Welcome To The Land Of Song And Revivals
WALES
Praise God for
The last major revival in the UK, happened in Wales in 1904-5 led by Ewan Roberts and started by ten women praying.
The effects of this revival went around the world.
Many evangelical churches still exist and preach the gospel.
Please pray for
A revival to sweep through Wales on the same scale as the above mentioned revival, for my Chinese brethren, many British believers were called to the mission field, esp. China through that revival.
Many of the churches that sprung up during that time are now dead or dying.
Please pray that the Lord would stir the believers, too many of them are focusing on former glories.
South Wales was very dependent on coal mining, and steel, but most mines have closed and many places are economic and indeed spiritual wastelands. Please pray that every community, has a church within it, that preaches the gospel and it is the centre point of that community.
Central Wales and the beautiful coastline are largely rural and farming communities and indeed many town and villages need a move of God.. please pray.
North Wales, which contains the Isle of Anglesey, is a bit like England. Again it needs a move of God.
22% of the people still speak the Welsh language, please pray that workers would be raised up who can communicate the truths of the gospel in this language.
Cardiff and Swansea are the Major cities.. other towns such as Neath, Llanelli
Tenby and Llangollen need to be touched by God's spirit.
When Wales Prays
God listens
When Wales sings
The Whole World listens
Amen.
Have you heard a welsh male voice choir!

WELSH
Population 1.5 million
Evangelical 8%
Please pray for this land, it is called the LAND OF REVIVAL, but the last one happened in the early 1900's led by Evan Roberts. It started when ten ladies gathered for prayer and it's effects were still being felt 50 years later
Many thousands were saved during this time, but this is a distant memory. Many of the churches formed in that time are either dead or dying.  Please pray for an infusion of God's power into the church, especially into the cities of Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham.

Please pray for the valleys of Wales, these areas were famous for coal and steel, but now those jobs have gone, and these communities are struggling. Young people leave for work and many churches are closing. Cults and Many other religions are active. Please pray that the sound of the gospel would be heard through these valleys, the welsh love to sing and are the best singers in the world.

Please pray for a revival in the rural areas, again many churches have closed.

Please pray for many of the native welsh speakers to come to Faith.

Please pray for the work of Scripture union in schools and many agencies in the Universities and Colleges.

Beach missions will take place in several locations, please pray for much fruit.

The Red Dragon of Wales
by Ben Johnson
Although an integral part of the United Kingdom, Wales is not represented on the national flag, or Union Flag, more popularly known as the Union Jack.

The proud and ancient battle standard of the Welsh is The Red Dragon (Y Ddraig Goch) and consists of a red dragon, passant (standing with one foot raised), on a green and white background. As with any ancient symbol, the appearance of the dragon has been adapted and changed over the years, and hence several different variations exist.

The current flag was officially adopted in 1959, and is based on an old royal badge used by British kings and queens since Tudor times. The red dragon itself has been associated with Wales for centuries, and as such, the flag is claimed to be the oldest national flag still in use. But why a dragon? The answer to that particular question is lost in history and myth.

Roman Cavalry Draco

One legend recalls Romano-British soldiers carrying the red dragon (Draco) to Rome on their banners in the fourth-century, but it could be even older than that.

It is considered that the Welsh kings of Aberffraw first adopted the dragon in the early fifth century in order to symbolise their power and authority after the Romans withdrew from Britain. Later, around the seventh century, it became known as the Red Dragon of Cadwaladr, king of Gwynedd from 655 to 682.

Geoffrey of Monmouth in his Historia Regum Britanniae, written between 1120 and 1129, links the dragon with the Arthurian legends, including Uther Pendragon the father of Arthur whose name translates as Dragon Head. Geoffrey’s account also tells of the prophecy of Myrddin (or Merlin) of a long fight between a red dragon and a white dragon, symbolising the historical struggle between the Welsh (red dragon) and the English (white dragon).

The oldest recorded use of the dragon to symbolise Wales however, is from the Historia Brittonum, written by the historian Nennius around 820.

The red dragon was even said to have been used as the British standard at the Battle of Crecy in 1346, when the Welsh archers, dressed in their beloved green and white, played such a crucial role in defeating the French.

And although Owain Glyndwr raised the dragon standard in 1400 as a symbol of revolt against the English Crown, the dragon was brought to England by the House of Tudor, the Welsh dynasty that held the English throne from 1485 to 1603. It signified their direct descent from one of the noble families of Wales. The green and white stripes of the flag were additions of Henry VII, the first Tudor king, representing the colours of his standard.

During Henry VIII’sreign the red dragon on a green and white background became a favourite emblem on Royal Navy ships.

The red dragon flag of WalesAs the national flag of Wales, the red dragon appears to have regained popularity in the early part of the twentieth century, when it was used for the 1911 Caernarfon Investiture of Edward, Prince of Wales. It wasn’t until 1959 however, that it became officially recognised as the national flag of the country.

The Red Dragon now flies proudly over public and private buildings throughout Wales, and thousands still cross the border into England every other year, when the two nations meet for their ‘historic struggle’ on the rugby battlefield known as Twickenham. Welshmen, women and children carrying the dragon as a symbol of pride in their history and culture.
