Michael Fortson, a Doulos Board Member expects to leave Thursday for
Tanzania, an important country in Eastern/Central Africa. It's the home
of the vast Serengeti Plain where the migratory herds of wild game are
still to be seen--one of the most important game preserve areas in the
world.
For the Fortsons and Doulos, Tanzania represents more importantly a
great opportunity to serve God in something here-to-fore sadly neglected
in that part of the world--that' s the care of unwanted and abandoned
new-borns. Thousands of new-born infants die each year in Africa because
parents simply abandon them and leave them to die uncared for.
By the end of this year (2012) we hope to have a functioning orphans
facility called Neema House (Neema means "grace") staffed with
hard-working and dedicated people. Claire Upshaw, a British lady will be
the director of the home. She is already well known in Tanzania and many
people including the police call her when a newborn is found and needs
help. Neema House will be able to house, clothe, and feed these infants
with your help and with the help of Doulos people in Texas and
elsewhere.
Would any of you like to go to Africa and dedicate a few weeks of your
life toward caring for these babies? Doulos hopes to sponsor some trips
to Africa in addition to our continuing trips to India. We need to hear
from you if you are interested.
While Michael is in Tanzania, his wife Dorris will continue to raise
funds and promote Neema House. We will try to keep all of you posted on
the events that are developing. Thanks for your encouragement, support
and prayers. Ezra Ochola who works with Doulos in Kenya is planning on
travelling to Tanzania to meet with Michael and discuss how the message
of Jesus and the Christian services to children can be strengthened in
that area.
