Some see the blood moon as a fulfilment of biblical prophecy and a string of apocalyptic books have been published about the phenomena.

Megachurch pastor Hagee wrote that the red disks of the moon during the full eclipses are referred to in the book of Joel 2:31: "The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come."

On the night of Jan. 20, a super blood moon will pass over Washington, D.C. Sunset that evening will also mark the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Tu B'Shevat, the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, also known as the new year of the tree. Significantly, the day will also mark the halfway point of Donald Trump's presidency, precisely two years since he was sworn into office.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is at its perigee, the point in its month-long elliptical orbit which brings it closest to Earth. At that time, the moon appears up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than at its apogee, its furthest point from Earth. A "blood moon" is a result of atmospheric conditions that give the moon a reddish tint, which usually occurs during a lunar eclipse.

This astronomical phenomenon is described by the prophet Joel as preceding the final days of judgment.

Before the great and terrible day of Hashem comes, I will set portents in the sky and on earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke; The sun shall turn into darkness And the moon into blood. But everyone who invokes the name of Hashem shall escape; for there shall be a remnant on Mount Tzion and in Yerushalayim, as Hashem promised. Anyone who invokes Hashem will be among the survivors (Joel 3:3-5, The Israel Bible).

Rabbi Yekutiel Fish, known in Israel as the author of the Torah blog "Sod Ha'Chashmal," said, "Every aspect of our lives [is] from Hashem (God, literally 'the name') but sometimes it is more obvious than others," Rabbi Fish told Breaking Israel News. "When nature does something unusual, like an eclipse, we should certainly pay heed."

Rabbi Fish verified the connection between Tu B'Shevat and the blood moon, explaining the special significance for the moon in Kabbalistic (Jewish mystical) terms.

"The moon represents the feminine," Rabbi Fish explained to Breaking Israel News. "The masculine, known in Kabbalah as 'Yesod,' is usually represented by the sun."

"Trees are the masculine representation of the moon, normally appearing in its fullness on Tu B'Shevat since it falls in the middle of the month," he elaborated. "The holiday is a symbolic meeting of the sun and the moon, the masculine and the feminine, in a balanced manner."

But a lunar eclipse bears a potent message, according to Jewish tradition. The rabbi cited the Talmud (Sukkah 29a) which states that a lunar eclipse is a bad omen for Israel since the Jewish people bases its calendar in accordance with the lunar cycle. If the face of the moon is like blood, the Talmud reads, then this is a sign of the "increasing of swords."

The rabbi noted, however, that this upcoming lunar eclipse will not be visible in Israel.

"Nonetheless, the lunar eclipse over North America bears a message for the U.S. and the Jews," Rabbi Fish told Breaking Israel News. "It clearly is telling the Jews that they need to come to Israel."

"When an emissary is on a mission from the king, he is under the protection of the king," Rabbi Fish said. "When a Jew does the will of God, he is protected. "This is the period we are entering now," Rabbi Fish stated baldly, emphasizing that the Western nations are about to enter an extremely challenging era. "There will be great tragedies that will bring down governments and great human suffering. Only by doing God's will can tragedies be avoided or lessened."

"Anyone who is not Jewish can do God's will wherever he is. For the Jews who are still in the exile, the only way they can avoid tragedy is by coming to Israel."

"If any Jew was waiting for the last moment before leaving, this is it," Rabbi Fish said.

On the evening of January 21, as the holiday of Tu B’shvat begins, a lunar eclipse will pass over the Washington D.C., just as the President will reach the halfway point of his term in office. The eclipse will be a super blood moon, described in Jewish sources as having powerful significance.

On the Gregorian Calendar:

The lunar eclipse will be visible in its entirety from North and South America, as well as portions of western Europe and northwest Africa, on the evening of Sunday, January 20 and in the early morning hours of Monday, January 21. The evening of the eclipse will be a supermoon when the moon is at its perigee, the point in its month-long elliptical orbit that brings it closest to Earth. At that time, the moon appears up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than at its apogee, its furthest point from Earth.

This will not only be the first lunar eclipse of 2019 but also the year’s first supermoon. At that time, the proper conditions will exist to create a blood moon in which the moon has a distinctly reddish tint. This will be the last total lunar eclipse until May 26, 2021.

On the Political Calendar:

The date also marks the halfway point of Donald Trump’s presidency, coming exactly two years after he was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. It should be noted that Trump was born on the night of June 14, 1946, within fifteen minutes of a total lunar eclipse and 700 days before the state of Israel was established (May 14, 1048). Trump’s lucky sevens did not end there. When he was sworn in as President on January 20, 2017, he was 70-years-old, seven months and seven days.

On the Jewish Calendar:

The holiday of Tu B’shvat, the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shvat, begins at sundown on the same day. Known as the new year of the trees, Tu B’Shvat is one of four “New Years” mentioned in the Mishnah (the oral law).

Rabbi Mordechai Genut discussed the lunar eclipse in his book Davar B’ito, a guide to the calendar based on esoteric Jewish sources.

“A lunar eclipse in the month of Shevat is a sign of the rise of the aspect of din (judgment) in the world,” Rabbi Genut told Breaking Israel News. “This eclipse will rule over the Americas but for Israel, it will bring chesed (loving-kindness).”

Rabbi Genut described specifically how this judgment will be expressed.

Judgement Expressed

“There will be a marked increase in earthquakes and volcanoes, even more than we have seen in the past year,” Rabbi Genuth said. “Just as the eclipse is a conflict between the sun and the moon to rule over the heavens, there will be a similar conflict on earth. This will begin a time when governments are in balance. Some governments that seem powerful right now will fall and others will rise in their place.”

Rabbi Genut bases this on a verse in Isaiah.

In that day, Hashem will punish The host of heaven in heaven And the kings of the earth on earth. Isaiah 24:21

Jewish Interpretation of Solar and Lunar Eclipses:

Judaism has a tradition of interpreting solar and lunar eclipses. In its discussion of eclipses, the Talmud (Sukkot 29a) specifically described solar eclipses as being a bad omen for the nations. Indeed, the complete solar eclipse that transversed the continental United States in August 2018 ushered in the most devastating hurricane season in US history.

The same source in the Talmud specifies that lunar eclipses are a bad omen for Israel since Israel is spiritually represented by the moon and the Hebrew calendar is figured by the lunar cycles. If during the course of the lunar eclipse the moon appears red, as the upcoming eclipse will be, the Talmud states that this is an omen that great wars will come to the world.

At the end of this section describing the omens contained within eclipses, the Talmud states a disclaimer: “When Israel does the will of God, they have nothing to fear from all of this,” citing the Prophet Jeremiah as a source.

Thus said Hashem: Do not learn to go the way of the nations, And do not be dismayed by portents in the sky; Let the nations be dismayed by them! Jeremiah 10:2

Rabbi Yosef Berger applied this teaching in the Talmud to the current geopolitical situation.

“It’s not that the bad judgment symbolized by the lunar eclipse just disappears,” Rabbi Berger told Breaking Israel News. “It is merely averted to our enemies. In this case, the wars and evil will fall on our enemies. By choosing to be our enemies, the Arab nations have brought the evil that might have befallen Israel upon themselves.”

“This is especially true when the lunar eclipse falls on Tu B’Shvat, a day when only good can happen to Israel.”

Nearly five years ago the Christian community looked up in wonder as the first in a series of blood-red moons falling on biblical festivals dimly lit the night sky. Many wondered what this was leading to. A number of other significant lunar and solar eclipses have since transpired, as well as a series of conjunctions closely mirroring what occurred in the lead up to Christ's birth, and, most amazingly, an astronomical alignment appeared that perfectly matched the description given in the first two verses of the twelfth chapter of Revelation. And the signs have only continued. A little over one year after the Revelation 12:1–2 alignment, the rarely spectacular Draconids meteor shower came to life raining down hundreds of shooting stars per hour. A plausible explanation for the sign aspect of Revelation 12:3–4 was witnessed by many.

And now, in just two weeks, there appears to be a significant confluence of heavenly signs: a blood moon (total lunar eclipse) over the entire Western Hemisphere, immediately followed by a close conjunction of Jupiter and Venus—the two planets that have played a central role in this entire cosmic story, representing Christ and His Church. For those in the United States, the eclipse will be visible Sunday evening, January 20th, but anyone east will see it in the very early morning of January 21st. The Jupiter-Venus conjunction will be visible on Tuesday, January 22nd.

Everyone in North and South America, Europe, and West Africa will be able to witness the entirety of the total phase of the eclipse. Intriguingly, Israel misses the total eclipse phase by mere miles. So this blood moon, passing over our heads, is apparently intended for the Gentiles.

Speaking of passing over, it looks like the Trump-Kushner peace plan may now be unveiled on, or right around Passover. With Israeli elections now slated for April 9th, the Trump Administration seems hesitant to release the plan prematurely, potentially endangering its chance for success, so they have delayed it "several months" (in other words, until shortly after the elections).

This year Good Friday and Jewish Passover both fall on April 19th, ten days after Israeli elections. If Netanyahu secures enough Likud seats to form a governing coalition, Trump will no doubt be eager to reveal the plan. In fact, there have even been some reports that Trump encouraged Netanyahu to campaign on the peace plan ("Vote for me, I'll offer you peace and security!").

We can certainly see how the U.S. and Israel are gearing up for some big announcements (and major changes) to the status quo. Just yesterday, National Security Adviser John Bolton toured the tunnels beneath the Temple Mount and Western Wall:

And Prime Minister Netanyahu will apparently be making a major, televised announcement tonight regarding his burgeoning legal troubles, so stay tuned.

If you think of the Bible's prophecies of the end of the age like a birthday cake, the cake has already been mixed, baked, and set. The icing is even on. All that remains are the sprinkles and candles. There are just a few finishing touches, whatever those minute details may be.

Every few years there is a back-to-back sequence of total lunar eclipses, these are what constitute tetrads and triads (four and three total lunar eclipses in a row, respectively). The last tetrad occurred in 2014 to 2015, and the blood moons fell on Passover - Tabernacles - Passover - Tabernacles. This month's blood moon is the last blood moon of a triad. In fact it's the last blood moon until mid-2021. With two and a half years until the next one, it almost seems like a bookend of sorts. And sandwiched between the 2014–15 tetrad and the 2018–19 triad was the Revelation 12 Sign, which points to our soon departure and the near-arrival of the Day of the LORD.

Addendum: A Church-Snatching Conjunction

After watching an intriguing video from Ty Green about the upcoming Jupiter-Venus conjunction, I thought it worthwhile to share with you that this conjunction paints a pretty compelling picture of the rapture.

Recall that Jupiter (representing the Body of Christ) was in Virgo's womb for the exact length of human gestation and then came out. Virgo is the only constellation of a virgin and the only constellation along the ecliptic of a woman (thus the only candidate for Revelation 12:1–2 in the sky).

Think back to the potential Revelation 12:3–4 sign on October 8th of this year when, to many observers, it appeared that one-third of the visible stars of the sky fell to earth along the path of the dragon.

Just below the seven heads of Serpens (#1 in the image above) is the claw of Scorpius in which Jupiter (again, representing the Church) is currently bound.

Now, just as Virgo is the only constellation in the sky that can represent the woman of Revelation 12, so Libra, just below her feet, is the only constellation that can be unequivocally associated with the Throne Room of God. Why? Because the ancient depictions of Libra were not scales, but an altar (see here). And in the Book of Revelation, the heavenly altar is located immediately in front of the Throne of God (Rev. 8:3) in Heaven.

Now get this: after the October alignment this year, Venus traveled to Virgo (Israel) and remained there for a bit. After having a rare conjunction with Spica (the "seed"), Venus then leaves Virgo, traveling to Libra (the altar in Heaven). Compare this to:

Therefore Israel will be abandoned until she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of His brothers will return to the children of Israel.
- Micah 5:3

And the important prophecy that the New Testament writers picked up on in which it is said God would take a people out of the Gentiles to Himself, to make the unbelieving nation of Israel jealous:

They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.
- Deuteronomy 32:21

And finally Christ's ascension when He literally left Israel from the Mount of Olives and was taken up to Heaven:

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 'Men of Galilee,' they said, 'why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.'

What happens next? Venus leaves Libra (the heavenly altar) and travels down the ecliptic until it conjuncts with Jupiter near the claw of Scorpius, just below the seven heads of Serpens, on January 21–22, around the time of the Super Blood Moon. After being rescued by Venus, Jupiter is now past the seven heads of Serpens and out of the clutches of Scorpius for the next near-decade, returning to Virgo (Israel) in 2028 at the same time Venus returns to Leo.

And so we now may have a complete picture. But remember, these are signs of the nearness of events, not necessarily the events themselves.
