The distinction between hating Jews and hating Israel is bogus.
(JNS) Antisemitism is a rotten term for the “longest hatred” that targets the Jewish people. For a start, there is no such thing as “semitism” to be “anti.”
The word “antisemitism” was invented by a 19th-century Jew-hater, Wilhelm Marr, who wanted to invest this prejudice with the spurious characteristic of race in order to appeal to a society that increasingly defined itself in scientific terms.
Today, with Jew-hatred having reached unprecedented global levels, the inadequacies of “antisemitism” are becoming ever more manifest. Many wrongly believe that it’s just another form of racism. Few understand that it’s a uniquely paranoid, deranged and murderous mindset.
Because Judaism and the Jews are so poorly understood, few recognize that this unique people is victimized by a unique prejudice. And few acknowledge that the prejudice changes shape as societies change.
Used for the sake of convenience, “antisemitism” fosters further misunderstanding over the issue of Israel. People assume that prejudice against the Jewish people is against Jews as people. Few understand that Judaism isn’t a private confessional faith as the West understands religion to be.
They don’t realize that Jewish religious identity is rooted in the Land of Israel, where the Jews were historically the only people for whom it was ever their national kingdom. So they fail to grasp that Israel is at the very heart of Judaism. Denouncing the right of the Jews to the land is to attack Judaism itself.
But because “antisemitism” is associated with bigotry against Jews as people—and specifically with genocidal Nazism—people bridle when it’s used to describe their hostility to the State of Israel.
In other words, demonizing Jews and wishing they would disappear from the world may be beyond the pale, but demonizing Israel and wishing it would disappear from the world is just fine.
In his new book Israelophobia, published next week, Jake Wallis Simons takes this false distinction apart. The Jew-hatred that is now at epidemic levels throughout the West focuses overwhelmingly on the Jewish homeland
Simons, the editor of Britain’s Jewish Chronicle for which I write, does an outstanding job detailing the astounding tsunami of falsehoods, distortions, double standards and vilification engulfing Israel. Although atrocities and human rights abuses are taking place all over the world, this obsessional campaign is directed only at Israel, the sole democracy in the Middle East.
Israeli products are boycotted, its speakers hounded off campus, its businesses vandalized and its behavior singled out for lies, slander and double standards at the U.N. With the Palestinian cause having become the default position of progressives, the left makes common cause with the world’s worst dictatorships to attack a democracy that protects the rights of women, gays and other minorities.
Reasonable and reasoned criticism of Israel is, of course, entirely proper, just as with any other country. But this onslaught is neither reasonable nor reasoned. So why is Israel abused in this hallucinatory way?
To what he calls the newest form of the oldest hatred, Simons has given another name: Israelophobia. This, he writes, has three characteristics: Demonization, through which Israel is smeared as evil and a threat to the world; weaponization of social justice as a Trojan horse for hatred of Jews and their national home; and falsification, or parroting the lies of Nazi or Soviet propaganda.
All this has twisted the Western mind. As Simons observes, the sheer number of committed Israelophobes and the force of their disinformation, fueled by state-sponsored propaganda from Berlin to Tehran, has established a powerful gravitational pull sucking in ordinary people.
As a result, indefensible assumptions about Israel and the Jewish people—such as “Israelis behave like Nazis towards the Palestinians,” the “Jews have too much power” and “Jews exploit Holocaust victimhood for their own purposes”—have become mainstream and produced a kind of herd immunity to common sense.
Some of these falsehoods are positively surreal. Israel is seen as white even though a (small) majority of its Jews are dark-skinned. In 2018, Mark Winston Griffith, executive director for the Black Movement Center in Crown Heights, New York, suggested that Jews were being attacked on the streets of Brooklyn because Jewishness was “a form of almost hyper-whiteness.”
In 2020, after the killing of Gorge Floyd, synagogues and Jewish shops in America were vandalized and attacked with “free Palestine” and obscene anti-Israel graffiti, while in France, Black Lives Matter demonstrators screamed “dirty Jews,” echoing the same chants that filled French streets during the Dreyfus affair a century before.
“In short,” writes Simons, “whether Jews count as non-white, white to hyper- white, privileged or oppressed, colonizers or indigenous, has become a matter of Schrodinger’s Jew: The label shifts on the basis of the agenda. And when it comes to the social justice movement, that agenda is invariably hostile to [the Jews’] nation state.”
In fact, “social justice” and identity politics are positively rooted in anti-Jewish prejudice. The malicious stereotype of rich, powerful Jews oppressing the vulnerable has been embedded in the left since Marx.
“Intersectional” identity politics, in which groups use spurious claims of victimization to gain power over other groups, patterns itself on claims of antisemitism that social justice warriors believe Jews deploy to mask their own misdeeds. Victim culture is thus founded upon anti-Jewish prejudice and its fake claims are exposed by real bigotry against Jews, which must therefore be denied.
Appallingly, the social justice agenda has been endorsed by a majority of American Jews. Simons takes bitter aim at Jewish progressives, for whom, he caustically observes, the Israelification of antisemitism must be a relief. They gain acceptance on the left through “auto-denunciation,” adopting the left’s default Israelophobic narrative while holding their Jewish heads high.
The question is why this supremely perverse onslaught against Israel is happening. Most obviously, it is a product of the left’s current stance against colonialism, imperialism and racism, which is associated with Israel simply because “intersectionality” promotes the monstrous charge that Jews are white-skinned, capitalist oppressors.
And, of course, there’s the vital role of the media in promoting Palestinian Arab lies and distortions as the truth, demonizing Israel by omitting to report Palestinian Arab attacks on Israelis and focusing only on Israeli strikes in response. The media thus present Israel as a wanton and indiscriminate killer, even though its armed forces do more to safeguard civilian lives when it carries out counter-terror operations against its enemies than any other army in the world.
The most powerful passages in Simons’s book demonstrate how both Nazism and the Soviet Union further weaponized antisemitism against Israel. The Soviet Union, which used anti-Zionism to weaken the West by driving wedges and sowing discord, disseminated staggering amounts of anti-Jewish and anti-Israel propaganda, depicting Judaism as a vicious and inhuman religion that had spawned “fascist Zionism.” This malevolent narrative is now parroted by the left.
In the 1930s and 1940s, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, turned Palestine’s Arabs into Hitler’s forces in the Middle East committed to the genocide of the Jews.
This linkage continues to influence attitudes in the Arab world. Nazi imagery of Jews as spiders, dogs, octopuses, snakes and bloodsuckers remains widespread in Palestinian and Arab media, while the Mufti is the self-professed hero of Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas.
As the American historian Jeffrey Herf has observed, this association has poisoned Western universities and “aligned the western left with the afterlife of Hitler’s Nazi party and its larger designs for the Middle East.”
The West’s historic Jew-hatred and current unhinged animus against Israel are joined at the hip. By using a new word to reflect this, and through careful and detailed research, Jake Wallis Simons has delivered a powerful blow against the big lie through which the Western left tries to wash from its hands an indelible stain.

Whether or not you like Donald Trump as a person, he definitely is smart and aware of the world. He had many brilliant policies as president, and even before he was president, he was very in tune with what was happening.
Trump felt like something was going to happen. And sadly, he was right. Could 9/11 have been stopped beforehand? Who knows. G-d controls the world – not humans. But it is definitely noteworthy that former president Donald Trump was so aware of worldly affairs that he knew something was coming.
The administration in charge of the US now is the opposite. Biden and his team of those trying to run America are so unaware of reality. They have no idea which way is left and which way is right. It’s actually terrifying to see. A country that is a world superpower and looked up to by so many has been turned into a fool by the Biden administration.
People are craving someone good to lead the country. Whether that someone is Trump or a different candidate, Americans are done being led by an administration that is bringing the country down. A president might not be able to predict something like 9/11, but they should be informed and awake enough to see what’s right in front of them. (JNS) My mother taught me you’re not supposed to call people dumb, but if I were going to produce a documentary on the State Department’s Middle East policy, I would title it “Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest.” Whenever you think the secretary of state can’t be any more clueless, he proves you wrong.
The latest example is Antony Blinken’s remarks on a podcast, where he made the usual robotic statements about the necessity of achieving a two-state solution. In his nearly three years in office, he has not outlined a plan for accomplishing his phantasmagorical goal.
Blinken’s most recent remarks came after the man he considers the Palestinians’ peace negotiator, Mahmoud Abbas, went on one of his many anti-Semitic rants. In case you missed it, he said: “They say that Hitler killed the Jews for being Jews and that Europe hated the Jews because they were Jews. No. It was clearly explained that they fought them because of their social role and not their religion.” One of those roles was as a moneylender.
He also resurrected a Palestinian propaganda canard: “The truth that we should spread to the world is that European Jews are not Semites. They have nothing to do with Semitism,” and are descendants of the Khazars.
His remarks should not have surprised anyone since he was first identified as an antisemite when his doctoral thesis denying the Holocaust was published in 1984.
Other members of the peacemaker’s party defended Abbas and called an open letter signed by more than 100 Palestinian academics, activists and artists denouncing his remarks a “statement of shame.”
Deborah Lipstadt, the special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield condemned Abbas, but Blinken was silent. The day before the remarks were circulated, Blinken spoke with Abbas and reiterated U.S. support for a two-state solution. And, of course, the administration resumed aid to the Palestinians, making American taxpayers underwriters for Abbas’s “pay-for-slay” policy. The funding also helps the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) continue to create refugees.

The last three years have been a sad display of US non-leadership on the world stage. Outside of the Ukraine-Russia war, it will be very hard for Joe Biden or any Democrat candidate to defend the Biden administration’s record. Afghanistan was an unmitigated disaster. The images of people running after the US airplanes driving off the runway has left a lasting impression on the entire world. But most of America has long moved on from their concerns about the Afghanistan debacle. The current foreign policy issues are Russia, China, and concerns of a war in the South Pacific over Taiwan.
The issue of US involvement in a conflict in the South Pacific has brought out different approaches, just like the issue of Russia’s attack on Ukraine has revealed different approaches. Interestingly, this is not one of those issues where Republicans and Democrats split on the matter.
Many Democrats are foreign policy doves who shy away from most foreign involvement in wars, such as Afghanistan and Iraq. But Joe Biden over the years and others have represented the moderate wing of the party. They are more in line with what most of America is looking for – a modest involvement in foreign conflagrations, with massive amounts of financial support in order to avoid sending boots on the ground.
On the Republican side, the views range from the foreign policy hawks looking for US leadership on the world stage, to more isolationist-oriented approaches who balk at American involvement in most every war. Donald Trump has been a strong proponent of the latter approach. Surprisingly, Donald Trump was very effective on the world stage. He did indeed attack Iran’s head of the military in order to send a powerful signal to Iran that America will not hesitate to act when it decides to. And he dropped a massive bomb early in his administration with the clear intention of making it clear who is in charge.
But an attack by China on Taiwan would be a whole different story. Would America be willing to risk entering the fray in a battle against Taiwan? It seems today that both Democrats and Republicans would look for any way of NOT getting involved. So, massive shiploads of weapons would probably be sent to Taiwan, Australia and Japan in order to keep America out of the fray. Then America would probably organize a world-wide sanction action on China. China would probably be happy if that were to occur. Actually, China’s biggest concern is probably internal opposition. But a worldwide clamp-down on China would probably have too many holes in it in order for it to be effective. Too much of the world – including the United States – is too dependent on China for vital goods such as pharmaceuticals. The ships and trains will never stop supplying goods.
The China question will continue to loom large in the future years. Whoever sits in the Oval Office may very well have to deal with this monumental issue which is only growing from year to year.

There is no contradiction between Jewish and democratic. It is post-Zionism—not Zionism—that guarantees tyranny.
(JNS) Last Saturday, Politico reported that Trident DMG, a top Washington, D.C., public-relations firm is running a PR campaign in the United States for the Israeli left’s political war against the Netanyahu government and its voters. It was hired by Blue and White Future, the Israeli NGO run by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s cronies, billionaire Orni Petruschka, Gilad Sher and Eran Schwartz. The NGO serves as the Politburo and banker for the left’s billion-shekel demonization campaign.
On Sunday, they began a campaign in New York geared towards undermining Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit the United States next week. The main event of Netanyahu’s trip will be his speech at the U.N. General Assembly. A 12-story banner ad on Sunday was projected on the U.N. building. It read: “Don’t Believe Crime Minister Netanyahu.”
Next week, Blue and White Future’s subsidiary, the Kaplan Force will picket, disrupt, heckle and otherwise seek to ruin every event in New York where Netanyahu is set to participate. They intend to demonstrate outside his hotel, the United Nations building, the Israeli Consulate, and every home, office and thoroughfare that hosts the prime minister of the State of Israel.
For $20,000, activists can have coffee with Shikma Bressler, Barak’s pit bull in the demonization riots. Bressler is the Passionara of the “Crime Minister” and Kaplan Force brigades. The New York Times crowned her a cross between Golda Meir, Robert Oppenheimer and Barbie.
Last Saturday, Bressler said that no one should even think of trying to reach a compromise on judicial reform—or anything at all—with the government and its supporters because in Bressler’s words, “It’s forbidden to speak to Nazis, Jews or not.”
Bressler’s statement blends Holocaust denial with the demonization of Jews as Nazis. It is a textbook example of contemporary anti-Semitism. There’s a lot of that going around in the elite circles she travels in.
Last week, former Mossad director Tamir Pardo threw a half-century of Israeli public diplomacy efforts (and 3,500 years of truth) to the seven winds and speaking of Israel told the Associated Press, “There is an apartheid state here.”
Well, no. And calling Israel an apartheid state is not only a slander, it is also a textbook case of anti-Semitic demonization of the Jewish state. Both in Pardo’s and Bressler’s cases, these statements are made for the explicit purpose of demonizing the government and the majority of Israeli Jews who dared to vote for it.
The consequences of their actions are already being felt abroad. Barak, Pardo, Bressler and their elitist comrades have seized the reins of the BDS campaign that has made participation in public life all but impossible for pro-Israel Jewish students on campuses across America.
Why quote Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (R-N.Y.) or Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan when you can quote a former Mossad director or Israeli Barbie? Their actions demoralize and endanger American Jews and Jews throughout the Diaspora.
What is driving their urge to destroy Israel’s international position, drive Israeli society apart and contribute to the most politically powerful anti-Semitic force in the world?
This past year, we reached the denouement of two revolutions Israel’s leftist elite initiated thirty years ago. The first revolution—the Oslo revolution—was ideological and strategic. The second revolution—the judicial revolution—was constitutional. Both were about securing the left’s preeminent position in Israeli society even as it lost the support of the majority of Israelis. In other words, both revolutions were inherently anti-democratic, and indeed, in the intervening decades, the public rejected both revolutions, but they were maintained through the infrastructures of the state institutions and defended by the Israeli Supreme Court, which the left controls.
The Oslo revolution
This week, we marked the 30th anniversary of Oslo’s initiation at the White House on Sept. 13, 1993. Oslo was an assault on the most basic foundations of the Jewish state—security and Zionism.
On the security front, Oslo was predicated on the fraud that the PLO—the archetypical modern terrorist organization—had abandoned terrorism. Oslo asserted the PLO had become a credible, responsible actor. Indeed, it was a moral actor.
On the Zionist front, Oslo’s assertion that the PLO is a moral actor is based on its deeper assertion—that Israel is an immoral actor. The basic idea of Oslo is that the only reason there is a Palestinian conflict with Israel is because Israel controls Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem (and controlled Gaza until 2005). Until Oslo, Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria were recognized by all Israelis from across the political spectrum as the cradle of Jewish civilization, religion and history. Control of Gaza was widely recognized and critical to Israel’s security.
Before Oslo, Israelis on the left argued that Israel should be willing to make limited concessions on its control over these areas for peace, despite its national and legal rights to them. But because Oslo asserted that the PLO is a moral agent and Israel is immoral, from 1993 on, the left was radicalized. Israelis who maintained faith with previously consensus views that Israel is moral and has a right to control those areas were demonized as “enemies of peace” and “right-wing extremists.”
The strategic reality Oslo induced was one of continuous chaos and insecurity. By arming and empowering a terror group in Israel’s heartland, Oslo ensured that Israel would be continuously beset by terrorist violence and so destroyed Zionism’s foundational belief that through sovereignty, Jews would ensure their collective security.
To protect and maintain Oslo’s strategic environment despite the public’s rejection of it, Israel’s leftist elites demonized Oslo’s opponents and blamed them for the PLO’s continued terrorism. Their efforts set the conditions for Israel’s calamitous decision to withdraw all IDF forces from Gaza and expel all Israeli Jewish residents of Gaza and Northern Samaria in August 2005.
Throughout 2004 and 2005, the media and leftist activists subjected the Jews of Gaza and the “settlers” as a collective, and their supporters to the most powerful campaign of demonization and dehumanization Israel had experienced until then. The Supreme Court and Justice Ministry were full participants in the campaign. As they were subjected to continuous slander as “fascists” and “theocrats,” “war-mongers” and would-be murderers, the civil and legal rights of opponents of the expulsions—not to mention the property rights of the Jewish residents of Gaza and Northern Samaria—were trampled.
In the event, as anticipated, immediately after the expulsions and the withdrawal in August 2005, a terror state emerged in Gaza, capable of deploying missiles against nearly every point in Israel. The failure of the expulsions and withdrawal, which were simply a means to repackage Oslo, made the left even more unpopular. So, it changed the focus of its campaign against the majority.
Foreign-funded far-left NGOs massively expanded their lawfare and propaganda operations. Their job was to wage a continuous campaign against the legitimacy of Israel’s presence in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, and its sovereignty over united Jerusalem. From 2005 until last year, the NGO war against Israel blocked nearly every effort by Israel’s elected leaders to walk away from the Oslo fraud.
The Supreme Court, dominated by the Oslo camp, became the central arena of the NGO war on behalf of Oslo, and its strategic and ideological foundations.
As the public and their elected representatives began realizing what was happening, the camp for judicial reform grew. In response, the two revolutions of the 1990s became one.
The judicial revolution
This brings us to the second revolution of the 1990s—the judicial revolution. Former Supreme Court president Aharon Barak’s revolution entailed the seizure of the legislative power of the Knesset and the executive powers of the government through judicial fiat. The Left’s control over the Court was institutionalized by installing a permanent majority of Barak’s disciples on the Judicial Selection Committee.
Barak predicated his power grab on the false assertion that there is a tension between Israel’s Jewish national identity and democracy. Barak posited the existence of an “enlightened public,” whose values and views are embodied in the court. From these two assertions, Barak explained that when democracy and Israel’s Jewish identity come into conflict, “the views of the enlightened public in Israel,” need to decide the proper balance between them.
Until Barak’s assertion, rarely was the notion that there is a contradiction between the two raised because there is no contradiction between Jewish and democratic. But if you ascribe to Oslo’s assumptions that Israel is the immoral actor and the PLO is the moral actor, then you will also arrive at the conclusion that Zionism, at a minimum, has a contentious relationship with democracy.
Some 3,500 years of Jewish history and 75 years of Israeli Jewish history expose the fraud of Oslo’s assertion of Israeli immorality. And 30 years of Palestinian terror and anti-Semitism exposed as a fraud the claim that the PLO is a moral actor. Just so, the Supreme Court’s effort this month to crown itself Israel’s sovereign with unlimited powers, including the power to overturn the results of elections, puts paid the notion that Barak and his followers are guardians of Israeli democracy.
They are its executioners.
The convergence of the Oslo revolution with the judicial revolution in the court and on the streets makes clear that the only way for Israel to remain a democracy is for it to remain a Jewish state.
Ehud Barak’s crony, leftist billionaire Kobi Richter, is one of the financiers of the left’s political war. In recent weeks he’s also been a wellspring of information about its worldview. Last month, he told Israel Radio that the leftist elites will win because they are more powerful than the government. “We are the military power. The economic power is ours!” he proclaimed.
This week, Richter explained that the problem with Israel’s Jews is that most of them are “nationalist.” The left, he said, will solve the problem of Jewish nationalism by joining forces with the Arab parties, who reject Israel’s right to exist and support terrorism.
The majority of the Zionist left opposed the hare-brained scheme of withdrawing from Gaza in 2003. But the incitement campaigns of 2004-05 gave the Oslo left a significant boost. Likewise, until recently, the overwhelming majority of leftists never questioned the basic premise of Zionism.
Aharon Barak and Ehud Barak are right about one thing: The Declaration of Independence is the most important document in Israel’s political history. But as David Ben-Gurion made clear in a 1950 speech before the Knesset, their claim that the declaration justifies their effort to transform Israel into a post-Zionist oligarchy is utterly false.
Ben-Gurion said that the declaration didn’t seek unity of values. It sought broad consensus. That is why the term “Jewish state” appears in the text repeatedly, but the “God of Israel” is replaced by the more inclusive “Rock of Israel.”
Ben-Gurion said: “All the parties sitting in this house signed the declaration—from the Communists to Agudat Israel. Unity that binds like this doesn’t happen every day, and it shouldn’t be minimized.”
It is my prayer for the coming year that in the weeks and months before us, the Zionist left remembers the message of that declaration. There is no contradiction between Jewish and democratic. It is post-Zionism—not Zionism—that guarantees tyranny.
May they also remember that their brothers and sisters on the right are not their enemies but their partners in a common destiny.

The failure of the expulsions and withdrawal, which were simply a means to repackage Oslo, made the left even more unpopular. So, it changed the focus of its campaign against the majority.
Foreign-funded far-left NGOs massively expanded their lawfare and propaganda operations. Their job was to wage a continuous campaign against the legitimacy of Israel’s presence in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, and its sovereignty over united Jerusalem. From 2005 until last year, the NGO war against Israel blocked nearly every effort by Israel’s elected leaders to walk away from the Oslo fraud.
The Supreme Court, dominated by the Oslo camp, became the central arena of the NGO war on behalf of Oslo, and its strategic and ideological foundations.
As the public and their elected representatives began realizing what was happening, the camp for judicial reform grew. In response, the two revolutions of the 1990s became one.
The judicial revolution
This brings us to the second revolution of the 1990s—the judicial revolution. Former Supreme Court president Aharon Barak’s revolution entailed the seizure of the legislative power of the Knesset and the executive powers of the government through judicial fiat. The Left’s control over the Court was institutionalized by installing a permanent majority of Barak’s disciples on the Judicial Selection Committee.
Barak predicated his power grab on the false assertion that there is a tension between Israel’s Jewish national identity and democracy. Barak posited the existence of an “enlightened public,” whose values and views are embodied in the court. From these two assertions, Barak explained that when democracy and Israel’s Jewish identity come into conflict, “the views of the enlightened public in Israel,” need to decide the proper balance between them.
Until Barak’s assertion, rarely was the notion that there is a contradiction between the two raised because there is no contradiction between Jewish and democratic. But if you ascribe to Oslo’s assumptions that Israel is the immoral actor and the PLO is the moral actor, then you will also arrive at the conclusion that Zionism, at a minimum, has a contentious relationship with democracy.
Some 3,500 years of Jewish history and 75 years of Israeli Jewish history expose the fraud of Oslo’s assertion of Israeli immorality. And 30 years of Palestinian terror and anti-Semitism exposed as a fraud the claim that the PLO is a moral actor. Just so, the Supreme Court’s effort this month to crown itself Israel’s sovereign with unlimited powers, including the power to overturn the results of elections, puts paid the notion that Barak and his followers are guardians of Israeli democracy.
They are its executioners.
The convergence of the Oslo revolution with the judicial revolution in the court and on the streets makes clear that the only way for Israel to remain a democracy is for it to remain a Jewish state.
Ehud Barak’s crony, leftist billionaire Kobi Richter, is one of the financiers of the left’s political war. In recent weeks he’s also been a wellspring of information about its worldview. Last month, he told Israel Radio that the leftist elites will win because they are more powerful than the government. “We are the military power. The economic power is ours!” he proclaimed.
This week, Richter explained that the problem with Israel’s Jews is that most of them are “nationalist.” The left, he said, will solve the problem of Jewish nationalism by joining forces with the Arab parties, who reject Israel’s right to exist and support terrorism.
The majority of the Zionist left opposed the hare-brained scheme of withdrawing from Gaza in 2003. But the incitement campaigns of 2004-05 gave the Oslo left a significant boost. Likewise, until recently, the overwhelming majority of leftists never questioned the basic premise of Zionism.
Aharon Barak and Ehud Barak are right about one thing: The Declaration of Independence is the most important document in Israel’s political history. But as David Ben-Gurion made clear in a 1950 speech before the Knesset, their claim that the declaration justifies their effort to transform Israel into a post-Zionist oligarchy is utterly false.
Ben-Gurion said that the declaration didn’t seek unity of values. It sought broad consensus. That is why the term “Jewish state” appears in the text repeatedly, but the “God of Israel” is replaced by the more inclusive “Rock of Israel.”
Ben-Gurion said: “All the parties sitting in this house signed the declaration—from the Communists to Agudat Israel. Unity that binds like this doesn’t happen every day, and it shouldn’t be minimized.”
It is my prayer for the coming year that in the weeks and months before us, the Zionist left remembers the message of that declaration. There is no contradiction between Jewish and democratic. It is post-Zionism—not Zionism—that guarantees tyranny.

Everything indicates that in the aftermath of a series of terror attacks Israel still insists on seeing terror as transactional.
They attack us, we respond “the same amount” and the Israeli leadership is very careful as to where to apply this exact amount of response. Israel will never be free of terror if Israel responds on a transactional basis, just as Israel will never be free of rockets if the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister keep announcing how bad it will be for the terrorists if they send one more rocket, but it’s never “too bad”. This has been the approach of successive Israeli “leadership” for the past 20 years or more. Gallant just announced that “Anyone who attempts even the slightest harm will be brought to justice”. MK Shuster said “when necessary, we know how to attack”. For the terrorist these responses are all the same as Ariel Sharon’s statement upon ordering all Jews removed from Gaza against the warnings of those who insisted that once the Gaza communities were no longer there to target with rockets the terrorists would turn the rockets on the Gaza periphery. “Oy Vavoy to them if they shoot one rocket” he said and then nothing happened. “oy Vavoy” is an acceptable price to the terrorists, as is being “brought to justice” and “we know how to attack” if “when necessary” never happens. The Israeli leadership is leaving it up to the terrorists to decide whether the price is reasonable and worth paying and whether Israel is more talk or more walk. For Israel these responses are deadly.
As a sovereign nation, with the responsibility to protect the lives of its citizens, there is only one price option for each life – priceless.
Anything else shows not only a serious lack of self-respect but also a lack of belief in the sovereignty of Israel, the kind of lack of belief and self-respect that leads others to believe there is a lower price for the lives of Israelis and consider whether they are willing to pay it. This does not just put Israelis at risk, it costs lives, both of Israeli citizens and Israeli soldiers who are forced into dangerous situations that should not have arisen.
To be clear, when Israeli leadership does not appropriately respond to terror attacks, it costs Israeli lives.
Furthermore, anything less than priceless would be a price assigned by the terrorists within the terrorists’ value system, a pricing structure which includes community adulation and an eternal place in Islamic heaven. This is not a value system a civilized country can countenance. That reduces the options to two, Israel sets the price or allows the terrorists to set the price, the terrorists will choose to pay or not pay the assigned price. There are no other options.
Ah, you might say these are not the only factors in making this decision, this is far more complex. Firstly, the international media, the UN and almost every other nation will condemn Israel. That condemnation is the same whether the response is deemed to be proportional, an entirely undefined and unspecified term, or determined on a transactional basis, equally undefinable and as we have seen, Israel gets condemned either way. There are always those who will very authoritatively state that the response is not proportional and even among “friends”, like the USA who allow that Israel is allowed to defend itself, the statement is invariably balanced by the opposing voice from within the same source to placate Israel’s enemies. Even-handedness and all.
Secondly, while the negative response is always the same, regardless of the nature and the extent of Israel’s response to terror, the positive response varies only in one place, among the terrorists and the Islamic nations that surround Israel. As much as they are encouraged in their terror by Israel’s lack of response, they equally respect a response and grudgingly respect Israel when Israel responds appropriately, with strength. We have seen former enemies turn to Israel in feigned friendship as the result of an appropriate, self-respecting, response to terror and threats. Everyone understands strength and everyone wants to be on the side of the winner. However, Israel must understand this friendship will only last as long as the strength lasts because these strategic alliances are only based on common interests, not common goals.
Thirdly, it is entirely delusional to think that there will be a good result when the terrorists are left with any choice at all. Terrorists’ choices are not made within a value system that has any commonality with civilized society. If they chose terror how do we respond to the social construct that we can not wrap our heads around, one that promises eternal rewards for horrific acts? By responding to the culture, more than the terrorist. The terrorist, who is willing to be dead as a consequence of his action, is acting on behalf of that culture, not for himself. How many years has David Bedein written about the textbooks that call for killing Jews? How many years has Shomer HaChadash had to stand in for the absent police and army? How many infractions does Regavim have to point to before the court and the government will uphold Israeli Law? How many examples do I need to bring? Where is Israel’s self-respect?
Israel must unapologetically support Israel in the face of the corrupt PA leaders who created a culture of terror and use terror as power to achieve their goals in the absence of any real power. Remove them, remove their access to the tools of power – finance, media, water, electric power and mobility, take away their ability to pretend to have power through a terror infrastructure. Take away their ability to take away Israeli lives. Statistically, under the political leadership that promotes it, less than 10% of any society is willing to engage in violence, there rest are willing to follow. Absent terror leadership, ideally there will be no terrorists and ideally there will be peaceful community infrastructure. Practically, they must know that terrorism will reap no rewards, no eternal rewards, no community adulation and no celebration, because if there is terror there will be no community.
Similarly, Israel’s response must be such that the entire world understands that Israel values the life of every one of its citizens beyond limits. Just as saving one life is saving an entire world, taking one life is taking an entire world, and if you take a world from us we will take your world from you – all of it. This will be an unrestrained blow, the only option Israel has. It is not unfair, it is not unjust, it is simply the only response a civilized country can have to terrorism, and the terrorist and their entire community must know it, because then they will fear it, so that Israel need not fear terrorism.
Maybe the response to terror is transactional, and the prices, as Sadat commented before meeting Begin are very high. We are waiting to see if the Israeli government understands the value the lives of Lucy, Rina and Maia, and the life of Alessandro. Four worlds. Will the terrorists pay?

In its recent efforts to stop the government from enacting any judicial reform, even tiny, inconsequential changes like minimizing the reasonableness clause, Isreal’s Supreme Court is trying to legally turn part of Israel’s Declaration of Independence into a constitution!
That is just an insane concept that highlights the over reach of the court, and emphasizes the need for judicial reform so that, finally, the Supreme Court would also have checks and balances to ensure a functioning democracy.
Israel’s Declaration of Independence is our Declaration of Independence, which did exactly that – it declared our independence! It does not mention the word democracy and it does not contain the word “constitution” and there was no intent for it to be a constitution. Yet, today’s justices are using this hearing to de facto turn parts of it into a constitution, hence somehow making them all-powerful and giving them the legal power to cancel basic laws. That is a serious legal acrobatic maneuver.
In a Hebrew facebook post, it was actually highlighted that back in 1948 the Israeli Supreme Court already ruled that the Declaration of Independence cant be treated as a constitution, highlighting that today’s justices are acting against an existing Supreme Court ruling.

Because the Supreme Court has no such power. Barak is making legal acrobatics in the air and ignoring the 1948 ruling because he knows there is no legal way for the Supreme Court to cancel basic laws, since no authority was given, and it takes a lot of hocus pocus to create the reality that the Supreme Court does have the legal power to do so.

That condemnation is the same whether the response is deemed to be proportional, an entirely undefined and unspecified term, or determined on a transactional basis, equally undefinable and as we have seen, Israel gets condemned either way. There are always those who will very authoritatively state that the response is not proportional and even among “friends”, like the USA who allow that Israel is allowed to defend itself, the statement is invariably balanced by the opposing voice from within the same source to placate Israel’s enemies. Even-handedness and all.
Secondly, while the negative response is always the same, regardless of the nature and the extent of Israel’s response to terror, the positive response varies only in one place, among the terrorists and the Islamic nations that surround Israel. As much as they are encouraged in their terror by Israel’s lack of response, they equally respect a response and grudgingly respect Israel when Israel responds appropriately, with strength. We have seen former enemies turn to Israel in feigned friendship as the result of an appropriate, self-respecting, response to terror and threats. Everyone understands strength and everyone wants to be on the side of the winner. However, Israel must understand this friendship will only last as long as the strength lasts because these strategic alliances are only based on common interests, not common goals.
Thirdly, it is entirely delusional to think that there will be a good result when the terrorists are left with any choice at all. Terrorists’ choices are not made within a value system that has any commonality with civilized society. If they chose terror how do we respond to the social construct that we can not wrap our heads around, one that promises eternal rewards for horrific acts? By responding to the culture, more than the terrorist. The terrorist, who is willing to be dead as a consequence of his action, is acting on behalf of that culture, not for himself. How many years has David Bedein written about the textbooks that call for killing Jews? How many years has Shomer HaChadash had to stand in for the absent police and army? How many infractions does Regavim have to point to before the court and the government will uphold Israeli Law? How many examples do I need to bring? Where is Israel’s self-respect?
Israel must unapologetically support Israel in the face of the corrupt PA leaders who created a culture of terror and use terror as power to achieve their goals in the absence of any real power. Remove them, remove their access to the tools of power – finance, media, water, electric power and mobility, take away their ability to pretend to have power through a terror infrastructure. Take away their ability to take away Israeli lives. Statistically, under the political leadership that promotes it, less than 10% of any society is willing to engage in violence, there rest are willing to follow. Absent terror leadership, ideally there will be no terrorists and ideally there will be peaceful community infrastructure. Practically, they must know that terrorism will reap no rewards, no eternal rewards, no community adulation and no celebration, because if there is terror there will be no community.
Similarly, Israel’s response must be such that the entire world understands that Israel values the life of every one of its citizens beyond limits. Just as saving one life is saving an entire world, taking one life is taking an entire world, and if you take a world from us we will take your world from you – all of it. This will be an unrestrained blow, the only option Israel has. It is not unfair, it is not unjust, it is simply the only response a civilized country can have to terrorism, and the terrorist and their entire community must know it, because then they will fear it, so that Israel need not fear terrorism.
Maybe the response to terror is transactional, and the prices, as Sadat commented before meeting Begin are very high. We are waiting to see if the Israeli government understands the value the lives of Lucy, Rina and Maia, and the life of Alessandro. Four worlds. Will the terrorists pay?

In its recent efforts to stop the government from enacting any judicial reform, even tiny, inconsequential changes like minimizing the reasonableness clause, Isreal’s Supreme Court is trying to legally turn part of Israel’s Declaration of Independence into a constitution!
That is just an insane concept that highlights the over reach of the court, and emphasizes the need for judicial reform so that, finally, the Supreme Court would also have checks and balances to ensure a functioning democracy.
Israel’s Declaration of Independence is our Declaration of Independence, which did exactly that – it declared our independence! It does not mention the word democracy and it does not contain the word “constitution” and there was no intent for it to be a constitution. Yet, today’s justices are using this hearing to de facto turn parts of it into a constitution, hence somehow making them all-powerful and giving them the legal power to cancel basic laws. That is a serious legal acrobatic maneuver.
In a Hebrew facebook post, it was actually highlighted that back in 1948 the Israeli Supreme Court already ruled that the Declaration of Independence cant be treated as a constitution, highlighting that today’s justices are acting against an existing Supreme Court ruling.

The latest spin from the justice system, about how the Declaration of Independence really is Israel’s constitution, is making an impact, so it’s worth digging a little deeper: In truth, the one who stated that the Declaration of Independence has no constitutional validity is the Supreme Court, in one of the first rulings after the establishment of the state back in 1948:
This ruling was repeated over the years and made it clear – that the Declaration of Independence is Israel’s “I believe” document, but it is not a constitutional source.
In the recent Supreme Court session, the government’s representatives repeated this fundamental principle, that the Declaration of Independence is not a constitutional source. They did not invent anything new by saying this.
So why is it being discussed again by the Supreme Court? Because former Supreme Court justice Aharon Barak is today trying to help the opponents of the judicial reform (helping? or actually instructing the judges) to find the legal basis for the Supreme Court to cancel basic laws. He published an article two weeks ago explaining that the Declaration of Independence is the “will of the people” and therefore gives the Supreme Court the power to override basic laws.
How does he reconcile this with the Supreme Court ruling from 1948? he is not. Why? Because he has no way.
But wait, why does Barak need to make such a claim, which contradicts the 1948 ruling of the Supreme Court, in order to give Supreme Court the authority to cancel basic laws?
Because the Supreme Court has no such power. Barak is making legal acrobatics in the air and ignoring the 1948 ruling because he knows there is no legal way for the Supreme Court to cancel basic laws, since no authority was given, and it takes a lot of hocus pocus to create the reality that the Supreme Court does have the legal power to do so.

This mashup is too perfect. The way the children sing it with such fervor. You can see the passion in their eyes. You can feel their pure souls singing to G-d. Along with Hatikvah, this mashup has the words from the Passover Haggadah that the Jewish people read and relive at the Pesach Seder. Those words were made into a popular song called “Vehi She’amda.” The song does not have all the words from the passage in the Haggadah, but the words that are part of the song are “Vehi She’amda La’avoteinu Velanu Shelo Echad Bilvad Amad Aleinu Lechaloteinu V’HaKadosh Baruch Hu Matzilenu Miyadam.” The translation of that is: “And this (Hashem’s blessings and the Torah) is what kept our fathers and what keeps us surviving. Poland is already considered to be an up and coming power and now it has beefed up its defense spending to the point where its military is seen as the strongest in Europe.

This alliance has had severe consequences and will continue to have a negative impact on the West’s hegemonic rule over the world. Today’s threats by enemies have evolved from large tank and infantry formations to large-scale projectile attacks on cities.
(JNS) In its largest release of documents from the 1973 Yom Kippur War to date, the Israel State Archive has provided a new and painful reminder of the disastrous intelligence failure that predated the combined invasion of Israel by Egypt and Syria.
The war, its casualties and the ability of Israel’s adversaries at the time to surprise the Jewish state have left a multi-generational scar on the Israeli national psyche. On the other hand, the ability of the Israel Defense Forces to eventually repel the dual attack, overcome the shock, call reserves to the fronts and go on the offensive, ending the war some 60 miles from Cairo and 25 miles from Damascus, is a testament to the astonishing resilience and bravery of the soldiers and commanders of that time.
On the eve of the war, Israeli intelligence failed to accurately gauge enemy intentions despite multiple warning signs and underestimated the evolving capabilities of Egypt and Syria, such as their ability to use Soviet-supplied anti-aircraft and anti-armor missiles to rain destruction on Israeli forces. These tactics denied Israel the ability to move freely in the air and on the ground, representing lessons learned by Israel’s adversaries from their defeat in the 1967 Six-Day War.
As the newly-released archive documents show, in the hours leading up to Yom Kippur, on Oct. 5, 1973, a security discussion took place in Prime Minister Golda Meir’s office. The primary issues discussed were the evacuation of Soviet families from Syria and Egypt and the joint military exercise conducted by both nations. There was near consensus among those present that war was not imminent.
Eli Zeira, the head of Military Intelligence, who presented an overview of Egypt and Syria, summarized the findings by stating that “the assessment that the [enemy] preparedness primarily arises from fear of us, remains.” He further highlighted uncertainty about the ongoing Russian exercise, wondering about its purpose. IDF Chief of Staff David Elazar, known as “Dado,” shared a similar sentiment. “I still believe they aren’t going to attack; we have no concrete proof. Technically, they are capable of acting. I assume if they were going to attack, we would receive better indicators,” he said.
A week and a half before the outbreak of the war, Meir met with King Hussein of Jordan. He informed her that “from a very sensitive source, it has been made known that all preparations and plans related to a Syrian operation have been completed. The units have been in position for two days, including the Air Force and missiles.”
Notably absent from the meeting was the head of Mossad, Zvi Zamir. According to Zeira, Zamir urgently flew to London to meet “his friend,” apparently referring to Ashraf Marwan, a close associate of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat

Today’s threats by enemies have evolved from large tank and infantry formations to large-scale projectile attacks on cities.
(JNS) In its largest release of documents from the 1973 Yom Kippur War to date, the Israel State Archive has provided a new and painful reminder of the disastrous intelligence failure that predated the combined invasion of Israel by Egypt and Syria.
The war, its casualties and the ability of Israel’s adversaries at the time to surprise the Jewish state have left a multi-generational scar on the Israeli national psyche. On the other hand, the ability of the Israel Defense Forces to eventually repel the dual attack, overcome the shock, call reserves to the fronts and go on the offensive, ending the war some 60 miles from Cairo and 25 miles from Damascus, is a testament to the astonishing resilience and bravery of the soldiers and commanders of that time.
On the eve of the war, Israeli intelligence failed to accurately gauge enemy intentions despite multiple warning signs and underestimated the evolving capabilities of Egypt and Syria, such as their ability to use Soviet-supplied anti-aircraft and anti-armor missiles to rain destruction on Israeli forces. These tactics denied Israel the ability to move freely in the air and on the ground, representing lessons learned by Israel’s adversaries from their defeat in the 1967 Six-Day War.
As the newly-released archive documents show, in the hours leading up to Yom Kippur, on Oct. 5, 1973, a security discussion took place in Prime Minister Golda Meir’s office. The primary issues discussed were the evacuation of Soviet families from Syria and Egypt and the joint military exercise conducted by both nations. There was near consensus among those present that war was not imminent.
Eli Zeira, the head of Military Intelligence, who presented an overview of Egypt and Syria, summarized the findings by stating that “the assessment that the [enemy] preparedness primarily arises from fear of us, remains.” He further highlighted uncertainty about the ongoing Russian exercise, wondering about its purpose. IDF Chief of Staff David Elazar, known as “Dado,” shared a similar sentiment. “I still believe they aren’t going to attack; we have no concrete proof. Technically, they are capable of acting. I assume if they were going to attack, we would receive better indicators,” he said.
A week and a half before the outbreak of the war, Meir met with King Hussein of Jordan. He informed her that “from a very sensitive source, it has been made known that all preparations and plans related to a Syrian operation have been completed. The units have been in position for two days, including the Air Force and missiles.”
Notably absent from the meeting was the head of Mossad, Zvi Zamir. According to Zeira, Zamir urgently flew to London to meet “his friend,” apparently referring to Ashraf Marwan, a close associate of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat

The left-wing today has completely shunned the ideas of liberalism and adopted cultural totalitarianism. Melanie Phillips says it so well and so eloquently. Reason, argument, discussion, and open-mindedness have been tossed out the window.
How did this happen and when did this happen? This was not the norm in the crazy 60’s. In the 70’s and 80’s, this was not the case either. It seems to have begun sometime in the 21st century. The political landscape was very volatile in the 60’s, between McCarthyism still being a force, civil rights marches on Washington, and race riots across the United States. But, there was no cancel culture even after a popular President, a Civil Rights Leader, and Presidential candidate were all assassinated. It was just a very emotionally charged atmosphere.
The Vietnam War pitted masses of youngsters against the leadership of the United States. But, even the opposition to the Vietnam protesters knew that the Vietnam War was not going well. The protesters had a point – even if they were extremists. And the protesters knew that Communism was indeed a threat that needed to be contained – just not via American lives in Vietnam. Each side knew that the other side had legitimate logic backing it up.
But today, young people – in the masses – are flocking towards hard to fathom values that are completely at odds with basic concepts of existence – such as the very existence of genders. And these ideas are not based on respecting the values of others, as anyone who thinks otherwise is repudiated and cancelled as a member of the Dark Ages.
Discussion and difference of opinion are not praised but tossed aside as negative phenomenon. What has really been thrown away is the placing of any concept of truth at the top of a pedestal of priorities. That is why Melanie argues that truth has become a right-wing concept. What a horrible tragedy for mankind.
Can this be reversed? Can the left-wing repudiate the obsessive focus on gender issues and woke concepts of reality? Today it seems hopeless. But the world does not only spin out of control in a negative fashion. Sometimes, concepts that were thought to have been gone from the world come back into fashion.
What is needed on the left is a big dose of some old-fashioned open-minded liberalism. Difference of opinion needs to be embraced. Striving towards truth needs to be a common goal among those who disagree. Recognition that no specific political persuasion can rule over the other needs to be the norm.
It is indeed a battle over the culture. The culture of basic decency.

How do these swords relate to the Arabs who claim they have a right to the land of Israel? Well, they don’t relate to them. The so-called “Palestinian” people have no rights to the land of Israel. This footage is extremely important. And this story is miraculous. Thousands of Jews were saved here instead of facing certain death. Seeing these US troops rescuing Jews is chilling. The Holocaust is not some made up story, as Holocaust deniers want you to believe. There are still survivors – living proof – that the Nazis brutally murdered six million Jews. There are photos, actual footage, and testimonies. We must continue to tell the stories of the survivors and of those who were savagely killed. We must share the photos, show the films, and educate about the truth of the atrocities the Nazis carried out. This story of rescuing Jews from the death train is just one of many stories that must be told and told again.
“Stunning never-before-seen footage of U.S. soldiers liberating a train of 2,500 Jewish prisoners headed for a Nazi death camp in the dying days of World War II has been unearthed by an American high school history teacher. Dubbed the ‘Miracle at Farsleben’, the rescue operation occurred on April 13, 1945, when a train carrying Jewish prisoners from Bergen-Belsen to Theresienstadt concentration camps was forced to stop near the village of Farsleben to avoid being caught in the crossfire of an artillery battle between U.S. and German forces. The SS officers in charge, facing the prospect of not completing their grim task, had been instructed to execute as many of their captives as possible. But the Nazi officers abandoned their posts and fled when an American jeep and tank arrived on the scene, undoubtedly saving all 2,500 prisoners from the bleak fate that befell some 6 million of their kin.
The newly discovered three-minute clip portrays the aftermath of the liberation, showing the gaunt and battered survivors, many of whom were dressed in torn clothes and suffering from lice infestations, experiencing varying degrees of relief, euphoria and complete exhaustion as they realize they are being rescued. The footage was filmed by one of the soldiers from the American Ninth Army, who happened to have a camera on hand. The newly revealed footage has brought to life the harrowing accounts of the soldiers who rescued the prisoners, and four survivors from the train have since identified themselves. Holocaust survivor Jacob Barzilai, 90, told Israeli media that he spotted his 12-year-old self and his mother and sister in the footage. He told Channel 12 that in the past he has seen ‘innumerable’ photos of the train’s liberation, but had never been able to locate himself or any of his family in the images. ‘It was inconceivable, incomprehensible, and I couldn’t breathe, that I found what I had looked for over years,’ he said.
George Gross, a tank commander present at the liberation, recalled: ‘Everyone looked like a skeleton, so starved, their faces sick. And there was something else. When they saw us, they began to laugh with joy, if you can call it laughter. It was more like an outburst of pure, almost hysterical relief.’
The significant find is credited to Matthew Rozell, a dedicated history teacher from New York, who has been researching the Holocaust for over three decades. His mission to engage his students led him to interview local veterans of World War II, one of whom shared the incredible story of finding the death train at Farsleben. The story piqued his interest and sent him down a path of years of research, during which Rozell painstakingly unearthed more and more information about the Miracle at Farsleben. His efforts culminated in a book, ‘A Train Near Magdeburg: A Teacher’s Journey into the Holocaust’, published in 2016, and a documentary series with ITV. The latest footage was found by a team at the US National Archives after Rozell received a tip-off from a museum associate who had seen a brief clip on a German documentary. Rozell expressed the importance of this discovery, describing the footage as another piece of evidence to undermine the narrative of Holocaust deniers. ‘I don’t want to say I am gratified or vindicated, because even without this footage, this is an incredible story. But to actually see it is another nail in the coffin of Holocaust denial, we hope,’ the teacher said.
The footage’s authenticity has been verified by renowned historians of the Second World War, who emphasized the emotional impact of the scenes captured on film. Guy Walters, one such historian, described it as ‘astonishing’ and highlighted how the expressions of the survivors tell a profound story of both pain and relief. The survivors themselves, not clad in prison uniforms, were from a section of Belsen reserved for individuals who the Nazis believed could have been used as leverage in negotiations with foreign governments. But although they were treated relatively better than those herded directly into death camps, these prisoners still endured considerable suffering, experiencing malnutrition and diseases like typhus as they were starved and crammed into cramped, filthy living quarters.”

Papua New Guinea honours the ‘God of Israel’ by opening an embassy in Jerusalem
Papua New Guinea this week opened its embassy in Jerusalem stating clearly that it was doing so to honour the ‘God of Israel’. In fact, the Christian leader of the country said you could not be a Christian without honouring the things God loves, and that includes recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The opening ceremony took place in Jerusalem on Tuesday with the leaders from both Papua New Guinea and Israel being part of the opening ceremony.
“Today is a milestone moment for my country Papua New Guinea,” Prime Minister James Marape said. “We are here to give respect to the people of Israel to the fullest.”
Marape was explicit in laying out the biblical motivation for the move, which makes Papua New Guinea the fifth country to open its embassy in Israel’s capital.
Papua New Guinea opened its embassy in Jerusalem “because of our shared heritage, acknowledging the creator God, the Yahweh God of Israel, the Yahweh God of Isaac and Abraham,” said Marape.
“You have been the great custodian of the moral values that were passed for humanity,” Marape said to Netanyahu.
“Many nations choose not to open their embassies in Jerusalem but we made the conscious choice. This has been the universal capital of the nation and people of Israel. For us to call ourselves Christians, paying respect to God will not be complete without recognizing that Jerusalem is the universal capital of the people and nation of Israel.”

(JNS) Colleges and universities are back for the Fall semester, but when it comes to the rising swells of antisemitism that have overtaken campus greens as of late, it’s never too early to issue report cards. Failing grades are nearly everywhere, with some of the top schools managing to attract the most fashionable Jew-haters.
In a woke minefield, disarming antisemitism is of very low priority. Another academic year and so many new accusations against Jews to learn. It’s positively exhilarating.
Take Princeton University. That’s where Albert Einstein ended up after fleeing the Nazis, occupying an office at a time when Jews were scarce on campus. Today, you don’t need to be an Einstein to teach there. This semester, Princeton is tarnishing its Ivy League credentials by offering a course titled, “The Healing Humanities—Decolonializing Trauma Studies from the Global South.” Listed on the course syllabus is a book called “The Right to Maim: Debility, Capacity and Disability.”
Yes, I know: Neither the course description nor the book title are written in any known language. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a friend of jargon and an enemy of grammar. The consequences of eroding academic standards are apparent everywhere.
But this curriculum word salad is rancid in yet another way. By assigning “The Right to Maim” to its students, the Princeton Humanities Department is endorsing a book, and the public pronouncements of its author, that charge the Israel Defense Forces with harvesting the organs of Palestinians and deliberately shooting to maim, and devising ways to stunt the growth, of Palestinian children.
Any proof for these defamatory assertions? No, not necessary on campuses where critical thinking is an elective these days, with citations and references optional. The author of the book was once asked whether she could supply empirical data substantiating her claims. She casually replied that her main goal was to get the attention of the reader. Well, at least she’s a good student of history, smart enough to know that scapegoating Jews never fails to attract a crowd—no matter the country, regardless of era.
Age-old blood libels are suddenly newfangled and repackaged for the Ivy League. The blood of Christian children as an essential ingredient in matzoh was always preposterous. It was time for an update. Maiming and deforming Palestinian children is much more believable. The Start-up Nation’s accolades for high-tech innovation apparently betrayed a less admirable sideline business: cornering the market on Palestinian organs.
Her book also popularizes the “pink-washing” canard: The safe haven the LGBTQ community enjoys in Israel—unlike the barbarism they experience in Arab and Muslim societies—is at the expense of Palestinian suffering. Sexual and gender equality is merely a diversionary smokescreen that masks Israel’s far more unsightly human rights abuses.
And then there’s the City University of New York Graduate Center’s (“CUNY”) unfortunate hiring of notorious antisemite Marc Lamont Hill. Remember him? Hill was fired from CNN in 2018 after delivering a speech at the United Nations where he invoked the genocidal slogan: “free Palestine from the river to the sea.” After that he managed to secure an endowed chair at Temple University before decamping for a larger urban and academic stage at CUNY. Give CUNY credit for landing an accomplished Jew-hater, and for its consistency. The law school made headlines just a few months ago after inviting a commencement speaker who spewed similar attacks against Israel, and against the NYPD.
These recent events at CUNY are all the more tragic given the long history of Jewish accomplishment at the city college system. Over a dozen Jewish graduates from CUNY were awarded Nobel prizes in medicine and science—including two women. Most colleges and universities in the United States have never produced a single one. CUNY was once a bastion of academic excellence and institutional integrity. Now it’s the home of mediocrity, and Marc Lamont Hill.
On the west coast, the University of California in Berkeley’s law school student association last year voted to ban Zionist speakers from appearing on campus—even if invited to speak about something other than Israel.
Unfortunately, the university is picking up where it left off—just last week six students vandalized a Jewish fraternity house by leaving mounds of shellfish outside the front door and tossed into an open window. At least the vandals got the laws of kashrut right. Red snapper don’t carry the same symbolic insult.
At both Princeton and CUNY, these acts of implicit, if not direct, antisemitism were immediately defended by calls for academic freedom and protection under the First Amendment. Would Princeton have acted differently had a Jewish professor assigned a book alleging that southern plantations served as winter resorts for vacationing African-Americans?
University officials at Berkeley are now claiming that the shellfish incident had nothing to do with antisemitism at all. Can it be that the littering of shrimp is yet another social pathology of the Bay Area?
There’s only one thing to be certain of: Antisemitism on campus never seems to graduate. A student can major in humanities and yet walk around thinking that Jews are inhuman. Hatred is that adaptable. It refuses to outgrow adolescence. Maturity, actually, can lead to more hardened hearts.
History, remarkably, shows that antisemitism has been welcomed everywhere—including places where Jews have never lived. It is practiced by young and old alike. And nowadays, whether in the workplace, town square, or college gathering spots, antisemitism is no longer confined to inner thoughts and dark shadows. It is being more openly embraced. On campus, it resonates with professors and willing pupils. It’s a woefully unacknowledged crisis. Jewish life on campus is devolving into a ceaseless hazing ritual—the Greeks opting for something more Germanic.
It feels as though I had written a similar essay a year ago. Turns out, I did.
Colleges are opening their doors while minds are simultaneously closing. Custodial duties are being forsaken. The life of the mind is in the hands of haters. For Jewish students, the Days of Awe are lately coinciding with days of dread.

The last three years have been a sad display of US non-leadership on the world stage. Outside of the Ukraine-Russia war, it will be very hard for Joe Biden or any Democrat candidate to defend the Biden administration’s record. Afghanistan was an unmitigated disaster. The images of people running after the US airplanes driving off the runway has left a lasting impression on the entire world. But most of America has long moved on from their concerns about the Afghanistan debacle. The current foreign policy issues are Russia, China, and concerns of a war in the South Pacific over Taiwan.

Hakeem Jeffries’s endorsement of Ilhan Omar will only further legitimize antisemitism in American life.
(JNS) The Democratic leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives has failed to stand up to antisemitism. In particular, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has endorsed antisemitic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for re-election.
“Rep. Omar has been elected by her constituents three times and has consistently stood up for them, including through her service on the House Budget Committee,” Jeffries stated. “As House Democratic leader, I vigorously endorse her reelection and stand with her as we battle extreme MAGA Republicans for the future of our nation.”
On July 18, the House voted to condemn both antisemitism and the claim that Israel is a racist and apartheid state. It passed 412-9 with Rep. Betsy McCollum (D-Minn.) voting present. Jeffries’s statement indicates that the House Democratic leadership will endorse all nine Democratic lawmakers who voted against the resolution.
Worse still, Mark Mellman, the president and CEO of the Democratic Majority for Israel, defended Jeffries’s endorsement of Omar while admitting that Omar has made antisemitic statements. Mellman justified Jeffries’s endorsement by saying it is customary to endorse all incumbents.
On March 7, 2019, the House of Representatives passed Resolution 183, which condemned antisemitism. It was initiated in response to antisemitic comments made by Omar and fellow congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
The text of the resolution stated that its purpose was to “ensure safety” for the Jewish people. It included the statement that “accusing Jews of being more loyal to Israel or to the Jewish community than to the U.S. constitutes antisemitism.”
This was prompted by Omar’s Feb. 27, 2019 categorization of supporters of a strong U.S.-Israel relationship as people who “push allegiance to a foreign country.”
Omar’s libel followed Tlaib’s tweet the previous month in which she criticized Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)’s anti-BDS efforts with the accusation: “They forgot what country they represent.” Rubio responded, “The ‘dual loyalty’ canard is a typical antisemite line.”
Neither Omar nor Tlaib has apologized for their antisemitic statements.
The congresswomen’s antisemitism goes much deeper than their antisemitic statements. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IRHA) ’s widely adopted definition of antisemitism includes the denial of Israel’s right to exist. Tlaib in particular has rejected this right and demands Israel be dismantled. By definition, this is antisemitic.
Moreover, both Omar and Tlaib support the BDS movement, which seeks to weaken and ultimately destroy Israel through economic, social and political means. One of the leaders of the movement is Omar Barghouti, who has publicly stated that Israel should never have been created.
Omar won her last primary by less than 2% of the vote. If Jeffries and the rest of the Democratic leadership oppose her re-election, she would likely lose. Jeffries’s statements show they have no intention of doing so.
The Republicans had a similar decision to make regarding former congressman Steve King, who made statements in support of white supremacy. Then-Minority Leader and current House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) rightly endorsed King’s primary challenger, Randy Feenstra. He also dropped King from all committees. King was not reelected.
In contrast, when a vote was taken to remove Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee—she was removed—every single House Democrat, including all Jewish members, voted to keep her on the immensely powerful committee.
A few years ago, former basketball star Kareem Abdul Jabbar bravely wrote about the “shocking lack of massive indignation” concerning antisemitic statements made by black athletes and celebrities. Thankfully, several of those who made such statements have since apologized. In contrast, Omar and Tlaib’s antisemitism has become acceptable in their party and thus in Congress.
Jabbar said, “It is not enough to have good intentions, because it’s the actual deeds—and words—which have the real impact.”
The Democratic House leadership, Mellman and his organization, and the Democratic Party as a whole have failed to do the actual deeds in the fight against antisemitism. Endorsing Omar and defending her and other congressional antisemites will only further legitimatize antisemitism in American life.

(JNS) The Democratic leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives has failed to stand up to antisemitism. In particular, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has endorsed antisemitic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for re-election.
“Rep. Omar has been elected by her constituents three times and has consistently stood up for them, including through her service on the House Budget Committee,” Jeffries stated. “As House Democratic leader, I vigorously endorse her reelection and stand with her as we battle extreme MAGA Republicans for the future of our nation.”
On July 18, the House voted to condemn both antisemitism and the claim that Israel is a racist and apartheid state. It passed 412-9 with Rep. Betsy McCollum (D-Minn.) voting present. Jeffries’s statement indicates that the House Democratic leadership will endorse all nine Democratic lawmakers who voted against the resolution.
Worse still, Mark Mellman, the president and CEO of the Democratic Majority for Israel, defended Jeffries’s endorsement of Omar while admitting that Omar has made antisemitic statements. Mellman justified Jeffries’s endorsement by saying it is customary to endorse all incumbents.
On March 7, 2019, the House of Representatives passed Resolution 183, which condemned antisemitism. It was initiated in response to antisemitic comments made by Omar and fellow congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
The text of the resolution stated that its purpose was to “ensure safety” for the Jewish people. It included the statement that “accusing Jews of being more loyal to Israel or to the Jewish community than to the U.S. constitutes antisemitism.”
This was prompted by Omar’s Feb. 27, 2019 categorization of supporters of a strong U.S.-Israel relationship as people who “push allegiance to a foreign country.”
Omar’s libel followed Tlaib’s tweet the previous month in which she criticized Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)’s anti-BDS efforts with the accusation: “They forgot what country they represent.” Rubio responded, “The ‘dual loyalty’ canard is a typical antisemite line.”
Neither Omar nor Tlaib has apologized for their antisemitic statements.
The congresswomen’s antisemitism goes much deeper than their antisemitic statements. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IRHA) ’s widely adopted definition of antisemitism includes the denial of Israel’s right to exist. Tlaib in particular has rejected this right and demands Israel be dismantled. By definition, this is antisemitic.
Moreover, both Omar and Tlaib support the BDS movement, which seeks to weaken and ultimately destroy Israel through economic, social and political means. One of the leaders of the movement is Omar Barghouti, who has publicly stated that Israel should never have been created.
Omar won her last primary by less than 2% of the vote. If Jeffries and the rest of the Democratic leadership oppose her re-election, she would likely lose. Jeffries’s statements show they have no intention of doing so.
The Republicans had a similar decision to make regarding former congressman Steve King, who made statements in support of white supremacy. Then-Minority Leader and current House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) rightly endorsed King’s primary challenger, Randy Feenstra. He also dropped King from all committees. King was not reelected.
In contrast, when a vote was taken to remove Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee—she was removed—every single House Democrat, including all Jewish members, voted to keep her on the immensely powerful committee.
A few years ago, former basketball star Kareem Abdul Jabbar bravely wrote about the “shocking lack of massive indignation” concerning antisemitic statements made by black athletes and celebrities. Thankfully, several of those who made such statements have since apologized. In contrast, Omar and Tlaib’s antisemitism has become acceptable in their party and thus in Congress.
Jabbar said, “It is not enough to have good intentions, because it’s the actual deeds—and words—which have the real impact.”
The Democratic House leadership, Mellman and his organization, and the Democratic Party as a whole have failed to do the actual deeds in the fight against antisemitism. Endorsing Omar and defending her and other congressional antisemites will only further legitimatize antisemitism in American life.

Hakeem Jeffries’s endorsement of Ilhan Omar will only further legitimize antisemitism in American life.
(JNS) The Democratic leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives has failed to stand up to antisemitism. In particular, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has endorsed antisemitic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for re-election.
“Rep. Omar has been elected by her constituents three times and has consistently stood up for them, including through her service on the House Budget Committee,” Jeffries stated. “As House Democratic leader, I vigorously endorse her reelection and stand with her as we battle extreme MAGA Republicans for the future of our nation.”
On July 18, the House voted to condemn both antisemitism and the claim that Israel is a racist and apartheid state. It passed 412-9 with Rep. Betsy McCollum (D-Minn.) voting present. Jeffries’s statement indicates that the House Democratic leadership will endorse all nine Democratic lawmakers who voted against the resolution.
Worse still, Mark Mellman, the president and CEO of the Democratic Majority for Israel, defended Jeffries’s endorsement of Omar while admitting that Omar has made antisemitic statements. Mellman justified Jeffries’s endorsement by saying it is customary to endorse all incumbents.
On March 7, 2019, the House of Representatives passed Resolution 183, which condemned antisemitism. It was initiated in response to antisemitic comments made by Omar and fellow congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
The text of the resolution stated that its purpose was to “ensure safety” for the Jewish people. It included the statement that “accusing Jews of being more loyal to Israel or to the Jewish community than to the U.S. constitutes antisemitism.”
This was prompted by Omar’s Feb. 27, 2019 categorization of supporters of a strong U.S.-Israel relationship as people who “push allegiance to a foreign country.”
Omar’s libel followed Tlaib’s tweet the previous month in which she criticized Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)’s anti-BDS efforts with the accusation: “They forgot what country they represent.” Rubio responded, “The ‘dual loyalty’ canard is a typical antisemite line.”
Neither Omar nor Tlaib has apologized for their antisemitic statements.
The congresswomen’s antisemitism goes much deeper than their antisemitic statements. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IRHA) ’s widely adopted definition of antisemitism includes the denial of Israel’s right to exist. Tlaib in particular has rejected this right and demands Israel be dismantled. By definition, this is antisemitic.
Moreover, both Omar and Tlaib support the BDS movement, which seeks to weaken and ultimately destroy Israel through economic, social and political means. One of the leaders of the movement is Omar Barghouti, who has publicly stated that Israel should never have been created.
Omar won her last primary by less than 2% of the vote. If Jeffries and the rest of the Democratic leadership oppose her re-election, she would likely lose. Jeffries’s statements show they have no intention of doing so.
The Republicans had a similar decision to make regarding former congressman Steve King, who made statements in support of white supremacy. Then-Minority Leader and current House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) rightly endorsed King’s primary challenger, Randy Feenstra. He also dropped King from all committees. King was not reelected.
In contrast, when a vote was taken to remove Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee—she was removed—every single House Democrat, including all Jewish members, voted to keep her on the immensely powerful committee.
A few years ago, former basketball star Kareem Abdul Jabbar bravely wrote about the “shocking lack of massive indignation” concerning antisemitic statements made by black athletes and celebrities. Thankfully, several of those who made such statements have since apologized. In contrast, Omar and Tlaib’s antisemitism has become acceptable in their party and thus in Congress.
Jabbar said, “It is not enough to have good intentions, because it’s the actual deeds—and words—which have the real impact.”
The Democratic House leadership, Mellman and his organization, and the Democratic Party as a whole have failed to do the actual deeds in the fight against antisemitism. Endorsing Omar and defending her and other congressional antisemites will only further legitimatize antisemitism in American life.

On Sept. 4, 2003, three IAF “Eagle” (F-15) fighter jets flew over the former Nazi-run extermination camp in Poland, where more than one million Jews were murdered during World War II.
“We rose from the ashes of millions of victims, carrying their silent cry, saluting their heroism and promising to be a protector of the Jewish people and their country, Israel,” said the IAF pilots who made the flight at a ceremony on Monday.

This mashup is too perfect. The way the children sing it with such fervor. You can see the passion in their eyes. You can feel their pure souls singing to G-d. Along with Hatikvah, this mashup has the words from the Passover Haggadah that the Jewish people read and relive at the Pesach Seder. Those words were made into a popular song called “Vehi She’amda.” The song does not have all the words from the passage in the Haggadah, but the words that are part of the song are “Vehi She’amda La’avoteinu Velanu Shelo Echad Bilvad Amad Aleinu Lechaloteinu V’HaKadosh Baruch Hu Matzilenu Miyadam.” The translation of that is: “And this (Hashem’s blessings and the Torah) is what kept our fathers and what keeps us surviving. They have almost no hope of winning any more elections in the future. The only questions that now exist are whether Israel’s government will be a right-wing coalition with the far right or if it will be a right wing coalition with the moderate center. The left wing of Israel has simply become irrelevant at the ballot box. They have become a screaming minority. So, they have taken to the streets to protect the left-wing anti-democratic institutions that are essentially fiefdoms – especially the Supreme Court.
The same left-wing people that are screaming that Israel must NOT follow the Knesset decisions today are the same people who said 18 years ago that Israel’s right-wing must abide by the Knesset decision to destroy all of the Jewish communities in Gush Katif. The same left-wing people blocking roads today were the ones who screamed 18 years ago that right-wing people who block roads should be arrested immediately. The hypocrisy is crystal clear. Netanyahu sees through it too.
But the PR war is also important. Israel’s right-wing must regroup and fight back with a PR offensive that ridicules the hypocrisy of the left. Whenever a radical fringe succeeds in bringing their ideas into the consensus, things become dangerous. Israel’s left has gone off the deep end. Israel right-wing Jewish community actually represents around 65% of the Jewish vote. But the protests have succeeded in weakening the middle-of-the-road support for the right wing. Israel’s right-wing must battle back for the support of the moderates, and then persistently take the steps necessary to eradicate the fiefdoms in the courts, press, and other government institutions that are truly the threat to Israel’s democracy.
