Depression says: "But he himself went a days journey into the
wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for
himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take
away my life; for I am not better than my fathers." I Kings 19:4
God says: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I
am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will
uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isaiah 41:10
Depression says: "And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray
thee, out of hand, if I have found favor in thy sight; and let me not see
my wretchedness." Numbers 11:15
God says: "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye
not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." Matthew 10:
30-31
Depression says: "Therefore I hated my life; because the work that is
wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and
vexation of spirit." Ecclesiastes 2:17
God says: "For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying
unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." Isaiah 41:13
Depression says: "So I returned, and considered all the oppressions
that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were
oppressed, and they had no comforter: and on the side of their oppressors
there was power; but they had no comforter. Wherefore I praised the dead
which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive."
Ecclesiastes 4:1-2
God says: "And I pray the Father, and he shall give you another
comforter, that he may abide with you, for ever: Even the Spirit of truth;
whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth
him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I
will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." John 14:16-18
Depression says: "My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my
complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul." Job 10:1
"For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength
faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed." Psalm
31:10
God says: "But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, (your name)
and he that formed thee, (your name), Fear not: for I have redeemed
thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest
through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they
shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not
be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord
thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:...." Isaiah 43:1-3
Satan wishes to do to us what he wished to do to Peter. "And the Lord
said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may
sift you as wheat:" Luke 22:31 But the Lord has also done for us what
He did for Peter. "But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not:
and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren." Luke 22:32
The Bible tells us over and over that we will all face problems.
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are
able: but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may
be able to bear it." I Corinthians 10:13
It’s what we choose to do with these temptations that will either
help or hinder us. "But ye have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the
excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled
on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.
Persecuted, but not forsaken, cast down, but not destroyed;" II
Corinthians 4:7-9
Only through the power of God and His Holy Word will we receive the
victory. Are you subject to depression? The next time Satan puts
"stinkin’ thinkin’" into your brain stop and consider all that you mean to God
first; then get out His love letter to you and read, read, read. Then
when you have ammunition from God’s Word use it as Jesus used it in
Matthew chapter four to defeat that old devil.
"What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be
against us?" Romans 8:31
