White House press secretary Jen Psaki was confronted by a New York Times reporter on Tuesday over the Biden administration crediting themselves for brokering a deal that will allow all American adults to have access to the coronavirus vaccine within a matter of months.

POLL: What scares you the most?
What is the background?
President Joe Biden announced Tuesday that every American adult would have access to the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of May.

The remarkable feat was made possible by a new deal between pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. and Johnson & Johnson, manufacture of the new one-shot regimen awarded emergency authorization by the Food and Drug Administration last Saturday.

During his press conference, Biden credited his administration for brokering the deal and chided his predecessor.

"We are now on track to have enough vaccine supply for every adult in America by the end of May," Biden said. "When we came into office, the prior administration had contracted not nearly enough vaccine to cover adults in America"
"We rectified that," Biden claimed.

What happened at the press briefing?
New York Times White House correspondent Michael Shear asked Psaki how the Biden administration can take credit for the deal when, in fact, the New York Times reported about the deal in January.

"On the timing of the administration's efforts to help pull this deal together, you said that it was within, I think, the last few weeks," Shear began. "We wrote our first story at the New York Times about a possible partnership between Merck and J&J for manufacturing on Jan 21."

"My understanding is that talks between those companies had been in the works before that even, in terms of, sort of, the corporate discussions between them," Shear continued, adding, "How it is that the Biden administration deserves credit for bringing these two together, when it looks like the discussions had been under way long before you guys got here?"

In response, Psaki said the Biden administration is merely celebrating the finalization of the deal.

"Just to be clear, I'm talking about when it was finalized so that we could move it forward," Psaki said.

"I'm only conveying what got it across the finish line, and I think it's clear that that has only happened relatively recently. But certainly the history of conversations between Merck and J&J, long before the J&J vaccine was even approved, you know, you certainly might have more information on than I do," she added.

A south Texas justice of the peace was arrested along with three other individuals who face 150 charges of voter fraud altogether.
Medina County Justice of the Peace Tomas Ramirez was arrested on Feb. 11 and is charged on one count of organized election fraud, one count of "assisting voter voting ballot by mail," and 17 counts of unlawful possession of a ballot or ballot envelope, KABB reports.

He was arrested with Leonor Rivas Garza, Eva Ann Martinez, and Mary Balderrama. All four were indicted by a Bandera Grand Jury on Feb. 9.

Garza, Martinez, and Balderrama were each charged with organized election fraud. They also face multiple charges of illegal voting, unlawful possession of a ballot or ballot envelope, election fraud, fraudulent use of an absentee ballot by mail, tampering with a government record, and purportedly acting as an agent.

According to the Texas attorney general's office, the case against Ramirez and the others involves allegations of vote harvesting at assisted living centers in Medina County in the 2018 Medina County Primary Election. Ramirez was elected as a justice of the peace in 2018 and was suspended from his position after his arrest.

In a statement, Ramirez said he was "stunned" by the allegations and denied all charges against him:

I was stunned by the allegations because there is absolutely no truth to them. I have spent the last 27 years building my law practice and serving in this community which has created my reputation for fairness, sincerity and integrity. I entered the race for JP because I wanted to serve Medina County and make the office function better for its citizens. I feel I have done exactly that up to this point. For people who know me, these allegations are absurd. To those who don't, it provides reason to sneer and hate.

I will vigorously defend myself to the fullest extent and I fully expect to be vindicated.
The arrests come as former President Donald Trump continues to allege that the 2020 presidential was illegitimate because of voter fraud. Though there were incidents of attempted voter fraud committed on a relatively small scale, there is no evidence of widespread election fraud occurring in the 2020 election as Trump's legal team alleged.

Speaking at the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference Sunday, Trump claimed, "This election was rigged, and the Supreme Court and other courts didn't want to do anything about it."

"Had we had a fair election, the results would have been much different," he asserted.

Florida woman arrested after taunting and threatening FBI on TikTok for trying to question her about the Capitol riot

A Florida woman was arrested after taunting the FBI on a TikTok video and threatening to shoot them if they tried to question her about her presence at the protest preceding the U.S. Capitol riot. The Department of Justice said in a statement on Friday that Suzanne Kaye of Boca Raton had been arrested over the threat to shoot FBI agents who migght come to her house.

Prosecutors said the FBI contacted Kaye on Jan. 28 after they received an anonymous tip that she had posted on Facebook that she had been at the protest at the Capitol. The FBI says Kaye denied being at the Capitol but said she knew of people who had travelled there. She agreed to speak to them and gave them her address.

Kaye gave a much different account of her interaction with the FBI in the video that was also posted to her "ANGRY Patriot Hippie" page on Facebook.

Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré has been leading a review of security measures at the U.S. Capitol at the direction of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) following the Jan. 6 attack on the building by a mob of Trump supporters.

POLL: What scares you the most?
But recent inflammatory comments made by the 74-year-old retired Army general against Republicans are raising questions about whether he was the right pick for the job.

What are the details?
Fox News' Tucker Carlson alerted his viewers Wednesday night to a tweet Honoré made on Jan. 11, days after the siege, when he said of Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), "This little peace of s**t with his @Yale law degree should be run out of DC and Disbarred ASAP," tagging Hawley and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), whom he dubbed "aaa hats," and adding, "these @Yale and @Harvard law grads is high order white privilege."

Content warning: Language

Hawley and Cruz led high-profile efforts on Jan. 6 to reject some Electoral College votes cast in favor of President Joe Biden, the same day Trump hosted a rally in Washington, D.C., in protest of the election results before the mob of activists stormed the Capitol.

Carlson also pointed out unfounded speculations Honoré made in the media in the days following the attack, such as his assumption that those in charge of security at the Capitol — including a high percentage of Capitol Police officers could have been "complicit" in the attack and whom he dubbed "Trumpers."

You may view Carlson's segment in its entirety below. His coverage of Honoré begins around the 16:30 mark:

Anything else?
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) also slammed the Honoré appointment Wednesday night, tweeting, "General Honoré is an extreme partisan and should be the LAST person to head up an investigation of what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6th."

Johnson pointed to a Fox News article from last July when Honoré told MSNBC that then-acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf needs "to be run out of Washington" due to what he called "bulls***" tactics used by federal agents to contain mobs in Portland, Oregon, amid unrest in the city.

Honoré also tried to get his Twitter followers to "stop buying" what he called the "s*** stocks" of companies that advertise with Sean Hannity, saying the Fox News host "speaks #Russian iNFO OPERATIONS TO SUCK UP TO #45."

To say that parents nationwide are tired of the mixed messages they're getting from school district leadership, the state governments, and the teachers' unions would be an understatement.

POLL: What scares you the most?
But parents are easy to ignore. American school districts have been doing it for decades.

From New York to Chicago to Portland, elected leaders are instead cowering to teachers' unions and refusing to get teachers back in classrooms even as state and federal health officials repeatedly declare that it's safe to return to in-person instruction.

In Los Angeles, teachers have been fighting going back to work for months now — and the cries of parents and students seemingly have been ignored by the bigwigs of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

However, one group in L.A. that is harder to ignore just jumped into the fray on the side of parents: the editorial board of the Los Angeles Times.

In a Wednesday editorial, the paper declared that the city's school district "is officially out of excuses for keeping elementary schools closed" and that the superintendent "needs to put on his big-boy pants" and tell educators to get back into the classroom.

The paper noted that despite the fact that schools across the country have reopened with little risk and that elementary students are "far less likely" to get COVID or infect others and that there have been zero surges caused by reopened schools, L.A. Unified schools (and many others throughout California) have remained shuttered.

According to the paper, Superintendent Austin Beutner can finally open schools now because the county's infection rate has fallen to the point where it is "officially safe" for every elementary school in the county to open.

Yet, Beutner — who has been in an ongoing struggle with United Teachers Los Angeles — still does not have any immediate plans to reopen, the Times said.

"There are no more excuses. Further delay is unacceptable," the paper declared.

Beutner has been acquiescing to UTLA's demands — getting school buildings ready for teachers and students, updating testing availability, and implementing an elaborate tracing regimen, not to mention pushing to get teachers vaccinated before returning (which public experts have repeatedly said is not necessary) — yet the union continues to stand in the way.

The Times has a message for Beutner: Get tough with the unions and demand that teachers get back to work — or understand they could find themselves out of work.

From the Times:
It's not easy to go against UTLA, as Beutner learned during a bruising strike two years ago. But at this point, the superintendent needs to put on his big-boy pants, reopen schools and demand that teachers return or risk their jobs. Union leaders in turn need to realize that not only are students done a tremendous disservice by the continued closures, but most parents vehemently want their kids back in the classroom. The union is jeopardizing its own popularity if it continues to put the needs of students and families last.
It's also time for Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, the paper said, to "fall in line with the CDC" and get kids back into schools.

The Biden administration has instructed Department of Homeland Security officials to use more "inclusive language" to describe people residing in the country illegally, such as dropping the word "alien" and replacing it with "noncitizen," according to a memo recently issued by immigration authorities.

POLL: What scares you the most?
What are the details?
The changes are reportedly part of an effort by the Biden administration to portray itself as more welcoming on immigration than the previous administration under President Trump, which would use terms such as "illegal aliens" to describe people who bypassed U.S. laws and security perimeters to enter and remain in the country.

According to Axios, an email sent Tuesday to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials described how the agency's acting director, Tracy Renaud, had signed a memo encouraging "more inclusive language in the agency's outreach efforts, internal documents and in overall communication with stakeholders, partners and the general public."

The memo, obtained by BuzzFeed News, instructed officials to stop referring to people as "illegal alien," "alien," or "undocumented alien" in internal and external communications, but instead use the terms "noncitizen," "undocumented noncitizen," or "undocumented individual."

It also urged USCIS officials to discontinue their use of the term "assimilation" in exchange for "integration" and begin referring to those who apply for benefits like green cards as "customers," BuzzFeed reported. USCIS is a subsidiary agency which operates within the DHS.

What else?
Interestingly, besides planned use in the agency's internal communications and any communications it has with the public, the wording changes are not set to affect forms or operational documents where using the previous terminology is deemed most appropriate. That fact indicates the changes are nothing more than a messaging makeover.

Though, by continuing to soften language associated with illegal immigration, the administration undoubtedly hopes to move public opinion on the matter toward greater acceptance of illegal entry and favor for open borders.

The words being replaced in the agency's messaging are in fact the most accurate technical terms to describe issues at hand. Even BuzzFeed acknowledges that the term "alien" is routinely found within U.S. Code and is "regularly referenced in the immigration system and in court rulings to describe everyone who is not a US citizen."

Speaking with Axios, Robert Law, a former Trump administration official who now works at the Center for Immigration Studies, noted, "By statute, 'alien' literally means a person not a U.S. citizen or national."

"That is not offensive, and neither is 'assimilation,'" he said.

A top Democratic congressman filed a lawsuit in federal court against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday over Trump's alleged role in the deadly violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.?
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, filed the lawsuit to hold Trump personally accountable for his alleged role in the Capitol riot.

The lawsuit — which named Rudy Giuliani, Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers as co-defendants — claims Trump and his co-defendants "plotted, coordinated, and executed a common plan to prevent Congress from discharging its official duties in certifying the results of the presidential election."

Several top leaders of the anti-Trump Super PAC, the Lincoln Project, were aware of sexual harassment allegations against one of its co-founders, John Weaver, as early as last March, the 19th reported Tuesday.

POLL: What scares you the most?
The news raises serious questions about the Lincoln Project's handling of the controversy, especially considering the organization claimed in a statement last month that it was "shocked" when the allegations started surfacing.

Critics now allege that the organization covered up the allegations so as not to distract from its efforts to boot former President Donald Trump from the Oval Office.

Weaver, a longtime establishment Republican strategist who advised the late Sen. John McCain and former Gov. John Kasich before going on to launch the anti-Trump political operation, admitted in January to sending "inappropriate" sexually suggestive messages to multiple young men over the course of his career in politics.

Weaver's admission followed public accusations from several young men — a number now totaling at least 21 — similarly recalling how Weaver demonstrated grooming behavior by sending unsolicited sexually charged messages often alongside promises of career advancement. One of the accusers was a 14-year-old boy who claims Weaver asked him about his body.

The veteran operative, who is married to a woman and has two children, announced he is gay in a statement and apologized to the young men he harassed, saying he thought at the time the exchanges were "consensual mutual conversations."

The Associated Press previously reported the organization's leadership was informed about at least 10 specific allegations of harassment against Weaver last June, including two involving Lincoln Project employees. The informers detailed the allegations in writing and in subsequent phone calls to the Super PAC's leaders.

That also stands in contrast to the Lincoln Project's statement, which declared that "at no time was John Weaver in the physical presence of any member of The Lincoln Project."

On Monday, the Lincoln Project told the 19th it had hired outside counsel to conduct a "comprehensive review of our operations and culture." Embroiled in controversy, the organization has also hastily released current and former employees from nondisclosure agreements.

"We are committed to creating a positive, diverse, and inclusive workplace environment at The Lincoln Project and inappropriate behavior by anyone associated with the organization will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We have already taken decisive action to address internal concerns," co-founder Reed Galen told the progressive outlet.

Supreme Court set to consider high-profile election lawsuits this week

The Supreme Court is scheduled to consider a handful of high-profile election challenges at its mid-February conference taking place this week. If the court chooses to accept any of the lawsuits, they will likely be heard and decided in October.
The cases include lawsuits filed by pro-Trump attorneys Lin Wood and Sidney Powell in Georgia and Michigan, a lawsuit filed by Pennsylvania Republican state Rep. Mike Kelly, and two lawsuits filed in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania by former President Donald Trump's campaign.

The lawsuits collectively allege that unlawful conduct took place in several battleground states during the 2020 presidential election, such as the unconstitutional expansion of mail-in voting by state election officials, the failure to enforce security measures for mail-in ballots, the denial of meaningful access for Republican poll watchers, and technical issues involving voting machines.

After the lawsuits were rejected by lower courts in the weeks following the election, attorneys representing plaintiffs in the lawsuits made their appeals to the Supreme Court in short order, but the court opted not to consider the cases during a turbulent transition period.

Now, all of the cases mentioned above are scheduled for a conference taking place this Friday, February 19, according to records on the Supreme Court's website.

In nearly every plea, attorneys backing Trump's election challenges insisted their cases be heard prior to President Joe Biden's inauguration on Jan. 20, or else their success would be unlikely, the Washington Examiner reported. However, even now that Biden's inauguration has come and gone, the lawsuits have not been withdrawn.

"Our legal issue remains important and in need of the court's review," Trump lawyer John Eastman told the Examiner in reference to Pennsylvania's handling of the 2020 election. Kelly's lawyer Greg Teufel added that he has no plans to drop the lawsuit.

The attorneys likely believe their lawsuits can set in motion the advance of election security legislation even if they did not affect the 2020 presidential election, as originally intended.

Even now, Republican lawmakers across the country are pushing for legislation to reform elections, especially reining in widespread mail-in voting.

Marco Rubio questions whether Trump impeachment sets 'new precedent' that could target Hillary Clinton
NEWS
'Therefore, is it not true that under this new precedent a future House facing partisan pressure to "lock her up" could impeach a former Secretary of State...'
CHRIS ENLOEFebruary 13, 2021
Could the Democratic Party's pursuit of another Trump impeachment have consequences for one of their own? That is exactly what Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) suggested could happen.

POLL: What scares you the most?
What happened?
During former President Donald Trump's Senate impeachment trial on Friday, Rubio asked whether retroactively using the Constitution's impeachment mechanisms against Trump would create a ripple effect allowing other former government officials to be impeached and face a Senate trial.

In his question, Rubio asked about a "former secretary of state," a clear reference to Hillary Clinton.

Rubio asked, according to Mediate:

Voting to convict the former president would create a new precedent that a former official can be convicted and disqualified by the Senate. Therefore, is it not true that under this new precedent a future House facing partisan pressure to "lock her up" could impeach a former Secretary of State and a future Senate be forced to put her on trial and potentially disqualify from any future office?
In response, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the lead impeachment manager, claimed the "jurisdictional issue is over."

Raskin added that Rubio's hypothetical question "has no bearing on this case because I don't think you're talking about an official who was impeached while they were in office for conduct that they committed while they were in office."

What did Trump's lawyer say?
Michael van der Veen, one of former President Donald Trump's defense attorneys, disagreed.

He told Rubio that Democrats are setting a precedent that could not only be applied to the "former secretary of state," but "to a lot of people and that's not the way this is supposed to work and not only could it happen to a lot of people, it would become much more regular, too."

Van der Veen added that Rubio's question highlights the "absolutely slippery slope" of Democrats decision to pursue an impeachment trial despite Trump no longer being president.

"The original question is an absolutely slippery slope that I don't really think anybody here wants to send this country down," van deer Veen said.

Anything else?
Trump's trial will most likely end on Saturday with his acquittal.

Earlier in the day, the Senate voted to call witnesses, which would have extended the trial indefinitely. However, the Senate quickly reached an agreement that included not calling witnesses.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also announced that he would vote to acquit Trump.

"While a close call, I am persuaded that impeachments are a tool primarily of removal and we therefore lack jurisdiction," McConnell said in a letter to Senate Republicans.

An anti-police march attended by Black Lives Matter members in New York City descended into violence Friday night.

POLL: What scares you the most?
About 100 protesters attended the "F*** 12" march in Midtown Manhattan. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, "F*** 12" and "F12" are anti-police terms that mean "f*** the police," a reference to the police TV shows "Adam-12" or "Barney Miller," which was set at the New York City Police Department's 12th Precinct.

Demonstrators with Black Lives Matter, which was nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize three weeks ago, burned an American flag and a pro-law enforcement thin blue line flag near the NYPD kiosk in Times Square in a supposed protest against police brutality.

The Senate voted to acquit former President Donald Trump on a charge of incitement of insurrection for the Capitol riot on Jan. 6. Liberal Hollywood celebrities suffered complete meltdowns over the results of the impeachment trial.

All of the Democratic senators and seven Republicans voted to convict Trump, resulting in a 57 to 43 vote, 10 short of the 67 votes needed to secure a conviction against Trump.

The hashtag #43Traitors trended on Twitter after Trump's acquittal, which was full of rage toward the 43 Republicans who voted to acquit the former president. In the U.S., traitors who are convicted of treason are subject to "suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years."

Twitter reactions by several left-wing celebrities labeled the 43 Republican lawmakers who voted to acquit as "traitors."

"Frozen" voice actor Josh Gad quote-tweeted a "list of traitors up for election in '22."

After seven Republican senators voted on Saturday to convict former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, at least two state GOP organizations rebuked their own senator.

Although Trump was acquitted on Saturday by a vote of 57-43, falling short of the 67-vote threshold needed to convict, seven Republicans joined their Democratic colleagues in determining that Trump was "guilty" of "incitement of insurrection" stemming from the deadly violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Those Republican senators were: Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.), Bill Cassidy (La.), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Mitt Romney (Utah), Ben Sasse (Neb.), and Pat Toomey (Penn.).

What was the response?
Burr and Cassidy were swiftly rebuked by their state parties after their vote.

In fact, the Louisiana Republican Party wasted no time censuring Cassidy.

"The Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Louisiana has unanimously voted to censure Senator Bill Cassidy for his vote cast earlier today to convict former President Donald J. Trump on the impeachment charge," the Louisiana Republican Party said in a brief statement.

Cassidy explained his vote, saying, "Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person."

Meanwhile, the North Carolina Republican Party also rebuked Burr for his vote.

"North Carolina Republicans sent Senator Burr to the United States Senate to uphold the Constitution and his vote today to convict in a trial that he declared unconstitutional is shocking and disappointing," NCGOP Chairman Michael Whatley said in a statement.

Barr also explained why he voted to convict.

"The evidence is compelling that President Trump is guilty of inciting an insurrection against a coequal branch of government and that the charge rises to the level of high Crimes and Misdemeanors. Therefore, I have voted to convict," Barr said in a statement. "I do not make this decision lightly, but I believe it is necessary."

Anything else?
Only two of the seven Republicans who voted to convict will be up for re-election within the next four years: Murkowski in 2022 and Romney in 2024.

On the other hand, Sasse, Cassidy, and Collins were just re-elected, while Burr and Toomey will retire at the conclusion of their terms.

After the Senate voted on Saturday to acquit former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tore into Trump.

McConnell, who voted to acquit Trump of charges of "incitement of insurrection," unequivocally blamed Trump for the deadly violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6., saying Trump is certainly guilty of a "disgraceful dereliction of duty."

"There's no question — none — that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of [Jan. 6]," McConnell said.

"The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president," McConnell added, which he called a "foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo" of Trump's "false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole."

As TheBlaze reported, McConnell had already announced that he would vote to acquit Trump.

The Kentucky Republican explained afterward that he voted "not guilty" based on jurisdictional considerations, meaning he did not believe the Constitution permitted the Senate to exercise its impeachment powers against a private citizen, despite Trump being formally impeached by the House while he was still in office.

In fact, McConnell said Article 2, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution makes Trump "not eligible for conviction."

However, McConnell conceded that he would have "carefully considered" the impeachment charge if Trump were still in office.

Criminally liable?
Toward the end of his speech, McConnell said that "by the strict criminal standard," Trump is "probably not" guilty of incitement of violence.

However, McConnell made it clear that Trump has not been criminally absolved.

"President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he's in office, as an ordinary citizen, unless the statute of limitations has run," McConnell said.

"He didn't get away with anything — yet, yet," McConnell added. "We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation, and former presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one."

Thus far, no criminal action has been initiated against Trump related to the Capitol riots.

However, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has launched a criminal probe into Trump over his alleged attempts to "overturn Georgia's election results," NPR reported, which stems from a call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R).

A California judge has partially ruled against Soros-backed Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón's sweeping criminal justice reform package on Monday, ruling that some of his directives violated California law and would have placed his deputy district attorneys in legal and ethical jeopardy.

POLL: What scares you the most?
Superior Court Judge James Chalfant issued his ruling in response to a lawsuit filed by Gascón's own deputy district attorneys, who alleged in their lawsuit that Gascón's policies — which prohibited them from applying sentencing enhancements that have long been considered mandatory under California law — would have required them to violate California law and their own ethical obligations. Specifically, they argued that policies are unlawful that require them to not seek certain sentencing enhancements that are mandated by California law.

With respect to cases that have already been filed, Judge Chalfant agreed, issuing a preliminary injunction preventing those policies from being implemented. Of specific importance, California law requires district attorneys who are seeking to drop sentencing enhancements to make representations to the court that certain circumstances exist, and the judge found that Gascón's policy would have effectively required these district attorneys to lie in court.

The judge also faulted Gascón's policies for failing to take into account the effect they would have on victims of crime, as required under California law. As Chalfant noted, "There is not a single reference to a concern for victims in the sentencing process" under Gascón's policies.

However, the judge declined to enjoin Gascón from implementing his policies with respect to cases brought in the future, noting that prosecutors generally have wide discretion in performing those duties. The judge was not swayed by the deputy district attorneys' arguments that California state law clearly and plainly states that prosecutors "shall" seek sentencing requirements in certain cases, claiming (in reasoning that would certainly come as a surprise to most speakers of English) that "shall" is not always considered mandatory in legislative statutes and that such language cannot constrain the discretion inherent in prosecutorial functions.

Moreover, the judge ruled, Gascón's policies should not have been a "surprise" since he explicitly ran on implementing them. It is unclear from Chalfant's decision how Gascón's victory in his local election is legally relevant to the interpretation of the plain text of California state law.

Gascón has promised to appeal the judge's decision, but also has promised to abide by the terms of the judge's injunction until that appeal has been decided.

Billionaire left-wing financier George Soros spent over $2 million of his vast fortune propping up Gascón's campaign, during which he explicitly ran on a platform of eliminating sentencing enhancements and cash bail and reducing Los Angeles' prison population.

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper compared the sentiments of Trump supporters who stormed the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 to the dehumanizing beliefs that triggered genocides in Africa and Europe.
POLL: What scares you the most?
What did Cooper say?
Speaking on his show Tuesday, Cooper compared rhetoric that inspired Trump supporters to storm the Capitol to rhetoric that, in part, resulted in genocides in Rwanda and Bosnia in the 1990s.
To bolster his case, Cooper cited "otherizing" people, or the perpetuation of an "us versus them" mentality.
"Part of it, I think, just based on what you were just saying, it comes to mind, the idea of otherizing people is something I think we saw a lot of over the last four years. I mean, certainly we've seen a lot over the last decades, but it's so easy to otherize people, to make people other than, other than American, other than patriotic, other than human," Cooper said.

"You know, and we've seen it in Bosnia, we've seen it in Rwanda, where radio was telling people that you know, Hutus, were telling the radio listeners that Tutsi were cockroaches for, you know, getting them ginned up for genocide," he continued.

White House defends order permitting trans athletes to compete in girls' sports: 'Trans rights are human rights'
NEWS
Defended Biden's executive order
SARAH TAYLORFebruary 10, 2021
White House press secretary Jen Psaki is defending President Joe Biden's executive order demanding schools permit transgender students be able to participate in sports based on their preferred gender identity.
POLL: What scares you the most?
What order is this?
Biden signed the executive order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation on Jan. 21, which stated, "Every person should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to live without fear, no matter who they are or whom they love. Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or the school sports."
What are the details?
According to Fox News, Psaki defended Biden's order on Tuesday.
After a reporter asked what "Biden's message was to school officials tackling the disputes regarding transgender and cisgender girls competing together," Psaki said that Biden's "belief is that trans rights are human rights."

The reporter added that the order could potentially lead to situations where "trans girls and cis girls" may "end up competing against each other," prompting litigation and more from parents, and added that the administration should clarify to local school officials how to handle such disputes.
"And that's why he signed that executive order," she added. "And in terms of the determinations by universities and colleges, I would certainly defer to them."
The Department of Education has yet to issue any official guidance on enforcing the executive order.
What else?
During Education Secretary nominee Miguel Cardona's confirmation hearing, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said that trans girls participating in women's sports "would completely destroy girls' athletics."
Cardona disagreed.
"I think it's the legal responsibility for schools to provide opportunities for students to participate in activities and this includes students who are transgender," Cardona reasoned.

President Joe Biden pledged during his campaign that he would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour if he won the White House, tipping his hat to progressives who believe the current federal minimum wage leaves working-class Americans impoverished.

POLL: What scares you the most?
Biden seemingly made good on that promise with his $1.9 trillion coronavirus-related economic relief plan. Stuffed inside Biden's proposal is the minimum wage hike.

But now it appears the minimum wage hike could be jettisoned altogether as Democrats and Republicans negotiate the third round of COVID-related economic stimulus.

What is going on?
Biden admitted in an interview with CBS News that aired before the Super Bowl that his key campaign promise of hiking the minimum wage likely will not survive legislative negotiations.

"My guess is it will not be in it," he said, Politico reported. "I don't think it is going to survive."

Biden cited Senate rules that require 60 votes to invoke cloture on bills to avoid a filibuster.

NYT report: FBI and Capitol Police were aware of violent threats days before Capitol riots, were warned about 'looming war'

The impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump is slated to begin on Feb. 9. Trump is being charged for "willfully inciting violence against the Government of the United States." Many media pundits and Democrats have claimed that Trump's 70-minute speech at the Ellipse outside the White House on Jan. 6 "incited" the storming of the U.S. Capitol building and the subsequent riot. However, a new report from the New York Times finds that the FBI and the Capitol Police were aware of threats targeting the Capitol days before Trump's speech.

POLL: What scares you the most?
The New York Times report stated that there were "thousands of social media posts in the days before the assault, which documented how the rioters saw the Capitol — and the lawmakers certifying the election results — as a specific target."

A social media post on Jan. 5 by an unidentified person read, "Every corrupt member of Congress locked in one room and surrounded by real Americans is an opportunity that will never present itself again."

The New York Times article declared:

The FBI was aware of violent online posts before the rally, with the bureau's field office in Norfolk, Virginia, issuing a report that flagged one anonymous thread that warned of a looming war at the Capitol.
The Washington Post reported on another violent online threat that the FBI was aware of:

An online thread discussed specific calls for violence to include stating 'Be ready to fight. Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being kicked in, and blood from their BLM and Pantifa slave soldiers being spilled. Get violent. Stop calling this a march, or rally, or a protest. Go there ready for war. We get our President or we die. NOTHING else will achieve this goal.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation took the threats seriously enough to establish a "24-hour command posts at both the local Washington field office and its headquarters, not far from the Capitol." The FBI also "put tactical teams on standby, which it had not done for the previous two marches by Trump's supporters — on Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 — protesting the election results."

"Before Jan. 6, the FBI and our federal, state and local partners collected and shared available intelligence in preparation for the various planned events," the FBI said in a statement. "As indicated earlier, those leads deterred some from attending the Jan. 6 protest."

During testimony in January, acting Capitol Police chief Yogananda Pittman told Congress:

By January 4th, the Department knew that the January 6th event would likely not be like any of the protests held in 2020. We knew that militia groups and white supremacist organizations would be attending. We also knew that some of these participants were intending to bring firearms and other weapons to the event. We knew that there was a strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target.
The Capitol Police released a 12-page assessment regarding the "March to Save America" rally three days before the Capitol riots. According to the Washington Post, the Capitol Police report "warned of a violent scenario in which 'Congress itself' could be the target of angry supporters of President Trump on Jan. 6, laying out a stark alert that deepens questions about the security failures that day."

The Capitol Police, a federal law enforcement agency with the responsibility of protecting Congress, stated in the Jan. 3 memo:

Supporters of the current president see January 6, 2021, as the last opportunity to overturn the results of the presidential election. This sense of desperation and disappointment may lead to more of an incentive to become violent. Unlike previous post-election protests, the targets of the pro-Trump supporters are not necessarily the counter-protesters as they were previously, but rather Congress itself is the target on the 6th.
The report also cautioned, "This combined with Stop the Steal's propensity to attract white supremacists, militia members, and others who actively promote violence, may lead to significantly dangerous situations for law enforcement and the general public alike."

The Capitol Police communication also reportedly forewarned that "organizers were urging Trump supporters to come armed with guns and to bring specialized combat gear — including gas masks and military-style bulletproof vests called 'plate carriers' — to Washington on Jan. 6."

All of the Capitol Police command staff were informed of the intelligence report by Jack Donohue, intelligence director of the United States Capitol Police.

The Washington Post noted that the Capitol Police's internal report "does not appear to have been shared widely with other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI — was among a number of flags that security experts say should have alerted officials to the high security risks on Jan. 6."

Former Capitol Police chief Steven Sund, who resigned in wake of the violent riot, told the Washington Post on Jan. 15, "We looked at the intelligence. We knew we would have large crowds, the potential for some violent altercations. I had nothing indicating we would have a large mob seize the Capitol."

On Feb. 1, Sund sent an eight-page letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congressional leaders. The letter gave his insights into what lead up to the Capitol riots.

Perfect hindsight does not change the fact that nothing in our collective experience or our intelligence — including intelligence provided by FBI, Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and D.C. Metropolitan Police (MPD) — indicated that a well-coordinated, armed assault on the Capitol might occur on Jan. 6.
Sund said that before and during the Capitol riots, he requested assistance from the National Guard six times, but his requests for military backup were "rejected or delayed."

The Capitol Police Labor Committee proclaimed that the department's leadership "failed to relay the known threat of violence adequately ahead of the Jan. 6 deadly riot, calling the acting chief's recent admission of prior knowledge of the threat to Congress a 'disclosure that has angered and shocked the rank-and-file officers.'"

Leftists blast Dolly Parton's '5 to 9' Super Bowl ad that celebrates 'working' for your 'dreams' — and the backlash is fierce

One of many Super Bowl commercials making headlines the day after the big game features country music legend Dolly Parton turning her iconic song "9 to 5" on its head by celebrating the grit and determination of entrepreneurship as folks out there are "working working working / working 5 to 9" until their "dreams come true."Here's the com ...

Simon & Schuster announced this week that one of its imprints will publish a forthcoming memoir from Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.

POLL: What scares you the most?
The announcement came just weeks after the publishing house backed out of moving forward with the publication of a book from Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.).

What are the details?
Simon & Schuster announced on Thursday that Gallery Books, an imprint of publishing house, will publish a book from Hunter Biden in April titled, "Beautiful Things."

The book "details Hunter's descent into substance abuse and his tortuous path to sobriety," according to a press release.

The book received advanced praise from novelist Stephen King, who gushed over the book.

In AA we say it doesn't matter if you come from Yale or jail, all addicts are the same. In his harrowing and compulsively readable memoir, Hunter Biden proves again that anybody—even the son of a United States President—can take a ride on the pink horse down nightmare alley. There are plenty of memoirs about the Three Rs (rum, ruin, and redemption), but there are sections in this one that stand out with haunting clarity. Biden remembers it all and tells it all with a bravery that is both heartbreaking and quite gorgeous. He starts with a question: Where's Hunter? The answer is he's in this book, the good, the bad, and the beautiful.
Hunter Biden has been in news headlines routinely since 2019, facing scrutiny for his overseas business dealings in Ukraine and China.

Ilhan Omar's campaign funded nearly 80% of all payments to her husband's consulting firm: Federal filings

A new report found that campaign funds from Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar compromised an overwhelming majority of payments that went to her husband's political consulting firm.

POLL: What scares you the most?
During the 2020 election cycle, nearly 80% of the $3.7 million in total political payments to E Street Group, which is co-owned by Omar's husband Tim Mynett, came from Omar's campaign, according to federal filings.

"Omar's campaign was by far its biggest moneymaker, doling out 146 checks for $2.9 million, or 78 percent of the firm's payments," the Washington Free Beacon reported. "Its second biggest cash source was Omar mentor Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D., Wash.), whose campaign provided $194,000. The two combined for 85 percent of the firm's payments."

https://www.theblaze.com/news/health-care-worker-taken-to-er-just-a-few-hours-after-getting-second-covid-vaccine-shot-four-days-later-he-was-dead?utm_source=theblaze-dailyPM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Daily-Newsletter__PM%202021-01-28&utm_term=ACTIVE%20LIST%20-%20TheBlaze%20Daily%20PM
Health care worker taken to ER just a few hours after getting second COVID-19 vaccine shot. Four days later he was dead.
'He believed in vaccines. I'm sure he would take that vaccine again, and he'd want the public to take it.'
An X-ray technologist from Orange, California, fell ill and was taken to an emergency room just a few hours after receiving his second dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine earlier this month — and four days later he was dead, the Orange County Register reported.

POLL: What scares you the most?
What are the details?
Tim Zook, 60, seemed quite hopeful in a Jan. 5 Facebook post, the Register said.

"Never been so excited to get a shot before," Zook wrote above a photo of a Band-Aid on his arm and his COVID-19 vaccination card, the paper reported. "I am now fully vaccinated after receiving my 2nd Pfizer dose."
It would turn out to be his final Facebook post.
Just a few hours later, Zook — an X-ray technologist at South Coast Global Medical Center in Santa Ana — had an upset stomach and trouble breathing, the Register said. By 3:30 p.m. his condition worsened so much that his co-workers walked him to the emergency room, the paper added.
"Should I be worried?" his wife, Rochelle, texted him when after receiving the news, the Register sid.

"No, absolutely not," Zook texted back, the paper noted.

"Do you think this is a direct result of the vaccine?" she texted, the Register noted.

"No, no," he replied, according to the paper. "I'm not sure what. But don't worry."

The Register said Zook "passionately urged folks to embrace COVID precautions such as masking up and staying home as ICUs were inundated in December."

Rapid decline
But Zook's condition quickly worsened.

More from the Register:

There were suspicions of COVID and a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. Zook was put on oxygen, then — just four hours later — a BiPAP machine to help push air into the lungs. Multiple tests came back negative for COVID.

Shortly after midnight on Jan. 7, the hospital called. Zook was in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator to help him breathe. But his blood pressure soon dropped and he was transferred to UC Irvine Medical Center. "On Friday I get a call, 'His kidneys are failing. He needs to be on dialysis. If not, he could die — but there's also a chance he might have a heart attack or stroke on dialysis because his blood pressure is so low,' " Rochelle Zook said.

By 4 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, Zook had gone "code blue" twice and was snatched back from the brink of death. There was a third code blue in the afternoon. "They said if he went code blue a fourth time, he'd have brain damage and be a vegetable if he survives," Rochelle Zook said.
Zook died later that day, the paper said.

'We are not blaming any pharmaceutical company'
"We are not blaming any pharmaceutical company," Rochelle Zook told the Register. "My husband loved what he did. He worked in hospitals for 36 1/2 years. He believed in vaccines. I'm sure he would take that vaccine again, and he'd want the public to take it. But when someone gets symptoms 2 1/2 hours after a vaccine, that's a reaction. What else could have happened? We would like the public to know what happened to Tim, so he didn't die in vain. Severe reactions are rare. In reality, COVID is a much more deadly force than reactions from the potential vaccine itself. The message is, be safe, take the vaccine — but the officials need to do more research. We need to know the cause. The vaccines need to be as safe as possible. Every life matters."

Zook's widow also told the paper he had high blood pressure, but that for years it had been controlled with medication. Zook was slightly overweight but healthy, the Register added.

"He had never been hospitalized," Rochelle Zook told the paper. "He'd get a cold and be over it two days later. The flu, and be over it three days later."

More from the Register:

His death has been reported to the national Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, run by the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control. The Orange County coroner has said the cause of death is inconclusive for now, and further toxicology testing will take months.

"The family just wants closure," said Zook's cousin, Ken Polanco of Los Angeles. " 'Inconclusive' is not closure. The family wants the pharmaceutical companies to do more research — if there's some sort of DNA that doesn't work with this vaccine, if episodes like this can be prevented, they need to do what they can to pin that down." [...]

The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System — which officials caution is a "passive surveillance system" and represents unverified reports of health events that occur after vaccination — has gathered more than 130 reports of death after vaccine administration thus far in 2021. A total of 1,330 adverse reactions have been reported, while more than 23.5 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been administered.

Experts caution that drawing a causal line between vaccination and death is often very difficult to do. When millions of people are being vaccinated — more than 13 million have gotten the Pfizer vaccine as of Jan. 26, and more than 10.5 million have received the Moderna vaccine — some would die for any number of unrelated reasons, as a matter of pure statistics.
What did Pfizer have to say?
A Pfizer-BioNTech spokesman told the paper that pharmaceutical company is aware of Zook's death and is thoroughly reviewing the matter.
"Our immediate thoughts are with the bereaved family," the company said in an emailed statement, the Register reported. "We closely monitor all such events and collect relevant information to share with global regulatory authorities. Based on ongoing safety reviews performed by Pfizer, BioNTech and health authorities, [the vaccine] retains a positive benefit-risk profile for the prevention of COVID-19 infections. Serious adverse events, including deaths that are unrelated to the vaccine, are unfortunately likely to occur at a similar rate as they would in the general population."
The Orange County coroner said it has an open death investigation for Zook and will be conducting more tests as part of its autopsy protocol, spokeswoman Carrie Braun told the paper, adding that the coroner's office will use its findings to issue a final determination concerning the cause and manner of death.
"If it's determined there may be a correlation to the vaccine, we will immediately notify the OC Health Care Agency," Braun added to the Register.

Bill Maher: Racism in America is not the huge problem that 'radicals' say it is. And Maher's black guest agrees.
Bill Maher, as he typically does, brought up a hot-button issue on his "Real Time" program Friday night by asking if racism in America is really the huge problem that "radicals" have been saying it is.What are the details? "So, am I wrong to not want to see race all the time? Because that's how I was brought up," Maher ."Like, that's what a good liberal does, is you don't see race. And now they switched it all around, and I'm bad because I don't see it all the time. And Is ubiquity even effective? To make people aware of this issue at every turn?"

With that, guest Kmele Foster — a popular podcaster who happens to be black....

NEWS JANUARY 24, 2021
Tucker Carlson reveals email sent to ICE officers after Biden's deportation order: 'Release them all, immediately'
'As of midnight tonight, stop all removals'
Fox News host Tucker Carlson revealed Friday that his team exclusively obtained an email showing how Immigration and Customs Enforcement was directed to carry out one of President Joe Biden's executive orders on immigration.

POLL: What issue concerns you most with the Biden/Harris administration?
What's the background?
After entering office on Wednesday, Biden signed numerous executive orders, many of which reversed the policies of his predecessor, now-former President Donald Trump.

One of the executive orders enacted "a 100-day pause on deportations for some undocumented immigrants," according to the Texas Tribune.

More from the Texas Tribune:

The pause in deportations, which begins Friday, is part of a review and reset of enforcement policies within Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agencies as the Biden administration "develops its final priorities," according to a DHS statement.

The moratorium applies to "certain noncitizens ordered deported to ensure we have a fair and effective immigration enforcement system focused on protecting national security, border security, and public safety" according to the DHS. That category excludes any immigrant who is "suspected of terrorism or espionage, or otherwise poses a danger to the national security of the United States," those who entered after Nov. 1 and those who have voluntarily waived any rights to remain in the country, according to a DHS memo.
What did the email say?
Carlson said that his team obtained an internal email sent to ICE officers in Texas.

The email read, "As of midnight tonight, stop all removals. This includes Mexican bus runs, charter flights and commercial removals (until further notice) ... all cases are to be considered [no significant likelihood of removal in foreseeable future]."

"Release them all, immediately. No sponsor available is not acceptable any longer," the message added.

According to Carlson, the directive is the "result of the complete chaos" that resulted from Biden's sweeping executive order.

The official who sent the email noted that he was just "the messenger" explaining the directive. In other words, It wasn't his idea. It was Joe Biden's. Now, this email was news to us. The memorandum from the Biden administration to halt deportations did not call for people here illegally to be released from detention. So we made some calls, and we learned that the Department of Homeland Security is currently hammering out how to enact the memorandum. It does not specifically call for the instant release of all migrants in detention.

So what was this memo about? Just the result of the complete chaos that resulted when the incoming administration changed a policy this big on its first day without explaining what it means.

As TheBlaze reported, Biden is expected to introduce comprehensive immigration reform within the beginning months of his administration in a massive package that will include a "pathway to citizenship" for illegal immigrants.

Biden is also expected to reverse or roll back most of Trump's immigration policies.

Biden admin faced day one controversy over change to US ambassador to Israel Twitter account

The Biden administration on Wednesday stirred controversy on day one by temporarily changing the Twitter account for the U.S. Ambassador to Israel before reversing the change after a report from the Washington Free Beacon called attention to it.
POLL: What issue concerns you most with the Biden/Harris administration?
The Twitter account, which was most recently operated by former Ambassador David Friedman, was changed to read, "U.S. Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza," after Friedman vacated his office. The modified account drew heavy criticism from Republican lawmakers and others who thought that the change suggested the United States would not recognize Israeli control over the West Bank and Gaza amid the ongoing dispute between Israel and the Palestinians.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) was among the first lawmakers to speak out about the change, accusing Democrats of "hostility to Israel."

"The Biden Admin title change for the @USAmbIsrael shows the Democrats' hostility to Israel," Scott tweeted. "There is no country of West Bank or Gaza, only territories that Israel has been willing for decades to negotiate sovereignty over but has been met with only hostility and terrorism."

Rep. Michael McCaul (Texas), the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the change was "provocative."

"It's incredibly troubling the administration made this controversial move on Day One, [without] consulting [with] Congress. It also seems to fly in the face of comments made by Antony Blinken yesterday. I strongly urge the president to clarify this provocative move quickly," McCaul said.

Blinken, President Joe Biden's nominee for secretary of state, said during his confirmation hearing that the Biden administration would keep President Trump's policy of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and that there were no plans to move the U.S. Embassy from the holy city.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Israel told the Jerusalem Post that the change, which was quietly reversed, "was an inadvertent edit."

"This is not a policy change or indication of future policy change," she said.

The Trump administration's Middle East policy placed a strong emphasis on strengthening ties with Israel. In 2017, Trump became the first U.S. president to keep his campaign promise of moving the embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing the city as Israel's capital, a move that infuriated Palestinians who have long claimed the city as their own.

In 2019, Trump recognized Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights, overturning 52 years of U.S. foreign policy on the issue.

Going forward, Blinken's confirmation testimony suggested the Biden administration will not take immediate action to reverse Trump's policies, but did signal there will be some attempt to return to pre-Trump diplomatic normalcy.

"The only way to ensure Israel's future as a Jewish, democratic state and to give the Palestinians a state to which they are entitled is through the so-called two-state solution," Blinken said.
"Realistically it's hard to see near-term prospects for moving forward on that."

Donald Trump looking to form his own political party — the 'Patriot Party': Report
Interesting turn of events

 SARAH TAYLOR
Donald Trump has reportedly spoken to confidants and aides over the last several days about possibly forming his own political party, according to a Tuesday night report from the Wall Street Journal.

POLL: Should the Right embrace Conservatism or Populism to win future elections?
The outlet reports that the move comes on the heels of Trump feeling that Republicans abandoned him following the early January attack on the U.S. Capitol as well as the GOP members who voted in favor of a historic second impeachment.

What are the details?
The outlet, citing inside sources reportedly familiar with the matter, said that the president would like to call the party the "Patriot Party."

"Trump discussed the matter with several aides and other people close to him last week," the outlet reported. "The president said he would want to call the new party the 'Patriot Party,' the people said."

The Daily Wire reported that "top pro-Trump Republicans" close to the administration said that it was a "bad idea" and would effectively split the Republican Party so that it would be nearly impossible for Republicans or otherwise to defeat the Democratic Party in elections.

In a Tuesday farewell video, Trump said that his movement is "only just beginning."

"As I prepare to hand power over to a new administration at noon on Wednesday, I want you to know that the movement we started is only just beginning," he said. "There's never been anything like it. The belief that a nation must serve its citizens will not dwindle but instead only grow stronger by the day. As long as the American people hold in their hearts deep and devoted love of country, then there is nothing this nation cannot achieve."

In his final speech as president, Trump at Joint Base Andrews said, "We will be back in some form."

Parler CEO claims he has received death threats amid platform shutdown, rips Big Tech for kowtowing to Democrats
He said there was 'no prior warning'

 SARAH TAYLOR
Parler CEO John Matze said this week that he has been facing death threats in the days following his platform shutdown.

POLL: Can Americans still have meaningful conversations about politics on Twitter?
He also said that the de-platforming is nothing short of unconstitutional, and that technology companies like Amazon, Apple, and Google are kowtowing to Democrat demands.

What's a brief history here?
Between Friday and Saturday, Google and Apple removed Parler from its app stores.

A day later, Amazon Web Services suspended the social media network's web hosting abilities, citing the company's reported refusal to remove inciting content shared by its users, which it said ultimately resulted in contributing to last week's deadly riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Parler filed a lawsuit on Monday that accused Amazon Web Services of breaching its contract and the violation of an antitrust law over the move.

Amazon Web Services said in response that it warned the site about user posts repeatedly, but to no avail.

"People have acted on these calls: Parler was used to incite, organize, and coordinate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol," Amazon Web Services said Tuesday in its court filing on the suit.

What are the details?
According to a Tuesday report from Newsweek, Matze revealed that he heard through news headlines that Apple, Google, and Amazon all had a hand in shuttering his web application, prohibiting users from downloading, logging on, or even viewing the social media site.

Matze told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Monday that he is now receiving death threats.

"People are threatening my life," he said. "I can't go home tonight. This is really a lot. This is not just our civil liberties. [Big Tech] can shut down a billion-dollar company, half-a-billion dollar company, overnight."

He did not specify the threats he purportedly received.

According to the outlet, Matze also said that he never thought the tech giants would actually shut down such a site.

"I've theorized about it, we've definitely theorized about it," he said. "You just never think it will happen though. What's really interesting is that they all did it on the same day, those three, without any prior warning."

He added that there is varying reactions to the site's shutdown, but there are many people who are "egging it on and cheering."

"I have seen a lot of people say this is scary, but I've seen a lot of people who are participating in the five minutes of hate and egging it on and cheering," Matze said. "It is disgusting."

A spokesperson for Google told the outlet that the app will remain absent from the Google Play store until the application addresses the speech issues.

"We're aware of continued posting in the Parler app that seeks to incite ongoing violence in the U.S.," the statement began. "We recognize that there can be reasonable debate about content policies, and that it can be difficult for apps to immediately remove all violative content, but for us to distribute an app through Google Play we do require that apps implement robust moderation for egregious content."

The statement continued, "In light of this ongoing and urgent public safety threat, we are suspending the app's listings from the Play Store until it addresses these issues."

Matze said that he believes the site will be operational again "one day."

"We will be back up eventually because we're not going to give up," he insisted. "But soon is difficult. I thought immediately, 'No problem, I'll call up a new vendor.' We call up the vendor, we're all good to go, and then right at the last second, 'Sorry, somebody said something and we can't host you. 'Bye.' And it's been that one after another since then. Right at the last minute they just bail. We're going to do it. We're going to be back online one day, and hopefully soon, as soon as possible. But this is a real challenge. We have to build our own infrastructure, our own everything, in order to do it."

In an interview published Tuesday, Matze said that the suspension is nothing short of unconstitutional.

"I think it's sick," he said. "That's not what the Constitution said. That's not what the Constitution stands for, banning 10-plus million US voters from the internet, barring people from free speech."

He also said that tech companies are simply placating Democrats who are looking for a finger to point after the Capitol riots.

Fox News reported, "[Rep. Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), recently urged Apple and Google to take action against Parler, in a tweet the leader of the so-called 'Squad' of progressives sent to her 11.4 million followers. Ocasio-Cortez isn't alone. Many people on the left have made similar complaints."

Of the complaints, Matze said, "Frankly, I would call it evil, because my definition of evil is 'forcing your will upon others.' If you don't like what I have to say, you can disagree with me, but you cannot take vindictive action against me without being evil."

Parler, the social media alternative to Twitter, has reportedly found web hosting refuge after the platform was booted from Amazon's web hosting services.

POLL: Will the Democrats be successful with their second attempt to impeach President Trump?
What's the background?
After the deadly riots at the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday, Parler became a central target of Big Tech over allegations that it was hosting content that helped incite the violence.

Parler was eventually kicked from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, meaning the app is unavailable for download on the two most widely used smartphone operating systems. Amazon Web Services then suspended web hosting service Sunday. All three companies claimed Parler did not sufficiently moderate content posted to its platform.

Parler CEO John Matze denounced the decisions as a "coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the market place."

'We are the closest thing to competition Facebook or Twitter has seen in many years. I believe Amazon, Google, Apple worked together to try and ensure they don't have competition," he said on Parler late Saturday.

What's happening now?
Although Parler is not yet back online, the company registered its domain and server with internet solutions company Epik, which Vice described as the "the internet savior of the far-right" because it also hosts Gab, another alternative to social media platforms operated by Big Tech.

After news broke that Parler had registered with Epik, the company released a statement saying that it has "had no contact or discussions with Parler in any form regarding our organization becoming their registrar or hosting provider."

"From our understanding, Parler was working on satisfying the requested terms placed upon them by various elements of their supply chain, and to date, no communication has been received by them for discussion of future service provision," Robert Davis, senior vice president of communications at Epik, said in a lengthy statement.

Reading between the lines, it appears that Parler purchased services from Epik — which WHOIS data confirms — like any marketplace customer can do, not that either company entered into an agreement to host Parler's platform.

Epik's statement defended Parler, echoing Matze's assertion that Parler has been unfairly targeted.

[W]hen it comes to Parler, it is clear that there is an artificial standard that many now want to apply. The staggering size of Twitter and Facebook alone, have made real change or accountability almost impossible, as the political interests and objectives of their own executives end up creating an undeniable double standard for both policing and enforcement. Over the last year, the effects of this were felt by millions of people, already kept in fear, as our nation was met by unprecedented waves of violence on life and property.
Anything else?
While it's not yet clear when Parler will be operational again, the company announced Monday that it is suing Amazon for antitrust violations, breach of contract, and unlawful business interference.

The company is also asking that a judge require Amazon to reinstate Parler's service as the litigation makes its way through the court system.

President Trump breaks silence, says new impeachment probe is a 'witch hunt' and refuses to resign: Dems courting 'tremendous danger'
Strong words
 SARAH TAYLOR
President Donald Trump on Tuesday broke his silence after last Wednesday's deadly riots at the U.S. Capitol and said that he has no intention of resigning — and that Democrats are courting "tremendous danger" by attempting a second impeachment.

POLL: Will the Democrats be successful with their second attempt to impeach President Trump?
The president also defended the speech he made immediately preceding the riots, saying that many people believed his remarks were "totally appropriate."

What are the details?
Trump made the remarks — his first since Wednesday's riots — while boarding Marine One as he prepared to go on a trip to Alamo, Texas, in order to inspect the U.S.'s southern border wall.

"If you read my speech — and many people have done it, and I've seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television — it has been analyzed, and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate," he insisted. "They've analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph, my final sentence, and everybody to a T thought it was totally appropriate."
