Every living thing has a body, soul and spirit.
Scriptures clearly teach that very living thing has a soul and spirit. The soul is that which feels and the spirit is that which knows. Animals have both feelings and knowledge although somewhat limited and on a much lower scale than that of man. Animals were not created in the likeness of God as men are. They are a lower type of life and they have souls and spirits in the sense of feelings, emotions, appetites, desires, passions, and a low form of knowledge, as can be seen in may Scriptures.
If there are horses in Heaven as the Scriptures teach then there must be all kinds of animals there for Heaven is called a better place, and therefore it is sure to be as good as the Earth (Hebrews 11:10-16).
Scriptures teach that there is a difference between the natural spirit of man and the spirit of beasts (Eccl. 3:21, "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?"
That there is a difference between "breath" and "spirit" (Job 34:15; Ps. 19:7; Luke 12:19; 1 Cor. 5:5; 2 Cor. 7:1) ; and that each creature has a separate spirit which is not a part of God (Num. 16:22; 27:17; Eccl. 3:21 ; Ezek. 21:7; Dan. 2:1-3; Mal. 2:15-16; Prov. 16:2; 1 Cor. 2:10-12; 14:32; Heb. 12:9, 23; 1 Thess. 5:23).
Eccl. 3:21, "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?" suggests to me that animals which are on the Earth, not those in Heaven, that die on the Earth, their spirit remains or returns to the earth.

Re: Spirit, Soul & Body video
I truly do not know who to address in this topic, but I would like to add to that which has alread been stated pertaining to the "Soul, Spirit, and Body".
In several places of scripture, it is implicated that the "Father, son, and Holy Spirit" will dwell within the believer, so if one looks at this in similarity to the "Temple", then we may see how this is accomplished, for the Holy Father will have no association with the flesh [natural man].
The outer court of the temple [here apply the body]. Unsantified, unclean and may not enter into the temple.
The inner court of the temple [here apply mans spirit] Santified, cleansed for the Lords use and service.
The most inner court [herein dwells the Father which no person can approach aside from being Holy cleansed, and herein dwells the new spirit of man given of God Himself through the Lord Jesus Christ which has been santified by His own blood].
The apostle Paul stated that the spirit of man and the new inner spirit given of God war with eachother, but greater is he that is in me than he that is in [of] this world.
Now concerning the soul of man.
Defining the soul and spirit is very difficult and I do believe that the Holy Father intended it that way for both are products of His power and will, and this is why little is written pertaining to them [separately], but it is written that the soul and spirit are joined as the bone and marrow [both dependent upon eachother] and can only be separated by the Holy Spirit.
It is commonly taught that on the 6th day of creation, that God formed a "Man" from the dust of the ground and breathed "Air" into the man so he would become alive.
This is simply not true, for in Ecc. it is written that "All" spirits come from the Holy Father, not the dust of the ground.
God did forum a human body from the dust, but that which He breathed into that body that made it become a living soul was the "spirit" of His child.
The body existed before the spirit was inserted, so the spirit/soul of man and the body of man are separate, only united as they are for the purpose of existing in this world.
God Bless

Re: Spirit, Soul & Body video
Hey Elaine,
A few days ago I sent out a little "Spirit, Soul &
Body" email and video:
http://TheSchoolOfChrist.Org/spirit-soul-body
Here's my answers to a few questions I received back:
--
Q: If the new creation happens in your spirit, why does the Bible
say, "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind?" Are
you saying to ignore the mind altogether?
A: What I said is that new creation happens in your spirit, not in
your mind. The fact that we must "renew our mind" is
proof that our minds are not automatically renewed when we are
born-again; otherwise, there would be no such instruction.
We've done a lot of teaching about mind renewal, but it
won't do any good to renew your mind if your spirit is still
bound. We discuss this in the full teaching.
--
Q: If the life of God is in your spirit, what is meant by
"saving souls"?
A: What is meant depends on who uses that term. Religion uses it to
mean "getting sinners saved." When the Bible uses the
term it has more to do with "getting saved people to renew
their minds and walk worthy of their calling." Scripture is
clear that man is composed of spirit, soul, and body. Whatever
terminology we use has to fit in with Scripture, not the other way
around.
--
Q: What about the "heart"? Is it part of the spirit, or
the soul?
A: Depends on who you ask. I'm not sure there is a definitive
answer, but we cover some possibilities in
greater detail in the audio teaching. I am more interested in
helping you understand how things actually work, even if you
can't define it in precise terms.
--
Q: Can we get it on MP3 instead of CD?
A: If you're interested getting an MP3 version, email us for
details and we'll make special arrangements.
--
Remember: in this teaching you'll learn how to tell the
difference between your Spirit, Soul and Body - what they are, how
they function, how they are different, how to recognize those
differences, and how to get your Spirit, Soul, and Body working
together in the unity that God intended.
I really believe not knowing these basic truths accounts for all
the problems Christians have with trying to hear from God, get
direction and guidance, exercise discernment, and experience deeper
revelation. They are trying to do it all with their
"head" instead of their spirit.

Chip Brogden: Spirit, Soul & Body
You have a body, but you are not your body. You think thoughts and have feelings, but you are not your thoughts and feelings. The real "you" is much deeper, and will live forever!

Our Goal: A School of Christ in Every Nation
The School of Christ is here to bring healing to those hurt by religion, to provide for the spiritual growth and maturity of all believers, and to ensure the continuity of a Christ-Centered Faith.
We believe everyone needs a place where they can learn about Jesus, and grow spiritually, without being hindered or distracted by “Churchianity.” Being “crucified by Christians” hurts! Pain is a natural, unavoidable consequence of life. So is healing. There is a time to be wounded and hurt…followed by a time to be healed and to get on with your life: to get busy living, loving, learning. We’ve been there. We can help.
We’re not starting a new movement. We are continuing in the same spirit of the original movement that Jesus started 2,000 years ago when He sent His disciples into all the world with a simple mandate: “Make disciples of all people.” God calls all of us to grow, to mature, to make progress, to advance as disciples and followers of Christ. The School of Christ is here to help you learn and grow towards Christ-centered spiritual maturity.
2 Timothy 2:2 says, “Teach these things to faithful people who can teach others.” The fact that Paul was concerned for the handing down of a Christ-centered faith is very significant. If Christ-centered teaching is not preserved and handed down to the next generation, it will be lost in the milieu of liberalism, atheism, Churchianity, and false religions. It is very nearly lost already. The Institutional Church is impotent, ineffective, and compromised beyond repair. We must do what the Institutional Church has failed to do: we must teach these things to faithful people who can teach others to ensure the continuity of the Testimony of Jesus until He returns.
You have a body, but you are not your body. You think thoughts and have feelings, but you are not your thoughts and feelings. The real "you" is much deeper, and will live forever!
