HERB-OF-THE-WEEK / INFORMATION CONCERNING FOOD POISONING

As always, I continue to pray that God is merciful and gracious to us.

"Though many believe that we are physical beings with a spiritual
component, we are most assuredly spiritual beings with a physical
component. Therefore any hopes of saving the flesh, individually or
collectively, must first begin with an attempt to save the spirit."

With the upcoming holiday season a great deal of food will be
prepared and eaten. Ideally all efforts will be made to ensure that
food is properly prepared to avoid food poisoning. But realistically
it can and does happen…. Particularly with leftovers.

Usually, food poisoning is nothing serious—just the result of eating
food or drinking water that has been contaminated with infectious
bacteria. Within 24 to 48 hours of consuming the culprit, you'll get
a reaction, which may also include sweating, itching or even a slight
fever. Then it's over. But you need to see your doctor if your
condition doesn't improve after 24 to 48 hours or your symptoms also
include a high fever, worsening abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea
or the prolonged inability to hold down fluids.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

We suggest that you drink straight apple cider vinegar the moment you
feel you might have food poisoning. Better yet, take it before going
to a barbecue, or any event that the food has been sitting around for
a while.

Dosage: 2 TABLESPOONS of pasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar as it is
extremely strong. Grocery stores will carry at least one, if not
more, commercial brands of ACV. Heinz is a good brand, but any will
do. DO NOT DILUTE IT. However, be prepared for your throat and
stomach to burn for a good half-hour after you take
it!

In the case of food poisoning, you want something extremely acidic
like regular store bought organic vinegar. In other cases, for
instance all other herbal, and nutritional reasons use raw,
unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar. But again, we think grocery
brands like Heinz are far more acidic and as such can kill off the
bacteria causing the poisoning more quickly.

CHARCOAL
Activated charcoal is the remedy of choice for Agatha Thrash, M.D., a
medical pathologist and co-founder and co-director of Uchee Pines
Institute, a natural healing center in Seale, Alabama. Activated
charcoal is sold in most health food or herbal shops. As it is
relatively non-toxic, one should continue taking it your symptoms
subside.

CINNAMON?
The bark of the cinnamon tree protects it from deadly infections and
as such may provide some protection from infections to us.

IT is perhaps best known for nothing more exciting than adding the
distinctive flavor to a hot cross bun. But scientists have now
discovered that cinnamon can fight the bacteria that causes a deadly
form of food poisoning. They found that adding the spice to food is
the most effective way - after cooking and pasteurization - of
killing the E.coli bug. The researchers, from Kansas State
University, believe cinnamon may also be able to fight other harmful
bacteria which is present in food, such as salmonella and
campylobacter. E.Coli was responsible for one of the world's worst
outbreaks of food poisoning in Scotland in 1996, when 20 customers
from a butcher's shop in Lanarkshire died after eating meat
contaminated by the bug.

In the United States, however, It Is apple juice that has been linked
to at least one major outbreak of food poisoning, in which a girl
died and 66 other people became ill.

The Kansas research found that just one teaspoon of cinnamon added to
apple juice killed 99.5 per cent of the E.coli bacteria within three
days. The discovery followed a study last year in which the same
researchers added spices to raw minced beef and sausage meat. They
found that garlic and cloves were also powerful in killing E.coli.

BREAD
If you don't have any apple cider vinegar, cinnamon or charcoal try
bread. Bread has a tendency to soak up the poison for quicker
relief." A few slices should do it, but this should not be with
butter or jam or any such toppings as this can actually make you feel
sicker.

But why take my word for any of this? You can do your own research
at the local library or on any Internet search engine such as
www.google.com or www.mamma.com or www.dogpile. com etc.

Until next time remember, most illness (upwards of 80% according to
experts) can be attributed to FOUR important factors that can weaken
your immune system and your ability to fight off disease. In this
order:

1. INADEQUATE REST - Research continues to prove, that no two ways
about it, good quality sleep has proven to be the singlemost
important factor in determining or influencing your health.

2. INABILITY TO DEAL WITH STRESS - If you run around all day like a
chicken with it's head cut off, it will increase your chances of
getting ill and will aggravate, tremendously, any illness that you
already have, no matter what it is. Anxiety, depression, anger, guilt
or also STRESS factors. LEARN TO FORGIVE AND LET GO.

3. INADEQUATE OR IMPROPER NUTRITIONAL HABITS. There are a lot of
practicing vegetarians lately and some load up on the white sugar,
white flour, starches, processed and refined foods. Many whole
foods/alternative medicine type practitioners believe we should be
eating at least 5 times as many fruits and vegetables as meats. Most
experts agree that most diets are seriously deficient in the amounts
of fruits and vegetables that we should be eating to remain healthy.

4. INADEQUATE EXCERCISE - A sedentary lifestyle that does not include
enough exercise will catch up with you. FIND SOME KIND OF PHYSICALLY
ENGAGING ACTIVITY EVEN IF IT'S ONLY WALKING!
