Victory is a Man
by Chip Brogden
Everyone who looks does not see. Everyone who hears does not listen. What are we looking for? What is it that we need to see? What would God reveal to us?
There is but one desire of God for us, and that is that we may see Christ. God does not reveal one hundred, one thousand, or one million things to us. He is pleased to give us His Son, and He delights for us to look only to Him. Not even the things He gives, but to Him who is the Gift. We may pray for revelation into a great many matters, but only one thing is important to God, that is, that we may have revelation into the Son.
If we know the Son, if we possess the Son, if we see the Son, we know and possess and see all that God has and is, for He has deposited all of Himself into His Son, and all of His Son He deposited into us...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Why I'm Not Always
Positive and Encouraging
by Chip Brogden
Do I wish to be entertained into spiritual dullness or challenged into spiritual maturity?
At first blush there would appear to be nothing wrong with something labeled “positive and encouraging.” Three Christian radio stations service my area, and all three of them make the same claim: that they offer positive and encouraging programming for the whole family. The appeal is obvious: no one wants to spend a lot of time dwelling on things that are negative and discouraging.
But I have discovered a flaw in this positive and encouraging, family-friendly environment that should be addressed. This desire to provide people with a positive and encouraging experience (whether it is by radio or by television or by church service or by website) creates an unrealistic expectation in the hearts and minds of the audience and congregation who have come to rely on “the ministry” to keep them properly fed. Content is judged not according to Truth, but according to how I feel about it. Do I feel good, positive, encouraged, uplifted, and happy afterwards? If so then all is well. Or is it?

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
My life's work is devoted to Christ-centered teaching and proclaiming the preeminence of Christ.
I truly believe there is no end to the revelation of Christ, no end to His increase, no end to HIM.
But here is something that blows my mind whenever I dwell upon it...
Jesus said, "My Father is greater than I" (Jn. 14:28).
I can't comprehend it!
That there is Someone greater than Jesus?!?
Who would that be?
The God and FATHER of our Lord Jesus Christ IS GREATER than Christ.
Christ is the Blessing, but Father is the One Who blesses.
Christ is the Provision, but Father is the One Who provides.
Christ is the Gift, but Father is the One Who gives.
For that reason, we need to spend more time on knowing God as our Father.
That's why I invite you to join us for this week's online Bible study...

Father Knows Best
by Chip Brogden
To be a brother or sister we have to humble ourselves and recognize that we are not the Parent in God’s Family, and others are not our children.
We have One Father, and He is responsible for the correction, protection, discipline, and direction of His own children.
A brother recently shared with me a great revelation: that God was speaking and showing him things that were intended as lessons for him alone. In times past, he had always passed along these lessons to other brothers and sisters in the form of words, corrections, and rebukes, setting himself up as a kind of “Holy Spirit Police” (his words) to make sure everyone else was doing what he thought they were supposed to be doing. He has since learned that most of these lessons were for his own growth and maturity anyway, not for everyone else.
What the brother is talking about is illustrated in the episode with Mary and Martha. It is instructive not only for what Martha does but for what she says...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
I'm about to ask you a loaded question...
"When you think of your earthly father, how do you feel?"
Is it a positive feeling or a negative feeling?
It all depends on the quality of your relationship, doesn't it?
Some have had a good childhood with a good father - not perfect, but overall, positive.
Others have had a dysfunctional relationship with their earthly father. Maybe he was controlling, abusive, or not there at all.
Why do I ask?
Because in my experience I have seen time and again how someone's experience with their earthly father affects how they see their Heavenly Father - for better, or for worse.
Trying to please God but never feeling like you can do enough, trying to be "worthy" of Him, even acting out in a desperate attempt to get attention, are all religious manifestations that can be traced back to relationship issues with our earthly father.
To get free of that, we have to be aware that it's happening.
Then we need a revelation of God as our FATHER.
Think of it like this:
Jesus did not come to reveal our GOD, but to reveal our FATHER.
The Jews already had a revelation of "God" through Moses and the Hebrew Scriptures.
But that wasn't enough.
Not only did Jesus relate to God as His Father, but He encouraged His disciples to relate to God as their Father, too.
That level of familiarity was too much for the Jews to handle, and it is too much for the religious mind to grasp even today.
In some cases we are far more comfortable relating to a Big, Scary God watching us "from a distance" (as Bette Midler used to sing) than knowing a Father in Heaven Who loves us and is present with us now.
I believe the first step in understanding the Family of God is understanding the Fatherhood of God. He is, after all, the One Who started this family!
I also believe the Fatherhood of God is the first step to understanding - and forgiving - the weaknesses of our earthly fathers and finding healing and wholeness again.
We have a lot to talk about!
Join us as we examine these important issues in the light of Scripture...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Death of the Harlot Church
by Chip Brogden
Are you ready to weep over the things Jesus weeps over? Jesus wept. He was angered at the hardness of their hearts. Are you willing to speak up and speak out about the same things He does?
If you are truly one with Him then you will sense not only His joy and His peace, but you will also sense His urgency, and His dissatisfaction with those things that claim to represent Him, but do not.
I know that there are many who will say that God never sees us as anything other than the spotless Bride of Christ, all He sees is how wonderful we are and He loves us no matter what. And they will quickly dismiss anything that suggests that God is not 100% satisfied with things the way they are.
I think those with some maturity will see things differently. When I look at the Revelation of Jesus Christ, Chapters 2 and 3, I see another side of the Lord
Jesus...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
The Family of God!!!
What does it mean to be part of God's family?
What does it mean to have God as our Father and not just our God?
What does it mean to have Jesus as our older Brother and not just our Lord?
What does it mean when Scripture refers to "the family" in heaven and on earth (Eph. 3:15)?
What does it truly mean to be brothers and sisters in this family of God?
If only we could answer those questions then I think it would solve a lot of the problems we create whenever we bring the spirit of religion into the Ekklesia that Jesus is building.
If only we could see the Body of Christ as a FAMILY instead of a religious institution or church building or nonprofit organization then I think it would resolve all of our concerns and issues around authority, discipline, organization, function, and how we are supposed to treat one another.
I also think that if only we could see the spiritual family of God we would then see more clearly how our earthly families can and should function - marriage, parenting, etc.
We would also understand why things go wrong in families and in our relationships with one another - and how to make them right again.
We'll find healing from our past negative experiences and stop carrying that baggage with us everywhere we go.
As you can see, the Family of God is a big topic!
That's why I'm inviting you to join us as we kickoff a new teaching series this week that will seek answers to these questions - and many more!

Who Then Can Be Saved?
by Chip Brogden
The religious are still in the position of Nicodemus...
...coming to Jesus, acknowledging Him as something special, discussing His teachings, liking His teachings, and even sharing those teachings with others – but unable to enter the Kingdom, unable to see the Kingdom, unable to comprehend anything spiritual or heavenly, unable to discern or perceive the true significance of God’s Purpose in Christ, unable to get beyond the mental, logical, emotional, or physical realm of their religiosity.
Nicodemus failed to comprehend the spiritual consequence and heavenly requirement of being “born again” nor could he grasp the reason for it. I am afraid that many who now claim to be “born again” are no further along than Nicodemus in terms of seeing the Kingdom of God. Yet seeing and entering into the Kingdom of God is the reason why Jesus said we MUST be born again...

online for "whatever you can afford."

Scripture teaches the reality of spiritual warfare, explains why spiritual warfare is needed, and calls us to resist and overcome the adversary.
Ultimately, good will triumph over evil; light while triumph over darkness; life will triumph over death; and God will triumph over satan. But these things still exist, and spiritual warfare acknowledges both the existence of things contrary to God’s Will and the need for us to stand together with God for His Will to be done and His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. We learn this by doing it – exercising our spiritual discernment and overcoming as Christ overcame. This is the art of spiritual warfare!

Hi Elaine,
How was Paul able to persevere during incredible personal and spiritual affliction?
Because he had the benefit of seeing something most people cannot see when they are in the middle of their difficulties.
What did he see?
The future glory.
"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Rom. 8:18).
Whatever battle you're fighting right now...
Whatever the outcome...
There is a future glory that will be revealed in you.
In spite of your mistakes.
In spite of your failures.
And yes, even in spite of your sins (for there is only one Who is sinless).
Even if you lose the battle, you will win the war.
You are destined for something that makes everything worthwhile.
So much so that the sufferings of this present time all pale by comparison (elsewhere, Paul called them "light afflictions" compared to the eternal glory we will enjoy).
What could be so incredible that our present sufferings are completely forgotten?
Only a future glory, to be revealed in us, that will not just forgive the past, but heals it.
Not just makes sense of our suffering, but rewards us for it.
Not just saves us, but makes us whole.
Not just wipes away our tears, but restores everything (and everyone) we have lost.
This secret knowledge of the final outcome... this revelation of the Divine Intention... this insight into God's eternal purpose for us... empowers us in the present even as we look to the future.
Join us for this week's online Bible study as we take a trip into your future and see this glory.
This will be THE LAST LESSON in this lengthy series, and I don't want you to miss it.

How was Paul able to persevere during incredible personal and spiritual affliction?
Because he had the benefit of seeing something most people cannot see when they are in the middle of their difficulties.
What did he see?

A Brief History of Called Out Peoples
by Chip Brogden
Throughout history, God has continually called out a people, a remnant that will represent His heart and mind in the midst of universal deception and decay.
To answer this calling, God’s people have always been asked to leave where they are and travel through an unfamiliar, lonely place – a wilderness – in order to reach the place He has prepared for them.
This happened twice in the history of Israel, and it has happened twice in the history of Christianity. By looking back on how God has called His people out in times past, we can better see and appreciate the significance of the final exodus that is taking place at this time...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
Evil exists because of what man does, not what God fails to do.
Evil prevails because of what we allow, not what God allows.
From the beginning, God has made covenants (“partnerships”) with man to help him overcome evil. The Noahic covenant, the Abrahamic covenant, and eventually the Mosaic covenant with Israel all illustrate God's active resistance to evil and His desire to save us from the mess we got ourselves into.
Finally, the ultimate partnership was sending His Son to save the world and deliver us from evil; but as wonderful as that is, our work is still not done.
God did not simply eliminate Israel's enemies from the Promised Land; instead, He instructed them to go in, possess the land, and drive out their enemies.
God has the power to wipe out evil by Himself, but it is more important that WE overcome evil. There is something eternally significant in man choosing to surrender to God and successfully resisting evil.
Obviously we cannot do this by ourselves - God doesn't ask us to.
Instead, God wants (and needs) collaborators, partners, and willing participants to work with Him and overcome evil.
This is what I'm calling "Collaboration" - working together with God to see His Will and Purpose fulfilled.
In this sense we cannot say, "Jesus did it all, so we don't have to do anything."
On the contrary, we are to overcome as Jesus overcame and demonstrate the preeminence of Christ over all things that steal, kill, destroy, deceive, and lead astray.
This is the function of the Ekklesia, those who are called out of darkness and into His marvelous light.
What does that look like?
We’ll explore that divine calling in this week's online Bible study:

Today's Prophetic Mandate
by Chip Brogden
In Old Testament times, the watchman on the city wall had a mandate to warn of any dangers that approached.
This was his only duty. To carry it out, staying awake and alert was mandatory. If the watchman fell asleep and failed to warn the people, their blood would be on his hands.
Similarly, the Lord has provided a prophetic mandate to those men and women who are called to the prophetic ministry in our time...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
In a way, everything we've been studying for the last several months concerning spiritual warfare has prepared us for this week's subject: Collaboration Theodicy.
What is it?
It is my unique contribution to solving the problem of evil, since after years of studying the problem I have been dissatisfied with the "solutions" commonly presented.
If you have followed the series on spiritual warfare then you know that the "problem of evil" is the question of how a God who is all-powerful and perfectly good could allow evil to exist.
Attempts to answer that paradox are referred to as "theodices." A theodicy literally means a "defense of God."
It is particularly challenging because I am not willing to settle for anything less than God as revealed in Jesus Christ - God Who is both Great and Good - and I am unwilling to redefine Who God IS to substantiate someone's illusion of Who they think He SHOULD be.
I find that unacceptable - and I hope you do, too.
I am also not willing to say that evil exists because God isn't always Good or God isn't always Great. There has to be a better answer.
And there is.
Collaboration Theodicy is my Christ-centered, Spirit-led, Scripture-based solution to the problem of evil.
Collaboration Theodicy delineates between what God does FOR us vs. what God wishes to do WITH us.
That is, God, will not do everything for us and in our place, apart from those essential things only He can do.
For example, Divine Intervention resulted in God sending His Son to take away the sins of the world. Jesus did what we could not do, becoming as we are so we could become as He is.
But in the ordinary course of things, God collaborates with us so that we do things together with Him. For example, we have the victory in Christ, but we still must resist the devil and overcome the dragon - God will not do those things FOR us, but WITH us.
Again, notice that Jesus sent Paul (and I believe sends us) to the world "to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan to God" (Acts 26:18). As the Father sent Jesus, so Jesus sends us.
That's collaboration - working together with God to fulfill His Purpose.
And when someone says, "But we can't do anything apart from Jesus," that is exactly right.
Apart from Him we CAN do nothing; apart from us, He WILL do nothing.
But we CAN do ALL things THROUGH CHRIST Who strengthens us.
See? It's about collaboration.
The point is that God will not save the world for us, overcome the dragon for us, or deliver Creation from evil without us; He wants (and needs) collaborators, partners, willing participants - people to reach people.
WHY that is will be one of the things we consider this week as we explain this process in more detail, with examples from Scripture...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
Did you know there is a training program for spiritual warfare?
Let me explain.
Before you can overcome the Dragon, you have to overcome yourself.
You overcome yourself by embracing the Will, Way, Wisdom, and Warfare of God.
Now here's the interesting thing...
This very process of overcoming yourself IS the training program for overcoming the Dragon!
In other words... spiritual warfare is nothing more than growing, learning, and putting into practice what you are learning in the "real world."
It's learning how to walk in Love, Life, and Light.
Once you learn to overcome yourself (by submitting to the Will, Way, and Wisdom) you are learning how to win the Warfare.
Here's where it gets exciting.
The SAME PRINCIPLES for overcoming yourself are applied to overcoming the Dragon.
That is, embracing the Will, Way, and Wisdom of God empowers you in this Warfare with evil on a larger scale.
If you can embrace the Will for yourself, you can embrace the Will for All.
If you can embrace the Way for yourself, you can embrace the Way for All.
If you can embrace the Wisdom for yourself, you can embrace the Wisdom for All.
And once you overcome yourself you will be able to overcome the Dragon - not just to secure your private, personal victory, but to stand together with the rest of the Overcomers and declare the Kingdom of God and preeminence of Christ "on earth, as in heaven."
Of course, this would just be a grand theory if we didn't have Scripture to support it. :-)
So join us for this week's online Bible study as we consider these things more deeply and discuss how to apply them to your life today...

Discernment: A Matter of Life and Death
by Chip Brogden
I don’t think anyone has ever made a decision or chosen a thing because they believed it was “bad.” Of course not! We choose what we believe at the time to be good.
The trouble with that is we are still confident in the flesh, still believing we are capable of knowing good from evil. That is what Adam was looking for: the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
But over against that there is the Tree of Life, and here again is another example of the Christ-Life. Now that I am in Christ, and Christ is in me, I do not have to judge a thing by my own limited knowledge of “Good and Evil.” The issue is not “Good or Evil”, the issue is “Life or Death.” Eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil sounded like a good thing at the time. It was pleasant to look at, and it was desirable. That’s the way sin is. Sin is very desirable; if it wasn’t then no one would be temptable.
We need a spiritual compass greater than the limited knowledge of Good or Evil, Right or Wrong, Good or Bad. We need a way to recognize Life and Death...
