A man has suffered 'serious facial injuries' after a double stabbing in Blackpool town centre.

Police were called to reports of an assault close to the Wilko Store, in the Dickson Road area, at around 1.05pm today.

A 24-year-old was found stabbed in the back.

Around one hour later a second man in his 20s was stabbed close to the same store and suffered 'serious facial injuries'.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

Detectives said the 24-year-old man injured in the first incident has been detained in connection with the second attack.

He is currently being treated at Blackpool Victora Hospital with 'minor injuries'.

Lancashire Constabulary said both incidents are believed to be linked and an investigation is underway.

Det Insp Kevin Simmons, of Blackpool CID, said: “We are appealing for information after two men were stabbed in Blackpool.

“Officers have quickly attended the scenes and detained one man, who was later taken to hospital for treatment.

“We understand this was concerning for people in the area but we would like to reassure people police are at the scene and enquiries are on-going.”

A spokesperson said: "“We were called at around 2.04pm.

“We are dealing with a male patient who has a head injury.

The road is closed in both directions and traffic is being diverted away from the scene.

Bus services 3 and 4 are being diverted to Talbot Road, onto the promenade and then back in towards the Claremont Hotel and onto normal route.

Monstrous. And it barely makes news in the sharia-complaint media. A couple of news outlets gave a couple of paragraphs, if that and the child stabber is described as an “Asian man” – stabbing a child and still the media can’t say it.
 
Detective Inspector Tim Lindley said: “This was an act of violence against a young child who was out, in the street, with his mother.
 
“It happened in a residential area at a time of day when there would have been people about, either on foot or driving through.
 
“We need to find who was responsible for injuring this boy.
 
“If you were in the area of Belper Street between the times of 4.30pm and 6.30pm and saw what happened or a man matching this description we want to hear from you.
 
“Equally, if you have any dashcam footage or CCTV of the area please get in touch.”
 
A 10-YEAR-OLD BOY HAS BEEN STABBED IN THE STREET WHILE OUT WITH HIS MOTHER.
They were approached by a man in Belper Street, Leicester, at about 17:20 GMT on Saturday, who stabbed the boy and then ran off, police said.

A member of the public called emergency services and the child was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he remains in a stable condition.
 
His mother was not injured in the attack and a cordon at the crime scene has been lifted.
 
Leicestershire Police described the suspect as a light-skinned Asian man, in his mid-20s, about 5ft 10in tall, of chubby build, and wearing a brown jacket.

Three Christian teachers have been killed in a vicious attack by Islamic militants.

The trio of educators, based at Kamuthe Primary School in Garissa, Kenya, were set upon by a group of jihadis in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to Christian persecution watchdog International Christian Concern, the Al-Shabaab militants attacked the school resource center, where the teachers were housed. Prior to the attack, the attackers destroyed the surrounding telecommunication systems so that their victims would not be able to call for help.

“My fellow teachers were fatally shot by an unknown number of suspected al-Shabaab militia who stormed Kamuthe primary school early this morning and leaving one severely injured by two gunshots,” a local teacher, Robert Kibutu, confirmed to ICC. “We are sad and at the same time scared because we are targeted for being non-local government workers that belong to the Christian faith.”

The victims in the attack were identified as Caleb Mutua, Titus Ushindi, and Samuel Muthui Kyonzu. Another man, Joshua Mutua, survived but sustained serious leg injuries.

Joseph Odhiambo, Director of missionary organization “Harvest of Hope Africa,” told Faithwire that the militants have started specifically targeting educators in a bid to instill a fear that will drive other teachers away from the region. Through ridding the area of educational opportunities, the group hopes that the younger generation will remain ignorant to the threat of Islamic extremism.

“Al Shabab Islamists are trying to destabilize education in northeastern Kenya by targeting non-resident teaching staff,” Odhiambo said. “But our God will prevail.”

ICC’s Regional Manager for Africa, Nathan Johnson, released a statement urging prayer for the grieving families.

The issue made headlines again in April 2019, when a suspicious fire gutted the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Since then, however, the European media are once again shrouding facts in silence.

Anti-Christian hostility is sweeping across Western Europe, where, during 2019, Christian churches and symbols were deliberately attacked day after day.

Gatestone Institute reviewed thousands of newspaper reports, police blotters, parliamentary inquiries, social media posts and specialized blogs from Britain, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain. The research shows (see appendices below) that roughly 3,000 Christian churches, schools, cemeteries and monuments were vandalized, looted or defaced in Europe during 2019 — which is on track to becoming a record year for anti-Christian sacrilege on the continent.

Violence against Christian sites is most widespread in France, where churches, schools, cemeteries and monuments are being vandalized, desecrated and burned at an average rate of three per day, according to government statistics. In Germany, attacks against Christian churches are occurring at an average rate of two per day, according to police blotters.

Attacks on Christian churches and symbols are also commonplace in Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Ireland, Italy and Spain. The attacks overwhelmingly involve Roman Catholic sites and symbols, although in Germany, Protestant churches are also being targeted.

The perpetrators of anti-Christian attacks — which include acts of arson, defecation, desecration, looting, mockery, profanation, Satanism, theft, urination and vandalism — are rarely caught. When they are, police and media often censor information about their identities and ethnic backgrounds. Many suspects are said to have mental disorders; as a result, many anti-Christian attacks are not categorized as hate crimes.

In France and Germany, the spike in anti-Christian attacks dovetails with the recent mass immigration from the Muslim world. The lack of official statistics on perpetrators and motives makes it impossible to know precisely how many attacks can be attributed to Muslim anti-Christianism or the jihadist cause.

In Spain, by contrast, attacks against churches and crosses are overwhelmingly carried out by anarchists, radical feminists and other far-left activists, who appear to be striving for Christianity to be permanently removed from the public square.

The motives behind the anti-Christian attacks, which are often met with public indifference, seem to fall into four broad categories:

Vandalism. Most attacks against Christian sites in Europe consist of acts of vandalism. These often lack explicit anti-Christian intent, but cross over into profanation and desecration when they target objects and symbols sacred to Christians. From a strictly legal perspective, such crimes are difficult to prosecute as hate crimes: according to the laws of most European countries, prosecutors must prove that the vandalism was specifically motivated by an animosity toward Christians or Christianity.

Theft. Many attacks have financial motives. In France, Germany and elsewhere, thieves have stolen church bells, sacred metal objects and even drain pipes, apparently with the aim of selling those items to scrap dealers. In Britain, nearly half of all churches on the National Historical List for England have been ransacked. Many of the crimes are being attributed to highly organized gangs which use drones, online maps and global positioning systems first to identify their targets through aerial footage and then plot their own escape routes. The plunder is dominated by thefts of metal, with entire roofs being removed from historic places of worship, according to the heritage agency, Historic England.

Politics. Some attacks, especially those against Roman Catholicism, which some radical feminists and radical secularists perceive to be a symbol of patriarchal power and authority, are political in nature. Such attacks include defacing churches and religious symbols with political graffiti, much of it anarchist or feminist in nature. In Geneva, Switzerland, for instance, the iconic International Monument to the Protestant Reformation, also known as the Reformation Wall, was vandalized with multi-colored paint forming a rainbow, a symbol of the LGBT groups.

Religion. Many attacks that appear to be religious or spiritual in nature reflect a deep-seated hostility toward Christianity. Such attacks include smearing feces on representations of Jesus Christ or statues of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Other attacks involve the defilement or theft of Communion wafers, which Roman Catholics believe are transformed into the real presence of Christ when consecrated. Some of these attacks may be the work of Satanists, who use the consecrated host in a ritual called the Black Mass.

Such attacks, especially on the essence of Roman Catholic beliefs, appear to be aimed at intimidating or harassing Catholics or preventing them from practicing their faith. These attacks, which do meet the definition of hate crimes, pose a direct threat to the freedom of religion in Europe, but prosecutions are rare.

Writing for the Spanish newspaper ABC, Juan Pedro Quiñonero, its Paris correspondent for more than 35 years, explained:

"The desecrations have an evident anti-Christian character. Drunk with fierce hatred, the vandals want to give their actions a clear anti-religious dimension. In recent months, anti-Semitic gangs have desecrated Jewish cemeteries, 'signing' their actions with swastikas. In the case of the desecration of Catholic churches, vandalism is not 'signed.' It speaks for itself: heinous mockeries of the figure of Christ on the cross and the desecration of high altars."

European media outlets, which often amplify attacks on Muslims, have tended to downplay malicious acts against Christians. The issue of anti-Christian vandalism was rarely reported by the European media until February 2019, when vandals attacked nine churches within the space of two weeks. Since then, however, the European media are once again shrouding facts in silence.

The French newspaper Le Monde has disputed the government's use of the term "anti-Christian acts" and warned politicians not to "instrumentalize" the issue:

"More than a thousand acts a year, an average of three per day: the number is high, but what does it cover? Can we really speak of 'profanations' — a strong term — which implies an attack on the sacredness of a place of worship?

"Ideological motivations are in the minority: it is mainly about thefts and vandalism. The perpetrators often are minors."

Annie Genevard, a French MP for the center-right Republicans party, has called for a parliamentary investigation in order better to understand the nature and motivations of anti-Christian attacks. In an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, she said:

"Recently, two terribly serious acts of vandalism were committed in symbolic places and shocked me greatly. A few days ago, the fire in the Church of Saint Sulpice, a church that houses remarkable works: there is nearly a million euros of damage and works are irretrievably lost! And some time ago, vandals broke into the Basilica of Saint Denis and damaged stained-glass windows and the organ. Saint Denis it is not only a place of Christian worship, it is the necropolis of the kings of France! It is a meeting place between our national history and our Christian roots. That one dares to attack this monument is really shocking not only for Christians but for many citizens, whatever their convictions. When an anti-Christian act is committed, we turn our backs on the history of France, which has an intimate connection with the Christian religion.

"To attack a Christian tomb or a church, whatever the motivation of the author, is a way to attack one part of our collective identity, because Christianity and its monuments have shaped our culture, our history and our landscapes. Seeking to destroy or damage Christian buildings is a way of 'wiping the slate clean' of the past. In an era where the most absolute cultural relativism reigns, it is all the more serious that some of our oldest and most valuable landmarks are endangered. A civilization that would deny and turn away from its past would be a civilization that would be lost. I think this is worrying, and there is a need for a strong political response."

In an interview with the Italian magazine Il Timone, the Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon, Dominique Rey, said that the attacks against churches in Europe are taking place within the context of a European society marked by secularism, nihilism, hedonism, cultural and moral relativism, consumerism, and the widespread loss of the sense of the sacred. He noted:

"In the past, even those who said they were non-Christian lived in a cultural context marked by Christianity.... roots that have been abandoned by our culture and by our societies. Once the Christian roots, which were the common denominator, were removed, people turned to communitarianism, which led to a social fragmentation that is leading to a break. To find a common base of values and points of reference, Europe must restore centrality to its Christian roots....

"There is an evolution of acts of profanation against monuments, but also against the Catholic faith itself. In the past, even if one was not a Christian, the expression of the sacred was respected. We are facing a serious threat to the expression of religious freedom. Secularism must not be a rejection of the religious, but a principle of neutrality that gives everyone the freedom to express his faith.

The French political analyst Jérôme Fourquet, in his book — French Archipelago: Birth of a Multiple and Divided Nation — shows how the de-Christianization of France is taking place within the context of mass migration from the Muslim world. He provides extensive statistical data — for instance, that less than 5% of French people regularly attend Mass on Sundays — to show that France's detachment from Christianity is so far-reaching that the country now is effectively "post-Christian." He writes:

"There is a growing de-Christianization, which is leading to the 'terminal phase' of the Catholic religion.... For hundreds of years the Catholic religion profoundly structured the collective conscience of French society. Today this society is the shadow of what it once was. A great civilizational change is underway."

The man who shot and killed the White Settlement, Texas, church shooter on December 29, 2019, says, “I feel like I killed evil.”

CBS DFW identifies the Texas church hero as Jack Wilson, a gentleman who is both a member of the church security team and a candidate for Hood County commissioner.

After the incident was over, Wilson used a Facebook post to describe his feelings:

I just want to thank all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today. The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church.

“I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed,” he added. “Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding.”

NBC News reports that Wilson owns a gun range, which is where he trained for a moment like the one that arose Sunday at church.

When asked how he is dealing with killing another man, Wilson said, “I don’t feel like I killed a human, I killed an evil and that’s how I’m coping with the situation.”

A gunman has opened fire in a Texas church as a Sunday service was being livestreamed online, killing two before an armed member of the congregation shot him dead.
The incident took place at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, less than 10 miles west of Fort Worth.

A further two people were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the shooting, which took place during the 10am Sunday Service at the Texas church, with horrified viewers of the livestream witnessing the events unfold.

According to a church elder, the church member who was killed was a church security guard who had responded to the shooting. Church elder Mike Tinius said of the victim, "'He was trying to do what he needed to do to protect the rest of us. It's extremely upsetting to see anyone committing violence."

Tinius told a US publication that he did not know the gunman, and authorities have not yet publicly identified any motive for the shooting.

One witness described how the shooter approached a server during the communion and then started shooting.
One church member said on Facebook that a church deacon "who is a concealed carry instruction, and retired law enforcement officer, shot the guy before he could fire a third time!"

According to CBS 11 the deacon has been identified as a former FBI agent, and is also part of the church's security team.

The livestream of the incident shows the gunman opening fire and church members quickly ducking under the pews. However, within seconds about half a dozen church members rush towards the shooter with handguns pointed at him.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has responded to the incident, saying: "'Our hearts go out to the victims and families of those killed in the evil act of violence that occurred at the West Freeway Church of Christ."
He added, "Places of worship are meant to be sacred and I am grateful for the church member who acted quickly to take down the shooter and help prevent further loss of life."

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has also said: "As reports come in, please pray for any victims and their families, this congregation, and the law enforcement officials at the scene. My office will assist in any way needed."

Daily Mail– New York City police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing five people in a rabbi’s home during a Hanukkah celebration in a predominantly Jewish town in upstate New York on Saturday night. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Thomas Grafton of Greenwood Lake, New York, a police source told CNN. Grafton allegedly stormed into the home of Rabbi Chaim Leibush Rottenberg, the leader of Congregation Netzach Yisrael-Kosson, in Monsey at around 10 pm and began wildly swinging a machete at some 60 worshippers gathered for a candle-lighting ceremony for the seventh night of Hanukkah.

WFAA – Multiple people have been reported dead and another injured critically after a shooting at the West Freeway Church of Christ of Las Vegas Trail according to authorities. Police were responding to an active shooter situation early Sunday. The shooting was apparently broadcast on the church’s live stream. Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton said in a tweet, “We are shocked and saddened to hear reports of a shooting at a church in White Settlement.

A knifeman attacked a Chanukah celebration at a rabbi’s home north of New York City late on Saturday, stabbing and injuring five people before fleeing in a vehicle, police said.

The attack appeared to be the latest in a string targeting Jews in the region, including a massacre at a kosher grocery store in New Jersey earlier this month.

Police said the stabbings happened at around 10pm in Monsey, one of several Hudson Valley towns that have seen an influx in large numbers of Chasidic Jews in recent years.

Ramapo Police Chief Brad Weidel said hours later that New York City police had located a vehicle and possible suspect. Sky News later reported that one suspect had been arrested.

Top state officials, including Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Leticia James, released statements condemning the attack.

Photos and videos posted on Twitter showed a large emergency response with paramedics running and pushing stretchers. A number of police and emergency vehicles could be seen in the images.

The Anti-Defamation League of New York and New Jersey says it was also aware of the reports and was at the scene in Monsey.

Monsey is about an hour north of New York City.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews said: “We are outraged by this latest attack on Jewish people, celebrating Chanukah at home. We pray for the swift recovery of all the victims. There must be zero tolerance for acts of hate. ”

The Community Security Trust, which is responsible for securing the UK Jewish community said: “This was a terrible attack on a place of worship and our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families. It is another distressing reminder of why the security we have in the Jewish community is so necessary.”

The Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council for the Hudson Valley region tweeted reports that the stabbings took place at the house of a Chasidic rabbi while they were celebrating Canukah.

Several state and local officials described the location of the stabbing as a synagogue. The rabbi’s home is next door to a synagogue.

Saturday was the seventh night of Canukah.

Governor Cuomo, who called the stabbings a “cowardly act”, has directed the State Police hate crimes task force to investigate the attacks.

“Let me be clear: antisemitism and bigotry of any kind are repugnant to our values of inclusion and diversity and we have absolutely zero tolerance for such acts of hate,” he said.

“In New York we will always stand up and say with one voice to anyone who wishes to divide and spread fear: you do not represent New York and your actions will not go unpunished.”

Police chief Mr Weidel said the five people were taken to hospital for treatment, but the extent of their injuries was not clear.

Authorities have not provided a motive for the attack.

The incident happened a month after a man needed surgery after being stabbed while walking to a synagogue in Monsey.

Jewish communities in the New York City metro area have been troubled following a deadly gun rampage at a northern New Jersey kosher market on December 10.

Six people died in the shooting, including the two killers, a police officer and three people who had been inside the store. New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said the attack was driven by hatred of Jews and law enforcement.

Around New York City, police have received at least six reports this week – and eight since December 13 – of attacks possibly prompted by anti-Jewish sentiment.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Friday that the police presence would be increased in Brooklyn neighbourhoods with large Jewish populations.

The Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) released a video on Tuesday purportedly showing the execution of eleven hostages, ten Christians plus one Muslim. The group said the murders were in retaliation for the deaths of ISIS leaders Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir.

Baghdadi, the supreme leader or “caliph” of the Islamic State, was killed in Syria by U.S. special forces on October 26. The next day, U.S. airstrikes killed ISIS spokesman Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir.

ISWAP said two additional Muslim hostages were spared from execution. The full group of 13 hostages appeared in a video released on December 17 in which they asked the Christian Association of Nigeria to negotiate with the Islamic State group to secure their release.

The office of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement of concern on Tuesday evening, offering condolences to the families of the victims and expressing the support of the United Nations for Nigeria’s government and people.

The Secretary-General recalls that attacks by a party to an armed conflict that target civilians, aid workers, and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law. Those responsible for these atrocities must be held accountable,” the statement said. 

Within a few hours of the publication of the ISWAP execution video, Islamic State affiliate Boko Haram attacked a predominantly Christian village in Nigeria, killed seven people, and abducted a teenage girl.

Three men have been stabbed to death in London in little over 12 hours.

A man in his 20s was attacked in Hackney, east London, on Thursday afternoon. A 14-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man have been arrested.

Overnight, a man was found fatally wounded in Knightsbridge, central London, while another victim was killed in Deptford, south-east London.

The deaths mean 136 murder investigations have been launched in the capital this year.

It is the same amount as during the whole of 2018.

The victim who was killed in Knightsbridge was found unconscious just after midnight after police had been called over reports of a stabbing.

He was treated by paramedics but pronounced dead at the scene at 00:39 GMT.

Another man was found injured and taken to hospital "in a serious condition", police said.

Emergency services were also called to Bronze Street, Deptford, at 03:00 GMT after a man was fatally stabbed.

No arrests have been made over either of the killings overnight and the Met have appealed for witnesses.

Detectives believe the victim killed in Clarence Mews, Hackney, on Thursday died following "an altercation involving a group of people".

The two people arrested on suspicion of murder remain in custody but the Met said "at least two other suspects remain outstanding" and inquiries to locate them are "ongoing"

A man in his twenties has been stabbed to death in broad daylight in east London, bringing the capital's murder toll to 128 this year. 
Police and paramedics were scrambled to Clarence Mews in Hackney at 2pm today where they found the victim suffering knife wounds. He was pronounced dead at 2.33pm. 
One man has been arrested at the scene and is being held in custody on suspicion of murder. 
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'Police were called at 2.01pm on Thursday 5 December to reports of a stabbing in Clarence Mews, Hackney.
'Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended and found a man seriously injured.

A woman has been rushed to hospital after a 'substance' was thrown over her this morning in north London in a suspected acid attack. 

The victim was attacked during the morning rush hour on Kentish Town Road, Camden.

Officers raced to the scene after 999 calls were made shortly before 7am following reports of a possible acid attack in the high street.

The road was closed off by police tape as investigators carried out an examination of the scene. 

A police statement read: 'Officers were called to Kentish Town Road a little before 7am this morning after a substance was reported to have been thrown at a woman. 

'London Ambulance Service were called and she has been taken to hospital; we await an update on her condition. The incident caused some disruption to roads.'

At least 11 people have been shot on Canal Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans.  

A suspect opened fire in the area popular for nightlife in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Two of the victims were taken to hospital in a critical condition.  

Multiple reports say a suspect has been detained.  

New Orleans Police had already beefed up their presence in the area because of the Bayou Classic football game between Grambling State University and Southern University.

Officers confirmed they were just a few feet away from the shooting, and initially thought they were being fired at.

Armed police shot a man on London Bridge today in an incident that has left one person dead and up to five people injured as Scotland Yard said they are treating it as 'terror-related'. 
 
Dramatic video filmed at the scene around 2pm this afternoon shows at least four people struggling with a man on the ground before armed police officers step in.
 
The officers tell the people on top of the suspect to move away, before dragging the last bystander to safety and opening fire. One of the bystanders is holding a knife which seems to have been taken from the suspect.
 
The suspect lies wounded on the ground, but still moving as officers back away - clearly fearing that they are still in danger, potentially from explosives. 
 
The incident comes two and a half years after the horrifying terrorist attack on London Bridge in June 2017 which saw three men kill eight people and injure 48 others. 
 
While the episode unfolds this afternoon, hundreds of frightened bystanders look on and begin screaming and running for their lives as shots are fired.

Dutch police say multiple people have been injured in a stabbing incident in The Hague's main shopping street.

Police said in a tweet Friday evening that the incident happened in the city's main shopping street.

The incident happened in Grote Marktstraat, which is at the centre of the city's shopping district. 

Further details were not immediately available.

A 'cold-blooded' crossbow killer who shot his heavily pregnant ex-wife in an act of revenge was today jailed for life with a minimum term of 33 years.

Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 51, burst into the home of Sana Muhammad and fired an arrow into her stomach as she fled upstairs in a 'brutal and evil attack'.

Mrs Muhammad, 35, formerly known as Devi Unmathallegadoo, suffered catastrophic internal injuries in the shooting in East London and died.

The court heard how the victim had an arranged marriage to the defendant in Mauritius on her 16th birthday. He was 30 at the time.
Their unhappy relationship ended in 2012 after an incident in which she jumped out of an upstairs window and broke her ankle.

After a trial in 2013, he was cleared of attacking her and acquitted on the judge's direction of a charge of attempted strangulation under the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.

She successfully filed for an emergency non-molestation order which barred the defendant from coming within 100 metres of the family home in Ilford, east London.

Following her divorce, she married builder Imtiaz Muhammad and changed her name to Sana Muhammad.

Meanwhile, the defendant lost his job as a site manager at Newham General Hospital and slept rough as he plotted revenge. 

On the morning of November 12, 2018, he took up position in the garden shed armed with two crossbows, bolts, a knife, duct tape, cable ties and a hammer.

He was disturbed by Mr Muhammad who had gone into the garden to store an empty box.

The defendant ran inside the house and shot his ex-wife with an 18-inch arrow as she fled upstairs.

As Unmathallegadoo's oldest children rushed in to disarm him, the defendant said: 'It would have been easier if you guys weren't here, like I would have done it.'

The prosecution suggested Unmathallegadoo's plan had been to restrain the family and at least kill the two adults and the unborn child.

Unmathallegadoo made no reaction as the verdict was delivered last week following a retrial at the Old Bailey. 
After the guilty verdict last week, Mrs Muhammad's widower paid tribute to his outgoing and bubbly 'soul mate'.

Imtiaz Muhammad said: 'She was very friendly, talkative and always made me laugh. She was my soul mate, my best friend, my wife, my companion and my everything and I love her dearly.

He said his wife had been 'scared' of the defendant, adding: 'She would always say 'Ram does not forgive and forget, he likes to create trouble no matter if he loses everything'.'

Her mother, Ellemah Sutharamandoo, said she was 'overwhelmed' with sadness.

She said: 'I always treated Ramanodge as my own son, I always thought of him and his wellbeing after the separation. It brings me so much pain to know that he could be capable of something so hateful and so calculated. I cannot forgive him.' 

Susan Krikler, from the Crown Prosecution Service, described the killing as a 'cold-blooded and calculated execution'.

She said: 'This devastating attack has left six children without their mother. I hope today's conviction provides some comfort to those who loved and cared for Devi.'

Detective Sergeant Amjad Sharif, of Scotland Yard, said: 'At a time when she should have been happily looking forward to the birth of her new child, Sana Muhammad was killed in cold blood by her ex-husband, Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo.

'The circumstances and detail of the case are harrowing and I would like to pay tribute to the strength and dignity of Sana's friends and family, some of who have given evidence during the trial. '

Armed police allegedly shot dead a man brandishing a knife on London Bridge today as crowds were seen running away from the scene.
People in the capital could be heard shouting 'they've actually got guns out' this afternoon as footage from the scene showed a person slumped on the ground.

Witnesses said there appeared to be a fight on the southern side of the bridge with several men attacking another man shortly after 2pm today.

One video shows what appears to be police pulling equipment out of a vehicle nearby. Those in the video can be heard saying: 'They've actually got guns out.'

Armed police shot a man on London Bridge today in an incident that has left one person dead and up to five people injured as Scotland Yard said they are treating it as 'terror-related'. 

Dramatic video filmed at the scene around 2pm this afternoon shows at least four people struggling with a man on the ground before armed police officers step in.

The officers tell the people on top of the suspect to move away, before dragging the last bystander to safety and opening fire. One of the bystanders is holding a knife which seems to have been taken from the suspect.

The suspect lies wounded on the ground, but still moving as officers back away - clearly fearing that they are still in danger, potentially from explosives. 

The incident comes two and a half years after the horrifying terrorist attack on London Bridge in June 2017 which saw three men kill eight people and injure 48 others. 

While the episode unfolds this afternoon, hundreds of frightened bystanders look on and begin screaming and running for their lives as shots are fired.

A pastor has been stabbed to death in a horrific attack, with several sources indicating that he was targeted because of his Christian faith.
Pastor Jinwook Kim was murdered in the city of Diyarbakir in south-east Turkey, having lived in the country for the last five years. He had moved to Diyarbakir for the past year, where he pastored a small church. 

Several local sources told Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) that he may have been targeted because of his faith, and a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with his death.

Adding to the tragedy, Kim leaves behind a four-year-old son and a heavily pregnant wife who is just days away from giving birth.

CSW's Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas said: "We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, congregation and loved ones of Pastor Kim.

"We urge the Turkish government to fully investigate this murder, and hold those found to have been involved in it accountable."

The pastor's death comes at an increasingly difficult time for Christians in Turkey, with some foreign church leaders having been imprisoned or deported since a failed coup in 2016. 

Andrew Brunson, an American pastor, spent two years in prison on trumped up terrorism and espionage charges before being freed after the US imposed economic sanctions on Turkey. 

Last month, CSW says billboards appeared in the conservative, south-western city of Konya encouraging Muslims not to befriend Jews and Christians. 

The charity warns that the Christian minority in the country has been increasingly subjected to animosity, hate speech and anti-Christian sentiments. 

It added that the murder of Kim had brought back painful memories of the 2007 torture and murder of three Christians at a publishing house in the city of Malatya.

Mr Thomas called on the Turkish government to take action to stop the targeting of Christians and other minorities. 

"The government must also crack down on hate speech targeting Christians and other religious minorities, as it facilitates an atmosphere in which these communities are at increased risk," he said.

"We call on the international community to press the Turkish government to end all forms of discrimination against religious minorities, and respect its constitutional obligations to protect and respect the rights of all citizens regardless of their religious affiliation or ethnic background."

Bodycam footage has captured the moment hero police Tasered a lone wolf terrorist and grappled him to the floor as he launched a frenzied knife attack on commuters at a train station.

Mahdi Mohamud, 26, has today been ordered to serve life with a minimum of 11 years at a high security psychiatric hospital after admitting a terror offence and three counts of attempted murder.

Shocking CCTV footage released last night showed the moment Mohamud launched the attack on a couple at Manchester Victoria Station on New Years Eve.

It showed the knifeman walking up behind unsuspecting James Knox, screaming 'Allahu Akbar!' and 'Long live the Caliphate!' as he stabbed his victim repeatedly in the back, shoulders and head.

He then turned the knife on Mr Knox's companion, Anna Charlton, slashing her across the face after the couple, in their 50s, randomly crossed his path heading for a tram platform shortly before 9pm last December 31. 

Hero police officer Lee Valentine, 31, who was also injured in the attack, yesterday told of the moment he confronted Mahamud, and spoke of how he pulled the trigger on his Taser but failed to stop the lone wolf who was armed with a fillet knife.

He was with colleague Pc Tom Wright, 27, on duty at the railway station when he heard a shocking scream as Mohamud launched the attack. Sgt Valentine said he felt 'massively' lucky not to be more seriously injured in the attack.

Mohamud, diagnosed as suffering paranoid schizophrenia, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to three counts of attempted murder and one count of the possession of a document or record likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, a manual titled, 'the seven most lethal ways to strike with a knife'.

Mohamud, who was born in the Netherlands and moved to the UK aged nine, had been diagnosed with a drug-induced psychosis in 2016, and had created a document incorporating the jihadi message of terror figurehead Anwar Al-Awalaki. 

Alison Morgan QC, prosecuting, argued though Mohamud was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic and this may have 'disinhibited' his behaviour, the attack was 'not simply a product of that mental illness' given the months of planning, his extremist ideology and desire to perform 'jihad.'

The court heard the defendant, a Dutch national from a Somali family who has lived in the UK since the age of nine, gained a first-class degree in mechanical engineering from Leeds University in 2016.

But after gaining a placement with Rolls Royce in 2015 he suffered a drug induced psychosis and his mental health deteriorated with him being sectioned and spending time in mental hospitals in the UK and Somalia.

Rebecca Trowler QC, mitigating, told the court the defendant's mental illness acted as the 'driver' for the attack.

Mr Justice Stuart-Smith sentenced Mohamud to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 11 years.

The 'Hybrid Order' means the defendant will remain in a hospital until until his mental state has recovered sufficiently for him to be transferred to prison to complete the rest of his sentence.

Mr Justice Stuart-Smith said: 'In general terms your mental illness did not cause you to be unable to distinguish between right and wrong.

'For these main reasons I conclude that, though your mental illness made a significant contribution, probably by exacerbating the seeds of Islamic radicalisation and by a disinhibiting effect, you retain substantial responsibility and culpability for your acts.' 

Earlier the court heard Mohamud walked the mile from his family home in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, to the busy city centre train station where he launched the attack shortly before 9pm.

Mr Knox suffered 13 injuries including a skull fracture while Ms Charlton's right lung was punctured and she suffered a slash to her forehead that cut down to the bone.

Police later recovered a large amount of what police called 'counter-terrorism mindset material', including images, Islamic State propaganda, hate-speeches by extreme Islamists and the document about how to carry out knife attacks.

Mohamud was known to mental health services but was not subject to a care plan and his family had made him a doctor's appointment and slipped anti-psychotic medication into his food in the days before he travelled to and from Somalia on several occasions between 2016 and 2018.

During that time he accessed 'significant extremist material' and began drafting documents that would later be of significance to the attack that he committed, the court heard.

He returned to the UK on November 12, 2018, with a 'schedule' or diary for carrying out his jihad with an 'endgame' on December 31, the court was told.

The sentencing hearing, stretched across two days, heard reports from a number of psychiatrists, as the prosecution and defence disagreed over the extent to which the defendant's mental health could explain the offences he committed. 

Chief Constable Paul Crowther from British Transport Police said today: 'The actions of Lee and his team of officers are quite simply heroic. From the moment they heard the screams, they demonstrated extreme courage in running towards danger, bringing a horrendous attack to an end in under 40 seconds.

'I couldn't be prouder of their efforts, and of course our friends at Metrolink who also challenged the suspect. Unfortunately, this is the second time in as many years that BTP officers in Manchester have faced an unprecedented challenge.

'Our teams confronted scenes of terror during the devastating Arena bombing in 2017, and during this frightening incident on New Year's Eve. In both, they showed the upmost professionalism, bravery and honour.'

Sergeant Lee Valentine, said: 'The screams heard at Manchester Victoria were chilling, from the moment we heard them our instincts took over.

'My colleagues Marsha and Ashleigh were the first to encounter the suspect intervening whilst he was savagely attacking his victims. They immediately ran over, putting themselves in danger by positioning themselves between the suspect and the victims, armed only with a baton and incapacitant spray. Without a doubt, they prevented further serious harm being caused to the victims, potentially saving their lives and other members of the public.

'Tom and I arrived mere seconds later, supporting Marsha and Ashleigh, alongside the Metrolink staff. We could see him waving a large knife in the air shouting threats. 

'I drew my Taser and Tom drew his baton, the Taser was deployed but the suspect immediately charged towards me leaping in the air and stabbing my shoulder. I grabbed him and we ended up on the floor, together we managed to restrain him.

'It was all over within seconds. The Metrolink Staff and my team acted professionally, with restraint and with great bravery in confronting the male. I want to thank them all for their actions on New Years Eve.

'Marsha, Tom and Ashleigh have a combined length of service of less than six years; to confront, act and deal with this type of shocking incident so soon in their career is commendable. I know this would have been a horrific experience for the two victims and I hope they are continuing to recover well'

A woman was injured when she and a four-year-old girl were shot as they sat in a parked car yesterday evening.
 
The shooting unfolded on a housing estate in the Dovecot area of Liverpool at around 7.30pm yesterday.
 
Shots were fired at a Volkswagen car which the woman and child were in. Luckily, the young girl was not injured.

A 13-year-old girl is in hospital fighting for her life after a machete-wielding gang broke into her home and stabbed her. 

She was attacked last night at 9.15pm in her home in Lisnaskea, Northern Ireland.

A 41-year-old woman was stabbed in the leg but is no longer in hospital and there was also an 11-month-old baby boy in the house but he was left unharmed.

Police were scrambled to Oldham leisure centre at around 4.30pm yesterday to reports of four youths aged between 16 and 19 being stabbed.

A 20-strong gang set upon four tree surgeons in Rochdale, England, calling them “white bastards” and cutting off a teenage worker’s hand with an axe.
27-year-old Habibur Rahman, of Milnrow Road, Rochdale, gathered the mob after the workers had stopped him from abusing an elderly woman, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Rahman, incensed that he had been “disrespected” on his “territory”, tracked the four workers to the property they were working on in the rape gang blighted city, blocking them in by parking his car across the driveway while the mob approached armed with weapons including a claw hammer, knives, machetes, a knuckle-duster — and the fateful axe.

“I am not going to let them leave,” Rahman said from his car, abusing the workers as “white bastards” who were in his “country”, the court heard.

“They’re going to get what they deserve. They’re going to get stabbed.”

One of the workers, who was just eighteen years old, interposed himself as a “peacemaker”, “completely defenceless” — only for the member of Rahman’s mob armed with the axe, Mohammed Awais Sajid, or ‘Skinny’, to suddenly slam the weapon into the young man’s chest, smashing through his ribs and collapsing a lung.

“[Sajid] followed up with a 360 degree spin of his arm, an act which was doubtless employed to enhance the speed and devastation of the attack,” recalled prosecutor Tim Storrie.

“The blow itself was aimed at the victim’s head. He was dimly aware at this stage of the weeping of blood down into his waistband. He was turning his body, attempting to leave the scene.

“Through good fortune, he said he realised the axe was above him aiming for his head. He put his arm up to defend himself and the blade essentially severed his arm at the wrist.”

The dreadful incident was only brought to a close by one of the tree surgeons revving a chainsaw at the mob to scare them away — although not before Rahman had shattered another of the worker’s noses with a knuckle-duster.

Their teenage victim had to be airlifted to hospital for life-saving emergency surgery and reattachment of his hand — which will never be restored to its full function — which has been followed by another five operations.

Incredibly, Sajid, of Moss Cottage, Kings Road, Rochdale, was acquited of attempted murder. MEN reports that he was instead convicted of  a “section 18 wounding” and handed an 18-year term — although there is no indication that this was anything other than a standard determinate sentence, meaning he will almost certainly be automatically released on licence at the halfway point, if not sooner.

Rahman himself was given a four-and-a-half-year term, while brother Zillur Rahma and mob member Arsan Ali each received four-year terms for conspiracy to commit violent disorder — although again, it is standard practice in England that such terms are only served behind bars until their halfway point.
