The Hidden Christ
by Chip Brogden
God has purposely hidden Christ and makes Him available to us only by revelation when we have humbled ourselves as children and forsaken our wisdom.
Jesus, the Christ of God, did not reveal Himself to the world at large, but to a handful of disciples. We ought to ask why He did not appear upon a mountain in blinding light, or descend in a cloud, but was born into the world as a baby in a stable.
A few shepherds worshipped Him the night He was born, Simeon and Anna blessed Him in the Temple at His dedication, and two years later some astrologers from the East worshipped Him. But no one else in all the world grasped the significance of this Child. It was hidden from 99.9% of the world...

Hi Elaine,
It may seem strange to study the birth of Jesus here in June...
But only if you never think about it apart from December.
To me, the birth of Jesus is something to celebrate every day.
This birth represents HOPE FOR ALL.
The message of Luke (as a Gentile writing for Gentiles) is that Jesus Christ (Anointed Savior) is not just Israel's Messiah, but is the Savior of All and "a light to the Gentiles."
True to this purpose, Luke reveals things in this week's chapter that are unique and only found in Luke's gospel.
We'll look at them in this week's Bible study
Join us as we explore the wonder and mystery of God becoming a Man.

Worship: Person, Place or Thing?
by Chip Brogden
Relationship views everything in terms of a “person.”
Religion views everything in terms of “place” or “thing.”
People who see worship as a “person” worship the Lord wherever they are, in Spirit and in Truth. Worship is deeper than singing songs with other people. When you see worship as a “person” you never express a loss, missing something or needing something you don’t have. You are satisfied with the “person” Who is with you always...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
Sometimes I wish we could hit the "DELETE" button in our brain and read the Scriptures as though we have never read them before.
We read and listen to stories about the birth of Jesus and I am afraid we do not fully and properly appreciate the momentousness of this divine intervention.
That a woman should become pregnant by the Holy Spirit and give birth to the Son of God!
Incredible!
An occasion so spectacular that angels broke through the veil separating the spiritual realm from the earthly realm so they could announce it and celebrate it.
Heaven just could not contain itself.
Truly, nothing like this had ever happened before or since; and the next great occasion for angelic rejoicing will not be until this Holy Child appears for a second time; not as a Child, but as The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
But first, He humbled Himself and become a Man; more than that, He became a Baby - human, helpless, and completely dependent on His parents.
That is the message of Luke: that the Son of God became the Son of Man so that we could all become sons and daughters of God.
Amazing.
And although we can't really hit the "DELETE" button and pretend like we are hearing this for this first time, I think we can ask the Lord to soften our hearts, open our eyes, and help us to touch something of the spirit revealed in those prayers and praises from Luke 1.
Join us this week as we re-discover it together...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
All Things in Christ
by Chip Brogden
“For of Him, and through Him, and to Him,
are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen."
Romans 11:36
Whenever I teach from a passage that includes the phrase “all things” I usually stop and ask, “Now how many things does ‘all things’ include?” And the people always respond, “Everything!” That word “all” is a very large word, a very encompassing word. There is nothing outside of “all”! How casually and easily we allow our eyes to glance past these words. We have not comprehended them. If we comprehended them we could not read them with a yawn, but we would read them with a shout!
Let us go through the Scriptures and bring out a few gems from the storehouse of tremendous wealth and riches in Christ. Our criteria for selecting these particular Scriptures was very simple. We wanted to look at every reference that mentions Christ in connection with His preeminence over “all things”. We found quite a number. There are dozens more references that support our study, but we have included only the ones which contain the phrase “all things”. Once we gathered the references together, we sorted them according to Romans 11:36 – those that are OF Him, those that are THROUGH Him, and those that are TO Him.
The result of that study is the basis of this writing. I pray these will not be mere verses of Scripture to us, but will be the very means through which the Father gives us greater illumination and revelation into His Son. We ought to meditate on this daily and ask the Lord to open our eyes to see the height, depth, width, length, and breadth of this JESUS Whom we say we serve. May God deliver us from our own idea, concept, perception, and illusion of a small Christ and give us revelation into the preeminence of His Son.
I promise that if you will read through these verses once or twice a day, every day, it will be impossible for you to remain unaffected by the Truth they present...

Hi Elaine,
After a short break, we resume our online Bible studies this week with a chapter-by-chapter study of the Gospel of Luke.
Luke's gospel is unique for its Gentile perspective on Jesus and Jewish life in the first century, its detailed account of events prior to the birth of Jesus, and its presentation of Jesus as "the Son of Man."
Luke is the prequel to Acts, both written by the same author, who was a doctor and gave us a very detailed description of Jesus' miracles.
In a time when so many people are saying so many things, I find it refreshing to just go to the Source and read the words of Jesus Himself.
I hope you will join us for this new series by registering below:

My Mother and My Brothers
by Chip Brogden
If we could really see the Ekklesia for what it is – a family – then we will immediately know Who the Head of the family is, who the elders are, what they are supposed to do, who has authority, and who does not. We would no longer be concerned with a corporate structure, but we would simply relate to one another as members of the same family.
The question that Jesus asked bears repeating today: Who is my brother? Who is my sister? Who is my mother? Certainly not everyone who says, “Lord! Lord!” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. In similar manner, not everyone who says, “Brother! Brother!” is really a brother. Yet learning how to be a good brother or a good sister is the first thing Jesus wants to teach us. When we are born into this Family that is all we are – a brother or a sister. Every apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, pastoral, or teaching ministry must have, as its foundation, the spiritual depth and maturity of knowing how to “just” be a brother or sister. We skip this necessary preparation at our own peril, and the Family of God suffers as a result...

The Law of Decrease
by Chip Brogden
Just like the Law of Increase, the Law of Decrease does not depend upon your understanding, agreement, or acceptance. It must be so, therefore it is so. Just as surely as Christ must increase, so you must decrease.
People only resist what they do not know and understand. Jesus does not have to manipulate anyone. Once a person with eyes wide open sees Him for Who He is they will always choose Him. He is irresistible. And as He increases, as He is lifted up, He will draw all men unto Himself. So this is the First Universal Spiritual Principle:that Christ must increase.
But there is another side to this. Remember there are Two Universal Spiritual Principles in John 3:30. What is the second? I must decrease. On the one hand, Jesus must increase. Then there is that tiny word “but.” Jesus must increase – but! Something hinders this increase. There is an exception here, signified by the presence of the word “but.” Here is a potential obstacle to the increase of Christ and the fulfillment of God’s Eternal Purpose. “But… I must decrease.” That is the Second Universal Spiritual Principle...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
A simple, Christ-centered faith transcends external labels and distinctions.
When we "put on the New Man" then everything "old" fades into the background.
No Greek or Jew.
No circumcised or uncircumcised.
No Barbarian, Scythian, bond or free.
"But Christ is all, and in all" (Col. 3:11).
This was revolutionary in the early days of the Ekklesia.
And if we were to somehow live this way today it would be extraordinary.
Would it be "easy"?
Division is easier than unity, only because we are more prone to focus on external things that don't matter.
Regardless, we've been talking about seeing the Body of Christ as "the family of God."
In this unifying vision of a family, we have One Father and we are all brothers and sisters - some older, some younger.
This concept is difficult to grasp in our fractured, dysfunctional society where virtually every relationship is broken.
But we get glimpses of this in the New Testament, and the little book of Philemon is useful in this regard.
Only one chapter in this short letter, but well worth our consideration.

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
The Law of Increase
by Chip Brogden
On what basis do we make the statement that God’s Purpose is irresistible? This understanding is founded on two basic truths revealed in the Scriptures. We call them the Two Universal Spiritual Principles.
Scripture confirms what we already know to be true: that even though God “has put all things under” the feet of Jesus, it remains that “we do not yet see all things put under Him” (Heb. 2:8b). Even though Jesus is Lord, not everyone recognizes that, appreciates it, or acknowledges it. Our adversary the devil still walks around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.15 That there exists some spiritual force that continues in active resistance to Christ is proof enough that we do not yet see all things put under Him. We also note the presence of sin, poverty, disease, death, and evil as being very much a part of the world in which we live. So there is still much to be done in terms of putting all things beneath Him.
But the presence of the word “yet” should inspire us and fill us with hope! Although we do not yet see all things put under Him, the word “yet” implies that eventually we will see all things put under Him. That is to say, in due course, God’s Purpose will be fulfilled, and we will see all things put under Him – even though we do not “yet” see it...

Although we do not yet see all things put under Him, the word “yet” implies that eventually we will see all things put under Him. That is to say, in due course, God’s Purpose will be fulfilled, and we will see all things put under Him – even though we do not “yet” see it...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
Jesus said a tree is known by the fruit it produces.
The same thing is true with people.
If we are "abiding in the Vine" then we will produce fruit.
In other words: Your beliefs are revealed by your behavior.
Scripture affirms that we are not saved by good works, but that our good works show we have been saved.
This makes the Christian walk very practical indeed.
While we can't judge people's heart, we can certainly know them by their fruit.
And if the fruit is bad, the tree is bad, no matter what the tree says it believes.
Join us for this week's study as we discussed the difference between grace and good works, and how both work together to produce spiritual fruit:

Resurrected With Christ
by Chip Brogden
Scripture bears witness to a most amazing spiritual truth: that disciples of Jesus are the crucified, dead, buried, resurrected, ascended, and seated Branches of a crucified, dead, buried, resurrected, ascended, and seated Vine.
How is this possible? Trace it as far back as you can, beginning with where you are “now.”
You are seated together with Christ because you ascended together with Christ.
You ascended together with Christ because you were resurrected and made alive together with Christ.
You were resurrected and made alive together with Christ because you were buried together with Christ.
You were buried together with Christ because you died together with Christ.
You died together with Christ because you were crucified together with Christ.
I'm not making these statements up - they are all recorded in Scripture! Without a doubt, these are some of the greatest, most mysterious truths in the universe...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
Last week we discussed how religion injected itself into the King James Version.
Instead of imagining that believers in the New Testament were wrapped up in a false religious system like the one we created, we found an alternative explanation:
"The Body of Christ is the Family of God."
As a family, you naturally have those who are "older" - these are the elders.
And those elders are supposed to watch over, protect, and help the ones who are "younger" in the Lord.
This is how normal-functioning families behave.
It's also a great way for thinking about how spiritual truth is handed down.
Yes, there is a place is this Family of God for both men and women to teach and to pass on lessons learned to those coming along after them.
(Unlike the male-dominated Institutional Church corporation, God's Family has both elder men and elder women - and only one Head of the House!)
We'll explore this in depth this week:

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Spiritual Leadership: Who Needs It?
by Chip Brogden
All around us, institutions are failing and losing influence. Governments are in turmoil. Our schools are a mess. The Institutional Church is compromised and has lost its moral and spiritual authority. Our communities are in crisis. Marriage is being re-defined and the Biblical idea of “family” is becoming more and more of a rarity.
As people lose faith in these institutions and the people who lead them they are tempted to dismiss the idea of leadership altogether – particularly when the only leadership they have ever experienced has been an autocratic, dictatorial kind of leadership. When it comes to spiritual leadership, this causes many believers to say, “Who needs leaders? We all have the Holy Spirit. Let’s just be led of the Lord!”
This sounds perfectly acceptable in theory; but in actual practice, we see that God still raises up and uses spiritual leadership to bring His people where He wants them to be...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
It is a great mistake to read what the New Testament says about "church" and think the religious system we created is somehow described in Scripture.
It's like shooting an arrow and painting a target around wherever it happens to land.
Those who talk about "church government" especially love the pastoral epistles of Paul, where he talks about bishops and deacons and elders and such.
But all these things have been corrupted by the spirit of religion into something Paul never imagined.
Even the devil can quote Scripture to defend his distortions of reality!
Let's strip all our modern-day notions of "church" and look at what believers in Jesus experienced long before there was a church building on every corner.
A great place to start is with the elders.
Who are the elders?
Why does the KJV call them "bishops"?
(A classic example of taking a religious title and injecting it into Scripture to give it a semblance of Scriptural authority.)
Do we still need elders?
If not, why not?
If so, what are their qualifications?
I hope you can join us this week as we kickoff a new series of studies:

To Him That Overcomes
by Chip Brogden
“And they overcame [the dragon] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their Testimony, and they loved not their own lives unto the death” (Revelation 12:11).
Who is an Overcomer? If the Overcomers are not earthly conquerors or crusaders, what are they? Overcomers are simply Christians who live the normal Christian life. That is, the normal Christian life, as God intends, is a life that overcomes. It is not a life that is defeated. So what is the “normal” Christian life? It is a life which demonstrates the preeminence of Jesus Christ over all things.
How do we measure victory or defeat? What characterizes one Christian as an Overcomer, and another Christian as defeated? In Revelation 12:11 we see exactly what an Overcomer is – someone who defeats the dragon. Obviously the dragon symbolizes the devil. We see three arenas of conflict in which Overcomers are made. There is the blood of the Lamb, the word of their Testimony, and “loving not” their lives...
