Trial date set for masterminds of 9/11 attacks

It has been almost two decades since the worst terrorist attack on American soil.

While it may take several more years until that justice happens, a trial date has finally been set for 5 of the men who are accused of orchestrating the 9/11 attacks.

Trial Date Set
Military judge Colonel W. Shane Cohen issued an order on Thursday for prosecuting attorneys in the 9/11 case to have all materials for the case presented by October 10. Additionally, the judge finally set the trial date for January 11, 2021.

Prosecuting attorneys will undoubtedly have little trouble meeting the judge’s demand for materials, as they have been trying to get a trial date set since 2012.
The first judge on the case, Army Colonel James Pohl, presided on the case for six years. During that time, the case was surrounded by controversy because the judge would not allow the statements made by the defendants to the FBI into evidence.

When Marine Colonel Keith Parella took over the presiding judge, he went against Judge Pohl’s decision and stated the defense attorneys needed to file motions if they wanted those statements out of evidence.

Judge Cohen now takes over the case, having to decide which route to go regarding the FBI statements from 2007.

The Right Man for the Job?
While prosecutors are ecstatic they finally have a trial date, many are questioning if Col. Cohen will be able to handle this case.

Not only has he never presided over a death penalty case, but he has also never presided over a case with multiple defendants.

If there is even a single procedural mistake made in the case, it is undoubtedly Cohen that will have to answer for it.
