Cloak with Carpus in Troas

2 Timothy 4: 13  The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring [with thee], and the books, [but] especially the parchments.

When we get into word study (Hebrew and Greek words) the kind of revelations that come from it are at times astonishing. It is a matter of interpretation so can be rejected by some and accepted by others but the fact that it has something to say and is not coincidental cannot be denied.

Paul instructs Timothy to fetch him his books (papyrus), including scriptures (OT was normally written on parchments). But what is interesting are the words cloak, carpus and troas in Greek when put together have great revelation.

The Greek word for cloak is phelones, it is assumed to root from the word phaino which means to shine one’s light.

The Greek word Carpus / Karpos means fruit.

The Greek word Troas is from which comes the word Trojan. We all know the story of Trojan, how in a wooden horse which looked like a large toy was hidden a living army which broke into and took over an impenetrable fort. A Trojan can be used by an enemy but also by a lawful force to break into the enemy’s camp. In IT Trojans are mostly related to viruses since they normally carry a payload that causes damage but when security services need to seek access into systems of criminals they too use similar technics.

The Word of God if followed as per English translations is like the wooden horse which looks great and mighty but does nothing much other than entertain. The real power of the Word the living active working power is within when one digs into it. Thus those who think expounding of scriptures should not be complicated, are those who possess just a wooden horse, but those who know that the Word is not simple but highly complex and thus dig deep into it are the ones who find the living army within.

To bear Carpus/Karpos or fruit is the purpose of the Word. It is only those who bear fruit are the ones who are not burnt by fire on Judgment Day and the ones who receive eternal life.

Coming to cloak an object/instrument used while traveling to protect oneself from storms.. What we do not realize is only when we travel and face storms we shine the light of Christ. It does not mean we need to leave our houses and be on the road but means we need to move out of our comfort zones and face challenges that come when we share the Gospel of Christ. If there was no persecution and problems to give the Gospel of Christ, Believers would never become Christians.

Today let these 3 Greek words Phaino (phelones/cloak), Carpos and Troas be written in our minds and bring about a change in us.

Comparing themselves among themselves

2 Corinthians 10:12  For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Our problem with wisdom is understood by the simple fact that we do not understand simple scriptures like Proverbs 27:17 which speaks of man sharpening another man like iron does to iron.

Those who work with tools or even a woman who sharpens knife in the kitchen knows this basic fact that one does not use the same material to sharpen, one needs a harder surface material to sharpen. When one takes the same material what is achieved is sparks and noise but very little result. It is only when one takes a stronger surface material that one gets things sharpened.

When a person is new in the Lord we can be of great blessing to that person but as the person grows we should start to handover the person to the Holy Spirit and not be their perpetual guide. If Jesus as man did not do it then how do we dare to do it?

Since we do not try to make people better than us, the very element of being humble (not making ourselves less but making others more) is the reason why we have men leading men, men comparing themselves to another man and being satisfied.

Our ministries start with a man and fade away with that man because God has nothing to do with the ministry. Even those which exist after the passing away of that person are like tombstones, printing and sharing what that person taught for years and years without end. What matters is not how big a ministry we build but what matters is what kind of people we build, do we build people who follow us or people who are led by the Lord?

We are so used to consuming stale food dressed in different ways that anyone serving fresh food is immediately tagged as a heretic or is distanced.

Lord You are Almighty God. All things are possible for You yet You coming as man made way for your Spirit to take over and complete where You left. You know flesh and blood cannot achieve the things of your Kingdom and only your Spirit and transform man into a better and more powerful being so as to inherit your Kingdom. Lord we pray we see whose ministry we are part of or led, we pray we do not let flesh and blood run our ministry in You but only your Spirit be it Head...

No sin in making money preaching the Gospel!

2 Corinthians 11: 7  Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?

In today’s scriptures Paul touches on the point of him preaching the Gospel freely, he also questions if he has sinned by doing this. In other words he has raises question is making money preaching the Gospel a sin? This question will hit almost most of the Preachers and set them aside from laborers of the Lord’s Vineyard. When people understand this most will stop hearing or entertaining almost all the so called ‘TV evangelists’ or ‘International Preachers’, even many so call ‘Church leaders’.

Taking support from the congregation for themselves and their immediate family for those who are doing full time ministry is not wrong and is a right which we cannot deny, if we do then we as the congregation will sin. But the important factor is how much should they receive.

I know of Preachers and Gospel Singers who demand as per ‘their following’, the larger the crowd the more they demand. One so called ‘Man of God’ took all the collection at the ticket counter at a very large event in India and fled the next morning by flight leaving the organizer in a dilemma on how to settle the bills. One of them had to mortgage his house to do so.   

Jesus warned the people of those who sit in these high positions and stand on stages leading congregations yet do not blind an eyelet while devouring the poor and helpless, He said the suffering these ‘leaders’ or ‘Men of God’ will receive is unimaginable.

Think of it these so called ‘Men or Women of God’ whom people admire and look up to will be punished in such a way that will cause one’s spirit to shutter (in other words worse than Hell). Let us not curse them for greed has caused them to be already cursed by God. They operate in their gifts that does mean they are close to God. They heal people when on stage and rob them also from that same place. Discern them, do not follow them, hear them but do not listen to them blindly check all their teachings with the Word of God.

Lord You are Almighty God. You are Love and man did not know love until You manifested love on the cross as son of man. Are we dead to sin and circumcised to the flesh?

Colossians 2:13  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

When one talks to some Christians they are of the notion that they already have victory over sin and death. The problem with these people is not their minds but the English language translation which they literately follow.

People do not understand when it comes to grammar Greek language is far richer than English language thus many things cannot be verbatim translated. In today’s scripture we find the same issue with two verbs ‘being dead’ and ‘quickened together’. Unlike English language Greek has what is called TVM (Tense - Voice - Mode), this not only gives the background and delivery but also what I have noticed in the Bible gives specific instructions about what one needs to do or expect in mind, body and spirit. By simply studying the words and their grammar one can expound on things like Paul did.

The verb ‘being’ in ‘being dead’ has the TVM (Present - Not Stated – Participle).

We know sin comes when we fall to temptation. Temptation starts with thoughts and is present in our thoughts, in the natural today’s scripture expects us to be absent and not responding (neither fighting nor giving in), while in spirit it expects us to continually be immune (dead). It is from this understanding that we get scriptures like ‘flee from temptation’, that is neither fight nor submit in the natural but not in the spiritual realm where we continually do not give in (be dead).

Coming to the verb ‘quickened together’ (made alive together) it has the TVM (Aorist - Active – Indicative).

The Aorist tense I mentioned before is Past, Present and Future put together, in other words means eternal (not continual - starting from a point). So today’s scripture talks of being alive (responding, active, growing) in Christ.

Today’s talks of we being dead to sin and at the same time being alive in Christ; it also means being Christian and yet not being dead to sin (living in sin) will not get us victory over sin and death. If we are struggling in these factors then we are ‘work in progress’ and not ‘final results’.

Lord You are Almighty God. Lord made us to be light that shines in the darkness thus we need to fight the battle wherein You lead us. Lord we pray we do not be fools to consider the battle is already won and thus be casualties of the battle. We pray we understand we need to be dead to sin / temptation and be at the same time be alive in You...

Agree or Disagree but not Somewhat Agree

2 Corinthians 1:17  When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

Any Pastor’s main aim is that his congregation should not disagree with him. Even if they somewhat agree and do not openly disagree is sufficient for him. In today’s message we find Paul did not share that mindset. His purpose was to either get people to agree or disagree but not be in between. The reason our Churches are not growing at the rate it should, is because we have majority in the confused lot category.

If we see the way countries are monitoring the spread of Covid19, if it is in control or not is by its doubling rate. If the rate of doubling keeps on increasing they know for sure the virus is losing and soon will die away. Let us ask ourselves what is the doubling rate of our Church if we are spreading then at what rate are we spreading? If our doubling rate keeps on increasing then we will soon die away. When was the last time our congregations doubled?

We as Christians are given the mission to share the Gospel of Salvation only through Jesus Christ and since we are not presenting it decisively therefore Christ is become an option amongst many for the people of this world therefore some take it and many opt for others as well.

God is not saying all should agree with us and that will never happen, but is saying we should be very clear in the minds of people. They should know if they do not opt for Jesus Christ they will not have salvation at all. Paul states for his decisive steps he did great planning and efforts not more in the natural but more in spirit. His focus as spiritual building thus his efforts too were more spiritual than natural.

Ask Pastors how many of them sit with the Lord.. Most of them will say they spend a lot of time in ‘prayer’. It is true they spend hours and hours ‘in prayer’. But in the Bible we see the Men of God did not do that, yes they did pray but their prayer time was short, Jesus would ask His disciples to wait for Him or would excuse Himself from the group while He went in for His personal prayer, imagine if today’s Pastors telling their disciples to do that, they would lose them the next day! The max time Jesus took in prayer was at Gethsemane after the Last Supper when He was most troubled, that is why the disciples slept when He took an hour. Daniel who was admired by God Himself would pray thrice a day, his prayer time was short and in private.

Our ‘prayers’ are long because we lack faith, we think God is deaf, hard to hear or far from us, thus keep repeating our ‘prayer’ again and again. The Men of God in the Bible spoke to God less and heard God more. Their communication with God was throughout the day and night and not just during the time when they sat ‘in prayer’. Prayers are answered by faith not by words or time.

Lord You are Almighty God. Lord You are Omnipresent and Omnipotent. There is no place You are not present and nothing is hidden from You. Since You have given us free will, thus You require our permission to intervene in our lives and this we do through prayer. Lord we pray we understand prayer better and know to hear and abide in You is the most important. We pray we do not knock the door when You are knocking at it but open the door and let You into our lives. We pray we seek people to know You and not just know about You...

The ‘Great Preachers’ will have more difficulty to repent

Hebrews 6:4-6 For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.

In recent days there was a famous preacher who came on news for rejecting prayer request of a person because the person did not continue her membership fees. Although this news was proved fake yet what is to be seen is the preacher made 40million dollars (officially declared) and his ‘Church’ has an annual budget of 90million dollars not out of thin air.

Being a former Catholic I saw that ‘Church’ misleading people to damnation with ‘traditions’ and lies and when I see such Believer ‘Ministries’ and ‘Churches’ I see the same thing only difference is here they do with misuse of the promises of God while manifesting the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

From 1700 to 2010 the world saw many great missionaries and evangelists and when I made a list of them I saw they started good but towards the end it was difficult to find people actually doing God’s work, most of them ran a business (some of the names will shock you). Truly the Lord said to this period of the Church (Sardis) that few will be found in white robes (faithful servants).

Like the Lord said it is impossible for the rich to enter Heaven, today the Lord is telling us it will also be impossible for these ‘famous preachers’ to enter the Kingdom of God since they have tasted the glory of God by their manifestation of spiritual gifts and yet turned their hearts far from the Kingdom of God. Thus do not be surprised most (almost all) of the tele-evangelists / prophets / apostles whom people follow daily may not be seen close to Heaven forget about in Heaven.

Jesus told the people to hear the Pharisees but not follow them, since they preached about God but without understanding of what they preached. I have always said a rich ‘Christian’ has not understood God and His Kingdom while on the other hand a poor ‘Christian’ does not know God and His power. Test those whom you follow, if their lifestyle has changed with their ministry then do not follow them, you may hear them (not necessary listen) but do not follow them. A true Man/Woman of God is a person who’s ministry grows but not their lifestyle due to their ministry.

Lord You are Almighty God. You Lord desire to save all who come to You, but You know even from those who come to You there are many whose hearts will be far from You, these You term as goats. Lord we pray we seek You not for worldly purposes and thus lose You, we pray we seek your Kingdom which is not of this world. We pray we do not harden our hearts even after knowing You and experiencing your glory. Give your people wisdom to discern those whom they chose as shepherds...

Comfort with the Truth

1 Thessalonians 4: 18  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Incidentally today evening is my last session on Zoom on 7 letters to the 7 Churches and am doing on Laodicea (Judgment of the People) which is the last period of the Church and the world itself.

The people of Thessalonica were very fearful about Judgment Day thinking the (second) coming of the Lord was at hand. Paul who used to use the word ‘soon’ with His coming was now trying to explain to them that there is time to the Lord’s coming and the events leading to the Lord’s coming was not due immediately.

Today also is the same state people keep talking of looking up at the clouds thinking the Lord will show up any time, they are ignorant of the chain of events that lead to His coming. They do not understand on the coming of the Lord everything will just fade away and that is why all (dead and alive) will see His coming. The scripture ‘every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is Lord’ does not mean some as in those alive, but ALL.

In today’s scripture we find Paul saying the Lord will come with a shout of an Archangel (along with His Angels / Saints). Since people do not understand this scripture they think the Lord will do mimicry of an Archangel even though He is Lord!

We need to understand what He became when He humbled Himself from being God the Son in the beginning of creation and before becoming man. Scriptures say He humbled Himself and became like us so that we become like Him; what like Him? What do we transform into, since flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God?

Let us understand salvation itself and how only on its completion does the Lord come. He never fails in what He has taken up. The scripture that says He sees us through, truly means it. But that does not mean individually each one of us can take Him for granted. The number of those going to Heaven are fixed and their names are already in the Book of Life (not a literal book) and unless we do not know for sure our name is in that book we need to be cautious, we could be amongst the larger number of goats who fail instead of the smaller number of sheep that succeed.

Lord You are Almighty God. Your Word is complete. Even though it does not tell the Hour (exact time) of your coming yet it does tell us the Day (season) of your coming. Lord we pray we are not caught asleep on your coming. We pray we be like Noah who unlike the people was very confident that the flood will not come unless he completed the task given unto him. We also pray people understand the transformation they are called for...

Absent in Flesh, present in Spirit

Colossians 2: For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

In today’s scripture we find Paul who could not be physically present at Colosse wrote to them stating that his heart and mind was with them, in other words in spirit (not literately) he was with them.

Today the Lord wants to ask us who cannot physically attend Church service but are attending via digital media or even in times when we could physically attend services, did we be present in flesh or also in spirit. Were our hearts and minds together worshipping God with others and reaching out to others, or was it just about physically being present.

God does not seek our physical present but more our spiritual presence. We may bend down or kneel but in spirit if we have not humbled ourselves before Him then that action goes contrary and angers Him more than please Him. He desires our worship in spirit and truth and not in physical theatrical performance..

We may meet digitally in the natural but when we meet in spirit it makes more sense to Him and thus pleases Him.

Lord You are Almighty God. You are Spirit and your eternal Kingdom is not a natural Kingdom but a Spiritual Kingdom. Our flesh will perish but our spirits will remain. It is only in You and with You that our spirits can have eternal abundant life. Lord we pray we worship You in spirit and truth, that which is eternal and not in flesh which is temporary...

Grace for body or spirit?

Philippians 4:23  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

We always claim the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and even confess that we live by grace.

Today the Lord is asking us what part of us in living by grace, our bodies or our spirits. That answer will decide if we got to Heaven or perish facing death and suffering for many thousands of years.

We all suffer in body and thus pray for the grace of God to overcome the problems we face, but we are mostly blind to the problems of the spirit and thus do not seek the grace of God in those areas.

Let us understand that the grace of God pertaining to the body may make life in the flesh on earth better, it will not save us from death and suffering for it will not get us to Heaven, but the grace of God pertaining to the spirit may not make life on earth good but will surely save us from death and get us to enjoy eternal and abundant life with God in Heaven.

Let us ask ourselves what is the focus of our lives earth or Heaven, our worldly problems or our spiritual problems? The things which are we praying for daily will answer our question. Also the Promises of the Bible that we always remember and meditate on are they pertaining to earthly blessings or Heavenly spiritual blessings will also answer our question.

Preaching to Trojan

2 Corinthians 2: 12  Furthermore, when I came to Troas to [preach] Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

Paul in his second letter to the Church of Corinth spoke of how the Lord opened a door for him to preach at a place called Troas / Trojan which is a city near Hellespond. What is interesting is that he mentions this just after speaking of not being ignorant of Satan and his devices.

All preachers study of God but there are hardly some who know about Satan and his devices. All the people one meets glorify Satan into a god and consider him a competition to God Himself. They make prays like ‘I protect myself / others from Satan with the blood of Jesus’, some nuts go to the extent of saying ‘I sprinkle the blood of Jesus on Satan’. They do not know the Blood (sacrifice) of Jesus is only for protecting us from the wrath of God.

The very fact people are ignorant that Satan is a plural word in the Bible and points to more than 1 individual shows how little they know of the enemy they are supposed to battle. They also do not know how Satan is bond in Hell yet he is amongst us. When asked these questions the give explanations they give contradict scriptures and logic.

If we look at any worldly religion they either glorify Satan / Devil as a god and worship him/them or justify his/their existence as a necessity.

We loose on breaking into the stronghold of the enemy’s territory and saving souls in his stronghold all because we are ignorant of him and his devices. We are not asked to study Satan in depth but advised not to be ignorant of him. If God Himself gives details of him/them and their gang then we should not be ignorant nor go to other external sources of information that misled us about him/them.

Cunningly Devised Fables

2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

India is called the ‘Land of Spirit and Mystique’ because of the diverse religions, beliefs and practices that exist in the land. When I was ignorant of spiritual matters, I too would be proud of its so called ‘spiritual richness’ but latter realized it was the contrary, ‘spiritual poverty’ that the people of the land suffer.

The term fable means stories and these can be true or false stories, but the Greek word translated as devised means ‘to invent’.

All so called religions are not false but are neither true. What one needs to understand in the modern ages most people are not easily deceived thus all beliefs are based on some historical event or character/s but the falsehood around that truth is like particle of dust that triggers formation of a pearl in an oyster, no one sees the dust but only the coating around it. Be it main stream religions like Islam or Hinduism, they all suffer the same disease.

Being an Apologist I research various beliefs, thus being a former Catholic I went deeper into Catholicism and later took up Islam and Hinduism.

In Catholicism Catholics foolishly believe the lies that Peter was instrument in set the Church in Rome although historic records prove that Christianity struggled to survive in Rome between 70AD to 303AD since they were considered as sect of the Jews and Jews were hated by the Romans. It was only in 303-306AD that Christians were directly persecuted at the hands of the Romans. Also Bible and history shows that Paul was the person who set the strong foundation for Christianity in Rome. Rome became a Christian nation only in 380AD long after Constantine’s rule (306-337AD). Also Catholics believe that the spirit/person that appears as ‘Mother Mary’ is the mother of Jesus, all because they do not understand scriptures pertaining to life and death. So whenever so called ‘tears’ flow from some image or statue they foolishly think Mary is weeping for them.

When we comes to Islam it is crazier, the whole story around the character ‘Mohammed’ and the places ‘Mecca and Medina’ if studied historically and geographically, has nothing to do with them but with another person in another place and another era. The name ‘Mohammed’ and the names of the places were added latter to their text.

Hinduism becomes even more interesting, the so called ancient religion claiming tens of thousands of years of age is not even a couple of thousand years old, younger to even Christianity (forget Abrahamic religion of the OT). The so called Vedic Hinduism (which has roots to OT text) is way different to what is currently practiced as Hinduism. The current Hinduism is based more on tales written by writers like is the case with Chinese mythology.

Christians are not strong in faith all because they do not research what they believe in, they think God demands ‘blind faith’. They do not realize blind faith can destroy them that is why God says ‘test/taste and see that I am good’. Jesus did not say believe Him for His miracles but said check scripture and know it is Him that they speak of. It is only when they research scriptures in every angle that they will realize our God is indeed God and there is none other than Him, His Word is true and strong as a cliff (unshakable by man).

We live in a better time

Hebrews 11: 40  God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

In today’s scripture we read Paul (supposedly) stating that the people (especially the Jewish and other Hebrew speaking people) at that time dwelled in a better spiritual timing than even the former Israelites (Jews always consider the times of King David and King Solomon as the golden periods) or even the times of the great Patriarchs like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Elijah, Ezekiel etc...

When we speak to modern Christians and ask them what era would they consider as being the best spiritual period and they would immediately say the times of Jesus, Apostles or the Prophets. They do not realize that Jesus said we who are His disciples would one day do greater things than Him.

Recently as I was taking a session on the timeline of the Church and went through the past 5 milestones and reached the current milestone of Philadelphia. As I explained them what had happened and what is happening those attending had fear of the great disasters that are set for this period which we have stepped in. Even when I told them about the glorious things that will also happen during this period most of them could overcome the danger of great disasters. All that was on their minds was when would this current pandemic end and when I told them it was just a starter to the multi-level course set in this period they feared more.

Since the past 10 years we have moved into the sixth milestone of the timeline of the Church – Philadelphia. This period is stated as the golden period of the Church of Christ; greater even than Ephesus, the period of the Apostles. But this period as most already experienced is not a cake walk. It is a period of great contrast – disaster and glory. All that matters is where we stand in Christ which will decide our outcome - disaster or glory.

Anointing Teaches Everything

1 John 2: 27  But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Today’s scripture is the most misunderstood scripture which has caused the emergence of many foolish and wild Preachers / ‘Men of God’/ Ministries especially in countries like US and Nigeria. I personally had people come to me saying Pastor/Brother pray over me such that your anointing comes over me and I know everything!

The word for anointing is the Greek word ‘chrisma’ and in Hebrew is ‘mashach’ which actually means ‘something smeared on’. The term anointing has 2 aspects one physical and other spiritual. In the physical they would anoint a person with oil and it was olive oil (since olive tree symbolized people of God) so was like rubbing in the testimony of God’s people not simply applying oil. When a person is sick or someone has to be commissioned for Lord’s work, we are advised to encourage the person with testimonies (putting oil is not essential).

Coming to the spiritual part, anointing a person spiritually is to do with imparting of the Holy Spirit. A person who has not received the Holy Spirit can be prayed over so that Holy Spirit falls on that person. Also in connection with the Holy Spirit are Callings, it is for this reason when the Lord took the Spirit that was on Moses and put on the those outside the camp and within the camp they too prophesied like Moses manifesting the Calling of a Prophet.

A person who is spiritually anointed does not get everything at a switch of a button. We see Jesus anointed His disciples before He ascended to Heaven. It was only at Pentecost after they were baptized in the Holy Spirit they started manifesting the anointing. That did not mean everything happened that day, we see Peter exhibited great wisdom that day, but latter he did many foolish things such that Paul had to rebuke him in public. We need also note that the Apostles first needed to be trained by Jesus in person and then only could they be put in a position that the Holy Spirit could take over them.

I personally am taught by the Lord and this took time. For 1 year the Lord did not allow me to preach or share, till He set the basic foundation in me. But that does not mean people were not part of my spiritual building. Yes I can thank many who were part directly and indirectly in my spiritual building. People cannot be put aside, even those whom you sit to teach, at times teach you something.

Who was Melchisedec?

Hebrew 7:1  For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

When Muslims claim that Mohammed their prophet is mentioned in the Bible and then quote John 16:8, we laugh at them for we know that scripture refers to the Holy Spirit and not to a human. But when Bible theologians do a similar foolishness saying that Melchisedec was the Holy Spirit referring to today’s scripture, we keep quiet and listen. They do this because they do not understand the relationship between Mary and Jesus (she was not His real mother but His surrogate mother).

If we read Genesis 14 we see King Melchisedec led a team of kings and Abraham gave a tenth of the goods to this group led by Melchisedec, for the King of Sodom requests Abram (before his name was changed) to keep the goods but give him the people (the group that Abram led to defeat their enemy). This scripture is quoted for tithing only because the word (tenth) exist there. True Abram was led by the Lord to give only a tenth and not twenty or more of the portion. But people fail to see Abram himself did not keep anything instead gave the remaining ninety percent of all that was captured to the people who went with him. He had also freed the others along with Lots, who were captured from Sodom.

This letter of Hebrews was written to the Hebrew speaking people (Jews and Samarians) who looked up to Abraham the patriarch as father figure of faith. The first 2 verses of chapter 7 Paul (supposedly) refers to the incident of Genesis 14 because of the names and their meaning but then verse 3 refers to Jesus Christ since the whole of the letter is basically about Him.. The eternal Priest, without father, without mother, without beginning and without end is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ the King of Righteousness and King of Peace, whom Melchisedec became a shadow of by meaning of name and what he did (offering of bread and wine).

When I attend sessions where the Preacher / Pastor speaks contrary to scriptures and I see none of the congregation making efforts to correct him even in private, I feel sad for that congregation. It shows they do not worship God but have lifted their leader above God, and are blinded by him.

Let us not worship man even if he or she comes in the name of the Lord. Let us use wisdom and discern every word so that we do not fall for the folly of men.

Made all nations of one blood for pre-appointed purpose

Acts 17:26,27 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

We see a wave of ‘awareness and awakening’ the world over that has resulted into mass protests under the banner ‘Black Life Matters’.

Personally I acknowledge the racist discrimination and persecution that people of different races face for as Indians being ‘brown’ we too have faced racist discrimination at hands of old British colonist. That did not mean all British were / are racist for we had many British missionaries that were the leading activist against racism. I would say people should have the movement ‘Every Colored Life Matters’.

Today’s scripture talks of all nations (people) being made of one blood and in science we see that. We do have different blood groups but these groups are not based on color of skin or race (origin). There are totally 8 blood groups made by various combinations of 4 basic groups. These 4 groups are based on the surface of the Red Blood Cells (RBC), antibodies and antigens in the blood. If people should distinguish people it should be on this blood groups and not place of origin, lifestyles or color of skin for these change over a period of time (sometimes less and sometimes many years), habitation or by medicines.

Blood symbolizes life and is also called ‘the seat of life’. Blood says life comes from the blood and blood is generated from bone marrow which symbolizes our spirit. An average adult person has 4.5L to 5.7L (7 to 8% of weight) blood in circulation and only during pregnancy it grows by 30 to 50%. Blood cells have a life span of 120 days thus are constantly replaced.

The Lord is telling us we find differences between us not because we have differences in color or lifestyle or race but because we do not know the purpose why we are made. Since we are of this world we think in natural means and not spiritual means. As Christians let us not distinguish people by looks or external factors, we us understand all differences are made to understand things spiritual which are hidden / unseen. Even spiritually we discern people and be cautious but do not discriminate them even if they are unbelievers or God haters. We are called to give our lives for a brethren and may not do it for a non-brethren, yet we are called to love them and show the mercy of Christ unto them.

Corruption through lust

2 Peter 1:4  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

An important point to understand in today’s message is the term lust. When the term lust is used people think of evil desires but people do not understand lust simply means desire, it is about uncontrolled or unchecked desires. That means even desiring for good things in life over a certain point would be termed as lust, it need not be forbidden things.

We sin when we fall or give unto lust. Another important point in today’s message is that we always focus on sin and try to avoid sin but there is something more dangerous / important that we miss focusing on that is corruption/destruction as Peter / Paul put.

What is corruption?

Corruption is the consequences of sin, sin causes corruption and corruption leads to death. We sin but depending on the kind of sin or the gravity of sin it causes greater or lesser corruption. Noticeable corruption can happen immediately in one sin or over numerous sins. Sin can be forgiven but that does not undo corruption, the only way to undo corruption is Fruits of the Spirit.

Jesus by His sacrifice got our sins forgiven but that does not get us an entry to Heaven unless the Holy Spirit works in us and deals with the corruption.

In today’s message Peter refers to those who are baptized in the Holy Spirit. He does not say we are free of sin but says we have overcome or undone corruption in many areas of our lives and that happens when we put on the nature of Christ. If we have not fully put on the nature of Christ then we have not fully overcome corruption for Christ is the only one who has overcome corruption. Even though He did not sin yet because He became man He needed to deal with corruption and the day we (just 2) overcome corruption that day would be the call for resurrection of mankind and Judgment Day.

Priest offering for sins

Hebrews 10:11  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

People have this wrong notion that a Priest is a Man of God or God’s representative.

We need to understand the concept of a Priest is a man who represents the people to God/god, he or she is a representative of the people. The work of the Priest is to do with activities of the Temple, which is to offer sacrifice for the sins of the people. The Priest plays the key role of keep the wrath of God/god away from the people.

A Nabi in other words Spokesman of God (Man of God) initially was referred to as Prophet (not to be mistaken with the Calling of a Prophet). Thus even if the Man of God was an Apostle or Teacher in the OT he or she was referred to as Nabi. Every Priest is not necessary a Man or Woman of God but every Man or Woman of God is by default a Priest.

Jesus as man became our representative and made an eternal sacrifice of Himself. This does not mean any human who sacrifice himself or herself could have done it. For a person to be that eternal sacrifice that person would have to be born without a father (sin nature is inherited from the father to the children) and that person would have to have lived a life without sin (words, thoughts or deeds).

The sacrifice of Jesus is eternal because Jesus by His sacrifice made peace between God and man, such that His Spirit was made available to mankind. It is the Spirit of God the Son who transforms us making us into Sons of God, adopted to receive inheritance in Heaven.

World without end!

Ephesians 3:21  Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

In the Catholic / Orthodox Church they have this chart called ‘Eternity to Eternity’ or ‘The Course of Time from Eternity to Eternity’. People who see this chart may find it scriptural and that is why many Believers also put this chart up on walls. It is so wildly accepted that it is available on online sites like Amazon for less than 5$.

The reason this chart looks scriptural is because the interpretation is done based on English translations. The flaw with English translations is the numerous mistakes in substituted words and limitations due to grammar mismatch.

Let me take today’s scripture for example, which speaks of ‘world without end’. Any person who reads this would think of the earth / new earth that never perishes. But when one goes into the Greek text one see something else written. The Greek world for world is ‘Kosmos’ and the word given here and mistranslated as ‘world’ is the Greek word ‘aion’ which actually means ‘ever’. So the scripture actually means ‘forever without end’ and has nothing to do with this world. What is forever is the glory of God the Son - Lord Jesus Christ.

The Apostolic Church was founded on the Word and their first love was the Word. If we lose our first love then we will surely be misled and may every land into vanity, destruction.

Greatest Blessing

2 Timothy 1:18  The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

I have mentioned in my very old messages how and why the Hebrew word ‘barak’ translated as ‘blessing’ is also translated as ‘curse’ in some scriptures (Jobs). To refresh, the term ‘bless’ does not mean to add something to a person’s life. Scripture says when God created us He set all that we need, it is our faith or lack of faith that lets us greater access or deprives us from that available resource. When we bless someone we quicken or give greater access to that which (the good things) the Lord has already given, Curse on the other hand would be quickening the judgment of God in that person’s life. That is why when we curse someone we came in danger of getting ourselves also in to judgment.

In the Bible we see a blessing was always spoken with that which was to be quickened. They did not simply say ‘God bless’ for that would mean let God quicken the direction you are following (good/bad).

In today’s scripture we see Paul communicates the greatest blessing of opening the doors of mercy in the life of Onesiphorus on Judgment Day. One may wonder why anyone would need mercy when one is already ‘saved’. There are many scriptures which speak of sins ‘un-forgiven’ or ‘leading to death’, these are sins which we will be questioned for on Judgment Day.

Here we see Onesiphorus although has done great work for Lord’s Kingdom yet Paul says that would not get a green channel and open door, he too will be questioned for those specific deeds in case he has committed them in his life. Here we see Paul prays for mercy at that moment of judgment.

Let us not be ignorant of things like spiritually harming a person will not be questioned of us even if we have been a blessing in the lives of many. For God every one counts.

Euodias and Syntyche the two faces of the coin of destruction

Philippians 4:2  I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

Paul too faced problems of teammates having a conflict of misunderstanding between themselves, and in today’s scripture he names two females who were part of his team who suffered this. Like I mentioned before names in the Bible have meanings and many a times the meanings give a revelation of great understanding. Euodias means ‘prosperity’ and Syntyche has the root meaning ‘fate’.

The two things that destroys Believers/Christians are prosperity and fate.

Those who believe that God is a vessel of prosperity do not know the reason God created them and what God expects of them. The prosperity that God speaks of is not worldly but spiritual prosperity; that does not mean God desires us to live in natural poverty. God supplies us our needs and we should not lack, but at time we may fall a little short or face a little difficulty and the reason is the sweetest grapes grow in hard climate and difficult surrounding (hot/dry climate and the vine is stretched from all sides).

Coming to fate, although God is in control and the result is already written, we need to understand all who believe or claim to do so do not enter the Kingdom of God, but only those who do the Will of the Father, in other words their believe is tested. That means free will is an important factor of our destiny. God would know our fate because names in the Book of Life are already written but that does not mean we can assume our fate and think all is well thus be free to do anything.

Paul says Christian life is a race. The end point of the race is the end point of our life, that means we need to keep running until the end of our lives and if we opt out of the race in between (even towards the end) we disqualify. The reward of this race is a million or billion times our efforts thus it is not a bargain but more than a bargain.

Let us know what is expected of us as Christian and be clear in our minds, let us not seek Euodias or Syntyche, the two faces of the coin of destruction.

Noah praying for floods!

1 Thessalonians 3: 4  For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

Day before yesterday the world saw it highest 1.8 lakh (180 thousand) new infections in a single day, a state like New York has over 4.1 lakh infections and 31 thousand deaths. In today’s date almost all are praying for Covid-19. Christians lead those the list of people who are praying. With technologies like Zoom and other video conference application people are gathering on these forums to pray due to social distancing.

Yesterday I invited someone to join a session on the timeline of the Church and the brother told me he could not attend since he needed to attend a pray session. To tell him not to attend a pray session but join to know more about God’s plan would cause people to stand up and say ‘brother do you not believe in power of prayer?’

I thought to myself yesterday about Noah, after being told by the Lord to make a ship (ark) since there was going to be a great flood killing most, imagine him not making the ship, instead sitting to pray to the Lord for mercy and deliverance from the floods!

There is power in prayer but prayer cannot change that which is written/declared by the Lord in His Word. Praying contrary to the Word is call a prayer of errors and will not be heard. I am not saying not to pray for those suffering from this pandemic but we need to know what to pray and whom to pray for.

The times we have entered in, this pandemic is just the start. It is only when we understand the Word that we will be better prepared and focused on seeing results. Ignorance of the truth is causing people to try to move walls and mountains, not by faith but by hand. It is only when we pray in line to the Word of God will be see positive results and mountains move.

To eat or not to eat

Romans 4:21  [It is] good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor [any thing] whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

I have heard many preachers speak on this topic about not eating things that may offend another person and we see Christians avoid eating meat because of vegetarian unbelievers.

Frist thing, we Christians eat meat since it is part of our belief. It has to do with accepting the Lord’d sacrifices like the Paschal Lamb. Almost all sacrifices offered were eaten by man unless burnt in fire. The Hebrew word ‘zabach’ for sacrifice does not simply mean to kill but means ‘to kill and eat’. A person who is a Christian and vegetarian is called ‘weak in faith’ by Paul. Eating of meat for a Christian is like eating of bread and wine of the Lord’s Table; emblems that have a spiritual understanding thus cannot be ignored or put aside.

If eating meat is part of our faith then can a Christian sacrifice it for an unbeliever? We may avoid a meal or two but cannot give up because it hurts the belief of another person. To respect that person we may avoid eating with that person but should eat in private and let that person know we still do eat.

Today’s scripture talks of not eating before a Brother (brethren) and not an unbeliever. It speaks of giving time to that person who is weak in faith to become strong and overcome. That means we should not keep avoiding eating before that person but work on strengthening and building the faith of that person so that we can eat with that person.

The food that we eat is for the nourishment of the natural body, but there are symbolic things that also nourish our spirit like eating of bread and wine of your table, they may be emblems but they confess our faith. Power of His Resurrection

Philippians 3:10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

We normally say the words ‘resurrection of the dead’, when the same words were told to Jesus, He rebuked them by saying God is not God of the dead but of the living.

It may surprise people to know that the dead do not resurrect but the living resurrect. Here we are not speaking of the natural dead but those condemned to spiritual death. Resurrection is not ‘of the dead’ but ‘from the dead’, since it is of the living.

Why we do not consider only naturally dead only for resurrection? It is because even those who are alive just before Judgment Day will transform without dying and will resurrect.

The term resurrection is not coming alive from death but means to rise, it is about getting elevated from lower position to a higher position. So applies rising from Hell to Grave or our level, and also from our level to Upper Heavens.

After His death on the crucifix Jesus Christ was still alive; His Spirit left His body and He was condemned to Hell since our sins were on Him. His rising from Hell to come back to the level we dwell in is what is called resurrection. The power of Him resurrecting was not the strength it took to break something to come out.

We need to understand Hell is controlled by the Angels of God and not by demons. Satan is bound in Hell as a prisoner, he does not rule it. Jesus Christ went to Hell because He was forsaken by the Father since He took our blame on Him; but He could not be kept in there since there was no sin in Him. The Power of Resurrection did not work in Him after His natural death but worked while He was alive and His resurrection was a result of the working of that power.

Let us not wait for Resurrection Power after we die but as we know Him through His Spirit and by the working of His Spirit in us while we are alive, we can let His Resurrection Power build us today so that after we sleep in Him, on Judgment Day may experience the results of that Resurrection Power which will not only get us to rise from Grave/Sea (a spiritual level and not natural grave/sea) but also raise us to Heaven.

Power of His Resurrection

Philippians 3:10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

We normally say the words ‘resurrection of the dead’, when the same words were told to Jesus, He rebuked them by saying God is not God of the dead but of the living.

It may surprise people to know that the dead do not resurrect but the living resurrect. Here we are not speaking of the natural dead but those condemned to spiritual death. Resurrection is not ‘of the dead’ but ‘from the dead’, since it is of the living.

Why we do not consider only naturally dead only for resurrection? It is because even those who are alive just before Judgment Day will transform without dying and will resurrect.

The term resurrection is not coming alive from death but means to rise, it is about getting elevated from lower position to a higher position. So applies rising from Hell to Grave or our level, and also from our level to Upper Heavens.

After His death on the crucifix Jesus Christ was still alive; His Spirit left His body and He was condemned to Hell since our sins were on Him. His rising from Hell to come back to the level we dwell in is what is called resurrection. The power of Him resurrecting was not the strength it took to break something to come out.

Papyrus and Parchments

2 Timothy 4: 13  The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring [with thee], and the books, [but] especially the parchments.

Bible (Latin ‘Biblia’ and Greek ‘Byblos’) does mean book but means books. It is a collection of books that compromise as the Word of God. These ancient books were found either in scrolls form or codex form. Scrolls were large, fragile and expensive. Codices were less expensive to produce and less fragile. A codex consists of multiple sheets with writing on both sides and then bound together in what we might call a book. The scrolls and codices were made of different kinds of materials.

Ancient manuscripts are found written mainly on parchments (skin of animals) and on papyrus. Papyrus is paper (sheets) made of reeds. Papyrus was used for Bible manuscripts only later and oldest manuscripts were in parchments even though Egyptians used papyrus since over 2000BC. Interestingly papyrus is always written as made of reeds and not weeds. One may ask the difference between the term reeds and weeds. Even though both point to the stem of plants it all depends of the usefulness or fruitfulness of the plant. Those which are unfruitful or useless are called weeds while those fruitful or useful are called reeds.

Coming to skin, skin is symbolic to righteousness and we see in Job who was found more righteous than others was yet not fully righteous before the eyes of God, none were. God dealt with his righteousness and that is why he suffered only in matters concerning skin, none of his organs had any medical problems.

Today the Lord is telling us that His Word is written in those who are found righteous and those who are found fruitful. So if you want to study His Word do not just seek knowledge and wisdom but also seek His righteousness and become fruitful seeking the purpose of His Word.
