After the success of the campaign to get the political wing of Hamas banned in the UK, our next big priority with our friends at Israel Britain Alliance is to shut down the possibility of local councils boycotting Israeli or Israel-connected companies they might buy services from, and divesting their big pension funds from companies connected to Israel.

Bizarrely, there is a history of some UK local authorities supporting anti-Israel boycotts and trying to boycott international contractors that also work for Israeli councils, or pull their pension fund out of an extensive list of companies that are Israeli-owned or connected to Israel.

Government Ministers have said that they agree that this is unacceptable and that it needs to be illegal for councils to undermine the UK’s relationship with Israel in this way, but we need to give Parliament a big push to legislate on this.

The more emails that are sent to local MPs, the more pressure there will be on them to vote through a new law implementing this ban.
