Despite rumors, the head of the Central Intelligence Agency said that his organization had no involvement in the protests that have gripped Iran.
Mike Pompeo, who was nominated to the post by President Donald Trump, and assumed duties on Jan. 23, 2017, says that the reason for the protests is the dire economic situation in Iran — and he expects the violent unrest will continue.
“The issue with the protests in Iran is very real. Economic conditions in Iran are not good, that’s what caused the people to take to the streets. President Trump made it very clear that American supports the Iranian people,” he told Fox News. Pompeo said that the protests are the regime’s fault because it has ignored the voices of its own people.
It’s The Economy
Pompeo also poured cold water on Iranian prosecutor general Mohammad Javad Montazeri’s claim that the CIA worked with Saudi Arabia and Israel to use Iranian dissident groups to sow the seeds of protest.
“False. It was the Iranian people, started by them, created by them, continued by them, demanding a better set of living conditions and a break from the theocratic regime that has been with them since 1979,” Pompeo said.
“Meanwhile the Iranian regime threatens violence,” said Pompeo. “Qassem Soleimani [the Quds Force commander] wastes their money in places like Lebanon and Syria and Yemen, trying to foment goodness knows what…” he said.
“That is a backward-looking regime, a theocratic regime that is looking backwards. Instead of a regime that is looking to make the lives of their people better,” he added.
Are The Protests Over?
Iran declared on Sunday that the protests were done, but Director Pompeo says that is not the case.
He said that he expects the Iranian people will continue to protest against Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamanei, President Hassan Rouhani and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.
“It is my full expectation that you will see the Iranian people continue to revolt against this,” Pompeo told Fox News.
Blaming Everyone Other Than Itself
Iran has blamed everyone other than itself for the protests.
In addition to the CIA, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, it has blamed the Kurdistan Region. According to Rudaw.net, the KRG leader denies this claim:
KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani of the KDP emphasized the importance of the stability of Iran for the Kurdistan Region, denying the Iranian claims at a press conference in Sulaimani on Monday.
“It is more like a comedy than reality, even the way it was said. We, in the Kurdistan Region, do not have a hand in these problems with Iran. Iran is an important neighbor,” he said.
One pro-reform Iranian parliament member confirmed that foreign agents were not involved, Rudaw.net reported:
Mahmoud Sadeqhi, an Iranian MP who attended a closed session of legislature on Sunday with the ministers of intelligence and interior in attendance, wrote on Twitter that no foreign agent was involved in the protests.
“Based on the accounts of the intelligence officials, there has not been any foreign actor involved in the recent unrests,” Sadeqhi, an MP representing Tehran, said on Sunday.

A top Israeli official warned on Monday that Iran is boosting Hamas’s terror campaign in the Gaza Strip. Intelligence Minister Israel Katz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the rogue regime, which is facing its biggest challenge from protesters since 2009, is directly involved in supporting terror threats from Hamas. Hezbollah, which is also backed by Iran, poses a further threat.
Israel must consider the threats and work to “change the situation,” with cooperation from the U.S, Saudi Arabia, and other Sunni states if possible, he said.
Iran boosting Hamas
“In recent days, while we face the known threat from Gaza, there is a direct Iranian intervention. Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas are involved in operative preparations to upgrade the threat to Israel from the direction of Gaza,” Katz stated.
Katz said that it’s “amazing how everything has to do with Iran”, whether it’s “their nuclear aspirations and the need to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons… the attempt to improve its military preparedness in Syria, training Shi’ite militias [or] actions improving Hezbollah missiles.”
Katz warned that Israel faces a “much more challenging threat [….] if we don’t change direction.” Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based terror group, has Iran’s backing.
Iran engaged more directly with Hamas after the group was forced to leave Qatar following Saudi pressure, he said. Katz noted potential for cooperation between Israel and the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and some Sunni states based on shared interests.
Gaza threats
Terror threats against Israel have escalated within the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials blamed Hamas for three mortar shells fired at southern Israel on Friday.
Katz advocates the construction of an artificial island off the coast of Gaza with a port to make the coastal region more independent. He said that the port would relieve Israel of the burden of managing land crossings and bringing goods into the region by land, which he called a “ticking time bomb.”
“When we talk about Gaza, we need to separate civilian matters from security as much as possible, and remove Israeli responsibility for civilians in Gaza as much as possible, giving them an opening to the world with security supervision,” he said.
Hopeful for regime change in Iran
Katz was clear that Israel was not involved in the protests sweeping the Islamic Republic. But he expressed hope that the protests would end with regime change.
“We want to see the repressive regime removed and replaced with a democracy. We don’t intervene, but we wish luck to the Iranian people in pursuit of freedom and democracy,” he stated.
If the regime were to fall, most of the Iranian threats to Israel would disappear, he noted. Iran sponsors terror threats in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza against Israel’s existence.
“It’s not that they love Zion, it’s a question of whether resources should be used to support terror and aggression in Syria, Lebanon and Gaza. All these developments require Israel to consider them and try to change the situation,” said Katz.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday expressed his support to the Iranian protesters through social media and denied Israeli involvement with the protests. He praised the protesters on their “noble quest for freedom.”
Iran must be stopped. As the Conservative Institute’s Daniel Vaughan writes, “It’s […] time for the United States to act — not sit on the sidelines like the previous administration. We have the power of sanctions and can tighten the noose around an illegitimate regime.”

In 2009, when similar protests erupted in Iran against the totalitarian regime, former President Barack Obama willfully turned his back on the plight of the Iranian people to gain favor with the Iranian government. However, President Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence are rallying behind the oppressed Iranian people in their quest for freedom.
Pence tweeted his support for the Iranian people on Monday and reassured them that as long as the Trump administration is in the White House, their plight will not be ignored and that they will have the full backing of the United States.
The Vice-President’s tweet marks a drastic foreign policy shift from the previous administration.
“Shameful Mistake”
It has been several days since the Iranian protests began and the brutal regime is cracking down hard on the protestors, killing 13 so far. There are many theories as to why the Iranian people are protesting against their government, however, an appetite for more freedom seems to be the most obvious one.
Women have been seen removing their hijabs in defiance of Islamic fundamentalism and the theocratic government, which can be a death sentence in Iran. Many protestors have called for the death or removal of the supreme leader Ayatollah Khameini and have demanded free and fair elections.
Mike Pence has made it clear that the White House is watching the protests very closely and showcased his support for the Iranian people in a series of tweets:

Seeds of Change
During the “Arab Spring,” many fundamentalist Muslim countries saw protests erupt and nearly overthrow their governing bodies and leaders. Iran revolution was one of the more promising of the bunch, but it was left out to dry by the Obama administration.
The Obama administration talked a big game when it came to freedom but did little or nothing to spread freedom throughout the world. Obama appeased the Ayatollah in Iran, routinely conversed with dictators (Castro, Chavez, etc..), and consistently sabotaged Israel’s military plans.
In 2009, Obama had the ability to foment change in Iran and potentially eliminate the Iranian regime as a regional and future nuclear power. Instead, Obama said he was “troubled” by violence against the protestors by the government and did nothing to aid the protestors.
The government quickly squashed the protests and returned to their oppressive ways, while the United States sat and watched all of this happen to freedom-loving people.
No one knows what the outcome of the Iranian protests will be, but hope springs eternal. This is not the first protest and it will certainly not be the last. We are potentially witnessing the death-knell of the theocratic Iranian regime and its loosening grip on the Middle East.
The current occupant of the White House is on the side of freedom and the protestors. Unlike Obama, Trump will do what he can do foment change and hopefully remove the Iranian threat while providing freedom to the Iranian people.

Israel faces threats on several fronts as it enters its 70th year, but the Iranian threat looms above all the others, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gadi Eizenkot said Tuesday at a conference on “The Army and Israeli Society” at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya.
Analyzing potential threats facing Israel in the coming year, Eizenkot pointed to five different fronts that he sees as Israel’s biggest security challenges: Lebanon, Syria, Judea and Samaria, Gaza and Sinai, but added that Iran has a hand in all those threats.

Rampant political protests have plagued Iran for the last several days, as concerned citizens demonstrate against “economic hardships and alleged government corruption.” But the Iranian government isn’t doing anything to rectify the situation and win back the hearts of its constituents — in fact, they’re only making matters worse.
Iran’s interior ministers, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, announced on Sunday that protesters who break the nation’s strict laws should “pay the price.”
“Those who damage public property, violate law and order and create unrest are responsible for their actions and should pay the price,” Fazli said.
This comes as the country’s government has censored messaging apps like Telegram and social media platforms like Instagram in an effort to curb protests.
Protests Continue
At least 12 demonstrators have died in the most recent round of protests in Iran, which began on Thursday. The government has reportedly blamed “foreign agents” for two of these deaths.
“No shots were fired by the police and security forces. We have found evidence of enemies of the revolution, Takfiri groups [also known as Sunni militants], and foreign agents in this clash,” Habibollah Khojastehpour, the deputy governor of Iran’s Lorestan province, said.
Iran’s state television station attributed the other ten deaths to “security forces.”
“Some armed protesters tried to take control of some police stations and military bases but they met strong resistance from security forces,” the station told Reuters, but gave no other details other than footage of the damaged property.
Meanwhile, some protesters have “attacked banks and government buildings and burned a police motorcycle,” according to the Wall Street Journal, leading to hundreds of arrests. Others have reportedly chanted “death to Rouhani,” meaning the country’s president Hassan Rouhani, and “death to the dictator,” which The Hill reported referred to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Leaders Try to Subdue Demonstrations
Protests of this nature have plagued Iran since the country’s 2009 presidential election, which some have accused of being dishonest. Protesters are also concerned about the country’s crumbling economy: unemployment rose 1.4 points to 12.4 percent this fiscal year, and youth unemployment reportedly reached a whopping 28.8 percent in 2016.
But whatever the demonstrators’ motivations, Iranian leaders are showing little tolerance for the protests.
“The government will show no tolerance for those who damage public properties, violate public order and create unrest in the society,” President Rouhani said. “Criticism and protest is the people’s right; it must solve the problems of the country and improve people’s lives… It is different from violence and destruction of public property.”
For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed support for the protests, and promised that the U.S. is “watching closely.”

Starting with God
“The Lord God... put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. It seemed so simple. It was a perfect world, filled with abundance. Every need was met. Everything was good. There was no sickness or poverty, crime or war.
Into that world God placed Adam and Eve. They didn’t have to understand everything. They just had to follow God’s rules and do the work they had been assigned, to cultivate and keep the garden. Otherwise, they had freedom, and just one restriction: They were not to eat from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
The consequences of violating this rule seemed clear: They would “surely die.” They may not have understood death and the implications. They just had to obey God. Ultimately, this meant trusting Him. But that proved to be difficult.
We know how this story ends. How the serpent deceived Eve, and convinced her, and then Adam, to break God’s rule. How they could not resist the temptation to defy God and see what would happen. As a consequence of their disobedience, they were banned from this perfect garden. And sin entered the world (along with death, crime, and many other evils).
Since that time, every generation, every person, has faced similar decisions. How to respond to God’s Word. To each of us, in our own ways, He offers us the path to maximum blessings and fulfillment. This means obeying Him, following His rules, not fighting or resisting Him, and ultimately, simply trusting Him.
For you, remember that the path to receive the richest blessings starts with a commitment to this principle: Start with God. Each project. Each decision. Each day.

A top Israeli official warned on Monday that Iran is boosting Hamas’s terror campaign in the Gaza Strip. Intelligence Minister Israel Katz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the rogue regime, which is facing its biggest challenge from protesters since 2009, is directly involved in supporting terror threats from Hamas. Hezbollah, which is also backed by Iran, poses a further threat.
Israel must consider the threats and work to “change the situation,” with cooperation from the U.S, Saudi Arabia, and other Sunni states if possible, he said.
Iran boosting Hamas
“In recent days, while we face the known threat from Gaza, there is a direct Iranian intervention. Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas are involved in operative preparations to upgrade the threat to Israel from the direction of Gaza,” Katz stated.
Katz said that it’s “amazing how everything has to do with Iran”, whether it’s “their nuclear aspirations and the need to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons… the attempt to improve its military preparedness in Syria, training Shi’ite militias [or] actions improving Hezbollah missiles.”
Katz warned that Israel faces a “much more challenging threat [….] if we don’t change direction.” Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based terror group, has Iran’s backing.
Iran engaged more directly with Hamas after the group was forced to leave Qatar following Saudi pressure, he said. Katz noted potential for cooperation between Israel and the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and some Sunni states based on shared interests.
Gaza threats
Terror threats against Israel have escalated within the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials blamed Hamas for three mortar shells fired at southern Israel on Friday.
Katz advocates the construction of an artificial island off the coast of Gaza with a port to make the coastal region more independent. He said that the port would relieve Israel of the burden of managing land crossings and bringing goods into the region by land, which he called a “ticking time bomb.”
“When we talk about Gaza, we need to separate civilian matters from security as much as possible, and remove Israeli responsibility for civilians in Gaza as much as possible, giving them an opening to the world with security supervision,” he said.
Hopeful for regime change in Iran
Katz was clear that Israel was not involved in the protests sweeping the Islamic Republic. But he expressed hope that the protests would end with regime change.
“We want to see the repressive regime removed and replaced with a democracy. We don’t intervene, but we wish luck to the Iranian people in pursuit of freedom and democracy,” he stated.
If the regime were to fall, most of the Iranian threats to Israel would disappear, he noted. Iran sponsors terror threats in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza against Israel’s existence.
“It’s not that they love Zion, it’s a question of whether resources should be used to support terror and aggression in Syria, Lebanon and Gaza. All these developments require Israel to consider them and try to change the situation,” said Katz.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday expressed his support to the Iranian protesters through social media and denied Israeli involvement with the protests. He praised the protesters on their “noble quest for freedom.”

In 2009, when similar protests erupted in Iran against the totalitarian regime, former President Barack Obama willfully turned his back on the plight of the Iranian people to gain favor with the Iranian government. However, President Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence are rallying behind the oppressed Iranian people in their quest for freedom.
Pence tweeted his support for the Iranian people on Monday and reassured them that as long as the Trump administration is in the White House, their plight will not be ignored and that they will have the full backing of the United States.
The Vice-President’s tweet marks a drastic foreign policy shift from the previous administration.
“Shameful Mistake”
It has been several days since the Iranian protests began and the brutal regime is cracking down hard on the protestors, killing 13 so far. There are many theories as to why the Iranian people are protesting against their government, however, an appetite for more freedom seems to be the most obvious one.
Women have been seen removing their hijabs in defiance of Islamic fundamentalism and the theocratic government, which can be a death sentence in Iran. Many protestors have called for the death or removal of the supreme leader Ayatollah Khameini and have demanded free and fair elections.
Mike Pence has made it clear that the White House is watching the protests very closely and showcased his support for the Iranian people in a series of tweets:

Seeds of Change
During the “Arab Spring,” many fundamentalist Muslim countries saw protests erupt and nearly overthrow their governing bodies and leaders. Iran revolution was one of the more promising of the bunch, but it was left out to dry by the Obama administration.
The Obama administration talked a big game when it came to freedom but did little or nothing to spread freedom throughout the world. Obama appeased the Ayatollah in Iran, routinely conversed with dictators (Castro, Chavez, etc..), and consistently sabotaged Israel’s military plans.
In 2009, Obama had the ability to foment change in Iran and potentially eliminate the Iranian regime as a regional and future nuclear power. Instead, Obama said he was “troubled” by violence against the protestors by the government and did nothing to aid the protestors.
The government quickly squashed the protests and returned to their oppressive ways, while the United States sat and watched all of this happen to freedom-loving people.
No one knows what the outcome of the Iranian protests will be, but hope springs eternal. This is not the first protest and it will certainly not be the last. We are potentially witnessing the death-knell of the theocratic Iranian regime and its loosening grip on the Middle East.
The current occupant of the White House is on the side of freedom and the protestors. Unlike Obama, Trump will do what he can do foment change and hopefully remove the Iranian threat while providing freedom to the Iranian people.

An important guideline for the things that should be done first, is to choose the best "thing". In the NEW COVENANT, a priority is listed that one may consider:
PRIORITY IN AWARENESS — "Knowing this first: Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying — Where is the promise of HIS coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." [2 Peter 3. 3 - 4] The natural man, having initial intellectual heresy these days, is the anti-GOD philosophy of believing in a natural evolution, as is briefly outlined in this passage from SCRIPTURE.
PRIMARY IN BEHAVIOR — "First cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also." [Matthew 23. 26] The thoughts of our hearts will inevitably control the words on our lips, and the works of our hands, and the path we walk in.
PRINCIPLE IN GIVING — "They first gave themselves to the LORD." [2 Corinthians 8. 5] Whatever possessions, wealth, aptitude, time, privileged circumstances or any other resources belong to the LORD GOD. However such gifts are acceptable to the MASTER only when they are offered by the one whose heart first has been given fully to HIM.
MOST IMPORTANT IN WITNESSING — "For I delivered to you first of all...that CHRIST died for our sins according to the SCRIPTURES, and that HE was buried, and that HE rose again the third day according to the SCRIPTURES." A top Israeli official warned on Monday that Iran is boosting Hamas’s terror campaign in the Gaza Strip. Intelligence Minister Israel Katz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the rogue regime, which is facing its biggest challenge from protesters since 2009, is directly involved in supporting terror threats from Hamas. Hezbollah, which is also backed by Iran, poses a further threat.
Israel must consider the threats and work to “change the situation,” with cooperation from the U.S, Saudi Arabia, and other Sunni states if possible, he said.
Iran boosting Hamas
“In recent days, while we face the known threat from Gaza, there is a direct Iranian intervention. Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas are involved in operative preparations to upgrade the threat to Israel from the direction of Gaza,” Katz stated.
Katz said that it’s “amazing how everything has to do with Iran”, whether it’s “their nuclear aspirations and the need to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons… the attempt to improve its military preparedness in Syria, training Shi’ite militias [or] actions improving Hezbollah missiles.”
Katz warned that Israel faces a “much more challenging threat [….] if we don’t change direction.” Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based terror group, has Iran’s backing.
Iran engaged more directly with Hamas after the group was forced to leave Qatar following Saudi pressure, he said. Katz noted potential for cooperation between Israel and the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and some Sunni states based on shared interests.
Gaza threats
Terror threats against Israel have escalated within the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials blamed Hamas for three mortar shells fired at southern Israel on Friday.
Katz advocates the construction of an artificial island off the coast of Gaza with a port to make the coastal region more independent. He said that the port would relieve Israel of the burden of managing land crossings and bringing goods into the region by land, which he called a “ticking time bomb.”
“When we talk about Gaza, we need to separate civilian matters from security as much as possible, and remove Israeli responsibility for civilians in Gaza as much as possible, giving them an opening to the world with security supervision,” he said.
Hopeful for regime change in Iran
Katz was clear that Israel was not involved in the protests sweeping the Islamic Republic. But he expressed hope that the protests would end with regime change.
“We want to see the repressive regime removed and replaced with a democracy. We don’t intervene, but we wish luck to the Iranian people in pursuit of freedom and democracy,” he stated.
If the regime were to fall, most of the Iranian threats to Israel would disappear, he noted. Iran sponsors terror threats in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza against Israel’s existence.
“It’s not that they love Zion, it’s a question of whether resources should be used to support terror and aggression in Syria, Lebanon and Gaza. All these developments require Israel to consider them and try to change the situation,” said Katz.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday expressed his support to the Iranian protesters through social media and denied Israeli involvement with the protests. He praised the protesters on their “noble quest for freedom.”
Iran must be stopped. As the Conservative Institute’s Daniel Vaughan writes, “It’s […] time for the United States to act — not sit on the sidelines like the previous administration. We have the power of sanctions and can tighten the noose around an illegitimate regime.”

In 2009, when similar protests erupted in Iran against the totalitarian regime, former President Barack Obama willfully turned his back on the plight of the Iranian people to gain favor with the Iranian government. However, President Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence are rallying behind the oppressed Iranian people in their quest for freedom.
Pence tweeted his support for the Iranian people on Monday and reassured them that as long as the Trump administration is in the White House, their plight will not be ignored and that they will have the full backing of the United States.
The Vice-President’s tweet marks a drastic foreign policy shift from the previous administration.
“Shameful Mistake”
It has been several days since the Iranian protests began and the brutal regime is cracking down hard on the protestors, killing 13 so far. There are many theories as to why the Iranian people are protesting against their government, however, an appetite for more freedom seems to be the most obvious one.
Women have been seen removing their hijabs in defiance of Islamic fundamentalism and the theocratic government, which can be a death sentence in Iran. Many protestors have called for the death or removal of the supreme leader Ayatollah Khameini and have demanded free and fair elections.
Mike Pence has made it clear that the White House is watching the protests very closely and showcased his support for the Iranian people in a series of tweets:

Seeds of Change
During the “Arab Spring,” many fundamentalist Muslim countries saw protests erupt and nearly overthrow their governing bodies and leaders. Iran revolution was one of the more promising of the bunch, but it was left out to dry by the Obama administration.
The Obama administration talked a big game when it came to freedom but did little or nothing to spread freedom throughout the world. Obama appeased the Ayatollah in Iran, routinely conversed with dictators (Castro, Chavez, etc..), and consistently sabotaged Israel’s military plans.
In 2009, Obama had the ability to foment change in Iran and potentially eliminate the Iranian regime as a regional and future nuclear power. Instead, Obama said he was “troubled” by violence against the protestors by the government and did nothing to aid the protestors.
The government quickly squashed the protests and returned to their oppressive ways, while the United States sat and watched all of this happen to freedom-loving people.
No one knows what the outcome of the Iranian protests will be, but hope springs eternal. This is not the first protest and it will certainly not be the last. We are potentially witnessing the death-knell of the theocratic Iranian regime and its loosening grip on the Middle East.
The current occupant of the White House is on the side of freedom and the protestors. Unlike Obama, Trump will do what he can do foment change and hopefully remove the Iranian threat while providing freedom to the Iranian people.

Video posted on social media showed crowds of people, some chanting “Death to the dictator!”, walking through the streets. Reuters was not immediately able to verify the footage. The Fars news agency reported on “scattered groups” of protesters in the capital Tehran and said a ringleader was arrested.
The continuation of protests poses a challenge for clerical leaders as well as President Hassan Rouhani who appeared on TV on Sunday to call for calm, saying Iranians had the right to criticize authorities but must not cause unrest.

“The government will show no tolerance for those who damage public property, violate public order and create unrest in society,” Rouhani said. Hundreds of people have been arrested, according to officials and social media sites.
Unsigned statements on social media urged Iranians to demonstrate again in Tehran and 50 other towns and cities.
State TV said armed demonstrators had tried and failed to seize police and military bases. The intelligence ministry said “rioters and agitators of public-unrest” had been arrested, ISNA news agency reported.
“Some armed protesters tried to take control of some police stations and military bases but they met strong resistance from security forces,” state TV said. It gave no further details and there was no independent confirmation.
State television said 10 people were killed in several cities on Sunday night and showed footage of damage to property. It did not elaborate.

Frustrations over economic hardships and alleged corruption erupted in Iran’s second city of Mashhad on Thursday and escalated into calls for the religious establishment in power since the 1979 revolution to step down.
Some of the anger was directed at Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, breaking a taboo surrounding the man who has been supreme leader of Iran since 1989.
In the western city of Kermanshah Iranians chanted “Death to Khamenei!” and “If you fight, we will fight!”.
Iran is a major OPEC oil producer and regional power but frustrations have grown at home - where youth unemployment reached 28.8 percent last year - while the country is deeply involved in Syria and Iraq as part of a battle for influence with rival Saudi Arabia.

Regional governor Mostafa Samali told Fars that just one person had been killed in an incident unrelated to the protests, and the suspected shooter had been arrested.
Demonstrations turned violent in Shahin Shahr in central Iran. Videos showed protesters attacking the police, turning over a car and setting it on fire. Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the footage.
There were also reports of unrest in the western cities of Sanandaj and Kermanshah as well as Chabahar in the southeast and Ilam in the southwest.
The government said it would temporarily restrict access to the Telegram messaging app and Instagram. There were also reports that mobile access to the internet was being blocked in some areas.

“The entire world understands that the good people of Iran want change,” the president later added in remarks. “Other than the vast military power of the United States…Iran’s people are what their leaders fear the most. This is what causes the regime to restrict internet access, tear down satellite dishes, shoot unarmed student protesters, and imprison political reformers.”

Iranian People Want a New Government
In elections earlier this year, Hassan Rouhani, the leader of the Iranian reformist party and current president of Iran, won in a sweeping victory. Rouhani is a moderate cleric who ran on a platform of opening Iran to the world to remove international sanctions and providing more freedoms domestically.
His initial victory came in 2013 when he defeated Mahmoud Ahmedinijad with just over 50 percent of the vote. This past May, however, he won a second term by a much larger margin.
Winning 23.5 million to 15.8 million against his ultra-conservative opponent, Rouhani’s landslide was a symbol of change in Iran. The Guardian reported:
“Yesterday, you said no to those who wanted us to return to the past,” [Rouhani] told the nation [at the time]. The scale of his victory provides a strong platform to challenge hardliners who still hold ultimate control in Iran’s unwieldy hybrid of theocracy and democracy.
But Rouhani’s remarks are hardly more than symbolic for the nation led by dictatorial leaders like Ayatollah Khamenei, who Trump warned in a recent talk:

Prior to today, other reports have emerged that the regime is violently repressing the protesters. A video shared on social media showed two young men lying in a pool of blood, with a voiceover explaining that they had been shot by Iranian security forces, according to Reuters. Reuters further reported:
Social media video from Mashhad showed protesters overturning a riot police car and police motorcycles set ablaze.
In Tehran, the semi-official news agency Fars said up to 70 students gathered in front of its main university and hurled rocks at police, also chanting, “Death to the dictator.”
In Tehran and Karaj west of the capital, protesters smashed windows on state buildings and set fires in the streets.
Images carried by the semi-official news agency Tasnim showed burning garbage bins and smashed-up bus shelters in the street lining the university after the protests subsided.
Brigadier-General Esmail Kowsari, the Revolutionary Guards’ deputy security chief in Tehran, said the situation in the capital was under control and warned protesters would face “the nation’s iron fist” if unrest persisted.
With this violence in Iran, there is no better time for American leaders to band together against an oppressive regime. Sen. McCain has long held hawkish views on foreign policy, but support for the Iranian protesters may bring some warmth to a previously frosty relationship between the Arizona Republican and President Trump.

There were also reports of unrest in the western cities of Sanandaj and Kermanshah as well as Chabahar in the southeast and Ilam in the southwest.

In an unusual turn of events, Sen. John McCain has agreed with President Donald Trump on an issue of foreign policy.
The Arizona Republican announced on Saturday that he is standing with the president in his support for the Iranian people in their protests for freedom.

Trump Comes Out Strong For Protesters
President Trump has been vocal about his disdain for the Iranian regime, which supports groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, terrorist organizations devoted to the destruction of Israel.

“The entire world understands that the good people of Iran want change,” the president later added in remarks. “Other than the vast military power of the United States…Iran’s people are what their leaders fear the most. This is what causes the regime to restrict internet access, tear down satellite dishes, shoot unarmed student protesters, and imprison political reformers.”
White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders also voiced the president’s stance on Iran, telling reporters, “The Iranian government should respect their people’s rights, including their right to express themselves.”
Iranian People Want a New Government
In elections earlier this year, Hassan Rouhani, the leader of the Iranian reformist party and current president of Iran, won in a sweeping victory. Rouhani is a moderate cleric who ran on a platform of opening Iran to the world to remove international sanctions and providing more freedoms domestically.
His initial victory came in 2013 when he defeated Mahmoud Ahmedinijad with just over 50 percent of the vote. This past May, however, he won a second term by a much larger margin.
Winning 23.5 million to 15.8 million against his ultra-conservative opponent, Rouhani’s landslide was a symbol of change in Iran. The Guardian reported:
“Yesterday, you said no to those who wanted us to return to the past,” [Rouhani] told the nation [at the time]. The scale of his victory provides a strong platform to challenge hardliners who still hold ultimate control in Iran’s unwieldy hybrid of theocracy and democracy.
But Rouhani’s remarks are hardly more than symbolic for the nation led by dictatorial leaders like Ayatollah Khamenei, who Trump warned in a recent talk:

Prior to today, other reports have emerged that the regime is violently repressing the protesters. A video shared on social media showed two young men lying in a pool of blood, with a voiceover explaining that they had been shot by Iranian security forces, according to Reuters. Reuters further reported:
Social media video from Mashhad showed protesters overturning a riot police car and police motorcycles set ablaze.
In Tehran, the semi-official news agency Fars said up to 70 students gathered in front of its main university and hurled rocks at police, also chanting, “Death to the dictator.”
In Tehran and Karaj west of the capital, protesters smashed windows on state buildings and set fires in the streets.
Images carried by the semi-official news agency Tasnim showed burning garbage bins and smashed-up bus shelters in the street lining the university after the protests subsided.
Brigadier-General Esmail Kowsari, the Revolutionary Guards’ deputy security chief in Tehran, said the situation in the capital was under control and warned protesters would face “the nation’s iron fist” if unrest persisted.
With this violence in Iran, there is no better time for American leaders to band together against an oppressive regime. Sen. McCain has long held hawkish views on foreign policy, but support for the Iranian protesters may bring some warmth to a previously frosty relationship between the Arizona Republican and President Trump.

Three Iranian protesters were shot dead by the Revolutionary Guard at a Saturday night demonstration in central Iran, the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya network reported, citing local reports.
There was no immediate confirmation of the incident, which reportedly took place in Doroud, in the Loerstan province.
Footage from Iranian opposition websites showed thousands participating in the nationwide demonstrations, with some calling for the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iranian social media accounts posted videos of demonstrators tearing down regime billboards featuring Khamenei’s photo.
A swirl of online rumors, combined with travel restrictions and a near-total media blackout from official agencies, made it difficult to verify footage.
Iranian state-controlled media characterized the worst anti-regime protests in eight years as masterminded by American, British, and Israeli spies seeking “to stir unrest” in the Islamic republic.
The regime warned protesters against holding fresh demonstrations, and organized rallies by hardline supporters, after protests spread Thursday and Friday into several cities including Tehran. Fifty-two people were arrested in Iran’s second most populous city of Mashhad on Thursday. State news channel IRINN said it had been banned from covering the protests.

State television showed large crowds of black-clad supporters gathering in the capital Tehran, second city Mashhad and elsewhere to mark the anniversary of the end of “the sedition” — the last major unrest that followed disputed elections in 2009.
Initially aimed against high prices, the anti-government protests quickly turned against the Islamic regime as a whole.
State TV aired live Saturday’s pro-government “9 Dey Epic” demonstrations, named for the date on the Iranian calendar the 2009 protests took place. The footage showed people waving flags and carrying banners bearing the image of Khamenei.
In Tehran, some 4,000 people gathered at the Musalla prayer ground in central Tehran. They called for criminal trials for Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi, leaders in the Green Movement who have been under house arrest since 2011. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, whose administration struck the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, campaigned on freeing the men, though they remain held.

Iran’s economy has improved since the nuclear deal, which saw Iran limit its enrichment of uranium in exchange for the end of some of the international sanctions that crippled its economy. Tehran now sells its oil on the global market and has signed deals for tens of billions of dollars of Western aircraft.
That improvement has reached the average Iranian, however. Unemployment remains high. Official inflation has crept up to 10 percent again. A recent increase in egg and poultry price by as much as 40 percent, which a government spokesman has blamed on a cull over avian flu fears, appears to have been the spark for the protests.
Videos on social media showed hundreds marching through the holy city of Qom on Friday evening, with people chanting “Death to the dictator” and “Free political prisoners.”
