Actor James Woods calls out Michelle Obama on ‘forever first lady’ comment

Michelle Obama recently stirred up a furor when she called herself the “forever first lady” during a speech to students. Many reproached the former first lady for so readily embracing this title, while its originators — Obama fanatics — continue to put up a defense. Although most of the justified criticism has come from expected sources, some of it has a surprising origin: Hollywood.
Actor James Woods tweeted that Michelle Obama to “pump her brakes” following her “forever first lady” declaration, pointing out that “no one is, nor should anyone be.”
It isn’t every day that a member of Hollywood says something that makes sense, but, then again, Woods isn’t your average celebrity.
An actor’s admonition
Known for his role in countless movies and television shows, including Salvador, Casino, Contact, and Shark, Woods is one of those mythical creatures known as a conservative actor. Unlike other members of this rare species, Woods isn’t shy about it either, frequently taking to social media to offer his take on the day’s leading stories.
After Michelle Obama referred to herself as the “forever first lady,” Woods posted the following message on Twitter:
James Woods
@RealJamesWoods
With all due respect you aren’t our “forever First Lady.” No one is, nor should anyone be. Pump your brakes a tad.

Being a vocal conservative actor has its consequences. Woods says he was “blacklisted” for not supporting Hillary Clinton.
“Forever first lady”
Woods’ tweet came on the same day that Michelle referred to herself as the “forever first lady.”
That day was this past Wednesday when the former first lady — along with a number of celebrities, including Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, and Rebel Wilson — spoke to a crowd of high school seniors at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Although the event was supposed to be about the students, encouraging them in their pursuit of higher education, Michelle spent most of the time talking about herself.
The theme of her speech was how, throughout her life, she has managed to overcome “doubters.” After speaking about her time as a kid growing up on the south side of Chicago, and about how many, apparently, told her and her husband Barack Obama that they “weren’t supposed to be in the White House,” she stated:
I’m not one of those doubters. I know you have everything it takes to succeed. I know you are me, and if I can be standing here as your forever first lady, then you can do anything you put your mind to…
Cause for criticism
This is the statement that led Woods and countless others to post messages on social media rebuking the former first lady. But her fans were quick to defend Obama.
Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland was one of these individuals, saying that the title is okay because it wasn’t her idea and because everyone knows it’s true. According to Rowland, this is proven by the students’ reaction to her as well as how much everyone loves her.
Of course, what we all really know is that it is not true. In our republican democracy, politicians, from town mayors all the way up to the U.S. president, serve terms: they get to stay in office for a specified period of time before having to face the voters again.
The office of president is even more strict, for regardless of popular opinion one has to take a break after having served two consecutive terms. These rules are in place so that political figures are held accountable to the people, or, in other words, as a prevention against forms of tyranny and despotism.
The Obamas have proven time and again that, like the Clintons, they are power hungry. But as hard as it is for them to accept, their time is up. We have a new president, Donald Trump, along with first lady Melania Trump, who are helping to get this country back on track.

Michelle Obama to students: I’m ‘standing here as your forever first lady’
Fortune Conferences / CCL
It seems that Michelle Obama can’t let go of the past.
Speaking to a crowd of high school students at an event celebrating College Signing Day on Wednesday, Mrs. Obama called herself the “forever first lady.” She must not realize that there’s a new couple in the White House.
“Forever first lady”
The event, which was held at Temple University, signified the day that many rising first year college athletes announce which school they will be attending in the fall. Mrs. Obama shared some words of encouragement with those in attendance, including hundreds of high school students, and celebrities like Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro.
“We need you all to be successful,” Obama said during her keynote address. “Remember this moment when you’re out there. When you hit those roadblocks.”
Not content with just appearing at the event as former first lady, however, Obama also took some time out of her speech to remind everyone that she still sees herself as a rightful occupant of the White House. While her message was encouraging and supportive to students, Obama didn’t shy away from the limelight, either.
“We have such high hopes for you. See, I am not one of those doubters. I know that you have everything it takes to succeed,” Obama reportedly said. “I know you are me, and if I can be standing here as your forever first lady, then you can do anything you put your mind to.” Obama later referred to herself as the “former first lady” — but the damage was already done.
“We weren’t supposed to be in the White House”
Obama also didn’t shy away from speaking about politics at the event. She told the students to expect to struggle in college, recalling the opposition she and her husband faced in 2008 upon entering the White House.
“You’re gonna get to college and you’re gonna struggle sometimes. Because we all struggle,” she said, to much applause. “When Barack and I set foot in the White House, it was a struggle. There were a lot of people who told us we weren’t supposed to be in the White House.”
Do you think Trump is doing a better job than Obama did?

This was not Obama’s first appearance at the annual event; Wednesday marked her fifth time hosting the event since starting the project in 2014. She also spoke at the event in 2017, just months after leaving the White House.
“I might not live in the White House anymore,” she said at last year’s event, “but Barack and I are gonna keep on celebrating you all and supporting you and lifting you up no matter what house we live in.”
“Bitter clingers?”
Barack and Michelle Obama are likely not happy about being replaced by Donald and Melania Trump, seeing that the current president has been busy working to undo his predecessor’s legacy — namely Obamacare. Additionally, while past presidents are typically quiet about their successors, former President Obama has criticized his successor several times — though generally without naming him directly — and has weighed in on issues like Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which Trump scrapped.
While the Obamas were popular with their supporters, many found the former first couple to be snobbish and overtly polarizing. Obama poured gasoline on race relations in the country with his remarks on the shooting of Trayvon Martin and other issues, and on the campaign trail in 2008, he famously referred to conservatives as “bitter clingers” who can’t let go of their guns and their Bibles.
But it looks like the Obamas are the bitter clingers nowadays. Whether they like it or not, there’s a new first lady in the White House — and her name isn’t Michelle.

If you thought Michelle Obama was done patting herself on the back, think again.
Michelle Obama took her hubris to a whole new level when she called herself the “forever First Lady.”
Did She Really Say That?
Yes, you better believe she said it.
Michelle Obama seems to be holding the belief she is the most revered First Lady in history.
Since her husband left office, she has continued to not only attack President Trump, but also promote divisiveness in this country.
In addition, she has belittled conservative women for their beliefs.
Now, does that sound like someone that would be considered our “forever” First Lady?
How It Happened
Mrs. Obama was speaking to a group of high school students in Philadelphia.
They were at Temple University for a 2018 College Signing Day event.
Sadly, when she made the comment, the future generation cheered her loudly.
Oh, the Hypocrisy
Something that makes America different from many other countries in the world is that we are a true Democratic Republic.
Those elected to office are expected to represent those that voted them into place.
Something else that makes this country rather unique is titles are never appointed for life.
Michelle Obama, apparently, believes those guidelines do not apply to her.
