In the year 142 BCE, after more than 500 years of subjugation following the Babylonian siege on Jerusalem that we will commemorate next week, the Jews were again masters of their own fate, with self-rule reestablished and the Temple Mount again alive with proud Jewish life.
It was, however, short lived. The Hasmoneans were wonderful soldiers, but, sadly, terrible leaders. The infighting between the Jews continued, and after nearly 20 years of living in war, with battles throughout the entirety of the land, the war that continued was one for the internal Jewish spirit of our collective destiny. Then, like now, there was infighting among our people - disagreements on what it meant to live, govern, thrive as a Jewish state.

We have witnessed generations of attempted destruction of our people, our heritage, and today, our history and our identity. But what has sustained us is our connection to the source, to the facts, to the mission of Jewish life - then and now, and for the next generation to learn from.

The Maccabees' battle did not end after the 8th night. Neither does ours.
Where are we in this fight today?

Home » An Israeli scholar says he translated an inscription proving the reliability of the Bible. Others disagree
Aprominent Israeli professor is at the center of controversy concerning his deciphering an inscription dated to the 8th century BCE that was discovered at the Siloam Spring in Jerusalem. The professor claims that the inscription refers to Biblical King Hezekiah and “emphasizes the reliability of the Bible.” But his critics disagree.

The story began two weeks ago when Prof. Gershon Galil, a Professor of Biblical Studies and Ancient History and former chair of the Department of Jewish History at the University of Haifa, announced that he had successfully deciphered five royal inscriptions of King Hezekiah, including hundreds of letters and dozens of lines of text. The inscriptions, etched into the walls of the City of David’s Hezekiah Tunnel in Jerusalem, described the King’s accomplishments during the first 17 years of his kingship, which began in the late 8th century BCE and continued into the early 7th century BCE. These included the water project (the cutting of the Siloam Tunnel and the pool), ritual reform, the conquest of Philistia, and property accumulation. Dating to the Late Bronze Age II (probably 1400-1300 BCE), seven inscriptions in total were discovered in 2007 by archaeologist Eli Shukron and Ronny Reich in an area known as the “Pillar Temple” near a man-made pool in the Siloam tunnel. In the 15 years since they were discovered, the inscriptions had not been deciphered.

Prof.Galil described his finding in-depth on his Facebook page.

One inscription measuring 5.3 inches long by 3.8 inches wide features two lines of writing containing six letters inscribed in Old Hebrew script. Until Prof. Galil released his results this month.


The three letters of the first line of the inscription, (z)q y h, are part of a single word which has been reconstructed as: 

ח]זקיה] / [H]zqyh / [He]zekiah. 

The initial letter h/ח is missing (Hebrew is read from right to left and doesn’t contain vowels.)

The first word of the second line includes the two letters kh and is reconstructed as:

ב]רכה] / [br]kh / bricha (berecha) or pool in English. 

Again, the initial letter is broken off. Then, there is a dot that follows and a third letter. The dot was used to separate words so the third letter is the start of a new word.

Prof. Galil concluded the full inscription was:

“Hezekiah made the pool in Jerusalem.”

A parallel passage found in 2 Kings 20:20 reads:

“As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool and the tunnel by which he brought water into the city…” 

“This is an extremely important discovery that changes [some basic assumptions of] research, since until today it was commonly accepted that the kings of Israel and Judah, unlike the kings of the ancient Middle East, did not make themselves royal inscriptions and monuments… to commemorate their achievements,” said Galil.

“The Israeli kings were indeed mentioned in extra-biblical Assyrian, Babylonian, Aramaic, Moabite inscriptions as well as on Hebrew seal impressions,” added Galil, “but this is the first time that a fragment of a monumental Hebrew royal inscription has been deciphered that mentions the name of the king whose achievements were detailed in it.”

“The discovery strengthens the approach of researchers who emphasize the reliability of the Bible, since it teaches that right in front of the eyes of the Bible’s authors stood monuments with royal inscriptions… [engraved at the very] time of the kings mentioned in the Bible,” he continued.

Galil’s conclusion was affirmed by Dr. Peter van der Veen of Germany’s Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz who came to the same conclusion in 2009. His claim was published in a German-language journal at that time.

But a group of 34 archaeologists and researchers released a public statement on Saturday criticizing Galil’s claims. The open letter, published on the blog of Bar-Ilan University Prof. Aren Maeir, did not mention Galil by name nor did it dispute his conclusions or methods.The letter criticized Galil’s method of publicizing his study. 

“Occasionally, and up until recent days, archaeological finds and discoveries (that are at times presented as revolutionary and game changers in the history of the Land of Israel) have been published in the popular press and on social media, prior to peer review, and to the full presentation, with high quality illustrations, of these finds in scientific publications, even long after the initial public notification.

“As is clear to anyone dealing with science and research, one of the foundations of all research and discovery is that results must go through a process of peer review prior to publication, to check for quality, suggest improvements and comments, and in some cases, reject a suggestion. Without this process, research is conducted without proper checks and balances. In addition, research colleagues (in this case archaeologists and historians) cannot properly ascertain, and if need be disagree, with these claims.”

Prof. Maeir spoke to Times of Israel, acknowledging that he was skeptical of Galil’s findings based on his method of publicizing them.

“I wish it was true, and I hope it is. It would change everything that we know,” said Maeir of the recent Galil announcement. “But it’s like saying you’ve disproved Einstein’s theory of relativity, but you’ll only publish the findings on ‘Saturday Night Live.’”

A source who is close to the issue and the researchers involved commented on the condition of anonymity. 

“Far more prominent and respected Israeli scholars declined to sign the statement than did sign it,” he said to Israel365 News. “The list is almost endless.”

The source also noted that Prof. Maeir, who posted the critical letter on his blog, edited at least one authoritative text co-written by Galil. Publicity is an important tool for funding archaeological research and has been used by Maeir who has been touted in the media as “Israel’s Indiana Jones” for his research at Tel Gath, the city described in the Bible as the home of Goliath and the location where a blinded Sampson knocked down the temple pillars.

“Galil is brilliant but problematic,” the source admitted. “He can be valuable as part of a team, but as a lead author or sole author, he can be impulsive. In general, I agree with the statement of the Israeli scholars, but there are exceptions to the expectation that findings be initially published in peer reviewed journals. Sometimes, it is expedient to publish in mainstream media, for example when there is a danger of academic piracy. This is especially true when the journals publish highly detailed photos.”

For those who don’t remember, it was little more than 20 years ago when the greatest attack on the mainland of United States occurred. More than 3,000 lives were destroyed and thousands more were scarred, many of whom are feeling the effects till today.

The fear card is a powerful weapon. It was used effectively during the coronavirus pandemic, and it is now being used today in order to do anything and everything to play up the danger of Donald Trump and all Republicans. What is the fear that is being hoisted on the American people? The fear of losing democracy.

This is par for the course for the woke movement. The biggest threat to democracy today is the woke movement. So, how do they scare the population? By saying that democracy is in danger.

It doesn’t matter whether or not Jan. 6th was a big deal, a very big deal, or even a huge deal. It is completely preposterous to say that democracy was under attack and that it was the single greatest threat to democracy since the Civil War. The American people who were bothered by the Jan. 6th riot were not just the liberal and woke progressives. Many on the right were also very uncomfortable and have since rejected Donald Trump as a viable candidate to support. The 2024 primaries will be the real test of this.

But to go from there to the point of saying that democracy was truly under attack is a sloppy exaggerated accusation. Barack Obama – yes, Barack Obama, knows what he is doing. He is trying to marginalize Donald Trump and brand the entire Republican leadership as dangerous. There is very little else that the Democrats can do today to argue their position.

The American people are not stupid. They may reject Donald Trump in the 2024 primaries, but they will usher in a new Republican led Oval Office in 2024 that will put an end to the sad state that America is in today.

The reason for hatred of the Jewish people actually has NOTHING to do with Israel. Anti-Semitism is more than 4,000 years old. The State of Israel is a little more than 70 years old. So why do anti-semites today seem to always focus on Israel? It’s in style. It can masquerade as genuine concern for human rights and not seem like the hatred that it really is. But all it is is pure hatred of Jews. It’s that simple.

The Jewish people are a people who have survived through the worst atrocities and still have come out being strong and proud. Despite being pushed down constantly, they always get back up. And it is a seemingly small moment like this one that shows that.
Antisemitism has been on the rise. People are trying to rid the world of the Jewish people and Jewish traditions. And then you see this. A Jewish acapella group singing the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden. The Maccabeats are well known because of their viral song Candlelight from Hanukkah time in 2010. They are Jews who wear their Yarmulkas, or Kippahs, proudly for the world to see. Sadly, many Jews are afraid to wear their Yarmulkas on their heads. They cover them up. But the Maccabeats singing at such a venue proudly displaying their Judaism is a beautiful thing to see. It is a message to the world that the Jewish nation will remain strong and proud. We will continue to show the world that no matter how hard we are kicked and pushed down, we will always fight back by being proud and contributing more good to the world – whether that be through music, medicine, technology, or anything else.

(JNS) As soon as it emerged that Israel’s acting Prime Minister Yair Lapid would tell the United Nations General Assembly this week that he supports the establishment of a Palestinian state, he was engulfed by outrage, incredulity and dismay.
Critics charged that he was endangering Israel’s security by seeking to establish a terrorist state on land to which Israel is lawfully entitled. This, they said, would incentivize yet more Palestinian terrorism.
In his actual remarks, Lapid appeared to row back from an earlier briefing by an official that he would say, “Israel must move toward a two-state solution.” Maybe as a sop to his critics, he confined himself instead to bland support for a “peaceful” Palestinian state.
Nevertheless, this was the first time in many years that an Israeli leader expressed support for such a state at the U.N.—and at a time when Palestinian radicalization and terror attacks are increasing.

The other night, an Arab Muslim Israeli lured Israeli police officers to his home by calling in a false report of domestic violence. He then ambushed, shot, and wounded three of the Israeli police officers who rushed to the scene.

Police later found several firebombs on the roof of the building from where the terrorist, Badir, had called the police.

The Israeli authorities have determined that it was a terror attack, but the Arab Muslim Mayor of the Israeli town where the terrorist lived, Kfar Qassam, attended his funeral claiming that it was not a terror attack.

Israel Police spokesman Cmdr. Eli Levi said, “The district commander was present at the scene and determined that it was a terrorist attack. There is no other version.”

CCTV footage backed up the police, showing Naim Badir attempting to shoot an officer.


When his gun fails to fire, he throws firebombs at a police car. Then he enters his car and speeds into reverse in an effort to run over a group of policemen. Three officers suffered light wounds and were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva.

Kfar Qassam Mayor Abdel Badir does not accept that Badir is a terrorist and he offered several possible motives for Friday’s pre-dawn attack in interviews with Hebrew media, including criminal intent and mental illness.

He also blamed illegal guns in the Arab sector, saying they are “directed at all of us.”

At the same time, every Arab Muslim Israeli knows that if they kill Jews in a terror attack they and their families would be compensated with money from the Palestinian Authority, “pay to slay”.

Shas Party Chairman Aryeh Deri denounced Badir’s attendance at the funeral.

“Instead of condemning the terror committed in his city…a mayor in the State of Israel chose to participate in the funeral of a damned terrorist who brutally ran over and shot an officer and two policemen carrying out their duties in the city. A shame and disgrace,” said Deri.

Ultimately, Chanuka is the story of light overcoming darkness. But it is not simple to explain what this means. After all, weren’t the Greek people who came and entered into the Land of Israel during the time of Alexander the Great the most advanced and cultured people at the time? Yes, but no. They were indeed very into music, sports, culture, philosophy and architecture. But this was a skin deep way of life. It was not truly a spiritual way of life.

The Greek way of life ultimately led to a cruel attempt to destroy the Jewish idea of spirituality by wiping out any vestige of Jewish spirituality and dedication to observing G-d’s Torah. What seemed like an enlightened way of life turned into the most close-minded ideology that did not leave any room for different forms of religion.

Freedom of religion was far from the norm and the Greeks and their Jewish sympathizers fought to snuff out Judaism by the sword.

It was just a small handful of people who took up arms and fought against the mighty Greek Army. Even after a few victories, the Jewish rag-tag Army rarely numbered more than a few thousand. But they succeeded in pushing back the Greek Army that numbered in the tens of thousands, time and again. The victory was a military one, but it was the Jewish spirit and dedication to G-d’s Torah that ultimately prevailed and is celebrated each year on Chanuka.

A confidential document composed by the European Union’s mission in eastern Jerusalem and obtained by JNS shows that Brussels is actively working with and on behalf of the Palestinian Authority to take over Area C of Judea and Samaria, with the overall objective of integrating the region with Areas A and B.

“The European Union is committed to contribute to building a Palestinian State within 1967 borders and mobilize to this purpose its political and financial tools,” the document begins.

“The viability of the two-state solution is being steadily eroded by the progressive fragmentation and ‘creeping annexation’ of Area C….This calls for an enhanced, articulated and robust nexus approach mobilizing European political and financial means,” it continues.
“The EU’s Area C program aims to foster the resilience of people, services and institutions, to reinforce Palestinian presence in Area C and to protect the rights of Palestinians living in Area C. The program contributes to serving Area C communities and Palestinian presence therein, so as to preserve Area C as part of a future Palestinian state,” the paper adds.

The document furthermore contends that “territorial integration is a sine qua non condition for a future Palestinian state: ‘connecting people, connecting land‘ shared principle to all interventions in Area C with the overall objective to integrate Area C with Area A and B. The EU’s interventions in Area C are strengthened by a joint European Approach and the active involvement of different actors, starting with the Palestinian Authority.”

E.U. Ambassador to Israel Dimiter Tzantchev told JNS: “We don’t comment on internal documents. The E.U.’s position in support of a two-state solution is well-known and very clear. The same is true for our concerns regarding the settlements in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] and our policy vis-à-vis Area C. The four pillars of support
According to the confidential document, the E.U.’s programmatic approach in Area C stands on four main pillars:

“1. Planning and mapping of land rights; aims to strengthen the capacity of the local communities in Area C in planning their own resources and securing their land through local planning and mapping land right interventions that will provide a framework for investment and development.

“2. Provision of social and public infrastructure projects; aims to improve access to basic services such as water, electricity, road infrastructure, education or health through investment in essential social and public infrastructure. Projects are identified in coordination with Palestinian Authority and based on the development needs identified by Palestinian communities in Area C. So far, this pillar includes contributions from Member States (MS), i.e Denmark, France and Germany (in addition to the United Kingdom).

“3. Private sector development and investment in Area C, notably in agriculture, green energy and resilience; this pillar aims to support private sector development and investment in Area C in order to contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic development of Palestinian communities.

“4 . Local governance; it aims to enhance Palestinian Local Authorities’ contribution to governance and development processes in Area C, as a precondition for a more equitable, open and accountable society. It has been jointly implemented with Belgium and links to ongoing support to the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities and Local Governance Units in Area C. The E.U. and its Member State[s] have also supported civil society organisations in legal aid to Palestinian communities in Area C, to promote human rights, freedom of expression and peace-building activities.”


Prof. Gerald Steinberg, president of the NGO Monitor think tank, told JNS that “since 1980, E.U. policymakers have sought to create a Palestinian state, and for the past two decades, they have used a network of NGO subcontractors to promote this objective.

“As this document confirms, Europe’s use of labels like support for ‘civil society’ and ‘human rights’ were designed to hide the millions of euros given every year to selected allied NGOs, particularly in Area C, to create facts on the ground. Now that the pretense is out in the open, the potential for a major confrontation between Israel and Europe, including over support for NGOs, is very high,” said Steinberg.

According to a recent report by the Israeli NGO Regavim, Arab expansion into land in Judea and Samaria is far outpacing Israeli growth in the area. “In the past year, the rate of illegal Palestinian construction has increased by 80%,” the researchers wrote last month.

So far in 2022, Palestinians built 5,535 illegal structures in Area C, which was placed under full Israeli control by the Oslo Accords. In contrast, illegal Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria amounted to 406 structures in 2022, Regavim said.

Over the past 20 years, illegal construction by Israelis totaled a mere 4,382 structures, fewer than what Palestinians built in the past year alone.

Naomi Linder Kahn, director of Regavim’s International Division, told JNS that “Israel is quantifiably losing the construction battle to the Palestinians in Area C.”

Prof. Eugene Kontorovich, director of international law at the Kohelet Policy Forum in Jerusalem, told JNS the leaked E.U. document shows that Brussels is taking steps in anticipation of policies by Israel’s incoming government to preserve lands in Area C.

“There is a rapid annexation of areas surrounding Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria by the P.A. and E.U. This is ‘land for peace’ without the fake promise of peace,” he said, adding: “These revelations show that no one should be surprised when the E.U. condemns the new government for trying to save land in Yehuda and Shomron [Judea and Samaria]—they are the ones responsible for stealing it.

“The proposed policies of the [prospective Benjamin Netanyah-led] coalition in Area C are not about changing the status quo—they are the bare minimum to preserve it,” said Kontorovich.

A confidential document composed by the European Union’s mission in eastern Jerusalem and obtained by JNS shows that Brussels is actively working with and on behalf of the Palestinian Authority to take over Area C of Judea and Samaria, with the overall objective of integrating the region with Areas A and B.

“The European Union is committed to contribute to building a Palestinian State within 1967 borders and mobilize to this purpose its political and financial tools,” the document begins.

“The viability of the two-state solution is being steadily eroded by the progressive fragmentation and ‘creeping annexation’ of Area C….This calls for an enhanced, articulated and robust nexus approach mobilizing European political and financial means,” it continues.
“The EU’s Area C program aims to foster the resilience of people, services and institutions, to reinforce Palestinian presence in Area C and to protect the rights of Palestinians living in Area C. The program contributes to serving Area C communities and Palestinian presence therein, so as to preserve Area C as part of a future Palestinian state,” the paper adds.

The document furthermore contends that “territorial integration is a sine qua non condition for a future Palestinian state: ‘connecting people, connecting land‘ shared principle to all interventions in Area C with the overall objective to integrate Area C with Area A and B. The EU’s interventions in Area C are strengthened by a joint European Approach and the active involvement of different actors, starting with the Palestinian Authority.”

E.U. Ambassador to Israel Dimiter Tzantchev told JNS: “We don’t comment on internal documents. The E.U.’s position in support of a two-state solution is well-known and very clear. The same is true for our concerns regarding the settlements in the West Bank [Judea and Samaria] and our policy vis-à-vis Area C. The papers simply can’t let their obsession go.

(JNS) The anti-Israel online magazine +972 has hailed “The First Palestinian World Cup.” The New York Times called the Palestinians “the World Cup’s Unofficial Team.” The Washington Post declared, “At the World Cup, the Arab world rallies to Palestinian cause.” Much of the rest of the media has played along.

Given the media’s obsession with the Palestinian cause and need to cover it out of all proportion to its importance in world affairs, it was not surprising the two major papers would find a way to make the World Cup about the Palestinians, even though it wasn’t.

Yes, the Moroccan team unfurled a Palestinian flag, and there have been examples of support for the Palestinian cause among fans. But did this merit a story? Maybe, but if you’re going to report it, shouldn’t journalists at least place the activities in context and admit that it was pre-planned and supported by the Qatari government?

Alas, that is always too much to expect from the Times and the Post.

The papers briefly mentioned the double standard employed by the Qataris and FIFA, the governing body of the World Cup, which banned all other political displays, such as Iran’s revolutionary flag and symbols of the LBGTQ community. The Palestinians, as they always do, got a free pass. Given the much-publicized corruption involved in FIFA’s decision to award the Cup to Qatar, it is not surprising that the soccer federation kowtowed to the Qataris rather than uphold its commitment to keep politics out of the tournament.

The Times and the Post also refused to report that the Qataris encouraged the obsession with the Palestinians to divert attention from Qatar’s abysmal human rights record, including the use of slave labor to build the venues for the tournament.

Instead of noting this, the Post quoted a Qatari professor—obviously an objective source—who said, “The presence of Palestinian flags at stadiums was ‘not organized by states, but something genuine from within the people themselves.’”

The press has parroted this claim that the expressions of support for the Palestinians were spontaneous. Yet it is all but impossible for a building in Doha to be lit with a Palestinian flag alongside a sign reading “Gaza is in our hearts” without it being planned long in advance. In addition, shopkeepers in Qatar were selling Palestinian flags and armbands, which could not have happened without the government’s tacit approval.

The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center has noted that the Palestinians planned a major publicity campaign before the Cup. Among other things, it urged captains of Arab teams to wear the colors of the Palestinian flag and encouraged spectators to wave Palestinian flags in the stands and outside the stadiums, as well as hang them from cars and buildings. The campaign also included the dispatch of “ambassadors of Palestine” to talk to fans about the Palestinian cause, and calls for mainstream and social media to promote Palestinian propaganda.

The Times and Post articles further conflate fans rooting for the Moroccan team with supporters of the Palestinians. However, as Steven Cook noted in Foreign Policy, “It is reasonable to assume that most of these people were not actually pro-Palestinian activists. It was football fans who supported Palestinian rights and took advantage of the world stage that is the largest football tournament in the world.”

While reporters for the two papers quoted fans espousing the Palestinian cause, most of those who supported the Moroccan team almost certainly did so for non-political reasons. Some wanted to see an Arab, Muslim and African team win, while others love to see an underdog defeat the soccer powerhouses. Acknowledging such facts, however, would not fit the narrative endorsed by the Times and the Post.

The papers also used the pro-Palestinian demonstrations to denigrate the Abraham Accords, one of the most important events in the Middle East for at least a half-century. Is it because the Accords were negotiated under the Trump administration? Or because they undermined the journalists’ belief that the Palestinian issue is the root of all the region’s problems? Perhaps both?

Moreover, people in the Abraham Accords countries have been indoctrinated with anti-Israel and often antisemitic propaganda by state media and the educational system for their entire lives. So, why is anyone surprised that they have not instantly become Zionists? It may take decades for them to come around, if they ever do, given that they remain exposed to incessant attacks on Israelis and Jews by the U.N., human rights organizations, educators, religious extremists and the media.

The Times and the Post also don’t mention that Qatar is behind the most popular media source in the region, Al Jazeera, which is an anti-Israel propaganda arm of the government.

The Post further diminished the Accords by claiming they “only reflect top-level elite interests in the region.”

Really?

What about the collaboration between Israel and the Gulf states in fighting Covid? What about all the businesses that benefit from the burst of tourism from Israel? What about cooperation relating to agriculture in desert conditions, water management and irrigation? What about the agreement for a joint R&D fund to commercialize solutions to challenges like climate change and clean energy? What about the efforts to promote religious coexistence? What about the Israeli intelligence and weapons systems that protect citizens of those countries from Iran?

It is nothing new for the media to cheer the Palestinians or ignore their incitement, terrorism, abuse of human rights and corruption. Such virtue-signaling during the World Cup gives Palestinians a warm and fuzzy feeling without changing their circumstances. They still are under the thumb of the Abbas and Hamas regimes, whose commitment to Israel’s destruction guarantees their flag may be unfurled at a soccer match in Qatar, but not over a capital in Jerusalem.

Ideally, they should have all been found as part of a proper archeological dig, but unfortunately, the Muslims dug up the Solomon’s Stables area of the Temple Mount illegally and dumped tens of thousands of dirt outisde of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Joseph’s Tomb is considered one of the holiest sites to the Jewish people. The Oslo agreement of the 1990s brought the surrounding area into the control of the Palestinian Authority. According to the agreements, freedom of worship was guaranteed to the Jewish people. However, that never materialized and at various points the IDF has had to return and restore order.

Monthly visits to Joseph’s Tomb with IDF escort have been occurring for a while, but that has not been enough to prevent the kind of destruction that occurred the other day.

The telegram, which was revealed during the dedication of the Eli Cohen Museum in Herzliya, is dated Feb. 19, 1965, the day on which Cohen is believed to have been captured. In it, Cohen reports on a Syrian General Staff meeting held the previous evening with the participation of then Syrian President Amin al-Hafez.

“I will honor this holy place and reveal, for the first time, following in-depth research that was carried out recently, that Eli Cohen was not captured due to the quantity of his transmissions or pressure from headquarters to transmit too frequently,” said Barnea. “Eli Cohen was captured because his transmissions were simply intercepted and triangulated by the enemy. This is now an intelligence fact.”

Cohen’s capture has been the subject of conjecture over the years, with some arguing that he was caught because the Mossad demanded that he transmit too much information, compromising his position.

Standing Up to Jew-Hatred
It is not always easy to take the right position in life. It is especially difficult if you face backlash. Either way, these people chose to do what was moral. They didn’t care what the consequences would be.

The latest coin in the hoard dates to 170 BCE, the year it was hidden and the year the Maccabean rebellion began.

(JNS) Israeli archaeologists have discovered a small hoard of silver coins in the Judean Desert dating to the reign of Antioch IV, the ruler of the Seleucid Empire at the time of the rebellion of the Maccabees.

The coins, 15 in all, were in a wooden container hidden some 2,200 years ago and uncovered during excavations at the Darageh Stream Nature Reserve overlooking the Dead Sea last May.

The unique, lathe-turned wooden jar was discovered in a crack in the cave. When the lid was removed, packed earth and small stones were found in the upper part of the box. Below this layer, a large piece of purple woolen cloth was found, covering 15 silver coins arranged with pieces of sheep’s wool.

The hoard comprised a homogeneous group of silver tetradrachms coins minted by Ptolemy VI, King of Egypt. Ptolemy VI reigned over Egypt at the same time as his uncle Antiochus IV Epiphanes (a title meaning “God Manifest” or “the Glorious/Illustrious”) reigned over the Seleucid Kingdom, including Judea.

The three earliest coins in the hoard were minted in 176/5 B.C.E., while the latest coin dates to 171/0 B.C.E—the year the Maccabean Revolt began.

The name “Shalmai,” in Aramaic script, was found secondarily incised on one of the coins.

“It is interesting to try to visualize the person who fled to the cave and hid his personal property here intending to return to collect it,” said Eitan Klein of the Israel Antiquities Authority, one of those who studied the coins.

“The person was probably killed in the battles and did not return to collect his possessions, which awaited almost 2,200 years until we retrieved it.”

Klein described the find as “absolutely unique” and the “first clear archaeological evidence” that the Judean Desert caves played an active role in the activities of the Jewish rebels in the early days of the Maccabean Revolt.

At the time of the vaccine’s rollout, Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla insisted that it was able to reduce the effect of Covid and prevent transmission. It has now been proven that neither was true. More than that, it is becoming clearer that the vaccine maybe the leading cause of increased injuries and death across the USA and the world.

Florida’s Surgeon General Dr. Joespeh Ladapo also took part in the round table. He spoke directly about the damage the vaccines appear to be causing. “We know that there has been a lot of faith destroyed in public health, and I think that it’s important that we have folks that actually can rely on when they’re looking for answers and they’re looking for answers on some of these really, really important issues,” Dr. Ladapo said.

DeSantis’ move is the first real move against vaccine makers and represents a serious threat at uncovering real collusion between the government and pharmaceuticals. THE WASHINGTON POST’S BAD ADVICE FOR PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Diplomats appear determined to refuse to learn from history.

(JNS / CAMERA) “Diplomacy,” Winston Churchill once remarked, “is the art of telling people to go to hell in such a way that they ask for directions.” And in a Nov. 29, 2022 Washington Post op-ed, two former U.S. diplomats told a key American ally, Israel, to do just that.

Aaron David Miller and Daniel Kurtzer spent decades serving the United States in key diplomatic roles, many of them relating to the Middle East and the Israel-Arab conflict. Recently, the two penned a Post op-ed entitled, “Biden should respond boldly to a radical Netanyahu government,” in which they call for the president of the United States to, among other things, place conditions on arms sales to Israel and interfere in the country’s domestic politics.

Yet the Post column is plagued by shoddy analysis and selective outrage.

Miller and Kurtzer claim that the incoming Netanyahu government is comprised of individuals with “anti-democratic values” that are “inimical” to the United States. Netanyahu, they argue, has “midwifed the most extreme government in the history” of the Jewish state. As proof, they cite deals that the future and former premier made with other individuals, and other political parties, to reach the necessary threshold to get a majority in Israel’s parliamentary system.

Netanyahu “cut a deal with convicted inciter of hatred and violence Itamar Ben Gvir and made him minister of national security, with far-reaching authority for the West Bank, Jerusalem and mixed Arab-Jewish cities in Israel proper.” And “Bezalel Smotrich, who has called for the expulsion of Arabs, is in line to run the finance ministry, with additional authority over the Civil Administration, which governs the West Bank.” Additionally, Avi Maoz, who “proudly espouses a fierce anti-LGBTQ agenda,” has been made a deputy in the prime minister’s office in charge of “Jewish identity.”

All of this, Miller and Kurtzer claim, is “unprecedented” and “threatens to put to rest the already-moribund two-state solution.”

The two diplomats proceed to veer into the speculative. The incoming coalition’s agenda could “be marked by increased settlement activity and land confiscation, violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, terrorist attacks against Israelis, efforts to change the status quo by legitimizing Jewish prayer on the Noble Sanctuary/Temple Mount and loosened rules regarding the use of force against both Palestinians in the West Bank and Arab citizens of Israel.”

All of this is pure speculation on the part of Miller and Kurtzer. However, it is worth noting that they preemptively blame Israel for terrorist attacks against Israelis and are opposed to Jews, but not Muslims, praying at a Jewish holy site. This is curiously one-sided and, coming from two individuals who are expressing concerns about bigotry, darkly ironic.

The two also argue that the new coalition could lead to “violent confrontations between Israelis and Palestinians”—even “another serious round of fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, as occurred in May 2021.”

However, “violent confrontations” already occur between Israelis and Palestinians—the result, in part, of the ruling Palestinian Authority paying tax deductible salaries to murder and maim Jews. Oddly, Miller and Kurtzer don’t call for cutting or conditioning aid to the P.A., despite its reprehensible “pay to slay” policy.

As for the May 2021 war, that was launched by Iranian proxies at the behest their benefactor. As CAMERA has documented, Iran even admitted as much. Indeed, Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, is seeking to use its proxies to surround and destroy the Jewish state. Part of this plan includes taking over the P.A.-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria.

None of this is breaking news. It should lead those advocating for U.S. interests to want to ensure a leading democratic ally is strong and has American support. Instead, Miller and Kurtzer call for weakening the Jewish state because they don’t like the results of its democratic elections. Curiously, they don’t apply this standard to the Palestinian Authority, which not only incentivizes and celebrates terrorist attacks in school curriculum and on official media, but hasn’t held elections since 2006. The P.A. is dependent on foreign aid.

As for the “moribund” two-state solution, both Miller and Kurtzer omit that the P.A. has rejected numerous U.S. and Israeli offers for a Palestinian state in exchange for peace with Israel, including in 2000 at Camp David, 2001 at Taba and 2008 after the Annapolis Conference. The latter offer included more than 93% of the disputed territories, land swaps for the remainder and a capital in eastern Jerusalem. P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas declined that proposal. He also rejected similar offers in 2014 and 2016—the latter brought by then-Vice President Joe Biden himself. Indeed, Palestinian leaders have been rejecting offers for statehood in exchange for peace with a Jewish state for eight decades, preferring war and terrorism instead. If the two-state solution is “moribund,” the culprit is clear—and one doesn’t need to be a former State Department envoy to figure out just who it is.

Miller and Kurtzer’s argument that the U.S. should restrict aid to Israel and refuse meetings with certain Israeli officials is hypocritical. Neither have penned op-eds calling for ending aid to the P.A. Neither had an issue with U.S. officials meeting with P.A. leaders, including former terrorists. The first head of the P.A., Yasser Arafat, was a terrorist with both American and Israeli blood on his hands. His successor, Abbas, reportedly helped finance terrorist attacks, was a Soviet agent and continues to dole out money to those who murder Jews and Americans like U.S. veteran Taylor Force.

Miller and Kurtzer, however, are fine with U.S. officials meeting with men like Arafat and Abbas. What can explain this hypocrisy? Perhaps the bigotry of low expectations. Miller and Kurtzer don’t expect better from Palestinian leaders and, unsurprisingly, there’s little to no improvement in the fiercely anti-democratic Palestinian political sphere. They claim that the “Palestinian Authority is unable to control violence and terror.” Infantilizing the P.A. and depriving Palestinians of independent agency and responsibility is hardly a path to peace—as Miller and Kurtzer themselves should know.

Indeed, in an op-ed that runs hundreds of words, they expend a single sentence calling for the U.S. to tell Palestinian leaders that they need to hold elections and “curb violence and terrorism.” Yet the Oslo Accords that created the P.A. (and which remain the basis for both its legitimacy and continued U.S. support) explicitly call for Palestinian leaders to reject terrorism. As CAMERA has documented, first Arafat and then Abbas broke that pledge. And yet the U.S. continued to support the P.A., long after its adherence to terrorism and rejectionism was made clear. Perhaps some reflection is in order.

Additionally, the claim that the incoming Israeli coalition will include elements with “extreme” views is also selective. The previous coalition included members of Ra’am, an Arab Islamist party whose views are decidedly, to use Miller and Kurtzer’s phrase, “anti-LGBTQ” and “anti-democratic.” Several Ra’am members have also made hateful remarks and praised terrorist attacks. Yet Miller, Kurtzer and, for that matter, The Washington Post’s editorial board, happily supported that coalition. Neither former diplomat called to condition aid on account of Ra’am’s inclusion. One could be forgiven for having the impression that their outrage is based less on principles and more on antagonism aimed at Netanyahu and Israel’s democratic process.

Perhaps most damningly, both Miller and Kurtzer call to hinder progress towards peace when it’s not on their terms. The two argue that “the Biden administration needs to inform the Abraham Accord countries—the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan—that their evident lack of interest in the plight of the Palestinians will undermine their relationship with Israel and damage their credibility in advancing other regional objectives with the United States.” This is truly astonishing.

By all accounts, the Abraham Accords constitute the most positive trend in the Middle East in decades. At great risk, several Arab and Muslim nations have pursued better relations with Israel. In some cases, the ties between these nations and the Jewish state are more expansive, including at the cultural level, than previous peace agreements between Egypt and Israel or Jordan and Israel. The Accords came about, in part, due to a commitment to discard old, failed attempts to bring peace to the region. Notably, one of the chief forces in bringing about the Abraham Accords was David Friedman, a U.S. ambassador to Israel whose nomination Miller and Kurtzer vocally opposed.

Seeking to punish and castigate countries that are pursuing peace with a chief non-NATO ally defies both common sense and good strategy. The Biden administration, like the Trump administration before it, is currently engaged in a global competition with China. Punishing key regional allies and offending potential new ones is bad strategy. One doesn’t need to be a Kissinger or a Metternich to grasp this fact.

It also reveals both Miller and Kurtzer to be poor students of history and the many lessons it offers policymakers.

For example, President Jimmy Carter nearly self-sabotaged what is perhaps his greatest foreign policy triumph: The Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. In the 1970s, Egyptian leader Anwar al-Sadat sought Western support, hoping to move from the Soviet camp to that of the free world and the United States. To achieve this objective, he recognized that he would have to make peace with Israel. Arafat opposed Sadat’s initiative. And, incidentally, so did Carter, who initially misread what Sadat’s objectives were and kept inserting provisions about Palestinian nationalism that obstructed the negotiations and ran counter to what Sadat was hoping to achieve.

It has been said that “insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Whoever said it was no diplomat.

Diplomats appear determined to refuse to learn from history.

(JNS / CAMERA) “Diplomacy,” Winston Churchill once remarked, “is the art of telling people to go to hell in such a way that they ask for directions.” And in a Nov. 29, 2022 Washington Post op-ed, two former U.S. diplomats told a key American ally, Israel, to do just that.

Aaron David Miller and Daniel Kurtzer spent decades serving the United States in key diplomatic roles, many of them relating to the Middle East and the Israel-Arab conflict. Recently, the two penned a Post op-ed entitled, “Biden should respond boldly to a radical Netanyahu government,” in which they call for the president of the United States to, among other things, place conditions on arms sales to Israel and interfere in the country’s domestic politics.

Yet the Post column is plagued by shoddy analysis and selective outrage.

Miller and Kurtzer claim that the incoming Netanyahu government is comprised of individuals with “anti-democratic values” that are “inimical” to the United States. Netanyahu, they argue, has “midwifed the most extreme government in the history” of the Jewish state. As proof, they cite deals that the future and former premier made with other individuals, and other political parties, to reach the necessary threshold to get a majority in Israel’s parliamentary system.

Netanyahu “cut a deal with convicted inciter of hatred and violence Itamar Ben Gvir and made him minister of national security, with far-reaching authority for the West Bank, Jerusalem and mixed Arab-Jewish cities in Israel proper.” And “Bezalel Smotrich, who has called for the expulsion of Arabs, is in line to run the finance ministry, with additional authority over the Civil Administration, which governs the West Bank.” Additionally, Avi Maoz, who “proudly espouses a fierce anti-LGBTQ agenda,” has been made a deputy in the prime minister’s office in charge of “Jewish identity.”

All of this, Miller and Kurtzer claim, is “unprecedented” and “threatens to put to rest the already-moribund two-state solution.”

The two diplomats proceed to veer into the speculative. The incoming coalition’s agenda could “be marked by increased settlement activity and land confiscation, violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, terrorist attacks against Israelis, efforts to change the status quo by legitimizing Jewish prayer on the Noble Sanctuary/Temple Mount and loosened rules regarding the use of force against both Palestinians in the West Bank and Arab citizens of Israel.”

All of this is pure speculation on the part of Miller and Kurtzer. However, it is worth noting that they preemptively blame Israel for terrorist attacks against Israelis and are opposed to Jews, but not Muslims, praying at a Jewish holy site. This is curiously one-sided and, coming from two individuals who are expressing concerns about bigotry, darkly ironic.

The two also argue that the new coalition could lead to “violent confrontations between Israelis and Palestinians”—even “another serious round of fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, as occurred in May 2021.”

However, “violent confrontations” already occur between Israelis and Palestinians—the result, in part, of the ruling Palestinian Authority paying tax deductible salaries to murder and maim Jews. Oddly, Miller and Kurtzer don’t call for cutting or conditioning aid to the P.A., despite its reprehensible “pay to slay” policy.

As for the May 2021 war, that was launched by Iranian proxies at the behest their benefactor. As CAMERA has documented, Iran even admitted as much. Indeed, Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, is seeking to use its proxies to surround and destroy the Jewish state. Part of this plan includes taking over the P.A.-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria.

None of this is breaking news. It should lead those advocating for U.S. interests to want to ensure a leading democratic ally is strong and has American support. Instead, Miller and Kurtzer call for weakening the Jewish state because they don’t like the results of its democratic elections. Curiously, they don’t apply this standard to the Palestinian Authority, which not only incentivizes and celebrates terrorist attacks in school curriculum and on official media, but hasn’t held elections since 2006. The P.A. is dependent on foreign aid.

As for the “moribund” two-state solution, both Miller and Kurtzer omit that the P.A. has rejected numerous U.S. and Israeli offers for a Palestinian state in exchange for peace with Israel, including in 2000 at Camp David, 2001 at Taba and 2008 after the Annapolis Conference. The latter offer included more than 93% of the disputed territories, land swaps for the remainder and a capital in eastern Jerusalem. P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas declined that proposal. He also rejected similar offers in 2014 and 2016—the latter brought by then-Vice President Joe Biden himself. Indeed, Palestinian leaders have been rejecting offers for statehood in exchange for peace with a Jewish state for eight decades, preferring war and terrorism instead. If the two-state solution is “moribund,” the culprit is clear—and one doesn’t need to be a former State Department envoy to figure out just who it is.

Miller and Kurtzer’s argument that the U.S. should restrict aid to Israel and refuse meetings with certain Israeli officials is hypocritical. Neither have penned op-eds calling for ending aid to the P.A. Neither had an issue with U.S. officials meeting with P.A. leaders, including former terrorists. The first head of the P.A., Yasser Arafat, was a terrorist with both American and Israeli blood on his hands. His successor, Abbas, reportedly helped finance terrorist attacks, was a Soviet agent and continues to dole out money to those who murder Jews and Americans like U.S. veteran Taylor Force.

Miller and Kurtzer, however, are fine with U.S. officials meeting with men like Arafat and Abbas. What can explain this hypocrisy? Perhaps the bigotry of low expectations. Miller and Kurtzer don’t expect better from Palestinian leaders and, unsurprisingly, there’s little to no improvement in the fiercely anti-democratic Palestinian political sphere. They claim that the “Palestinian Authority is unable to control violence and terror.” Infantilizing the P.A. and depriving Palestinians of independent agency and responsibility is hardly a path to peace—as Miller and Kurtzer themselves should know.

Indeed, in an op-ed that runs hundreds of words, they expend a single sentence calling for the U.S. to tell Palestinian leaders that they need to hold elections and “curb violence and terrorism.” Yet the Oslo Accords that created the P.A. (and which remain the basis for both its legitimacy and continued U.S. support) explicitly call for Palestinian leaders to reject terrorism. As CAMERA has documented, first Arafat and then Abbas broke that pledge. And yet the U.S. continued to support the P.A., long after its adherence to terrorism and rejectionism was made clear. Perhaps some reflection is in order.

Additionally, the claim that the incoming Israeli coalition will include elements with “extreme” views is also selective. The previous coalition included members of Ra’am, an Arab Islamist party whose views are decidedly, to use Miller and Kurtzer’s phrase, “anti-LGBTQ” and “anti-democratic.” Several Ra’am members have also made hateful remarks and praised terrorist attacks. Yet Miller, Kurtzer and, for that matter, The Washington Post’s editorial board, happily supported that coalition. Neither former diplomat called to condition aid on account of Ra’am’s inclusion. One could be forgiven for having the impression that their outrage is based less on principles and more on antagonism aimed at Netanyahu and Israel’s democratic process.

Perhaps most damningly, both Miller and Kurtzer call to hinder progress towards peace when it’s not on their terms. The two argue that “the Biden administration needs to inform the Abraham Accord countries—the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan—that their evident lack of interest in the plight of the Palestinians will undermine their relationship with Israel and damage their credibility in advancing other regional objectives with the United States.” This is truly astonishing.

By all accounts, the Abraham Accords constitute the most positive trend in the Middle East in decades. At great risk, several Arab and Muslim nations have pursued better relations with Israel. In some cases, the ties between these nations and the Jewish state are more expansive, including at the cultural level, than previous peace agreements between Egypt and Israel or Jordan and Israel. The Accords came about, in part, due to a commitment to discard old, failed attempts to bring peace to the region. Notably, one of the chief forces in bringing about the Abraham Accords was David Friedman, a U.S. ambassador to Israel whose nomination Miller and Kurtzer vocally opposed.

Seeking to punish and castigate countries that are pursuing peace with a chief non-NATO ally defies both common sense and good strategy. The Biden administration, like the Trump administration before it, is currently engaged in a global competition with China. Punishing key regional allies and offending potential new ones is bad strategy. One doesn’t need to be a Kissinger or a Metternich to grasp this fact.

It also reveals both Miller and Kurtzer to be poor students of history and the many lessons it offers policymakers.

For example, President Jimmy Carter nearly self-sabotaged what is perhaps his greatest foreign policy triumph: The Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt. In the 1970s, Egyptian leader Anwar al-Sadat sought Western support, hoping to move from the Soviet camp to that of the free world and the United States. To achieve this objective, he recognized that he would have to make peace with Israel. Arafat opposed Sadat’s initiative. And, incidentally, so did Carter, who initially misread what Sadat’s objectives were and kept inserting provisions about Palestinian nationalism that obstructed the negotiations and ran counter to what Sadat was hoping to achieve.

It has been said that “insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Whoever said it was no diplomat.

21st century antisemitism is deeply bound up with the “palestinian” national movement and its lies of being the indigenous populace in the Land of Israel. Through intersectionality, historical distortion, and the false projection of an oppressor/oppressed paradigm on the Israel-“palestine” dispute, the surge in leftwing antisemitism has overtaken the historically white nationalist type of antisemitism.

According to the ADL there was a 24% increase in antisemitic incidents in NYC compared to 2020, for a total of 416 incidents in 2021. Naturally, not all of these are assaults were related to Israel, but the merger of the new strand of antisemitism that the “palestinian” national movement has unleashed has no doubt inspired much of the uptick.

Perhaps the most alarming development is the partnership between Kanye West and Nick Fuentes. The first is a black antisemite and the second is a white supremacist. This is an unlikely partnership, that is of course unless both find the target of their hate is far more important than their own hate for each other. This is why today’s antisemitism is serious and if not faced has the potential to make Jewish life in America even more temporal than it already is.
