HONEY - An Ancient Medicine Rediscovered
Honey is one of the oldest medicines. Its use is recorded in Sumerian
clay tablets estimated to be 4,000 years old, and in Egyptian papyri
dated from 1900to 1250 B.C. It is also mentioned in the Veda, the
sacred scriptures of Hinduism, thought to be about 5,000 years old,
and in the Holy Qu'ran and the Talmud. The ancient Greeks, Romans and
Chinese used honey to heal wounds and cure disease of the gut.
Until recently there was little scientific evidence to support
therapeutic used of honey. Lately, however, many studies have shown
that honey has valid medical used because of its antibacterial
activity. So how does it work? It seems that when honey touches skin,
a minute amount becomes hydrogen peroxide and of course, there are
many other "friendly acids" and components that give it amazing
healing powers. There have been numerous reports
in medical journals of this folk remedy being used as a last resort
on infected wounds, burns and ulcers that were not responding to
antibiotic treatment. The remedy was in all cases found to be
remarkably effective.
Processing and handling of honey can also affect its antibacterial
activity. Exposure of honey to light and high temperatures (i.e. as
used in pasteurization) will decrease its antibacterial activity.
Samples of honey from the same hive (and same floral source can
exhibit different antibacterial activity if treated differently.
Honey has proved useful in the treatment of burns, wounds,
gastroenteritis, stomach and skin ulcers because of its antibacterial
properties. Further laboratory and clinical analysis of its curative
properties is necessary in order to clarify its currently known
therapeutic uses and to discover other potential uses.
The best way to describe or trestify to the healing powers of honey
is testimonial. A while back I had a tooth that required root canal
work.
From time to time it would swell up and throb with pain and require a
dentist to make an incision and drain the pus. Of course this
included a prescription of pain pills and anibiotics. THEN I
discovered raw honey. Raw, unfiltered and unprocessed honey wrapped
up in a paper towel and applied under lip between the tooth and the
inside of the mouth. I layed down and watched tv and wore that honey
soaked paper towel for about 8 hours and somehow it "drew out" the
poison from my gums. It left my mouth very sweet, believe or not dry
and HEALED.
For deep cuts, wash the area then dry it and apply alcohol and
hydrogen peroxide and then pour raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized
honey deep into the cut and around the cut before wrapping it.each
day. Change the dressing daily after applying more honey. In the end,
it may not even leave a scar.
A guy wrote me about burning his leg on the muffler of a tractor and
treating it with honey with the same results. Fast healing and no
scarring. Honey is marvelously miraculous and NON-TOXIC so you can
be creative in trying it for different stuff.
Always use raw, unfiltered and unpasteurized honey. When honey is
refined and pasteurized some of the healing properties are lost.
WARNING: Honey can poison babies under 2.
