83% of Israelis See Trump As 'Pro-Israel Leader', But Only 3% Think He'll Move Embassy

An overwhelming majority of Israelis – 83 percent – believe President-elect Donald Trump will be a pro-Israel leader, found a recent poll released by the Ruderman Family Foundation on Monday, despite the fact that most do not expect him to fulfill his campaign promise of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Only three percent of the 500 people surveyed said that they expected Trump to make the highly political move, which President Barack Obama recently vetoed for the last time during his presidency.
Long-standing American policy dictates that sitting presidents “delay” the Jerusalem Embassy Act, which would see the embassy moved to the capital, at six-month intervals. Obama approved his last veto on Thursday; the next time it comes due, Trump will be president. Whether Trump will break with tradition or not remains to be seen.
Of those polled, 43 percent believe there is also “no chance” that Trump will dismantle the Iran nuclear deal as he had previously vowed to do.

IDF Soldiers Desperately in Need of Prayer Shawls, Tefillin in Field

By providing religious IDF soldiers with specially-designed army versions of necessary ritual objects like prayer shawls and tefillin (phylacteries), one special organization is easing the entrance of ultra-Orthodox Jews, also known as Haredim, into the Israeli army.
“The army advanced the conscription of Haredim before properly preparing for their special religious needs,” shared Yosef Bar-David, founder of The Israeli Soldiers’ Fund (ISF), an organization focused on aiding religious IDF soldiers to succeed both in their army service as well as maintain their Biblically-commanded lifestyle, with Breaking Israel News. “ISF works with the army by providing religious articles to soldiers who need them.”

Netanyahu: Gov’t ‘Working Overtime’ to Find Solution for Amona

Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Sunday that government ministers are “working overtime” to prevent a clash with the residents of Amona, but added a demand for coalition members to commit to honoring whatever compromise is ultimately worked out.
“We are working overtime to find a responsible solution to the issue of Amona and for similar cases in the future. We are working to reach a rational solution and I expect all of you, ministers and MKs, to respect it. We must act responsibly and prudently here for a common goal: To defend the settlements, and to defend the court. We are working in both spheres,” Netanyahu said.
Over the weekend, the prime minister instructed the defense ministry to begin preparations for moving Amona to a temporary location on an adjacent hilltop, and again to a permanent location, probably next summer. In exchange for the replacement locations, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has proposed that the residents vacate the site on their own.

Twitter Grants Verification to Muslim Brotherhood

The social media platform Twitter recently granted verification to the official mouthpiece of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Egypt-based Islamist organization that has been designated as a terrorist organization in its home country since December 2013.
The Muslim Brotherhood operates through a website known as Ikhwan Web, which serves as the Brotherhood’s “official” English-speaking feed. Many are critiquing Twitter’s decision to grant Ikhwan Web verification, saying it legitimizes the group’s anti-Semitic propaganda.
“Verifying the Muslim Brotherhood’s Twitter feed helps further their narrative of civilization-Jihad,” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), told the Washington Free Beacon

The prophet Ezekiel prophesied that in the end of days, Jerusalem would be an international point of contention, and as President Barack Obama mulls a possibly devastating blow to Israel during his last weeks in the White House, that prophecy seems closer to fruition than ever.
An international anti-Jerusalem scenario which sees President Obama using his final days in office to damage Israel via the UN, perhaps by allowing a resolution creating a Palestinian state to pass the Security Council without a US veto, is familiar to those who have read the prophet Zechariah.
And it shall come to pass in that day that I will make Yerushalayim a stone of burden for all the peoples; all that burden themselves with it shall be sore wounded; and all the nations of the earth shall be gathered together against it. Zechariah 12:3
The connection was made by David Mark, chief editor of Israel Rising and political activist for Jewish indigenous rights in Israel, in a political commentary on his website Sunday.
“There is a clear trajectory to create a situation where just by an American abstention, a de-facto Palestinian State will be created,” he warned.

Jared Kushner’s family foundation has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to various Jewish and Israeli causes in recent years, and some of that money has funded projects in Judea and Samaria, Haaretz reported Monday. This puts the Kushner clan in good company with its in-laws, the Trumps, who have also given funds to support Jewish residents in the Biblical heartland.
Jared Kushner, President-elect Donald Trump’s Orthodox Jewish son-in-law and advisor, sits on the board of the Charles and Seryl Kushner Foundation, named for his parents. Among the millions of dollars the family donates annually, money is directed to yeshivas (religious seminaries) and organizations located past Israel’s Green Line.
Much of the donations go towards teaching Torah to religious Jewish youth. In 2013, the foundation gave $20,000 to American Friends of Beit El Yeshiva, which supports a program for religious youth in a community in Judea.
It gave several donations, amounting to about $15,000, to the Etzion Foundation, which supports three educational programs located in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc south of Jerusalem – Yeshivat Har Etzion, Kibbutz Migdal Oz and the Herzog College teachers’ training institution.

The State of New York has created a blacklist of a foreign companies supporting the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel, The NY Post reported Friday.
Back in June, Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters–just before going out to lead the annual Celebrate Israel Parade: “Today, I’m going to sign an Executive Order that says very clearly, we are against the BDS movement, and it’s very simple. If you boycott against Israel, New York will boycott you. If you divert revenues from Israel, New York will divert revenues from you. If you sanction Israel, New York will sanction you, period. Thank you.
“We are against the BDS movement in every way,” the governor reiterated. “We are against companies that do it. We are against the promotion of it by companies and by entities. I am very proud to be the first governor in the United States of America to sign this Executive Order, and I encourage every governor in this country to sign such an Executive Order.”

For the first time, Israel refused to allow an activist for the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement into the country on the grounds that she is working against the interests of the state. The move sets a precedent which could see thousands of anti-Israel activists turned away at the airport.
Isabel Phiri, from Malawi, has had a long affiliation with the BDS movement, which seeks to undermine Israel through “nonviolent” economic attacks. She landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on Monday but, after consultations between Interior Minister Aryeh Dery and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, she was denied a tourist visa.
The incident came several months after Deri and Erdan announced an initiative to keep BDS supporters out of Israel, and deport any activists already in the country.

A 13.5 ft tall gold statue of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that was placed at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square early Tuesday morning will be removed, according to News 0404. The Israeli artist who put it there told Channel 2 News that his purpose was “to test the limits of freedom of expression in Israel in 2016.”
“Is the time ripe yet for placing a gold statue of the leader in the city square?” asked the artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, just in case it isn’t, probably. “Some will be repulsed by it, but many will actually be filled with a sense of strength and great pride.”

The anonymous artist, for whom this is his first political work, said he worked on his statue for about three months. The work is made of wood and polymers and painted gold. “Time will tell whether this was a provocation or prophecy,” he added.

Netanyahu asserted that Israel will do all in its power to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing the annual Saban Forum via video link, said he plans to discuss the “bad nuclear deal” with incoming President Donald Trump.

The deal not only prevents Iran from getting nukes, but actually helps the Islamic Republic to reach its goal, Netanyahu stressed.

The Israeli leader praised Trump for having a clear vision about America’s role on the global stage.

This year’s event – titled “Challenges for the Trump Administration in the Middle East – took place in Washington, D.C., at the Brooking Institution headquarters.

Pro-Israel Group Praises Trump’s Secretary of Defense Pick Gen. James Mattis

President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday evening that he would nominate retired Marine General James Mattis as his next secretary of defense.

“We are going to appoint ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis as our secretary of defense,” Trump said at a rally in Cincinnati.

Mattis, 66, is a retired four-star Marine general who served as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander from 2010-2013. His nickname stems from his widely praised leadership among his fellow Marines during the Battle of Fallujah in Iraq in 2004.

Last month, when it was rumored that Mattis would be Trump’s choice for defense secretary, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) urged the president-elect against the appointment over controversial statements Mattis has made about Israel.

At a 2013 Aspen Institute conference, Mattis said he “paid a military-security price every day as a commander of CENTCOM, because the Americans are seen as biased in support of Israel, and that moderates all the moderate Arabs who want to be with us, because they can’t come out publicly in support of people who don’t show respect for the Arab Palestinians.” Mattis also described Israel’s control over Judea and Samaria as “unsustainable” and warned that Jewish settlements would turn Israel into an “apartheid” state.

The ZOA said Mattis’s past comments “revealed a lack of appreciation for and understanding of the extraordinary value to American security resulting from a strong American-Israeli alliance and a secure Israel.” As such, ZOA President Morton Klein opposed Mattis’s rumored appointment.
But the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) dismissed the concerns over Mattis, calling them “ill-founded and unfair.”

“On the larger U.S. military and strategic issues related to the Middle East…General Mattis has notably and indisputably distinguished himself in advocating for a more robust U.S. military posture to counter, contain and deter Iran, even at the peril of his military career,” JINSA said in a statement, adding that “General Mattis’ outlook on these issues aligns perfectly with Israel’s, which considers an aggressive Iran its greatest strategic threat, and a nuclear Iran to be an existential threat.”

Nevada Introduces Anti-BDS Legislation

Nevada Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison and pro-Israel activists introduced a new resolution seeking to counter the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The proposed Senate Bill 26 will seek to counter the discriminatory environment fostered by the BDS movement, according to the Israeli-American Coalition for Action (IAC for Action), which is promoting the measure. Nevada’s anti-BDS resolution will be similar to others passed by more than a dozen U.S. states in recent years.

“We have a unique opportunity in the coming legislative session to send a powerful message that the hateful and discriminatory environment fostered by BDS has no place in Nevada,” said IAC for Action Chairman Shawn Evenhaim. “The IAC for Action is grateful to Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison and the state legislators of Nevada for their courageous leadership on this issue.”

Neville Pokroy, chairperson of the IAC for Action Government Relations Committee in Las Vegas, added that the Israeli-American community is ready to unite with other Nevada residents to “make a big difference in the fight against hate and discrimination.”

The Cuban Communist dictator, who murdered tens of thousands of his own people, imprisoned tens of thousands more, caused a million Cubans to flee their homeland and transformed an island paradise into a water-enclosed prison, was a key ally of Palestinian terrorists in their war to destroy Israel.
Castro’s support for the PLO and its longtime terrorist master Yasser Arafat spanned five decades. Castro’s secret police, the DGI, trained Palestinian terrorists both in Cuba and in the Middle East.

According to the CIA, several hundred Palestinian terrorists were trained in Cuba in the 1970s. Cuban trainers also worked with the PLO in Algiers and Damascus and later in training terrorists from around the world at PLO training camps in Lebanon in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Military training in terrorist tactics wasn’t the only way that Castro helped Arafat. He also provided the PLO with diplomatic cover and political guidance. Palestinian terrorists, including Arafat, began routinely visiting Cuba in the early 1960s. Castro welcomed the formation of the PLO in 1964. His military and intelligence officers met with Arafat and other senior Palestinian terrorists in Algiers and Damascus as early as 1965.

The Houris: Islam’s ‘Sexual Superwomen’

Last month, when the battle for Mosul began, Islamic State “caliph” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi reportedly promised four extra Houris (supernatural, celestial women designed for sexual purposes)—atop the other 72 virgins—to all jihadis who die fighting the infidel forces according to Arabic media accounts.
Al-Baghdadi did this during an extra “fiery sermon” wherein he recounted 15 hadiths and three stories dealing with the Houris in the context of the original Muslim conquest of Mosul, circa. 637, at the hands of Muhammad’s companions (the sahahba). After promising his followers that “blood will run like rivers in the [forthcoming] battle,” al-Baghdadi declared: “All, without exception, will enter paradise as martyrs. Moreover, you will enter paradise with four more Houris than other martyrs. For just as you stand by me now, so will they stand by you, or under you, or above you, so that you might forget what will happen to you by way of violence, death, and degradation in this war.”
While it is easy to dismiss this report as a hoax (among other things, it doesn’t explain why al-Baghdadi thinks they will get four more heavenly concubines), the problem is that Islam—from its history and doctrines, to the exhortation of its leaders, from Muhammad to al-Baghdadi—is full of stories and enticements concerning the Houris.

Religious Jews Cheer Trump’s Education Pick as Champion of Religious Schools

Several influential American Orthodox Jewish organizations have welcomed President-elect Donald Trump’s appointment of Betsy DeVos as education secretary in his administration, seeing it as a harbinger of major reform which will ease the high costs of private Jewish schooling.

Agudath Israel of America (AIA), an Orthodox leadership and policy organization, quickly praised DeVos, citing its personal experience with the billionaire activist for education reform.

“Agudath Israel has worked closely with Mrs. DeVos for many years, together with other organizations and legislators from both sides of the aisle, to give parents educational options for their children,” read the AIA’s statement, published in The Yeshiva World.

“Thanks to that effort, hundreds of thousands of children across the United States are receiving a quality education they couldn’t otherwise afford, including many students who choose to attend Jewish day schools.”

AIA’s national director of state relations, Rabbi A.D. Motzen, noted DeVos’s “passionate support for school choice”, or the supporting of private education with public, government funds.

Currently, American education policy cuts religious schools off from public funding due to the Constitutional separation of church and state. The exorbitant cost of private Jewish education, which most religious Jews consider a basic necessity for instilling Jewish values in a secular world, puts serious financial pressure on Jewish families. Day school tuition can cost up to $12,000 a year, while high school tuition is often double that number.

DeVos, as the leader of the pro-charter school American Federation for Children, supports an education model incorporating school choice which would see billions in federal money earmarked towards chartering independent schools and funding private school vouchers for less affluent students – including religious schools.

“Under her leadership, we will reform the U.S. education system and break the bureaucracy that is holding our children back so that we can deliver world-class education and school choice to all families,” Trump said in his announcement of DeVos’s nomination on November 23.

Nathan Diament, executive director of the policy branch of the Orthodox Union, the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the U.S., also hailed the announcement with satisfaction. Diament said the appointment signaled that Trump would keep a campaign promise which had made him “attractive” to Orthodox voters.

School choice, Diament told the Algemeiner, is the “number one kitchen-table domestic policy issue for the Orthodox community.”

Trump’s proposal of a $20 billion earmark for private education “has the potential to greatly assist the Jewish community with its affordability challenge,” he said.

Such a move would put more control in the parents’ hands, he argued. “The regulators of the schools should be the parents, the parents who care for their children.”

Senate Renews Iran Sanctions Law,Leaving Door Open For Trump

The US Senate voted on Thursday to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for ten years, leaving the option open for President elect Donald Trump to reinstate sanctions against Iran if it violates the deal concerning its nuclear program.

Though the Iran deal pushed through by President Barack Obama last year was highly divisive, the extension passed overwhelmingly yesterday. Two weeks ago, it passed the House by a vote 419-1, and yesterday it passed the congress unanimously, 99-0. The bill must now be signed by the president.

“We’ll let you know what the president decides to do with it,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said at a press conference on Thursday.

Originally written in 1996 during the presidency of Bill Clinton, the ISA imposed economic sanctions on firms doing business with Iran. Originally, the bill included sanctions against Libya.

With the act set to expire at the end of December, Senator Bob Menendez (Dem) explained the need for the extension.

“If the sanctions architecture has expired, then we have no sanctions which we can snap back,” he explained to the press..

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker told Reuters that the renewal is intended to keep all options open for the incoming administration regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal with Iran.

“Extending the Iran Sanctions Act … ensures President-elect Trump and his administration have the tools necessary to push back against the regime’s hostile actions,” Corker said in a statement.

The incoming Republican president spoke out strongly against the Iran deal during his campaign, calling it a “disaster” and vowing to “dismantle” it. His recent candidates for security positions all seem to be like-minded, putting the future of Obama’s pet-project in jeopardy.

Iran reacted in anger, claiming the extension was a violation of the JCPOA signed in July 2015. Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei told members of the volunteer Basij forces in Tehran, “So far, the current US government has committed several violations with regard to the nuclear agreement,” adding, “The most recent of them is the 10-year extension of the sanctions. If these sanctions are extended, it will surely constitute a violation of the JCPOA and they (the US) should know that the Islamic Republic will definitely react to it.

Citing security concerns, US President Barack Obama vetoed for final time the law to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In a memorandum to the Secretary of State John Kerry, Obama wrote:

Pursuant to the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, including section 7(a) of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 (Public Law 104-45) (the “Act”), I hereby determine that it is necessary, in order to protect the national security interests of the United States, to suspend for a period of 6 months the limitations set forth in sections 3(b) and 7(b) of the Act.

You are authorized and directed to transmit this determination to the Congress, accompanied by a report in accordance withsection 7(a) of the Act, and to publish the determination in the Federal Register. This suspension shall take effect after transmission of this determination and report to the Congress.

This annual presidential custom dates back to 1995, when Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act, for the purposes of initiating and funding the relocation of the Embassy of the United States in Israel to Jerusalem, no later than May 31, 1999. The act also called for Jerusalem to remain an undivided city and for it to be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel. The law allowed the president to veto for security considerations. Every six months since the law passed, every US president has done so, preventing the move from taking place.

During his campaign, president elect Donald Trump promised he would move the embassy to Jerusalem. He generated enthusiasm for his campaign last year when he made that promise at a conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a pro-Israel lobbying group.

Nevertheless, shortly after the election,Walid Phares, a senior policy aide to Trump, seemed to backpedal on this pledge in a BBC interview when he stated the Trump administration would only move the embassy to Jerusalem “under consensus.” He did not define whose consensus he meant, or on what terms.

“Many presidents of the United States have committed to do that, and he said as well that he will do that, but he will do it under consensus,” Phares said.

Using this promise to attract pro-Israel voters and then reneging is an effective campaign poly used by both parties. Both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush vowed to move the embassy in Israel and then vetoed the law when it crossed their desks.

Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel since 1950 and officially annexed the eastern half of the city after unifying it in the 1967 Six Day War.

Israel’s UN Envoy Slams General Assembly Head for Wearing Palestinian Flag Scarf

The UN again blatantly displayed that it is biased against Israel and in favor of the Palestinians.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Danny Danon slammed UN General Assembly President Peter Thomson for wearing a Palestinian flag scarf.

Thomson wore the scarf on Tuesday at a meeting of the UN’s Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) that marked International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The special session, initiated by the Palestinian UN delegation, came on the anniversary of the UN Partition Plan of November 29, 1947, which led to the creation of the State of Israel.

“It’s unacceptable for the president of the UN General Assembly, whose position is a symbol of neutrality and stateliness, to wrap himself in a Palestinian flag and participate in an event the sole purpose of which is to attack and besmirch the state of Israel,” Danon said. “This is living, unequivocal proof of the bias against Israel and the slander spread about us at the UN.”

In his address to the UN General Assembly, Danon questioned whether the Palestinians really want statehood and argued that the Palestinians have rejected every Israeli offer for peace.

“Do the Palestinians even want a state? History tells us that the answer is no. If the Palestinians really wanted peace, we could have had peace decades ago. The Palestinians reject every Israeli offer and every plan and respond with waves of violence and terror,” he said.

During his speech, Danon held up the front page of The New York Times from Nov. 30, 1947, the day after the Partition Plan vote, with headlines that read “Assembly Votes Palestine Partition” and “Arabs Walk Out…Disavow Any Partition Role.”

Danon added that the Palestinian Authority (PA) “pays lip-service to these [peace] initiatives because it pays well. The real goal of the PA is to continue to exist as a corrupt entity living off the goodwill of the international community without the responsibilities of governing. And they know the only way to do so is to continue the conflict.”

The General Assembly also adopted six resolutions critical of Israel Tuesday. The resolutions included measures ignoring Jewish ties to holy sites in Jerusalem, allocating resources to help promote the Palestinian narrative, and calling on Israel to withdraw from the “occupied territories.”

President Barack Obama has “nearly ruled out” any lame-duck efforts to push a negotiation framework on Israel through the United Nations (UN), and US officials say this is largely due to Donald Trump’s unexpected victory.

As early as last March, Obama was known to be considering a last-ditch bid for Middle East peace through the UN. Before the presidential election, Obama had ordered up an “options menu” for proceeding with an effort to restart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians through the UN during his last months in office.

However, pursuing the type of peace plan Obama favored was only possible under the assumption that Democrat Hillary Clinton would succeed him, the Associated Press reported.

Clinton, who campaigned on a strongly pro-Israel platform, might have softened Obama’s terms, but would likely have been willing to work within the UN framework established by Obama.

Trump’s election changed the equation. The Republican President-elect made clear during his campaign that he does not see Israel’s settlements as an obstacle to peace and believes Jerusalem should be recognized as Israel’s capital – positions in complete opposition to those of the Obama administration.

Following his win, Trump’s transition team quickly warned Obama that pushing agendas “contrary to the president-elect’s position” would be seen as an antagonistic move likely to strain the process of passing power to Trump.

“On big, transformative issues where President Obama and President-elect Trump are not in alignment, I don’t think it’s in keeping with the spirit of the transition” to continue advancing policies “that clearly don’t match Trump’s positions,” a Trump advisor told Politico.

While Trump has said he is eager to make “the ultimate deal” between Israel and the Palestinians, he is not interested in “coercing” either party, Trump’s Israel advisor, Jason Greenblatt, said earlier in the month, assuring Israel, “He doesn’t intend to force a solution.”

Obama’s backing down comes as a relief to Israeli leaders, who had been bracing for a “November surprise” from the lame-duck president in the form of a UN resolution which could upset the balance of power in favor of the Palestinians, and to pro-Israel American lawmakers, a group of whom urged Obama in September not to abandon Israel at the UN.

With less than two months left in office, Obama is now “highly unlikely” to approve any UN measures which would endanger Israel’s position, US officials have said.

According to London-based Arab newspaper Rai al Youm, Israel attacked overnight Wednesday a weapons storage facility outside Damascus belonging to the Syrian army and a military convoy.

IAF planes attacked an armory of the Syrian army’s fourth division, and a convoy near the highway connecting Damascus and Beirut, Lebanon. The convoy was reportedly preparing to haul a large weapons load for Hezbollah. The attack consisted of two separate sorties.

According to Lebanese website el Nashra, the attack took place at 1:20 Wednesday morning, as four loud explosions were heard from the outskirts of Damascus. The armory, located near the highway, sustained major damages.

So far there has been no report of the Syrian army firing at the two IAF attacks. In September, President Assad’s army shot at Israeli planes flying over Quneitra, in southern Syria, near the Israeli Golan Heights border.

Is Turkey’s president calling for a Muslim holy war against Israel?

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is urging “all Muslims” to defend Jerusalem from Israel and stand for the Palestinian cause, striking a tough stance and criticizing Israel despite recently improved ties between the two countries.

Erdogan, the president of majority Muslim Turkey, said Tuesday “it is the common duty of all Muslims to embrace the Palestinian cause and protect Jerusalem” and that safeguarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque should not be left to children armed with nothing but stones.

This appears to be a clear call to the Muslim world to take up arms against Israel.

Speaking at the first annual conference on Jerusalem in Istanbul, the Turkish leader also criticized an Israeli proposal to make mosques reduce the volume of loudspeakers issuing the call to prayer, calling the proposed bill “irrational” and “conscienceless.”

His comments come as Israel and Turkey prepare to exchange ambassadors as part of a reconciliation deal.

Put Your Pen to the Document, Mr. Trump!

Once Trump is sworn in Jan. 20, and his advisors and cabinet are in place, it is incumbent upon him not only to fulfill his promise to the millions who voted for him, but also to demonstrate to the international community that America stands firmly with our only democratic ally in the Middle East.

President-elect Donald J. Trump’s campaign addressed sensitive Middle East topics that included relocating the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem—thus recognizing it as Israel’s de facto capital. Though Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is firmly established by history and archeology, the U.S. Embassy’s relocation there has been a long-standing, yet hot-button issue.

Despite congressional support for the move and the resulting 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act, presidential waivers have circumvented its implementation with every successive administration, starting with former President Bill Clinton. While the primary reason given for suspending this act is “to protect the national security interests of the United States” (Presidential Memorandum — Suspension of Limitations under the Jerusalem Embassy Act), every excuse in the book has been given for not signing the legislation, which lands on the president’s desk every six months. Until now.

Trump vowed that the embassy’s relocation to Jerusalem would be one of his first priorities upon taking office Jan. 20. After presidential hedging over the issue, and the marked chill in U.S.-Israeli relations under Obama, Israel finally will have a friend in the White House who comprehends her value to the United States and the increasingly menacing threats to her national security.
It is essential that Trump and his team move expeditiously to relocate the U.S. Embassy as one of the first items on his agenda. As a businessman with no political background, he undoubtedly will rely on the team he is now putting together, one that will include political, foreign affairs and military experts with knowledge of the Middle East, and a penchant to cut to the chase through the Gordian knot of minutia surrounding this issue. As wise King Solomon wrote,“There is safety in a multitude of counselors.”

While Trump’s move will likely provoke an uproar among Muslim states and their allies, we will soon have a president in the White House who has pledged to “make America great again.” America will only be great once it sheds its paper-tiger image, which has dismayed people at home and abroad, perplexing our allies and bolstering our enemies. It is evident that Trump intends to elevate America’s image by exercising strength in leadership, and thus restoring American influence overseas.

A White House That is for Settling the Land Of Israel

The Trump White House is shaping up to be one that is comfortable with the ways of Rav Kook, Menachem Begin and Ze’ev Jabotinsky. Free market values, a whole Land of Israel and a stand against radical terrorists.
In 2008, Barack Obama said: “I think there is a strain within the pro-Israel community that says unless you adopt a unwavering pro-Likud approach to Israel that you’re anti-Israel and that can’t be the measure of our friendship with Israel.”

Obama reportedly described Israel’s elected government as “extreme right”, and told Peter Beinart, the American Jewish journalist who supports a boycott of Israel to “hang in there.”

In a 2015 speech at the White House, he noted “I came to know Israel as a young man through these incredible images of kibbutzim, and Moshe Dayan, and Golda Meir, and Israel overcoming incredible odds in the ’67 war. The notion of pioneers who set out not only to safeguard a nation, but to remake the world. Not only to make the desert bloom, but to allow their values to flourish; to ensure that the best of Judaism would thrive.”

But the reality is that Obama has consistently been hostile towards Israel.

If the Obama White House viewed Israel through the prism of kibbutzim, Moshe Dayan and Golda Meir, the Trump White House is shaping up to be one that is comfortable with the ways of Rav Kook, Menachem Begin and Ze’ev Jabotinsky. Free market values, a whole Land of Israel and a stand against radical terrorists.

To Jews, family and children are everything…..Donald’s daughter Ivanka has converted to orthodox Judaism. Donald is handing his business over to his children. That is the goal of every Jewish businessman in history. Donald is the most relentless person I’ve ever met. Relentless is a very uniquely Jewish trait. Jews are relentless fighters- we have survived thousands of years of hate, discrimination, persecution, robbery, slavery and murder.

How strong are Donald’s bonds to Israel? Jason Greenblatt, is one of three members of Trump’s Israel Advisory Committee, he’s Modern Orthodox, was a student of Yeshivat Har Etzion and notes that this administration “does not view Jewish settlements as an obstacle to peace.” David Friedman, Trump’s other Israel advisor is an outspoken supporter of Judea & Samaria, and serves as the President of American Friends of Bet El Institutions.As he’s written perceptively on Arutz Sheva, “The US State Department – with a hundred-year history of anti-Semitism — promotes the payoff of corrupt Palestinians in exchange for their duplicitous agreement to support a two-state solution.”

Can any friend of Israel believe that these people can betray the Jewish State? The Trump White House has the potential to be a tremendous friend of Israel.

The media bubble is a lie. Everything inside it is a lie. It’s a virtual space filled with propaganda as pervasive as anything out of the USSR or North Korea which utterly misrepresents everything to those inside it.
Media schizophrenia.

Every quantum leap in mass communications also made possible a vast improvement in propaganda techniques. Nazi and Soviet propaganda looks as crude to us as a Babbage calculating machine. Virtual reality isn’t something that’s coming. It’s here. It’s been here for a while. The potent combination of media budgets and crowdsourced social media distribution has allowed for a previously unparalleled level of propaganda that creates and inhabits its own virtual reality.

There’s a name for that sort of thing. Schizophrenia.

What happens when the schizophrenic media reality collapses when it comes into too sharp of a conflict with reality is the same behavior that schizophrenics exhibit when their perceptions of the world conflict with the real world.

The people venting and rioting and screaming were living in a cozy reality. Everyone in that progressive reality understood that history was on their side, that the majority was with them and that the right was a decaying mass of racists and corporations soon to be swept away by the tide of change.

But this wasn’t reality. It was a carefully constructed narrative that fooled even the people who were building it. It was a virtual world overlaid over the real world. Its narratives were so integrated with the real world that it seemed as if it were real. There were stories and polls. Everyone in their social media bubble, except a few crazy uncles agreed with them. All the celebrities were on board.

And then the holodeck got switched off.
It wasn’t a unique experience. Most Nazis didn’t understand what was happening when the tanks broke through to Berlin. The average Russian wasn’t prepared for the fall of the USSR.

Propaganda is a very effective tool for managing a population. But the trouble with a lie is that sooner or later it falls apart. A narrative isn’t reality. It’s a story we tell. Reality has no story except one shaped by a far higher power than any mere mortal. No ideological victory is permanent.

The ideological narrative of the right side of history imbibed by the left is a delusion. Ideological victories are temporary. Even cultural dominance is a very slippery thing. It is a subtle tool that isn’t much good for the gross kind of control that it wants. A dictatorship like the USSR only lasts for so long. And then it falls and its ideology that everyone was forced to study once is forgotten.

A society can be transformed and changed. But the results of that change will ultimately be non-ideological. The USSR gave way to a totalitarian regime that is uninterested in Marxism-Leninism, but has duplicated everything else from the cult of personality to the secret police to the bribe economy to the pointless efforts at expansionism that waste resources and feed the hatred of its neighbors. The Communists failed to fundamentally transform Russia into their ideological paradise, but they certainly left a huge crater of a non-ideological stamp on it.

Obama has changed America. But the left will find that these changes will be largely non-ideological. Radical change breaks the system. It leaves scars. It crushes civic institutions. That. more than any of the ideological victories, will be the real impact of the Obama years.

The left’s conviction that demographic change will give them ultimate power was always a foolish delusion. Latin America is not an exclusively left-wing domain, though it can sometimes look that way. Barring an overt tyranny, there would always be a right. Its values might have little in common with those of traditional American conservatism, but it would exist even if the left managed to achieve its demographic transformation.

The left’s efforts at absolute power scar societies. That can be easily seen across Asia, Latin America and the territories of the Warsaw Pact. It can also be increasingly seen in the United States.
The level of political polarization continues to rise. There is increasingly no middle ground. The left blames this on Republicans, but historically it’s the left that has abused its power to force change more than the right. Obama taught a master class in simply doing whatever you want because history is on your side. The reaction to that led directly to President Trump. And too much of the left is incapable of the self-awareness needed to grasp this simple fact.

The rules of a society exist for a reason. If you break them, expect everyone else to break them too. And expect that the result will be a society in which those rules no longer matter.

If you walk into a bar and shoot someone… and then get away with it, then the next step is that everyone else will be doing it too. The left is shocked, baffled and angered at the consequences of the violence it has inflicted on American society. It has inhabited the narrative of victimhood so thoroughly that it isn’t aware of the fact that its “change” is a form of violence.

Instead of stopping, the left is doubling down. It is convinced that it can break through if it pushes hard enough. And it’s probably right. But its victories are temporary. The damage is long-lasting.

The left broke through the Bush years with Obama. But it hadn’t grasped that its unprecedented delegitimization of Bush led directly to the Republican delegitimization of Obama. It wasn’t racism that led Republicans to reject Obama as illegitimate. That was part of the comforting narrative that the left told itself. Republicans were reacting to the new rules created by the left.

Bush was illegitimate. Therefore Obama was illegitimate. Therefore Trump is illegitimate. Therefore whoever succeeds him will be illegitimate. This is a non-ideological change created in the name of ideology. Any future president will be deemed illegitimate by the losing side.

The right is not free of blame in all this. But it’s reacting to what the left does rather than initiating it. It takes the ball and runs with it further down the field. Then the left runs with it down the field for ten times the distance. And the rest is history and crumbling pillars and great wastelands.

The left won’t win. But it can destroy America. And many of its ideologues hate the country enough that they would consider that a victory. If nothing else, America provided a model that served as a counterweight to the ideal leftist society. Wrecking that model is already an ideological win for the left. The right didn’t have to fix Communist societies. That was a bonus. It just had to wreck them. The left doesn’t have to fix America. It just has to wreck it so that it’s seen as unworkable.

The question though is how many Americans to the left of center really want to be part of such a project. Not many. That is why the media bubble really exists. The narratives exist less for the sake of the center, let alone the right, but to manage the constituency of the left. The narrative is already healing after the shock of the Trump win. Activists are being urged to rally around victim allies and continue fighting until the bitter end. The bitter end being the collapse of everything.

The bubble is a lie. Everything inside it is a lie. It’s a virtual space filled with propaganda as pervasive as anything out of the USSR or North Korea which utterly misrepresents everything to those inside it. The USSR could keep the game going longer because it controlled the vertical space of total power as well as the horizontal space of messaging. The left’s grip on power is shaky. Its grip on messaging is total. And that is where media schizophrenia creeps in.

Citizens of totalitarian regimes recognize that they are being lied to. Statistics show a level of recognition of media bias among Americans on par with that of any totalitarian regime.

The media should be panicking over such numbers. But it doesn’t care if 80 or 70 percent of Americans don’t trust them. They are a secondary audience. Its core goal is to manage the beliefs of those who do. They are the revolutionary vanguard. They have to be shaped and directed.

And when they look over the iron curtain and past the media wall, reality no longer fits the narrative. Media schizophrenia kicks in. And they lose their grip on reality and lose their minds.

Donald Trump and the Return of European Anti-Americanism

European criticism of Trump goes far beyond a simple displeasure with the man who will be the next president. The condemnation reveals a deep-seated contempt for the United States.

and for American voters who democratically elected a candidate committed to restoring American economic and military strength.

The primary cause of the global disorder is the lack of American leadership at home and abroad. A series of feckless decisions by Obama to reduce American military influence abroad have created geopolitical power vacuums that are being filled by countries and ideologies that are innately hostile to Western interests and values.

For the past seven decades, the U.S. has spent millions of dollars annually to guarantee German security, although Germany steadfastly refuses to honor a NATO pledge to spend 2% of GDP on defense spending. Germans are now offended that Trump is asking them to pay their fair share for their own defense.

Although President Obama’s foreign policy missteps have made Europe much less safe than it was eight years ago, European elites have overlooked Obama’s mistakes because he is a “globalist” who seems to favor recreating the U.S. in the European image. Trump, by contrast, is a nationalist who wants to rebuild the U.S. in the American, not the European, image.

European anti-Americanism is certain to escalate in the years ahead, not because of Trump or his policies, but because “globalists” appear desperate to save the failing European Union, an untransparent, unaccountable, anti-democratic, sovereignty-grabbing alternative to the nation state.

European anti-Americanism — which was on the wane during the presidency of Barack Obama, who steered the United States on a course of globalism rather than nationalism — is back with a vengeance.

Europe’s media establishment has greeted Donald Trump’s election victory with a vitriol not seen since the George W. Bush presidency, when anti-Americanism in Europe was at fever pitch.

Since the American election on November 9, European television, radio and print media have produced an avalanche of negative stories, editorials and commentary that seethe with rage over the outcome of the vote.

European criticism of Trump goes far beyond a simple displeasure with the man who will be the next president. If the past is any indication of the future, European anti-Americanism will be a pervasive feature of transatlantic relations during the Trump presidency.

Although European opinion-shapers have focused much of their indignation on the threat Trump allegedly poses to global order, the president-elect will inherit a world that is significantly more chaotic and insecure than it was when Obama became president in January 2009.

The primary cause of the global disorder is the lack of American leadership — leading from behind — at home and abroad.

A series of feckless decisions by Obama to reduce American military influence abroad have created geopolitical power vacuums that are being filled by countries and ideologies that are innately hostile to Western interests and values. China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and radical Islam — among many others — have all been emboldened to challenge the United States and its allies with impunity.

European elites have been mostly silent about Obama’s foreign policy failures, but are now lashing out at Trump for pledging to restore order by “making America great again.”

As during the Bush administration, anti-Americanism in Europe is once again being driven by Germany, a country that was effectively rebuilt by the United States after the Second World War. The Marshall Plan granted West Germany some $1.5 billion ($15 billion in 2016 dollars) in reconstruction aid between 1948 and 1951.

For the past seven decades, the United States has spent millions of dollars annually to guarantee German security, although Germany steadfastly refuses to honor a NATO pledge to spend a minimum of 2% of GDP on defense spending. Germany spent only 1.16% of GDP on its own defense in 2015 and 1.15% in 2016. German officials are now offended that Trump is asking them to pay their fair share for their own defense.

Following is a small sampling of recent European commentary on Donald Trump and the United States:

In Germany, the Hamburg-based newsmagazine Der Spiegel, one of the largest-circulation publications in Europe, published a cover with an image of a giant meteor in the shape of Trump’s head hurtling towards the earth. The headline reads: “The End of the World (As We Know It). The issue includes more than 50 pages of related content, including an article by Dirk Kurbjuweit entitled, “One-Hundred Years of Fear: America Has Abdicated Its Leadership of the West.” He wrote:

“For 100 years, the United States was the leader of the free world. With the election of Donald Trump, America has now abdicated that role. It is time for Europe, and Angela Merkel, to step into the void….

“Trump, who wants nothing to do with globalization; Trump, who preaches American nationalism, isolation, partial withdrawal from world trade and zero responsibility for a global problem like climate change….

“We now face emptiness — fear of the void. What will happen to the West, to Europe, to Germany without the United States as its leading power?

As fires rage across the Carmel region, the result of terrorist arson, some Israelis look to the Bible to understand a deeper lesson of what these flames mean.

A national emergency was declared as a fire of enormous proportions threatens entire regions in Israel. Over 60,000 residents were evacuated from the Haifa area, and public transportation was shut down in certain areas. Several houses and automobiles were consumed by the flames. Hundreds of firefighters struggled to react as fires cropped up suddenly in hundreds of separate spots, indicating the blazes were set intentionally. Greece and Cyprus sent fire-fighting airplanes to help. Newly set fires now threaten Jerusalem and the surrounding area.

Israel’s police chief Roni Alsheich said on Thursday afternoon that there were “some cases of arson, and lots of cases that are not arson…. It’s likely that there is a nationalistic motive in some of the arson cases.” Alsheich added: “Some suspects have been arrested… I don’t think it is organized (arson).”

Education Minister Naftali Bennet (Jewish Home) had no doubts, telling Channel 2 News the fires were “a major wave of arson… terrorism in every sense of the word.”

Malkah Fleisher, a Jerusalem resident originally from Texas, had no doubts that this was an attack on Israel, but she understood a deeper lesson in the tragedy. She opened her Bible and saw a clear link between the fires raging now and fire that once raged in the same place so many years ago.

“It dawned on me that this is not the first time the nation of Israel has seen fire on Mount Carmel,” she told Breaking Israel News. Fleisher took to social media and posted a powerful message, comparing the blaze raging out of control on the Carmel Mountain today to the holy fire Elijah the Prophet called down from the heavens when he faced off against the priests of Ba’al.

“Today, on this site of holy fire, our enemies are using fire against us. Is it a divine message for the nation? I’m not a prophet, I can’t rightly say,” she posted on Facebook. “But I KNOW that the duel is still on between Israel and our physical and spiritual enemies. May we merit to witness the destruction of those who seek to destroy us, and another miraculous rain on Carmel.”

“We need to recall the true value of that mountain and our ancient relationship with it, if not also to take the opportunity to do some introspection as that beloved mountain fights the flames which are trying to consume it,” Fleisher wrote. “The war for the mountain is still on. When the Jewish people know who they are and why they live on Har hacarmel – or anywhere else in Israel – they will have the confidence to do what is right. If those stories can come to our aid, then they are still a little bit alive.”

Malkah’s husband, Yishai Fleisher, the international spokesman for the holy city of Hebron, also learned a deep lesson while staring into the flames set by the enemies of Israel.

“The real tragedy is that these terrorists have a connection to nature and the land, but they use it to destroy,” noted Fleisher. “They know that the conditions, the drought and the strong winds, are perfect for this type of attack.”

“If we escaped the fires of the Holocaust, we’re certainly not going to succumb to this,” stated Fleisher, quoting the prophet Obadiah.

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame and the house of Esav for stubble and they shall kindle in them and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esav; for Hashemhath spoken. Obadiah 1:18

“This fire they lit will come back again, but in the manner that the prophet said,’ noted Fleisher.

Arson became a call to battle as Arabs flooded social media, praising the fires. Jerusalem Post reported that “Tel_Aviv_IsBurning” was the most common Arabic hashtag trending on Arab social media platforms on Thursday morning, many citing recent legislation to limit early morning muezzin (calls to prayer broadcast over loudspeakers) as the cause for what they saw as divine retribution.

Fleisher compared the burning of forests to the Philistines stopping up Abraham’s wells in order to drive Isaac away.

Now all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Avraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. Genesis 26:15

“The Philistines needed the water also,” noted Fleisher. “But they hated Isaac so much, and recognized that he was stronger, but their hatred for him, and for his God, was greater than their love of life,” said Fleisher. “The Jews have a connection to the land but we use it to make the desert bloom. This arson makes it so clear that it isn’t about a nationalist struggle. They don’t want to build.They just want to watch the land burn.”

“What they don’t understand is that the Jews have always and will always come back from the ashes. Jews are used to this,” Fleisher concluded. “We will just develop better fire-fighting systems and ways to grow forests. Our fire is a fire of creation, of building and family, of channeling God into the world.”

Brush Fires Blaze Out of Control Throughout Israel, Hundreds Evacuated

Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich said Tuesday evening that it will take at least two more days to bring a series of brush fires under control as fire crews continue to battle high winds and unseasonably dry conditions around the country.
As of this writing, at least five fires are burning out of control around the country, in Zichron Yaakov, Dolev, Kiryat Gat, Gush Etzion and the Western Galilee. More than 200 homes in Zichron Yaakov, south of Haifa, and Dolev, in the Binyamin region have been evacuated due to the fires. Thirteen people have been treated for smoke inhalation, mostly at Hillel Yafe Medical Center in Hadera. 20 homes have been damaged, including 12 that have been completely destroyed.
Health officials said that Zichron Yaakov residents should remain indoors with windows closed in order to avoid inhaling smoke.

A senior official from the Palestinian terror group Hamas believes President-elect Donald Trump is secretly Jewish due to Trump’s love for money.

“Trump loves the Jews, and not only because he likes the Jewish religion. I do not rule out the possibility that he is a Jew,” Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar told Al-Jazeera earlier this month, according to a new report from the Middle East Media Research Institute.

“He loves the Jewish religion,” al-Zahar added, “and the most important thing in the Jewish religion is Jewish money.”

Following Trump’s election victory, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the identity of the U.S. president makes little difference to the Palestinian terror group.

“The Palestinian people is not very much concerned about the changes in American policies towards the Palestinian cause because such a policy is constant and is based on bias in favor of the Israeli occupation,” Zuhri said. “However, we urge the American president to reevaluate this policy and to work on bringing justice to the Palestinians.”

Video of Heavenly Cloud Halo and Shofar Sounds Over Jerusalem Goes Viral [WATCH]

Two days before the Jewish holidays, a video of a strange cloud formation over Jerusalem accompanied by thunderous blasts from rams’ horns took the internet by storm, stunning millions in a pre-Judgement Day sight that seemed too good to be true. Unfortunately, it was.

The video showed a blue sky with a spectacular unbroken ring of glowing white clouds hanging low over the city. Filmed from a balcony, one man is seen from the back, staring at the amazing phenomenon, while another tells him in Hebrew to be quiet. The camera pans from side to side, filming the entire unbroken halo over Israel’s capital. The sound of many shofars (rams’ horns) is heard, the blasts rising and falling.

Heavenly Halo Over Jerusalem

The location seen in the video is easily recognizable to those familiar with Jerusalem. Filmed from a balcony in the prominent Holy Land Apartment complex in south Jerusalem, Teddy Stadium, a major sports venue, is seen in the foreground.

The video quickly began to attract attention on social media. The footage was used in another video which garnered over a million views on YouTube. Some commenters claimed it was a miraculous occurrence, while others rejected this claim, saying it was a naturally occurring phenomenon. Both sides of the argument were wrong.

Not only laypeople were fooled. Several religious sites, both Jewish and Christian, reposted the video enthusiastically. Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi, an Israeli rabbi who runs outreach programs, reposted the video with a screenshot outlining the image of a shofar that he claims appears in the center of the cloud halo.

Nana 10 Online, a Hebrew news site, succeeded in tracking down the source of the video. According to Nana, the man who filmed the video was quite surprised at the impact his video made. Wishing to remain nameless, he explained to Nana that he created the video on his cell-phone as a unique New Year’s greeting to his friends, altering the original with a video editing program called After Effects. He had posted it on his social media pages, from where it was reposted and shared, its popularity growing exponentially.

As social media becomes more prevalent with web-connected devices covering the planet’s surface, videos of unusual phenomenon become more common. Sometimes for pleasure and sometimes with mischievous intent, people create these videos on their computers. A similar rash of videos, recording unexplained shofar sounds around the world, appeared before the holidays last year. It could be that such videos will become a tradition, a precursor to the Jewish holidays, part prank, and part wake-up call.

But one day, it could be that a similar video will surface, filmed by an average bystander, showing the arrival of the Messiah. And that time, it won’t be edited.

An obscure 300-year old interpretation of the Book of Daniel presents a precise calculation which indicates the prophet spoke of this year as bringing the end of days. One rabbi agrees, believing that Daniel’s ancient, hidden secrets are being revealed now as never before.

Certainly one of the most prominent sources for prophecies concerning the end of days, Daniel’s prophecy of 70 weeks clearly refers to the end of times, but it is enigmatic and difficult to understand.

One explanation was recently offered by a blogger known as Yeranen Yaakov, who refers to an esoteric source called Aggadat Ribbi Yishmael (the fables of Rabbi Ishmael), written by 17th century Rabbi Meir Halevi Horowitz. Rabbi Horowitz collected teachings about the end of days and formulated a theory about the Book of Daniel.

And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he lifted up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and swore by Him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. Daniel 12:7

Rabbi Horowitz interpreted a ‘time’ as 700 years. He based this on three reasons:

1) It corresponds to the number of years that Israel angered God from the time Joshua brought the Israelites into the land, which, according to Rabbi Horowitz, totalled 700 years.

2) According to the Talmud, non-Jews were given 1000 years to subjugate the Jews. Rabbi Horowitz subtracted the 300 years of exile in Babylonia, Greece, and Persia from the total that Israel should have suffered.

3) Rabbi Horowitz also interpreted the seventy weeks described in the Book of Daniel as a total of 50 cycles of double shmittah (sabbatical) cycles. One cycle is seven years. A double sabbatical is 14 years. 50 cycles of 14 years equals 700 years.

Rabbi Horowitz then did a calculation based on the phrase from Daniel, “time, times, and a half”, adding “time” (moed), meaning one, “times” (moadim), meaning two, and then “a half” of one. This is a total of 3.5 times. Rabbi Horowitz calculated this as meaning 700 multiplied by 3.5, or 2450.

Rabbi Horowitz calculated the beginning of the exile from the first stage of the Babylonian Exile, which began in the Hebrew year 3327 (434 BCE). He added 2,450, the result of his calculations for  “time, times, and a half” from the Book of Daniel, and arrived at the result that the Hebrew year in which the Messiah should arrive is 5777 – the current year.

Yeranen Yaakov goes on to bring another verse which refers to the Babylonian Exile using the expression moadim (times), similar to the Book of Daniel. The prophecy in Jeremiah contains a hint that this year, 5777, will be the final year before Messiah. It describes a prophetic vision that after the exile, there will be a return to the Land of Israel.

Hashem showed me, and behold two baskets of figs set before the temple of Hashem; after that Nevuchadretzar king of Bavel had carried away captive Yechonyah the son of Yehoyakim, king of Yehudah, and the princes of Yehudah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Yerushalayim, and had brought them to Bavel. The gematria (numerology) in Hebrew, of the words of the verse, beginning with the words “before the Temple”, equals 5777.

לִפְנֵי הֵיכַל יְהוָה: אַחֲרֵי הַגְלוֹת נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ-בָּבֶל אֶת-יְכָנְיָהוּ בֶן-יְהוֹיָקִים מֶלֶךְ-יְהוּדָה וְאֶת-שָׂרֵי יְהוּדָה וְאֶת-הֶחָרָשׁ וְאֶת-הַמַּסְגֵּר, מִירוּשָׁלִַם, וַיְבִאֵם, בָּבֶל.

Biblical scholars have struggled with the Book of Daniel for thousands of years, so what makes these interpretations any different? Rabbi Yosef Berger, rabbi of the Tomb of King David on Mount Zion, explained why ancient prophecies like Daniel are being studied with new understanding today.

“What Daniel wrote about the End of Days, our greatest sages have been trying to understand for generations. But the real meanings were intentionally hidden. Daniel himself said that these things will remain hidden until the end,” he told Breaking Israel News.

And he said: ‘Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end.’ Daniel 12:9

Rabbi Berger noted that Rabbi Moses Ben Maimon, the preeminent medieval Sephardic Torah authority known by the acronym Rambam, forbade attempts to figure an exact date for the arrival of the Messiah. But Rabbi Berger believes that this does not apply to our times.

“It is written in the Zohar (the foundational source for Jewish mysticism) that in the days preceding the Messiah, all secrets will be revealed, and even small children will be able to explain explain prophecies and the most obscure sources,” Rabbi Berger concluded. “Now, in our day, everything is being opened up. We are discovering these sources that hint at the Messiah that have existed for generations, and only now can we interpret them properly. This is a clear sign that they are now being intentionally revealed.”

The Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) last week officially renounced its centuries-old mission to evangelize and convert Jews after a resolution on the topic received unanimous approval at the EKD’s annual synod.
The central decision-making body for Germany’s main Protestant church, encompassing 23 million members, passed the resolution declaring that Christians “are not called to show Israel the path to God and his salvation” on November 9 in Magdeburg, Religion News reported.
“All efforts to convert Jews contradict our commitment to the faithfulness of God and the election of Israel,” read the resolution.
It explained that since God never renounced His covenant with Israel, Jews do not need to embrace the Christian covenant to be saved.

Defense analyst Tobias Schneider’s theory is that the equipment was taken from American military aid sent to the Lebanese Armed Forces, who received over $200 million in US military aid in 2016, though the Lebanese military officially denied being the source.
An anonymous State Department official supported the Lebanese military’s denial in a statement to the Washington Post.
“The Lebanese military has publicly stated that the M113s depicted online were never part of their equipment roster,” the official said. “Our initial assessment concurs: The M113s allegedly in Hezbollah’s possession in Syria are unlikely to have come from the Lebanese military. We are working closely with our colleagues in the Pentagon and in the Intelligence Community on to resolve this issue.”

Many people have either a Biblical Hebrew name or a name which connects to the Bible. In Jewish tradition, one’s name contains a spiritual dimension. Naming a child is not just a random happening that parents impose upon their children. The Bible is actually replete with stories which reflect the importance of a name.

“There are generally three ways in which a Hebrew name expresses something important about a person,” explained Roni Segal, academic adviser for eTeacher, an online language academy specializing in Biblical Hebrew, to Breaking Israel News. “Sometimes the name represents the essence of a person. Sometimes it reflects an aspect from the birth the child and sometime it shows the purpose of the person in this world.”

The essence of the first man is reflected in his name. Called Adam, we know that he was created from the earth – adama (אדמה) in Hebrew.

Biblical Father Jacob’s name is Yaakov in Hebrew. This name is used to record the unusual circumstances of his birth. Jacob emerged from his mother’s womb holding the heel of his twin brother, Esau.

Heel in Hebrew is akev (עָקֵב) the same root as Yaakov. Already from the womb, Jacob was on the heels of Esau, chasing the rights of the first-born child. The Bible records that Esau received his name because he emerged hairy, as if he were “completely made”. In Hebrew, asah means to “make” (עשה).

Similarly, although Biblical commentators state that Moses – Moshe (משה) in Hebrew – had no less than ten names, he is generally referred to only by his Egyptian name, Moshe. Exodus 2:10 explains that Pharaoh’s daughter saw a child in a basket floating down the Nile River. She drew him out and became his step-mother, a dangerous act as it was decreed that all Jewish males be killed. She named him Moshe, which literally means “to draw out”. This is the name used throughout the Bible to give honor to this act of great self-sacrifice.

There are several times in the Bible when God changes a person’s name to better reflect their purpose in this world. For instance, Abraham’s original name was Abram

(אַבְרָם֙). Abram means “high father.” By changing his name to Abraham (אַבְרָהָם), his future mission is reflected; Abraham means the “father of multitudes”. He becomes the father to all who believe in one God.

God also changed the name of Abraham’s wife. In order for Abraham to fulfill his mission, he needed his wife by his side in a similarly lofty spiritual level. Therefore, God changed her name from Sarai (שָׂרי), which means “princess”, to Sarah (שָׂרה) meaning the “mother of nations”. Together they become the parents of innumerable disciples.

Lastly, we have Biblical צother Leah naming her children to represent her feelings and desires at the time of their births. We know that Jacob’s first choice for a wife was Leah’s sister Rachel. But Leah’s father tricked him into marrying her first. In order to provide Leah with appeasement for being the second-choice wife, God opened Leah’s womb and she merited to give birth to four sons.

Each of their names tells of Leah’s emotional state at the time. Her first son, Reuven

(רְאוּבֵן) is named from the Hebrew word ra’a (רָאָה) to which means “see”. The Bible states, “God saw my pain at being the less-desired wife and my husband will see that I deserve to be married to him.”

Leah’s second son is Shimon (שִׁמְעוֹן). Shimon comes from the Hebrew word shema

(שָׁמַע) which means “hear”. Leah expresses that God heard her cries and blessed her with a second son.

Levy (לֵוִי) is related to the Hebrew word for attach, y’lavey (יִלָּוֶה). Jacob named him Levy to express that he will be more attached to Leah through this child.

Most telling is the fourth son’s name, Yehuda (יְהוּדָה). Yehuda comes from the Hebrew word for praise, oh-deh (אוֹדֶה). With this birth, Leah publicly praises God for giving her a great portion in the creation of the tribes of the Jewish people. Additionally, it also represents her essence. She is known for praising God both in challenging and good times.

“By reading the Bible in the language it was written, Hebrew, we understand much deeper God’s messages for His children and all of mankind,” shared Segal.

President-Elect Donald Trump’s picks for key security positions are making Israel happy, indicating that the Iran deal will have little support in the White House.

Tea Party Republican Mike Pompeo, Congressman for Kansas ,  was picked by Trump , pending Senate approval, to be the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. He is a strong supporter of Israel and was enthusiastic after meeting Israeli Prime Minister last November. Pompeo is an outspoken critic of outgoing President Barack Obama’s deal with Iran, and  called for it to be repealed in a Tweet last Thursday.
Pompeo threatens other aspects of the outgoing administration’s legacy. Pompeo was on the House Select Benghazi Committee to investigate the 2012 attack in Libya. He told the New York Times that he felt that the State Department was “seemingly more concerned with politics and Secretary Clinton’s legacy than with protecting its people in Benghazi”.

More controversial is Trumps choice of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as his most senior national security aide. Flynn is also an opponent of the Iran deal and has called for it to be renegotiated. But in a more direct way, he signals an end to President Obama’s legacy.
Flynn was  appointed By President Obama as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012, but was  pressured into resigning after for questioning the Obama administration’s public narrative that Al Qaeda was close to defeat. 
Flynn also disagreed with the outgoing president’s positive opinion of Islam. At a Dallas event for Act for America in August, Flynn called Islam a “cancer” and a “political ideology” that “definitely hides behind being a religion”.
In his book, “The Field of Fight: How We Can Win the Global War Against Radical Islam and its Allies,” he wrote, “This insistence on denying the existence of jihad led President Obama to the absurd claim that the Islamic State has nothing to do with Islam”.
This is reassuring, considering that some believe Trump has already begun to waver on some of his campaign commitments. In a recent BBC interview  Walid Phares, a senior policy aide to Trump, amended Trump’s promise to toss aside the P5+1 deal with Iran concerning their nuclear program.
“He will take the agreement, review it, send it to Congress, demand from the Iranians to restore a few issues or change a few issues, and there will be a discussion,” said Phares.

America’s Know-Nothing Diplomacy

Gary Johnson recently said, “The fact that somebody can dot the i’s and cross the t’s on a foreign leader or a geographic location then allows them to put our military in harm’s way.” In other words, “you can’t get into a war with a country you can’t find.”
As a student of U.S. foreign policy this struck a chord – not because it’s an outlandishly whacky statement but precisely because it is mainstream. Really. Here are three notable precedents from the last century:

In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson dispatched the International Commission of Inquiry (commonly known as the King-Crane Commission) to Palestine and Syria to ascertain the political wishes of their residents. The leaders of this potentially influential commission monumentally lacked qualifications for the undertaking. Henry C. King was a philosopher and president of Oberlin College; Charles R. Crane was a busybody, antisemite, and heir to the fortune from his family’s plumbing fixture company. Strikingly, their ignorance was seen as an advantage; a presidential aide explained that Wilson “felt these two men were particularly qualified to go to Syria because they knew nothing about it.”

Secretary of State Robert Lansing, who thought Wilson wrong on this, explained that the president did not want to appoint “persons who are familiar with the subject” of political and territorial questions. Instead, Wilson thought that “an empty mind is more receptive of the truth than one affected by experience and study.” Indeed, ignorance is an “essential qualification for an investigator.”

The King-Crane Commission report, not surprisingly, was (in the words of historian Elie Kedourie) “as ill-informed as its influence on policy was negligible.”

In 2003, the Bush administration announced John S. Wolf as the new U.S. presidential Middle East envoy (more formally, “chief, U.S. Coordinating and Monitoring Mission for the Middle East peace process”). The Washington Post (in an admiring article titled “For Mideast Envoy, Rookie Status May Be an Advantage”) quoted a senior administration official saying that “It’s a good thing that he has exceptional negotiating skills and very little direct experience in the area.”

Wolf himself admitted a complete lack of experience in the Middle East and later admitted his surprise at the appointment: “I asked Secretary [Colin] Powell, National Security Advisor [Condoleezza] Rice and President [George W.] Bush – why me?” Because they wanted “someone with a fresh view.” Wolf agreed on this approach, saying “My lack of experience was an advantage. I learned that in the Middle East, people always tend to look back, and I was asking them to look to the future.”

Not surprisingly, like the King-Crane Commission, Wolf’s diplomatic foray had negligible impact; a mere fourteen months into his mission, he wandered off to became the president of the Eisenhower Fellowships, a non-profit.

In 2006, the U.S. government’s Iraq Study Groupconsisted of ten members embodying the same “know-nothing” approach. James A. Baker, III, and Lee H. Hamilton served as co-chairs, with Robert Gates, Rudy Giuliani, Vernon E. Jordan, Jr., Sandra Day O’Connor, Leon E. Panetta, William J. Perry, Charles S. Robb, and Alan K. Simpson the members. Not a single one of these individuals brought expertise on Iraq to the table, virtually guaranteeing that the commission would produce a politically nuanced but strategically useless report.

Indeed, the Iraq Study Group Report turned out to be even worse than expected and had minimal influence. As I wrote at the time, it “dredges up past failed U.S. policies in the Middle East and would enshrine them as current policy. Most profoundly, regarding the American role in Iraq, the report moronically splits the difference of troops staying or leaving.”

Through a century, American presidents and other leaders celebrate Mark Twain’s “innocents abroad” mentality that Gary Johnson has just regurgitated. As someone who’s spent his near-50-year career working on this topic, the notion that ignorance makes for better diplomacy is pretty depressing; what have I been doing and for what purpose all this time?

That said, given the abominable state of Middle East studies and the wretched record of Foreign Service Officers like the Arabists, I must admit that avoiding specialists may have some merit. But surely that does not mean turning to ignorami.

Trump Reportedly Donated to Jews Expelled From Gaza Strip

President-elect Donald Trump reportedly contributed money to help create new communities in Israel for evacuees of former Israeli settlements in the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip.

Due to the high cost of evacuating the former Gush Katif community in Gaza, the Israeli government reportedly sought assistance from Jewish organizations such as the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and other groups. In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza, which is now ruled by the Palestinian terror group Hamas.

“We issued an appeal to all Keren Kayemeth leIsrael (KKL) and JNF offices worldwide,” said Effie Stenzler, former chairman of the JNF, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Tuesday.

“KKL-USA sought donations in the U.S. and one of them was sought from Trump, who is considered to be an avowed supporter of Israel, and he donated money toward the establishment of infrastructure in new communities,” Stenzler added.

Further, Trump donated towards helping Jewish evacuees from the Sinai Peninsula in the early 1980s, when Israel pulled out of the region as a result of the peace treaty it signed with Egypt in 1979.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Trump’s name appears on a plaque honoring the donors in the Hevel Shalom region, which absorbed evacuees from the Sinai and Gaza. While the exact figure of Trump’s donation for settlement evacuees is not cited, it is estimated to amount to millions of Israeli shekels.

A noted kabbalist greeted the news of Donald Trump’s upset victory in the elections with an enthusiastic blessing, saying his own spiritual efforts, which included fasting and prayer, contributed to the election results.

The Palestinians promised to “make life miserable” for President-elect Donald Trump if he decides to follow through on a campaign promise to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“If people attack us by moving the embassy to Jerusalem…it is a violation of Resolution 181 of the U.N. General Assembly that was drafted by the U.S.…it means they are showing belligerency towards us…If they do that nobody should blame us for unleashing all of the weapons that we have in the U.N. to defend ourselves, and we have a lot of weapons in the U.N.,” Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian representative to the United Nations, said Nov. 11.
While Mansour acknowledged that his response could not be a Security Council resolution because the U.S. would veto that move, he suggested there could be other ways the Palestinians could undermine American efforts in the world body.

Despite skeptics asserting that most incidents of assault, vandalism, or harassment publicized since Donald Trump won the presidential election are unverified and over-reported, the US has indeed seen a spike in hate crimes in the past week, said the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Over 300 incidents have been reported since Election Day, said SPLC President Richard Cohen on Monday.

The high cost of flying Lockheed Martin’s F-35 determines that at least 50 percent of the training on the stealth fighter be done in simulators, and Elbit Systems Ltd. has just won the tender to operate the F-35 new training center, to be built in the Nevatim airbase in the Negev desert, Globes reported Sunday. Construction of the new center will be completed in the coming year, in time for the arrival of the 33 F-35 Adir aircraft purchased by Israel.
Lockheed Martin said in a statement that over the past three decades, Elbit “has acquired a great deal of experience in trainers and simulators, and is a world leader in high-tech display. Its advanced systems are in operational use by leading armies around the world.”

The 7’1”, 350-lb basketball star attended a Jewish wedding in Miami last weekend, where he joined in a traditional “hora” circle dance and, grinning from ear to ear, boogied to the sounds of a Hebrew song which cried out for the time of Moshiach (Messiah in Hebrew).

O’Neal towered over a crowd of mostly normal-sized guests, but seemed thrilled to be a part of the celebration. The bride and groom looked on, beaming.

The famous athlete, known by his nickname “Shaq”, is a friend of the groom’s father, Jamie Salter, JTA reported. Salter and Shaq work together at the Authentic Brands Group, which manages Shaq’s intellectual property.

Saying that pushing agendas “contrary to the president-elect’s position” would not be in the “spirit of the transition”, Trump national security advisor for Donald Trump last week warned the Obama administration against making moves on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in his last months in office.
“On big, transformative issues where President Obama and President-elect Trump are not in alignment, I don’t think it’s in keeping with the spirit of the transition…to try to push through agenda items that are contrary to the president-elect’s positions,” the advisor told Politico.
Trump’s vision for Israel is extremely different from that of Obama, whose relationship with the Jewish state has been strained, to say the least. Trump campaigned on a strong pro-Israel platform, promising to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and hinting that he would lift restrictions on building in settlements, whereas the State Department under Obama has repeatedly and strongly condemned even small-scale Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria.
The Obama Administration’s attempts at making peace failed twice during its eight-year span.

Jewish Fertility Rates Catch Up to Arabs for First Time Ever

An announcement by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on the occasion of the International Child Day 2016 states that, for the first time since the creation of the state in 1948, Israeli Jewish women’s overall fertility rate has matched that of Israeli Arab women: 3.13 children per woman on average. This means that the Jewish demographic trend is on the upswing, while the Arab numbers are slowing down.
The announcement shared a fascinating list of facts and figures on the heartwarming topic of Israeli children. Such as that by the end of 2015 there were 2.798 million children ages 0 to 17 living in Israel, constituting 33 percent of the population. In Jerusalem children are 40 percent of the general population, in Haifa 23 percent and in Tel Aviv only 21 percent.

Out of Israel’s children, 1.996 million are Jews (71.3 percent), 718,000 are Arab (25.7 percent) and the rest, 84,000 children (3 percent), are neither.
By the end of 2015, the average number of children under age 17 per household was 2.4. The largest number of children per household was in Beit Shemesh — 3.8, B’nei B’rak — 3.4, and Jerusalem — 3. The lowest number of children per household was in Bat Yam — 1.8.
Here’s another heartwarming bit of data: a whopping 92 percent of Israeli children live with both parents; only 8 percent— 210,000 children — live with one parent, 92 percent of them with their mother.

Rare “Supermoon”,
First of Century, Marks Closest Approach to Earth in 68 Years

In a rare phenomenon known as a supermoon, on Monday night the moon will appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than usual. A supermoon, known in astronomy as perigean full moons, is the coincidence of a full moon with the closest approach the moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit.
The last time a supermoon appeared in the sky so close to the earth, it was accompanied by a miraculous event: the creation of the State of Israel. Its once-in-a-lifetime reappearance tonight has many speculating whether it brings with it another prophetic event.
NASA reported that tonight’s supermoon, passing within 221,524 miles from Earth, will be “the closest full moon to date in the 21st century.” The last time a supermoon appeared this close to the earth was 68 years ago, on May 14, 1948, and the next time a supermoon will occur is not until November 25, 2034.

President-elect Donald Trump has announced that controversial alt-right leader Steve Bannon will be his Chief Strategist in the White House, sparking a backlash from critics who point to Bannon’s white nationalist and anti-Semitic views as a sign that the Trump administration will turn its often-vitriolic campaign rhetoric into policy.
“President-elect Trump’s choice of Steve Bannon as his top aide signals that White Supremacists will be represented at the highest levels in Trump’s White House,” said the spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Sunday.
Bannon left his position at the super-conservative outlet Breitbart News to join the Trump campaign in August. Known as a leader of the emerging alt-right movement – a group of extreme right-wingers associated with white supremacism, anti-Semitism, and nativism – Bannon represents a dangerous ideology, said many of those who spoke out against the appointment.

Michael Pence, the Vice President-elect, is a long-time ardent supporter of Israel, but it turns out that his connection to the Holy Land goes deeper than even he knows: the Evangelical Christian from Indiana has Orthodox Jewish relatives, one of whom lives in the Golan Heights and is eager to meet his cousin.
The genealogical connection centers around Tamsen (Tammy) Socher, a Jewish grandmother living in West Los Angeles. She spent most of her life in the San Fernando Valley, but when she moved to Ohio, eight years ago, she felt a need to maintain a connection to her family and became interested in genealogy. Her search quickly led her to a relative, Richard Pence, an amateur genealogist. She was impressed by his work.

“Some people just want to fill in the blanks, but Richard really worked hard at getting it right,” Tammy said in an interview with Breaking Israel News. Tammy realized that Pence was not a common name. “It doesn’t really come from England. It was one of those made-up Ellis Island names, so we are all connected. I haven’t met a ‘Pence’ yet who wasn’t a relative.”
Most of her family was from Indiana, so Tammy asked Richard if Michael Pence, then an Indiana congressman, was a relative. Richard, who is now deceased, answered that the Michael Pence was indeed her fourth cousin on her father’s side. Tammy tried to contact Pence at the time but was unsuccessful.

In honor of Simchat Torah, the holiday on which Jews celebrate the yearly completion of reading the entire Bible and begin the cycle again, scholars and laymen alike ask the question, “Why does the Torah begin with, ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’ (Genesis 1:1) rather than starting with the first Biblical commandment, which arrives much later, the blessing of the new moon?”
“There are many rabbinical discourses on this topic,” stated Roni Segal, academic adviser for eTeacher, an online language academy specializing in Biblical Hebrew, to Breaking Israel News. “Some of these  interesting insights are gleaned only by understanding Hebrew.”
The first sentence of the Bible reads in Hebrew:
בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ
B’raysheet ba-RA Eh-lo-HEEM ayt ha-sha-MA-yim v’-ayt ha-A-retz
Ayt is made up of the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, aleph/tav. In fact, the Hebrew alphabet is referred to as aleph/tav. Therefore, the literal translation of the first sentence in the Bible can be understood as, “In the beginning, God created the Hebrew alphabet and then He created the heavens and the earth.” From this, the sages understood that the the Hebrew alphabet was used as building blocks to create the heavens and the earth.

A top foreign policy adviser to President-elect Donald Trump indicated Thursday that some of the hard-line promises the controversial candidate made during his presidential campaign would be re-tooled and softened in the implementation stage, including his pledges to to immediately move America’s Israeli embassy to Jerusalem and to dismantle the Iranian nuclear deal.
Trump had vowed that if he were elected, he would “100 percent” move the embassy from Tel Aviv, a highly political move which would essentially translate to US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel – something it has, until now, refused to do, ostensibly for fear of angering Palestinians who claim the city as their own.

Trump stuck close to his pledge throughout his campaign, most recently repeating it after two contentious UNESCO resolutions attempted to deny all Jewish connection to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount last month.
“I have said on numerous occasions that in a Trump Administration, the United States will recognize Jerusalem as the one true capital of Israel,” Trump wrote in a Facebook post.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is a candidate for the position of secretary of state in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, CNN reported Friday.
Giuliani, 72, was an early and vocal backer of Trump’s presidential campaign. He served as mayor of New York from 1993-2001, and ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

An outspoken supporter of Israel, Giuliani is fondly remembered in the Jewish community for expelling Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) chief Yasser Arafat from a United Nations concert at Lincoln Center in 1995. Giuliani said he took that step because Arafat was responsible for the murders of “dozens of American citizens abroad,” such as Leon Klinghoffer—the elderly, wheelchair-bound New Yorker who was murdered and thrown overboard by the Palestinian hijackers of the Achille Lauro cruise ship in 1985.
Giuliani becomes the latest pro-Israel contender for Trump’s secretary of state post, according to media reports, with the other rumored candidates including former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).
