Words of Wisdom

"What the vast majority of American children need is to

chauffeured, and stop being catered to. In the final
analysis it is not what you do for your children but
what you have taught them to do for themselves that

give our children. One is roots; the other, wings." --
Hodding Carter

The following are quotes from Billy Graham:

"Overcoming Adversity: Comfort and prosperity have
never enriched the world as much as adversity has."

"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand,
the spines of others are stiffened."

"Business: Hot heads and cold hearts never solved
anything."

"Attitude: If a person gets his attitude toward money
straight, it will help straighten out almost every
other area in his life."

"Belief: We cannot truly face life until we face the
fact that it will be taken away from us."

"Character: When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when
health is lost, something is lost; when character is
lost, all is lost."

 Modern Man
"When we look at modern man, we have to face the fact
that modern man suffers from a kind of poverty of the
spirit. This stands in glaring contrast to his
scientific and technological abundance. We've learned
to fly the air like birds, we've learned to swim the
seas like fish, and yet, we haven't learned to walk the
earth as brothers and sisters."

mentally faithful to himself." -- Thomas Paine

William Wrigley Jr.

"I can accept failure. Everyone fails at something. But
I can't accept not trying." -- Michael Jordan

"We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected
the Sermon on the Mount ... The world has achieved
brilliance without conscience. Ours is a world of
nuclear giants and ethical infants." -- General Omar
Bradley

what we give." -- Winston Churchill

"I always view problems as opportunities in work
clothes." -- Henry Kaiser, businessman

The Power of Reading

I have read how a young Christian was discouraged in
his attempts to read and remember the Bible. He said,
"It's no use. No matter how much I read, I always
forget what I have just read."

A wise pastor replied, "Take heart. When you pour
water over a sieve, no matter how much you pour, you
don't collect much. But at least you can end up with a
clean sieve."1

Even if we can't remember a great deal of what we read,
if we keep reading God's word, quality books, uplifting
magazine articles, the content will rub off on us and
have a much greater effect on our thinking and life
than we realize.

"When you give someone a book, you don't give him
just paper, ink, and glue. You give him the
possibility of a whole new life." Christopher
Morley 1890-1957, Novelist, Journalist and Poet

Take time every day both to read and to pray. As
prayer changes things so does constructive reading.

Words of Wisdom -- Integrity/Honesty

"Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a man who won't cheat, then you know he never will." -- John D. MacDonald
"Each time you are honest and conduct yourself with honesty, a success force will drive you toward greater success. Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are strong forces pushing you toward failure." -- Joseph Sugarman
"The first virtue of all really great men is that they are sincere. They eradicate hypocrisy from their hearts." -- Anatole France
"The proof of integrity is what you do when no one is looking." -- Denis Waitley

From Beliefnet -- "Today's Quotes"

Four things you cannot recover
The stone ... after the throw.
The word ... after it's said.
The occasion ... after it's missed.
The time ... after it's gone.
