Pope: Commandment to love one’s neighbor “is not about pre-selecting my neighbor. This isn’t Christian.”
NOV 9, 2018 6:31 PM BY ROBERT SPENCER 66 COMMENTS
Pope Francis appears to be demanding that Christians welcome criminals, invaders, and Sharia supremacists into their nations, or else he will declare them un-Christian. He seems to be completely unconcerned about facts such as the following: all of the jihadis who murdered 130 people in Paris in November 2015 had just entered Europe as refugees. In February 2015, the Islamic State boasted it would soon flood Europe with as many as 500,000 refugees. The Lebanese Education Minister said in September 2015 that there were 20,000 jihadis among the refugees in camps in his country. On May 10, 2016, Patrick Calvar, the head of France’s DGSI internal intelligence agency, said that the Islamic State was using migrant routes through the Balkans to get jihadis into Europe.

And in the U.S., Somali Muslim migrant Mohammad Barry in February 2016 stabbed multiple patrons at a restaurant owned by an Israeli Arab Christian; Ahmad Khan Rahami, an Afghan Muslim migrant, in September 2016 set off bombs in New York City and New Jersey; Arcan Cetin, a Turkish Muslim migrant, in September 2016 murdered five people in a mall in Burlington, Washington; Dahir Adan, another Somali Muslim migrant, in October 2016 stabbed mall shoppers in St. Cloud while screaming “Allahu akbar”; and Abdul Razak Artan, yet another Somali Muslim migrant, in November 2016 injured nine people with car and knife attacks at Ohio State University. 72 jihad terrorists have come to the U.S. from the countries listed in Trump’s initial immigration ban.

Pope Francis has never expressed any concern about any of this. Of course, he has claimed risibly that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.” This has become a superdogma in the Catholic Church: if you don’t believe that Islam is a Religion of Peace, you will be ruthlessly harassed and silenced by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and the hierarchy elsewhere as well. The bishops of the Catholic Church are much more concerned that you believe that Islam is a religion of peace than that you believe in, say, the Nicene Creed. And so what possible reason could there be to be concerned about these “refugees”? It’s a religion of peace!

The U.S. Catholic bishops, of course, have 91 million reasons — indeed, 534 million reasons — to turn against the truth and disregard the safety and security of the American people: “In the Fiscal Year 2016, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) received more than $91 million in government funding for refugee resettlement. Over the past nine years, the USCCB has received a total of $534,788,660 in taxpayer dollars for refugee resettlement programs.”

“Leave them; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14)

It was not always thus. For centuries, in fact, as I detail in my book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS, the Catholic Church was at the forefront of efforts to resist jihad aggression in Europe. In it, you’ll discover:

The Pope who was a true precursor of Pope Francis: he was harshly criticized by the Romans for failing to keep them safe from jihad attacks;
The Pope who answered a Byzantine Emperor’s call for help against the jihadis not by scolding him about how Islam was peaceful, but by calling on the rulers of Europe to send troops;
The Medieval Pope who called Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, a “son of perdition,” and called for Christians to unite against the advancing jihad;
What happened when a Mongol ruler sent an emissary across Central Asia and into Europe to meet the Pope and seek an alliance with the Christians against the forces of jihad;
The Pope who haughtily refused to come to the aid of the Christian Byzantine Empire when it was mortally threatened by jihadis, because of doctrinal differences;
The Pope who took a solemn oath at his consecration to “extirpate the diabolical sect of the reprobate and faithless Mahomet”;
The Pope who touched off worldwide Muslim riots by noting that “God is not pleased by blood”;
Much more.

Cardinal Wuerl resigns, will face no penalties
October 13, 2018 by Jerry McCormick

The liberal leadership in the Catholic Church has again disappointed those who hoped for justice.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl, who is believed to have played a significant role in the cover-up of child molestation within the church, has resigned, but faces no penalties or punishment.

Outrage
Wuerl was most recently serving as the Archbishop of Washington.

However, it was his time in Pittsburgh that has created the uproar.

From 1988 to 2006, Wuerl was serving as the Bishop in Pittsburgh.

During that time, significant allegations of child molestation by priests surfaced, but Wuerl allegedly did everything in his power to coverup the charges, simply reassigning priests so they would not face repercussions.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro was absolutely livid that the Church is allowing Wuerl to walk away with no consequences.

Shapiro is one of the many voices now demanding action be taken against the Catholic Church because it refuses to fully address these problems.

Becky Ianni, who is part of an abuse survivor network, was also disappointed in the Pope for a lack of action.

Ianni called for the Pope to “fire and publicly admonish any bishop that has enabled perpetrators by concealing their crimes from law enforcement and the public.”

Denial
While there was initially hope Pope Francis would make things right, he has seemingly gone in a completely different direction.

In one of his recent sermons, the Pope likened the individuals making allegations to the Devil.

A week after his initial sermon, the Pope doubled down on his sentiments, causing outrage even among the most devout followers of the Catholic Church.

Do You Think Wuerl Should Be Held Responsible?
Yes
No
While Wuerl is not so much as getting a slap on the wrist for his part in the cover-up, there is some solace in the fact he will no longer be in leadership.

At the very least, his departure will help Catholics turn the page on this dark chapter. Hopefully, he will be replaced with someone who is ready and willing to admit the Church’s responsibility, take concrete preventative action and help the survivors truly heal.

Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of D.C. Cardinal Donald Wuerl

ROME — Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Washington, DC, Cardinal Donald Wuerl on Friday but asked him to stay on as “Apostolic Administrator” of the archdiocese until a permanent successor is appointed.
In his October 12 letter, Pope Francis thanked the cardinal for his service and praised the way he has dealt with accusations of having mishandled the sex abuse crisis.

As required by Church law, Cardinal Wuerl had submitted his resignation to the pope on November 12, 2015, when he turned 75 years old, but the pope asked him to stay put.

Last month, Wuerl announced his upcoming retirement, saying he intended to travel to Rome to discuss with Pope Francis his departure from the Washington Archdiocese.

“I intend, in the very near future, to go to Rome to meet with our Holy Father about the resignation I presented nearly three years ago,” Wuerl explained in a letter to the priests of the archdiocese.

The cardinal said that the decision to remove himself from his leadership role came as fruit of discernment regarding “the best course of action for me to pursue as we face new revelations of the extent of the horror of the clergy abuse of children and the failures in episcopal oversight.”

Wuerl had been implicated in a recent Pennsylvania grand jury report on clergy sexual abuse, which claimed that he had approved transfers for abusing priests instead of removing them from ministry. It also alleged that he concealed information from law enforcement when priests were reported and oversaw insufficient church investigations into abuse.

By late August, nearly 80,000 people had signed a Change.org petition urging Pope Francis to remove Cardinal Wuerl from his post as archbishop of Washington, DC.

The petition said that Wuerl should be removed from his position for allegedly covering up the sexual abuse of minors and paying off clergy to lie about their stories while serving as bishop of Pittsburgh.

“Cardinal Wuerl did not act with moral courage to remove predator priests from public ministry. Decades later, his failure to lead has scandalized the Church,” the petition said.

The Pope noted in his letter Friday that he had received a September 21 request from Cardinal Wuerl that his resignation be accepted and lauded the prelate for having sought the good of the Church.

“This request rests on two pillars that have marked and continue to mark your ministry: to seek in all things the greater glory of God and to procure the good of the people entrusted to your care,” Francis wrote.

In his letter, the pope also defended the cardinal against accusations of cover-up of sexual abuse, saying there is a difference between covering up and making “mistakes.”

“You have sufficient elements to ‘justify’ your actions and distinguish between what it means to cover up crimes or not to deal with problems, and to commit some mistakes,” he said. “However, your nobility has led you not to choose this way of defense. Of this, I am proud and thank you.”

“Your renunciation is a sign of your availability and docility to the Spirit who continues to act in his Church,” he added.

Cardinal Wuerl responded to the pope’s letter Friday with his own statement, in which he said that that “the Holy Father’s decision to provide new leadership to the Archdiocese can allow all of the faithful, clergy, religious and lay, to focus on healing and the future. It permits this local Church to move forward.”

“Once again for any past errors in judgment I apologize and ask for pardon,” he said. “My resignation is one way to express my great and abiding love for you the people of the Church of Washington.”RE https://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2018/10/12/freed-pastor-andrew-brunson-this-is-the-day-our-family-has-been-praying-for/?

Pope Francis Blames the Devil For Sex Abuse Scandal
Oct 08, 2018 08:59 pm
Pope Francis Blames the Devil For Sex Abuse Scandal
(Charisma News) The devil is alive and well and working overtime to undermine the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis says. In fact, the pope is so convinced that Satan is to blame for the sexual abuse crisis and deep divisions racking the Church that he has asked Catholics around the world to recite a special prayer every day in October to try to beat him back. “(The Church must be)

saved from the attacks of the malign one, the great accuser and at the same time be made ever more aware of its guilt, its mistakes, and abuses committed in the present and the past,” Francis said in a message on Sept. 29. Since he was elected in 2013, Francis has made clear that he believes the devil to be real. In a document in April on holiness in the modern world, Francis mentioned the devil more than a dozen times.

Pope Francis says alleged predator priests are like Jesus on ‘Good Friday’

Pope Francis continues to anger people with his comments.
After likening Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano to the Devil, he is now likening accused priests to Jesus Christ.
Off the Deep End
Pope Francis appears to many to be a man coming unhinged.

It all started when the Pope gave a homily calling a whistleblowing Archbishop “The Great Accuser.”

Now, he is telling priests accused of sexual assault to remain silent in his homily, like Jesus did while making his walk on Good Friday.

“He [Jesus] remained silent because he had compassion for those people deceived by the powerful,” the pope said.

By those words, it would appear he is not only likening pedophile priests to Jesus, but he is also more or less calling the accusers liars.

This is a stance that is not sitting well with Catholics and other high-ranking church officials.

Recognize the Problem
For more than a decade, parishioners around the world have been begging church officials to stop the cover-up.

A new generation of priests and bishops have finally taken charge and want to purge the church of these individuals, so it can once again move forward.

Initially, Pope Francis seemed to reluctantly be on the same page, but accusations against him have changed everything.

After the scathing testimony of Archbishop Vigano was released, more questions were raised about the pope’s involvement in covering up these scandals.

Since that testimony was revealed, Pope Francis has gone on the offensive.

Most recently, though, the pope has completely closed up about everything, angering followers even more.

Should Pope Francis Be Forced to Step Down?
Yes
No
Other than his homilies, he has dodged the media and when questioned, given the infamous, “No comment.”
The time has come for this pope to be removed, as he clearly is not worthy of the adulation heaped upon him by the Catholic Church.

Pope’s Adviser: Responding to Accusers ‘Feeds Their Megalomania’

According to one of Pope Francis’ closest advisers, the pontiff has not answered allegations by a former Vatican ambassador that he seriously mishandled the case of serial abuser Theodore McCarrick to avoid feeding his accuser’s “megalomania.”
Víctor Manuel Fernández, archbishop of La Plata, Argentina, and a close personal friend of the pope, said in an interview Monday that the pontiff’s strategy of silence regarding allegations against him stems from his policy of not feeding people’s craving for attention.

Pope Francis “always said that it is not advisable to defend himself from people who seek the limelight, because it would give them what they seek and feed their megalomania,” Fernandez said. “I guess that criterion applies in this case.”
On August 25, the former papal nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, published an 11-page “testimony” in which he claimed that Pope Francis had reinstating Cardinal Theodore McCarrick to a position of prominence despite direct knowledge of McCarrick’s serial homosexual abuse against seminarians and priests.
The archbishop alleged that Pope Benedict XVI had imposed sanctions on Cardinal McCarrick in 2009-2010 forbidding him from traveling, celebrating Mass in public, or participating in public meetings, but that Pope Francis later lifted these sanctions and made McCarrick a close personal advisor with a hand in the naming of future American bishops.
Archbishop Fernandez, believed to be the ghostwriter of the pope’s most controversial publication, the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia, said Monday that Archbishop Viganò is psychologically unwell and should not be listened to.

Fernandez also criticized the growing number of American bishops who have stated that Viganò’s allegations should be treated as credible and thoroughly investigated.
“It is remarkable that there are bishops who do not try to keep their distance from someone who is out of his mind,” Fernandez said. “You can see that there are ideological obsessions more powerful than sanity.”

The president of the U.S. Bishops Conference (USCCB), Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, is one of those who called for an investigation and traveled to Rome to request the Pope Francis initiate an inquiry into the allegations. After meeting with the pope, DiNardo returned to the U.S. chastened and empty handed.

Before traveling to Rome, Cardinal DiNardo declared in a statement that Archbishop Viganó’s bombshell report “brings particular focus and urgency” to the examination by the USCCB of the grave moral failings of bishops.
The questions raised “deserve answers that are conclusive and based on evidence. Without those answers, innocent men may be tainted by false accusations and the guilty may be left to repeat the sins of the past,” DiNardo said.

Pope Francis has adopted a strategy of silence in the face of the accusations against him, urging journalists to do their job and investigate the story but refusing to answer their questions.
For his part, Archbishop Fernandez has blamed conservative media for giving space to Viganò’s allegations, when they should have simply ignored them.

Shortly after the publication of the allegations, a journalist asked Pope Francis when he had learned about the sexual abuse perpetrated by Cardinal McCarrick. While acknowledging having read the report, the pope refused to answer the direct question and instead told the journalists present to investigate on their own.
A number of U.S. bishops have since stepped forward to express their conviction that the pope’s dodging of legitimate questions does not bring the Church closer to transparency and accountability.

Pope Francis has indirectly responded to the accusations by suggesting that Archbishop Viganò is behaving like Satan by revealing the sins of the bishops.

Satan, the “Great Accuser,” has been unleashed against the bishops of the Church, Pope Francis said in a homily last week, in a thinly veiled reference to the former papal nuncio.
The Great Accuser “roams around the earth looking for someone to accuse,” Francis said, adding that in these times “it seems that the Great Accuser has been unleashed and has it in for the bishops.”
“It is true, we are all sinners, we bishops,” he said, but the Great Accuser “seeks to unveil sins so that they may be seen, to scandalize the people.”

Pope Francis commissioned a four-book study in 2010 as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires attacking sexual abuse victims and defending a priest convicted of molesting a teenage boy.
Francis, who was then known as Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, asked a lawyer and jurist by the name of Marcelo Sancinetti to carry out a more than 2,600-page study encompassing four volumes for the Argentinian Episcopal Conference to discredit the alleged victims of Father Julio César Grassi.
The volumes described the victims as “false accusers” and claimed their accusations were just ways of projecting their own sexual desires on Grassi, who was convicted of sexually abusing a boy at his Happy Children Foundation — an organization dedicated to rescuing homeless children — and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Grassi was a national celebrity who established relationships with wealthy and powerful figures in Argentine society, while his victims were poor, teenage residents of his homeless shelters under the Happy Children Foundation (Fundación Felices los Niños) — which generated millions of dollars in donations each year.
Juan Pablo Gallego, who represented Grassi’s teen victims, told the local Spanish-language media outlet Infobae that as archbishop and head of the Argentinian Episcopal Conference, Francis commissioned the series titled “Studies on the Grassi Case” to reportedly influence judges on Argentina’s Supreme Court to maintain Grassi’s innocence

Pope Francis compares Vatican whistleblower to Satan
September 13, 2018 by Jerry McCormick
Pope Francis compares Vatican whistleblower to Satan
https://www.patriotnewsalerts.com/pope-francis-compares-whistleblower/?
Pope Francis turned even more people against the Catholic Church this week with a statement many simply do not understand.

After Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano’s 11-page testimony was published, the Pope likened him to “the Great Accuser,” more commonly known as the Devil.

Keeping Quiet
The Pope has recently come under fire for remaining rather quiet while a slew of allegations was levied against the church.
While he has had no problem ripping President Trump over his immigration stance, the Pope sits on his hands as hundreds of sexual misconduct accusations are levied at the church.

Thus far, the only comment anyone has heard from him has been via a letter earlier in the month.

Accuse Me?!
The latest allegations are different, though, as they directly implicate Pope Francis.

The archbishop testified he informed the Pope about indiscretions and the information was merely brushed aside.

In his letter, Pope Francis made it seem as though the information was incomplete and given in passing.

That is not the story the archbishop told while testifying, though.

He describes a concentrated effort to hide and or ignore accusations to protect the Church.

Now, with his name involved, the Pope openly spoke out about the allegations.

During a recent homily, Pope Francis stated: “In these times, it seems like the Great Accuser has been unchained and is attacking bishops.”

“True, we are all sinners, we bishops. He tries to uncover the sins, so they are visible in order to scandalize people,” Pope Francis added.

This is not an effort to scandalize people, but rather, bring them to justice.

The Catholic Church has always existed in a type of bubble.

Dozens, if not hundreds of priests have been protected and whisked away to another assignment when sexual assault allegations were levied.

Somehow, this has always been accepted, as we never see these perverts brought to justice.

Thousands upon thousands of lives have been ruined, yet still, nothing happens.

Do You Believe the Pope Helped Cover Up Sexual Misconduct by Priests?
Yes
No
Finally, there is a group of clergy willing to do the right thing to purge the Church of these deviants — and the Pope likens them to the Devil himself!

Archbishop Vigano’s heroic behavior must not be silenced, and this so-called Pope must be brought to justice.

D.C. Cardinal Wuerl Announces Resignation Amidst Cover-Up Allegations

Washington’s Cardinal Donald Wuerl announced his upcoming resignation Tuesday, saying he intends to travel to Rome to discuss with Pope Francis his departure from the archdiocese he currently leads.
“I intend, in the very near future, to go to Rome to meet with out Holy Father about the resignation I presented nearly three years ago,” Wuerl explained in a letter to the priests of the archdiocese.
The cardinal said that the decision to remove himself from his leadership role came as fruit of discernment regarding “the best course of action for me to pursue as we face new revelations of the extent of the horror of the clergy abuse of children and the failures in episcopal oversight.”
Wuerl had been implicated in a recent Pennsylvania grand jury report on clergy sexual abuse, which claimed that the cardinal had approved transfers for abusing priests instead of removing them from ministry. It also alleged that he concealed information when priests were reported to law enforcement and oversaw insufficient church investigations into abuse.

Cardinal Wuerl announces resignation.

In late August, the diocese of Pittsburgh announced that the Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School would strip the cardinal’s name from its title following the report.

A week later, a petition urging Pope Francis to remove Cardinal Donald Wuerl from his position as archbishop of Washington, DC had garnered some 80,000 signatures.

The petition asked the pope to remove Wuerl from his position for allegedly covering up the sexual abuse of minors and paying off clergy to lie about their stories while serving as bishop of Pittsburgh.

“Cardinal Wuerl did not act with moral courage to remove predator priests from public ministry. Decades later, his failure to lead has scandalized the Church,” the petition states.

Wuerl’s name also appeared in a recent bombshell report by the former papal nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, regarding Cardinal Theodore McCarrick—Wuerl’s predecessor in Washington, DC—and his serial homosexual abuse of seminarians and priests.

Viganò said that Cardinal Wuerl was “well aware of the continuous abuses committed by Cardinal McCarrick and the sanctions imposed on him by Pope Benedict” and yet ignored the sanctions and allowed McCarrick “to reside at a seminary in Washington D.C.”

“In doing so, he put other seminarians at risk,” Viganò stated.

In his report, Viganò attributed a number of important papal appointments in the United States—including those of Cardinals Blase Cupich in Chicago and Cardinal Joseph Tobin in Newark—to McCarrick’s influence over Pope Francis.

While rumors of the sexual abuse of minors have long been whispered of within the Catholic Church, the floodgates were recently thrown open by a shocking grand jury report from Pennsylvania, revealing “credible allegations of sexual abuse by over 300 priests, with thousands of victims.”

There is also an ongoing investigation by the New York attorney general’s office into the handling of the scandalous allegations by the church, and that investigation just issued a slew of subpoenas against the eight Roman Catholic dioceses in the state.

The Associated Press reported that NY Attorney General Barbara Underwood demanded documents from all eight dioceses that relate to sexual abuse allegations, possible financial payments to alleged victims and the findings of internal church investigations.

The investigation is said to be largely focused on how church leaders handled the reports of abuse received over the years.

Brooklyn responds
The Brooklyn Diocese released a statement to the AP in response to the subpoenas issued by the NY AG.

“We have been collaborating closely with law enforcement for many years and stand ready to work with her office on this investigation,” read the statement.

“In 2002, the Diocese of Brooklyn handed over all allegations of sexual abuse of a minor by a priest or deacon, to the district attorneys in Brooklyn and Queens. Since that time, we have adopted a zero tolerance policy and have reported any and all allegations of sexual abuse to law enforcement,” the statement added.

None of the seven other dioceses in the state responded to requests for comment from the AP about the subpoenas.

Hotline for victims
The NY AG’s office has opened up a special hotline for victims to call and created an online complaint form that can be submitted by anyone with any sort of information related to the church’s sexual abuse scandal. In New York, that hotline number is 1-800-771-7755, while residents of New Jersey are urged to call 1-855-363-6548 if they have any relevant information to share.

Should Catholic clergy who covered up abuse be removed?
Yes
No
Pope Francis criticized
Pope Francis declared his sympathy for the abuse victims and called for change, admitting in a letter, “We showed no care for the little ones; we abandoned them.” But critics worry he isn’t taking enough concrete action to ensure change and accountability. A long-standing lack of transparency from the Vatican doesn’t help.

While church leaders who may have been involved or helped cover up abuse over the years may be rather concerned by these subpoenas and investigations, it is necessary to root out the evil that has been flourishing in the shadows for far too long.

President Donald Trump did not criticize Pope Francis for his response to the sexual abuse scandals recently uncovered in the Catholic Church.
“To me, it’s a very sad story. The Pope is handling it, I guess, the best anyone can handle it,” Trump said in an interview with the Daily Caller. “How is he going to handle it?”

Trump said he was “sad” about the scandal which has stretched back about 70 years.

“I think it’s having a really negative impact on the Catholic Church,” he said. “I think it’s very sad, to me it’s one of the sadder stories ’cause I respect so much the Catholic Church.”

He also expressed surprise about the accusations of abuse against Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who resigned after allegations of sexual abuse of boys was made public.

“I’m surprised at McCarrick,” he said. “Everyone knew him and so incredible to see these things. It’s devastating for the Catholic Church.”

Newly discovered letter catches Pope Francis in alleged lie about abused children

Pope Francis, the darling of progressives, has said repeatedly that he supports a “zero-tolerance” policy when it comes to sex abuse within the church. But new evidence says otherwise.

The Associated Press obtained a 2015 letter from a victim who detailed to the pope how he was abused — and Pope Francis not only ignored the letter but told an AP reporter that no victims had come forward to him.

A Shameful Culture
Last month, Pope Francis visited the Catholic stronghold of South America — a visit that was disturbed by protests over the pope’s defense of Bishop Juan Barros, who victims in Chile say witnessed massive sexual abuse of young boys by a priest named Fernando Karadima but did nothing to stop it.

Calling the coverup accusations “slander,” Pope Francis seemed to dismiss the stories of multiple victims.

Later, an AP reporter “confronted” the pope as they flew home. The pope shrugged off any idea that a cover-up was occurring. Francis said:

You, in all good will, tell me that there are victims, but I haven’t seen any, because they haven’t come forward.

The Commission for the Protection of Minors says that Pope Francis isn’t being truthful. Members of the commission — a special group that answers directly to the pope himself — say they sent a delegation to Rome to hand-deliver a letter to Francis.

The Letter
Penned by a victim named Juan Carlos Cruz, the letter not only graphically describes the abuse Cruz says he and others suffered at the hands of Karadima but also names Barros and others as having witnessed or even participated in the abuse. In the eight-page letter, Cruz wrote:

Holy Father, I write you this letter because I’m tired of fighting, of crying and suffering. Our story is well known and there’s no need to repeat it, except to tell you of the horror of having lived this abuse and how I wanted to kill myself.

According to Cruz, the entire circle of priests around Karadima was “homo-eroticized” to the point that younger priests would “fight to sit next to Karadima at the table to receive his affections.”

Bishop Juan Barros denied all allegations. When asked, Barros told the AP:

I never knew anything about, nor ever imagined, the serious abuses which that priest committed against the victims. I have never approved of nor participated in such serious, dishonest acts, and I have never been convicted by any tribunal of such things.

While the pope might otherwise claim that Cruz’s letter was merely one of the thousands that Francis receives in a year, this one was specifically hand-delivered by four members of the pope’s own commission. The commission flew to Rome for that purpose of delivering the letter to Cardinal Sean O’Malley, who promised to give it to the pope.

Cruz confirmed in an interview that “Cardinal O’Malley called me after the pope’s visit here in Philadelphia and he told me, among other things, that he had given the letter to the pope — in his hands.”

Failure to Respond
Despite having said that he would consider victim’s testimony as “evidence,” Pope Francis has said he was “certain” Barros is innocent, and called the accusations against him “calumny.” The AP reports:

Even when told in his airborne press conference Jan. 21 that Karadima’s victims had indeed placed Barros at the scene of Karadima’s abuse, Francis said: “No one has come forward. They haven’t provided any evidence for a judgment. This is all a bit vague. It’s something that can’t be accepted.”

“If anyone can give me evidence, I’ll be the first to listen.”

For victims like Cruz, these weren’t exactly comforting words. He told the AP, “I was upset, and at the same time I couldn’t believe that someone so high up like the pope himself could lie about this.”

Just days after the Pope’s defense of Barros, the Vatican announced last week that due to “new information,” they would be sending Archbishop Charles Scicluna to Chile to investigate and “listen to those who want to submit information in their possession.”

The whole affair is damaging to Pope Francis’ credibility, who despite his much-touted “zero tolerance” policy for abuse has already come under fire for not handling previous scandals appropriately.

REPORT: Pope Francis Caught in Major Scandal

REPORT: Pope Francis Caught in Major Scandal
Long Thiên / Public Domain
The progressive Pope Francis has found himself battling an ecclesiastical insurgency from within the Church. In response to socially liberal positions held by Pope Francis which defy Catholic doctrine, a group of ranking Church leaders have issued a “filial correction” to the pope for propagating heretical positions on “marriage, the moral life, and the reception of the sacraments.”

The 25-page letter signed by 62 Church officials from 20 countries was sent to Pope Francis on Aug. 11, and after over a month with no response, the signatories decided to release the letter to the public.

The Church has not issued a “Correctio filialis de haeresibus propagatis,” or, “A filial correction concerning the propagation of heresies,” since 1333 when Pope John XXII was admonished for errors that he would come to recant on his deathbed.

Clerical insurrection
The clergy’s dissent originates from the Pope’s April 2016 Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) and “other words, deeds and omissions” made by Francis and his promotion of seven heretical positions about marriage, the moral life, and the reception of the sacraments.

The academics, priests, and theologians who challenged the pontiff stopped short of calling Francis a heretic, instead insisting that the head of the Catholic Church was furthering a “heretical system.”

The signatories wrote:

Catholics need to be warned not only against these seven errors, but also against this heretical system as such, not least by reason of Your Holiness’s praise of the man who originated it.
Schism
The clergymen enumerate the Pope’s offenses in Amoris Laetitia, claiming that “heretical positions are insinuated or encouraged” within the document and that Francis “wishes Catholics to interpret these passages in a way that is, in fact, heretical.”

Specifically, the Pope has claimed that remarried and divorced Catholics may once again receive Communion, contrary to established Church doctrine. Regarding the document’s discussion of homosexuality, Slate contributor William Saletan called Amoris Laetitia “a closeted argument for gay marriage.”

When Amoris Laetitia was first published, four dissenting Cardinals — Carlo Caffarra, Walter Brandmüller, Raymond Burke, and Joachim Meisner — officially demanded an explanation of passages from the document regarding vague passages that permit broad interpretations of family and sin. Just like the recently prescribed filial correction, Pope Francis responded to the Cardinal objections by ignoring them.

The laymen also objected to Pope Francis’s support for Martin Luther, 16th-century German monk whose opposition to Catholic doctrine kicked off the Protestant Reformation.

Progressive Pontiff
Pope Francis has been an active proponent for liberal causes since ascending to the Vatican in 2013. The Supreme Pontiff quickly became the darling of American mainstream media for taking progressive positions against capitalism, President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall and conservative Church doctrine.

Pope Francis has inserted his unsolicited opinion into a variety of subjects outside of his ecumenical expertise, speaking as an advocate for the Arab Muslim migrants flooding European towns and villages and standing up in favor of climate change legislation.

The Pope has consistently equated modernization with American liberalization, openly engaging in a race against time to replace ranking Church officials with liberal-minded clergymen.

However, the latest filial correction from important conservative figures in the Catholic world may be the first vibrations of a growing schism within the Church. The reigning pontiff may see his progressive experiments upend the Papacy, bringing an end to the liberal reformation that Pope Francis so adamantly pursues.
