Family Group Cries Foul as Male Who Identifies as Female Competes Against Girls in State Track Meet
By Heather Clark on June 6, 201619 Comments
Wangyot-compressedHAINES, Alaska — A family group in Alaska is crying foul after it became aware that a male student at Haines High School who identifies as female is being permitted to compete against girls on the school’s track team and at the state championship.
Nattaphon “Ice” Wangyot, 18, a senior at the high school, recently qualified for the 100-meter and 200-meter finals, but some female students question whether it is fair for him to compete on a girls’ team.
“I’m glad that this person is comfortable with who they are and they’re able to be happy in who they are, but I don’t think it’s competitively completely 100-percent fair,” Saskia Harrison of Fairbanks Hutchison High School told KTVA-TV.
“Genetically, a guy has more muscle mass than a girl, and if he’s racing against a girl, he may have an advantage,” said Peyton Young of Eagle River High School.
But Wangyot says that he takes female hormones regularly to suppress his testosterone levels, and finds support in his coaches

School Calls Police on Seven-Year-Old Who Brought Bible Verses to Read at Lunchtime
By Garrett Haley on June 6,
School Bible pdPALMDALE, Calif. – A seven-year-old first grader was recently reprimanded in front of his entire class and a police officer was dispatched to his family’s home because the child had brought notes with Bible verses on them to school.

Christina and Jaime Zavala live in Palmdale, California. In January, they enrolled their son in the first grade at Desert Rose Elementary School in the Palmdale School District, according to a recent letter from the nonprofit group Liberty Counsel. To encourage her son at school, Christina gave him brief notes to read during lunchtime. Each note included a Bible verse for him to read.
The Zavalas’ son, identified as “C” in the Liberty Counsel’s letter, began telling his classmates about his mother’s encouraging notes and began reading the Bible verses to them. Each day, several students would gather around C to hear the lunchtime notes and Bible verses written by Christina.
“After this had occurred for some time, one friend asked for a copy of the Bible verse, that he, too, could have,” the Liberty Counsel letter explains. “C relayed the request to his mother, who began to send a Bible verse for C, and one for his friend. Soon, five more students asked C for a Bible verse, and C brought additional copies for them, as well. The notes grew to include a short story providing context for the Bible verse, which C would read to the children.”
However, in April, C’s first grade teacher learned of Christina’s note-writing when a girl in her class came up to her one day and said, “Teacher, this is the most beautiful story I have ever seen—C gave it to me.” When the teacher saw that the “beautiful story” on the note was from the Bible, she told C in front of the other students that he was not allowed to share the Bible stories at school but would instead have to stand outside the school gate after the bell rang.
The teacher also called C’s mother to explain the situation.
“Please tell your son that there is a separation of church and state,” the teacher reportedly told Christina.

bodnariu-compressedOSLO, Norway — Following a seven month battle, the Norwegian government has agreed to return the four remaining children who were seized from their parents last November after a school principal expressed concern over the children’s “religious upbringing.”
“Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! The Bodnariu family will be reunited!” reads a statement released by spokesman Pastor Cristian Ionescu. “The Naustdal Municipality of Norway has come to terms with Marius and Ruth Bodnariu for the return home of all of their five children.”
As previously reported, in November, the Barnevernet seized Marius and Ruth Bodnariu’s two daughters, two sons and baby Ezekiel. The two eldest children were reportedly removed from school without their parents knowledge, and then Barnevarnet representatives arrived with police at the Bodnariu home, where welfare services seized the remaining children, minus the baby.

Trans-Species? Men Who Live Like Dogs Featured in Documentary on ‘Human Pups’
By Heather Clark on May 30, 2016
Pups-compressedMANCHESTER, U.K. — In the midst of national discussion on transgender issues, the trend of men dressing up and behaving like dogs, known as “pup play,” was recently discussed in a new documentary on “The Secret Life of Human Pups.”
The documentary, produced by Britain’s Channel 4, features a variety of English men who live like dogs in their private lives—a movement that often involves living with a handler, dressing in a rubber canine suit, barking to communicate, fetching balls, having your belly rubbed and other dog-like behavior.
“In the U.K., there are estimated to be 10,000 human pups: men who dress in elaborate dog suits and behave like dogs. This remarkable documentary explores their hidden world,” a description of the production outlines.
Director Guy Simmonds says that he wasn’t aware that the concept was so prevalent in the country until researching the matter in greater depth. He decided to film a documentary on the subject after running across online photos of men engaging in pup play.
“On the surface you’d think it was a few people dressing up as dogs behind closed doors. But the more we researched it, the more surprised I was to learn how large the community was in the U.K.,” he told Newsweek. “They’ve got their own social networking sites, events and competitions.”

Lentz Winfrey-compressedPhoto Credit: Carl Lentz/Facebook NEW YORK -- Hipster Hillsong NYC leader Carl Lentz has drawn concerns over the past week after he posted a photograph on social media announcing his upcoming appearance on Oprah Winfrey's "Super Soul Sunday" television broadcast. "I really enjoyed my time with @oprah filming for her Super Soul
Sunday show,” he wrote on May 18. “She is truly a special woman and a culture changer. To come from absolute poverty in Mississippi and reach the point where she became the first African American multi-billionaire takes a passion and drive that is exceptional and tireless.”
He continued to praise the talk show host, and said that others should emulate Oprah’s practice of thanking Jesus with each new day.
“What struck me most about her, was her ease and kindness,” Lentz remarked. “She told me her key was ‘waking up each day and thanking Jesus for loving me and thanking Him for all he has done.’ That practice, in that order, is one to be copied.”
The Hillsong leader also stated that he was thankful for the opportunity to talk about spiritual matters on Oprah’s broadcast.

Obama Issues Annual Proclamation Calling Upon Americans to ‘Celebrate’ June as ‘LGBT Pride Month’
Jun 02, 2016 08:41 am
As the most vocal president in American history in regard to homosexuality and transgenderism, Barack Obama issued on Tuesday his eighth annual proclamation calling upon Americans to "celebrate diversity" in observing June as "LGBT Pride Month." "Since our founding, America has advanced on an unending path toward becoming a more perfect Union," he wrote in his lengthy proclamation, which praised advocates who seek to change the nation’s laws for homosexual causes.
“The fight for dignity and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people is reflected in the tireless dedication of advocates and allies who strive to forge a more inclusive society,” Obama said. “They have spurred sweeping progress by changing hearts and minds and by demanding equal treatment—under our laws, from our courts, and in our politics.”
Therefore, he said, “This month, we recognize all they have done to bring us to this point, and we recommit to bending the arc of our Nation toward justice.”

Scientists Beginning to Doubt Discovery Once Touted as Evidence for Evolution
May 29, 2016 11:21 am
BacteriaAn influential scientific discovery that was once celebrated as compelling evidence for evolution may require reinterpretation, according to a growing number of scientists and researchers. In 2008, biologist Richard Lenski of Michigan State University jubilantly announced that he had witnessed a “major evolutionary innovation.”   Lenski, as part of his Long-Term Experimental Evolution (LTEE) project, had been carefully observing the bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) reproduce in a lab. Finally, after 20 years and 31,000 E. coli generations, Lenski noticed that one of the bacteria populations had seemingly mutated and acquired the ability to process the chemical citrate when oxygen was present.

911 Audio Reveals Baby Was ‘Breathing,’ ‘Moving’ After Attempted Arizona Abortion   May 30, 2016 12:00 pm
Photo Credit: Markus KniggePhoto Credit: Markus Knigge PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Newly-released audio footage of a 911 call from an Arizona abortion facility reveals that a child who had been scheduled for an abortion was breathing and moving after exiting the womb. The incident occurred in February at Family Planning Associates in Phoenix, Arizona, operated by abortionist Edward Allred.
The child’s 27-year-old mother had arrived to complete the abortion of her 21-week-old (5 month old) baby, which is “legal” under Arizona law. She had taken an abortifacient two days prior as per the facility’s instructions, which was to have stopped the child’s heartbeat.
However, the baby survived the medicinal stage of the abortion, and the mother went into labor as the surgical procedure began.
Abortionist Eleanor Stanley asserted that she found no heartbeat after the baby was born, but when workers noticed the baby moving on the scale, one exclaimed, “Oh my G**! This fetus is moving!”  They then called 911. It is required under federal law for abortionists to provide medical care to survivor infants and not leave them to die.

Inscriptions Found in Ancient Fortress Support Biblical Timeline, Challenge Skeptics
By Garrett Haley on May 9, 2016
TEL AVIV, Israel – A team of Israeli researchers has found evidence that literacy was widespread among ancient Israelites, thus challenging critics of the Bible who claim most people in Old Testament times were illiterate. Critics of the Bible have long alleged that Israelites prior to the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. were largely illiterate. Therefore, they argue, many of the Old Testament books were written after the destruction of Jerusalem, which is much later than the Bible suggests.
“The epigraphic evidence simply does not support the contention that the average pastoralist or agriculturalist in Israelite society was literate,” wrote Chris Rollston in his book “Writing and Literacy in the World of Ancient Israel: Epigraphic Evidence from the Iron Age.” “This is a marvelous romantic notion, but I simply do not find credible evidence of widespread literacy of the non-elite masses.”
However, a recently-published study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) suggests that literacy levels among Israelites around 600 B.C. were indeed higher than Rollston and others claim. The study’s authors, all researchers affiliated with Tel Aviv University, analyzed 16 inscriptions written prior to the 586 B.C. Babylonian destruction. They were discovered in an ancient fortress in Arad, which is in southern Israel.
“The inscriptions contain military commands regarding movement of troops and provision of supplies (wine, oil, and flour) set against the background of the stormy events of the final years before the fall of Judah,” the researchers wrote. “They include orders that came to the fortress of Arad from higher echelons in the Judahite military system, as well as correspondence with neighboring forts. … They are addressed to a person named Eliashib, the quartermaster in the fortress.”
Upon close analysis, the Tel Aviv University researchers found that at least six authors contributed to the inscriptions, leading the researchers to conclude that “a significant number of literate individuals can be assumed to have lived in Judah [around 600 B.C.].”
“The results indicate that in this remote fort literacy had spread throughout the military hierarchy, down to the quartermaster and probably even below that rank,” the researchers wrote. “This implies that an educational infrastructure that could support the composition of literary texts in Judah already existed before the destruction of the first Temple.”
Connect with Christian News
It is therefore likely, the study’s authors reasoned, that Old Testament books like Deuteronomy, Joshua, and the Books of Kings were in fact written prior to Jerusalem’s destruction.
“[T]he written evidence suggests a high degree of literacy in the entire Judahite chain of command,” they said.
In an article published last week on the Answers in Genesis, Avery Foley explained why these findings are important.
“This new study supports the accuracy of God’s Word,” Foley wrote. “It demonstrates that Israel was more literate than many scholars believe. This means that prophets—even prophets who were common folk such as Amos, a shepherd (Amos 1:1)—could have been literate and able to pen their writings.”
These findings published in PNAS are yet another example of rigorous scientific research supporting the credibility of Scripture, Foley said.
“We have an imperfect and incomplete understanding of history and science, but God’s Word was ultimately written by the God who was there and who never lies (Titus 1:2),” she stated. “Beginning with God’s Word, we have an accurate starting point for studying the world around us. When science or popular thought seems to contradict God’s Word, it is not God’s Word that needs modification, but rather our interpretations of the evidence.”
“The more we study the remains of lost civilizations, the more evidence will be found that, when properly understood, confirms God’s Word,” Foley concluded. “As Christians, we can have full and utter confidence in the Word of our Lord.”

Over 100 United Methodist clergy came out as homosexual or transgender this week in a letter publicly addressed to the denomination in an effort to draw attention to the issue ahead of the General Conference and to seek acceptance despite policies that prohibit practicing homosexuals from serving in the ministry. "hile we have sought to remain faithful to our call and covenant, you have not always remained faithful to us,” the letter, released by Reconciling Ministries Network, asserts.
“While you have welcomed us as pastors, youth leaders, district superintendents, bishops, professors, missionaries and other forms of religious service, you have required that we not bring our full selves to ministry, that we hide from view our sexual orientations and gender identities,” it says. As previously reported, the United Methodist Book of Discipline outlines that “the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching” and that “self-avowed practicing homosexuals” may not be ordained as ministers in the denomination.

DNA 2When did human ethnic groups originate? And can the biblical young earth viewpoint explain differences between races today? One research biologist says the biblical model, not evolution, accurately accounts for human DNA diversity today. Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson is a PhD biologist with Answers in Genesis who studied Cell and Developmental Biology at Harvard University. In his latest article, published last week in Answers Research Journal, he considers “why African people groups tends to harbor more mitochaondrial DNA differences than non-African groups.”

‘Pope Francis’ Calls for Collaboration With World’s Religions, Those Who ‘Meet God in Different Ways’
By Heather Clark on January 9, 2016410 Comments

Vatican Video Joined-compressed (1)ROME — In his first-ever video declaring his “prayer intentions,” the Roman Catholic leader Jorge Bergoglio, also known as Pope Francis, called for dialogue and collaboration among those of the various world religions on Tuesday, asserting that they are simply “seeking or meeting God in different ways.”
“Most of the planet’s inhabitants declare themselves believers,” he states in the production released on the Feast of Epiphany. “This should lead to dialogue among religions. We should not stop praying for it and collaborating with those who think differently.”
The video then features clips of those from different world religions declaring belief in their various deities.

“I have confidence in Buddha,” a female lama announces.
“I believe in God,” a rabbi affirms.
“I believe in Jesus Christ,” a priest states.
“I believe in Allah,” an Islamic leader declares.
Connect with Christian NewsFollow @4christiannews
Francis contends that all the religions of the world simply represent mankind’s diversity in seeking God. He says that despite the differing beliefs, everyone is a child of the same God.
“Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways,” he states. “In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty that we have for all: we are all children of God.”
The video then provides footage of the pontiff meeting with and embracing those of various religions, including Buddhists, Islamists and Orthodox Jews. It again cuts to representatives of the world’s religions, who now declare the same statement: “I believe in love.”
“I hope you will spread my prayer request this month: that sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce fruits of peace and justice,” Francis states. “I have confidence in your prayers.”
Gendron
But not everyone is supportive of the Vatican’s call for unity and common ground. Mike Gendron of Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries of Plano, Texas told Christian News Network that the pontiff’s assertions that all mankind is “seeking or meeting God in different ways,” and that all are children of the same God, are flawed.
“Tragically, those who do not know the Bible or who refuse to submit to it as the supreme authority for truth, will be deceived by the pope’s latest pronouncement,” he stated. “The pope’s assertion that all mankind meets with/seeks after the same God, just in different ways, is false according to the word of God. No one seeks for (the true) God (Rom. 3:11), but there are many who seek after false gods of their own imagination or false gods of their religious traditions. The only way to meet with the true God is His way, through the one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus (1 Tim. 2:5).”
“The word of God reveals that the human race is made up of people who are either children of God or children of the devil (1 John 3:10),” Gendron explained. “The Lord Jesus soundly rebuked the religious leaders of His day for refusing to believe the truth of His Word (John 8:440-43). Jesus told them that their father was the devil, who is the father of lies (John 8:44).”
“This remains true today,” he continued. “The god of this world has created a variety of religions to blind all of his children from the light of the Gospel and the glory of Christ (2 Cor. 4:4).”
Gedron said that in one sense—although not deliberately—Francis is correct as all are children of the darkness by nature, but man only becomes a child of God when he is reborn in Christ.
“Everyone is a child of the ‘god of this world' until they exchange their religion for a relationship with the one true God through Jesus Christ,” he outlined. “Those who receive Jesus by believing in His name become children of God (John 1:12-13).”
Gendron, a former Roman Catholic, also opined that the pontiff’s ecumenicism is fulfilling prophesy about the formulation of a one world religion.
“As the pope continues to accelerate his ecumenical agenda to rebuild the religious tower of Babel, he will be fulfilling Bible prophecy. All the religions of the world already share a ‘works-righteousness’ salvation and they all are already united by a common spiritual bond,” he said.
“As we see the prophetic one-world religion forming, we know the children of the true God will have no part of it because they have been sanctified by the truth and sealed with the Holy Spirit (2 Thes. 2:13),” Gendron stated.

Trevor Phillips: Muslims are 'not like us'
The former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission has said that Britain should not expect Muslim communities to fully integrate. At a meeting at the Policy Exchange think tank on Monday, Trevor Phillips said that to expect Muslims to "become like the rest of us" was a "form of disrespect". Andrea Williams commented: "It is not disrespectful to require that, to live in our country, one must accept its laws and standards".

Lord Pearson speaks for Christian freedom

Lord Pearson asked on Wednesday whether new legislation would render it an anti-Muslim hate crime for Christians to speak of the divinity of Christ or read sections of the Bible aloud in public. The lord answering on behalf of the government said that such expression would never be a crime, but added that "anyone who preaches…hate has no place here". Sadly, later in the discussion, some lords indicated that they consider Christianity's exclusive truth claim 'divisive'.

Alan Craig gives thanks for recent successes

Christian campaigner Alan Craig has written a blog piece reflecting on the Lord's blessing on the brilliant campaign: MegaMosqueNoThanks, as well as on Baroness Cox's bill to combat the development of an Islamic parallel legal system in Britain. Plans for the east London 'mega mosque' were rejected in October 2015 by the then-Secretary of State. Baroness Cox's bill passed its final reading in the House of Lords and will now be considered in the House of Commons.

BILL CHALLENGING SHARIA LAW CLEARS THE HOUSE OF LORDS.
A bill seeking to protect women and challenge the application of sharia law in the UK has been approved by the House of Lords.
Baroness Cox's Arbitration and Mediation Services (Equality) Bill passed its third reading on Tuesday. It will now be handed over to the House of Commons for consideration. To become law, the bill will need an MP to sponsor it and steer it through the House of Commons.
Baroness Cox's bill, which has received support from Christian Concern, seeks to tackle the challenge of sharia councils, which fail to protect Muslim women adequately from violence and abuse. The bill also challenges the broader issue of the development of a parallel legal system based on sharia law within the UK.
It is estimated that around 30 sharia councils operate in Britain today. The ‘courts’ issue Islamic divorce certificates and advice on aspects of religious law.
A Dutch legal scholar, who was given a high level of access to sharia 'courts' in the UK, spoke of a woman who was told by a sharia ‘court’ judge to live in a polygamous marriage, rather than seek a religious divorce. Another woman was mocked for marrying a verbally and physically abusive man.
Many women are unaware that they have recourse outside of these 'courts', or they come under community pressures to submit to the rulings of sharia councils.
Andrea Williams, Christian Concern’s Chief Executive, said: "We continue to support this bill because we recognise the injustices Muslim women face in our country. We also recognise the danger of allowing Islamic law to operate as a quasi-legal system within the UK. Sharia law is utterly incompatible with the Christian principles upon which our nation was founded, and we cannot allow those principles to be eroded in the name of ‘tolerance’."

Pastor James McConnell hangs up on live radio interview
Thu 07 Jan 2016
By Antony Bushfield
An Evangelical pastor cleared of making grossly offensive remarks about Islam has hung up during a live radio interview discussing his case.
Pastor James McConnell called the religion "satanic" and a "doctrine spawned in hell" during a sermon broadcast online.
On Tuesday a judge ruled his remarks were offensive but they were not grossly offensive and he was found not guilty.
The 78-year-old faced two charges - improper use of a public electronic communications network and causing a grossly offensive message to be sent by means of a public electronic communications network - after the comments made from the pulpit of his Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle on May 18 2014 were streamed online.
He was appearing on the BBC's Radio 5 Live discussing the case with presenter Peter Allen.

Subjects taken by large numbers of students - for example GCSE English and maths - may be timetabled right at the start of the exams season, before the holy month begins in early June - or set at a time to lessen the effect on Muslim students, it has been revealed.
Ramadan, which Muslims observe by fasting during daylight hours, has been gradually moving into the summer exams season in England - which runs from the end of May and throughout most of June - over the last few years. This year it covers most of the exams period.
As the window available for students to sit papers is tight, exams would not be able to be delayed, but there is scope for movement within the regular schedule, it was suggested.

Disobedient wives are to blame for domestic violence, claims archbishop
Thu 07 Jan 2016
By Antony Bushfield
Women who 'do not obey men' have themselves to blame for any domestic abuse committed against them, a Spanish archbishop has claimed.
Braulio Rodriguez, who is the Archbishop of Toledo, has faced a backlash for his comments made during a Mass at Toledo Cathedral on 27 December.
His opinion has since been published in the parish bulletin.
The root cause of violence or abuse in the home was a woman's 'disobedience', he claimed.
"The majority of cases of domestic violence happen because the woman's partner does not accept them, or rejects them for not accepting their demands," he said.
The Metro reports he also criticised 'false marriages' and 'quickie divorces'.
According to the paper there has been a call for him to be jailed for inciting violence against women.
Small protests have taken place across Spain.

Pastor James McConnell not guilty of making grossly offensive remarks about Islam
Tue 05 Jan 2016
By Antony Bushfield
A Belfast pastor has been found not guilty of making grossly offensive remarks during a sermon in which he described Islam as "heathen".
Pastor James McConnell called the religion "satanic" and a "doctrine spawned in hell" during a sermon broadcast online.
He had always maintained it was his right to free speech and a judge has agreed.
Delivering his verdict, District Judge Liam McNally said: "The courts need to be very careful not to criminalise speech which, however contemptible, is no more than offensive. It is not the task of the criminal law to censor offensive utterances.
"Accordingly I find Pastor McConnell not guilty of both charges."
He added: "If he had clarified this in his sermon and set out in a clear and precise way why Sharia law was repugnant to him he could have saved himself a lot of trouble."
The 78-year-old faced two charges - improper use of a public electronic communications network and causing a grossly offensive message to be sent by means of a public electronic communications network - after the comments made from the pulpit of his Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle on May 18 2014 were streamed online.

Christian MP's faith drove him to resign from Corbyn's front bench
Christian MP Jonathan Reynolds has resigned as the Shadow Minister for Transport, in what is being dubbed the "revenge reshuffle".
Mr Reynolds, who represents Stalybridge and Hyde, told Premier's News Hour he had no option: "If you're going to be on the front bench of one of the two big parties you have to go along with more of a collective position, that's how our system works.
"And if you're not happy with some of that, or you simply want the freedom to say more, or you disagree with some of the decisions taken, I think the principle thing to do is to leave in a dignified fashion, which I've tried to do."
He told Premier's News Hour that it was his faith that drove his decision: "I personally feel it's not the decision for me to be part of the Labour front bench at this time.
"And I think that's who I am, a lot of people with the Christian faith with recognise those traits in themselves whatever jobs they do."
He said he consulted his family: "In terms of my decision it's not something I spoke about with anyone else other than my wife this morning.
"People will have to do what they think is best, but any party leader has to be able to command a wide ranging amount of support within their own political party."

Repent or quit threaten bishops over homosexual split
Sun 03 Jan 2016 By Hannah Tooley
Church leaders from Africa and Asia are threatening to walk out of talks, chaired by the Archbishop of Canterbury, unless American bishops drop their support for same-sex marriage.
It has been reported that Justin Welby has invited leaders from the Anglican Church from all over the world to a special summit in Canterbury to discuss issues in the church, according to The Mail on Sunday.
Homosexuality and the church has always been a controversial issue and the Church of England does not allow same sex marriage in church, this topic is expected to cause divides.
Lambeth Palace said: "The Archbishop has invited everyone.

Vatican recognises Palestine
Sun 03 Jan 2016 By Hannah Tooley
The Vatican has recognised Palestine as a state and says that it hopes a peaceful outcome will end the conflict in the region.
In 2012 the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution recognising Palestine as an observer non-member state.
At the time this was welcomed by the Vatican, which has the same observer non-member status at the UN.
An agreement signed last year has now come into effect.
The Vatican statement read: "With reference to the Comprehensive Agreement between the Holy See and the State of Palestine, signed on 26 June 2015, the Holy See and the State of Palestine have notified each other that the procedural requirements for its entry into force have been fulfilled, under the terms of Article 30 of the same Agreement.

"The Agreement, consisting of a Preamble and 32 articles, regards essential aspects of the life and activity of the Church in Palestine, while at the same time reaffirming the support for a negotiated and peaceful solution to the conflict in the region."

........and Vatican recognises Palestine as stateWed 13 May 2015 By Marcus Jones
The Vatican has officially recognised the state of Palestine in a move that has left Israel 'disappointed'.
Holy See officials agreed to a treaty today which makes clear the Church now considers Palestine to be a country in its own right.
The move had been expected since a decision by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 to recognise a Palestinian state was welcomed by the Vatican.
Vatican spokesman, Revd Federico Lombardi, said: "Yes, it's a recognition that the state exists".
A spokesperson for the Israeli foreign ministry said the country was "disappointed" by the Vatican's change in policy.
The Associated Press reports the ministry as having said: "This move does not promote the peace process and distances the Palestinian leadership from returning to direct and bilateral negotiations.
"Israel will study the agreement and will consider its steps accordingly."
It comes just days before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visits Pope Francis at the Vatican and two Arabic nuns are canonised.
Presenter of Premier's Middle East North Africa Analysis programme, Dr Harry Hagopian, told Premier it was a big announcement.
He said: "It means there will be disappointment and probably regret expressed by Israel but the Vatican is not only a political entity but it is also a moral authority which represents many Christians and the 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide."This has a very strong influence on that."

Most recently Mpho Tutu presided over her parents as they retook their vows after sixty years of marriage.

Church leaders unite to oppose abortion time extension in Scotland
Sun 03 Jan 2016
By Hannah Tooley
Church leaders, faith groups and pro-life organisations have formed a coalition to oppose the potential extension of the abortion time limit in Scotland.

The group, organised by the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) Scotland, is supported by number of different faith groups, including the Muslim Council of Scotland, the Free Church of Scotland and the Catholic Church in Scotland.
Plans are that abortion law will be devolved to Holyrood under the Scotland Bill, the package of powers aimed at delivering on the recommendations of the post-referendum Smith Commission.
However opponents to the move have warned that it could undermine the consensus on the current time limit of 24 weeks in which to undergo an abortion.
However, the Scottish Government has stated that it does not have any plans to change the law.
John Deighan, chief executive of SPUC Scotland and campaign co-ordinator, said: "The rights of the unborn child are facing new threats with the impending devolution of powers to the Scottish Parliament from Westminster.
"Already, well in advance of the transfer of legislative authority, we are hearing a clamour for further extension of the existing, excessively liberal law.
"This could see abortion legalised from the existing 24-week limit, in most cases, up until the point of birth.
"In response to these deeply disconcerting demands, pro-life supporters from different backgrounds, people of faith and none, in addition to concerned organisations and individuals have decided that we must stand together in the face of this onslaught."
Free Church of Scotland Moderator Revd David Robertson said the church was happy to join an alliance "which will spread the fight for justice in a bid to influence legal attitudes to the right of life".

Atheist hospital chaplain defends her role
Mon 04 Jan 2016
By Premier Journalist
Britain's first humanist hospital chaplain has defended her role, saying she has the backing of the NHS regulator.
Speaking to Premier Christian Radio on her first day as the Non-Religious Pastoral Carer for Leicester Hospitals NHS Trust, Jane Flint said: "This is about choice. The NICE guidelines have recognised that people who have non-religious belief also have a right to support in the same circumstances as those who have a religious belief."
The 63 year old trained psychotherapist will undertake the role for a two-year trial period, after which it could be made permanent.
Mark Burleigh, the head of chaplaincy and bereavement services for Leicester's Hospitals, said: "I think if hospital chaplaincy is going to be part of the NHS in future, it needs to be fully diverse."
Despite being the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, Ms Flint is an atheist and explained to Premier how she will comfort those who believe that there is no life after death.
"I'm there to witness their pain. I'm there to discuss their thoughts without any agenda of my own, and simply being there for somebody, giving them your undivided attention, is something we rarely experience in life.
Her appointment has been welcomed by the British Humanist Association. The BHA's head of pastoral support, David Savage, said: "Guidance from NHS England last year made it clear that NHS bodies in England were obliged to provide pastoral support and care to non-religious people on the same basis as chaplaincy is provided to the religious.

The media only shows religious extremism, says Catholic broadcaster
Sat 02 Jan 2016
By Hannah Tooley
Practicing Roman Catholic and BBC broadcaster, Adrian Chiles, has voiced concern that the media only sees religion in terms of fanaticism and does not reflect ordinary worshipers.
Adrian Chiles said that: "Jesus said, 'The meek will inherit the earth.'
"Well, they might do but they get no press coverage along the way at all, they're completely forgotten."
He added: "And I'm not just talking about Christians, I'm all about [all religions]."

Vatican is a "sacred monster" says PR accused of leaks
Sat 02 Jan 2016
By Hannah Tooley
A woman arrested as part of the Vatican leaks scandal has called the Vatican a "sacred monster" that is untouchable.
Francesca Chaouqui was a Vatican public relations expert until her arrest two months ago.
She has been charged with leaking confidential documents, a crime under Vatican law, and faces up to eight years behind bars.
She denies the charges.
The 33-year-old, as well as two others, are alleged to have stolen documents and leaked them to two journalists, Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi (pictured) also face charges.
The pair wrote two books respectively which hold allegations of financial misconduct among a number of other acts.
Speaking to The Guardian Francesa Chaouqui said that she is innocent and that she is willing to go to the Vatican jail if found guilty.
She said: "I took an oath of loyalty to that state, and that means accepting their rules, even if they are wrong.
"The Pope is not just head of state, he is the head of my religion, he is God on Earth.
"If they find me guilty, I must go."

Bethel Church: Heaven on Earth?
California’s most prominent charismatic church, led by Bill Johnson, divides opinion. Andy Peck finds out why some believe Bethel is seeing heaven come to earth, and others claim that it’s a deception
When God touches a church in revival, those who visit can find themselves caught up in it. My visit to Bethel for a Kingdom Culture conference a few years ago was taken partly as a journalist keen to chronicle revival around the world, but also as a Christian keen to encounter God.

I sensed the thousands in attendance were hungry too. The worship band led like a group who knew they were not merely singing praise but offering invitation for God to come in his manifest presence. And there was evidence that he did. Some broke out into uncontrollable laughter, some shed tears and others were convulsed by shrieks and groans.
It’s a church that quite frankly messes with you
When the senior pastor, Bill Johnson, spoke, it was with the assurance that God had good things for us. He speaks without notes, and jokes that he only has one sermon but it’s 500 hours long. His talks are always based on scriptural concepts but their direction is open – like a surfer waiting to see which wave he needs to ride – and liberally dosed with examples of how God works today.

He concluded each talk with a session where he received words of knowledge indicating what God was doing that night. Illnesses included blood disorders, lupus, digestive issues, whiplash, a bruised kidney, and testimonies were given of healing or partial healing to knees, ankles, necks and backs. It was electric.
MESSY CHURCH
Since that visit, the stream of people heading to Bethel has become a river, with tributaries flowing from throughout the world; notably North America, parts of Europe (including the UK) and Australia. Bethel’s music has also spread far and wide, as the songs of worship leaders on their Jesus Culture and Bethel Music labels have been picked up by church worship bands around the world.

There were 2,100 at Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry this year (900 from overseas, 200 of whom were from the UK) learning how to become revivalists, and many more who visit for shorter conferences and events. Of the 7,000 who are part of the church, some 2,500 are students or connected to the school. But Bethel is only partly a ‘come and see’ church. It’s also a ‘go and do’ church. It’s a church that quite frankly messes with you: your theology, your way of doing church and your view of your walk with Jesus. It’s not always comfortable.

Bill and Beni Johnson
This challenge comes from Johnson, who has been immersed in this ‘revival’ since 1996 when he arrived as pastor with a mandate to preach and seek revival. He believes every believer should live a supernatural life too. It’s in the same vein as John Wimber’s message from the mid-80s, but also in step with contemporary ‘revivalists’ such as John Arnott, Randy Clark and Heidi Baker. Johnson’s message is articulated in his books and sermons that he’s invited to give throughout the world. In some circles Bethel has become a shining symbol of what God can do and is doing, and in others an example of why ‘the charismatic movement’ has departed far from gospel orthodoxy.

So what kind of challenge is Bethel giving to the wider Church, and what should we make of it?
THE KIND OF GOD WE WORSHIP
Bethel’s core message includes the belief that because God is a loving Father, he wants to meet with his people. If Jesus healed all who came to him, why wouldn’t he continue to do so, through his presence in his people? If things aren’t happening, it’s due to no lack on his part. Johnson says every spirit filled believer can carry ‘revival’ to others. These beliefs are born by experience.

Pam Spinozi, who has been writing down the miracles at Bethel for the last nine years, says, ‘It’s not possible to say how many miracles... we hear about. Everything from a torn rotator cuff being healed to metal disappearing from someone’s body. I have folders of specific diseases: cancer, MS, Parkinson’s, for example.
‘I also keep a folder of creative miracles like when someone gets a new kidney; folders of provision testimonies and family reconciliation. I am happy to say I have a resurrections folder, too. God is doing very exciting things!’
But the church is also honest about when healing doesn’t occur. Johnson’s own father, and former pastor of Bethel, died in 2004 following Church-wide prayer for his healing, and key elders have died too. Johnson’s son Eric, who serves on the senior leadership team, is 85- 90% deaf in both ears. However, they refuse to allow this to dissuade them from seeking God for healing.
BETHEL'S FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Bethel’s leadership are not keen on denominationalism. They prefer to unite based on values, led by the spirit.

Bethel was part of the General Council of the Assemblies of God until January 2006 when the church membership voted to withdraw their affiliation. Today Bethel has relational partnerships with other apostolic leaders as part of what is known as The Revival Alliance.
As well as Bill and Benni Johnson, the team includes: Che and Sue Ahn of Harvest Ministries; John and Carol Arnott of Catch the Fire; Randy and DeAnne Clark of Global Awakening; Heidi and Rolland Baker of Iris Ministries and Georgian and Winnie Banov of Global Celebration.
This means Bethel primarily links with other movements birthed or connected with the outpouring of the Toronto Blessing (also known as The Father’s Blessing) in January 1994.
UNUSUAL MANIFESTATIONS
If healings and miracles are something Bethel has come to expect, there have also been a number of unexpected phenomena that have attracted attention, and led many to write the church off as an esoteric fad. Firstly there were the accounts of bird feathers appearing in services, then gold dust in the air and on people’s hands.

Founder of the School of Supernatural Ministry, Kris Vallotton, wrote of the events: ‘I don’t think we have taken more ridicule for anything than [the] gold dust and feathers. It all began one day while someone was preaching, and these tiny white feathers started falling from the ceiling in the sanctuary…No birds, feathers, or nests were discovered anywhere in the signs of ductwork or the ceiling. It also started to happen in people’s homes. It always happens when we are talking about the things of God. The phenomena tends to come and go.’
Then there’s the so-called ‘glory cloud’: a sparkling gold cloud that seemed to appear at the side of the stage during several worship services and which was even captured on amateur video.
British-born Carrie Lloyd, one of the Revival Group pastors at the school, says, ‘We haven’t actually had a glory cloud for about 18 months. I first saw it in my first year, on a Friday night service. I started walking to it as I could see some tiny particles that were platinum-coloured moving in a figure of eight, from the ground upwards. Stepping into the cloud was a very different story. As soon as I went into it I was on my knees in repentance, apologising for my previous scepticism. When part of my body was in the cloud, it felt something different from the part that wasn’t. It was a feeling of complete glory and being overwhelmed by God’s goodness and kindness.’

A 'fire tunnel' at Bethel
Johnson has reminded critics that God often does something that could give ‘offence’ to onlookers. Some of the manifestations in other recent ‘revivals’ in Toronto, Brownsville and Pensacola included phenomena that were written off by sceptics. They say that being ‘slain in the spirit’, uncontrollable laughter and having teeth filled with gold fillings are all evidence of a movement it’s wise to stay well clear of. Yet, historians of revivals would say that God often confounds onlookers when he is at work. As Johnson himself has said: ‘You can’t invite God into your house and not expect to have something outside of the box happen.’

UNUSUAL MIRACLES AND METHODS
Bethel has developed a range of unusual ways of bringing people inside and outside the Church into connection with God.

Fire tunnels
Two rows of Christians form a tunnel by linking raised arms. As the congregation walk through the tunnel, the Christians pray for God to bless those who walk and in many cases they are overcome with God’s presence and barely able to walk, or laugh uncontrollably. ‘Fire tunnels’ are often used at the end of conferences and events.

Treasure hunting
Introduced by Kevin Dedmon, ‘treasure hunting’ is a method of supernatural evangelism which takes prophetic and healing prayer out of the church and onto the streets. Teams will ask God for prophetic words about people they will meet later that day. These might be to do with appearance, location, ailments, names or particular words. When encountering people who fit the description, treasure hunters ask if they might be ‘God’s treasure’, perhaps showing the words written down, and offer to pray for them, for healing or any other need.

Life Resurrection teams
These teams pray in the local hospital for people who have died to be restored to life. In one hospital, patients are asked if they want the Life Resurrection team to pray for them in the event that they die.

SERVING THE CITY
If you are reading this with increasing incredulity, Bethel may also complicate your idea of how you can best connect with your community. Speaking of how Bethel have engaged with Redding’s population of 90,000, Valotton says, ‘The Lord spoke to us about people in our city who are Romans 13 people, they are civic leaders who are called “ministers of God” [by Paul]. We went to our city manager and sat down with him and said, “We have a heart to see our city prosper. We believe that God divinely put you in this position. The first thing we want to do is to start giving 10% of our outreach tithe to the city.”’

The manager started suggesting ways to use the money that might please the church, but Vallotton made it clear that wasn’t their intention.
The impossible has become a possibility
‘The principle is that we lay the money at our leaders’ feet and trust you to disperse the money as you see fit. We ask that you keep this private and just that we meet annually to discuss what may be needed and take special offerings for particular projects.’

Charlie Harper, head of Projects at Bethel, has spoken of the tension that was initially created by the church’s activity: ‘The Civic Centre was due to shut and so we came up with a solution to make it work. Some groups were upset, believing that this “cult” was going to take over their centre, and so for a while there were protests with placards! But over time most have been won around. We managed to double the bookings in the first year and our students have been able to work each week on beautifying the city, amounting to thousands of hours of volunteer labour.’
Vallotton has travelled internationally to share the approach that they have taken, including addressing MPs at the House of Commons. He believes Bethel’s model could be spread across the nations.
CONTINUOUS REVIVAL
When it comes to Bethel’s use and understanding of the term ‘revival’, again the church has a slightly different take. Delighted by God’s sovereign works, they aim to develop ‘revivalists’ who know who they are in God and are able to see him touch all who they meet, wherever they are and whatever they are doing. Typical of this would be the occasion that evangelist Chad Dedmon saw a woman healed in Walmart which so excited the cashier it led to the surprising announcement over the store tannoy – ‘God is healing people in aisle 3!’

Kris Vallotton prays for worshippers
Johnson has looked at historic revivals that have typically lasted a relatively short time, and asks, ‘Why couldn’t we be the first church to see the revival we are part of stretch across the generations, so that our ceiling becomes the next generation’s floor?’

So, predictably, Johnson is even messing with the standard idea of revival. Is this the outworking of the often-anticipated revival when many churches were touched by a new outpouring emanating from Toronto 20 years ago?
MESSED UP?
Predictably, such a church has had a fair degree of criticism. Many have questions about whether the miracles and manifestations should have such a prominent place in church life. They argue that this can undermine the gospel, and be counterproductive in our evangelism. Some have a problem with any suggestion that apostolic and prophetic ministries are still at work today.

Other criticism tends to centre on two areas of theology. The first is Johnson’s view that Jesus, though fully God, served as a man full of the spirit and so performed miracles through the spirit. As such he serves as an example for us today who, as spirit-filled believers, can do similar things. They argue that this undermines the deity of Jesus (though Johnson strongly denies this).
The second concerns Bethel’s theology of suffering. Calvinists in particular have a problem with Johnson’s belief that we can never conclude that God has sent suffering to us. Johnson believes that God’s will is always to heal, whereas Calvinist doctrine holds that God wills and uses suffering for his greater glory.
There are also those who write off Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry as ‘Hogwarts for Christians’. If you can train people to do miracles, how can the miracles be from God? They claim that Bethel and churches like it have drifted into heresy, chasing signs and wonders.
So how do we tell if this is God at work or not? My questions regarding any church like Bethel have always been: Does this fit with what scripture leads us to expect? And does it give the kinds of fruit that the gospel demands? As far as I can see, the answer to both of these questions is ‘yes’.
The sick are healed, demons are cast out and people are honouring one another above themselves. The lost are finding Christ and a new generation of young people are excited about a God who loves them. Signs, wonders and miracles that many thought impossible now suddenly seem possible. There is much about Bethel that still puzzles me, and messes with my theology. But that sounds rather like the kind of things that Jesus would be doing, doesn’t it?

Billy Graham’s Muslims Are ‘Saved’ Remarks Revived After Son Franklin Opposes ‘Same God’ Professor

Billy_Franklin_Graham-compressedRemarks from Billy Graham asserting that Muslims and those of other religions who “turn to the only light they have” without consciously trusting Christ are saved—despite clear warning in Scripture—have come back to light after his son Franklin Graham, the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), expressed disagreement with a Wheaton professor who contends that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.
As previously reported, associate professor Larycia Hawkins posted to Facebook two photos of herself wearing a hijab earlier this month, and stated in a lengthy explanation that she plans to wear it everywhere she goes during the Advent—including at the professedly Christian college and to church.
“I stand in human solidarity with my Muslim neighbor because we are formed of the same primordial clay, descendants of the same cradle of humankind—a cave in Sterkfontein, South Africa that I had the privilege to descend into to plumb the depths of our common humanity in 2014,” Hawkins wrote.
x
She said that not only does she have a common ancestry with Muslims, but that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.
“I stand in religious solidarity with Muslims because they, like me, a Christian, are people of the book,” Hawkins asserted. “And as Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same God.”
In light of controversy over the matter, the professor was suspended by university officials and placed under review. Some Wheaton students protested her suspension, calling for Hawkins to be reinstated.
Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, who graduated from Wheaton in 1943, expressed dismay over Hawkins’ actions and statements in a social media post on Wednesday.
Connect with Christian News
“Can you believe this Wheaton College professor who says she’s going to wear a hijab for the holidays this year to show solidarity with Islam? Shame on her!” he wrote.
Graham Screenshot“She said that Muslims and Christians worship the same God. Well she is absolutely wrong—she obviously doesn’t know her Bible and she doesn’t know Islam,” Graham continued. “The God of the Bible has a Son named Jesus Christ. The god of Islam doesn’t have a son, and even the thought of that would be sacrilegious to Muslims. The God of the Bible sent His Son to earth to die in our place and save us from our sins.”
Graham’s remarks come in contrast to those made by his father in 1997 while being interviewed on Robert Schuller’s “Hour of Power.” During the segment, Graham stated that Muslims and those of other religions may be saved without hearing of Christ or reading the Scriptures in realizing that they “need something,” although not pinpointing what it is.
“I think that everybody that loves Christ or knows Christ—whether they’re conscious of it or not, they’re members of the Body of Christ,” Billy Graham said. “And that’s what God is doing today. He’s calling people out of the world for His name.”
“Whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world, or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ because they’ve been called by God,” Graham continued. “They may not even know the name of Jesus, but they know in their heart that they need something that they don’t have, and they turn to the only light that they have.”
“And I think that they are saved, and that they’re going to be with us in Heaven,” he declared.
Schuller then sought clarification on Graham’s remarks.
“What I hear you saying that it’s possible for Jesus Christ to come into human hearts and soul and life, even if they’ve been born in darkness and have never had exposure to the Bible. Is that a correct interpretation of what you’re saying?” he asked.
“Yes, it is, because I believe that,” Graham replied. “I’ve met people in various parts of the world in tribal situations, that they have never seen a Bible or heard about a Bible, and never heard of Jesus, but they’ve believed in their hearts that there was a God, and they’ve tried to live a life that was quite apart from the surrounding community in which they lived.”
In 2005, when asked by talk show host Larry King if Muslims and others will go to Heaven even though they don’t believe in Christ, Graham replied, “That’s in God’s hands. I can’t be the judge.”
“How do you feel when you see a lot of these strong Christian leaders go on television and say, ‘You are condemned. You will live in Hell if you do not accept Jesus Christ,’ and they are forceful and judgmental?” King asked.
“Well, they have a right to say that, and they are true to a certain extent, but I don’t — that’s not my calling,” Graham replied. “My calling is to preach the love of God and the forgiveness of God and the fact that He does forgive us. … [Y]ou can get off on all kinds of different side trends, and in my earlier ministry, I did the same, but as I got older, I guess I became more mellow and more forgiving and more loving.”
Efforts to obtain comment from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as to whether Graham still holds to the belief have been unsuccessful, and Franklin Graham has likewise not addressed concerns over the matter. However, in the past, representatives have reportedly pointed to an article published in Decision Magazine in the 1960s, which outlined Graham’s viewpoint on the issue.
Franklin Graham raised concern in 2012 for removing language from the association’s website referring to Mormonism as a cult

[url=http://www.premier.org.uk/News/UK/Former-Miss-Ireland-unashamed-she-was-healed-by-God?utm_source=Premier Christian]Former Miss Ireland unashamed she was healed by God[/url]
Fri 11 Dec 2015
By Marcus Jones
A former Miss Ireland has spoken of her divine healing after being angered by the treatment of a schoolboy who claimed God had taken away his cancer.

Rachelle Liggett said: "I remember seeing posts on Facebook of people, who reacted in frustration, anger and embarrassment. As if suggesting: 'how could God have a place in today's world, our world'?"
"My silence felt like denial of knowing God."
In October, Donaghadee teenager Joshua Martin spoke publicly about his faith that God was going heal him.
Miss Ligett told the Belfast Telegraph how she had been diagnosed with an acute form of leukaemia at the age of ten.
"I was then sent to the haematology ward of the Children's Hospital in Belfast, where I was to live for the next few months.
"However, when I was diagnosed my skin colour fluctuated between yellow and white. I was five stone in weight with no body fat and no appetite for food or water. My condition was very severe."
Miss Ligett is adamant that God was responsible for her recovery.
"During prayer, when the hand of a Christian faith healer was laid on my head, I could feel my fingertips and legs and toes tingle with pins and needles.
"I believe this was the cancer exiting my body. After this, everything in my life changed.
"My appetite returned and I started to put on weight. The doctors never again found a cancerous cell in my body."
After missing two years of school she went on to defy expectations and then achieve a first class honours degree in 2014.
In between, she won the Miss Ireland contest in 2011.

Sorry Whoopi, Hitler was no Christian
Dec 2015
Whoopi Goldberg recently argued that Hitler was a Christian. Professor of History Richard Weikart sets the record straight

Whatever one thinks about the controversy over Syrian refugees and ISIS, Whoopi Goldberg’s recent comments on national television trying to convince us that Christian refugees are just as scary as Muslims disseminates an idea that circulates widely on the internet, i.e., that Hitler was a Christian.
She stated, 'There have been a lot of horrifying—there have been a lot of monster Christians.  Hitler was a Christian.' When her interlocutors balked at this, she then defended her position by saying, 'He didn’t like the Catholics, remember? So he thought of himself as a Christian person.' Goldberg apparently doesn’t understand that Catholicism is a branch of Christianity, or that Hitler—despite his opposition to Catholicism—was officially a Catholic.
If Goldberg were the only one confused about Hitler’s relationship to Christianity, we could ignore it. However, she was expressing a view that circulates widely, especially in atheist circles. Leading atheist intellectuals, such as Richard Dawkins, have insisted that Hitler was a sincere Christian. Their evidence? He said so himself in some of his speeches in the 1920s. In one famous quote circulating on dozens of atheist websites, Hitler stated (on April 12, 1922), 'My Christian feeling directs me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter...As a Christian I do not have the duty to allow the wool to be pulled over my eyes, but I have the duty to be a fighter for the truth and for what is right...As a Christian I also have a duty toward my own people (Volk).'
Hitler purposely lied about his religious convictions
Strangely, those trumpeting this quotation as proof that Hitler was indeed a Christian display the attitude: Hitler said it, I believe it, and that settles it. Never does it seem to cross their minds that Hitler might be - gasp  -lying for political advantage. They are as convinced of Hitler’s veracity as the naïve British Prime Minister Chamberlain was when he arrived back from the Munich Conference waving a sheet of paper with Hitler’s signature on it and proclaiming: 'peace for our time.' In short, they gullibly swallow Hitler’s propaganda (and they blithely ignore a plethora of Hitler’s anti-Christian remarks).

Fortunately, my forthcoming book, Hitler’s Religion: The Twisted Beliefs That Drove the Third Reich (2016) will definitively lay to rest the canard that Hitler was a Christian. By examining in painstaking detail Hitler’s writings, speeches, private conversations, and the testimony of his colleagues, I demonstrate that Hitler’s worldview was far more anti-Christian than Christian. For one thing, there is powerful evidence that Hitler purposely lied about his religious convictions. For instance, when Hitler was in Landsberg Prison, his right-hand man, Rudolf Hess, wrote in a confidential letter that Hitler told him that, as painful as it was for him, 'for reasons of political expediency he [Hitler] had to play the hypocrite toward his church.'
Hitler clearly did not believe in Jesus’s resurrection, claiming that Jesus’s life ended in failure, since he was martyred by the Jews.
Secondly, Hitler often made anti-Christian remarks to his private entourage, and even occasionally slipped in some anti-Christian comments in his public writings and speeches. Hitler not only abhorred the Old Testament of the Christian Bible as Jewish, but he rejected most of the New Testament, especially the epistles of Paul, whom he considered a sneaky Jewish rabbi who smuggled Jewish ideas into Christianity. To be sure, Hitler did esteem Jesus highly, because he thought Jesus was an Aryan antisemitic fighter fathered by a Roman solider (thus not the Son of God born of a virgin). His favorite Bible story, as he told it, was when Jesus wielded a whip to drive those money-grubbing Jews out of the temple. Hitler clearly did not believe in Jesus’s resurrection, claiming that Jesus’s life ended in failure, since he was martyred by the Jews.

Almost from the beginning of his political career to the end, Hitler portrayed Christianity as a tool of the Jews that supplanted the Greco-Roman culture that he loved. He continually complained that Christianity was still imbued with a Jewish spirit. He remonstrated against Christian morality, especially its exaltation of humility and compassion for the sick and weak.
On the other hand, Hitler held in the highest esteem anti-Christian philosophers, such as Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. Hitler even donated his own personal funds to the Nietzsche Archive to promote the ideas of this God-is-dead philosopher. Hitler also expressed admiration for the religious views of Frederick the Great, who was a patron of such Enlightenment luminaries as the deist Voltaire and the atheist La Mettrie.
In sum, Hitler remained officially a Catholic throughout his life, and he esteemed Jesus highly. However, he denied that Jesus was God and ridiculed Christian doctrines, rejected the Christian holy book, and hated Christian moral standards. In one diatribe in 1941 he stated, 'Christianity is the most insane thing that a human brain in its delusion has ever brought forth, a mockery of everything divine.'
Richard Weikart is professor of history at California State University, Stanislaus, and author of Hitler’s Religion: The Twisted Beliefs That Drove the Third Reich (forthcoming in 2016).

5 places that shouldn’t be closed to Donald Trump
By: Jonty Langley | Dec 2015
Republican Presidential hopeful and Biff Tannen lookalike, Donald Trump, may have gone too far this time.

The billionaire reality-TV-host-turned-political-sketch-writer’s-dream recently caused more anger than usual with his suggestion that the US should ban Muslims from entering its borders.
Now, the natural reaction to this sort of stupid, unenforceable, borderline fascist nonsense is to close our own borders to the threat of a Trump invasion. Some 357,000 or so people have suggested that by signing a petition to the UK Parliament to ban Trump from entering the UK. But we’re Christians. You wouldn’t catch us trying to block, ban or bully things or people we don’t agree with. It’s just not our way.
So, in the spirit of being nice and repaying evil with good, let’s not pull up the drawbridges. Let’s welcome the politician with the Flock of Seagulls hairdo, even as we reject his politics of fear and hate.
Here are some suggestions of places that should open their hearts and their doors to Donald J Trump:
1. Our borders
Donald Trump clearly has some odd ideas about Britain. He recently told a journalist that 'We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised that the police are afraid for their own lives.' An assertion so ludicrous it prompted not-exactly-left-leaning Mayor of London Boris Johnson to debunk the ridiculous idea and say that: 'the only reason I wouldn’t go to some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump.'
So let’s not ban him. Let’s welcome him. Since he seems incapable of seeing it in his own country, let’s show him in the UK a country where the vast majority of us don’t fear our Muslim neighbours, but laugh with them. Let’s show him the former British soldier who lost a leg fighting in Afghanistan who brilliantly denounces islamophobia. Let’s show him how a Muslim charity got 60 volunteers to distribute supplies and moral support to victims of flooding in Cumbria. Let’s let him in, give him a decent curry and over a pint in a pub full of different ethnicities and national origins, explain to him what his name means in our slang.
2. Our Borders
I know. It shut down as a chain of book stores in 2009, but the principle holds true: be it in Borders or Blackwell’s, or Smiths or Waterstones, Mr Trump could do with reading a few more books. He could start in the history section, reading about where it ends when you try to gain power by playing on people’s prejudices against a race or religion. But, then, judging by what his ex wife says, maybe he won’t be that shocked.
3. Mexico’s borders
Trump has said some lovely things about Mexicans coming over to America. Like that he was sure some of them were not rapists or criminals. That 'some of them, I assume, are good people.'
'Why Mr Trump,' Mexicans and people of Mexican extraction across America must have said, blushing, 'you flatter us.' It’s time for Mexico to repay that kindness. Open your doors, Mexico! Welcome him in! But don’t waste his time with all that touristy stuff or the thriving culture or business districts, the vast majority of hospitable, hard-working, law-abiding, faith-filled, boring people. No, no, no. Look at his hair. Trump is an original. He’s basically a Hipster. Give him something less mainstream. Introduce him to some of your entrepreneurs in the pharmaceutical industry.
4. Hair salons
Seriously, guys. Open. Your. Doors. This man needs you.
5. The Church
Okay, those last two were mean. Sorry. We’re Christians. We should love people, even if they are inciting racial and religious hate at every opportunity, just to get a bump in the polls. Even when they spread lies that induce fear and division, just to gain power. But that doesn’t mean we should support them. And while a disturbing number of American Christians do, many don’t.
Russell Moore is something of a big deal in the not-terribly-liberal Southern Baptist Convention in the United States and has come out very publicly against Evangelicals supporting Trump, as well as arguing against Trump’s foolproof ‘closing the borders to people who admit they’re Muslims’ proposed security measures from a Baptist standpoint. So perhaps Donald Trump could do with some time in the Church. Not the liberal, progressive, namby-pamby Church – he’d hate that. But a hardcore, Bible-believing, no-nonsense, you’re-fired, not so much with the compromising, Baptist church.
We could pray for him. We could tell him about the Middle Eastern guy we worship, who started life as a refugee. We could mention the stuff about loving enemies, welcoming outsiders, driving out fear with love. We could forgive him and accept his foibles, let him know that Jesus accepts him, too.
But let’s not confuse that grace and acceptance with the idea that this man is fit to be the leader of the most powerful nation on earth. That would be a very, very bad thing.

A two-year interfaith commission has come up with a report that is bound to cause a little bit of controversy.
The 150-page report actually makes for fascinating reading and I will need to take some time to go over it again – to get all the nuances. But the main hits which will be picked up by the media, include the following:
Britain is no longer a Christian country
Faith schools are socially divisive and selection on the basis of faith should be cut back
Anglican bishops in the House of Lords should be cut back and replaced with those of other faiths and other denominations. The report states; The pluralist character of modern society should be reflected in national forums such as the House of Lords, so that they include a wider range of worldviews and religious traditions, and of Christian denominations other than the Church of England, as recommended by the Royal Commission on the Reform of the House of Lords.
The Coronation service should include those of other faiths
Religious radicals should be allowed to speak in University courts
Thought for the Day on the BBC should include non-religious messages
School assemblies should be replaced by ‘time for reflection’
There should be a national ‘consultation’ to draw up a kind of 21st Century Magna Carta to determine what British values are
Where a religious organisation is best placed to deliver a social good, it should not be disadvantaged when applying for funding to do so, so long as its services are not aimed at seeking converts
The C of E are not happy. Nicky Morgan the education secretary is not happy. The National Secular Society are not happy. Lots of people will be unhappy – for different reasons.

Whilst there are actually parts of the report that are helpful and suggestions that make sense, I would offer the following critique.
Inter-faith control
An inter-faith group comes up with a report that recommends more inter-faith control. What a surprise!
Any of us who have served on these kinds of committees and groups know exactly what is to be expected. It is a Disneyesque view of human society and religion which tells us that we are all basically the same, we all get along and its only the few odd bods and ‘bad guys’ who prevent us living in total harmony.
The inter faith model only works in the minds of those who essentially regard all religions as the same, all human beings as basically good and who think that if only they can get to implement their particular version of utopia then it will happen.
Is Britain a Christian country?
It is true that in one sense Britain is no longer a Christian country. The fact that the majority of people do not attend church (did they ever?), the increase in other religions (particularly Islam – which seems a major focus of the report) and the ever-increasing demands of secular humanism are indicators that much of Christian Britain has disappeared.
However there is another sense in which Britain very much remains a Christian country. That is our foundation on which we are built, it is our historical heritage and maybe, before we give up on that that, we need to know what we are selling our heritage for.
The secularist nirvana and the interfaith paradise are as yet untested pipe dreams
The secularist nirvana and the interfaith paradise are as yet untested pipe dreams, fed to us by those already in positions of power and establishment. For those of us who believe that Christianity is the source and therefore the best guarantee of our Western liberal democracy, it is profoundly dangerous to remove the foundations and walls, without knowing what we are going to replace them with.

Useless religion
The report in effect suggests replacing the Christian foundations of our society with a vague inter faith potage that is dominated by the values and principles of secular humanism. For example the report states that people are 'free to express their beliefs and practise a religion, providing they do not constrict the rights and freedoms of others'.
This sounds good until you ask the question who determines the rights and freedoms of others? What about someone’s freedom to be racist? Or someone’s freedom to marry whoever they want? Or the freedom to engage in sexual perversity? Or make oneself rich at the expense of others?
The danger is that we end up creating a secular state where the State acts as God, and where the powerful, rich elites determine the ‘rights and freedoms' of others according to their own fashions and fancies. Religion that is reduced to the level of a knitting group or a golf club may be harmless, but it is also fundamentally useless.
A seat at the table
Overall I would suggest that Christians especially need to be very careful before going along with this report. Some of us may be offered a seat at the table, but that’s no use if we don’t get a say in the menu! For example in the section on religious worship in schools the report states 'In this connection we applaud the joint initiative in Scotland between the Humanist Society Scotland and the Church of Scotland to work together for an inclusive ‘time for refection’.' Again it sounds nice, but at best it is waffle and at worst it is Orwellian distortion of the English language. An ‘inclusive’ time for reflection is nothing of the sort. It only includes those who buy into the humanist agenda (including the humanists in the church) and excludes any one who dares to disagree with that agenda.
The danger is that we end up creating a secular state where the State acts as God
Britain’s liberal democracy and its values of freedom, equality and tolerance are based upon Christianity. This report is indicative of a well-meaning inter-faith movement that is in danger of becoming a Trojan Horse for the new ‘Human Rights’ religion of the metro-elites. It is the poor, the marginalised and the ordinary people of this country who will suffer most if we allow our country to be taken over and destroyed by this untried, untested new faith. I prefer to stick with Jesus and his Word.

Evangelical Alliance warns of "state regulation" of the Church over extremism proposals
Thu 10 Dec 2015
By Aaron James
The Evangelical Alliance has expressed concerns over what it calls the potential "state regulation" of the UK church through the government's counter-extremism proposals.

It's speaking as a consultation over the government's Counter Extremist Strategy continues, where Christians and others can submit evidence and have their say.

Under the current recommendations Ofsted inspectors would regularly visit children's places of education outside of schools to ensure they aren't being radicalised, if the children attend those places for more than six hours a week.

The EA has said that church activities including youth clubs, Bible studies, Sunday schools and festivals could be included in the out-of-school activities monitored by Ofsted, and that this could become the state monitoring and interfering in what the Church does.

Simon McCrossan, Head of Public Policy at the EA, told Premier: "The proposals are potentially so wide that they would capture the registration, inspection and regulation of large swathes of church life.

"Whether it is intentional or not by the government... this could amount to the indirect state regulation of private religious practice, and that's not a feature we're used to in a free, liberal democracy.

"They [Ofsted] do of course reserve the right to identify unsuitable teachers and undesirable teaching. Well of course that raises the question 'how does one decide what that is?' And there's a real concern that historical, biblical doctrine might be interpreted as incongruous with ideas such as British values.

"The government has to secure and recognise our fundamental freedoms within their strategy to deal with extremism. We don't want to see the withdrawal of great supplementary education that Christians of all denominations do in some of the most vulnerable and challenging contexts."

Premier has contacted the Department of Education for a comment and is waiting for a response.

The government's consultation on its Counter Extremism Strategy ends on 11 January 2016.

Church accuses cinema chain of hypocrisy after Lord's Prayer ban
Church accuses cinema chain of hypocrisy after Lord's Prayer ban
Thu 10 Dec 2015
By Hannah Tooley
The Church of England has accused a number of cinema chains of hypocrisy for showing a short Hindu film despite it banning an advert about the Lord's Prayer on religious grounds.

Odeon, Cineworld and Vue cinemas are showing the short film, Sanjay's Super Team, which shows Hindu Gods acting as superheroes to protect a young boy.

In November, the same cinema chains refused to show an advert for the Lord's Prayer saying it could be offensive to people of other faiths and no faith at all.

The advert had been due to be shown before the new Star Wars film.

After initially agreeing the advert would be approved by Digital Cinema Media, it was then banned.

The Church said that every "advertisement conveys a message".

Revd Arun Arora, director of communications for the Archbishops' Council said: "I haven't seen the film but as someone who grew up watching Hindi films and brought up on Bollywood I have no problem whatsoever with Sanjay and certainly have no objection to the cinemas showing this film.

"But the fact that they are doing so demonstrates the incoherence of their on the hoof policy making.

"Every film and advertisement conveys a message.

"And this one seems to convey an obviously pro-religion, in this case pro-Hinduism one.

"There is an unfortunate combination of double standards and hypocrisy on display in this decision making process which needs addressing urgently.

"As Rowan Williams wrote recently, 'Advertising our Christian history is not intruding dangerous propaganda into a neutral and benign space. It is competing with existing propaganda, existing philosophies and ideologies.'

"All we ask is the opportunity to be heard. We remain hopeful that the cinemas will demonstrate the necessary strength of leadership, change their minds and show the justpray.uk film."

A spokesperson for Odean said that: "It is a film, not an advertisment, so it is not covered by our advertising policies."
