Hello Elaine,

Is the devil winning... or does it only look that way sometimes?

While we cannot help but acknowledge the presence of evil, wickedness, violence, sin, sickness, and death in the world, we also profess our belief in the preeminence of Christ and His ultimate, final, comprehensive victory over all these things.

Nevertheless, we stand in the midst of the storm and sometimes wonder why the storm rages at all when Jesus could easily calm it with a word.

What is going on here?

Simply this: That God is teaching us how to overcome as Christ Himself overcame.

It is important that WE - the children of Adam, now born-again as the children of God - be the ones who overcome the Dragon.

And, even though we are living in the midst of what seems to be universal deception, complicated by a compromised and lukewarm institutional church blinded by a self-centered "bless me" false Gospel, God is indeed working beneath the surface and behind the scenes.

In fact, the encouraging thing to know is that these times are hardly "unprecedented" or "remarkable." We have seen similar times and seasons all through history, and God has continued to work and move despite every effort of men and fallen angels to thwart His Purpose.

What is God doing?

In a word, God is working with a Remnant. He is raising up Overcomers to represent His interests in the earth - a people who are called out all nations, then sent into all nations, who are in this world but not of this world.

And so, in spite of a general failure of the Whole, the Overcomers, as a part of the Whole, are fulfilling God’s original intent for the Ekklesia and for all creation.

If you want to make sense of what's going on... if you want to understand the signs of the times... if you want to know who you are and where you stand in these last days... if you want to be encouraged in knowing that you are not alone and that God is indeed working all things together for His good and for your good...

Then please  join us for this exciting new online study beginning this week:

An 11-part audio teaching series now available
online for "whatever you can afford."

LISTEN NOW

If only we could see the Body of Christ as a FAMILY instead of a religious institution or church building or nonprofit organization then I think it would resolve all of our concerns and issues around authority, discipline, organization, function, and how we are supposed to treat one another.

I also think that if only we could see the spiritual family of God we would then see more clearly how our earthly families can and should function – marriage, parenting, etc. We would also understand why things go wrong in families and in our relationships with one another – and how to make them right again. We’ll find healing from our past negative experiences and stop carrying that baggage with us everywhere we go.

Listen to this teaching series as we seek answers to these questions – and many more!!

Just listen or download it from this link:

Listen as you wish. Share as you like. Give as you can.

The Seven-Fold Purpose of the Book of Revelation
by Chip Brogden

I believe that we can communicate seven distinct purposes, or a sevenfold purpose, for why the Book of Revelation was written.

Never, ever, ever forget… This is one of the issues that I have with a lot of Bible teachers. They automatically assume that all the blessings and rewards in the Book of Revelation go to believers, to Christians, to people who go to church, to people in God, to people who believe the Bible; and all of the punishment, all of the wrath is being poured out on those dirty, old, nasty, wicked, evil people who don’t believe in Jesus, who don’t go to church – and so this Book of Revelation is all about punishing everyone who’s not a Christian.

But I want you to remember – and never forget – that the context of this letter was written to people who were already believers in Jesus. Some were faithful and some were unfaithful. Some were committed and some were uncommitted. Some were on fire and some were lukewarm. And the main thrust of the Book reinforces what Peter had already warned them: that “judgment must begin in the house of the Lord...”

Post  Admin Tue 20 Jul 2021, 10:29 pm

Hello Elaine,

I knew a man who went to a Bible conference.

There, the speaker discussed how we are "free in Christ."

The man came out of the conference saying, "I'm free in Christ, so I can do whatever I want. Anything goes!"

Was he kidding around, just to see my reaction?

Or did he seriously think he was truly "free in Christ" to do whatever he wished?

My response to this situation is this:

"Freedom in Christ is not the freedom to DO as you please; it is the freedom FROM DOING as you please."

I don't need the kind of freedom that feeds my flesh and brings me more deeply into bondage; rather, I need the kind of freedom that makes me free from MYSELF - free from sin, self, and satan.

Free to reject all the solicitations to evil.

Free to say no to all temptation.

Free to walk in the Spirit and not obey the lusts of the flesh.

That's what "free in Christ" means.

The Bible says that "where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

And that is exactly the kind of liberty and freedom we can enjoy as sons and daughters of God.

Join us as we discuss the relational and familial aspects of liberty and freedom as children of God in this week's online Bible study...

Ephesus: The Loveless Church
by Chip Brogden

Jesus prioritizes relationship over religion. What is religion? When you’re going through the motions of doing things for God when you’ve forgotten Who you’re supposed to be in love with. It’s when you take the “work of the Lord” and make it more important than the Lord of the Work.

First Love is a very strong relationship-oriented word. All of the other things that He praised them for were religious words – works, and labor, and patience, and you can’t bear people that are evil. I mean they sound like very fundamentalist, denominational people. I realize this was almost 2,000 years ago – but people have not changed that much in 2,000 years, and they’re still motivated by the same things then that they are motivated by now, even though today we are more sophisticated and more refined, so to speak, in our motivations. But that same spirit of religion is desiring to lead us away from the simplicity of Christ...

Hello Elaine,

We've looked at the prodigal son from the perspective of the father's love and grace.

We've even looked at the hypocrisy of the older brother.

But what of the younger brother?

The "prodigal" (wasteful) son.

The "lost" son.

See... the parable is not just for lost sinners who need to get saved.

It's also for lost Christians who need to lose their religion to find their faith.

For wandering sons and daughters who got bogged down in the pig pen of religion and need to be "born again... again!"

What was his downfall?

Simply this: He wanted the blessings and benefits of sonship (the inheritance) without any responsibility or relationship with his father.

In other words, he was trying to have his father's things without having his father.

That is yet another example of RELIGION at work.

But one day we woke up and realized that we needed to get out of the pig pen and find our Father again.

The way back to God, the Way Home, is by way of Relationship, not Religion.

Love, not Legalism.

Not a church-centered faith, but a Christ-centered faith.

Join us as we explore these things and apply them to our lives...

Once Saved, Always Saved?
by Chip Brogden

“I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.” – Jude 5

If there’s ever a case where you could say, “This really sheds some reasonable doubt on this idea of once saved, always saved,” – here’s this Scripture! And it’s interesting that the letters of First John, Second John, Third John, and Jude really prepare the way so that you understand in Revelation, when the Lord appears in the midst, and He tells certain groups of people who claim to be working for Him and called by His name (and He does refer to them as ekklesias) that there are some things that they need to correct, and they need to repent; and if they don’t repent, then there’s going to be judgment, and there’s going to be consequences. There’s going to be some rewards for those who are faithful; and those who are not faithful run the risk of losing their reward.

I get all kinds of knee-jerk responses when I make a statement like, “Once Saved, Always Saved is a fake hope.” It’s a false hope. It’s something that religious people have grasped and held onto in order to justify a lack of spiritual fruitfulness, to take advantage of God’s grace, and to say, “Jesus did it all; therefore, I don’t have to do anything.” Or, “I’m not saved by my works; therefore, my works don’t matter.” That is a very poor religion; and it certainly is not a relationship with the Lord...

Hello Elaine,

As we learned last week, Christ enjoys a special position of preeminence as "the only Begotten Son" of God.

But God (being God) devised a plan by which we could ALL become sons, daughters, and children of God.

We are not begotten in the same sense as Jesus; but we are adopted and born-again into the family of God.

What proof do we have that we are, in fact, children of God?

An interesting name for the Holy Spirit - not commonly used - is: "The Spirit of Adoption" (Rom. 8:15).

And according to Scripture, this Spirit of Adoption bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:16).

Pretty amazing, when you consider that we are all born into this world as "children of wrath" and "children of disobedience" (Eph. 2:3; Col. 3:6).

That's quite a transformation!

How does the Spirit work in us to create such a radical change and make us more like Christ?

Three Simple Steps to
Understanding the Bible
by Chip Brogden
I remember that as a child I became interested in the Book of Revelation...

When I was probably eight or nine years old, because some kid in my Sunday school class said that in the Book of Revelation there’s a verse that says, “The eagle and the bear will wage war, and the bear will defeat the eagle and rule over the earth.” His interpretation of this verse was that Russia would defeat the United States in World War III and we would all die under the Russians. This was at the height of the Cold War. I don’t know where he got his information from, but that motivated me to read the Book of Revelation at age eight or nine, whatever the time was, and look for that verse! I wanted to find that verse about the eagle and the bear waging war and the bear conquering the eagle. I thought that was pretty critical to my understanding of life!

You know what happened. I read through the Book of Revelation and not a single verse had anything to do with an eagle and a bear fighting. You may think, “Wow, that’s really strange!” But you know, people today do the exact same thing. They assume that the Bible says something. They assume that the Book of Revelation says something. They build teachings and doctrines around things that Scripture doesn’t say...

Hello Elaine,

What, after all, is Jesus trying to teach us through His suffering and obedience?

He is showing us how to be a child/son/daughter of God – How to love and be loved.

What sustained Jesus through the terrible suffering He endured on the cross?

Scripture says that as a Son He learned obedience through the things He suffered.

Stated differently: The things He suffered taught Him to fully trust Himself to God’s Will.

In our suffering we, too, must learn to trust the Greatness and Goodness of God, for this is the safest place to be.

But it isn't all about suffering.

As sons and daughters of God we also experience unfailing love, unspeakable joy, and peace that passes understanding - even while the world around us seems to be falling apart and our circumstances make no sense.

Religion cannot give us this.

Doctrine cannot deliver.

But Jesus teaches us how to have such a depth of Relationship that nothing can move us or shake us.

We'll take another look at this unique Father/Son relationship and draw lessons from it in this week's online Bible study...

"Though He was a son, He learned obedience through the things that He suffered" (Heb. 5:8).

Suffering is unavoidable - even Jesus suffered!

What does suffering teach us?

Hello Elaine,

Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during our "family emergency" last week.

Please continue to pray as you are led.

We return to the online Bible study this week and take up the subject again:

"Fatherhood and Sonship in the Family of God."

We just observed Father's Day here in the U.S., so it's an interesting time to consider.

Jesus perfectly reveals the Father.

How?

Because Jesus perfectly reveals Sonship.

I love what George MacDonald had to say about this:

"The Fatherhood and Sonship are one, save that the Fatherhood looks down lovingly, and the Sonship looks up lovingly. Love is all. And God is all in all."

I believe there are mysteries within this Father/Son relationship that will help us better understand, appreciate, and cooperate with our own love relationship with God.

That is the whole basis of "Relationship, not Religion."

Join us as we explore some of those mysteries this week...

Victory is a Man
by Chip Brogden
Everyone who looks does not see. Everyone who hears does not listen. What are we looking for? What is it that we need to see? What would God reveal to us?

There is but one desire of God for us, and that is that we may see Christ. God does not reveal one hundred, one thousand, or one million things to us. He is pleased to give us His Son, and He delights for us to look only to Him. Not even the things He gives, but to Him who is the Gift. We may pray for revelation into a great many matters, but only one thing is important to God, that is, that we may have revelation into the Son.

If we know the Son, if we possess the Son, if we see the Son, we know and possess and see all that God has and is, for He has deposited all of Himself into His Son, and all of His Son He deposited into us...

Hi Elaine,

I love where Jesus says...

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Mt. 5:48)

Impossible!

Nobody is perfect!

And boy, don't the holiness people have a great time with this one - preaching to everyone else that sinless perfection is possible, sometimes even deluding themselves into thinking that they have achieved it, when they clearly have not because no one (apart from Jesus) is sinlessly perfect.

But wait a minute...

"Perfection" here isn't talking about sinless perfection or never making a mistake.

(God certainly is sinless, and He never makes mistakes.)

In context, Jesus is describing how to behave like our heavenly Father, and the best way to describe God is LOVE PERFECTED.

It seems that God loves His enemies, sending sun and rain on the good and bad alike, showing kindness to the unthankful and to the evil.

Amazing!

So, to be like God is to be perfected in love.

Thus, to "be perfect" is to love the way God loves.

That's what Jesus taught.

Still not so easy... but at least we can see what "perfection" is supposed to look like by watching how our Father behaves, not how Sister Bitterblossom behaves.

What else does Jesus reveal about our Father?

Join us for this week's online Bible study as we explore these things...

Why I'm Not Always
Positive and Encouraging
by Chip Brogden
Do I wish to be entertained into spiritual dullness or challenged into spiritual maturity?

At first blush there would appear to be nothing wrong with something labeled “positive and encouraging.” Three Christian radio stations service my area, and all three of them make the same claim: that they offer positive and encouraging programming for the whole family. The appeal is obvious: no one wants to spend a lot of time dwelling on things that are negative and discouraging.

But I have discovered a flaw in this positive and encouraging, family-friendly environment that should be addressed. This desire to provide people with a positive and encouraging experience (whether it is by radio or by television or by church service or by website) creates an unrealistic expectation in the hearts and minds of the audience and congregation who have come to rely on “the ministry” to keep them properly fed. Content is judged not according to Truth, but according to how I feel about it. Do I feel good, positive, encouraged, uplifted, and happy afterwards? If so then all is well. Or is it?

Hi Elaine,

My life's work is devoted to Christ-centered teaching and proclaiming the preeminence of Christ.

I truly believe there is no end to the revelation of Christ, no end to His increase, no end to HIM.

But here is something that blows my mind whenever I dwell upon it...

Jesus said, "My Father is greater than I" (Jn. 14:28).

I can't comprehend it!

That there is Someone greater than Jesus?!?

Who would that be?

The God and FATHER of our Lord Jesus Christ IS GREATER than Christ.

Christ is the Blessing, but Father is the One Who blesses.

Christ is the Provision, but Father is the One Who provides.

Christ is the Gift, but Father is the One Who gives.

For that reason, we need to spend more time on knowing God as our Father.

That's why I invite you to join us for this week's online Bible study...
