition from one’s life being predicated on self-fulfillment to a life predicated on service, which for me is a moment-to-moment struggle.”

He explains that the key to overcoming his addictions – he once was caught at a party shooting up heroin in the host’s bathroom – is admitting the need for help.

“Already having been arrested a dozen times for drug-related incidents, Brand was caught shooting up heroin in the bathroom during an office Christmas party by his agent, who knew that Brand’s life was now legitimately at risk,” Relevant said. “After an intervention orchestrated by his agent, Brand embraced recovery—not just as a means of getting clean, but as a way of seeing the world. The experience radically changed him, and he’s since become an advocate for what’s known as the 12-step program, an addiction recovery method based largely on Christian principles that is centered on a reliance on a higher power, self-reflection and forgiveness.”

From his troubled upbringing and his bohemian lifestyle, he concedes he doesn’t exactly fit the caricature of a traditional Christian.

“My understanding of what religion means altered,” Brand explained. “Because when I think about the aim, the purpose of religion, I think it becomes—when you put aside the social institutions that spring up around religions in all their strains and various forms of strands—I believe that the purpose of religion is love and connection, to feel connected to one another and to feel at ease with who we are … a kind of oneness, a kind of wholeness. So, as I began to understand that, this sort of superficial language of religion seemed less relevant.”

But he’s never far from what he considers important.

“Because I come from a Christian culture, a lot of the language of prayer that I use is Christian,” he explains. “I say the Lord’s Prayer every day. I try to connect to what those words mean. I connect to what the Father means. I connect to what wholeness means to me. I think about the relationship between forgiveness and being forgiven and the impossibility of redemption until you are willing to forgive and let go.”

The United Nations is being warned about a “disingenuous and illegitimate” attempt to create a new nation – Palestine – without having any of the internationally accepted components at hand.

The move came from Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, “in a fit of pique,” after President Donald Trump announced he would allow the implementation of a 20-year-old law in the U.S. that formally recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

In response, Abbas claimed that the PA intended to accede to 22 different international conventions and agreements.

However, the European Center for Law and Justice, in a letter to U.N. chief Antonio Guterres, pointed out that that’s simply not how things are done.

“For a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to, the PA’s inability to accede to such treaties as a ‘state’ (since it fails to meet minimal criteria for statehood under customary international law), its wholly disingenuous and illegitimate reasons for signing on to such agreements, and its clear breach of the Oslo Accords in doing so, Palestinian accession to such agreements must be rejected,” the center told the U.N.

The letter this week, signed by Jay Sekulow, who also heads the American Center for Law and Justice, urged the U.N. to “disqualify” the PA from signing treaties.

The Trump decision regarding Jerusalem, it explained, “was a lawful act by a sovereign state, subject to neither censure nor approval by foreign powers.”

But the Palestinian Authority still has obtained no action “with respect to the creation or existence of a Palestinian ‘State,'” it said.

“Under the U.N. Charter, the General Assembly has no lawful authority whatsoever to create or recognize a ‘state.’ The U.N. does not officially recognize states or declare statehood; such actions are the responsibility of individual governments,” it continued.

“Further, when the states of the world gather together to make decisions as members of the U.N. General Assembly, they are bound by the explicit terms of the U.N. Charter as to what they may do,” it continued, meaning it would be out of bounds for the U.N. to create a “state.”

The letter pointed out even the Palestinians accept that, as Abbas recently “announced … .2017 would be ‘the year of the independent Palestinian state.'”

“PA officials have made it clear that their signing of these international conventions has nothing to do with a genuine interest in upholding the norms contained within them, but is merely being done in reprisal for the United States’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” the letter explained.

After all, the same thing happened in 2014, when the PA was “upset” over Israel’s decisions regarding the release of prisoners.

If a non-qualified participant is allowed to sign a treaty, “the meaning and value of such agreements will be forever cheapened and tarnished.”

“It is clear from its actions that the PA is intent on conducting its affairs as if a Palestinian ‘State’ already exists, in the hope that nations and other international actors will ignore the PA’s utter failure to meet even the most basic requirements of statehood under customary international law,” the letter said.

Allowing a non-state actor to play the role of a nation is no more than appeasement and “is both illogical and dangerous and serves as a powerful disincentive for the PA to engage in the good-faith negotiations needed to actually resolve the issues.”

Officials with the ECLJ explained the letter calls out what the PA and its supporters are trying to do now, that “they have been unable to do anywhere and everywhere else: unilaterally create a would-be Palestinian ‘state.'”

Back in 2014, the ECLJ explained, after walking away from negotiations with Israel, the PA decided to sign a large group of international treaties and conventions all at once. Their reasoning was that since treaties and conventions can only be signed by states, their being allowed to sign them is now proof that they are a state.

“That’s not how treaties work. That’s not how international law works. That’s not how any of this works,” the ECLJ said.

“The very act of allowing non-state actors to ‘sign’ on to treaties and conventions makes a mockery of international law. It not only belittles the important topics of those treaties, but it weakens their enforcement and cheapens their effectiveness.”

While the conventions regarding suppressing nuclear war, the sale of children, child prostitution, trafficking, organized crime and more, are important, “These essential and imperative conventions are being used by the PA to score cheap political points. These conventions and treaties represent an international response to real life horrors like human trafficking, rape, child prostitution, and nuclear war; and this flippant use of them to score would-be political points must not be allowed.

“We notified the U.N. Secretary-General of this fact and made him aware that this kind of cheap ploy should not be allowed to move forward,” the team said.

LEGISLATOR CALLS ON FEDS TO GIVE UP LAND OWNERSHIP
No constitutional right to 'grazing, mineral development, agriculture, forests, or even national parks'

If President Trump wants to be known as a president seeking the restoration of the U.S. Constitution, one of his goals should be to turn federal lands – the millions of acres run by the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service and National Park Service – over to the states.

It’s because the Constitution doesn’t allow for federal ownership of land unless it’s for certain limited purposes, argues a former California lawmaker.

Steve Baldwin served in the California Assembly from 1994 to 2000 and was minority whip during that time. He’s argued in a new report in the American Spectator that two recent cases highlight the problem with the federal government owning vast acreages.

And he says the solution is in the Constitution.

“Most Americans have no clue what our founders said about federal land management. The Constitution’s Property Clause (Article IV, Section 3, Clause 2) gave Congress the power to dispose of property, but does not mention a power to acquire property. However, under the Necessary and Proper Clause (Article I, Section 8, Clause 18), the federal government was given the power to acquire land but only for the purpose of carrying out its enumerated powers. This would include parcels for military uses, post offices, etc.

“Nowhere does the Constitution give the federal government the power to retain acreage for unenumerated purposes such as grazing, mineral development, agriculture, forests, or even national parks. This was wisely left up to the prerogative of the states and the people.”

He noted the issue has arisen before.

Sen. Tom Coburn has come up with the answer to a Washington bureaucracy that doesn’t seem to care about the Constitution, or American people: An Article V convention, which he describes in “Smashing the DC Monopoly: Using Article V to Restore Freedom and Stop Runaway Government.”

“Most Americans have forgotten this, but the shady tactics of federal land management agencies were a big issue in Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign. At the time, the movement of those fighting such abuses was called the ‘Sagebrush Rebellion,’ and this issue propelled tens of thousands of voters to support Reagan’s candidacy. To be honest, though, Reagan was unable to carry out any substantial reforms regarding federal land ownership.

“If Trump wants to go down in history as a president who restored the federal government to its proper limited role, then he should revitalize this forgotten section of the U.S. Constitution and transfer all non-enumerated federal land back to the states. Such action will allow states to control their own destinies, create better managed parks and preserves, and create tens of thousands of new jobs by energizing natural resource industries such as oil, natural gas, mining, and timber.

“This is a perfect issue for him. Be bold, Mr. President, and just do it.”

The two issues that came up recently, he explained, were Trump’s decision to reduce the size of federal land grabs under Bill Clinton and the fight over the Bundy Ranch grazing rights.

“Both events illustrate how the federal government has used its massive land holdings to control the lives of Americans,” he said.

At this point, the federal bureaucracy has acquired some 640 million acres of the nation, about one-third.

“The majority of land in Nevada, Alaska, Utah, Oregon and Idaho is owned by the feds. In Arizona, California, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado, federal ownership exceeds a third. Indeed, if all 11 Western states were combined into one territory, the feds would own nearly 50 percent of it,” he wrote.

The Utah land fight saw Trump knock down the size of the lands demanded under Clinton and Barack Obama from 3.2 million acres to about 1.2 million.

“Not surprisingly, the left went ballistic, but the truth is Trump is the one acting in accord with the Constitution and in the best interest of the people of Utah, and even the environment,” he pointed out.

“Both of these land grabs were initiated with little or no input from Utah’s civic, political, and business leaders. And, of course, as with most Democrat ‘environmental’ initiatives, cronyism and corruption are evident. For example, Bill Clinton’s Utah land grab — the ‘Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’ — placed off-limits all energy development, including the world’s largest known deposit of clean burning coal. Not coincidentally, this proviso also quietly benefited the owners of the world’s second-largest deposit of clean burning coal: the Lippo group, owned by the Indonesia-based Riady family and, of course, large donors to the Clinton Foundation (and huge Clinton donors going back decades).”

In the Bundy case, in which a federal judge recently dismissed counts and ordered the government not to file more charges because of massive prosecutorial misconduct in the first case, the Bureau of Land Management launched a police-state action against the ranching family over payment of grazing rights fees.

The family argued the land belonged to the state and the feds had no right to charge fees.

Baldwin’s report explained how former BLM Special Agent and whistleblower Larry Wooten pulled back the curtain on the government’s nefarious activities.

Wooten wrote, “the investigation revealed a widespread pattern of bad judgment, lack of discipline, incredible bias, unprofessionalism and misconduct, as well as likely policy, ethical, and legal violations among senior and supervisory staff at the BLM’s office of Law Enforcement and Security.”

For example, Wooten explained, the BLM posted photos of the Bundy family with x’s on their faces “as if they were to be eliminated.”

His report includes statements attributed to officials such as “Go out there and kick Cliven Bundy in the mouth (or teeth) and take his cattle.”

Other comments by the government included, “rednecks,” “retards” and “douche bags,” the report said.

Baldwin explained that there certainly were nefarious components to the Bundy ranch fight.

“Reports … indicated that former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had teamed up with Chinese billionaire Wang Yusuo in an effort to create a massive 9,000-acre solar energy farm on the same federal land apparently used by Bundy to graze cattle. And Yusuo’s company, the ENN Group, contributed over $40,000 to Reid over the course of three election cycles. One BLM document makes clear that Bundy’s cattle grazing negatively impacted potential solar farm development on this land,” he explained.

When that plan fell apart, Reid began working on another project “which, again, targets the area Bundy’s cattle grazes on.”
According to Courtwatcherblog, “Harry Reid’s interests are clear. He doesn’t care about public lands, but what he stands to profit off of their sale, no matter if it’s sold to China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, or even South Africa… the facts show Harry Reid’s interests in the Bundy men being in jail, make it a lot easier to grab their land…”
Baldwin said returning land to the states would restore the constitutional standard, and would energize the economies of many states.
Baldwin explains that it was during federal convention debates in 1787 that Elbridge Gerry, later vice president, issued a warning. He said federal ownership of land “might be made use of to enslave any particular state by buying up its territory, and that the strongholds proposed would be a means of awing the state into an undue obedience.”

The mainstream media was aflame on Friday over reports that President Trump was derogatory about less-developed countries and the immigrants they send to the United States.

According to sources that wouldn’t identify themselves, he called those countries: “S—holes.”

But the nation should ignore the words used, and focus on the results reached by the president, according to talk radio superstar Rush Limbaugh.

The conversation was about Democrat demands that illegal aliens already in the country be protected, even given citizenship and the vote. They had had an open discussion with the president earlier, and appeared confident that their new proposal, to hand out citizenships and voting rights – without much if any border security – was about to be moved forward.

Then they presented it to Trump.

“And what did Donald Trump do?” Limbaugh said on Friday, while the mainstream media repeated, over and over and over, what the two unidentified sources claim Trump said.

“He blew the whole thing up with one question, with one question he blew it up. And you know what the question was? Forget the words used. The question was: Why do you people on the Democrat side want to continue to bring people to this country that are not going to benefit this country? Why instead do you not want to bring the best and brightest of the world to this country? Limbaugh said the Democrats had left the earlier meeting in the White House “thinking that they were on the verge of getting a deal on two things: the DREAMers, the DACA kids and comprehensive immigration reform.”

He said the answer to why the Democrats are insistent on those actions is clear.

“Because Jennifer Palmieri of the Center for American Progress let the cat out of the bag earlier this week by admitting something that we all knew, and that is that the Democrats’ version of immigration is all about securing additional votes. She let the cat out of the bag, and that’s what they were going up doing, and Trump knows it,” Limbaugh said.

He reports that the Center For American Progress Action Fund distributed a memo saying illegal immigrants brought into the United States at a young age are a “critical component of the Democratic Party’s future electoral success.”

In fact, a report suggested that four or five GOP-majority states could be shoved into the Dems’ column if those hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens abruptly are given the vote.

The memo was sent by Palmieri to allies asking Democrats to “refuse to offer any votes for Republican spending bills that do not offer a fix for Dreamers and instead appropriate funds to deport them.”

In essence, it was a call to shut down the government, since its funding runs out next week unless the GOP and Democrats agree on further spending.

The memo explained if Dreamers don’t get the vote, it would “jeopardize Democrats’ electoral changes in 2018 and beyond.”

While reports on Friday confirmed that former President Obama used comparatively offensive terminology, too, and was defended by those in the media, there’s a long list of previous presidents and vice presidents who have expressed their feelings with very strong words.

Those include, besides Obama multiple times, Abraham Lincoln, Vice President Joe Biden, Vice President Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, John F. Kennedy and Harry Truman.

Limbaugh explained that after the earlier meeting, Democrats thought Trump was “weakened.”

“And they show up and they present this to him. And his reaction, forget the word that he used, or is alleged to have used, the terms or what have you, you can have your thought on that or not. But his question to them was essentially, ‘Why in the world do you look at this issue as something that is not helpful to this country? It’s only helpful to you.'”

He said it’s a good thing that the DACA deal is “blown sky-high.”

He pointed out that Democrats say they cannot deport people to such places, that are in strife, poverty-racked and more.

“Trump said, ‘Why do you want them in the first place?’ And then he threw in ‘Why not people from Norway?’ Well, of course that caused another conniption fit, because then the Democrats in the room, ‘A-ha. He’s a racist. He’s a pig. He’s a racist. We knew it.’ And now they can’t stop talking about it. They offend me far more than Donald Trump does,” Limbaugh said

Trump, however, looked at what the Democrats wanted, and “instinctively understood that this is rotten, that this is not anywhere near making America great again.”

“Remember, the Democrats want these people as voters. The Democrats need a permanent underclass. Donald Trump is looking at all of this. Every bit of his agenda as aimed at making America great again. It’s not just a slogan with him. So when you strip away all the wording and all of the histrionics and this overblown and offended, ‘Oh, my God,’ reaction to what he said… When you look at the substance… There’s a column here by Scott Greer at The Daily Caller. The headline is right on the money: ‘Trump Blows up the Immigration Debate with Just One Question.”

He said the media is lathered up about the comment because they live for their hope that something will happen that will force Trump out.

“The big picture today — and I think the media gets this, and I think it’s one of the reasons they’re ticked off. Donald Trump blew up a Democrat dream of amnesty for DREAMers.”
