George Soros personally defends his move to destroy Brexit
International Crisis Group / CCL
George Soros has been the target of the right for years, and for good reason. The Hungarian tycoon has contributed to many campaigns and causes that aim to diminish national sovereignty, amplify globalism, and compromise the will of the people. Case in point, Brexit.

Recent revelations that he contributed large sums of money to pro-European Union campaigns to prevent the United Kingdom from leaving the trade bloc, irked many conservatives, who rightly pointed out that he was undermining the democratic will of the people. Writing in a British newspaper on Sunday, Soros divulged that his feelings were hurt over the “toxic, personal criticism” regarding his anti-Brexit position, and defended his right to help Bremain efforts.

Let me predict that Soros’ hurt feelings won’t carry much weight with conservatives.

George Soros: ‘I Consider Brexit a Tragic Mistake’
In June 2016, 52 percent of British voters cast a ballot to leave the European Union, surprising pundits and markets. Since then, Brexit opponents have been fighting tooth and nail to derail the nation’s efforts to peacefully secede from an organization that many say erodes national independence.

Not surprisingly, Soros was against the idea of Brexit, arguing that it was “a tragic mistake.” He was so opposed to the concept that he donated more than $500,000 to campaigns that fought to stop Britain from making its grand exit from the EU.

When this made global headlines, the backlash was fierce among Brexiteers. The Bremainers, however, were pleased, despite their disdain for white male banker billionaires.

Soros was upset by the response. It prompted the man who “broke the Bank of England” to write a piece in the Mail over the weekend defending his actions.

He opined:

I consider Brexit a tragic mistake. … Brexit is a lose-lose proposition both for Britain and for Europe. Politically, Europe without Britain will be weakened in its ability to defend and promote democratic values.

To make matters worse, the divorce process will preoccupy both Britain and Europe for years ahead, when they should be uniting to resist external enemies like Putin’s Russia and resolve the internal contradictions that made some people regard the EU as their enemy.

Soros also disapproved of the “toxic, personal criticism” leveled against him in recent days.

This month, with the financial assistance of Soros, the Best for Britain campaign will unveil a nationwide advertising campaign to encourage voters to demand a second referendum that could reverse Brexit. Of course, to globalists, when you don’t get the intended result, then you keep voting until you get the desired outcome.

Is George Soros a Man of Evil?
Soros was not an SS officer, nor was he a Nazi collaborator. However, it was documented by CBS’s 60 Minutes that as a 14-year-old boy, Soros helped confiscate property belonging to Hungarian Jews.

Did this ignite the flame of his malevolent nature?

There is a reason why many conservatives and libertarians – and even liberals up until a couple of years ago – have railed against Soros. Not only did he force the British government to remove the pound sterling from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism on Black Wednesday in 1992, he has fueled economic mayhem worldwide.

Soros contributed to the speculation that helped eviscerate the Malaysian ringgit in 1997, while also breaking the Bank of Thailand. He has also been active in domestic politics; reports suggest he has had ties to various U.S. political campaigns as well as ties to the Clinton family.

Despite demanding that the rich pay more taxes, Soros has been active in trying to shield his vast fortune by taking advantage of tax loopholes. There is nothing wrong with exploiting tax loopholes – as Ludwig von Mises wrote, capitalism breathes through loopholes – but if you advocate the affluent give away more of their incomes to governments, then you should follow through on your own advice.
Perhaps Bremainers will shed a tear for Soros. But, for the rest of humanity, Soros may have earned the “toxic, personal criticisms” from people all over the world.

George Soros poured $100,000 into local DA race – with little media attention

George Soros reportedly donated more than $100,000 to a lawyer running for a district attorney position in Virginia – and nobody noticed.

The billionaire progressive donor subtly contributed to the district attorney campaign of Stephanie Morales this fall, the Daily Caller reports. The donation gave Morales a significant advantage in the race but was not reported on until after she won re-election this November.

We can be sure that if it were the Koch brothers making this donation, the mainstream media would have picked up on the story.

Why the double-standard?

Soros tips DA race with $100,000
FEC filings show that a Soros-funded PAC, Justice & Public Safety, spent more than $100,000 on the campaign of Portsmouth, Virginia Commonwealth Attorney Stephanie Morales.

A Soros-funded national political action committee (PAC), Justice & Public Safety, spent more than $100,000 on behalf of Portsmouth, Virginia Commonwealth Attorney Stephanie Morales between Sept. 9 and Nov. 4, the PAC’s FEC filings reveal. Soros’s support for Morales’s campaign has not been previously reported.

Soros’s donation gave Morales a significant edge over her opponent, Portsmouth attorney T.J. Wright. The money in Wright’s campaign war chest amounted to less than half of Soros’s single donation to Morales, a significant difference that doubtless influenced the election’s outcome.

The PAC spent more than $82,000 of the Soros-gifted money on crucial campaign resources, including ads and direct mailers, as the campaign reached a climax.

The Soros money gave Morales a significant advantage compared to her own past electoral performance. She was first elected in 2015 with 48 percent of the vote to fill a vacancy left by the previous officeholder. Then she won re-election, with Soros’s help, again this November with 63 percent of the vote.

Paper filings
Luckily for Soros and Morales, nobody noticed — or at least those who knew, didn’t care to say anything — until after Morales won re-election. Morales decided to file the donations — on paper, instead of digitally — which might have played a role in helping her evade scrutiny:

Soros’s efforts to tilt local contests have often become campaign issues — when they’ve become public. But Soros’s support for Morales never became public during the campaign, possibly because Morales filed her campaign finance reports on paper, rather than online, making it more difficult for reporters to scrutinize the filings.

Reports that are filed online are uploaded into a statewide data base of campaign finance reports, making them easily discoverable. Manually filed reports, on the other hand, require either personally visiting the city registrar or requesting them via mail.

The $100,000 donation adds to the $9 million Soros already spent on DA races from 2015 to 2017, according to the Daily Caller. Soros has routinely poured enormous sums from his large fortune into progressive campaigns and causes.

If any philanthropists or political players on the Right had made a donation like this, the mainstream media would have investigated it the moment the money dropped into the candidate’s coffers. Moreover, it’s concerning that Soros is trying to shape the outcome of elections for prosecutors — it implies that he is also engaged in a strategy that involves undermining the judicial branch.

Stories like this ought to receive greater scrutiny from the media, but the media’s is seemingly uninterested in scandals that reflect poorly on their favorites.

Professor Claims George Soros ‘Missionaries’ Bragged About Toppling Governments
https://www.usapoliticstoday.org/professor-george-soros-toppling-governments/
By Gary Maher - February 10, 2018035
Author and sociologist Frank Furedi claims globalist activists working for billionaire financier George Soros bragged about toppling governments at a private lunch.
A former professor of sociology at the University of Kent in Canterbury, Furedi recounted his experience with the globalist’s “missionaries” in an article for the Telegraph newspaper, having been prompted by the revelations about his efforts to bring down the British government and trigger another EU referendum.

“Soros believes that if the people voted the wrong way, he is entitled to thwart decisions made by them,” Furedi wrote.

“Soros does not believe in the legitimacy of borders nor in the authority of national electorates. Consequently, he feels entitled to influence and if possible direct the political destiny of societies all over the world.”

COLLUSION: Foreign Billionaire George Soros Funding Gina Miller's Anti-Brexit Campaign
George Soros, the billionaire globalist and convicted insider trader, has been unmasked as a major backer behind a campaign to stop Brexit.

Furedi said his own encounter with “the Soros operation” took place in the 87-year-old’s native Hungary in 2013, at an Open Society Youth Exchange exchange event which brought together so-called ‘civil society’ activists from across the globe.

Most of those in attendance were smart, idealistic young people who appeared to be committed to making the world a better place. My only concern with the gathering was it regarded its participants as a group of democratic missionaries, who would go back to homes to spread the good word.

It was later during lunch at a plush Budapest hotel that I encountered the full force of the arrogant ethos promoted by the Soros network of organisation. At my table I listened to Dutch, American, British, Ukrainian and Hungarian representatives of Soros NGOs boast about their achievements. Some claimed that they played a major role in the Arab Spring in Egypt. Others voiced their pride in their contribution to the democratisation of the Ukraine. Some bragged about their influence in preparing the ground for the overthrow of the Gadafif regime in Libya.

I sat quietly and felt uncomfortable with a group of people who so casually assumed that they had the right to play God throughout the world. At one point, the head of the table – a Hungarian leader of a Soros NGO – asked me what I thought about their work. Not wishing to offend, I quietly remarked that I wasn’t sure whether the external imposition of their idea of democracy on the people of Libya was legitimate nor that it would work. Without a second’s hesitation, my interlocutor rounded me with the response: “I don’t think that we have the luxury of waiting until the Libyan people come with their own Jefferson!”

Furedi recalled being alarmed by “the haughty tone with which she lectured me about performing the role” of Thomas Jefferson in countries like Libya, which was transformed into a failed state where jihadists are at large, black Africans are sold openly in slave markets, and criminal people-smugglers coin a handsome profit ferrying illegal migrants to Europe — often with the assistance of NGOs linked to Soros.

Furedi, who like Soros has a Hungarian-Jewish background, also took aim at defenders of Soros by accusing his critics of anti-Semitism.

“I am appalled by baiting critics of Soros as anti-Jewish,” he wrote, saying that the “cause of fighting anti-Semitism is ill-served by such opportunistic use of the term.”

The academic “lost most of his Hungarian-Jewish family in the Holocaust” — while Soros himself survived the calamity by posing as a Hungarian official’s Christian godson, accompanying him on his rounds as he confiscated property from less well-connected Jews.

It has been described as “secret” and “shadowy” but the pro-remain campaign Best for Britain, which received £400,000 from billionaire George Soros, has said it is planning a UK-wide tour and a blaze of publicity.

The group has launched a crowdfunding campaign in the wake of a story in the Telegraph, which attacked the funding it had received from Soros’s Open Society Foundations (OSF).

Best for Britain said it launched its fundraising drive “to stand up for free speech, democracy and the right to fight this disastrous Brexit”.

Soros, a former refugee who became one of the world’s foremost currency speculators, made more than £1bn betting against the pound on Black Wednesday in 1992, which forced the British government to pull sterling out of the European exchange rate mechanism.

Last October, the Hungarian-American gave $18bn (£12.8bn), a vast bulk of his personal wealth, to his OSF. Its stated mission is to financially support civil society groups fighting for democracy, education and against discrimination, but the OSF and Soros have been persistently attacked by autocratic states including Russia and Hungary.

Best for Britain began as a bid to encourage tactical voting ahead of the June 2017 elections, in an attempt to get more pro-remain MPs into the Commons.

The group, which is registered with the Electoral Commission, was founded by Gina Miller, the businesswoman who took the government to the supreme court over Brexit, and who spearheaded Best for Britain’s campaign during the June election. Its chair is Mark Malloch Brown, the former UN deputy secretary general.

Everyone has a right to be heard and if a country cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy
Eloise Todd
Another donor who has given significant sums to the group is Clive Cowdery, the insurance businessman who founded the Resolution Foundation thinktank.

Its activities are now run by the chief executive, Eloise Todd, a former global policy director for the One anti-poverty campaign. “Today’s Telegraph article says that our right to free speech in our democracy only applies to some people,” she said.

“Everyone has a right to be heard and if a country cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy. This attack on free speech is deeply worrying and we’re fighting back. We will continue to take funds from any eligible donor who – like us – doesn’t want to live in a poorer, more isolated, worse-off Britain.”

Best for Britain is not the best known of the groups that campaigned for Britain to remain in the EU, but has taken a different tact: to oppose leaving the EU entirely rather than pushing for a softer Brexit.

Soros’s decision to fund the group, rather than the higher-profile Open Britain, appears to be down to a personal connection with Todd through the international development sector.

The group has taken a two-pronged approach: to train remain supporters around the country to continue campaigning in a bid to change leave voters’ minds; and to lobby MPs to vote against the Brexit deal Theresa May secures in Brussels, in the hope of forcing a second referendum or general election.

Best for Britain raised £413,000 in the run-up to the general election, donating the cash to pro-Europe candidates in marginal seats, including Labour’s Tulip Siddiq, the Lib Dems’ Tom Brake and Ed Davey, and the Greens’ Caroline Lucas.

The group said more than 1 million people had consulted its tactical voting website ahead of 8 June to find pro-remain candidates. It has about 20,000 signed up as members, and 50,000 on its mailing list.

Key supporters include the former Labour minister Andrew Adonis and the former Lib Dem leader Tim Farron, whose ex-press secretary Paul Butters now leads communications for the campaign.

Over the coming months the group is planning a series of training events, rallies and stunts to galvanise remain supporters. Training events have been held in seats that were majority leave, but have remain-supporting MPs, as well as seats with leave-supporting MPs.

The events, called Barnstorms, are geared up to train remain supporters to tackle the concerns of leave voters, by engaging beyond the language of hard economics. So far, events have been held in Doncaster, a majority leave town where local Labour MP Caroline Flint, a remain supporter, has said she feels duty-bound to represent her constituents by voting through Brexit legislation.

“We want to support remain voters in areas like that to help them change opinions,” a group spokesman said.

Other events have been held in Wythenshawe, south Manchester and in Vauxhall, south London, where the Labour MP, Kate Hoey, is a vocal Brexiteer. Future events will include rallies with car manufacturers and trade unions.

Downing Street said it had no qualms about the Soros donations to Best for Britain. “There are many political and campaign groups in this country – that’s entirely right and as you would expect in a democracy,” a spokesman said.

“The prime minister’s position on this matter is clear: the country voted to leave the European Union – that’s what we are going to deliver and there won’t be a second referendum.”

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading the Guardian than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

I appreciate there not being a paywall: it is more democratic for the media to be available for all and not a commodity to be purchased by a few. I’m happy to make a contribution so others with less means still have access to information.

Who is George Soros?

LEFT-WING billionaire George Soros is pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into a campaign looking to sabotage British voters’ 2016 decision to leave the European Union.

The UK Daily Telegraph first reported late on Wednesday that Soros has delivered £400,000 ($A716,000) to the anti-Brexit “Best for Britain” campaign via his Open Society Foundations.

He also hosted big-money donors at his London home as part of the group’s goal to raise support to nix the implementation of the Brexit referendum.

Best for Britain is currently led by Lord Mark Malloch-Brown — a former diplomat and UN deputy secretary-general — and is reportedly planning a massive ad campaign to push for a second referendum to make voters rethink the decision to leave the EU.

“George Soros’ foundations have, along with a number of other major donors, also made significant contributions to our work,” Lord Malloch-Brown told Reuters. He also confirmed that the £400,000 number was accurate.

Open Society Foundations said that the Best for Britain funding was one of a number of Brexit-related grants the organisation had made, including a £182,000 ($A326,000) grant to European Movement UK.

“Human rights protections, hard-won civil and labour rights, safeguards on key issues such as clean air or food standards are at stake here for British citizens,” Patrick Gaspard, president of the Open Society Foundations and former Obama White House political affairs director, said in a statement.

“It is essential that they are informed and empowered to make decisions about the future relationship between the UK and the EU.

“The Open Society Foundations support British groups striving to ensure that this crucial debate is not shut down. A fundamental principle of open societies is that people get to decide how they are governed, knowing exactly what they stand to gain and what they stand to lose.”

Soros has used his financial muscle for years to push left-wing causes across the globe. In Davos, Switzerland, last month, Soros said his Open Society Foundations is funding more institutions in the US to ensure a Democratic victory in November.

Glad we are finally talking about the influence of George Soros. Time to wake up. https://t.co/2yxrJP7Lxd

— Nigel Farage (@Nigel_Farage) February 8, 2018
The Telegraph reports that Best for Britain is planning mass rallies, concerts, “guerrilla marketing tactics” and efforts to pressure MPs into voting against a Brexit deal once negotiations are complete so as to trigger either a second referendum or a general election to oust Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative government in favour of one led by hard-left Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

The revelation will serve to fuel fears from pro-Brexit Britons that there is an international campaign of elites from Brussels to London looking to quash the 2016 result. Nick Timothy, a former May chief of staff, said the news was a “wake-up call” to Brexiteers.

“Elitist Remainers are plotting to bring down the government,” he wrote.

Former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage made a similar call, saying he was glad Britain was finally talking about the influence of Soros, tweeting: “Time to wake up.”

Unease has been growing among the Brexit camp after the euphoria of the summer of 2016 has died down. The government’s negotiations with Brussels have become increasingly rocky, with the EU taking a hard line as negotiations heat up ahead of Britain’s departure from the bloc in 2019.

EU officials have likely been buoyed by increasingly vocal pro-Remain sentiment among Britain’s political and media elites.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has been unapologetic in his calls for Britain to stay in the bloc, has been among the many high-profile voices calling for a potential second referendum, describing it not as an exercise in frustrating the will of the voters, but a chance for voters to “think again” once the terms of the deal are set.

“Once we know the alternative, we should be entitled to think again, either through Parliament or an election or through a fresh referendum, which will, of course, not be a rerun of the first because it will involve this time a choice based on knowledge of the alternative to existing EU membership,” he wrote in a piece for The New Statesman last month.

But while some polls have suggested that Brits may be open to thinking again, others say the opposite. Leaders on both sides of the fight seem to acknowledge that the mood in the UK is that the government should see through the referendum.

“[P]ublic opinion remains consistent,” Timothy said in an analysis for the Telegraph. “There has been no sudden movement against Brexit, despite an ongoing campaign against it and criticism of the government’s negotiating position.”

In a BBC interview last month, the pro-Remain Malloch-Brown said, “I think people are changing their minds”, before conceding that “they haven’t changed it as dramatically as I would like to see”.
