Black Lives Matter reacted to Cubans engaging in pro-freedom demonstrations by praising the communist Cuban regime that oppresses its own people, over a million of whom are black. The Black Lives Matter organization also blamed the United States for the current upswell of unrest in Cuba. BLM was blasted on social media for its official stance on the anti-government protests in Cuba.

On Wednesday night, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation posted its official statement about the mass demonstrations in Cuba where protesters chanted, "Liberty!" and "Freedom!"

"Black Lives Matter condemns the U.S. federal government's inhumane treatment of Cubans, and urges it to immediately lift the economic embargo," the post on Instagram reads.

BLM described the embargo as a "cruel and inhumane policy" that is "at the heart of Cuba's current crisis."

"Since 1962, the United States has forced pain and suffering on the people of Cuba by cutting off food, medicine and supplies, costing the tiny island nation an estimated $130 billion," BLM claimed, when in fact, the U.S. embargo allows the export of agricultural products, food, medicine, medical equipment, and humanitarian goods into Cuba.

"Without that money, it is harder for Cuba to acquire medical equipment needed to develop its own COVID-19 vaccines and equipment for food production," Black Lives Matter proposed.

"The people of Cuba are being punished by the U.S. government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination," BLM argued. "The U.S. government has only instigated suffering for the country's 11 million people – of which 4 million are Black and Brown."

Black Lives Matter praised the authoritarian Cuban regime for protecting "Black revolutionaries like Assata Shakur," who is a convicted cop-killer and was a leader in the Black Liberation Army, "an underground, black nationalist-Marxist militant organization." Shakur, who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster, escaped prison and fled to Cuba, where Fidel Castro granted her asylum.

BLM declared, "Now we look to President Biden to end the embargo, something President Barack Obama called for in 2016. This embargo is a blatant human rights violation and it must come to an end."

Black Lives Matter was bashed on social media for supporting Cuba's authoritarian one-party system, instead of backing Cubans calling for freedom.

Man sentenced to death for killing mother, then frying her organs to eat them

A man in Kolhapur, India, has been convicted and sentenced to die for murdering his mother before frying her organs in order to consume them, the Times of India reported.

The man, 35-year-old Sunil Rama Kuchkoravi, received the sentence last week and now waits to see if the Bombay high court will confirm his execution.

What happened?
According to court documents, in August 2017 a young girl alerted neighbors after finding Sunil with bloodstained hands standing near the disemboweled body of his 63-year-old mother, Yallava.

When police arrived on the scene, they reportedly discovered "the naked dead body of Yallava lying in a pool of blood" with the "liver, intestine, heart, rib, [and] chest" removed. Officers then allegedly followed the blood trail to the kitchen, where they found her heart on a platter along with a piece of her rib soaking in an oil bottle next to chili powder and spices.

Multiple knives covered in blood were also discovered at the scene and were later confirmed to have been used during the horrifying crime.

"After the incident [the] accused intended to eat the heart and rib of his own mother," the court order read, adding that his actions indicate "he had no remorse even after committing murder of his mother."

Prosecutors in the case argued the incident should fall in the category of a "rarest of rare" crime — a classification within the Indian legal system that allows the death penalty to be administered.

"We had sought the death sentence," public prosecutor Vivek Shukla told reporters. "There are precedents in 'rarest of rare' cases when [death by hanging] is given. He murdered his own mother and desecrated the body in a way no one would imagine."

The sessions court agreed with the classification and so the suggested penalty will be carried out, pending a review.

What else?
A police inspector who investigated the case, S.S. More, described it as the most gruesome murder he had ever experienced in all his years in law enforcement.

"I have seen many murders and dead bodies in my career in Mumbai and in the Naxalite areas of the state. This was the most cruel," he said. "We carried out stomach-wash, hand-wash, and foot-wash, and the samples were sent for DNA profiling. All samples matched with the deceased. We had 12 eyewitnesses on our side. Also, the scene at the murder site and the condition of [the] deceased body were sufficient to prove the cruelty of the accused."

Sessions judges added that gruesome crime had shaken the "collective conscience" of the local community.

Newly surfaced emails show connections among a U.S. health agency headed by Dr. Anthony Fauci, EcoHealth Alliance, and Chinese scientists. The recently exposed documents also show that researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were scrambling to find disinfectant and asked a National Institutes of Health official for help.

Judicial Watch obtained 301 pages of emails and other records from National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases officials who had connections with the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. According to the documents that were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by Judicial Watch, the NIAID gave at least nine grants to EcoHealth Alliance, a U.S. nonprofit organization focused on finding unknown viruses and infectious diseases in nature. EcoHealth Alliance reportedly used those NIAID grants to work with Chinese scientists on research such as probing the emergence of a bat coronavirus — years before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Judicial Watch lists the nine grants to EcoHealth Alliance from the NIAID, where Dr. Fauci has been the director since 1984:

One grant awarded each year between 2010 and 2012 to EcoHealth Alliance, working with Chinese collaborator Jinping Chen of Guangdong Entomological Institute, to study in China "Risk of Viral Emergence from Bats."
One grant awarded each year from 2014 to 2017 to EcoHealth Alliance, working with Chinese collaborator Changwen Ke of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of Guangdong, in a project titled "Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence."
A grant was issued in 2012 to EcoHealth Alliance, working with Xiangming Xiao of the East China Normal University, in a project titled "Comparative Spillover Dynamics of Avian Influenza in Endemic Countries."
A grant was issued in 2018 to EcoHealth Alliance, again working with Ke in the project called "Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence."
The recently emerged emails also show that scientists at China's Wuhan lab were scrambling to find disinfectant for equipment, including positive pressure personnel suits.

The physical facilities of the Wuhan Institute of Virology were completed in January 2015, which made it China's first biosafety level 4 laboratory. BSL-4 laboratories are "used to study infectious agents or toxins that pose a high risk of aerosol-transmitted laboratory infections and life-threatening disease for which no vaccines or therapies are available," according to the U.S. Health and Human Services.

"Laboratory personnel are required to wear full-body, air-supplied suits, which are the most sophisticated type of PPE," the HHS states of BSL-4 labs. "All personnel shower before exiting the laboratory and go through a series of procedures designed to fully decontaminate them before leaving."

The emails from 2016 that were recovered by the FOIA request show a conversation where Wuhan Institute of Virology vice director Yuan Zhiming asked National Institutes of Health virologist Jens Kuhn for help getting disinfectant for the equipment in China's potentially dangerous BSL-4 lab.

"I am writing to you to ask your help," Zhiming wrote. "Our laboratory is under operation without pathogens, and we are now looking for the disinfectants for decontamination of airtight suits and surface decontamination indoor decontamination."

"We have tried several ones do [sic] determine their antiviral efficacy and corrosion to pipeline and wastewater treatment equipment," he continued. "Unfortunately, we have found a good candidate. I hope you can give us some help, to give us some suggestion for the choice of disinfectants used in P4 laboratory."

Zhiming allegedly asks what kinds of disinfectants are effective for decontamination of airtight protective clothes, doors, the laboratory, infectious materials, and air decontamination.

Zhiming concluded the email, "Best regards and looking forward to seeing you in Wuhan." In a later email, Kuhn said he "personally" met Zhiming "in Wuhan twice."

After news of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, Zhiming purportedly wrote to Kuhn on March 20, 2020:

The 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak is a major challenge for global public health security. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 has been associated with serious acute respiratory distress syndrome with large number of patients' hospitalization and relatively high mortality. We had a very hard time in combating the infection in Wuhan, the epicenter of the COVID-19 in China, and now we can see the situation goes in good direction, with no reported confirmed case, no reported suspected case in last two days here.

My colleagues and I, have been working on characterization of pathogens, antiviral screen, vaccine development, animal modeling since the early January this year, and some progresses have been made. I hope our understanding of the virus and the technology could be valuable in the global fighting to the virus.
There is also a February 2018 email from Dr. Ping Chen, the NIAID representative in China, discussing a "type of new flu vaccine using nano-technology from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology."

Judicial Watch added that "the Chinese had blocked all Internet links to reports on the new technology." This development allegedly prompted Chen to write a "night note" to U.S. government officials, which said, "The intranasal nano-vaccine can target broad-spectrum flu viruses and induces robust immune responses."

In a January 2017 report to NIH colleagues, Chen mentioned the "Global Virome Project," which described its mission as: "Stimulate the development of an innovative network of public, private, philanthropic, and civil organizations to detect the majority of our planet's unknown viral threats to human health and food security to prepare for and stop future epidemics."

Chen described the Global Virome Project and showed a link to Peter Daszak, the president of EcoHealth Alliance:

The purpose of the project is to identify viruses present in the wildlife with potential crossing over to humans, causing human infection and disease. Following the identification of the viruses is the development of vaccines to protect human population… One of the partners in this project is EcoHealth Alliance. Peter Daszak from EcoHealth Alliance is one of the leaders for the GVP project and he has NIAID grant from RDB looking at the coronaviruses in Bat populations in China in collaboration with Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Former President Donald Trump issued a scathing rebuke of Big Tech in an op-ed published Thursday in the Wall Street Journal, detailing why he is suing Big Tech giants and how he believes certain corporations are complicit in squashing the speech and diverse ideas of everyday American people.

Liberal social media quickly went into a frenzy over the paper's decision to allow the former president to write a piece for its pages.

What are the details?
In his article "Why I'm Suing Big Tech," Trump explained that he believes Big Tech is working in tandem with the government to "censor the free speech of the American people."

"One of the gravest threats to our democracy today is a powerful group of Big Tech corporations that have teamed up with the government to censor the free speech of the American people," he wrote.

Pointing out that the very idea is not just wrong, but unconstitutional, the former president vowed, "To restore free speech for myself and for every American, I am suing Big Tech to stop it.

"Social media has become as central to free speech as town meeting halls, newspapers, and television networks were in prior generations," he continued. "The internet is the new public square."

Trump added that in recent years Big Tech platforms have been censoring Americans and discriminating against free speech by de-platforming, suspensions, and more, "controlling the political debate" in America.

"Consider content that was censored in the past year," he wrote. "Big Tech companies banned users from their platforms for publishing evidence that showed the coronavirus emerged from a Chinese lab, which even the corporate media now admits may be true."

He also pointed to Big Tech's censorship on hydroxychloroquine treatment for COVID-19 cases as well as how the mainstream media and social media networks appeared to quash reports about the laptop controversy surrounding President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, and more.

"Perhaps most egregious, in the weeks after the election, Big Tech blocked the social media accounts of the sitting president," Trump continued. "If they can do it to me, they can do it to you — and believe me, they are."

Pointing to his recent class-action lawsuit against Big Tech giants such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Trump added, "This flagrant attack on free speech is doing terrible damage to our country."

"The suit seeks damages to deter such behavior in the future and injunctions restoring my accounts.," he added.

In a Wednesday statement announcing the suit, the former president said, "I stand before you this morning to announce a very important and very beautiful, I think, development for our freedom and our freedom of speech. ... Today, in conjunction with the America First Policy Institute, I'm filing as the lead class action representative a major class action lawsuit against the Big Tech giants including Facebook, Google and Twitter, as well as their CEOs."

The lawsuit is seeking an immediate injunction to stop social media platforms from what he says is the "illegal, shameful censorship of the American people."

"Our case will prove this censorship is unlawful, it's unconstitutional, and it's completely un-American," Trump added.

Trump, concluding the op-ed, warned that Democrats are coordinating with Big Tech to suppress any nonconformist thought from social media platforms.

"This coercion and coordination is unconstitutional," he insisted. "The Supreme Court has held that Congress can't use private actors to achieve what the Constitution prohibits it from doing itself. In effect, Big Tech has been illegally deputized as the censorship arm of the U.S. government. This should alarm you no matter your political persuasion. It is unacceptable, unlawful and un-American."

What are people saying?
One user complained, "Trump screams 'I AM BEING CENSORED!' from the editorial page of a mainstream international media outlet. Shame on you, @WSJ, shame on you, @WSJopinion."

Another added, "It's not the biggest takeaway from Trump's op-ed (the biggest has to do with what WSJ opinion has become) but it was still perplexing to me that Trump's use of 'illegal alien' wasn't changed by an editor. AP stopped using the term in 2013, and many pubs have since followed suit."

"WSJ must know the case has no merit and is being used as a fundraising tool. You have some duty to your readers don't you? Maybe some duty to yourselves? Some code of ethics?" another fumed.

"And again, reminding me why I canceled my WSJ subscription," one user quipped.

Another took aim at the paper for not being "serious" or thoughtful."

"Future generations will marvel when we tell them the Wall Street Journal was once considered a serious, thoughtful newspaper," the user wrote.

Another snarked, "*NOTE* @WSJopinion is not @WSJ, rather more similar to right-wing propagandists such as @seanhannity and @OANN."

Disgraced critic of former President Donald Trump and onetime Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Avenatti was sentenced on Thursday to 30 months, or two and a half years, in prison for trying to extort tens of millions of dollars from Nike, Inc. two years ago.

What are the details?
The final sentencing was well below the maximum sentence that Avenatti could have received, which was nine years.
While reading the sentencing, Judge Paul Gardephe of the Southern District of New York said, "Mr. Avenatti had become drunk on the power of his platform. Or what he perceived the power of his platform to be. He had become someone who operated as if the laws and rules that apply to everyone else did not apply to him."
Avenatti reportedly cried in the courtroom during his concluding speech prior to sentencing.
The ex-lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels was indicted on wire fraud and extortion charges for attempting to shake down Nike for approximately $20 million by threatening to go public with damaging information about the company.
Shortly before charges were announced in March 2019, Avenatti posted a tweet warning that he would be holding a news conference to expose "criminal conduct [that] reaches the highest levels of Nike and involves some of the biggest names in college basketball."

Additionally, the FBI recorded Avenatti in March 2019 making similar claims in a call with Nike's lawyers.

"I'm not f***ing around with this, and I'm not continuing to play games," he said, according to court documents, adding, "I'll go take $10 billion off your client's market cap."

"While the defendant may have tried to hide behind legal terms and a suit and tie, the jury clearly saw the defendant's scheme for what it was — an old-fashioned shakedown," U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said in a statement following Avenatti's guilty verdict in February 2020.

What else?
Avenatti quickly rose to national fame in 2018 for his high-handed representation of Stormy Daniels — real name Stephanie Clifford — a porn star who claims to have had a relationship with former President Trump.

Daniels alleged in a lawsuit that she had been paid $130,000 in hush money by ex-Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen ahead of Trump's 2016 presidential election victory.

Before long, Avenatti became a left-wing media darling and a regular fixture on networks such as CNN and MSNBC.

According to the Media Research Center, between March 2018 and March 2019, Avenatti appeared on CNN 122 times, on MSNBC 108 times, and on broadcast news networks like ABC, CBS, and NBC a combined 24 times.

What's next?
Thursday's sentencing marks the conclusion of one of three criminal trials that the 50-year-old California lawyer is set to undergo.

CNBC reported that next week Avenatti will stand trial on a litany of charges alleging the lawyer defrauded several of his clients — one being a mentally ill paraplegic — out of millions of dollars.

Then, in 2022, Avenatti will be tried a third time on charges related to allegedly cheating Stormy Daniels out of $300,000 she earned in proceeds from a book she wrote.

Daniels, who later fired Avenatti, posted on her Instagram following the lawyer's conviction, saying, "Sadly, it appears that what Michael Avenatti did to me was just the tip of the iceberg of deceit. I am not surprised his dishonesty has been revealed on a grand scale."

The ex-lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels was indicted on wire fraud and extortion charges for attempting to shake down Nike for approximately $20 million by threatening to go public with damaging information about the company.

Shortly before charges were announced in March 2019, Avenatti posted a tweet warning that he would be holding a news conference to expose "criminal conduct [that] reaches the highest levels of Nike and involves some of the biggest names in college basketball."

Additionally, the FBI recorded Avenatti in March 2019 making similar claims in a call with Nike's lawyers.

"I'm not f***ing around with this, and I'm not continuing to play games," he said, according to court documents, adding, "I'll go take $10 billion off your client's market cap."

"While the defendant may have tried to hide behind legal terms and a suit and tie, the jury clearly saw the defendant's scheme for what it was — an old-fashioned shakedown," U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said in a statement following Avenatti's guilty verdict in February 2020.

What else?
Avenatti quickly rose to national fame in 2018 for his high-handed representation of Stormy Daniels — real name Stephanie Clifford — a porn star who claims to have had a relationship with former President Trump.

Daniels alleged in a lawsuit that she had been paid $130,000 in hush money by ex-Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen ahead of Trump's 2016 presidential election victory.

Before long, Avenatti became a left-wing media darling and a regular fixture on networks such as CNN and MSNBC.

According to the Media Research Center, between March 2018 and March 2019, Avenatti appeared on CNN 122 times, on MSNBC 108 times, and on broadcast news networks like ABC, CBS, and NBC a combined 24 times.

What's next?
Thursday's sentencing marks the conclusion of one of three criminal trials that the 50-year-old California lawyer is set to undergo.

CNBC reported that next week Avenatti will stand trial on a litany of charges alleging the lawyer defrauded several of his clients — one being a mentally ill paraplegic — out of millions of dollars.

Then, in 2022, Avenatti will be tried a third time on charges related to allegedly cheating Stormy Daniels out of $300,000 she earned in proceeds from a book she wrote.

Daniels, who later fired Avenatti, posted on her Instagram following the lawyer's conviction, saying, "Sadly, it appears that what Michael Avenatti did to me was just the tip of the iceberg of deceit. I am not surprised his dishonesty has been revealed on a grand scale."

After Facebook's Oversight Board criticized the company for imposing an arbitrary punishment on Trump, the company clarified that Trump will remain deplatformed through Jan. 7, 2023, at least. Trump's YouTube channel remains indefinitely suspended until there is no longer a "risk of incitement to violence."

"There is no better evidence that Big Tech is out of control than the fact that they banned the sitting president of the United States earlier this year," Trump told the gathered reporters. "If they can do it to me, they can do it to anyone."

First reported by Axios, Trump's lawsuit will also seek the immediate restoration of his social media accounts and "punitive damages" on the Big Tech giants.

The lawsuits also target the liability protections Big Tech companies enjoy under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

"While the social media companies are officially private entities, in recent years they have ceased to be private with the enactment and their historical use of Section 230, which profoundly protects them from liability," Trump said. "It is in effect a massive government subsidy, these companies have been co-opted, coerced and weaponized by government actors to become the enforcers of illegal, unconstitutional censorship."

The former president accused social media companies of coordinating with federal public health officials during the pandemic to censor certain speech. Trump pointed to policies that banned users for sharing "misinformation" about COVID-19, such as opinions that raised questions about the origins of the virus and whether it was leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Billy Cosby's 2019 sexual assault conviction Wednesday and ordered the actor-comedian to be released from prison, the Associated Press reported Wednesday afternoon.

The court took the added step of barring future prosecutions on the charges, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.

Cosby, 83, has served more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence for his conviction on charges that he drugged and sexually molested Andrea Constand in 2004.

The case began in 2005 after Constand went to then-Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor with her allegations. Castor ultimately declined to file charges against Cosby in the case and reached an agreement with the comedian not to prosecute, the court noted.

Castor's stuck a deal with Cosby's lawyers that he would not prosecute on Constand's assault charges if Cosby set for a deposition in a civil case Constand had filed against him.

Years later, the court said, Castor's successors "did not feel bound by his decision, and decided to prosecute Cosby notwithstanding that prior undertaking."

Prosecutors used parts of the testimony from the Constand's civil case against Cosby in the criminal trial. In fact, Cosby wasn't charged until after a prosecutor in 2015 got ahold of Cosby's newly unsealed "damaging" testimony from the civil case, the Inquirer reported.

From the court's decision:

In 2005, Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor learned that Andrea Constand had reported that William Cosby had sexually assaulted her in 2004 at his Cheltenham residence. Along with his top deputy prosecutor and experienced detectives, District Attorney Castor thoroughly investigated Constand's claim. In evaluating the likelihood of a successful prosecution of Cosby, the district attorney foresaw difficulties with Constand's credibility as a witness based, in part, upon her decision not to file a complaint promptly. D.A. Castor further determined that a prosecution would be frustrated because there was no corroborating forensic evidence and because testimony from other potential claimants against Cosby likely was inadmissible under governing laws of evidence. The collective weight of these considerations led D.A. Castor to conclude that, unless Cosby confessed, "there was insufficient credible and admissible evidence upon which any charge against Mr. Cosby related to the Constand incident could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."

Seeking "some measure of justice" for Constand, D.A. Castor decided that the Commonwealth would decline to prosecute Cosby for the incident involving Constand, thereby allowing Cosby to be forced to testify in a subsequent civil action, under penalty of perjury, without the benefit of his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination. Unable to invoke any right not to testify in the civil proceedings, Cosby relied upon the district attorney's declination and proceeded to provide four sworn depositions. During those depositions, Cosby made several incriminating statements.

D.A. Castor's successors did not feel bound by his decision, and decided to prosecute Cosby notwithstanding that prior undertaking. The fruits of Cosby's reliance upon D.A. Castor's decision — Cosby's sworn inculpatory testimony — were then used by D.A. Castor's successors against Cosby at Cosby's criminal trial. We granted allowance of appeal to determine whether D.A. Castor's decision not to prosecute Cosby in exchange for his testimony must be enforced against the Commonwealth.
Castor, the Inquirer said, objected to the new prosecution, citing his agreement with Cosby to not prosecute.

"Recalling his thought process at the time, the former district attorney further emphasized that it was 'absolutely' his intent to remove 'for all time' the possibility of prosecution," the court said, "because 'the ability to take the Fifth Amendment [in the civil case] is also for all time removed.'"

The state Supreme Court sided with Cosby, ruling that his agreement with Castor should have kept him from being charged in the case.

Chinese scientists deleted key data that could help identify origins of COVID-19, study claims
Chinese researchers appear to have deleted important data from a global database operated by the National Institutes of Health that could provide key insights into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, a preprint study claims. An American scientist recovered the deleted data from cloud storage and and published his analysis Tuesday. The paper, "Recovery of deleted deep sequencing data sheds more light on the early Wuhan SARS-CoV-2 epidemic," suggests that early virus samples from the Wuhan seafood market that until now have been the focus of most studies on the origins of the pandemic "are not fully representative of the viruses actually present in Wuhan at that time."

The paper is not yet peer-reviewed, and its findings should not yet be considered conclusive. The recovered virus samples do not support either the "lab leak" hypothesis or the "natural origins" hypothesis of the origins of SARS-CoV-2, according to scientists who have examined the paper. But these scientists say it does suggest the virus was spreading in Wuhan earlier than the Chinese government claimed, and the paper's author, Dr. Jesse Bloom, says his findings should reinforce skepticism that China has fully shared all relevant data on COVID-19.

Bloom, an influenza virus expert at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, also says his study should be a cause for hope that scientists can recover additional information about the early spread of SARS-CoV-2 without an international investigation.

In the course of his research into SARS-CoV-2, Bloom read a paper that analyzed data from a project by Wuhan University that sequenced 45 positive coronavirus cases from January and early February 2020. The Chinese study, which developed an improved technique to test for and diagnose COVID-19 cases, was peer-reviewed and published in June 2020.

The SARS-CoV-2 sequences obtained by the Chinese researchers were uploaded to the NIH's Sequence Read Archive (SRA), a database for storing what are essentially maps of how viruses are built. These sequences can help scientists study how a virus originated and evolved over time, and such study may lead to knowledge that can prevent the next pandemic.

But when Bloom went to the SRA to examine the Chinese sequences, he found the data had been deleted. He explained in his paper that the SRA "is designed as a permanent archive of deep sequencing data." The only circumstances under which data can be removed is if the original researchers make an email request to have it deleted, provide reasons for doing so, and have that request approved by SRA staff.

A spokesperson for the NIH told the Telegraph that the NIH had "reviewed the submitting investigator's request to withdraw the data" in June 2020 and subsequently removed it.

"The requestor indicated the sequence information had been updated, was being submitted to another database, and wanted the data removed from SRA to avoid version control issues," the spokesperson said. "Submitting investigators hold the rights to their data and can request withdrawal of the data."

Bloom attempted to contact the Wuhan University researchers asking why they requested the data be deleted but did not receive a response. He noted in his paper that "there is no plausible scientific reason for the deletion" and suggested "it therefore seems likely the sequences were deleted to obscure their existence."

Fortunately, he was able to recover some of the data from the Google Cloud, obtaining 34 early positive COVID-19 samples, and he was able to reconstruct partial viral sequences from 13 of them.

In a Twitter thread about his paper, Bloom explained why these sequences are crucial for understanding the origins of the virus.

"Although events that led to emergence of #SARSCoV2 in Wuhan are unclear (zoonosis vs lab accident), everyone agrees deep ancestors are coronaviruses from bats," Bloom said.

"Therefore, we'd expect the first #SARSCoV2 sequences would be more similar to bat coronaviruses, and as #SARSCoV2 continued to evolve it would become more divergent from these ancestors. But that is *not* the case!" he continued.

"Instead, early Huanan Seafood Market #SARSCoV2 viruses are more different from bat coronaviruses than #SARSCoV2 viruses collected later in China and even other countries."



These findings suggest that the first virus samples from Huanan Seafood Market, originally suspected by scientists to be the source of viral outbreak, were not the earliest evolutions of the virus. That would mean SARS-CoV-2 was circulating before China reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case on Dec. 8, 2019, and did not necessarily originate in the wet market.
Reacting to this new information, University of California, Berkeley, Professor Rasmus Neilsen, a genomics expert, said the findings "are the most important data that we have received regarding the origins of Covid-19 for more than a year."

Bloom said his work has several important implications.

"First, [the] fact this dataset was deleted should make us skeptical that all other relevant early Wuhan sequences have been shared," he tweeted, noting that China ordered many labs to destroy early samples of the virus.

"Sequence sharing could be further limited by fact that scientists in China are under an order from the State Council requiring central approval of all publications," he added.


The second major implication of this work is that "it may be possible to obtain additional information about early spread of #SARSCoV2 in Wuhan even if efforts for more on-the-ground investigations are stymied."
Bloom explained in his paper that "it should be immediately possible for the NIH to determine the date and purported reason for deletion of the data set analyzed here, since the only way sequences can be deleted from the SRA is by an e-mail request to SRA staff." He also suggested that SRA email records should be reviewed to determine if there were any more requests to delete early SARS-CoV-2 sequences from the database.

"Importantly, SRA deletions do not imply any malfeasance: there are legitimate reasons for removing sequencing runs, and the SRA houses >13-million runs making it infeasible for its staff to validate the rationale for all requests," Bloom said. "However, the current study suggests that at least in one case, the trusting structures of science have been abused to obscure sequences relevant to the early spread ofSARS-CoV-2 in Wuhan.

"A careful re-evaluation of other archived forms of scientific communication, reporting, and data could shed additional light on the early emergence of the virus."

Alameda County, a Northern California county that includes the city of Oakland, has revised its COVID-19 data methodology, resulting in a massive 25% decrease in its reported COVID-19 deaths.

What are the details?
The COVID-19 death toll in Alameda County decreased from 1,634 to 1,223 on Friday after officials updated their methodology for COVID-19 reporting, now only including people who directly died from COVID-19 in their count.

Previously, Alameda County officials included in their death toll any resident who died while infected the virus — not just those individuals who died directly from COVID-19.

The Los Angeles Times now includes the following note on its Alameda County data, "Alameda County on Friday reduced its total count of deaths by 411. The county previously reported deaths of any person infected with the virus. The updated total includes only deaths in which COVID-19 was a direct or contributing cause, or if COVID-19 could not be ruled out as a cause."


Neetu Balram, a spokesperson for the Alameda County Public Health Department, said the 411 people removed from the county's COVID-19 death toll died from causes "clearly not caused by COVID," the Oaklandside reported.

Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert and senior scholar at Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, told The Oaklandside that although some adjustments are to be expected, 25% "seems high." Adalja said he has never seen this big of an adjustment in a death count with other infectious diseases.
In a press release, Balram said Alameda County's definition of a COVID-19 death lagged behind the state's official definition, which explains the sudden change.

"Alameda County previously included any person who died while infected with the virus in the total COVID-19 deaths for the County," the press release explained. "Aligning with the State's definition will require Alameda County to report as COVID-19 deaths only those people who died as a direct result of COVID-19, with COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death, or in whom death caused by COVID-19 could not be ruled out."

In total, more than 67,000 people have died from COVID-19 in California.

It sounds like a far-fetched idea, but the former president appeared to express interest in starting his political comeback in the U.S. House during an interview with radio host Wayne Allyn Root on Friday afternoon. Root pitched Trump on the idea of running for a U.S. House seat from Florida next year and then seeking to become House Speaker should Republicans win the majority in the 2022 midterm elections.

POLL: What scares you the most?
From that position, Root said, Trump could "wipe" Biden out as the Republican leader and then run for president again in 2024.

"Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I'm hoping you'll run in 2024, but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? A House seat in Florida. Win big. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the House by 50 seats," he told Trump.

"Then you become the Speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden. You'll wipe him out for this last two years," continued the radio host.
Trump appeared to like what he was hearing.
"That's so interesting," the former president said. "You know, It's very interesting."

He added that other people have suggest he run for Senate, "but you know what, your idea might be better."

Root isn't the first person to float the idea of Trump running for Congress. Back in February, 2016 Trump campaign strategist Steve Bannon told a group of Republicans in Boston that Trump should unseat Speaker Pelosi and launch an impeachment investigation against Biden.

"We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as Speaker [of the House] will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency," Bannon said.

The plan would require several events to break in Trump's favor. First, he'd have to find a House district in Florida where he could win the Republican primary (not difficult) and go on to victory in the general election (more difficult, depending on the district). Then, Republicans would have to win control of the House and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) would need to be willing to step aside to make way for Trump as Speaker.

But a leading Republican like McCarthy putting aside his own ambitions to avoid crossing Trump wouldn't exactly be surprising. Trump's impending decisions on his political future have frozen most of the Republican candidates who want to run for president in 2024 but do not want to challenge Trump in a primary. Since losing the White House to President Joe Biden, Trump has dropped several hints about his intention to run again but has made no firm commitments to doing so.

The former president's political ambitions remain complicated, however, by a criminal investigation into his business dealings led by New York prosecutors. A special grand jury was convened at the end of May to consider evidence and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. is widely expected to seek criminal charges against Trump.

Trump has slammed the probe as "purely political" and by all indications he has no intention of letting it interrupt his plans. He will speak at the North Carolina GOP convention on Saturday, rallying Republicans in the swing state ahead of a crucial Senate election next year. Later this summer the former president's campaign-style rallies are expected to resume as he travels the nation in support of various Republican candidates.

Is Trump seriously considering a run for U.S. House? It's impossible to know for sure. But the media interest in his comments on Root's radio show demonstrates how everyone is waiting to see what Donald Trump will do next.

Senior Trump aide Jason Miller put it this way: "I don't think anyone is having more fun right now than President Donald J. Trump."

Biden officials shut down Trump-era investigation to determine if COVID-19 leaked from Wuhan bio lab

President Joe Biden's administration reportedly shut down a State Department investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic that was started last year by the Trump administration under then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's leadership.
News of the Biden administration's actions are significant because the theory that COVID-19 leake from the Wuhan Institute of Virology — which the media once denounced as a conspiracy theory — has gained considerable traction in recent weeks, not that evidence existed previously showing the theory was not a viable possibility.

According to CNN, which broke the news late Tuesday, the Biden administration terminated a "closely-held" investigation initiated by

Former FBI director reportedly gave $100K to Biden grandchildren's trust, emailed Hunter that he'd like to work 'with you and dad'
Former FBI Director Louis Freeh gave $100,000 to a trust for the grandchildren of President Joe Biden, according to newly surfaced emails. The financial contribution to Biden's family allegedly happened in 2016, when Biden was vice president. The ex FBI director reportedly sent emails to Hunter Biden expressing that Freeh would like to work "with you and dad."
What did the new Hunter Biden emails say?
Freeh said he made a $100,000 donation to a private trust for two of Joe Biden's grandchildren, according to emails leaked from Hunter Biden's laptop that were published by the Daily Mail on Thursday night.
"As you know, our family foundation made a $100K contribution to Hallie's children's trust last year," Freeh allegedly wrote to Hunter on April 24, 2017. "My accountants (PWC) now advise that since the grant did not go to a 501(c) organization [a charity], it was not a proper foundation gift. So we've been in touch with the IRS and PWC and want to correct the situation as follows: I'll make a new $100k gift to Haley's trust, and Hallie's trust will reimburse the foundation by paying it $100k. Sorry for the extra burden. Best regards and warm regards to Hallie, Dad and Mom."
The generous "gift" was sent to the two children of Hallie Biden, the widow of Joe's late son Beau, who later became Hunter's lover.
"Thanks so much and of course no burden at all. Speak to you soon," Hunter Biden responded.
The Daily Mail published several communications between Freeh and Hunter dating back to mid-2016.

On July 8, 2016, Freeh allegedly emailed Hunter Biden in an email marked "confidential and privileged," which said the former FBI director told the then-vice president's son that he "would be delighted to do future work with you."

"I also spoke to Dad a few weeks ago and would like to explore with him some future work options," Freeh reportedly wrote. "I believe that working together on these (and other legal) matters would be of value, fun and rewarding."

"Have a great weekend and our love to Mom and Dad," Freeh allegedly signed off.

Freeh reportedly copied Hunter on an email sent July 21, 2016, in which the ex-FBI director discussed one of his clients, Beny Steinmetz.

Hunter replied on Aug. 24, 2016, to see if there was anything he could do to help.

Freeh reportedly replied, "I would like to talk with you and Dad about working together next year. No doubt both he and you have many options and probably some which are more attractive than my small shop," an apparent nod to his consultancy firm.

"As you know, we have both a law firm and 'solutions/investigations' group with a very good brand, DC and DEL (and NYC) offices, and a profitable and interesting global practice (eg., I'm currently representing the Malaysian PM and his family)," Freeh allegedly boasted. "So if it's something which interests you both, let's talk about it at some point. I'm very flexible and we could set it up as an equity-share or whatever works best. It would certainly be an honor to work with you both."

On March 12, 2017, Freeh allegedly sent an email to Hunter requesting his father's contact information.

"I say [saw] Dad in St Joe's and the 900a today and he said hi walking back from communion–I didn't get the chance to return greetings," Freeh purportedly said. "If you have his cell and a personal email, I'd like to have his contacts (will protect). I would still like to persuade him to associate with me and FSS —as we have some very good and profitable matters which he could enhance with minimal time."

The initials FSS are most likely a reference to the law firm of Freeh, Sporkin & Sullivan, where Freeh was a partner at the time along with Stanley Sporkin, who was previously the general counsel to the Central Intelligence Agency and chief enforcement officer at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

"Hunter replied with Joe's personal cell, and an email address for Kathy Chung, a staffer from Biden's vice presidential office who he kept on after leaving the White House," the Daily Mail reported.

Who is Louis Freeh?
Freeh is a former federal judge and served as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Presidents Bill Clinton and Geroge W. Bush.

At the time of the emails, Freeh ran a consulting firm, which represented three wealthy individuals who were all later convicted on corruption charges.

Beny Steinmetz, an Israeli diamond and minerals magnate, was convicted last January of corrupting foreign agents and forging documents by a Geneva court. The billionaire, who was once named the richest person in Israel, was sentenced to five years in prison for allegedly bribing officials to control mines in Africa. Steinmetz is appealing the case.

Romanian real estate tycoon Gabriel Popoviciu, who was accused of fraud and corruption, was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2017.

Ex-Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak was sentenced to 12 years in jail after he was found guilty on all seven counts in the first of several multimillion-dollar corruption trials, according to the BBC.
Freeh served on the board of the Beau Biden Foundation, a Delaware-based charity to help prevent child abuse. In a 2014 press release, Freeh labeled Joe Biden and Beau Biden as "dear friends."

Heavily armed leftists apparently acting as security for a march in Portland earlier this week pointed their guns at a lone motorist and threatened him before the fed-up driver exited his truck and pointed his own gun at them — and then all hell broke loose.

Video showed a large group of leftist militants marching down a Portland street Wednesday reportedly to remember Patrick Kimmons, a black man fatally shot by Portland police in 2018.

But a vehicle apparently leading the group came upon a pickup truck driver who was traveling toward the marchers, and the lead vehicle blocked the driver's path — and in seconds, numerous militants descended upon the pickup truck driver and began threatening him.

Thing is, though, the driver had a gun, too — and the heavily armed militants didn't like that one bit.

"You better f***ing not!" one leftist was heard yelling at the driver. "Put your f***ing gun down!"

The driver, standing behind his truck door, pointed at one particularly well-strapped leftist and twice yelled back, "You got about five seconds to lower that f***ing weapon!"

The lone driver — who faced about a half dozen armed leftists in the standoff — jawed with the hostile group, calling them "c**ksuckers" and "f***in' idiots" and repeatedly ordering them to "shut up."

One leftist told the driver that his "vehicle is a deadly weapon" — which didn't go over too well with the driver who noted all the rifles pointed in his direction.

As the driver got back into this truck and began to move past the militants, one leftist called him a "f***ing Nazi" as others demanded he "get outta here!" Then just before he reached the intersection — apparently after one of the leftists hit or threw something at his truck — the driver stopped, got out, and confronted the group.

The situation grew tense, with many people screaming, and the driver grabbed his gun and moved forward on one of the rifle-wielding leftists —

— who promptly shoved the driver backward.

With that, the driver regained his footing and drew his gun on the group.

But he was tackled from behind after which numerous militants piled on him.

Soon the driver was requesting an ambulance, asking for his gun back, and telling the leftists that he's a disabled Marine.

While Oregon is an open-carry state, gun owners cannot do so in Portland unless they are concealed carry license holders and their guns are not loaded.

But wait! There was more fun!
If you thought that was enough left-wing lawlessness for one day, there's video of the same armed group attacking a different vehicle whose driver didn't obey their orders and moved through and past their blockade.

As you can imagine, the militants didn't like that too much — and apparently broke the red SUV's windows and punctured at least two of its tires while managing to get the driver to stop.

"You f***ed with the wrong f***in' people, bro!" one particularly erudite leftist hollered at the motorist.

The militants claimed one of their comrades was hit by the SUV and continued to threaten the driver. Eventually the apparently injured motorist exited the vehicle as one of the militants said on camera they were giving medical aid to him.

What did police have to say?
Portland police said they were called Wednesday around noon about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near North Interstate Avenue and North Killingsworth Street. But police said they found no pedestrians who claimed to have been struck.

Police said they knew the reported incident was related to the march, which they said had moved away into nearby streets by the time they arrived at the scene — and added that the march featured some people "openly carrying firearms."

More from the police:

Additional calls came in from people who had been driving vehicles in the area and who were blocked by the crowd in the street. One person said people in the crowd broke out their vehicle windows, damaged tires, and sprayed them with some kind of irritant near North Interstate Avenue and North Killingsworth Street.

A person in another vehicle blocked by the crowd near North Alberta Street and North Michigan Avenue got into a dispute with people who surrounded him and took a firearm from him, as well as tools and keys.

Portland Police attempted to collect as many statements as possible from those involved. Officers will document as much of the incidents as witnesses share and will attempt to gather available evidence, including video for follow-up on any criminal allegations.

One person was transported by ambulance to the hospital following one of the altercations.

President Joe Biden appeared to be caught off guard during a recent interview when a reporter suggested that "not one" migrant child separated from their families under the Trump administration has been reunited with their parents amid the ongoing immigration crisis.

What happened?
During the interview that aired Friday, NBC "Today" reporter Craig Melvin reminded the president of a campaign pledge he made last year to reunite with their parents migrant children who had reportedly been separated from their families under the Trump administration.

The president, in early February, signed an executive order "to launch a long-awaited task force to reunite families separated at the border under the Trump administration."

But Melvin then claimed that based on NBC News's reporting, "not one child" has been reunited. Axios similarly reported early this month that "not one of the hundreds of migrant families" had been reunited.

"I don't think that's true, but that could be," Biden responded to the charge, adding, "The thing is, we don't know yet where those kids are."


"We're trying like hell to figure out what happened," he continued. "It's almost like being a sleuth and we're still continuing to try like hell to find out where they are."


What else?
Since the start of Biden's presidency, the problem of managing unaccompanied migrant children has only been exacerbated as an unprecedented number of migrants — many of them children without their parents or other guardians — have surged into the country in anticipation of lenient treatment from the Biden administration.

But Biden assured, "What we have done is united children with their families as they've come across the border."

He told Melvin that the number of migrant children being held in such facilities has gone down "dramatically" of late, but failed to provide any specific number to back up his claim.

The president's comments are troubling, to say the least, given that thousands of unaccompanied minors were reportedly being held in cramped, cage-like Border Patrol facilities in recent weeks for longer than is legally permitted.

Anything else?
Elsewhere in the interview, rather than owning up to his administration's failures, Biden blamed former President Donald Trump's administration for the crisis.

"The two departments that didn't give us access to virtually anything were the immigration and the Defense Department," Biden said, adding that his aides were unaware of how "considerably" understaffed the federal agencies were due to a delayed transition.

"They didn't have beds," he said. "They didn't plan for the overflow."

Bloomberg article warns it's time to 'start planning for a permanent pandemic'

If you're to believe a Thursday Bloomberg report, it's high time to start planning for a "permanent pandemic."
What are the details?
Bloomberg reporter Andreas Kluth suggested that Americans get ready for full-time pandemic preparation.
"For the past year, an assumption — sometimes explicit, often tacit — has informed almost all our thinking about the pandemic: At some point, it will be over, and then we'll go 'back to normal,'" Kluth wrote. "This premise is almost certainly wrong."
There is no getting back to "normal," according to Kluth, who said that Americans ought to prepare themselves to fight COVID-19 — a "permanent enemy," like influenza, "but worse."
"In the case of SARS-CoV-2 ... recent developments suggest that we may never achieve herd immunity," Kluth continued, shooting down the idea of herd immunity. "Even in the U.S., which leads most other countries in vaccinations and already had large outbreaks, won't get there."
Not even vaccines were safe from Kluth's critical eye.
"That leaves only vaccination as a path toward lasting herd immunity," Kluth wrote. "And admittedly, some of the shots available today are still somewhat effective against some of the new variants. But over time they will become powerless against the coming mutations."
Modifications to existing vaccines, Kluth wrote, will need to be made as the pandemic continues.
"[T]hat process can't happen fast enough, nor cover the planet widely enough," Kluth added. "Yes, some of us may win a regional round or two against the virus, by vaccinating one particular population — as Israel has done, for instance. But evolution doesn't care where it does its work, and the virus replicates wherever it finds warm and unvaccinated bodies with cells that let it reproduce its RNA."
Kluth warned, "As it copies itself, it makes occasional coding mistakes. And some of those chance errors turn into yet more mutations."
Two paths
"Consider two alternative evolutionary paths," Kluth continued. "In one, a virus becomes more severe but not more transmissible. It will cause more disease and death, but the growth is linear. In the other path, a mutating virus becomes neither more nor less virulent but more contagious. It will cause increases in disease and death that are exponential rather than linear."
If the latter is the "evolutionary trajectory" of the virus, Kluth pointed out, "we're in for seemingly endless cycles of outbreaks and remissions, social restrictions, and relaxations, lockdowns, and reopening."
Despite the dire tone of the editorial, Kluth wrote that he is not "arguing for defeatism."
"In the grand sweep of history, COVID-19 is still a relatively mild pandemic," he reasoned. "Smallpox killed nine out of 10 Native Americans after the Spanish brought it to the Americas in the 16th century. The Black Death carried off about half of the Mediterranean population when it first came to Europe in the sixth century. Worldwide, the coronavirus has killed fewer than four in 10,000 so far. And with our science and technology, we're armed as our ancestors never were."
He added that Americans need to be realistic.
"Resilience demands that we include this new scenario into our planning," he concluded. "The good news is that we keep getting better at responding. In each lockdown, for example, we damage the economy less than in the previous one. And we may achieve scientific breakthroughs that will eventually make life better. Our Brave New World needn't be dystopian. But it won't look anything like the old world."

The Biden administration is searching for answers on how to handle the current border crisis, which has seen the highest number of illegal immigrants at the U.S. southern border in the last 20 years, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and a senior official with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. President Joe Biden nullified many of former President Donald Trump's immigration policies, but Mexican officials say that the previous administration's tough stance on illegal immigration helped curb migrants from Central and South America from making the journey north.
The New York Times reported, "The Biden administration's appeal to do more against migration has put Mexico in a difficult position. While Mr. Trump strong-armed Mexico into militarizing the border, some Mexican officials argue that his harsh policies may have at times helped lessen their load by deterring migrants from attempting to make the journey north."
In two months, the Biden administration has dismantled numerous immigration policies and tools that Trump instituted.
On his first day in the White House, President Biden stopped all construction on the border wall.
Biden created a task force to reunite children who were separated from their parents during the Trump administration.
Biden signed an executive action that "will direct the State Department, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security to review guidelines and policies implemented under Trump to determine whether they are in line with the government's desire to promote 'integration and inclusion,'" according to NBC News.
The Biden administration reinstituted the Central American minors program, an Obama-era immigration policy that allowed parents who are lawfully present in the U.S. to request refugee status for their children who are living in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The Trump administration ended the program in 2017.
The Biden administration announced last month that it would phase out Trump's "remain in Mexico" policy.
"Beginning on February 19, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will begin phase one of a program to restore safe and orderly processing at the southwest border," the Department of Homeland Security said. "DHS will begin processing people who had been forced to 'remain in Mexico' under the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP). Approximately 25,000 individuals in MPP continue to have active cases." The Trump administration made an agreement with the Mexican government that allowed U.S. border officials to send back more than 70,000 migrants to Mexico under the Migrant Protection Protocols.
Biden's proposed "groundbreaking" immigration reform plan is expected to provide a pathway to citizenship to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants residing in the United States.
On the campaign trail, Biden announced to the world that he would end deportations if he was elected, "In the first 100 days of my administration — no one — no one will be deported at all. From that point on, the only deportations that will take place are commissions of felonies in the United States of America."
Last week, New York Times reporters spoke to Gladys Oneida Pérez Cruz, a migrant woman who paid a coyote $9,000 to get her and her son to the United States. "Biden promised us that everything was going to change. He hasn't done it yet, but he is going to be a good president for migrants."
In January, migrant rights group Pueblo Sin Fronteras issued a statement on behalf of migrants traveling to the U.S. in a caravan, which demanded the Biden administration to "honor its commitments." "We recognize the importance of the incoming Government of the United States having shown a strong commitment to migrants and asylum seekers, which presents an opportunity for the governments of Mexico and Central America to develop policies and a migration management that respect and promote the human rights of the population in mobility," the statement read. "We will advocate that the Biden government honors its commitments."
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called Biden the "migrant president," adding that so many illegal immigrants "feel they're going to reach the United States,"
This week, Biden's DHS secretary said if "loving parents" send their children to the U.S. border, "We will not expel" them, "we will care for them."
The current border crisis has overwhelmed migrant facilities — some up to 729% capacity. There are reports of children in facilities "akin to jails," forced to take turns sleeping on floors, and only allowed one shower per week.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) slammed the Biden administration over its handling of the massive surge, calling it an "abject failure." Abbott revealed that one migrant facility for minors had unsafe drinking water and another one had a COVID-19 outbreak.
