Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hey Elaine,
Plain clay pots on the outside...
But amazingly beautiful treasure on the inside.
The clay pot may be fragile, rough, ugly, cracked, or dull.
Sometimes the "cracked pots" (or crackpots) are the most valuable.
Because in our brokenness we see something deeper...
And it's the treasure inside that counts!
What a wonderful way to illustrate the Christ-Life within us.
It helps us better understand why the outward circumstance doesn't always agree with the inward reality.
The question is: which is more real to you - the outward, or the inward?
Do we look at things seen, or things unseen?
Is it "all about us" or "all about Him"?
These are some powerful distinctions to make.
And these insights will help us to overcome by being a better clay pot :-)

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hey Elaine,
Would you graduate from college and then go back to elementary school?
That's what too many Christians want to do when they ignorantly put themselves under the Old Covenant.
The Bible is a progressive revelation - you're supposed to learn and grow along with it.
What does it mean to you?
It means the difference between death or life, condemnation or reconciliation, fear or freedom, religion or relationship!
You can have either one you like but you cannot have both.
So we'll compare and contrast the Old and the New in tonight's online Bible study:

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hey Elaine,
Too many Christians are following Old Testament doctrine.
Those who have tasted the New Wine understand why Paul said, "The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life" (2 Cor. 3:6).
The Old Covenant is based on a imperfect revelation of God.
For example, even though David was "a man after God's own heart" and we love him, he did not have a perfect revelation.
How do I know?
Because David did not love his enemies!
David hated the wicked, despised his enemies, and constantly prayed that God would wipe them out for him.
Compare that to Jesus, Who taught us to "love your enemies."
Yes, David was a little religious.
And when we read the Psalms we have to understand that David is seeing God as he expects to see Him, not necessarily how God really is.
Paul calls all of that Old Testament revelation a "ministry of death."
Strong words!
But it's the truth.
"The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
So why would anyone in their right mind go back to a "ministry of death" when Jesus gives us a new and living covenant?
In their right mind, they wouldn't - but religion blinds you to reality.

5 Reasons Why Fellowship Eludes Us
by Chip Brogden
If everyone is looking for fellowship, why is fellowship so hard to find? And once we have found it, why is it so hard to maintain it?
Why is fellowship so elusive to us? Everyone says they seek it, yet everyone says it is difficult to find. Those who find it cannot maintain it for long. Those that do manage to maintain it often end up looking more like an institutional church than a real Body of Christ.
I submit the following five reasons…

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hey Elaine,
Previously, I said that Second Corinthians is like the "Job" of the New Testament.
In Paul's letter, we see his trials and tribulations, just like Job.
Another similarity between Job and Paul is the presence of a spiritual adversary making life difficult.
That's right!
Even if you solve all your personal problems...
Even if you manage to escape all accidents, mistakes, and natural disasters in this fallen world...
Even if you somehow avoid all conflicts with other people...
There is STILL a spiritual entity opposed to God - and therefore, opposed to you!
So any discussion about "suffering" would be incomplete without acknowledging that there is a real devil trying to mess you up.
Now, I'm not the person who sees a demon behind every bush and under every rock.
But it's interesting to take notice of the devil in both Job and in Second Corinthians, lurking behind the scenes, stirring up trouble.
Satan is not the source of all our problems, but satan is an instigator and deceiver.
The difference between Job and Paul is that Job never even knew the devil was coming after him.
Paul saw what Job could not: that there is a spiritual force in the universe trying to steal, kill, destroy, deceive, seduce, and lead astray.
Now the difference between Paul and some Christians is that Paul sees all this, but also sees CHRIST IN YOU as greater than anything the devil can throw at you.
Paul doesn't use the devil as an excuse for being defeated.
Paul also has an amazing revelation:
That GOD IS ON OUR SIDE.
It's the devil who is out to accuse the brethren and destroy the world.
God is out to SAVE the world, not condemn it!
That's huge!
And that's just one element of truth we'll cover in this week's online Bible study:

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
A Brief History of Called-Out Peoples
by Chip Brogden
Throughout history, God has continually called out a people, a remnant that will represent His heart and mind in the midst of universal deception and decay.
To answer this calling, God’s people have always been asked to leave where they are and travel through an unfamiliar, lonely place – a wilderness – in order to reach the place He has prepared for them.
This happened twice in the history of Israel, and it has happened twice in the history of Christianity. By looking back on how God has called His people out in times past, we can better see and appreciate the significance of the final exodus that is taking place at this time...

Hey Elaine,
This week is the beginning of a New Year and a new Bible study!
We begin with SECOND CORINTHIANS, which contains one of the most RAW personal testimonies in Scripture.
Second Corinthians is like the JOB of the New Testament!
It's where all your doctrines and beliefs are tested in the crucible of pain, suffering, and affliction.
And you wonder...
Why do bad things happens to good people?
Why am I having a hard time?
Am I doing something wrong?
The whole letter is an eye-opening journey that seeks answers to those questions.
And those answers may surprise you.
Join us online as we kick off 2019 with this exciting new study!

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
Christians often complain to me about feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, not having enough time, and just feeling out of balance.
They ask me questions like:
How can I keep myself from feeling like I’m pulled in so many directions at once?
How can I put Jesus first – and still take care of the things I need to take care of?
How can I reduce stress, slow down, enjoy life?
How can I find a purpose that inspires me to do what needs to be done, day by day?
At the beginning of every new year, people make resolutions about things they want to do, or change. But most of these resolutions are broken by the end of the first month.
This is where people often miss the mark – they make resolutions and goals, they make plans for the future, but they have never really sat down and defined what their real purpose in life is. And even if they figure out their Purpose, they don’t know how to organize their day around doing things connected with their Purpose.
Most importantly, they don’t involve God deeply enough in their plans, and they don’t apply Biblical principles critical for their success. For a Christian, it’s not just deciding what you want to do, and then doing it. It means…
Getting before God to determine His Purpose for your life;
Setting good goals in alignment with God’s Will for you;
Learning how to simplify, slow down, relax, and destressify yourself so you don’t get overwhelmed.
And it means paying attention to every area of your life – not just your spiritual life, but your emotional state, your physical health, and your relationships.
Sound hard? It can be…
But this program is designed to point you in the right direction and make things a whole lot easier!

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hi Elaine,
It is not about celebrating WHEN Christ was born, but THAT He was born.
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given..." (Isa.9:6).
THAT He was born is a miracle.
THAT He died and lives again is marvelous.
THAT He lives in you and me is mind-blowing.
THAT He intends to be "All in All" is mind-boggling.
I especially love the third stanza of that wonderful hymn that so clearly reveals His purpose...
"Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name!"
Karla and I pray that the blessing of Jesus, the One Gift of God, will be with you and all your family and loved ones, today and every day.

How the Word Becomes Flesh
by Chip Brogden
On December 25 each year
many people celebrate Christmas.
While there are differences of opinion among Christians as to how or if this holiday should be observed, I take the same view as Paul did on how to celebrate the Sabbath: “One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind” (Rom. 14:5).
What ought to really excite us whenever we contemplate the birth of Jesus is the fact that “the Word became flesh.” This is the most remarkable event in the history of God’s dealings with mankind. The implications are staggering. Most interesting is the fact that John declares this significant truth – that God became a man – without even referencing His birth in Bethlehem. Those details are provided by other Gospel writers, but for John, the spiritual import of this momentous occasion transcended the physical, geographic, historical, and political context in which it took place.
I find three notable truths about this extraordinary event...

Our little cocker spaniel rescue dog, Cody, has been yelping in pain with a bad back this week.
We immediately took him to the vet and put him on some meds.
He's doing better now but still taking it easy.
It got me thinking about PAIN.
This whole creation "groans and travails in pain" for now, but God is working through Christ (and us!) to deliver all creation from the curse (Rom. 8:22).
God does not inflict pain; He delivers us from pain.
God is not a destroyer or a tormentor; it's the devil who deceives, devours, and destroys.
Pain is not part of God's original purpose.
Neither is death and hell.
As proof of this, in the age to come, God is going to hit the "reset" button on All Creation and deliver ALL from sin, self, and satan.
We can start a nice, long list of things that will be "no more" during Creation's Jubilee:
- No more tears!
- No more death!
- No more hell!
- No more sickness!
- No more sorrow!
- No more crying!
- No more pain!
All these are part of "the former things" that will pass away after God makes "all things new" (Rev. 21:4,5).
And it's all possible because of the great victory over death and hell that Jesus won on behalf of all who are slaves of sin (as we all are or have been).
Aren't you thankful?
Whatever pain you're experiencing now will not be forever.
Here's the point:
Even animals deserve a pain-free existence; how much more the children of Adam, made in the image of God?
Join us this week as we consider the promises together:

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
The Goal of This Age
by Chip Brogden
I came to the realization one day that I will not be perfected in this lifetime.
My wife has known this for years, but as a perfectionist the news hit me hard.
It should have been reassuring! That there are “ages to come” where God will continue to demonstrate His grace and kindness to all (Eph. 2:7) – particularly to those who didn’t fully grasp it in this age – is very, very good news!
That means people are a work in progress. What then is God’s goal for this age? If not spiritual perfection, then perhaps it is something more attainable...

The Harvest is truly plentiful...
but the laborers are few.
Since 1995 we have gone in many different directions - Watchman.Net, The School television ministry, The School of Christ, etc.
The methods and ministries may have changed over the years, but at the core of it all is: "Preserving a Christ-Centered Faith that is based on Relationship, Not Religion."
Today, we're not building a ministry organization - we're building people.

Will you help me preserve a Christ-centered Faith for the next generation?
For many years I was a pastor, teacher and worship leader in the church system. One day, “Jesus ruined my life” by revealing Himself to me in a profound way. And I’m so glad that He did! That was the end of my career as a preacher for Organized Religion – but the beginning of an exciting journey into the depths of Christ “outside the camp.”
Since 1995, I’ve shared my unique perspective with people all over the world who are sick and tired of “Churchianity” and want to get back to their First Love – or even find Him for the first time.
1 Tim. 2:2 says, “Teach these things to faithful people who can teach others.” If Christ-centered teaching is not preserved and handed down to the next generation, it will be lost in the milieu of liberalism, atheism, Churchianity, and false religions. It is very nearly lost already. We must do what the Institutional Church has failed to do: we must teach these things to faithful people who can teach others to ensure the continuity of the Testimony of Jesus until He returns.

Hey Elaine,
We had a wee snowstorm over the weekend that knocked out our power and telephone.
We got the power back... but no telephone, so no Internet.
I made a special trip to the library so I can send you this invitation!
-------
Jesus came to destroy death and to deliver those who were bound by the fear of death (Heb. 2).
"Death and hell" are not part of God's wonderful plan, no more than sickness, suffering, pain, and sorry are part of His plan - all of these things are the consequences of sin and satan, and all of them will be removed in the New Heaven and Earth.
But RIGHT NOW, in Christ, God has already shown His intention: to destroy death and hell and to set the captives free.
When that happens, Scripture declares that ALL will be submitted to Christ and "God will be ALL IN ALL."
What a great day that will be!
The Old Testament even has a word for it: JUBILEE!
In the year of JUBILEE, All debts are forgiven, all slaves are released, and everything lost is restored again.
Obviously, we aren't there yet.
But Love never fails, and God will continue to work until:
All enemies are defeated...
All obstacles are removed...
All hindrances are eliminated...
EVERY knee bows...
EVERY tongue confesses...
And Jesus is truly LORD OF ALL!
God is able and willing.
The question is: do we believe Him?

Adjustment to the Government of the Holy Spirit
by Chip Brogden
The purpose of revelation is not to SUBSTANTIATE your illusions, but to ELIMINATE them.
Now I just love that word adjustment. Adjustment. I know it is uncomfortable and disconcerting to have the sense that everything you thought you knew is wrong (or at best, incomplete), and God shows you a different way, a more excellent way, and usually that “way” is not a way that you would have chosen or come to on your own. It is not a process that anyone particularly enjoys going through.
Even so, we are all in need of a major adjustment...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hey Elaine,
One of the most powerful verses of Scripture is something few people want to talk about.
"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive" (1 Cor. 15:22).
Depending on how you read this, you can either respond to it as:
"I know that already."
Or...
"What an awesomely terrific promise that blows my mind!"
I choose the latter. :-)
But I'm a little bit biased because I've studied this chapter already in preparation for what I will share with you this week.
I invite you to come experience how GOOD the GOOD NEWS really is!

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
One Flock, One Shepherd
By Chip Brogden
We must see before God that He has already made us One Flock under One Shepherd. This is not some future event, but a spiritual reality, waiting for us to enter into.
Jesus plainly said, “I am the Good Shepherd.” In John 10 He tells us the difference between the Good Shepherd and the hireling. He even says that ALL who came before Him were thieves and robbers. That’s why God sent the Son to Shepherd the flock for Him. No one else is worthy. Apart from Him we are all hirelings. We just love ourselves too much.
In the same way that no one is worthy to open the seal and read the contents of the scroll except for Christ, so no one is worthy to shepherd the flock of God but Christ. The Lord declared that He would tend the flock Himself, and so He has done so and is doing so through the Lord Jesus Christ...

Re: Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS
Hey Elaine,
I'm really excited to resume our online Bible study this week.
The more I study First and Second Corinthians, the more I see that things haven't changed that much in the last 2,000 years.
I mean they had problems and controversies, just like we do today.
Speaking in tongues is one of those controversies - some say it's the devil, some say it's the Holy Spirit.
Huh? That's a big discrepancy, isn't it?
Then there's the role of women in the church - a controversy still alive after two millennia.
This week we'll see what Scripture says, what it means, and how it applies to us today.
