Mormon Mossionaries came by on Tuesday 6/27. Here is the gist of our discussion.
I started by telling them:
"GOD told me to listen to you...to really hear what you are saying. So I put my ear to hear what was being said in the PAMPHLET "The Restoration" and I plan to do the same in all the pamphlets you have given me."
PAMPHLET: THE RESTORATION
I told them, instead of disecting each word and sentence, I listened carefully. This is what I heard. Let me read all that I wrote down and then we can go back to address each question.
Here are my questions and comments:
1. Does the prophet make it possible to be forgiven? (P. 7)
2. Is the Bible a record of Jesus.what he did and taught? (P.

.
3. Is Joseph Smith a spokesperson of God as stated in Hebrews 1:1-2? Did Joseph Smith die for our sins? (P.11)
4. Am I allowed to ask for wisdom from God and ask what I should do?
5. Joseph Smith asked for wisdom and (P.11-12):
a. Jesus appeared to him.
b. Jesus spoke to him.
c. God exalted Joseph Smith (in the. same way as Adam, Abraham, Moses, etc).
d. God called Joseph Smith.
e. Joseph Smith received priesthood authority by Jesus and John the Baptist. called the Aaronic Priesthood.
f. Peter, James, and John appeared and gave Joseph Smith the Melchezadeck Priesthood.
g. Joseph Smith was directed to organize the church.
h. Through Joseph Smith Jesus called his 12 Apostles.
i. Through Joseph Smith, God brought forth the Book of Mormon.
j. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon.
5. The Book of Mormon is convincing evidence of the restoration of the gospel through Joseph Smith. (P.15)
6. The Holy Ghost will confirm what Joseph Smith did, said, saw, heard and believes is true (P.16).
That's putting a lot of faith in Joseph Smith. THE GOSPEL OF JOSEPH SMITH
If God is speaking through His Son in these Last Days, what is the role or need of the prophet Joseph Smith?
If God speaks through Jesus and He speaks to me (as my testimony confirms), are you saying that I need to now go through Joseph Smith to hear from God? Must I go through Joseph Smith (and the Mormon Church) to be saved? (No answer)
They were unsure of themselves and wanted me to read Hebrews 1:1-2. They were lost at what to say. Hmmm. I hit something. Did I finally get them off script?
If God speaks through Jesus in these last days, why didnt Jesus say anything about Joseph Smith or the Book of Mormon?
They went to Amos 37:15-17.
Where does Jesus say anything about what you are telling me?
They began to go back on script sayng that Jesus came to a people in the Americas to tell them about his gospel...You said God told you to listen to us. We believe the Holy Spirit is speaking to you.
Realizing they were back on script, I thanked them and said I will continue to listen and really hear what is being said as I read through their material and ask questions as I go.
I allowed them to end the night with their dignity, trusting the WORD of GOD never returns void. I do not think they heard their own message said back to them in this way before.
