A white powdery substance was delivered to former President Barack Obama’s Washington office in an envelope on Tuesday. Luckily, the Secret Service soon found that the substance was harmless.

Police later confirmed the letter contained baby powder.

This letter comes just after Donald Trump Jr.’s wife was hospitalized from exposure to a powdery substance in a letter on Monday. That substance also turned out to be non-toxic.

It looks like this was another false alarm — but how long until it’s the real deal?

Baby powder sent to Obama’s office
Washington police and fire officials removed what turned out to be baby powder from a letter sent to an office space leased by the former president on Tuesday. Local fire and emergency medical officials responded within minutes to an 11:05 a.m. emergency call about the suspicious substance.

A hazmat team and Secret Service officials were also present. By 1:15 p.m., the scene was cleared.

D.C. Fire and EMS Battalion Chief Edward Smith said that a threatening letter with no return address was sent to the World Wildlife Fund Headquarters in northwest Washington, where Obama leases an office. Despite the threatening message, the substance in the envelope was deemed benign.

“Preliminary investigation determined that the package was not addressed to any Secret Service protectees,” Secret Service spokesman Jeffrey Adams said.

It is not clear if Obama was in the office when the letter was received. The former president and his family live not far from the office, in Washington’s Kalorama neighborhood.

The Secret Service will continue to investigate the incident.

Mysterious threats
This letter came just a day after the president’s daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, was hospitalized in New York after being exposed to a similar powdery substance in a letter addressed to her husband. It was later found that the substance was cornstarch.

The letter that was sent to Donald Trump Jr. alongside the substance read, “You’re an awful person and now you get what you deserve.”

There doesn’t seem to be any connection between the two events, but a spokesman for the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) told Fox’s local Washington affiliate that their Switzerland headquarters was also the recipient of a package containing a benign white substance on Monday.

Perhaps the sender meant to terrorize the WWF instead of the former president, but either way, this is no joke. This seemingly harmless trend could soon turn deadly if not taken seriously.
