Former Vice President Joe Biden, known as “Creepy Uncle Joe” by many for his long history of invading personal space, is also well-known for his verbal gaffes. In fact, in his 8 years as Barack Obama’s vice president there were so many of them that The Daily Beast published them as the “Never Ending List.”

Every once in a while, however, even Joe Biden gets it right. Speaking at the University of Pennsylvania as part of a panel on immigration this week, Biden admitted that “the Trump administration deserves some credit” for defeating the Islamic State, known as ISIS.

Broken Clocks and Whatnot
Proving that the old adage about broken clocks being right twice a day is at least partially correct, Biden begrudgingly offered Trump a smidgen of credit for “finishing the job”:

We know now that in Iraq, we’ve defeated ISIS. The administration, the Trump administration deserves some credit for this because they finished the job.

The former vice president was quick to point out, however, that much work needed to be done in Iraq in order to rebuild the country and prevent what he called “ISIS 2.0” from rising up. According to Biden, this reconstruction effort is necessary because it would decrease the numbers of refugees coming into the western world and the U.S. by “hundreds of thousands.”

Biden’s remarks notably only afforded Trump partial credit, since the left’s narrative is that Obama actually defeated ISIS—or at least, that he set up Trump for success.

Former Obama spokesperson Marie Harf claimed in December 2017 that any Trump success was only due to the Obama administration’s strategy, even going so far as to say that Trump defeating ISIS in the Middle East would only bring them here to the United States.

Immigration Reform Dead Again
While Biden might be willing to admit Trump’s victories, just this once, Democrat lawmakers aren’t willing to budge even an inch on the current immigration policy debate.

This week four separate immigration reform bills died in committee or in debate, as none reached the necessary votes.

One proposal, authored by Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) and Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), included more border security but acquiesced on a path to citizenship for so-called “Dreamers,” or children of illegal immigrants. Democrats, however, refused to entertain the notion of any border security or changes to immigration policy at all, leaving no doubt as to what their goal is.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that Democrats are “not serious about homeland security;” instead they’re being “held hostage by the radical left” and siding with the “extreme fringe” of their party.

The GOP’s next option is another immigration bill authored by Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), which includes funding for a border wall, increased security and “allows DACA beneficiaries to receive a 3-year renewable legal status.” The White House has indicated that it would be in support of this version.

“While radical Schumer Democrats align themselves with the open border fringe, the Trump Administration will continue advocating for the American people. The next step will be for the House to continue advancing the proposal from Chairman Goodlatte and Chairman McCaul,” the White House said.
