Every great civilization throughout human history has eventually collapsed, and if we want to have any hope of escaping the same fate, we need to be willing to learn some lessons from the past.  
Because many of the same factors that caused the collapse of previous civilizations are weighing very heavily on the United States of America today.  
According to the BBC, the average lifespan of a great civilization is 336 years from beginning to end.  But that doesn't mean that America will make it that long.  
Our nation is currently 242 years old, and there are signs of advanced social decay all around us.  If we remain on the road that we are currently on, there are many that believe that complete and utter collapse is not too far away.
Ultimately, what does a "society" consist of?
According to Luke Kemp of the University of Cambridge, societies are "just complex systems composed of people and technology"...
Societies of the past and present are just complex systems composed of people and technology. The theory of "normal accidents" suggests that complex technological systems regularly give way to failure. So collapse may be a normal phenomenon for civilisations, regardless of their size and stage.
We may be more technologically advanced now. But this gives little ground to believe that we are immune to the threats that undid our ancestors. Our newfound technological abilities even bring new, unprecedented challenges to the mix.
It is not easy to keep an extremely complex society running, and there have been so many factors that have played a role in collapsing previous civilizations.  War, natural disasters, environmental shifts, social degradation, economic problems and disease are just a few examples.
And as Kemp has pointed out, sometimes societies simply collapse "under the weight of their own accumulated complexity and bureaucracy"...
Collapse expert and historian Joseph Tainter has proposed that societies eventually collapse under the weight of their own accumulated complexity and bureaucracy. Societies are problem-solving collectives that grow in complexity in order to overcome new issues. However, the returns from complexity eventually reach a point of diminishing returns. After this point, collapse will eventually ensue.

For generations, U.S. churches sent missionaries around the world, preaching the Gospel and planting churches in places such as Africa, South America, and Asia. 
Today, many of the millions of Christians and churches that resulted from those missionary efforts are more biblically faithful than their American forebears. This is especially true of certain denominations and certain issues.

   

 
These daughter-churches overseas, traditional as they are, remain in communion with their now-liberal mother-churches. Which poses a serious challenge. 
Actually, it would be accurate to say that the central concern of many in these mother churches today is advancing sexual heresy--especially LGBT theology. And it would be accurate to say that the churches they helped to plant, praise God, aren't budging.
Many mainline denominations stateside have exerted tremendous pressure on churches overseas to give up the 2,000-year-old understanding of the Bible and morality for the new sexual heresy. 
In doing so, they've been guilty co-conspirators with progressive governmental activists of a kind of ideological colonialism. And then, they act surprised when their actions create serious tensions and even splits in their denominations.
The tensions in one of the largest Protestant communions in the world, the United Methodist Church, has taken center stage this past week.

In movies involving fraternities, there is usually a hazing scene where pledges are repeatedly -- and willingly -- paddled from behind. Listening to people who routinely claim that Israel is solely responsible for the absence of peace and could solve the problem by being nice to the Palestinians reminds me of those pledges.
I am not referring in this article to blatant antisemites. I'm talking about the Tom Friedmans, Roger Cohens, and Peter Beinarts of the world, who proclaim their love for Israel while myopically casting blame for the conflict there solely on Israel. I am not sure if the blame-Israel-first crowd is terminally naïve, ignorant of history, oblivious -- or all three.
When people talk, for example, about how the Palestinians are so committed to the land they claim as their own, you never hear them mention the fact that most gave up their land rather than fight for it in 1948. Apologists speciously claim that the Jews drove the Palestinians out and turned them into refugees; however, the handful of Palestinians who were expelled pales in comparison to the tens of thousands who left on their own accord, many believing that they would return after the Jews were driven into the sea.
We hear ad nauseum how the Palestinians are suffering under Israeli "occupation," yet neither the Palestinians nor their supporters were concerned with the treatment of the Palestinians during the 19 years that Jordan occupied the West Bank and Egypt the Gaza Strip. The Palestinians did not fight for "their" land during those years; they also never demanded statehood. Instead, they engaged in terror in the hope of seizing the Jews' land.

"Be ready for battle." That's how the South China Morning Post, the Hong Kong newspaper that increasingly reflects the Communist Party line, summarized Xi Jinping's first order this year to the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Xi, in his own words, which were broadcasted nationwide, demanded this: "prepare for a comprehensive military struggle from a new starting point."
China's bold leader has been threatening neighbors and the United States with frequency during the last several months. "Xi is not just toying with war," Victor Mair of the University of Pennsylvania wrote on the Fanell Red Star Rising listserve this month. "He's daring himself to actually start one. He's in a dangerous frame of mind."
Dangerous indeed. From Washington to New Delhi, policymakers wonder whether China will begin history's next great conflict. Beijing of course wants to "win without fighting," but the actions Xi Jinping are taking could lead to fighting nonetheless. The persecution of Christians in Iran in 2018 increased to a new level, according to an in-depth report jointly released by Open Doors, Middle East Concern, Article 18, and Christian Solidarity Worldwide.
"The end of 2018 saw an unprecedented wave of raids on private house gatherings, leading to a large number of arrests. Many Christians received prison sentences, or had sentences upheld by the Court of Appeal," noted the report.

In recent weeks, several publications have put out alarming stories that evangelical support for Israel is sinking -- and especially among young people. The periodicals state that a new survey reveals that there is confusion about, or indifference to, the world's only Jewish state.
It is really a two-pronged phenomenon. There is a decline in the interest in end-times (eschatology) and a decline in interest and support for God's Covenant land and people by those who identify as a part of the today's church.
The Christian Post states, "Seventy-seven percent of evangelicals, ages 65 and older, say they support the existence, security and prosperity of Israel, according to a Life Way Research survey. But only 58 percent of evangelicals ages 18 to 34 say the same."
The various articles indicate that young people are focused on social justice now. There is a perception that the Palestinians are "downtrodden, persecuted, and mistreated," and therefore, sympathy is towards them. Israel is the "occupier."
Adding to the survey were Joel Rosenberg and Chosen People Ministries. Istanbul recently hosted the second "International Islamic Union Congress," sponsored mainly by the Strategic Research Center for Defenders of Justice (ASSAM), which is headed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's chief military advisor, Adnan Tanriverdi, a retired lieutenant general and an Islamist .

At the conference, Tanriverdi delivered a speech detailing the inner workings of the "Islamic Confederal State" that ASSAM aims to establish with 61 Muslim countries. In his address, Tanriverdi said that a "rapid deployment force" should be created. 
Judging by an article Tanriverdi penned in 2009, the purpose of this joint Islamic force is to defeat Israel, which "should be made to get engaged [in war] and the length of the war should be extended."
"If Israel has to call all of its reserve soldiers to duty," he explained, "there will be no one left at home or in their businesses. It cannot continue like that for a long time."
Tanriverdi also suggested how this could be accomplished:
"The Defense Ministers of Islamic Countries should be invited to an urgent meeting, at which possibilities for 'defense cooperation' should be examined; Turkey, Iran, Syria, the Iraqi Resistance Organization and Palestine should be the core of this cooperation."
Within this context, he said, a "'rapid Deployment Force of Islam,' which will consist of an amphibious brigade, an armored brigade and an aero-landing brigade, should be encouraged."
He went on:
"A peace force of Islamic countries should be deployed in Gaza... International efforts should continue, and the use of military force in Islamic countries should be encouraged. A joint military operation by our ground, naval and air forces should be carried out in the international waters of the Eastern Mediterranean. Aid convoys from Turkey, accompanied by Turkish warplanes, should land at the Gaza port. The resistance movements in Gaza should be supported with anti-tank and low-altitude anti-aircraft weapons.

Abortion, in and of itself, is a moral horror. But for abortion activists to claim the name of Jesus Christ in order to justify killing unborn children, that crosses over into new territory. 
I'm not talking about the moral gymnastics of equivocation employed by so many Christian progressives to justify abortion in extreme cases, as wrong and harmful as that is. I'm talking about Christians actually celebrating and promoting abortion as God's work. 
For instance, those mainline Protestant priests and pastors who pray God's blessing over abortion clinics. That's just blasphemy.
Dr. Willie Parker is a self-proclaimed follower of Christ who's even willing to go further. He calls himself a "Christian abortion doctor" that does "the Lord's work."
Parker has been a favorite spokesman for the pro-abortion movement for some time now, landing puff-pieces and interviews with TIME magazine, where he self-appropriates the civil rights mantle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. That's sickeningly ironic, considering a disproportionate number of babies killed by abortion are black.
In his book, "Life's Work: A Moral Argument for Choice," Dr.  Parker claims he began terminating pregnancies after an "epiphany" inspired by one of Dr. King's sermons, the one on the parable of the Good Samaritan. Once again, the irony of using a parable about saving a life in order to sanctify taking lives seems lost on him.

In fact, one expert described what is happening to the global insect population as "hyper-alarming".  If we continue down the path that we are currently on, a bleak, apocalyptic future for our planet is all but assured.
When scientist Brad Lister recently returned to the Luquillo rainforest in Puerto Rico, he quickly realized that something was very, very wrong.  And once his team began taking measurements, they discovered that 98 percent of the insect population on the ground was completely gone...
"We knew that something was amiss in the first couple days," said Brad Lister. "We were driving into the forest and at the same time both Andres and I said: 'Where are all the birds?' There was nothing."
His return to the Luquillo rainforest in Puerto Rico after 35 years was to reveal an appalling discovery. The insect population that once provided plentiful food for birds throughout the mountainous national park had collapsed. On the ground, 98% had gone. Up in the leafy canopy, 80% had vanished.
But if this was just happening in Puerto Rico, it definitely would not be a global crisis.
Unfortunately, similar numbers are coming in from all over the planet...
Flying insect numbers in Germany's natural reserves have plunged 75% in just 25 years. The virtual disappearance of birds in an Australian eucalyptus forest was blamed on a lack of insects caused by drought and heat. Lister and his colleague Andrés García also found that insect numbers in a dry forest in Mexico had fallen 80% since the 1980s.

Many liberals and progressives support the Palestinian cause for justifiable reasons. What I find mystifying, however, is how so many liberals can advocate for Palestinians, when the Palestinians' views and behavior are the antithesis of nearly everything that progressives claim to believe in.
While it is convenient to blame Israel's "occupation" for Palestinian behavior, the truth is that the Palestinians are responsible for their own actions. Activists here, however, are unwilling to acknowledge that they have any ability to control their fate.
The Palestinian draft constitution calls for Islam to be the state religion of any new state. And many Palestinians, even those unaffiliated with Hamas, have become increasingly radicalized. For decades, generations of Palestinians have indoctrinated their children about the need to murder Jews -- much of this based on their interpretation of Islam -- and have managed to erase Jews from the history of the area.

All over America retailers are going bankrupt and closing stores.  Of course this has been happening for years, but as you will see below the numbers have dramatically escalated during the early portion of 2019.  
Our landscape is already littered with countless numbers of hollowed out stores and abandoned malls, and it is about to get a whole lot worse.  
Retailers were hoping that a strong holiday season would turn things around, but that didn't happen.  In fact, we just learned that retail sales in the United States suffered "their biggest drop in more than nine years" during the month of December...
U.S. retail sales recorded their biggest drop in more than nine years in December as receipts fell across the board, suggesting a sharp slowdown in economic activity at the end of 2018.
The Commerce Department said on Thursday retail sales tumbled 1.2 percent, the largest decline since September 2009 when the economy was emerging from recession.
Every time I write an article like this, a few commenters chime in and blame this entire trend on the rise of online retailing.  And without a doubt online retailing has been growing in recent years, but it still accounts for less than 10 percent of the entire industry.
If online retail sales were to blame for this latest drop, you would expect to see that reflected in the numbers.  But instead, when we look at the numbers what we find is that online retailers experienced "the biggest drop ever" during the month of December...

Top US Admiral Warns Of Iran's Growing Military Capability

Iran possesses improved and dangerous missile and maritime capabilities that enable the regime to threaten their adversaries, according to the top U.S. admiral in the Middle East.
"They have a growing capability in cruise missiles, they have a growing capability in ballistic missiles, they have a growing capability in unmanned surfaced systems, all these things that we watch that are offensive, and destabilizing in nature," said Vice Adm. James Malloy, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, in front of a group of reporters in Bahrain on Wednesday.
Computerized surface systems, which can consist of explosive ships intended to hit enemy vessels, have alarmed U.S. officials recently, especially after Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen used such a ship to target a Saudi Arabian vessel.
Additionally, the regime's military has advanced sea mines, including those that are magnetic acoustic--weaponry that can threaten crucial waterways, a U.S. defense official told CNN.
"The official said the new air defenses are just one aspect of a changing security environment that could result in traditional ports being not readily accessible due to Iranian missiles and mines," reported CNN.
The United States has determined that the Islamic Republic is in the beginning steps of utilizing the S-300 system. It is the same air-defense system that Russia deployed to Syria late last year. Iran and Russia are allied in Syria to maintain Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.
Moscow has also sold air defense systems to Iran, including the S-300. This "has sparked growing concern that within five years the U.S. will have to fundamentally change how it operates in the region's critical waterways," reported CNN, citing a senior U.S. military official.

In 1957, the social psychologist Leon Festinger coined the term "cognitive dissonance" to describe the stress that results from holding two or more contradictory beliefs at the same time.
According to Festinger, people will attempt to alleviate the stress by either changing their minds about one of the ideas or, more commonly, convincing themselves the ideas really aren't contradictory. The latter usually results in an incoherent mess, something a recent Barna report amply demonstrates.
The report, entitled "Reviving Evangelism," found that virtually every practicing American Christian believes that "part of their faith means being a witness about Jesus." Similarly, virtually all of them agree that "the best thing that could ever happen to someone is for them to know Jesus."
This sounds like a solid foundation for "reviving evangelism," doesn't it? Yet, the same study found that "nearly half (47 percent) of practicing Christian millennials--churchgoers who consider religion an important part of their lives--believe that evangelism is wrong."
Specifically, they believe it's "wrong to share one's personal beliefs with someone of a different faith in hopes they will one day share the same faith."
If you're wondering how one can simultaneously believe that knowing Jesus is the best thing that could happen to a person and that telling that same person about Jesus is somehow wrong, you understand what cognitive dissonance means.

Late last year, an Orwellian gun bill was presented in New York state. If signed into law, anyone who wants to buy a gun would have to turn over three years of their social media history and one year of their internet search history.
"A three-year review of a social media profile would give an easy profile of a person who is not suitable to hold and possess a firearm," said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, who has proposed the legislation with New York State Senator Kevin Parker. 
Before purchasing a gun, applicants would have to turn over their social media passwords to accounts like Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. They would also have to allow police to see a year's worth of their searches on Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported late last year that Americans aren't having enough babies to replace themselves. In fact, a record one in five American women will never have children, and those who do will, on average, never exceed two. 
As a result, the death rate is outpacing the birth rate, which means--except for immigration--the U.S. has joined many developed countries on the long, slow road of population decline.
That's bad news. Not having enough children as a society has costs that are hard to appreciate on the individual level. We know from examples like Japan and much of Europe that aging countries become economically top-heavy, especially those that promise extensive government services to the elderly. 
This results in runaway aging and population decline, and negatively impacts every sector of the economy except for maybe healthcare, depending on how you look at that one. It also places heavier and heavier burdens on the shoulders of an ever-shrinking workforce of young people, which leaves them even less likely to have kids.
On a deeper level, young members of a graying society lose hope for the future, or stop planning for it altogether. In Japan, this hopelessness manifests as one of the highest rates of suicide among youth in the developed world.
To be clear, the United States is not Japan, but as Jonathan Last writes in his book, "What to Expect When No One's Expecting," there's no example in history of a shrinking society experiencing long-term prosperity.

Is this way of thinking biblical? No, it is not. This represents a myopic way of viewing both the commands and teachings of Jesus, who highlighted "eternal life" as the result of belief in Him and commanded His followers to watch for His return. 
Let's explore these things in more detail.
JESUS EMPHASIZED ETERNAL LIFE
Jesus emphasized eternity throughout His earthly ministry. The Gospel of John records at least a dozen instances where Jesus promised "eternal life" to those who believe in Him.
We are all familiar with John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." The foundation of the Gospel is the promise of eternal life versus the fate of everlasting punishment in hell.
Jesus did not die on the cross just so we would have a terrific Christian life in this uncertain world filled with sorrow and heartache; He sacrificed His life so we could receive eternal life with physical and imperishable bodies, reign with Him in a spectacular kingdom, and spend a glorious eternity with Him.

That illusion was on clear display last week when freshman New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey released what they call the "Green New Deal."

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has managed to hold on to power for over 14 years, and has shown no intention of resigning, or appointing a successor.  
Under his term, Hamas rebelled against the PA's rule and launched a breakaway province in the Gaza Strip, representing a historic split among Palestinians. One half of Palestinians is governed by the PA in the West Bank, and the second half is under the rule of Hamas in Gaza.
The struggle for power that is likely to develop after Abbas leaves his position could, with a fair amount of ease, result in violence between Palestinian rivals, and in attacks on Israelis.
Senior former Israeli security officials have told JNS about the range of scenarios that could play out on the day after Abbas, 83, no longer heads the P.A., Fatah and the PLO in the West Bank.
"The struggle for succession has begun," said Lt. Col. (res.) Alon Eviatar, an expert on the Palestinian arena and a former adviser to Israel's Coordination Unit for Government Activities in the Territories. "It is going on behind the scenes. It is not on overt display because Abbas is still alive. But it is taking place between the candidates for succession and the Palestinian streams."

Pope Francis Leading His Flock To The Slaughter?

The two foremost representatives of Catholic Christianity and Islam, Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb -- the Grand Imam of Al Azhar who was once named the "most influential Muslim in the world" -- just signed "A Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together." 
The Document "forcefully rejects," to quote Vatican News, "any justification of violence undertaken in the name of God," and affirms "respect for believers of different faiths, the condemnation of all discrimination, the need to protect all places of worship, and the right to religious liberty, as well as the recognition of the rights of women."
The Document is being portrayed as a "historic pledge of fraternity" and applauded as a "historical breakthrough." 
The problem is that one of the two men who signed it, Dr. al-Tayeb, has repeatedly contradicted -- when speaking in Arabic and appearing on Arabic media -- all the lofty sentiments it highlights.
The Document, for example, asserts that,
"Freedom is a right of every person: each individual enjoys the freedom of belief, thought, expression and action... the fact that people are forced to adhere to a certain religion or culture must be rejected, as too the imposition of a cultural way of life that others do not accept."
Al-Tayeb, however, is on record saying that apostates -- that is, anyone born to a Muslim father who wishes to leave Islam -- should be punished. As to the penalty they deserve, in July 2016, during one of his televised programs, al-Tayeb reaffirmed that "Those learned in Islamic law [al-fuqaha] and the imams of the four schools of jurisprudence consider apostasy a crime and agree that the apostate must either renounce his apostasy or else be killed." To underscore the point, he cited a hadith, or tradition, of Islam's prophet, Muhammad, saying, "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him." (Sahih Al-Bukhari vol. 9 no.57)

In a very candid interview for Vogue, Justin Bieber explained that he abstained from sex for one year, wanting to get closer to God. He also said that he and his new wife Hailey Baldwin saved sex for marriage, which is one reason they got married so quickly.
Not surprisingly, his interview has generated a torrent of comments, both positive and negative, including an article critical of Bieber's call to abstinence.
But why get mad at him for encouraging self-control? Why criticize a positive example? Or is his example really positive?
How About We Encourage?
On the conservative Christian side, it's easy to throw stones. "Justin and Hailey are hardly models of Christian purity! And were they so lacking in self-control that they rushed into marriage?"
I totally understand those concerns and I don't dispute them. But rather than condemn, how about we encourage?
First, let's put things in context. A young pop icon like Justin Bieber has more beautiful women throwing themselves at him every day than most of us males will meet in a lifetime (or 100 lifetimes), let alone have these women offer themselves to us.

40 Years Of Lessons From Iran: We Have Learned Nothing

On February 10, the Iranian regime officially celebrated the 40th anniversary of the day it seized power. The fundamentalist and Islamist party of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini surprised the international community and the Iranian people when in 1979, it hijacked a revolution. The successful power-grab sent waves through global politics.
Although some people were aware of the intentions of the Islamist party, many underestimated the extent of its organizational skills and power. To harness both the trust and the loyalty of the people, Ayatollah Khomeini and his followers initially portrayed themselves as spiritual people who had no desire to rule the country. 
Many, including several political parties, also believed that, during a transitional period, the ruling mullahs would relinquish any power gained.
As the mullahs began to generate support, they sought to gain even more by reaching out to other social groups. Khomeini's radical followers assured people of different faiths, such as Christians and Jews, that their safety and concerns would be a high priority once the new government was put into place. 
These often-neglected groups responded positively to those promises. When a delegation from the Jewish community visited the founder of the theocratic establishment before the revolution, Khomeini, assuring their safety, famously issued a fatwa stating:
"In the holy Qu'ran, Moses, salutations upon him and all his kin, has been mentioned more than any other prophet. Prophet Moses was a mere shepherd when he stood up to the might of pharaoh and destroyed him. Moses, the Speaker-to-Allah, represented pharaoh's slaves, the downtrodden, the mostazafeen of his time. Moses would have nothing to do with these pharaoh-like Zionists who run Israel. And our Jews, the descendants of Moses, have nothing to do with them either. We recognize our Jews as separate from those godless, bloodsucking Zionists."
The Ayatollah also told other religious minority groups that they would receive protection:
"In Islam, Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians are all accepted as equal -- unless they become a Fifth Column for foreign meddling in this country. Jews are accepted as Jews but not as defenders of Zionist aggression."
It therefore came as a shock to those who had put their faith in Khomeini's radical party, that soon after its rise to power, these guaranteed protections quickly changed. The Ayatollah began pursuing an Islamist agenda; Sharia law was imposed word for word. "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" became statements chanted through the most influential offices as well as the streets. 
Whoever stood up against these harsh and vague laws often faced the ultimate consequences: swift and unquestionable executions. The head of the Jewish community, Habib Elghanian, a businessman and philanthropist, was executed immediately.

Fourteen years ago, Hillary Clinton attempted to stake out the middle ground for one of our nation's most contentious issues. Abortion, the New York senator said in a speech to abortion-rights supporters in Albany, "represents a sad, even tragic choice to many, many women."
It is doubtful that the "pro-choice" Mrs. Clinton could give such a speech today--at least to her fellow Democrats--without sparking an insurrection. In that historical nanosecond, the party of Jackson has gone from holding that abortion should be "safe, legal, and rare" (the widely praised formulation of President Bill Clinton) to asserting that it is an essential part of women's "reproductive healthcare" that cannot be limited for any reason--even if it means killing full-term infants still in (or just out of) their mothers' wombs.

The disturbing trend that US public schools are fast becoming a new ground for anti-Israel activism should concern every American -- not just the Jewish community.
Non-profit watchdog groups and scholars that track antisemitism have sounded a warning that anti-Israel bias has crept into middle school and high school classrooms around the country.
Jewish organizations have for years tracked anti-Israel activism on university campuses, but now this type of material is reaching our public schools.
The Boston suburb of Newton, which is predominantly Jewish, has been ground zero for anti-Israel bias in public schools for several years. But Newton is not the only place this is going on.
I recently discovered that the Charleston, South Carolina area high school where my son is a student is teaching the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from material produced by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), the anti-Zionist group that promotes the elimination of the Jewish state of Israel. They are major proponents of the BDS movement. There is a body of evidence linking BDS organizations to international terror groups, according to a recent Israeli government report.
The material shown to ninth-graders in the Charleston County School District includes a JVP animated video, an oversimplified depiction of the Israel-Palestinian conflict that's both historically inaccurate and offensive. The video portrays Israel as the oppressor and Palestinians as victims. 
It depicts former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat without mentioning that the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) is a terrorist group. At the end of the video, students are urged to boycott the State of Israel.
Going further, students are given a written quiz where the material from the video is re-emphasized. Some of the questions include, "Where do Palestinians live? Answer: In refugee camps. What was Israel founded as? Answer: A Jewish state. What was practiced against non-Jews? Answer: Discrimination. What are Israelis doing to Palestine to gain more land? Answer: They're taking over, destroying, arresting."

Lebanon has begun a dangerous flirtation with Iran. The question is: Where will it end?
Today marks a historic visit to Lebanon by the Iranian foreign minister who will magnanimously be offering to the newly-formed Lebanese government advanced air defense systems.
This is a direct challenge to the U.S., which - in an effort to curb Hezbollah's influence in Lebanon -- has been arming and training the Lebanese army to the tune of $1.7 billion since 2007 (including this year's pledge of $100 million).

Push For One World Religion As Pope & Muslim Imam Sign Interfaith Covenant

A historic interfaith covenant was signed in the Middle East on Monday, and the mainstream media in the United States has been almost entirely silent about it.  
Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb is considered to be the most important imam in Sunni Islam, and he arrived at the signing ceremony in Abu Dhabi with Pope Francis "hand-in-hand in a symbol of interfaith brotherhood".  
But this wasn't just a ceremony for Catholics and Muslims.  According to a British news source, the signing of this covenant was done "in front of a global audience of religious leaders from Christianity, Islam, Judaism and other faiths"...
The pope and the grand imam of al-Azhar have signed a historic declaration of fraternity, calling for peace between nations, religions and races, in front of a global audience of religious leaders from Christianity, Islam, Judaism and other faiths.
Pope Francis, the leader of the world's Catholics, and Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the head of Sunni Islam's most prestigious seat of learning, arrived at the ceremony in Abu Dhabi hand-in-hand in a symbol of interfaith brotherhood.
In other words, there was a concerted effort to make sure that all of the religions of the world were represented at this gathering.

According to the official Vatican website, a tremendous amount of preparation went in to the drafting of this document, and it encourages believers from all religions "to shake hands, embrace one another, kiss one another, and even pray" with one another...
The document, signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb, was prepared "with much reflection and prayer", the Pope said. The one great danger at this moment, he continued, is "destruction, war, hatred between us." "If we believers are not able to shake hands, embrace one another, kiss one another, and even pray, our faith will be defeated", he said. 
The Pope explained that the document "is born of faith in God who is the Father of all and the Father of peace; it condemns all destruction, all terrorism, from the first terrorism in history, that of Cain."

Well, it turns out that the British cops are planning to make a habit of this sort of thing. From the Spectator:
Margaret Nelson is a 74-year-old woman who lives in a village in Suffolk. On Monday morning she was woken by a telephone call. It was an officer from Suffolk police. The officer wanted to speak to Mrs Nelson about her Twitter account and her blog.
Mrs Nelson, a former humanist celebrant and one-time local newspaper journalist, enjoys tweeting and writing about a number of issues, including the legal and social distinctions between sex and gender.

NewsGuard & Microsoft Team Up To Censor Independent Media Ahead Of 2020 Election

The service NewsGuard, an establishment attempt to silence alternative media and independent media sites, has teamed up with Microsoft to help its effort to destroy free press. 
NewsGuard is now automatically included in Microsoft's Edge browser on iOS, Android and Microsoft phones. Microsoft's press release regarding the partnership states that NewsGuard "will empower voters by providing them with high-quality information about the integrity and transparency of online news sites."
Just one problem, who is providing transparency about the news rating agency?
When a user decides to search the Web, the extension tells the user whether or not a story is credible or not credible with 5 indicators and an information box judging the website.
- Green icon -- Sites that follow "basic standards of accuracy and accountability" based on nine criteria,which include full disclosure of possible conflicts of interest, financing, and "notable ideological or political positions held by those with significant financial interests in the site."
- Red icon -- Sites that do not fulfill NewsGuard's criteria for credibility and transparency.
- Orange icon -- Satire and humor sites that mimic real news.
- Blue icon -- Sites that primarily host user-generated content.
- Gray icon --Unrated sites.
There is just one problem: the plugin is only blacklisting certain sites and does not actually have fact checkers looking into the story in question. So, in fact, the service is censoring alternative and independent media. But, let's be honest, that's exactly what its founders, creators, funders, and advisors want.
About that transparency ... the list of advisors for NewsGuard includes Tom Ridge, the former secretary of Homeland Security, Richard Stengel, former editor of Time magazine and Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy (Obama administration), (Ret.) General Michael Hayden, former Director of the CIA, former Director of the National Security Agency and former Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence (George W. Bush administration), Don Baer, chairman of Burson, Cohn & Wolfe and former White House Communications Director (Clinton administration).

Officially, the Netherlands is a safer country to live in than the United States. Its gun homicide rate is about 4 percent that of the United States, and its official murder rate is less than one-fourth that of the United States.
The key word in that statement is "official." Because, as a recent report in the Guardian tells us, there's a lot of killing going on in the Netherlands that doesn't involve a gun and isn't classified as murder, although it should be.
An article in the January 18 edition of Britain's Guardian newspaper asked the question "Death on demand: has euthanasia gone too far?"
Now to be clear, the Guardian is the British Left's paper of record. It's a far more liberal publication than any mainstream American newspaper. So for the Guardian to ask whether euthanasia has "gone too far" suggests that things could be a lot worse than the public has been led to believe. And the area of focus for the piece was The Netherlands.

Sunni States Prepare To Challenge Shi'ite Nuclear Option

The danger of a Middle Eastern nuclear arms race in the near future is casting a shadow over the long-term future of a region that already has its fair share of security problems.
While such a race has yet to break out, former Israeli security officials have told JNS that several Sunni states in the region are watching Shi'ite Iran's nuclear project with concern and could in future set up their own nuclear programs to counter the threat of a "Shi'ite bomb."
Recent reports about an alleged new Saudi ballistic-missile base have served as a reminder of a vow by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who warned in 2018 that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, Saudi Arabia would follow suit.
For now, a number of Sunni states are creating civilian nuclear-energy programs. But such programs could in the future act as "shortcuts to military projects," said Shaul Shay, a former deputy head of the National Security Council of Israel.
"Russia is the main supply source for the technology and the building of cores, as part of its economic and strategic interest," he said.
A key to avoiding the outbreak of runaway nuclear proliferation in the Middle East is to stop Iran's atomic ambitions, he argued.
"Israel must activate its influence to curb the Iranian nuclear project, in cooperation with the U.S. and Arab states," Shay stated. "There also needs to be tight supervision of the civilian projects in Arab states," he added.

For those who question whether abortion is really "baby killing," the governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, has left us no doubt. Not only does he advocate the possible killing of a newborn baby, he wants us to be "civil" when discussing it.
This is reminiscent of Nazi leaders discussing the slaughter of Jewish children, women, and men in icy, dispassionate terms the way an accountant would discuss balancing the books. Such is the face of evil.

Readers have undoubtedly heard by now about an incident two weeks ago involving a group of kids from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky, Native American activists, and a group of Black Hebrew Israelites (to avoid confusion, Black Hebrew Israelites have nothing to do with Jews, Judaism, or Israel).
A short clip that was initially widely circulated on social media attempted to portray one of the kids, Nick Sandmann, as aggressive and harassing towards one of the Native American activists, Nathan Phillips. When a longer video emerged, however, it showed the Black Hebrew Israelites had harassed the kids for over an hour, at the end of which Phillips approached the kids, beating a drum and singing.
