“‘Even if I will have to leave my position, I will not compromise on the salary of a martyr (Shahid) or a prisoner, as I am the president of the entire Palestinian people, including the prisoners, the martyrs, the injured, the expelled, and the uprooted,” PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced last Sunday on the official Fatah Facebook page.

A major bone of contention between the chairman and the White House has been the Americans’ insistence that the Palestinian Authority suspend its monthly payments to security prisoners inside Israeli prisons and to the families of killed terrorists. These payments are anchored in a 2011 Palestinian Authority law, so that stopping them cannot be done by executive order and would require a change in the law – a very tall order for this and any other PA leadership.
According to Palestinian Media Watch, in 2016 the PA paid 26,800 killed terrorists’ families a total $183 million, and 6,500 terrorist prisoners $135 million
The Wattan news agency reported that Fatah’s Central Committee member Dr. Jamal Muhaisen on Sunday emphasized that the payments are not a financial matter, but are connected to “the Palestinian historical narrative, according to which the prisoners and Martyrs represent our Palestinian people’s struggle.”

In the past week, Iran has suffered one of the worst heat waves ever recorded. Though its neighbors are also coping with an unbearable rise in temperatures, only Iran has reached this record-breaking thermal high indicating a possibility that the middle eastern country is being divinely singled out for punishment.

Thursday afternoon, Ahvaz in southwest Iran posted a temperature of 128.7 degrees Fahrenheit (53.72 Celsius), the country’s hottest temperature ever recorded. Other sources claimed the temperature in Ahvaz climbed even higher, hitting 129.2 (54 Celsius) later that day. If that reading is accurate, it could tie the hottest temperature ever measured on Earth in modern times.
According to Jewish tradition, Elohim is the name of God designating His aspect revealed through nature. It is also the name of God describing his aspect of judgement. The Bible frequently describes divine retribution coming through extreme natural conditions. In Deuteronomy, Israel is warned that God’s displeasure at their sins could be expressed in extreme heat waves.
And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron. Deuteronomy 28:23 
In Malachi, heat waves are clearly described as a part of the process of geulah (redemption), a punishment for those who oppose God.
