Well, here's a thought - Jesus never rebuked a sick person for their lack of faith. But He did rebuke His disciples when they lacked faith to heal and deliver others!
Ponder that.
The truth will make you free, but only if you are willing to embrace positive disillusionment.

"Faith Formulas" will fail.



Real, Biblical faith works by love - and love never fails!



We need to redefine what "real, Biblical faith" consists of.



Here's just one example:



Hebrews 11 (the great "faith" chapter of the New Testament) TWICE mentions people who "died in faith" and "received not the promise."



Wait! Whaaaaat???



God promised them something, they had faith and believed God for it, and yet they DID NOT RECEIVE what God promised.



I bet you never heard a sermon on that!



That's because we have been misled to think that faith is about getting what you want, when you want it. And we all want it "yesterday"!



Actually, faith is believing that God is Who He says He is, and that He will do what He says He will do - even if we don't receive its, see it, hear it, feel it, or experience it in the "here and now."



Plenty of people DO receive the promises, but many do not.



True love waits.



Faith working by love waits, too.



Because "receiving the promises" is not a function of my great faith, but of HIs great mercy, grace, and timing - and "it is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father has put in His own authority" (Acts 1:7).



See?



Anybody can have faith when they get what they are asking for!



But true faith is trusting God whether you get the answer or not!



Oh, there is so much more... we have only just begun...



You simply DO NOT want to miss this study because it will correct DECADES of false teaching and light a fire under you!

Say to Archippus

“And say to Archippus, ‘Take heed to the ministry
which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it
… remember my bonds'” (Colossians 4:17,18ff).

This personal footnote at the closing of Paul’s letter to the Colossians deserves a closer look. Perhaps in this word of exhortation to Archippus someone may see an application to their situation today.
Someone like Archippus had to be encouraged to fulfill the ministry God had given him. Why? Because it was not something anyone would pursue on their own accord. People did not pursue ministry in the Early Church; ministry pursued them. Ministry was not organized into a hierarchy, and it offered them little or nothing in terms of financial or material reward. It promised little or nothing in the way of fame, recognition, or privilege.



This probably accounts for the reason why, in those days, the Harvest was truly plentiful, but the laborers were few. Today the self-appointed laborers are so many that they are trampling all over the Harvest. The professional clergy and the attitude it brings has become a liability to the Lord of the Harvest, not an asset. They have become a hindrance to the Harvest instead of a help; and today, rather than pray for more laborers to go forth, we might be better off to pray for some of them to go back home and sit at the feet of Jesus for awhile...

Hello Elaine,

Don't misunderstand...

I believe in miracles and divine healing.

I even believe in wealth - if you are willing to work for it.

But I reject the notion that FAITH is a force we can use to magically manifest everything we ask for.

That is appealing only if you interpret FAITH through a self-centered or Church-centered lens; then FAITH becomes a religious formula.

For those pursuing a Love Relationship, "faith formulas" have no place.

There is another possibility: A Christ-centered FAITH based on relationship.

This kind of FAITH works by LOVE.

And so the Lord said to me...


"Before you can understand how FAITH works, you have to understand how LOVE works, because FAITH works by LOVE."

Isn't that wonderful?

Blessed Are the Disillusioned

People think disillusionment is a bad thing, but to be disillusioned means you have been stripped of your illusion.
You had a fantasy about something, a false impression, and now that false impression has been exposed. You have seen the truth, and you have been dis-illusioned.

When people come to me and say they have been disillusioned with the church, I say praise the Lord – now you can make some progress! And when they come to me and say, “I’m so disappointed with God, I can’t make sense out of my Christian walk. I’m so disillusioned,” I say that is wonderful – now you’re really beginning to grow up spiritually. You cannot see the truth about God, or about the church, or about yourself, until you stop living in the world of illusions.

The opposite of illusion is reality and truth. Authenticity is the opposite of hypocrisy. We have already mentioned how much Jesus dislikes hypocrisy. Jesus is the one who disillusions people so that they can see the truth behind the illusion...

Hello Elaine,
I have always felt that I am having to "unteach" a lot of the erroneous ideas we picked up from Organized Religion (and from the Word of Faith movement in particular) that have led us astray from the simplicity of Christ.
Especially when it comes to FAITH.
I am afraid that for too many people, FAITH is something like "the Force" in Star Wars - some kind of universal energy you can use to manifest wealth and prosperity.
"Use the Force, Luke! Let go! Trust your feelings!"
"Oh, the Force is strong in that one!"
"Beware the power of the dark side of the Force!"
This is what New Age folks teach.
But when Christians teach THE SAME THING they call it "FAITH" and quote Bible verses to support it, so somehow that makes it OK.
If you're up for it, I invite you to take a FAITH JOURNEY with us as we explore the heights and depths of TRUE, BIBLICAL, CHRIST-CENTERED FAITH.
I'm talking about MOUNTAIN MOVING FAITH combined with UNFAILING LOVE that overcomes anything and everything that comes against it.

The Secret Place of the Most High

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the
shadow of the Almighty” (Ps. 91:1)

How do we make the Lord our habitation? How can He become a place for us to dwell in?
Well, it was a mystery for them in the Old Testament. They could go to the Temple, and they knew the priest could enter into the Holy of Holies, and perhaps that would be the closest anyone could get to dwelling, abiding, in the Lord, or at least, being in the presence of the Lord. But that was only for a few priests, it was not available to everyone.

Then we come to those wonderful words of Jesus in John 15, and we begin to understand. It is quite beyond human explanation. It remains a mystery, a locked door, until the Lord Jesus Himself comes to us and reveals the mystery and unlocks the door.

The fruit of the Spirit is the outward evidence of the inward Life.

Just as the tree is known by the fruit it produces, so the spiritual man or woman is known by the spiritual fruit they produce

Do not mistake this for works or deeds.

Works and deeds are useful, but many will say "Lord, Lord" and do works and deeds in His Name but are not know to Him.
The fruit is about the Character of Christ being reproduced in a person.

You can't fake that - either it's there, or it isn't.

This is really the goal of the ministry of the Holy Spirit...

Not simply to fill us with power...
Not only to give us spiritual gifts...
Not merely to give us wisdom and revelation...
But to reproduce the very Life, Nature, and Character of Christ in us.
We'll consider this as we conclude our series...

How to Yield to God

In our daily life we come up against situations that we cannot overcome in our own strength, or with our own wisdom. We need a strength and a wisdom that comes from Above, that comes from Beyond, that comes from Another outside of us and yet rises up from within us.
If you are truly born-again then you have experienced this at least once in your life, in at least one area of your life. At least once you have come to recognize your inability to save yourself, and so you surrendered to Christ and trusted Jesus to do in you and through you what you could not do on your own. That surrender was, in essence, “taking up the Cross” with respect to your salvation. I have died to saving myself. I cannot save myself; and since I cannot, I will not. I will only trust in the Life of the Lord to do what I have (at last!) learned that I cannot do.



This is what is means to “embrace the Cross” in the area of salvation. And we see that when the death to Self is thorough and complete – that is, when we stop trying to save ourselves and cast ourselves upon the grace of God, then God raises us from the dead. That which was impossible before is now accomplished by God. We are thankful recipients of His grace, and He receives all the praise and the glory since we have done nothing and He has done everything. This is the principle of the Cross...

Hello Elaine,
From the dawn of Creation, God expressed His desire for all living things:
“Be fruitful and multiply.”
This is the natural state of creation and God’s intention for our spiritual life as well.
We learned last week that the Difficult Path is difficult - not impossible.
But to walk this Difficult Path means repudiating the unfruitful fig tree of Religion and living in Jesus continually.
The branch cannot bear fruit of itself, and Religion cannot substitute for Relationship.

But even our understanding of "bearing fruit" is affected by our religious hangover.
In the Institutional Church, "producing fruit" usually means working really hard to be a Christian: going to church, paying tithes, witnessing, and trying to be like Jesus.
But that is not fruit - those are just works.
Pleasing man, doing for man, applauded by man.
Fruit comes forth naturally as we live in a love relationship with Jesus.

Yes, fruit leads to good works (it makes good works possible) but works are not fruit.
So what does spiritual fruit look like?
How can we discern it and know it?

The Hidden Christ

Jesus, the Christ of God, did not reveal Himself to the world at large, but to a handful of disciples. We ought to ask why He did not appear upon a mountain in blinding light, or descend in a cloud, but was born into the world as a baby in a stable.
A few shepherds worshipped Him the night He was born, Simeon and Anna blessed Him in the Temple at His dedication, and two years later some astrologers from the East worshipped Him. But no one else in all the world grasped the significance of this Child. It was hidden from 99.9% of the world.



When Jesus first met Peter, what was Peter’s perception of Jesus? Here is a rabbi who has attracted quite a large gathering of people with His interesting stories and teachings. Very well, there is nothing wrong with that, I’ll even let you borrow my boat while you preach. Did Peter perceive Who this Man really was?

WHERE'S THE BEEF?
And as we look on the state of Organized Religion today we ought to ask a similar but more Scriptural question:

WHERE'S THE FRUIT?

I love that you can't fake the fruit of the Spirit!

The Corinthians exercised spiritual gifts, even though they were carnal; but they could not be carnal and produce spiritual fruit.
Yes, you can fake the spiritual gifts, and many do, and deceive others.

But you cannot fake love, joy, peace, or any other fruit of the Spirit!

A good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit.

Not to say that any of us are spiritually perfect, only to say that the fruit is the evidence of whether or not we are walking with Jesus.

Spiritual fruit shows whether we have a Mental Religion or a Love Relationship!
Spiritual fruit is actually the end result, the goal, the outcome, of the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Everything the Spirit does in pointing us to Jesus is towards this one purpose: to transform us into the very image and character of Christ.

So we would be remiss in our teaching if we focused on the promise, the power, and the gifts of the Spirit but did not examine the end result: the fruit!

When You Fast

We have sensed a need for some clear teaching along the lines of prayer and fasting, and of the two, fasting seems to be the most misunderstood or the least talked about among Christians.
Those in the Western world have very little experience with fasting, whereas those in the Eastern world are very experienced. Fasting is not limited to Christians only; most religious people in the East observe some kind of fasting, regardless of their faith.



That Jesus intends for His disciples to fast is made clear by the words, “When you fast…” If it were a matter of personal preference the Lord would have said, “IF you fast.” The word WHEN implies that there will be times when a disciple of the Lord is called into a time of fasting. It seems to be a foregone conclusion. Fasting is as much a part of a disciple’s life as prayer; hence the Lord couples, “When you pray” with “when you fast” in His teaching to the disciples...

Hello Elaine,

We saw last week that spiritual gifts are just one aspect of the ministry of the Holy Spirit.



Paul prayed for the Ephesians - people who were already saved, filled with the Spirit, and exercising spiritual gifts - that God would grant them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ.



It is the Spirit Who leads us into all Truth, brings to our remembrance everything Jesus said, and reveals to us the height, depth, length, width, and breadth of God's Purpose, God's Love, and God's Fullness in Christ.



While spiritual gifts are useful and needful in specific circumstances, the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation is the fruit of a Christ-centered faith and the inevitable outcome of discipleship.



That is, so long as we follow Jesus through the Gate and all the way down the Path.

The Foolishness of the Cross

How I wish taking up the Cross was a once-and-for-all thing, that you could just crucify Self and give the thing you are grasping over to God, get the imprint of the Cross on it, and receive it back in three days in its resurrected form.
But there is always a deeper death to die and a greater Life to come forth from death, so I find the process must be constantly repeated.

A ministry (or more importantly, the minister) will pass through many seasons of death, burial, and resurrection. But even in this I see that He does not turn “taking up the Cross” into a work of the flesh, and does not reject our feeble attempts to do what we think is right, even when we are wholly or partially motivated by flesh...

Hello Elaine,

Yes, there is more to the Spirit-filled life than spiritual gifts!
For the last several months we've explored the ministry of the Holy Spirit and looked at the role of spiritual gifts.
But there is more.

We come now to another critical role of the Holy Spirit, which is, to provide "wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ."

It is the Spirit Who leads us into all Truth (Christ).

It is the Spirit Who takes what belongs to Christ and reveals it to us.

it is the Spirit Who brings to our remembrance everything Jesus taught.

Together with the spiritual gifts, the wisdom and revelation of the Holy Spirit sets us on a path of spiritual growth, maturity, and fruitfulness.

Just as COOPERATING with the Holy Spirit facilitates spiritual gifts, so COOPERATING with the Holy Spirit facilitates wisdom and revelation.

Of course, the question is...

HOW do we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in such a ways as to receive wisdom and revelation, overcome obstacles of doubt and fear, and create spiritual breakthroughs that move mountains?

May God deliver us from our own idea, concept, perception, and illusion of a small Christ and give us revelation into the preeminence of His Son.

Hello Elaine,
When I was 12 years old, someone laid hands on me and I was filled with the Holy Spirit.
How do I know?
Because I ended up on the floor, crying and praising God in a language I had never learned!

Was it a momentary fit of hysteria?

Well, I've been speaking, praying, and singing in tongues for 40 years since - so if this is "hysteria" then it's the only case I know of that has lasted this long!

Am I saying everyone MUST speak in tongues like me?

Of course not. The Spirit moves as He wills.
But you cannot tell me "tongues are not for today" or "the gifts of the Spirit are not for today." That's like telling me "breathing is not for today."

Just because you haven't experienced something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I'm living proof it's real (and of course, I'm not the only one).

Yes, there is a lot of bad teaching and misunderstanding around speaking in tongues.
Yes, some people might even be faking it. So what?
We can go to Scripture and see that the early Believers also spoke in tongues.

Sometimes they went about it the wrong way (like in Corinth), but they were at least open to being taught so they could grow and mature in their use of their gift without denying them or quenching them altogether.

Lonely, But Never Alone

The more in tune with the Lord we become, the more dissatisfied and uncomfortable we become with what is being said and done in His Name.
Yet, there is an uncomfortable pause between where we used to be and where we are called to be. It is a lonely time in which we will be misunderstood by many that have not seen what we have seen.

What God is impressing upon many of us who are in-between the church as a building and the church as a lifestyle is how to walk ALONE. We must not forsake the assembling of ourselves together when we are able to do so; yet God would have us learn to fellowship with Christ, even it means to take the lonely path...
