Ep.19: Looking for Fellowship in All the Wrong Places
LISTEN NOW
(March 23, 2022.) I’ve been thinking lately about fellowship – actually, re-thinking fellowship. It’s an interesting word, fellowship.
I just wrote an article titled “How to Find Fellowship Anywhere.” In that article I reveal three fellowships that you can join today. Of course, when most people think of “fellowship” they think about a church, a home group, or something to join or attend. I talk about that in the article and show you some of the problems we run into when we start looking for fellowship in all the wrong places. Kind of like that old song – “Looking for love in all the wrong places, looking for love in too many faces.” I suppose that applies to some Christians looking for love in the form of fellowship, too; looking for fellowship in all the wrong places, looking for fellowship in too many faces.
Why do we do that? I think there are a couple of reasons why…

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
When we consider that the Lord is our Shepherd, and that God’s people are the sheep of His pasture, we see both the risk and the reward.
The risk is that we will stubbornly refuse His voice and fall prey to hirelings and enemies out to steal, kill, and destroy the flock.
The reward is that God Himself will lead, feed, and protect us - if we stay close to Him.
God’s desire is for One Flock under One Shepherd, with Himself leading and the people happily following.
This did not happen in Israel.
But, as we will see, God will come down to shepherd His people directly.
Israel’s failure sets the stage for Christ, the Good Shepherd, to seek and to save that which is lost.
The Good Shepherd is the Best Shepherd, outshines all others, and provides the example for all shepherds who follow after.
Again, there is risk and reward.
The risk is that shepherds will ignore the Good Shepherd, take advantage of their flock, and face the consequences when God holds them to account.
The reward is that shepherds who follow the Good Shepherd and serve their flock will receive an abundance of blessings.
What makes the Good Shepherd so good?

Is there a place for fellowship? Absolutely! In fact, I know of three really good fellowships you can join today!
If you are looking for fellowship with people and having a hard time making the connection, or if you are fed up and burned out with “like-minded people” who turn out to be anything but, then consider joining one, two, or all three of these fellowships. You will not be disappointed!

Ep.18: Going Forth to Him
LISTEN NOW
https://theschoolofchrist.org/otc-18-going-forth-to-him
(March 16, 2022.) My observation is that all of us are called out, but not everyone has come out. Just like God’s people of old, God’s people today are so entangled in religion, so caught up in church, so mesmerized by the ministry, that they have allowed that spirit of Babylon to lead them astray from the simplicity of Christ.
You come to the Book of Revelation, chapter 18, and you hear God saying, “Come out of her, My people.” That is, come out of Babylon. But wait a minute – He’s not talking to the Jews, telling them to come out of Babylon; He’s talking to followers of Jesus who lost their first love and got seduced by the harlot! He’s referring to the religious system, the harlot church, that uses sorcery to deceive the nations, and even to deceive God’s own people and let them astray from the simplicity of Christ. Very remarkable to see history, prophetic history, repeating itself.
Now, I will tell you this much: you may be lonely, but you are not alone. I’ve been following Jesus outside the camp since 1999, and I can tell you that there is a whole community of people all over the world who have gone forth to be with Jesus, outside the camp, and they are bearing His reproach with joy and with love and with peace. And they would rather be with Jesus outside the camp, bearing His reproach, than back inside the camp without Him.

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
The Bible says that all of us like sheep have gone astray.
Sheep need to be fed, led, protected, and cared for day and night.
People are the same way.
In David we see the shepherd’s heart for God’s people, and this helps us to better understand Christ as the Good Shepherd Who follows after David, Who lays down His life for the sheep.
His individual care and personal concern for each sheep is evident in that He is willing to leave the entire flock to go and search for the one that is lost.
From the perspective of the sheep, the personal relationship with the Shepherd is the most important thing.
But from the perspective of the Shepherd, His relationship to the entire flock is just as important as His relationship with each individual sheep.
God wants to gather together in one ALL in Christ - as Jesus said, "There will be One Flock, and One Shepherd."
But like Nicodemus who couldn't grasp being "born again," I'm afraid we likewise struggle to grasp what it means to have One Flock under One Shepherd.
Clearly seeing what God has in mind for the flock helps us better understand how (and why) things went wrong in Israel when they wandered away like lost sheep from God's pure and simple intention.
Perhaps we can learn something from this that will help us better discern the dealings of the Lord with the Ekklesia today - and why Organized Religion always takes us in the wrong direction.

"Come to Me... and Learn of Me"
by Chip Brogden
“COME TO ME, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and LEARN FROM ME” (Matthew 11:28).
We could say “Come to Me” is the Gate, and “Be discipled by Me” is the Path. We could say, “Come to Me (enter into the Gate) and learn of Me (walk the Narrow Path).” Do you see that? The Gate, and the Path. It’s not just coming to Jesus, it is LEARNING of Jesus! Coming to Jesus, everyone [is] coming to Jesus – but how many are LEARNING of Him? “Come to Me and be discipled by Me. Come to Me and learn of Me...”

Dealing With Difficulty
by Chip Brogden
We should not expect things to always go as planned, even when we are indeed following the will of God, and especially when we are trying to do what we feel led to do. Sometimes it seems as if everything is rising up against us.
We ought to be able to tell the difference between the Lord preventing us and the devil hindering us. Some Christians throw everything together and treat it as all the same. They reason that if God wants them to be somewhere then He will work everything out in their favor. They think if it is God’s will then it will just automatically happen without any trouble at all. Scripture and the experience of countless saints prove otherwise....

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
One of the greatest revelations I ever received was the realization that God only has One Flock and One Shepherd...
"They will hear My Voice, and there will be One Flock, and One Shepherd" (Jn. 10:16).
Just as there is One Body with many members, so there is One Flock with many sheep - and one Shepherd.
At least, that is God's intention.
What we see instead reflects the divisive spirit of religion and denominationalism: 45,000 denominations globally, not counting all the non-denominational and independent churches.
Someone has said that Sunday morning is the most divided time of the week.
How do fix this?
I don't think we can.
I don't think we should.
I don't think we're supposed to revive or reform something God never intended to begin with - we must repudiate it, not repair it.
In The School of Christ we teach the Three R's: Remember, Repent, and Return (Rev. 2:5).
That is: Remember the height from which you have fallen, Repent, and Return to your First Love.
A Christ-centered faith is based on a relationship with Jesus, not a religion about Jesus.
And the "One Flock, One Shepherd" motif is a useful way to consider the uniqueness of this love relationship that triumphs over religion.
We'll begin to discuss this in depth at this week's online Bible study...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
I have a Scriptural, spiritual, and philosophical belief that Good WILL ultimately triumph over Evil.
That's why I love to talk about God's Redemptive Purpose.
It means fixing something broken so our original purpose can be fulfilled: a people filled with the light, life, and love of God.
Were it not for God sending His Son to save the world, He might have simply remained where He was, in the bosom of the Father and sharing His Father's glory.
Jesus did not have to come to earth to prove anything, or to gain anything for Himself.
But love compelled Him to be sent, and love compelled Him to freely give Himself - not to destroy, but to save.
But even THIS is not enough; because God wants more for us than salvation, healing, and deliverance.
He does not just want us to overcome Evil, but wants to RESTORE everything that has been lost to Evil!
God relates to our losses, because He has lost even more.
Though it seems for a time Evil has the upper hand, it cannot prevail.
How will God restore all things in Christ?
We'll discuss that in this week's online Bible study...

The Gift of Christ
by Chip Brogden
I am afraid that we do not truly appreciate the fact that God has never given us things, but has summed up everything into Christ, having poured Himself into His Son.
Having the Son, possessing the Son, being one with the Son, we have and possess everything God is. It never has been a question of seeking ten, one hundred, or one thousand different things from God. If we do not know from our experience, we should at least know from the Scriptures, that Christ is the Gift of God. Then our experience will come into line with God’s Thought. If you are used to seeking spiritual “things” (love, joy, peace, anointing, power, blessing, etc.) then this message is particularly for you, but we all stand to benefit from being reminded constantly that Christ is God’s One Gift...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
The devil is defeated, but not destroyed.
There remains a spirit force that actively resists God's Greatness and Goodness.
In fact, knowing that "his time is short," the devil is working all the harder against God's Kingdom.
You may wonder why God defeated the devil in the cross but did not destroy him.
God will destroy death, but not the devil.
Why?
It could be that God simply does not destroy spirit beings once they are created.
To create a spirit (or a person), give them free will, and then destroy them when they choose wrongly really defeats the purpose of free will.
Destroying the devil is really "too easy" - it suggests that God isn't wise enough to overcome evil with good, but has to resort to the use of force.
Obliteration is the kind of solution we naturally look for: just eliminate opposition, silence them, cancel them, excommunicate them, execute them.
It's the coward's way out.
God, being infinitely more wise, does not have to destroy something to defeat it.
In fact, it could be that defeating it without destroying it is a kind of ongoing testimony that Light is greater than Darkness, Life is greater than Death, and Love is greater than Fear.
Better to defeat something a million times over than to destroy it in one blow.
Even so, it presents a challenge for us.
How do we respond to evil?
More specifically... how does God equip us for overcoming a defeated foe that still tries to steal, kill, destroy, lead astray, corrupt, seduce, and deceive?
That will be the subject of this week's online Bible study...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
The first step in God’s Redemptive Purpose is to save the world.
This starts with saving us from satan and his lies; only then can we receive the forgiveness of sins, which is the Second Birth.
But the work of salvation continues until we are literally “saved from our selves,” which is the transformation of Self through perfection in Love.
It is in this sense that salvation is past, present, and future – not just Jesus in the Cross, but Jesus in my heart, provides for a full, complete, and total salvation from satan, from Sin, and from Self.
But what about the tremendous pain, suffering, and damage caused by satan, Sin, and Self?
We will consider God’s answer to that in the next message in our series...

The Infinite Supply of the Lord
by Chip Brogden
The Life of the Lord is always looking for expression through a willing vessel that is both yielded and empty.
It is never a question of how to get the Life to flow, or how to get the Lord to move. To tap into the Infinite Supply it is only a matter of being yielded to the Lord and emptied of ourselves. When this happens then the Life will flow of its own accord...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
Jesus said He was sent "to preach the Gospel to the poor" (Lk. 4:18).
I have nothing against making money - we need money to live, eat, and pay our bills.
I don't have anything against having more than enough - God blesses us so we can be a blessing to others.
But I can guarantee you this!
The message Jesus brought to the poor was NOT about how to get worldly wealth, prosperity, and "success" the way the world (and many modern-day preachers) measures success.
The Gospel means "Good News."
What would be "good news" to the spiritually poor?
That their sins are forgiven, their debts are cancelled, and they are FREE.
In the context and spirit of Jesus' mission in Luke 4, this seems most appropriate.
It is the FIRST part of the Good News - not the only thing there is, mind you - but a very important first step: Forgiveness of Sins.
By proclaiming "the acceptable year of the Lord" Jesus was declaring God's Jubilee for all people, that wonderful event every 50 years when debts were forgiven, slaves were set free, and lost lands were restored to their original owners.
Forgiveness of sins is only the beginning - but what a powerful beginning it is!
It is the first step in Redemption... and that is what we will examine this week...

Religion: The Strong Delusion
by Chip Brogden
What we see in 2 Thessalonians 2 is not a literal antichrist who comes and sits down in a literal temple, but what we see is a warning of a religious system that will rise up from within the Body of Christ.
Second Thessalonians 2 is not talking about a Hitler-type world leader sitting down and defiling a literal temple being rebuilt in Jerusalem. It is a prophetic warning that a religion about Jesus is going to try and overcome having a relationship with Jesus. This Institutional Church that has been around for nearly 2000 years has almost completely drowned out the prophetic word; it fights against the revelation of Christ; it is self-centered instead of Christ-centered; it seduces and leads God’s people astray from the simplicity of Christ...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hello Elaine,
1. What are we saved FOR?
2. What are we saved FROM?
Answering those two questions goes way beyond a kindergarten discussion of heaven and hell.
In fact, Scripture reveals a marvelous plan that includes salvation but goes beyond salvation.
Join us tonight as we begin to examine...
