Hundreds of drugs have been developed to address Alzheimer’s disease, says Dr. Shahar Arzy, director of the computational neuropsychiatry lab at Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem. “Do you know how many have been found effective? Zero.”

But if patients could be diagnosed in the preclinical stages of the disease, perhaps some of the new biological medications showing excellent results in other domains of neurology could be effective when applied early enough in the course of Alzheimer’s disease.

Arzy and his colleagues have developed a computer-based system to ferret out early signs of Alzheimer’s.

The system, dubbed Clara (“a hint towards ‘clarity of mind,’” Arzy says), is an artificial intelligence-based chatbot that asks patients questions about themselves and their relationships to people, places and events.

Clara then uses machine learning to compare that information to a baseline in order to generate a computer-based test tailored for the specific individual that can diagnose very early Alzheimer’s.

Arzy’s team published research results in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and in the American Psychological Association’s journal Neuropsychology showing the method to be 95 percent accurate.

Arzy’s work on Clara is based on a relatively recent understanding of how the brain works and what Alzheimer’s does to it.

Alzheimer’s affects the brain’s “orientation system” that dictates how a person relates to the world outside. “It’s easy to test memory,” Arzy says. “I can give you three words and ask you to retrieve them.” That’s very different than processing specific relationships.

According to this ridiculous statement, the “indigenous Palestinians who live under Israel’s repressive regime have no control over their land or natural resources” and must endure Israel’s ”climate apartheid”.  Notwithstanding the BDS movement’s false accusations, the majority of Palestinians are actually governed by Mahmoud Abbas’ autonomous, corruption-plagued Palestinian Authority, which shows little to no regard for environmental conservation.
BDS aslo accuses Israel of destroying Gaza’s agriculture, saying that “Israel destroys hundred-year-old olive trees and solar energy installations’‘. Yet, the statement fails to mention the hundreds of rockets launched from Gaza and arson terror that burned thousands of acres of land in southern Israel.
They also omit the fact that Palestinians destroyed critical agricultural infrastructure, such as state-of-the-art greenhouses, when all Jews were expelled from Gaza in 2005. The Palestinians wrecked the facilities for no other reason than spite, harming themselves when they could have benefited from the infrastructure.
With regard to Israel’s impressive technological advances and environmental contributions to the world, the BDS statement says that Israel only does these things to “greenwash” its image.

A massive campaign launched by Palestinian Media Watch and aided by United with Israel supporters shuttered Fatah’s Facebook over its rampant terror incitement.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party utilizes social media to glorify terrorists as heroes and role models, and through its Facebook page “instantaneously promotes terror to its 224,000 Facebook followers,” Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) recently reported.
To combat this threat, PMW launched a campaign in February to shut down this source of pro-terror propaganda, releasing a comprehensive report on Fatah’s Facebook page documenting its terror glorification and incitement to violence throughout 2018.
The report showed that Fatah’s content was in direct violation of Facebook’s community standards. However, Facebook refused to close the page.
PMW published a new report earlier this month, documenting the terror promoting content on Fatah’s Facebook page during the first six months of 2019, which it shared with Facebook.

Simultaneously, PMW also launched a social media campaign with partner organizations worldwide urging the social media giant to immediately and permanently shut down Fatah’s page, for openly violating Facebook’s guidelines.

United with Israel, which has close to 6 million supporters, stepped up and urged its readers to lend a hand, strengthening PMW’s efforts with a call to action asking its readers to get involved.

On Wednesday, the efforts of PMW, United with Israel, and other partner organizations paid off: Fatah had to shut down their hate-filled terror-promoting page.

“We were eager to utilize United with Israel’s resources to further this cause,” said UWI founder Michael Gerbitz.

“Our dedicated supporters sent emails to Brian Fishman, director of Facebook’s global counter-terrorism team, demanding that he put a stop to the promotion of Palestinian terrorism on his platform,” he added. “Innocent lives are at risk. It’s unconscionable this incitement went on for so long.”

An Important Step
Itamar Marcus, director of PMW, said the achievement was “an important step in the war against Palestinian terror.”

He expressed hope that this will be “a permanent closure and not a short-term suspension. The more we can shut down terror promoting social media, the more lives will be saved.”

Fatah’s page has previously been suspended and reinstated by Facebook.
in the past, Facebook faced allegations and legal action over its facilitation of pages owned and used by terrorist organizations, but dodged the charges in most instances.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) media on Tuesday accused PMW of “waging a war” against its Facebook page. Fatah is the ruling party in the PA.
“The Israeli occupation (i.e. PMW) is waging a new war against the Fatah Movement’s Facebook page… The occupation is claiming that the page glorifies Palestinians that carry out operations (i.e., terror attacks) against the occupation… We in Fatah are proud of our Martyrs” Ma’an, an independent Palestinian news agency, reported.

Presidential Candidate Sues Google
When it comes to freedom of speech, it should not matter which political party a person associates themselves with. Freedom of speech is something that EVERY American should fight for and defend! And that is why when you hear the words “presidential candidate sues Google,” maybe you should not assume it was a Conservative. We should all hope that anyone would be willing to sue Google for trying to end free speech.

But in our world, we do assume that only a Conservative would sue Google. But we would all be wrong. Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard decided to sue google. She blasted them and others on the Left for trying to abolish one of the founding principles of the United States! What a bold move! Of course, this happened only once she was targeted by Google.

Tulsi Gabbard is not at all an Israel-supporter. She has many opinions that are very troubling. But on this issue, she is right. Google has way too much power to sway opinions.

The UK Labour Party’s annual conference on foreign policy included a long list of anti-Israel proposals.

On Monday, at Britain’s Labour Party’s annual conference in Brighton, speakers called for a future government to adopt blatantly anti-Israel policies. Members of the Labour Party, lead by Jeremy Corbyn, have become notorious for anti-Semitic statements and virulently anti-Israel stances.

The gathering was laced with Palestinian flags, “Free Palestine” chants and overwhelming support for boycotts of Israeli products from Judea and Samaria. Additionally, there were calls to reject trade agreements with Israel, to halt the sale of British arms to the Jewish country, and to endorse the so-called Palestinian “right to return,” which seeks to flood Israel with the descendants of Arabs who voluntarily left or were expelled from territory that became the Jewish state.

According to a poll released on Sunday, two-thirds of Labour members do not believe the party has a “serious” problem with anti-Semitism, while more than half oppose the UK signing a trade agreement with Israel after Britain leaves the European Union.

Yet, polls show that the overwhelming majority of British Jews view Corbyn as an anti-Semite. So much so, that in July, Labour launched an educational website on anti-Semitism, along with an apology video from Corbyn admitting that his party had “a real problem with anti-Semitism.” In the video, Corbyn apologized for the “hurt that has been caused to many Jewish people” and admitted that his party’s reaction to combating anti-Semitism was too slow.
Following the conference, strong reactions from pro-Israel groups spread across the internet.

Director of Labour Friends of Israel Jennifer Gerber tweeted, “Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party is the home for anti-Jewish racists and Israel haters….This is another dark day in the history of the Labour Party.”
Gerber added, “It’s no wonder the Jewish community fears the prospect of him becoming prime minister.”

Director of We Believe In Israel and a former member of Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC), Luke Akehurst noted that this is the second consecutive year in which Labour’s conference has debated Israel. “This cannot be unlinked to the pathological obsession with Israel and Jews which has driven the party’s anti-Semitism crisis,” he said according to the Times of Israel.
 
Since 2015, when Corbyn took charge of the Labour Party, it has suffered from claims that the party is anti-Semitic, leading to the suspension or expulsion of multiple members and officials. The UK’s Equality and Human Rights Commission has investigated the party.

General elections in the UK are expected to take place before the end of the year.

UN First! Report Blasts BDS as ‘Fundamentally Anti-Semitic’

The United Nations finally admitted that the virulently anti-Israel BDS movement is a significant cause of Jew-hatred worldwide.

On Monday, the United Nations (UN) released an interim report by Special Rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed that blasts the UN for its stance on BDS and exposes the movement’s role in promoting anti-Semitism.

The report, called “Combating Anti-Semitism to Eliminate Discrimination and Intolerance Based on Religion or Belief,” was presented to the Human Rights Council following recent addresses by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on anti-Semitism and religious freedom.

It discusses the “growing use of anti-Semitic tropes by white supremacists including neo-Nazis and members of radical Islamist groups,” and slams “‘left-wing’ anti-Semitism [that] employ[s] anti-Semitic narratives or tropes” to criticize Israel.


 
The report concludes “that the objectives, activities and effects of the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement are fundamentally anti-Semitic.”

Shaheed included, however, that “international law recognizes boycotts as constituting legitimate forms of political expression and that non-violent expressions of support for boycotts are, as a general matter, legitimate speech that should be protected.”

But, he stressed that “expression which draws upon anti-Semitic tropes or stereotypes, rejects the right of Israel to exist, or advocates discrimination against Jewish individuals because of their religion should be condemned.”

Holocaust Deniers and Israel Haters
Holocaust deniers, equating Zionism with racism and claiming that Israel has no right to exist were specifically noted as anti-Semitic.

Stating that the “frequency of anti-Semitic incidents appears to be increasing in magnitude,” the report notes that governments that “enact laws and policies that restrict Jewish practice, including limiting kosher slaughter methods or barring Jews from political participation in higher office” are part of the problem that “poses risks not only to Jews, but also to members of other minority communities.”


 
The report’s suggestions for confronting anti-Semitism include adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s “Working Definition of Anti-Semitism” by governments, civil society organizations and the media.

According to this definition, “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of anti-Semitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

The report also calls on leaders to “promptly, clearly, and consistently reject manifestations of anti-Semitism within their parties and in the public discourse.”

The report concluded with specific instructions for the UN.

“The UN system has a vital role to play in engaging with Jewish communities to combat anti-Semitism,” wrote Shaheed. “The Secretary-General should consider appointing a senior-level focal point in the Office of the UN Secretary-General with responsibility for engaging with the Jewish communities worldwide, as well as monitoring anti-Semitism and the response of the UN there too.”
Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon said, “We welcome the release of this unprecedented report on the subject of anti-Semitism. The report reflects the organizational change toward Israel. The assertion that the BDS movement encourages anti-Semitism is an important UN statement.”
The Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief is an independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council.

‘Hooked-Nose Jew’ Sign Language Gesture Condemned by Israeli Embassy in Belgium
The online Flemish dictionary of sign language demonstrates three ways to sign the word “Jew,” each with negative connotations.

Tuesday, following the discovery by a Jewish family that the University of Ghent in Belgium represents Jews in its online Flemish Sign Language dictionary with a hooked-nose gesture, Israel’s embassy in Belgium condemned the video.

“The Embassy of #Israel expresses its shock and dismay following the ugly initiative of creating a new sign in Flemish sign language for ‘Jew’: a hooked nose,” Emmanuel Nahshon, Israel’s ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg and former Foreign Ministry spokesperson, posted on Twitter, “Its sole purpose is the promotion of #AntiSemitic stereotypes.”

On Monday, the European Jewish Association’s director Menachem Margolin sent a letter to the rector of the University of Ghent in protest and demanded that clips with the offensive gesture be removed.

 
The Flemish Sign Language dictionary includes five videos depicting signs for “Jews.” These include Jews represented by the stroking of an imaginary beard, a widely used sign in many countries as religious Jewish men often have beards as per the biblical dictate not to shave the corners of one’s face and putting one’s finger down the sides of the ears to imply side-locks (payote), as well as the hooked nose gesture. The dictionary does note that the payote and hooked nose signs carry a negative connotation.

Margolin wrote that symbols for Jews, such as “stroking a beard” was “standard” while putting one’s finger down the side of the ears to imply side-locks was “borderline acceptable if misleading.” However, the hooked nose gesture was “simply racist and demeaning to Jews.”

“If the aim of this project was to embellish or add to the standard definition, it has certainly managed to so, in the most stereotypical and racist way imaginable, by focusing on side-locks and worse still gesticulating a hooked nose to describe a Jew,” he wrote.

Contemporary sign language has developed over the past 400 years with symbols varying from country to country. Efforts continue to be made to elimination racist and demeaning gestures, replacing them with more neutral symbols.

Positive signs for Jews are possible. For example, the Turkish place a cupped hand on their head to represent a skullcap and Brazilian Portuguese uses a triangle made with fingers against one’s chest, first upside down and then right-side up, to symbolize the Jewish star.

Lisa Rombouts, from the Flemish Sign Language Center, said a new edition of the dictionary would be published that would “clarify these matters.” according to The Guardian.

“The gesture in question is probably the oldest variant of that gesture in the dictionary,” Rombouts told De Morgen Flemish newspaper: “The video has been on our site for 15 years. We don’t want to delete that, because a dictionary describes the current situation.”

Rabbi who Predicted Trump Presidency Has Shocking New Prediction for Israel’s Next Government, Messiah

In an informal interview in his Jerusalem home, Jewish scholar and international speaker Rabbi Mendel Kessin, who believes that the world is teetering on the edge of redemption, explained what has to happen politically in order to serve the spiritual purpose of advancing redemption.

“Something [with this election] is going to happen out of nowhere that’s going to be stunning, that nobody expects. In order for the Jews to repent, to get close to God, to get close to their Torah, this government must be removed.” In his words, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “must be deposed.”


At press time, the fate of the Israeli government is still very unclear. The country is deeply divided and no obvious winner has yet emerged from the second round of voting for the 22nd Knesset.

In order to bring the Jewish people closer to Torah and prepare them to receive the elevated Torah of Messiah, Kessin predicted that the final outcome of this week’s election will be that Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will give the Likud party the option to form a coalition, but without Netanyahu at its head.

“Basically, Bibi has to be deposed. God is going to get rid of him politically,” Kessin asserted.

Kessin does not believe that the Messiah will immediately replace Netanyahu. “You need a transition guy. The person I have in mind is on the political scene. His name is Gideon Sa’ar.”

Sa’ar was a Member of Knesset from 2003-2014 and was again elected to the 21st Knesset in April of this year. Holding the sixth spot on the Likud party list, he would have to be advanced over four other Likud members for Kessin’s prediction to come true.

It wouldn’t be the first time Kessin backed a dark horse candidate. He correctly predicted that Donald Trump would win the 2016 US presidential election back when the Republican party was still flush with seasoned political candidates. Then, as now, he bases his thinking on spiritual ideas rather than political considerations.

In a public lecture delivered in Jerusalem just before the election, Kessin said, “The issue is not the Israeli elections. The issue is [that] it is time to remove the influence of people who have nothing to do with furthering God’s Torah. The Jewish people must be prepared and must be elevated in order to begin the process of redemption,” he claimed.

“It’s not only an issue in Israel. It’s the same thing in America – those Democrats that want to destroy Trump. I’ve mentioned many times who [Trump] is. He’s an Edomite – a messianic figure of Edom. His job is to assist the Jewish people to do the tikkun (to spiritually rectify the world).
Which he’s doing! Which is amazing. He doesn’t even know who he is and he’s still doing it. 

“We’re probably entering the next stage where all the Jewish settlements become part of Israel. That’s the next thing. See what God is doing? Slowly He is restoring the Jews,” explained Kessin.

In essence, Kessin is claiming that the Jewish State needs a transition leader who will help the Jews return to Torah, in preparation for the arrival of the Messiah and the full redemption. And that leader cannot be Prime Minister Netanyahu. 

What kind of  leader is necessary today? According to Kessin, “It has to be someone who can present himself as friendly and of assistance to spirituality. I’m not looking at this politically.


“Redemption is the greatest event the entire creation has ever seen. Once it starts, it’s unstoppable and irrevocable.

“People have no idea what Moshiach (Messiah) does. What he does is change reality. He takes away the fog, where everybody sees Ain Od Milvado – besides God, there is nothing else. We can’t even comprehend what that means.”

At this moment, the unclear political outcome appears to echo a spiritual battle that is being waged between the forces that want to bring redemption and the forces that want to hold it back.

“What’s happening now is there is an unbelievable fight. If you were in Heaven, you would see the battle. The Satan is desperate because his days are numbered.”

The Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip has long served as a center for various terrorist groups that are responsible for thousands of terror attacks against Israel. In the past few decades, these groups have engaged in smuggling various types of weapons from Egypt into the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian terrorists also appear to be smuggling various types of illegal drugs into the Gaza Strip. Alarmed by the increased smuggling of illegal drugs, Hamas has begun waging a campaign against the drug-traffickers.

Earlier this year, Hamas announced that its security forces seized a large shipment of hashish smuggled from Egypt into the town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
 
Later, the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Interior launched a hotline for anonymous feedback and tip-offs on drug-related crimes.

The crackdown came in the aftermath of charges that the Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip were not serious about dealing with the problem of drug trafficking.

Weapons and Drugs
According to some reports, many of the drug dealers caught by Hamas often buy their way out of prison by paying large amounts of bail in cash to Hamas-controlled courts. Some of the drug traffickers and dealers, who are known for their affiliation with Hamas, avoid prosecution: in addition to the illegal drugs, they also smuggle weapons for Palestinian terrorist groups.

Palestinian journalist Mirvat Oaf noted that the smuggling tunnels along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt have long been playing a major role in flooding the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave with various types of illegal drugs.

According to unofficial statistics, she said, the number of drug addicts in the Gaza Strip is estimated at more than 100,000. “This is a very high number for the Gaza Strip, which has a population of two million,” she added. “Three years ago, the number of drug addicts in the Gaza Strip was estimated at 200,000. These figures have shocked Palestinians.”

Instead of acknowledging their responsibility for failing to combat the drug trafficking, the leaders of Hamas have been trying to blame everyone but themselves.

These leaders are trying hard to convince Palestinians that Israel and Hamas’s rivals in the Palestinian Fatah faction, headed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, are responsible for flooding the Gaza Strip with illegal drugs.

This accusation is part of an old blood libel frequently used by Palestinians in the context of their continued incitement against Israel. The accusation is based on the fabricated claim that Israel wants to “corrupt” young Palestinians by providing them with illegal and lethal drugs.

In 2009, a Hamas spokesperson claimed that Israel was sending Viagra pills (used to treat erectile dysfunction or impotence in men) and illegal drugs to the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas-affiliated Al-Majd website has also repeatedly accused the “Zionist intelligence and its agents” of flooding the Palestinian territories with illegal drugs.

Palestinian Authority: Purveyor of Blood Libels
Hamas’s rivals in the Palestinian Authority have also been involved in the dissemination of this blood libel against Israel. In 2014, Adnan Damiri, spokesperson for the Palestinian security forces, was quoted as saying that Israel “has spit up and vomited a shocking amount of drugs onto our land.”

The Palestinians’ attempt to establish a connection between Israel and illegal drugs in Judea and Samaria and Gaza Strip is no less dangerous than their terrorist attacks against Israel. The Palestinian Authority and Hamas are sending the following message to their people: The Jews are conspiring to destroy Palestinians by delivering illegal drugs to our communities. Therefore, we need to fight these Jews to prevent them from achieving their goal.

The Palestinians have never provided a shred of evidence to corroborate this false accusation against Israel. Why should they allow the truth to get in the way of a good story? Palestinian leaders are experts when it comes to blaming Israel and Jews, instead of the real sources, for all the miseries of their people.

False accusations are also being echoed by Palestinian clerics, who are known for their overheated incitement against Israel and Jews. In 2017, for instance, the Palestinian cleric Imad Hamatu said during a Friday prayer sermon aired on the official Palestinian Authority TV channel that “Jews spread corruption, prostitution, and drugs in the Arab world.”

In his address, Hamatu claimed that the Jews, whom he called “the slayers of prophets and of the innocent,” instigated unrest in the Arab world and spread corruption, prostitution, and sex. He further alleged that US intelligence had a “Unit for Controlling the World’s Mood,” which channels Tramadol and other pills through Israel to Gaza, Jordan and the Levant. “They [control] what you and your children think,” he added.

A year later, another Palestinian cleric, Osama al-Tibi, quoting a well-known hadith — the sayings and acts of the Prophet Mohammed — announced that the conflict between the Jews and Muslims will continue until Judgement Day, when the Jews will hide behind the rocks and the trees, which will call to the Muslims to kill the Jews.

“The Jews bare their fangs whenever they get the chance. They spread corruption in the land, and they sow discord among the servants of Allah. They behave tyrannically in Allah’s land, they hatch conspiracies, and they scheme. They pursue nothing but their own interests…

“Another one of their vile traits is that they are violators of agreements and accords. [The Quran says:] ‘Why is it that every time they make a covenant, a group from among them casts it aside?’ Allah cursed them because they violated their covenant, and ‘[He] turned them into apes, pigs, and worshippers of false deities.'”

Exploitation of Women
Recently, the issue of illegal drugs in the Gaza Strip took a new turn when it became clear that the Palestinian terrorists and drug dealers were exploiting innocent women.

The revelation was made during a seminar held by human rights and women’s organizations in the Gaza Strip. Speakers at the seminar said that several Palestinian women who travelled to Egypt for medical treatment were arrested by the Egyptian authorities for possession of illegal drugs. “The women were deceived and used by drug dealers in the Gaza Strip,” the speakers charged.
 
One woman said that her mother was deceived by a drug dealer after he persuaded her to carry shampoo and creams for his relatives in Egypt. She said that her mother was now being held in harsh conditions in an Egyptian prison for possession of illegal drugs.

Hassan al-Swairki, an official with the Gaza-based “Anti-Narcotics Agency,” disclosed that at least 14 Palestinian women have fallen victim to the drug traffickers and were being held in Egyptian prison for smuggling illegal drugs into Egypt.

In keeping with the Palestinians’ blood libel, it is only a matter of time before they find a way to blame Israel and Jews for the cynical exploitation of innocent women seeking medical treatment in Egypt. These women were hoping to receive medical treatment (in an Arab country) that is denied them by their Hamas rulers in the Gaza Strip, but ended up in prison because they were duped by criminals and terrorists involved in the business of smuggling weapons and illegal drugs.

Under the current circumstances, however, it is unlikely that Palestinian leaders in Judea and Samaria and Gaza Strip will assume any responsibility for the widespread use and smuggling of illegal drugs into their territories.

They are also unlikely to denounce the criminals and terrorists who planted the narcotics in the shampoo and cream bottles of ill women before they traveled for medical treatment in Egypt. Instead, Palestinian leaders will continue to incite their people against Israel and Jews, spreading blood libels of every sort at every turn. In that way, Palestinians will continue to hunt down Jews — whether they are behind trees and rocks or in plain sight.

Yemina party member Naftali Bennett tweeted a map on Sunday that he says represents the Trump administration’s coming Arab-Israeli peace plan, or “deal of the century.” He says it’s “hell.”

The map shows a large black area over most of Judea and Samaria, with small white dots symbolizing Jewish communities connected by thin white lines that symbolize roads.

“This is the ‘deal of the century’ that will be drop on us immediately after the elections,” Bennett wrote.

“In black – Palestine.”

“In white – lone Israeli ‘islands’ within an ocean of Palestine. Surrounded 360 degrees by Hamas, Tanzim, PLO.”

“Hell for every resident of Ariel, Ofra and Kiryat Arba. The end of settlement.”

Bennett’s tweet contradicts the rosier picture painted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he announced his intention to annex the Jordan Valley and northern Dead Sea area in a Sept. 10 press conference.
He also said he would extend sovereignty over “all settlements.”

While the map does show the Jordan Valley in Israel’s hands, as well as the settlements, the latter would find themselves in a dangerous security situation as Bennett points out.

Journalist Barak Ravid tweeted that Israel might actually receive less than what the map depicts.

“This map is ‘optimistic’ from the point of view of the Right. I am not at all sure that the Trump plan adopts the extent of annexation of the Valley as presented on the Netanyahu map (about 17 percent of the West Bank only annexation in the Valley). In my opinion, the Trump plan will include annexation of 10-15 percent of the West Bank.”

Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the Labour party, has triggered a Twitter storm after reacting to comments by Benjamin Netanyahu that he would annex the Jordan Valley in the so-called West Bank.

Battling to win reelection on September 17, Netanyahu issued the pledge on Tuesday night, drawing firm condemnation from the Palestinians, Arab states, the United Nations and the European Union. He also repeated his intention to annex Israeli settlements in the wider West Bank, but in coordination with US President Donald Trump.

But the Labour leader was quick to condemn Netanyahu over his election pledge,with Jeremy Corbyn saying it would be illegal.

The pledge followed comments made by the Israeli PM earlier in the month that he would extend Israeli sovereignty to all settlements in Judea and Samaria.

He told a group of school children on the election campaign trail that  no more settlements will be evacuated, as happened in 2005 when the entire Israeli civilian presence in the Gaza Strip — known collectively as Gush Katif — was removed.

“There will be no more Gush Katif, there will be no more displacements, and with the help of God we will apply Jewish sovereignty to all communities, as part of the Land of Israel, and as part of the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said. A Likud spokesperson later clarified that the prime minister was referring to Jewish communities in the so-called West Bank.

The New York Times keeps on reaching new lows. Every time some article or tweet is written, it seems bad. And then it just keeps getting worse. And this time, they did something to degrade and dishonor every single 9/11 victim and their families. That is thousands and thousands of people that The New York Times disrespected. That is thousands of victims that The New York Times decided were not valuable enough to remember properly.

The NY Times actually blames airplanes for the tragic terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 instead of blaming Islamic terrorists. Apparently, the airplanes were responsible for murdering thousands of innocent Americans, leaving husbands without wives, wives without husbands, children without parents, parents without children and more. Apparently, terrorists had nothing to do with it. The New York Times should be completely ashamed of themselves.

To remember 9/11, The New York Times did not have victims share their thoughts. They did not have people talk about the horrors. Instead, they had a Muslim talk about how America became Islamophobic after, and how that is the biggest issue facing the United States. Wow. If The NY Times had not disgraced all the victims of 9/11 enough, they also have an article to go along with their already shameful tweet. This is actually horrifying and humiliating. Just 18 years after the shocking and traumatizing attack, this newspaper made it clear who they side with. And no, sadly, it is not America. It is not the victims. It is not the victims’ families.

The Chaos of Israeli Democracy: An Explainer

To outsiders, Israeli democracy often seems chaotic, incomprehensible and hopelessly flawed. Plenty of other adjectives might apply as well. But when you tune out the tumult of the politicians, Israel’s democratic system is healthy — even surprisingly normal by Western standards.

Israel’s form of parliamentary democracy is based on the proportional representation system. It’s pretty straight forward: the number of seats a party gets in the 120-seat Knesset, Israel’s parliament, is proportional to the number of votes the party received in an election. So, if 50 percent of the votes were cast for your party, you’d get 60 seats, 25% means you’d get 30 seats, 10% would give you 12 seats. The minimum threshold a party must reach is 3.25% of the popular vote, which is four seats.

Elections are like in other democracies: by secret ballot and supervised by an all-party Central Elections Committee headed by a Supreme Court Justice (currently Justice Hanan Melcer). Polling stations are monitored and voters are checked under the watchful eyes of scrutineers from three different parties and supervisory staff from the CEC. Voter fraud is rare, elections are considered fair and the results accurate – although often confusing until a government is formed.

Historically, no political party in Israel has ever received more than 50% of the vote, meaning coalition governments consisting of several political parties are the norm. In recent elections the highest percentage for a party has been slightly above 30%. When the results of the election are made official, the leader of the largest party is generally tasked with forming a government and has several weeks to negotiate with other parties to form a coalition that would have a minimum majority in the Knesset of 61 seats.

Israeli Democracy Based on Proportional Representation
The proportional representation system is familiar to many Europeans who also use this system, but it is somewhat strange to members of the British Commonwealth who use the British parliamentary system that is based on dividing the country up into electoral districts — similar to American elections — and electing a legislator from each district, or “riding,” as the Canadians often call them.
The specific method of the Israeli system is based on the d’Hondt system, named for Belgian Victor d’Hondt who described his formula in 1878.
Dozens of countries use this method, but Israeli democracy added a twist: excess votes a party gets that are not sufficient for another seat in the Knesset can be given to another party in what’s called a “surplus vote agreement” (formally known as the Bader-Ofer method, named after MKs Yohanan Bader and Avraham Ofer who proposed the idea in the 1970s). Surplus vote deals are registered with the CEC before the elections and the public is made aware of them. Processing the surplus votes agreements is only done after all the votes are counted, adding extra drama to the tabulation process.

All this makes Israel’s electoral system almost incomprehensible to Americans, whose presidential system happens to be the exception when it comes to forms of democracy. American elections are mandated constitutionally to occur every four years and the president is voted for separately. In parliamentary systems like Israel’s it is generally the leader of the largest political party who is prime minister.

(Israel’s president is the politically neutral figurative head of state, like the UK’s monarch Queen Elizabeth, representing the will of the people, but having no political power. Israeli presidents are chosen by the Knesset and serve a single seven-year term. That position is currently held by Reuven Rivlin.)

The Knesset plenum
In Israel, as in most parliamentary democracies, legislators are elected for what is usually a four-year term. A key difference from the American and British systems is that even though the government can fall before its four years are up, the prime minister can form a new coalition government and ask the Knesset for a vote of confidence. The PM then “takes office” again and continues to serve out the four-year term without the need for an election. If that doesn’t happen, then the country heads to the polls.

There are other circumstances where the Knesset would dissolve itself and send the country to elections:

The Knesset voluntarily votes to dissolve itself.
The Knesset fails to pass the national budget on time.
If a government does not have the support of 61 of the 120 MKs, the prime minister — with the president’s permission — can dissolve the Knesset.
Citizens are active participants in Israeli democracy with voter turnout averaging 71.6% over the past ten national elections, while in contrast voter turnout for the past ten US presidential elections has averaged only 53.4%.

The System Works

While the September 2019 elections are Israel’s 22nd trip to the polls in 70 years, there have been 34 governments during that time. That extra dozen changes of governing at times could give an appearance of instability. The opposite is the case, however. While Knesset sessions rarely complete an entire four-year term, the current average life of a session is about 3.2 years, a very acceptable, relatively stable and healthy figure when compared to other democracies.

Over the years there have been complaints about proportional representation and the outward appearance of bedlam in the plenum. The renowned British leader, Winston Churchill, famously said of democracy:

‘Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…’

In the 1980s, Israel toyed with changes to the system and convened a broad-based Knesset committee to make proposals. By 1992, the most they could agree on for improving Israeli democracy was a change allowing for the direct election of the prime minister. This resulted in many voters casting a ballot for the leader of one party to be prime minister, but then voting for a different party. The result was an unworkable situation that was finally rescinded in 2001.


Einat Wilf
Former MK and political analyst Einat Wilf says Israel’s proportional representation system works just fine. Looking from the outside at the “Startup Nation” with its high standard of living tends to bear her out.

“The system of government in Israel has many drawbacks,” Wilf said in her book on the subject, It’s not the system, stupid, “but so does every other possible method.” She noted that when examining other electoral systems none of them are without flaws.

Wilf says the problem is not with the system, but rather with the politicians and pundits who “are seeking simple solutions to complex problems.” She dismissed doomsday scenarios for Israel’s future, pointing out that Israel has weathered many political upheavals.

From a European’s perspective, “Israel is a very normative parliamentary democracy,” Wilf said. “A single constituency, proportional representation and a single house of parliament.”

“All European countries have various forms of proportional representation and coalition governments. So, the question is not about the system. Americans in general don’t understand parliamentary systems so they always ask what’s going on and they never understand, but that’s not specific to Israel.”

Arab terrorists who threw rocks at three Israeli women will pay compensation to their victims for the damage they caused.

The direct compensation of victims is unprecedented in cases of rock-throwing attacks, which are commonplace across Judea and Samaria and in Jerusalem.

The rock-throwing ambush took place two years ago near the Arab town of Sinjil in the Binyamin region. The terrorists took part in riots that occurred in response to the hunger strike of terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails.

The terrorists took massive rocks and threw them at Israeli vehicles driving on route 60, a major road that passes near the Arab town.

The three terrorists were convicted in a plea bargain of throwing rocks at a moving vehicle, were sentenced to prison terms and were ordered to monetary compensation to the victims.

Tamar Nizri and her daughters, who were hit by the rocks, described the moments of horror.

“We can’t forget that Friday afternoon, we were so excited to drive to the beach, the children wore bathing suits and had snacks, when suddenly the windshield was smashed and Arab terrorists surrounded the car, throwing rocks at us,” she recounted.

“I don’t know how I carried on driving and got out of the ambush… My nine-year-old was hurt from the glass and is still terrified every time we take a drive, asking if we will drive near Sinjil,” she said.
 
Honenu, an Israeli legal aid organization, represented the victims against the terrorists and helped them obtain the compensation. Chaim Bleicher, the Nizri family’s attorney, explained the importance of monetary compensation as a tool for deterring further violence and attacks.

“It is extremely important that victims be involved in the indictment of a terrorist. Their involvement brings a harsher outcome for the terrorists… The terrorists’ paying out of their pocket to their victims constitutes a strong message. We see the effect the punishment has in deterring potential terror, though we are still at the beginning of this process,” he said.

Brother of one of the victims says group of ‘Arabic speakers’ asked men if they are from Israel before assaulting them

Several Israelis were brutally assaulted in Poland after the assailants asked where they were from, the brother of one of the victims alleged on Sunday.

Barak Kashpizky posted to Facebook a pair of pictures of his bloodied twin brother Yotam, taken shortly after the attack, in an account that quickly went viral.

In it, Kashpizky said that Yotam had gone out to a club in Warsaw with several other Israeli students attending a summer semester abroad at the local law school.

At 4 a.m., the Israelis were approached by a group of “Arabic speakers” who asked them if they were from Israel.


 
“When they answered in the affirmative, they were relentlessly attacked, [in blows] accompanied by shouts of ‘fuck Israel,'” wrote Barak Kashpizky, adding that his brother was briefly knocked unconscious.


In addition to Yotam, who suffered a broken nose from the beating, another Israeli was briefly hospitalized. Both have since been released.

Yotam told Channel 13 later on Sunday that there were roughly four attackers who said they were from Qatar and also chanted “free Gaza” as they beat him.

“There were many, many people and club bouncers watching on the side, but nobody did anything,” Yotam said.

“History is repeating itself in Warsaw, Poland, as Poles stand by and watch, while people who ‘are not from our nation’ are beating Jews until they lose consciousnesses,” his twin Barak wrote in his post.

The victim’s brother also criticized Israel’s Embassy in Poland as well as the Foreign Ministry for not providing assistance after they notified them of the incident and “sent them to deal with the Polish police by themselves.”

The Foreign Ministry subsequently issued a statement defending its conduct, saying the Israeli consul in Warsaw has been in frequent contact with the two hospitalized victims and had “made himself available to them, as much as they needed.
“In addition, the consul recommended that they file a complaint at the local police station,” it added. “The Foreign Ministry continues to follow the event and a decision will be taken regarding further steps with the local authorities.”

Israel received surprising support from Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, who backed the Jewish state’s retaliatory strikes in Lebanon after the Hezbollah terror organization attacked IDF targets on Sunday, blaming Lebanon for the situation.

“The aggression of one state against another is prohibited by international law. A state standing by, watching battles taking place on its borders and putting its people in danger is a state that greatly neglects its responsibilities,” Minister Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa tweeted.

He further said that “it is unacceptable for Lebanon to be put in a situation of a possibility of a devastating war in which it has no glory or use.”
Bahrain further urged its citizens to leave Lebanon “immediately” after Hezbollah’s attack on Israel, “given the events and developments in the country that require everyone to take precautions.”
 
Khalifa has previously displayed public support for Israel and expressed a desire for improved relations with the Jewish state in general.

Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yisrael Katz met publicly with al-Khalifa at the State Department in Washington in July.

Al Khalifa, in his first interview with the Israeli media in June, stated, “Israel is a country of the Middle East. Israel is part of the heritage of this whole region. The Jewish People have a place among us. The Israeli public needs to trust that there are countries in the region that do want to have peace and do encourage the Palestinians to do it.”

Both sides have an interest in halting operations for now. Neither wants a full-scale war. Much will depend upon the Hezbollah reaction to the ruse with which Israel tried to calm this current upsurge. It was Israel’s strike on Hezbollah’s power center – the Dahiya quarter of Beirut – that prompted this cross-border exchange.

Israel is “extremely concerned about the growing trend of violent and murderous acts by Palestinian terrorists that cruelly target innocent Israeli children,” said Israeli Ambassador to UN.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has sent a letter to Virginia Gamba, the U.N. Under-Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict, requesting that a report be issued by the U.N. concerning the terrorist attack that took place last Friday near the Samarian community of Dolev, which led to the murder of 17-year-old Rina Shnerb.

In making his request, Danon also called for the inclusion of the stabbing attack in which 19-year-old Dvir Sorek was murdered on August 7 as an act of armed conflict involving children.

“Rina Shnerb had just celebrated her 17th birthday a week prior to the incident. Rina was making her way to a spring, accompanied by her father and her 19-year-old brother, Dvir, when an explosive device that had been hidden in the ground by terrorists detonated, leading to her death. This ruthless attack occurred several days after a 19-year-old yeshiva student [Dvir Sorek] was stabbed to death while making his way home after Torah studies,” Danon wrote.

Danon continued that Israel is “extremely concerned about the growing trend of violent and murderous acts by Palestinian terrorists that cruelly target innocent Israeli children,” adding that these attacks are glorified by the Palestinian Authority and “praised by terrorist organizations, including the Islamic Jihad and Hamas.”

The letter concluded with the ambassador urging the U.N. “to do your utmost to curb such horrific acts of violence, and also ask that you include such incidents in the Secretary-General’s annual report.”

Holocaust
The Holocaust was only one result of antisemitism in history. Jews were persecuted under Christian regimes for centuries, being expelled by Spain, Poland and even England. Jews also were persecuted under Islamic regimes for centuries.

In each and every country where Jews were expelled or persecuted it always started with the Jews but never ended with the Jews. Every society that allowed Jew hatred to permeate mainstream society ended up self-destructing.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Last week’s murderous terrorist attack reflects the ongoing struggle between Jews and Arabs for territorial control, in which Palestinians have a clearer grasp of their goal: reducing the Jewish physical presence in the state of Israel and the West Bank to a small, ghettoized, urban “villa in the jungle.”

The terrorist attack committed near Ein Buvin last Friday is about more than just unbridled evil striking down a father and his children on a summer hike. Jews and Arabs are not only fighting over freedom of movement in the country’s open spaces, but over who controls them. This struggle assumes many forms and spans all corners of the land, from the Galilee to the Negev.

From the Palestinian perspective, Jews can – perhaps – be permitted to exist in their urban high-rises and engage in their white-collar occupations in high-tech and commerce. That is the Jews’ place. The open spaces, on the other hand – the fields, springs, and pastures – these the Arab must control.

Former PM Ehud Barak used the phrase “villa in the jungle” to describe Israel’s existential experience, a metaphor worth examining. In their quest for security, the Jews exist in spaces surrounded by fences – a type of upscale, safe ghetto with boundaries they dare not cross.

On the face of it, the “villa in the jungle” metaphor represents a modern high-tech-like outlook that ascribes struggles over countries’ open spaces to an anachronistic “old world” mentality. In practice, it is a direct continuation of the millenarian diasporic Jewish experience of ghettoization, the Pale of Settlement, and denial of agricultural and farming opportunities that Zionism has sought to reverse.

In this respect, last week’s murderous attack also took aim at PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s promise that no Jewish communities will be uprooted in any future peace deal. Even if these Jews are allowed to remain in their homes, as per his promise (something no Palestinian leader has ever accepted), they will be forever trapped inside their fenced and fortified ghettoes. The open spaces are to be dominated by the Palestinians.

This, it appears, also forms the basis for the idea behind President Donald Trump’s peace deal.

For decades now, the Palestinians have understood the essence of their struggle better than the Jews have understood theirs. The purpose of the Zionist enterprise was clear long ago, and Israelis would be wise to reembrace it: reestablishment of statehood and full sovereignty in the Jews’ ancestral homeland in its full scope. Not in a small, ghettoized, urban “villa in the jungle.”
