THOUGHT PROVOKING - INSPIRATIONAL
SECOND FIDDLE
Someone once asked Leonard Bernstein what was the most difficult position in the orchestra for someone to hold. He replied, “That’s easy--it’s second fiddle. No one wants to play second fiddle.” What a comment on humanity in general!

No one wants to play second fiddle. We all have that need to feel important. Some of us have a much stronger desire than others to be the “big shot’, but everyone--at some time or another--has an ego problem.

There is a popular bumper sticker that states, “God is my co-pilot”. Many good Christians feel that this is a statement to the world of their faith. But, think about it: how preposterous! If God is the co-pilot, then we’re the pilot. That’s backwards! God has to be the pilot of our lives. We need to follow His lead, not the other way around.

As in the orchestra, the first fiddle takes the lead, and the second fiddle fills in the harmony—so in life God is the leader and we create the harmony with our words and deeds. As long as each instrument in the orchestra plays its proper part, under the leadership of the conductor, the music is harmonious and gentle on the ears.

How beautiful and harmonious this world could be if everyone played his/her part, under God’s leadership. We each have a specific part to play in God’s plan--and for most of us, it will be “second fiddle”--but not second in importance. Just as each instrument in the orchestra is necessary for the sound of the whole, so each of us is an integral and important part of God’s plan.

Let’s pray that we can find our part and play it for His glory!
