California Democrats are speechless as they watch their prized Sacramento gun control senator, Leland Yee, head to prison for weapons trafficking, accepting bribes, and extorting money.

“The crimes that you committed have resulted in essentially an attack on democratic institutions,” Breyer told Yee, who nodded as the judge addressed him. “This is a serious, serious injury to a governmental institution.”

Breyer called his involvement in that crime “hypocritical” and “unfathomable” given his past advocacy for gun control.

The judge gave him 30 days to surrender to the U.S. Marshal’s Service, which will turn him over to the federal prison system. Yee’s lawyer asked the judge to recommend the sentence be served at the federal prison in Taft in Kern County.

The 67-year-old Yee had risen steadily in the ranks of Bay Area politics since the late 80s. His career began when he was elected to the San Francisco School Board.

Prior to becoming a state senator, Yee was also a California State Assemblyman. Yee was Supervisor of San Francisco’s Sunset District and was a member and President of the San Francisco School Board. In 2004 Yee became the first Asian American to be appointed Speaker pro Tempore. He was the second highest ranking Democrat of the California State Assembly.

Yee was arrested by the FBI on March 26, 2014 on charges related to public corruption and gun trafficking. Specifically buying automatic firearms and shoulder-launched missiles from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. MILF is an Islamist extremist group located in the southern Philippines.

Yee attempted to re-sell those weapons to an undercover FBI agent. He went further to accept a $10,000 bribe from an undercover agent. This in exchange for placing a call to the California Department of Public Health regarding a contract at the organization.

Former California State Senator Leland Yee admitted this week that he accepted bribes and extorted money.
He acknowledged accepting $11,000 in exchange for setting up a meeting with another state senator, $10,000 for recommending someone for a grant, and $6,800 for providing a certificate on California state senate letterhead honoring the Ghee Kung Tong.

Overall, government officials identified more than $100,000 in bribes directed at Yee during the investigation.

He also acknowledged that he discussed helping an undercover FBI agent buy automatic weapons from the Philippines. They were intended to be brought to the US for distribution.

In a lengthy sentencing memo, prosecutors outlined what they saw as a pattern of bad behavior by Lee that went far beyond the charges he pleaded guilty to.

His dishonesty in the early stages of the investigation, they wrote, “demonstrate a venal attitude toward his position as an elected public official and a willingness to abuse his position of trust in any number of ways. They also reveal a disconnect between the face that Yee puts out to the public and his true nature and character. They necessarily cast a shadow over his career as a public servant and legislation he has sponsored.”

Federal prosecutors pushed for an eight-year sentence for Yee in his political corruption case, describing him in court papers as a public servant who “was willing to betray the trust of those who elected him” and “to sell his vote to the highest bidder.”

“Senator Yee abused that trust in the worst possible way,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Badger told the judge Wednesday, urging punishment above federal sentencing guidelines. “It was to retain power as a public official.”

The FBI snagged Yee in the course of a five-year probe into reputed Chinatown crime boss Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow.

Chow was convicted of racketeering charges in December and after a lengthy trial is awaiting sentencing.

Yee was a vocal advocate for gun control, both before and while engaged in gun running.

In 2006 Yee was named to the Gun Violence Prevention Honor Roll by the Brady Campaign. It was for his efforts that included co-authoring a first-in-the-nation bill to require new semiautomatic handguns be equipped with ballistics identification technology known as micro-stamping.

In May 2012, together with Kevin de León, Yee proposed legislation to ban any semi-automatic rifle that used a bullet button that makes the rifle a “fixed magazine rifle.” SB 249 would ban conversion kits and rifles.

Yee is quoted as saying, “It is extremely important that individuals in the state of California do not own assault weapons. I mean that is just so crystal clear, there is no debate, no discussion.”

All eyes are suddenly fixed on Nick Freitas, a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates, now that he’s ticked off a lot of Democrats with his powerful speech on guns that quickly went viral, raking in over 12 million Facebook views since Friday.

The powerful and aggressive speech, which touched on inconvenient truths about the Democrat Party’s history, even triggered some Democrats to walk off the House floor.

Freitas delivered his remarks on Friday as a response to the very heated gun control debate.

“For several days now, some Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates have made public speeches comparing those of us who take our oath to the Constitution seriously, to include the 2nd Amendment, to Nazis and segregationists,” wrote the delegate on Facebook captioning his speech, which he dubbed as his “response” to such attacks.

The Republican first debunked the leftist notion that deterring so-called “gun violence” means further infringing on Second Amendment rights. Digging deeper than gun control measures that he noted have proven ineffective in areas like Chicago and Washington, D.C., he said Americans should be looking at why so many shootings happen in “gun-free zones.” And he called attention to the high likelihood that killers come from a broken home, which he connected to the growing welfare state and the abortion industry, and how hardening schools could be a practical, proactive step.

Addressing the Left’s dirty tactics of impugning Republicans’ moral character to push their gun control agenda, Freitas listed off some hard truths about the history of the Democratic Party, which ruffled some feathers.

“It’s really difficult to have an open and honest debate about this […] because members of this body are comparing members of [the Republican] side of the aisle to Nazis,” he said, adding that it was particularly offensive that GOP members were also compared to “segregationists.”

Freitas unleashed: “It was not our party that supported slavery, that fought women’s suffrage, that rounded up tens of thousands of Asian Americans and put them in concentrations camps, that supported Jim Crow, that supported segregation, or supported mass resistance — that wasn’t our party, that was the Democrat Party,” he said.

“I’d be really appreciative that every time you want to make a powerful point, you don’t project the sins, the atrocities, and the injustices the Democratic Party perpetrated on others onto us,” slammed the Republican.

He also noted the lame talking point that Republicans representatives are “paid off” by the National Rifle Association (NRA). “Why don’t you look at how much Planned Parenthood pays compared ot the NRA?” he said.

A true conversation, he said, “starts with a certain degree of mutual respect.”

Democrats were ticked off by the Republican’s remarks. It was apparently the acknowledgment of the disturbing history of the Democratic Party that made them so uneasy. So they cried racism. As reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Delegate Lamont Bagby said he viewed Freitas’ remarks as racial “dog-whistling.” ​

“We realize that we live in a ugly political moment. So while we were offended, we were not surprised,” said Bagby. “It should embarrass every member of this body that we have allowed such rhetoric to enter these chambers. Bringing up a very painful past to make a political point is disgusting and poisonous.”

Remember: it’s fine to suggest Republicans are choosing NRA money over saving children’s lives, or branding them as Nazis and segregationists for disagreeing with Democratic talking points, but it is unacceptable — a racial dog-whistle actually — to bring up historical truths about the Party of Slavery.

This is why we can’t have a conversation.

Democrats want to ban guns and change laws in order to prevent another shooting similar to what happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas School in Parkland, Florida.

But they should have said something when former President Obama was in office as it was his change to the law that helped the shooter, Nikolas Cruz, avoid being caught.

Protect The Kids.
Prior to Cruz murdering 17 people there were warnings that were ignored.

Calls to the FBI, the local Broward County Sheriff and the school itself were pushed aside as Cruz remained free and now we have found out why.

Broward County Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, who used to work for Obama Education Secretary Arne Duncan in Chicago, said school arrests fell by 63 percent after policies were implemented to stop the “schoolhouse-to-jailhouse pipeline.”

But those policies also kept Cruz from being caught.

Keeping The Guilty Free.
The policy to keep those who should have been arrested from being apprehended is a major reason why Cruz was able to purchase a gun and wreak havoc on his former classmates.

“Mr. Cruz is a perfect example of someone just falling through the cracks that we create through bad policy,” Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputy Association President Jeff Bell told The Washington Times.

“They were basically paying us not to make arrests,” he said.

Superintendent Runcie used to think the policies were fantastic and bragged about President Obama potentially copying them.

“Some of my staff joke that the Obama administration might have taken our policies and framework and developed them into national guidelines,” he told Scholastic Administrator in 2014. “What we’ve got is very aligned with that. We went out early on.”

This was not the only reason that Cruz did what he did, nor is it the only reason he was able to evade being caught prior to the shooting.

During the same week that student-activists and survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School rode buses to Florida’s capital, trailed by a convoy of reporters, to demand tougher gun laws from their representatives, three people were killed and six injured in less than 24 hours in a city with some of the toughest gun laws in the country.

Yet, no one is protesting in Chicago. There won’t be any townhall debates engineered to lecture gun owners there, and the national media certainly won’t be flocking to the Windy City to report on a tragedy that, collectively, amounts to a mass shooting.

Business as usual
The shootings began Saturday afternoon, and when it was over a 17-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man would die after being shot within 20 minutes of each other, and a third man would succumb to his wounds just hours later. 

Jontae Hunt, 17, was the first to pass away during the bloody weekend. He sustained a gunshot wound to the hip around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, just one block from his home. Hunt was initially expected to recover from the shooting after he arrived at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but he soon took a turn for the worse and was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m.

Just 20 minutes after Hunt was shot, a man identified as Jovan R. Killingsworth by the Cook County Medical Examiner sustained a shot to the upper torso in the south side neighborhood of Englewood. Officers found him lying in the vestibule of a building after responding to an emergency call that claimed that someone was shot.

Killingsworth was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his death as a result of pending felony gun possession charges. He had a record of gun violence himself stemming from an aggravated assault of a police officer charge where law enforcement shot him in the foot after he pointed a gun at pursuing police.

Killingsworth was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition before doctors pronounced him dead at 10:21 p.m.

Finally, a 29-year-old man was pronounced dead by responding police at 3:50 a.m. Authorities say Christopher Lewis was shot several times in the head following an argument with someone in the South Austin neighborhood of Chicago’s west side.

His body was discovered in an alley behind a healthcare center on the corner of Mayfield and Washington Boulevard.

Starting around 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and ending early Sunday morning, six other men were shot and wounded in incidents throughout the city. Ranging in age from 19 to 34, the victims sustained injuries ranging from wounds to the extremities to gunshots to the back and chest.

One of these victims, a 29-year-old man, was walking through the south side neighborhood of Gresham when he suffered gunshot wounds to the left lower leg and left jaw, as well as graze wounds to the right chin and neck. After receiving treatment at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, doctors said that the unnamed victim was in stable condition.

Miracle of modern medicine
Chicago’s world-class trauma care system can be credited with reducing the number killed during bloody weekends like the one experienced in Chicago last week.

While city leaders point to a gradual downward trend in homicides throughout the city beginning after a peak in violence in 1995, with notable upticks in violence in 2016 and 2017, stricter gun laws and more aggressive policing are not the cause.

John Barrett, former director of the trauma unit at Stroger Hospital, explained how Chicago’s first responders are uniquely prepared to deal with the violence in the embattled city:

People that would have died are now surviving with disabilities, and people who would have survived with disabilities are now surviving with a full recovery.

Barrett argued that trauma specialists “are shifting the spectrum backward. The end result is that less people are actually dying of those who were shot.”

Cook County President of the Board of Commissioners Tony Preckwinkle argued that policymakers should be careful to draw any conclusions from reduced homicides. He said:

It’s not really the murder rate but the shootings that we ought to be looking at. The world-class nature of our trauma care masks, to some extent, the problem. … Looking at the gun violence issue as simply a policing issue is a terrible mistake.

Mecca of Murder
If changing police tactics can’t be credited for the reduction in the total number of homicides in Chicago, neither can stricter gun laws. Illinois has tougher gun control laws than most states, and Cook County has instituted its own gun reforms in response to increased violence.

Illinois is one of only a few states that require gun purchasers to have a permit to purchase firearms, and all citizens must undergo a mandatory waiting period to buy a weapon. Cook County, where Chicago is located, has passed an assault weapons ban and prohibited handguns within city limits until a 2008 Supreme Court ruling found that ban unconstitutional.

Until recently, the city requires gun owners to register their weapons, and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence has awarded the state a B+ for its gun law. Yet, none of these laws have been effective at reducing violence throughout the crime-ridden city.

Proponents of still stricter laws argue that gun laws are actually working, and nearby states with looser gun laws are responsible for the violence in Chicago. They point to a 2015 study which shows that 60 percent of the guns used in gang-related violence in the city actually came from other states.

In reality, this study simply proves what victims of crime already know; criminals will go to great lengths to obtain weapons and break the law. By August of 2017, Chicago law enforcement had confiscated 6,000 stolen firearms — about as many as were taken during the same period in 2016.

This proves that criminals and gang members are stealing these out-of-state weapons, rather than driving to nearby Indiana and Wisconsin to legally purchase firearms.

Until lawmakers realize that gun reform will not reduce violence, Chicago will remain the Mecca of Murder for the United States, and last weekend’s bloody death toll will continue, week after deadly week.

If progressives thought that conservatives were going to sit idly by and allow the gun grabbing narrative to take over, they were sorely mistaken.

Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro proved that during her keynote speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week. “Here is this New Yorker’s answer to you. It is not only no, it is hell no!” she said.

Hell No.
The gun control debate was a central focus of CPAC this year and Pirro did not pull punches when she smashed the agenda being pushed by Democrats and the mainstream media.

“All (of) this nonsense about ‘we need to insure guns, we need to track guns, we need to register guns, we need to do this to guns,'” she said. “No, what you need to do is stop gun crime and start prosecuting those who are buying guns and using them illegally and stop being afraid to use the power of the law against those who are looking to hurt the rest of us.”

“And they want to hold us up to public disdain by telling people that we, the legal gun owners, are dangerous,” Pirro said.

“And they want to tell people, what kind of guns we should have, or whether we should even have a gun at all. How much ammunition is enough ammunition? And how big a magazine we should have,” she added.

No Permission Needed.
Pirro explained that the Constitution enshrines American’s right to own a firearm for protection.

It is a natural right, confirmed by the Constitution, not given to citizens by politicians in Washington.

“I don’t need your permission or your sanctimonious condescension as to the reason why I should have or should not have a gun,” she said.

“I own guns because it’s my right. it’s my Second Amendment right and no one in Washington gave me that right,” she explained. “And you’re not going to take it away. It is a natural right confirmed by the very people who founded this nation.”

That is what progressives cannot comprehend.

They run to courts and petition lawmakers to change our natural human rights as enshrined in the Constitution, while at the same time they insist that nonexistent rights, like abortion, free healthcare and free college, to be made into laws.

They don’t get how America works — and they want everyone else to follow along in their dystopian fantasy.

In his latest rant at The Root, Young speaks of America’s “white people problem” and how that is to blame for gun violence, not lack of gun control.

Young begins his treatise by recalling a time he biked with his wife and some friends through the rural areas of Pennsylvania and Maryland, where he recalls seeing only four black people while being “surrounded by whiteness.”

In America, white people are everywhere, and this ubiquity connects to perhaps our greatest irony: We (black people) are vastly outnumbered by them. They also own more land, earn and possess more money, and have all the guns. Most of the people making laws are white, as are most of the people enforcing them. There are entire states you can drive through without seeing one of us, entire lives that can be led without ever having any meaningful interaction with us. We are surrounded, outnumbered, out-resourced and outgunned. Our entire existence here is a continual assault on our bodies.

But we are the ones perceived to be the threats. We are the ones they’re scared of. We are the ones who tell our children how to dress and how to wear their hair so they’re not thought of as threats to them. We are the ones who consciously and subconsciously modify our voices and our behavior when forced to interact with them. We’re the ones whom trained officers with weapons and badges and handcuffs and legal justifications are so damn scared of that we’ve created entire curricula based on that fear, teaching ourselves what to do to seem less frightening to them.

She Is Sick – Barbra Streisand Blames Our President For Florida Shooting: Trump Brings Out The Violence In People.

Barbra Streisand is directly blaming President Trump for the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Streisand said that Trump “affected” shooter, Nikolas Cruz, who murdered 17 on February 14.

“Trump brings out the violence in people,” Streisand claimed in a recent interview with Variety magazine.

Streisand, on some level, feels that Trump shares the blame for the recent Florida high school shooting, which claimed the lives of 17 students and teachers. “I think even that shooter was affected because Trump brings out the violence in people. He says, ‘It’s OK — rally, lock her up.’”

Streisand was referring to President Trump’s rally chant about rival Hillary Clinton, but the article did not elaborate how it was connected to the school shooting.

In the interview, Streisand — a lifelong Democrat — also said that Trump “embodies the nasty remarks he makes about other people. He’s a liar. He’s crooked.”

She added that Hillary was “just too smart” in her 2016 election loss and floated conspiracy theories that Trump rigged the election.

“I really believe she won the election,” she claimed. “I’ve talked to senators from Michigan and Wisconsin. I do believe, like I believed during Bush, they were playing with those voter machines. And [Al Gore] lost by 537 votes out of 104 million. And now, in retrospect, Bush looks quite good compared to Trump.”

The talk then turns to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, with Streisand saying she thinks that President Trump’s braggadocios nature and public comments fueled the teenager who murdered 17 people.

‘I think even that shooter was affected because Trump brings out the violence in people. He says, “It’s OK — rally, lock her up,”” explains the actress.

She characterizes Trump at one point by saying: ‘He embodies the nasty remarks he makes about other people. He’s a liar. He’s crooked.’

Streisand also reveals that she was with Clinton on the day she infamously called Trump supporters a ‘basket of deplorables’ during her campaign.

‘She was sick,’ explains Streisand.

‘I was giving her tea. I was like, “Here, these are good lozenges, and you’re coughing and you got to keep drinking liquids.” I didn’t know she had pneumonia.’

Two days later, Clinton collapsed while leaving an event paying tribute to the victims of 9/11 at Ground Zero.

It has been more than a week since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas School in Parkland, Florida that left 17 dead, and every day we find out more ways in which the Broward County police were incompetent.

Not only have we learned that the police received at least 45 calls involving Cruz or his family, we now know that one 911 call came from Cruz himself just after Thanksgiving last fall.

911 call
In a 911 call recording, Cruz is heard describing to Palm Beach county dispatchers how he had gotten into a fight and was upset about losing his mother. “The thing is I lost my mother a couple weeks ago, so, like, I’m dealing with a bunch of things right now,” he told a 911 dispatcher.

Cruz flew into a rage after he lost a picture of his recently deceased mother, according to a police report dated Nov. 28, 2017, The Sun-Sentinel reported.

He punched walls and broke things in the mobile home he was staying at in his fit of anger, according to the report. When police found him later at a neighborhood park he apologized for what he had done.

The dispatch center sent deputies to Cruz’s location.

Dangerous
Roxanne Deschamps, with whom Cruz and his brother were living for a short time after their adoptive mother died, told police that he was dangerous and said she thought he might have guns buried in her backyard.

“He got pissed off and then he came in the house and started banging all the doors and banging in the walls and hitting the walls and throwing everything in the room,” Deschamps said. “And then my son got in there and he said, ‘Stop it,’ and he didn’t want to stop.”

She told police that he had punched her 22-year-old son, Rock Deschamps, and she was afraid he was going to come back with a gun to get revenge on the family.

“He put the gun on the head of his brother before, so not the first time, and he did that to his mom… It’s not the first time he’s put a gun on somebody’s head,” she said.

“That’s all he wants is his gun,” she continued. “And that’s all he cares about is his gun. He bought tons of bullets and stuff and I took it away from him.”

Red Flags
It was not the first time that the police had been called about Cruz. Buzzfeed reported last week that the Broward County Sheriff’s office had responded to at least 45 calls involving the shooter or his family since 2008, according to call records.

Broward County sheriff’s officials said in a statement late Saturday that they responded only to 23 calls involving suspected Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz or his family over the years, but records obtained by BuzzFeed News show at least 45 responses since 2008.

The number of calls made over the years involving Cruz or his family, according to the call records, are nearly twice the number publicly disclosed by the department.

The number is far higher than the “23 calls” that Sheriff Scott Israel insisted they had responded to.

Broward County’s progressive sheriff faces increasing pressure to resign under criticism of how his department has handled both the red flags about the shooter and the actions taken during the event, but so far, he’s fighting back.

Israel insisted to CNN’s Jake Tapper during a contentious interview Sunday, “Of course I won’t resign.”

The Florida school shooting, perhaps to a greater extent than any other, has been used and continues to be used to further the political agenda of gun control advocates. In a marked departure from previous shootings, local figures seem to be at the center of the politicizing of the tragedy, and no local official has personified this trend as much as Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. But is Israel merely a local policeman looking out for his community, or is he a politician looking out for his career?

Upon further investigation, it turns out that Sheriff Israel has harbored anti-gun sentiments for years. This comes as pictures have been unearthed showing Israel shaking hands with many liberal anti-gun politicians, including Hillary Clinton.

Sheriff Israel – the politician?
Scott Israel is the Sheriff of Broward County, and as such he led local law enforcement in the Parkland, Florida shooting. However, after seeing some of his recent television appearances, you might be forgiven for thinking that he is actually a Florida politician.

One of Israel’s more notable recent appearances came during CNN’s so-called Town Hall Gun Debate. The partisan crowd can be heard erupting as Israel says, “We do need to have some gun control reform. Eighteen-year-olds should never have a rifle.” He went on to list various ways he thinks that guns should be regulated, including bump-stocks and automatic rifles.

Additionally, Israel has continuously argued that those with mental health problems should not have the right to possess firearms. On one occasion he stated:

I’ve said this time and time again. While the people who are victims of mental health illnesses in this country are being treated, in the opinion of this sheriff, they should not be able to buy, surround themselves with, purchase or carry a handgun. Those two things don’t mix.

To many, Israel has been suspiciously adept at handling this situation in the national spotlight; seamlessly promoting the liberal agenda while fulfilling his duties as sheriff at a difficult time. And now it appears that these suspicions were well founded.

Photo Evidence
Israel’s partisanship was exposed by the discovery of a photograph on his Facebook page, in which he can be seen shaking hands with Hillary Clinton. Under the photo, the caption reads, “So nice to see you again, Sheriff.”
In and of itself, this may not seem like much – that is to say, it is not unusual for a local sheriff to shake hands with a politician. However, he did more than simply shake hands with Hillary – he announced his endorsement of her, and he volunteered for her campaign.
In addition to the picture with Hillary, investigations have unearthed several photos of Israel with prominent anti-gun liberals, including Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.

Prior history
The Florida school shooting is not the first time that Israel has involved himself in a national gun debate.
The Washington Post reported that Israel was outspoken after another Florida shooting that happened in 2017:
In January 2017, a gunman opened fire at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, killing five and wounding 35 others. It was a crime that brushed against Israel’s own family — his sister-in-law was at the airport during the attack. Afterward, the Broward sheriff publicly spoke about sensible gun policy as a tool to prevent mass violence.

Objectivity compromised?
A situation like that of Sheriff Israel causes one to question what the relationship should be between law enforcement and the political arena. At the end of the day, we want our police officers to do their job in an objective and impartial way – we want them to be professionals.

Does this mean that a police officer cannot have political affiliations? Of course, not. But, knowing what we now know about Sheriff Israel, having seen his television appearances and understood his political background, how confident are you that he is able to do his job impartially without being guided by ideology?

CNN’s Drew Griffin explicitly accused school shooting survivor Colton Haab of lying over the student’s claim that CNN wrote a question for him to recite at the far-left network’s widely criticized anti-gun town hall.
On Thursday evening, President Trump tweeted out criticism of CNN’s ongoing fake news crisis with a quote from Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, who interviewed Haab Thursday night.

“‘School shooting survivor says he quit @CNN Town Hall after refusing scripted question.’ @TuckerCarlson,” Trump tweeted, adding, “Just like so much of CNN, Fake News. That’s why their ratings are so bad! MSNBC may be worse.”

A little over an hour later, the left-wing Griffin blasted Haab with the accusation that the young survivor and JROTC member, who is also being hailed as a hero for helping to move his fellow students to safety during the mass shooting, is lying.

Griffin already made news this week for a “Special Investigations Unit” report where he ambushed an innocent Trump supporter at her home — a Florida woman who might have accidentally shared a “Russian-coordinated event” on her Facebook page. Griffin confronted the woman for her “unwitting” crime against Hillary Clinton, put her face on camera, broadcast her name — including her Facebook display name and profile picture — and even her house number.

Griffin’s ambush resulted in the woman being personally abused and threatened by CNN viewers. Even a number of prominent voices on the left declared Griffin’s behavior “vile” and “despicable.”

CNN has yet to answer for its own role in widely publicizing a “Russia-coordinated event.”

For his part, Haab stands by his claim that CNN’s anti-gun Townhall was rigged with questions scripted by the anti-gun cable channel. Haab says he wanted to ask a question about school security: “They had taken what I had wrote and what I had briefed on and talked about, and they actually wrote the question for me.”

At that point Haab chose to drop out of the Jake Tapper-hosted event, which critics have described as an anti-gun “show trial.” Tapper is facing widespread criticism for his mishandling of the one-sided event and has yet to apologize for his silence as his audience booed a rape survivor.

Before becoming CNN’s midday anti-Trump pundit, Tapper — a former Democratic operative and Salon contributor — worked for Handgun Control, Inc,. which is now the  Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a well-known anti-gun advocacy group.

Haab’s allegation against CNN echoes previous scandals where the network has been caught using left-wing plants on numerous occasions. CNN is currently embroiled in a credibility crisis due to multiple fake news reports — some of which have resulted in significant backlash, forcing the network to retract.

Last week the perennial last-place network’s primetime ratings plummeted –27 percent when compared to this same week last year, far more than first place Fox News. Due to its failures on the digital end, CNN is laying off dozens of staffers.

Gov. Rick Scott (R) is pushing firearm confiscation orders and stands opposed to the suggestion that teachers should be armed for school safety.
CNN reports that Scott is pushing a “Violent Threat Restraining Order,” which are similar to California’s Gun Violence Restraining Orders in that they a designed to secure court orders to confiscate firearms following a family member’s complaint.

It is difficult to see how such orders–designed to be triggered by family requests–would have been effective against Nikolas Cruz. After all, the family with which he was staying repeatedly called the police on him in November 2017 but refused to file charges when sheriff’s deputies arrived. A member of the family with which Cruz was staying explained away Cruz’s erratic behavior by saying he “had been suffering significantly from the loss of his mother” earlier in the month.

Scott is also pushing a bump stock ban, “tougher background checks,” more stringent rules against the mentally ill, and a ban on purchasing or possessing firearms by anyone “subject to an injunction for protection against stalking, cyberstalking, dating violence, repeat violence, sexual violence, or domestic violence.

In other words, gun control, gun control, gun control.

And in the wake of the heinous school shooting in which students and unarmed, defenseless teachers were killed, Scott stands opposed to arming teachers for defense of themselves and their students. He said, “I think you need to have individuals that are trained, well-trained. My focus is let law enforcement do the keeping us safe and let teachers focus on teaching.”

Scott said this even though the law enforcement officer present on campus during the attack failed to confront Cruz. On February 22 ABC 13 reported that Broward County sheriff’s deputy Scott Peterson was on campus outside building 12 during the attack, but “never went in” after Cruz. Peterson resigned from sheriff’s office after his lack of action was uncovered.

A report released Friday claims four of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel’s deputies waited outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while the attack was occurring.
On February 22 Breitbart News reported that one deputy resigned after it was learned that he was on scene but failed to control Nikolas Cruz. Sheriff Israel told ABC 13 that video shows the deputy, Scott Peterson, “arrive at the west side of Building 12” and “take a position” outside the school — but never go inside. The sheriff’s office moved to suspend Peterson, who resigned before the suspension could take place.

Now CNN reports that the Coral Springs police officers claim three other Broward County deputies were outside the school but failed to go inside as well. They quote “Coral Springs sources” who said the three “deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles” when Coral Springs officers arrived. They said “not one of [the deputies] had gone into the school.”

The sources indicate other Broward County deputies arrived on scene, and two of those new arrivals joined with Coral Springs officers and entered the building.

The sources said, “Coral Springs police were stunned and upset that the four original Broward County Sheriff’s deputies who were first on the scene did not appear to join them as they entered the school.”

Coral Springs Police Department public information officer Sgt. Carla Kmiotek would not comment on what Broward County deputies did or did not do. Rather, “The Coral Springs Police Department will speak on behalf of our officers and their response in that incident,” she said. “We will not speak on behalf of Broward Sheriff’s deputies and their response to the incident.”

Actress Mayim Bialik is asking people to vote against candidates supported by the NRA and use “civil disobedience” to secure more gun control.
Bialik took to social media in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, urging her fans and fellow celebrities to “Make it your life’s goal to support and vote for every single person who challenges a politician with NRA money behind them.”

Bialik is also urging “civil disobedience,” which she believes will result in forcing Congress to pass more gun control laws. The actress is a promoting a March 14 “National School Walkout,” which is being organized by the National Women’s March. (The National Women’s March held a July 14, 2017, march which featured armed guards walking with the women who were protesting the NRA and the presence of guns in society).

“This is not about the media and video games glorifying and encouraging violence. I mean, it is and it’s not. It’s not about toxic masculinity, although that’s something we need to discuss as well. The lack of mental health care for people in this country who need it is astounding and horrifying, but that’s not what’s causing these problems right now,” the Big Bang Theory star said in a video posted to her Facebook page. “These are all contributing factors to a larger problem, but we don’t have the ability to solve all of them all together today.”

“We are not being accurately represented by our elected leaders. How can we change that?” she asked. “We can do what Josh Gad, whose close friend lost a child in the shooting Wednesday, has vowed to do. Make it your life’s goal to support and vote for every single person who challenges a politician with NRA money behind them.”
In making this statement she overlooked the 32 innocents who were killed at Virginia Tech (April 16, 2007), when Seung-Hui Cho.
That is correct, he killed 32 people with a handgun. This goes to the larger point which is broadly ignored by gun control celebrities, namely, that the problem is not a specific type of gun but the presence of gun-free zones. When the attacker is the only one armed he has the upper hand, regardless of what type of weapon he uses.

Yet Bialak and other pro-gun control celebrities are pushing for more gun laws, as long as those laws do not include allowing teachers to be armed to defend themselves and their students.

A 15-year-old student’s heroic efforts are being praised for saving the lives of 20 people in the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Wednesday.
Anthony Borges, a freshman soccer player at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, is recovering in the hospital after he was shot five times while using his body as a shield to protect his fellow classmates from the bullets, the Daily Mail reported.

Carlos Rodriguez, Borges’s friend and fellow classmate, said the 15-year-old “took the initiative just to save his other classmates.”

Rodriguez said Borges placed his body between the bullets and his fellow students, allowing them to escape while he took bullets to his legs and back. He added that he would not be alive if Borges had not intervened.

Borges’s father, Royer Borges, told ABC News that his son called and told him he had been shot in the leg and back.

“He’s my hero,” Royer said of his son. “I only ask that people pray for him.”

The FBI is under attack for failing to act on tips that may have prevented the Florida high school massacre.

The revelation that the FBI botched a potentially life-saving tip on the Florida school shooting suspect is a devastating blow to America’s top law enforcement agency.
The FBI received a tip last month that the suspect in the Florida school shooting had a “desire to kill,” had access to guns and could be plotting an attack. But the agency said Friday that agents failed to investigate.
The FBI’s acknowledgment that it mishandled the tip prompted a sharp rebuke from its boss, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and a call from Florida’s Republican Gov. Rick Scott for FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign.
First it was revealed that the FBI failed to delve into a YouTube comment posted by a “Nikolas Cruz” that said, “I’m going to be a professional school shooter.” The FBI said it could not determine who made it.
Then on Friday, the bureau said it had failed to act on a tip that Cruz had a “desire to kill people,” posting disturbing social media posts and has access to a gun.
Nikolas Cruz, who on Wednesday shot and killed 17 high school students in the Florida high school he had attended, advocated racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic views, which he expressed on social media. He also displayed an obsession with violence and guns and cruelty to animals.
‘Tragic consequence’ of the FBI’s failure
Sessions called the massacre a “tragic consequence” of the FBI’s failure. He ordered a review of the Justice Department procedures. The House Judiciary and Oversight committees demanded Wray brief them on what went wrong.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl) said it was “inexcusable” that the FBI did not follow protocols and urged Congress to launch its own investigation. Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fl) promised to be in “close communication with the FBI so we can get to the bottom of this.”
Wray apologized in a rare statement, admitting the FBI’s missteps. But Scott, the governor, said that “isn’t going to cut it.”
“People must have confidence in the follow-through from law enforcement,” he said, calling for Wray to step down.
‘Somebody did not do their job’
In the Florida school shooting, “somebody made a mistake, somebody did not do their job,” said Jeffrey Ringel, a former FBI agent and Joint Terrorism Task force member who now works for the Soufan Group, a private security firm.
“The FBI will be criticized for a failing that they have basically owned up to,” he said. “It’s a learning lesson. Unfortunately, a very expensive learning lesson.”
President Donald Trump lashed out at the FBI Saturday night, saying the agency “missed all of the many signals” sent by the suspect in the Florida school shooting and arguing they are “spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.”
Trump said on Twitter: “This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign – there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!”

Florida high school shooter espoused extreme racist, anti-Semitic and xenophobic views and openly expressed them on social media.

Nikolas Cruz, who shot and killed 17 high school students in Florida on Wednesday, advocated racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic views, which he expressed on social media. He also displayed an obsession with violence and guns.
CNN reported Saturday that Cruz’s hateful remarks were posted on a private Instagram group, named “Murica (American flag emoji) (eagle emoji) great.” He wrote that he hated, “jews, ni**ers, immigrants.”
Cruz talked about killing Mexicans, keeping black people in chains and cutting their necks.
His remarks are several of hundreds of racist messages, racist memes and racist videos posted in the group, CNN reported.
Cruz said he hated black people simply because they were black, and he hated Jews because he believed they wanted to destroy the world.
After one member expressed hatred for gay people, Cruz said, “Shoot them in the back of head.”
One member remarked about Cruz’s particular spitefulness, saying that although he hated black people too, unlike Cruz, he didn’t “to a point I wanna kill the (sic) like nick.”
In one anti-Semitic tirade, Cruz referenced his biological mother, saying, “My real mom was a Jew. I am glad I never met her,” CNN reported. Cruz was adopted by a couple as a baby.
Cruz expressed hatred for white women as well, specifically those in interracial relationships, whom he referred to as “traitors.”
At one point in the chat, he wrote, “I think I am going to kill people.” After a member told him not to say things like that, he said he was “just playing.”
In two instances, Cruz also discussed his killing of small animals. He posted a photo on his Instagram account of a disemboweled frog, saying he killed it because one had killed his dog. In the Instagram chat, he describes killing a number of birds with his gun.
“He seemed nice but also had some mental issues,” one group member told CNN. “All (I know) is that he likes guns and really hates liberals.”
Five of the 17 victims killed by Cruz were Jews, identified as  Jamie Guttenberg, Alyssa Alhadeff, Alex Schachter, Meadow Pollack, and teacher Scott Beigel, who was lauded for putting himself in the line of fire to save his students.

In a story entitled, “Florida school shooting suspect was ex-student who was flagged as threat,” 
 
the Miami Herald describes Nikolas Cruz as “a troubled teen with few friends and an obsessive interest in weapons.”
 
The story quotes Barbara Kumbatovich, an in-law of the family, who “said she believed Nikolas Cruz was on medication to deal with his emotional fragility.”
 
Other media sources — even the Washington Post — 
 
have reported Cruz was treated in a “mental health” clinic, which are of course well known for dosing up patients with mind-altering, psychiatric drugs.
 
Psychiatric drugs are the common thread in nearly all school shootings

The left-wing media, predictably, exploits every school shooting to push its agenda of repealing the Second Amendment and confiscating guns from law-abiding citizens, turning the United State of America into a police state where a corrupt government has a monopoly of firepower. But they refuse to consider the mind-altering effects of psychiatric medication, which emerges in nearly every school shooting in recent memory.
 
Psychiatric medications cause shooters to believe they are playing a video game
The working explanation behind the psych drug link to mass shootings is that psychiatric drugs cause shooters to believe they’re playing a video game. The medication disconnects their brains from the real world, and the actions they’re taking don’t seem “real” to them.
 
One of the ways SSRI drugs and other psych drugs actually work is by disconnecting the brain from emotional reality. This is widely considered to be a “treatment” for “depression.” See my music video “S.S.R.Lies” for a musical rendition of how this works:

Notably, such drugs do not actually resolve the cause of depression. They merely cause individuals to mentally disconnect from their real life, making the causes of depression seem far away (or not real). This same biochemical mechanism, when combined with a disturbed individual who may have been subjected to extreme bullying by classmates, can cause that person to act out a mass shooting as if they were playing a video game. It doesn’t seem real to them until the drugs wear off, at which point they express extreme sorrow once they realize their actions were real. This is exactly what’s happening now with Nikolas Cruz.
 
Until America gets serious about the links between psychiatric medications and mass shootings, we’ll never solve this problem (and more mass shootings can be expected).
 
For ten years, I’ve been warning America about the link between psychiatric medications and mass shootings
As I wrote in Natural News almost a decade ago, in an article entitled, “Orlando shooter, US army Fort Hood shooter both linked to psychiatric drugs:”
 
Until we halt the chemical holocaust being perpetrated against our world by the psychiatric drugging industry, we will continue to see more of these violent, drug-induced shootings take place. Count on it. Psych drugs cause violence. And the more psych drugs are prescribed, the more violence we’ll see.
 
According to Medwatch statistics, 63,000 people in the U.S. have committed suicide while on antidepressant drugs (that’s more than ten times the number of Americans who have died from H1N1 swine flu, by the way).
 
The mainstream media absolutely refuses to tell you the truth about the link between psychiatric drugs and violent killings, but it’s the obvious connection in nearly every single shooting that’s taken place in recent memory: The Virginia Tech shooting, the Stephen Kazmierczak Illinois shooting (Stephen Kazmierczak), the Omaha mall shooting, and so on.
 
Two years earlier, in December of 2007, I publicly predicted more school shootings would take place among psychiatric medication patients:
 
There will be more. I hate to be accurate about this grisly prediction, because I grieve for the families of those lost to pharmaceutically-induced violence, but the truth is that until we stop drugging our children with psychotropic drugs, the shootings are not going to stop.
 
Left-wing Hollywood elitists like Jimmy Kimmel want to cry on stage and blame the NRA or President Trump, but the real answer is that psychiatric medications are the root “enablers” behind most mass shootings, and I’ve been reporting this for over a decade. Yet the political influence of the drug giants is so powerful that no serious investigation has ever been conducted into the psych drug medication habits of mass shooters.
 
America, it turns out, really doesn’t want to stop mass shootings as much as it wants to have easy access to psychiatric medications. Until we take a serious look at this issue, the violence will continue. And even if you ban guns, killers would start using vehicles, bombs, swords or other weapons to carry out their deranged intent.

7 Simple Steps to Eliminate School Shootings Overnight

After days of bitter hurt, anger, deep savage argument, and plenty of non-thinking social media trolls blurting whatever comes to mind through their thumbs, it’s time we as Americans begin a genuine discussion about how to stop the next school shooting from occurring.

It’s important that we do this even though gun deaths are by no means the most dangerous form of death in America today.

In 2017, with 300,000,000-plus guns in the hands of Americans, there were 15,549 gun deaths. This ranks less than half the number of automobile deaths even though there are fewer cars in existence than guns. In 2017, there were 253,000,000 cars in existence and 41,000 auto deaths.

Nonetheless, the rhetoric is so loud and the anger so tightly wound that a way forward needs to begin. Genuinely good people on both sides of this issue disagree. Pro-gun people believe that owning a gun is one step of many in helping to keep their families safe and their government from becoming too tyrannical. Anti-gun people believe that the mere existence of a gun is a danger to all. But note that both sets of people desire safety in general.

With very little expertise, but with a robust research ability, my staff and I began looking at this issue this week from the perspective of what could be done that would be tangible, but also acceptable to both sides of the discussion. Here’s seven simple steps that can and should be implemented overnight across the country and in similar fashion school shootings would be eliminated. This list is not exhaustive but is a starting point where good-willed people can come together to make a significant difference now.

1. Metal Detectors In Every School: This maintains such common sense it’s impossible to believe that it doesn’t already happen. This is a bigger failure in the era of post-Columbine than the popularity of the AR-15. How do the largest schools in our nation (Stoneman Douglas is one of the largest at over 3,000 students) not have access points controlled through a metal detector daily? Our courts, government buildings, airports, sports stadiums, conventions, and plenty of other public gatherings demand them.

2. Enforce Everything: Oddly those calling for more laws to be added to the already overly tufted books of law regarding firearms may not realize just how many laws already exist. Simple enforcement of existing laws would cut down on uncounted numbers of people owning guns, possessing guns, and utilizing guns. This is particularly true in the area of those with mental health issues. Begin doing what laws already state must be done, and do so like our children’s lives depend on it.

3. Perform Active Shooter Drills: In many school districts in the nation earthquake drills are performed. No children have died in earthquakes at an American school in years but the drills go forward. “Sequester and Hide” (and then get your cell phone out and begin “facebook-LIVE-ing”) should be replaced with “Barricade, Attack, & Survive.” Young people should be aware of how quickly they can move a teacher’s desk and their own to protect against a shooter. These should be practiced and drilled at minimum in comparison to earthquake drills.

4. Reinforce Doors, Windows, Buses, Locks: Though these things left to themselves were installed and still did not stop the shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, they are able to stop some of the carnage. At the Stoneman Douglas high school, the shooter attempted to shoot through the reinforced glass of the classrooms in an attempt to shoot victims outside the building, but was unable to because of the technology of the glass. That piece of hardened, thickened glass saved lives.

5. Recruit Retired Military & Law Enforcement: The number of qualified public safety professionals that live in our communities is surprising. These friends and neighbors have already received certification and weapons training. Most of them (unless they become criminals) are already allowed to own, possess, and carry firearms. Having them operate the access points at all schools, check every backpack and bag carried onto the premises, and engage every threat be it a firearm, a pocketknife or any other form of contraband — would not only ensure a safer school campus, but also a more rule following, law abiding one. Drugs, porn, and other forms of disruptive materials would be filtered out of the school campus environment on the threat of being discovered every day by the school security professional.

6. Arm All Appropriate Personnel: Giving teachers, coaches, and administrators (only the ones who wish to) the right to protect themselves on campus is a backstop to all other methods. But it is a genuine deterrent nonetheless. If only 5-10% of staff were also armed, certified, and properly trained, there would be no threat that first got through the detectors, security professionals, and the hallways that would still be allowed complete and utter access to the student body. Instead of a coach taking bullets, giving up his life to protect his students, numbers of teachers and coaches would be ready to confront any threat that made it to their area of the campus.

7. Publicize Consequence: The mere knowledge of this list of obstacles to any attacker may not completely dissuade them. But since it was readily apparent that this list of steps would have actually saved some if not all of the lives in Florida this week, one thing can be easily understood. Any individual who decides to try something under these guidelines runs a much larger threat of being caught, captured, and killed if he tries it. So talk about it openly. Do the drills, teach the kids to fight for their own survival, tell the predators in advance that if they choose to attack a school it is open war on them, and before they ever have the chance to enter the facility the daunting challenge they will face will likely be a price too steep for them to be willing to pay.

Israel has already put some of these steps into practice and the nation has seen almost zero school attacks since adopting them.

None of these steps infringe upon law-abiding people’s Second Amendment rights.

All of these steps attempt to stop and engage mentally ill or deliberately belligerent attackers.

This list would make an immediate impact on every school that adopts them.

No common sense American can deny their effectiveness.

The debate over guns in America has surged again to the forefront of conversation in the wake of the horrific school shooting in Florida last week.

A deranged gunman went on a rampage through the Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17. Many are calling for stricter gun laws in the wake of the shooting.  One of the students of Stoneman Douglas said this weekend that his coach, who died in the shooting, would have then able to confront the gunman had he been able to carry his firearm to school.

While the idea of arming teachers is a controversial one nationally,  a school district in Texas has been arming their teachers for over 4 years. The Argyle School Independent School District decided in 2014 to allow highly trained members of staff to carry guns on campus to prevent mass shootings.

On MSNBC this weekend, Sheriff Paul Cairney of Argyle, Texas, described the process by which staff members can carry firearms in the school district. The Sheriff said that the staff at the school who choose to carry a firearm go through an intense round of interviews and training before they are allowed to carry on campus. The MSNBC host was flabbergasted at the practice and asked the Sheriff about concerns for the safety of the students in the school when there are firearms around.

The Sheriff said the practice is heavily restricted, but the “time to do nothing is over”  when it comes to combating school shooters.
Here is the process to carry a firearm in the Argyle school district, according to a recent ABC report:

To become a school marshal, those employees must undergo extensive active shooter and firearms training with the state. They must also undergo a mental health evaluation.

They receive a school marshal designation by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and must renew their license every two years by undergoing the same training and evaluation.

School shootings, such as the one which just saw 17 killed in Florida, and terrorist attacks both involve killing large numbers of innocent people. To parents who have lost a child, whichever motive used by the killer will probably matter little.

To those seeking to understand horrific events and figure out how to prevent them, motive matters quite a lot. Clarion and other outlets concerned with Islamism and terrorism have frequently argued that what separates school shootings from terror attacks is that terrorism is motivated by ideology, whereas school shootings are, while abhorrent, apolitical. We have therefore treated them as separate categories of event, requiring very different responses.

We stand by that basic distinction. But if we want a violence-free world — a laudable, if distant and perhaps unachievable goal — it is worth investigating similarities to see if there are common root causes in play. Matt Walsh framed the question perfectly for the Daily Wire, asking simply, “Why would a person choose to do something like this?”

With that in mind, here are three similarities between mass shootings and terrorist attacks, with tentative analysis of how these factors could be tackled.


1.People Are Murdered in Very Similar Ways

Starting with the most obvious similarity, people are murdered. They are murdered with sophisticated weaponry in a precise and systematic way. Indeed the attacks look so similar in methodology that in cases such as the Vegas shooting, for the first several hours nobody knew if the shooting was an Islamist terrorist attack or a non-ideological mass shooting. We still don’t know gunman Stephen Paddock’s true motive.

Compare those attacks to the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, an act of terrorism carried out with the same methodology as a school shooting.

Terrorism does not take place in a vacuum and both terrorists and mass shooters learn from each other in how to inflict maximum carnage. It seems likely therefore that reducing different kinds of violence would have a knock-on effect, by lowering the amount of potential inspiration for such acts.

 

2.Notoriety Plays a Role

Contemporary culture is a media-driven culture. Anyone who commits a mass shooting of any kind is aware of the fame and attention poured onto those who commit acts of mass violence. Someone using the name Nikolas Cruz, the name of the perpetrator of the latest school shooting, posted a 2017 YouTube comment, “I’m going to be a professional school shooter.”

After the Florida attack, threats of copycat shootings by school students across the country led to multiple arrests.

As a result of this notoriety factor, in 2015, 70 families of school shooting victims asked media outlets not to use the names of school shooters when reporting attacks, calling on them to “recognize that the prospect of infamy could serve as a motivating factor for other individuals to kill and could inspire copycat crimes.”

Psychologists have also argued that a desire for infamy can motivate terrorists as well. The awareness of this phenomenon led many people to lash out against Rolling Stone magazine when the publication put Boston bomber Dzokhar Tsarnaev on the magazine’s cover in a glamorous pose.

Reducing coverage of the specific killers could reduce the likelihood of disenfranchised young men.

 

3.Toxic Masculinity

You will find no shortage of think pieces blaming toxic masculinity for gun violence, both apolitical mass shootings and terrorist attacks. Toxic masculinity is the theory that certain extreme and narrow ideas about what it means to be a man — focusing on violence, strength, a lack of showing emotion and domination of women — are widespread and cause significant harm, especially when men feel left out and alienated from contemporary understandings of masculine success (power, wealth, women).

Despite the rhetoric from some sections of both the left and right, toxic masculinity in the most precise and useful understanding of the term does not mean masculinity in general. It is contrasted with healthy or positive masculinity, which can be a tremendous force for good.

They have a point.

The vast majority of mass shootings, like the vast majority of terrorist attacks, are perpetrated by men.

Santa Barbara killer Elliot Rodgers wrote an entire 137-page manifesto aimed viciously at women and their refusal to have sex with him. It seems unlikely that the most recent shooter’s decision to strike on Valentine’s Day was a coincidence.

Meanwhile, consider the promised rewards for Islamist terrorists in paradise — 72 virgins and an eternity of debauchery and bliss. ISIS offers recruits the chance to take sex-slaves and rule over their wives.

As Time Magazine, like many others has argued, “Young men are facing a masculinity crisis.” Men who are losing in the modern world can, in their rage and frustration, turn to violence as a salve.

Supporting positive and emotionally healthy visions of what it means to be a man — together with a framework for community, meaning and personal growth for young men — could be effective in dissuading potential shooters long before they begin a path to mass murder.

On Wednesday—Valentine’s Day—a gunman entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and opened fire. His rampage killed 17 people, including 3 teachers and 14 students. Former student Nikolas Cruz, 19, was arrested an hour after the shooting without incident.
Once arrested, Cruz made a shocking confession to police. Not only did Cruz admit to the shooting of his fellow students and teachers, but he also explained how he carried out his deadly mission—and says “demons” made him do it.
A Deadly Day
The morning and early afternoon at Marjory Stoneman seemed pretty typical until Cruz arrived, set off the fire alarm and some smoke grenades, and opened fire on his unsuspecting victims.
The former student —who was expelled last year for violent behavior— told police he was carrying extra ammunition in a backpack and an additional duffel bag.
Using the chaotic scene as his cover, Cruz melted into the crowd and made his escape amongst the fleeing students. Entering a Walmart, then a McDonald’s, the shooter was picked up by police an hour later.
Speaking to police after his arrest, the killer explained his actions, claiming that he hears the voices of demons who told him to carry out the horrific killing.
A Disturbed Young Man
In the 48 hours since the shooting, a picture has emerged of a man whose history is so disturbing that students and teachers were not surprised to learn that Cruz was the shooter.
He is an adopted son who lost both his adopted parents within the last 2 years and his social media accounts were a litany of violence and anger.
A member of a white supremacist group claimed that Cruz was a fellow adherent, and the media jumped on the idea that the shooter was a right-wing extremist.
After the county sheriff countered that by saying there were no known ties, the member tried to backtrack, blaming lack of sleep.
Cruz was a former member of his high school’s JROTC team.
In a tragic twist of fate, one of the current JROTC cadets protected a group of fleeing students, while Cruz fired at them, by hiding them behind Kevlar panels meant to be used during training exercises.
In his first court appearance, Cruz was remanded without bond. He won’t be leaving a prison cell anytime soon.

The deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook erupted Wednesday as authorities say a 19-year-old man with a troubled past and an AR-15 rifle stalked the halls of Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Expelled from the school over disciplinary problems, Nikolas Cruz is accused of squeezing off shot after shot as students took cover under desks, fire alarms blared and teachers barricaded classrooms. By the time it was over, 17 people were dead or dying, and 16 were wounded.

The AR-15 used in the mass shooting was legally bought by Cruz, attorney Jim Lewis told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Cruz already owned the gun when he moved in with his friend’s family in northwest Broward around Thanksgiving, Lewis said. “It was his gun,” Lewis said. “The family made him keep it in a locked gun cabinet in the house but he had a key.”

The family did not see him shooting the AR-15 but did see him shooting pellet guns, Lewis said.

Cruz was arrested off campus and was taken to Broward Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Although some students described Cruz as a normal teenager, others and some of his neighbors called him strange, troubled and depressed.

A firearms enthusiast whose adoptive mother died last November, Cruz talked about shooting lizards, squirrels and frogs, said Trevor Hart, who knew him from Spanish class and said he seemed “a little off.” Police were called to his house numerous times, said a former neighbor, Shelby Speno, and he was seen shooting at a neighbor’s chickens.

“He wore a hoodie and always had his head down,” said Janine Kartiganer, a former neighbor. “He looked depressed.”

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said 17 people were killed, including both students and adults, with two shot outside the school, one in the street, 12 inside the school and two dying from their wounds at the hospital. Five of the victims remain unidentified, he said. This was the worst school shooting since 26 children and adults were shot to death at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012.

Investigators have begun analyzing Cruz’s social media accounts, which the sheriff said contained material that was “very, very disturbing.”

Coconut Creek police arrested him in a nearby neighborhood in Coral Springs, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Wearing a red shirt, black pants and black boots, Cruz was placed on a gurney.

He was showing signs of labored breathing. So at 4:47 p.m., he was wheeled into Broward Health North hospital in Deerfield Beach. Later he was taken from the hospital to Broward Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.

“People are still undergoing surgery,” Israel said. “We just pray for this city, pray for this school, the parents, the folks that lost their lives. It’s a horrific, horrific day.”

Among those shot was the school’s athletic director, Chris Hixon, according to the school’s assistant athletic director Marilyn Rule. No information was immediately available on his condition.

Seventeen victims were taken to four area hospitals, and two of those victims died at the hospital.

Seven victims were being treated at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Benny Menendez told a crowd of reporters. Two were in critical condition and five were stable.

“We do drills and when this happens we’re ready,” Menendez said. “We practice for this.”

The school, located in an well-off, low-crime neighborhood near the Everglades, will be closed for the rest of the week.

FBI agents were on the scene interviewing students asking for anyone who saw the shooter.

“You’re OK!” one student said as she cried and hugged her friend who had just come out. “You’re safe now, don’t worry.”

Samuel Dykes, a freshman, was on the third floor of the school when he said he heard gunshots and saw several bodies in a classroom.

SWAT told the class to keep their eyes forward as they exited the school, he said.

At around dismissal time at 2:40 p.m., staff and students heard what sounded like gunfire and enacted a “code red” lockdown, according to the Broward School District.

“It’s a horrific situation,” Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie said. “It’s just a horrible day for us.”

Students were streaming down Pine Island Road at 3:30, some of them crying, some talking on cellphones.

Meghan Walton's mascara was running as she walked down Pine Island Road with her mother, Derval Walton. She was waiting in the car line to pick her 15-year-old freshman daughter up when she got the ominous text from her: "Code Red."

"Kids were running out full of blood," Derval Walton said. "Kids were falling in the grass."

Hannah Siren, 14, was in math class on the third floor.

"The people next door to us must have not locked their door," she said, breaking into tears. "They all got shot."

"10 or ... 7"

Andy Pedroza, 18, of Parkland, was returning to class when he heard shots.

“My instincts kicked in,” he said. He ran to the bathroom and hid in a stall. “The toilet was slippery and I thought I would make too much noise,” he said, so he didn’t crouch on the toilet.

He waited what he thought was at least 20 minutes until the shooting stopped, then he heard the sirens and the police chatter on their radios.

He walked out of the bathroom, and police directed him outside, patted him down and said, “Just run.”

President Trump tweeted: “My prayers and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrible Florida shooting. No child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school.”

Deputy White House Press Secretary Lindsay Walters said, “We are monitoring the situation,” she said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected.”

Gov. Rick Scott announced plans to come to Broward County immediately. He spoke on the phone with Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, Broward schools superintendent Robert Runcie and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Rick Swearingen, according to the governor’s office. He ordered flags on all state buildings to be set at half-staff in “remembrance of the victims of the senseless violence committed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.”

All Broward school district athletic events were canceled for that night.

Jay Golden, of Parkland, has a daughter Rachel who was at the school when the first sign of problem came. Rachel, a senior, texted him that there was a Code Red, a shooting, and she didn’t know if it was real or a drill.

At 3 p.m. she still hadn’t been evacuated from the 900 building, but told her father she was safe with 40 other students and a teacher.

“She was crying, she’s scared,” he said. “She’s been texting back and forth. She’s OK at the moment.”

“I’m freaking out,” her father said. “This is crazy, this stuff shouldn’t be going on in these schools. People are crazy. I don’t know what goes on through these people’s minds these days, it’s a scary thing. It’s one of those things - you don’t want to put a metal protector and treat them like prisoners but they have to figure something out. You put your kids in school and it’s supposed to be a safe place and this stuff happens all the time.”

The FBI admits it failed to act on a warning about Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz when informed about potentially dangerous behavior.
The warning came from a person close to Cruz on an anonymous FBI tipline warning about his possession of a gun, his disturbing social media posts, and his desire to kill people, according to the FBI.

The tip-off was delivered on January 5, 2018.

The information was not sent to the FBI Miami field office, which the FBI blamed on a failure to act under “established protocols.”

“We are still investigating the facts,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement. “I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter.”

Wray added that it was the FBI’s job to “act properly and quickly” when informed of troubling behavior by the public.

He expressed “regret” for the additional pain that the information would have for families and friends of those Cruz killed.

“All of the men and women of the FBI are dedicated to keeping the American people safe, and are relentlessly committed to improving all that we do and how we do it.”
