Most Americans were astonished to learn that Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts was killed by an illegal immigrant.
CNN commentator Symone Sanders took the revelation like a slap in the face, however, referring to calls for stronger immigration policy as “racist garbage” and insisting that Tibbetts died because of “toxic masculinity.”
Dazed and Confused
Tibbetts, a Brooklyn, Iowa college student, went missing after going out jogging one evening more than five weeks ago. Accused killer Cristhian Bahena Rivera eventually led law enforcement to a hastily dug grave in a local cornfield where investigators found her body riddled with “sharp force injuries,” or stab wounds.
Rivera admitted to following Tibbetts in his car and chasing her on foot after she became suspicious. When she threatened to call the police, the Mexican national claims that he blacked out and woke up with the bloodied girl in his trunk.
Sanders, who was formerly a spokesperson for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (D) before joining the far-left cable news outlet, refused to make the connection between unusually high rates of domestic abuse, sexual assault and “femicide” in Latin America in a series of tweets on Wednesday. “Mollie Tibbetts lost her life b/c a man couldn’t take her saying no,” Sanders argued.

The problem with Sanders’ theory, grounded as it is in third-wave feminism, is that her “toxic masculinity” argument doesn’t negate the illegal immigration aspect. Deeply entrenched gender inequality is a serious problem in Mexico and many other Latin American countries, where according to UN reports, violence against women is occurring at “epidemic levels.” And those attitudes can be imported by immigrants who refuse to assimilate.
Failure to assimilate
UN studies indicate that as many as one in two women from Latin American countries will become the victims of violence in their lifetimes. While fundamentalist Islamic nations have a deplorable reputation for the treatment of women, Latin America is home to 10 of the top 25 countries with the highest rates of femicide — the killing of women on the basis of gender.
Sanders continued, casting doubts as to Rivera’s immigration status and comparing calls for border enforcement with rounding up white people because of the ethnic identity of many mass shooters.

Her murderer actually might not even be undocumented. Regardless it is problematic for people to characterize an entire community based off the actions of one person. The majority of mass shootings in America are carried out by white men. So are we going to round them all up?...

Sanders isn’t the only progressive to push back on the government’s assertion that Rivera is an illegal immigrant. The alleged killer’s attorney initially said that his client was legally working in America, until reports surfaced that Rivera used a fake name and social security number to secure employment.
Still, the defendant’s lawyer continued to insist that his client came to the U.S. as a child and has worked and paid taxes in America for years — a claim that liberal publications seem to accept in good faith. Yet, for all his supposed time in the States, the 24-year-old accused murderer doesn’t speak English and requires an interpreter in court.
Additionally, Sanders’ mass shooting analogy is “asinine, archaic, and flawed,” or the same descriptive words she used to describe the logic behind immigration enforcement following Tibbetts’ murder. While mass shootings are extremely rare, as many as 29 percent of women are the victims of domestic violence in some Latin American countries.

Next, Sanders turned up the heat, implying that drawing the connection between Tibbetts’ murder and the illegal immigration crisis in America amounts to “racist garbage” and fails to “address the root cause” behind her death. However, she fails to reconcile her views with the fact that the origins of the problem — the male-dominated machismo culture so prevalent in Latin America — cannot be influenced by Americans.
Except, that is, the Americans working for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

The liberal media immediately responded to the news of Rivera’s illegal status by publishing reports suggesting that, “In the US, immigrants are much less likely to commit crimes than their native-born peers.” Vox reporter German Lopez supported this deception by reciting statistics from the legal immigrant community, assuring his readers that data on illegal immigrant crime “frequently isn’t granular enough.”
Take Lopez’s assertions with a grain of salt. The unfortunate truth, dismissed as “racist garbage” by progressives, is that one of the primary reasons that the southern U.S. border requires securing is that an unsecured border does nothing to stop criminals from illegally entering the U.S. and committing crimes here. Criminals like Rivera who, along with his toxic machismo, should have never been here.

CNN host Chris Cuomo wondered Wednesday whether Americans outraged over the death of Mollie Tibbetts would be as upset if the alleged killer was a white American instead of an illegal alien.
In reference to Tibbetts’s death and other murders by illegal aliens, Chris Cuomo asked, “I wonder if these sympathizers would be as full-throated about these tragedies if the killers were white citizens, if the victims were not young white women. If that were the case, would we see a video like this from Trump today?”
He then played a clip of President Donald Trump talking about Tibbetts’s death.
“Mollie Tibbetts was an incredible young woman who was permanently separated from her family,” Trump said in a video posted to his Twitter account Wednesday. “A person came in, from Mexico, illegally, and killed her. We need the wall, we need our immigration laws changed.”
“Permanently separated. It’s as obvious as it is offensive,” Cuomo retorted. “So he cares about Mollie Tibbetts more than people who don’t believe in separating kids from parents? Or treating undocumented immigrants like dogs? Please. What that tells you, that even in this moment, talking about Mollie Tibbetts, he still has to play to political advantage,” Cuomo said.
“And it is proof that he still doesn’t want to own what he did to those kids, and many of them are still waiting to get back with their parents, we have not forgotten. The president still doesn’t think it is wrong, and he thinks grandstanding about Tibbetts gives him high ground, well it does not.”
Cuomo also accused conservative media of having a double standard when covering deaths caused by illegal aliens compared to alleged police brutality cases.
“Nor do the people covering this like some kind of ‘gotcha!’ have high ground. Why? These are the same people that tamp down some police use-of-force cases and say, ‘Those cases are being politicized.’ They mitigate facts, they play the coverage very close to the vest, because ‘We don’t want it to be about politics.'”
The CNN host then compared the outrage over Tibbetts death to conspiracy theories surrounding DNC staffer Seth Rich’s murder.
“Seth Rich–remember him? His death, his murder, all about Democrat deviousness–until it wasn’t. Until the family said, ‘Stop doing this to us. There is no proof of what you’re saying. Go away.’ And once the political intrigue ran out of the story, did you see dogged coverage by the same people about what happened to Seth Rich?”
Of course, that comparison falls apart under basic scrutiny.
As Cuomo correctly notes, Rich’s murder was seized upon by conspiracy theorists who tried to insinuate some Democrat involvement, a theory for which no solid proof exists. But unlike the Seth Rich case, there are no conspiracy theories in the coverage of Tibbetts’ death–illegal alien Cristhian Bahena-Rivera has been arrested and charged by police.
Cuomo’s on-air lectures are now a regular part of his nightly show on CNN. He recently went on a monologue about how violent far-left groups like Antifa “are on the side of right” when fighting against “bigots.”
“The bigots are wrong to hit. Antifa or whomever — anarchists or malcontents or the misguided — they are also wrong to hit. But fighting hate is right. And in a clash between hate and those who oppose it, those who oppose it are on the side of right,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo’s employer CNN continues to struggle finding an audience. Last week, the network suffered a large drop in ratings, losing 23 percent of total primetime average viewers compared to the same week last year. During the day, there was a drop of 24 percent.

It’s not a title any of them seek, but it is one they get when they have lost a child: “Angel” parent. For some, the devastating loss has come at the hands of illegal aliens.
Angel mom Mary Ann Mendoza lost her son, Brandon, who was a police officer, because of a drunk driver. That man, Raul Silva-Corona, was also an illegal alien, reported the U.K. Daily Mail in 2014.
Since the loss of her son, Mendoza has become an outspoken activist, fighting against illegal immigration. After Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) comments regarding the murder of college student Mollie Tibbetts allegedly at the hands of an illegal alien, Mendoza had a few things to say.
According to Fox News Insider, Warren appeared on CNN and stated, “I’m so sorry for the family here. One of the things we have to remember is that we need an immigration system that is effective, that focuses on where real problems are.”

Mendoza appeared on Fox’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” show and laid into Warren and her comments. “I was disgusted by Senator Elizabeth Warren, hearing her speak today. And what I want to say to her is, ‘Stop lying to the American people, because you don’t care what is happening to the victims of illegal alien crime.'”
“Because if you did, you would be standing up for us and you would be doing something about it.” But the Angel Mom was far from finished with the Democrat senator: “We have pleaded with these politicians to do something to protect American citizens, and they are ramping up their protection of illegal alien criminals.”
Mendoza then went on to name some of the victims of illegal aliens and the appalling sentences given to them for their crimes. The Daily Mail wrote that in the case of her own son’s death, the drunk driver, Silva-Coronoa, died in the crash.
However, he had been convicted of other crimes years before in 1994, and if he’d been deported then, her son would not have been hit and killed by him. Mendoza wrote an angry letter to President Obama asking why an illegal alien and convicted criminal had been allowed to remain in the country.

She didn’t stop there. “With the help of a lawyer, she is calling for laws that would prohibit undocumented immigrants from purchasing and registering vehicles without a driver’s license and further legislation that would remove undocumented immigrants who are convicted of a crime.”
Mendoza explained to Tucker Carlson that the whole issue of illegal immigration and ridiculously low sentences for their other crimes “has become political. Because it’s the very politicians who are elected into office who are not doing a dang thing about this, and they’re ignoring the American people crying for help.”
She added, “And they are stepping over dead American bodies on their rush to protect illegal alien criminals.” She finished with empathetic words for the loved ones of Mollie Tibbetts, expressing that she understood their pain.
Carlson told Mendoza he agreed with her and did not think she was overstating the situation at all. One famous example of a sentence perhaps not fitting the crime is found in the case of Katie Steinle. The illegal alien who killed her was given probation.

The left may continue to be flippant in their remarks about Americans killed by illegal aliens. However, one judge has done something about the low sentences they so often get for their crimes.
An Illinois judge gave a confessed beater and rapist of three women the maximum sentence of 80 years in prison. This was due in part to the fact that the man was also an illegal alien who was ordered deported but wasn’t, thereby enabling him to roam free and assault those women.

Mendoza appeared on Fox’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” show and laid into Warren and her comments. “I was disgusted by Senator Elizabeth Warren, hearing her speak today. And what I want to say to her is, ‘Stop lying to the American people, because you don’t care what is happening to the victims of illegal alien crime.'”
“Because if you did, you would be standing up for us and you would be doing something about it.” But the Angel Mom was far from finished with the Democrat senator: “We have pleaded with these politicians to do something to protect American citizens, and they are ramping up their protection of illegal alien criminals.”
Mendoza then went on to name some of the victims of illegal aliens and the appalling sentences given to them for their crimes. The Daily Mail wrote that in the case of her own son’s death, the drunk driver, Silva-Coronoa, died in the crash.
However, he had been convicted of other crimes years before in 1994, and if he’d been deported then, her son would not have been hit and killed by him. Mendoza wrote an angry letter to President Obama asking why an illegal alien and convicted criminal had been allowed to remain in the country.

She didn’t stop there. “With the help of a lawyer, she is calling for laws that would prohibit undocumented immigrants from purchasing and registering vehicles without a driver’s license and further legislation that would remove undocumented immigrants who are convicted of a crime.”
Mendoza explained to Tucker Carlson that the whole issue of illegal immigration and ridiculously low sentences for their other crimes “has become political. Because it’s the very politicians who are elected into office who are not doing a dang thing about this, and they’re ignoring the American people crying for help.”
She added, “And they are stepping over dead American bodies on their rush to protect illegal alien criminals.” She finished with empathetic words for the loved ones of Mollie Tibbetts, expressing that she understood their pain.
Carlson told Mendoza he agreed with her and did not think she was overstating the situation at all. One famous example of a sentence perhaps not fitting the crime is found in the case of Katie Steinle. The illegal alien who killed her was given probation.

The left may continue to be flippant in their remarks about Americans killed by illegal aliens. However, one judge has done something about the low sentences they so often get for their crimes.
An Illinois judge gave a confessed beater and rapist of three women the maximum sentence of 80 years in prison. This was due in part to the fact that the man was also an illegal alien who was ordered deported but wasn’t, thereby enabling him to roam free and assault those women.
