FOCUS: Sunday Observance Empty Sunday Observance

This can be very vexatious amongst Christians and in various church traditions. Some such as the Wee Frees' in Scotland who make it a condition of membership that members do not use public transport on a Sunday. I was amazed in the Bible College where my wife was the caterer as she was once told off by students for putting plates in the warming drawer on a Sunday to get ready for Monday breakfast yet the same students thought nothing of doing essays on Sundays or using the phones! and were happy to have milk on their cereals which was collected from working famers and wholesalers on Sunday or read the Monday papers!
In my family we could listen to the radio but not watch TV , play in the back garden but not in the street. (though I was converted breaking the rules watching a TV programme on a Sunday!)

For me the answer is simple God chose not to work one day in the Creation week which became the Sabbath (under the old testament law) so He set an example for resting one day a week. Even secular society hasnt tried to decimalise our 7 day week yet! The early church seems to have met on the first day of the week as their rest day and historically the church has met for worship on a sunday though it could be argued that pastors etc work harder that day than any other!

I choose not to work on Sundays because I am in a job where I dont have to and I feel Christians should make Sunday special in some way so they can meet for worship. relax, and spend time with their families but like several issues each should be persuaded in their own mind. We are not under prescriptive ceremonial laws in the new testament church and many slaves would not have had any day off. If you can have a spiritual, social, domestic, and workfree rest and refreshment day make use of it but remember jesus said the day of rest was made for man's benefit not man for the day.

How many people would like to have questions they would like awnsered but have no where to go with these questions. I realize none of us are theologians but ofter many people trying to find the same awnser can come up with some very interesing awnsers. I for one would like to know where in the bible it says we are to keep Sunday as a holy sabbath, in the same way jews did with Saterday. Any one with an awnser I would sure like to hear it. God bless all of you Berry757
