Hundreds of people have been injured and at least two have died after a powerful 6.1 earthquake struck western Iran, near the border with Iraq.
The quake struck some 31 kilometers from Javanrud, Kermanshah province, at a depth of 10 kilometers, USGS reports. There were no immediate reports of major damage, but the powerful jolt was reportedly felt as far as the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

At least two people have died and another 241 people have been injured in the earthquake, the Emergency Department said, according to Fars news agency.

A number of people suffered injuries in the quake and were rushed to hospital in Javanrud, Press TV reports.

Peru has been rocked by a major 7.1 magnitude earthquake close to the border with Brazil and Bolivia, the US Geographical Survey (USGS) said. The massive quake struck 248km north-west of Puerto Maldonado, a city in south-eastern Peru, at 4:04am local time (10am BST). Its epicentre was at a depth of 610km (379 miles), according to the USGS, with the city of Pucallpa hit by two violent shakes. The
quake was also felt in northern Chile and the Colombian city of Medellin, but authorities said there was no tsunami risk. There are currently no reports of damage or casualties. Earthquakes are common in Peru because the country lies between the boundary of the Nazca and South American tectonic plates. But they can prove devastating because many homes are built with precarious materials which are unable to withstand the tremors.

last 7 days, and that includes more than 50 on Sunday alone.  And remember, these are not small earthquakes.  The USGS considers any earthquake that is at least magnitude 4.5 to be “significant”, and they are happening so rapidly right now that it is difficult to keep up with them. Usually, only earthquakes that cause death and destruction get attention from the mainstream media, and that was definitely the case with the huge quake that hit the northern coast of Venezuela on Tuesday…

The quakes rattled Indonesia, Bolivia, Japan and Fiji, but failed to reach the western coast of the United States, which also falls along the infamous geological ring. California’s ‘Big One’ – a destructive earthquake of magnitude 8 or greater – may be looming. Scientists have previously warned that the state, which straddles the huge San Andreas Fault Line, is long overdue a deadly event of this size. The recent spate of Ring of Fire activity was recorded by experts at the United States Geological Survey, which is headquartered in Reston, Virginia. Maps generated by the agency’s vast array of seismometers shows Fiji was the worst hit, with five earthquakes above magnitude 4.5 – classed as ‘significant’ by the USGS – rumbling the country since Monday morning.

Lombok has been hit by ten earthquakes of magnitude-5.0 or higher in the past 24 hours as Indonesia struggles to deal with the aftermath of a huge tremor that killed hundreds last week.  Nearly 500 people have died in quakes and aftershocks since July 29 across the northern coast of the island, which lies just east of Indonesia’s top tourist destination, Bali. And on Sunday, another magnitude 6.9 tremor struck the region – killing at least 10 people.

Not too long ago, I wrote about how “Earth changes” seem to be accelerating all over the world, but even I was stunned by the ferocity of the seismic activity that we witnessed over the weekend.
Because none of the earthquakes happened in the United States, the mainstream media almost entirely ignored this story, but that is a huge mistake. The entire west coast of the U.S. falls along the “Ring of Fire”, and experts assure us that it is only a matter of time before the seismic tension that is building up along the tectonic plates in that area is released. Earth continues to reel from seismic activity as a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 has rocked the Lombok region – the latest in a series of tremors which have claimed the lives of almost 500 people in recent weeks. The United States Geological Survey reported that the latest quake hit north-north-west of the battered Indonesian island, at a depth of just one mile.
The USGS initially said the quake measured 7.2, but subsequently revised this to 6.9. There was no immediate tsunami alert from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The quake struck 64 km (40 miles) from the city of Mataram with a population of 400,000 people, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports. The tremor hit Lombok's northern shore, some 6km (four miles) from the Mount Rinjani volcano. There have been no reports of injuries or damage so far.

In early August, Lombok suffered a magnitude 6.9 quake, followed by over 300 aftershocks. A total of at least 436 people have been killed as the tremors leveled buildings. That quake damaged tens of thousands of homes and left several hundred thousand people displaced. It also initially triggered a tsunami warning that was later called off.

Indonesia is located in a seismically active are and is frequently shaken by earthquakes. In 2004 it was hit by one of the deadliest quakes in recent history, a magnitude 9.1-9.3 event that triggered tsunami waves up to 30 meters tall. Over 220,000 people were killed or left missing then.

A strong earthquake shook southern Costa Rica near the border with Panama on Friday evening, knocking out power in places but there were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage. The US Geological Survey reported that the quake had a magnitude of 6.0 and struck at 5:22 pm local time at a depth of about 12 miles. Its epicenter was about 12 miles north of the town of Golfito.
Ellery Quesada, a journalist with Channel 9 in Palmar Norte, near the epicenter, told The Associated Press that it was felt strongly in the region. “We have reports that in Puerto Jimenez the power was out and some power poles toppled,” Mr Quesada said by phone, adding that aftershocks were felt in the minutes afterward. The USGS recorded at least one subsequent temblor of magnitude 4.9.

Although seismicity decreased over the weekend, frequent tremors over the past 30 days (more than 18,000) have caused damage throughout the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. Much of the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park has been closed three months due to hazards caused by seismic activity released by energy from collapse events at the summit of Kīlauea Volcano.
Park rangers say those magnitude 5.0 and higher riddle Highway 11, other park roads, overlooks and trails with dangerous sinkholes and cracks. A Super-Volcano in California which erupted with devastating results hundreds of thousands of years ago has a vast reservoir of semi-molten magma measuring a staggering 240 cubic MILES, a new study has suggested. The amount of magma in the Long Valley Caldera is so large it could support an eruption equivalent to the massive one which occurred 767,000 years ago, which released 140 cubic miles of material into the atmosphere.
By comparison, the 1980 Mount St Helens eruption resulted in the release of 0.29 cubic miles. While the Long Valley Caldera is unlikely to blow anytime soon, the report, written by scientists from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the University of California, and the University of Rhode Island, said: “We can conclude the mid-crustal reservoir is still melt-rich. “We estimate the reservoir currently contains enough melt to support another super-eruption comparable in size to the caldera-forming eruption at 767 ka.”

Crews battling deadly Northern California wildfires prepare for another day of hot and dry conditions that could drive the flames into new areas and threaten more homes.

According to Cal Fire, more than 15,000 personnel are on the lines of 18 large blazes across California on Saturday. So far, the fires since June have killed 8, burned more than 559,000 acres and damaged or destroyed over 1,800 structures. Roughly 17,000 homes continue to be threatened by these fires, and about 45,000 residents are under evacuation.

Ultimately, this may turn out to be the worst year for wildfires that California has ever seen.

Of course there have been bad years for wildfires before. But what we haven’t seen before are “firenadoes” that pack 143 mph winds…

On Thursday, NWS researcher combed through the wreckage left behind and determined a fire whirl — commonly known as a fire tornado — roared through the area between 7:30 p.m and 8 p.m. on July 26th.

It was packing 143 mph winds, turning heavy-duty high tension power line towers into twisted pieces of metal, uprooting trees and ripping the bark off other trees.

When I first heard about this fire tornado, I was absolutely stunned.

I had never heard of a fire tornado anywhere near that size in the United States, and apparently the experts hadn’t either…

“This is historic in the U.S.,” Craig Clements, director of San Jose State University’s Fire Weather Research Laboratory, told BuzzFeed News. “This might be the strongest fire-induced tornado-like circulation ever recorded.”

Known as a pyrocumulus cloud, the ominous red weather formations usually occur over volcanic eruptions or forest fires when intensely heated air triggers an upward motion that pushes smoke and water vapor to rapidly rise. They can develop their own weather patters, including thunderstorms with severe winds which then further fan the flames.

Elsewhere in the Southwest, drought continues to intensify, and this is starting to produce absolutely enormous dust storms.

Officials at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport said flights were delayed or held until visibility improved.

National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists said blowing dust in the Phoenix area brought near-zero visibility for drivers Thursday evening.

Certainly a dust storm is less destructive than a “fire tornado” in the short-term, but as we saw in the 1930s, a consistent pattern of giant dust storms can absolutely cripple a nation.

And let us not forget all of the shaking that has been happening to the crust of our planet.

On Sunday, Indonesia was shaken by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake…

The death toll rose to 82 after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked the Indonesian island of Lombok and on nearby Bali on Sunday, damaging buildings, sending terrified residents and tourists running into the streets and triggering a brief tsunami warning.

Social media posts from the scene showed debris piled on streets and sidewalks. Hospital patients, many still in their beds, were rolled out onto streets as a safeguard against structural damage to the hospital buildings.

So why is all of this happening?

Yes, the amount of carbon dioxide in the air is increasing, and it has been increasing for a very long time. Ultimately, the amount that humans contribute to the overall level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is marginal, and even if we took the most extreme measures possible there is very little that we could do to significantly affect the balance.

And scientists assure us that our planet once had much, much higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the air then we do today, and our planet appeared to have thrived under those conditions.

But the narrative won’t change. The mainstream media will continue to tell us that the Earth changes that we are witnessing are due to global warming and that if we reverse course that we can go back to how things were before.

No, we can’t go back, because the changes that are happening are way outside of our control.

Fundamental changes are happening to our planet, and this is just the beginning. For now these Earth changes are a minor nuisance to a lot of people, but pretty soon nobody will be able to ignore them.

Although detailed statistics are not kept on daily activity, generally there are around 20 volcanoes actively erupting at any particular time. Last week, the Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report (WVAR) reported 22 actively erupting volcanoes and 43 continuous erupting volcanoes. We are in a phase of increased volcanic activity.
Overall there are 43 volcanoes with ongoing eruptions as of the Stop Dates indicated (July 24, 2018), sorted with the most recently started eruption at the top. An eruption marked as “continuing” does not always mean that the activity is continuous or happening today, but that there have been at least some intermittent eruptive events at that volcano without a break of at least 3 months since it started.

As many as 537 people have lost their lives in floods and rains in six states during the monsoon season so far. According to the Home Ministry’s National Emergency Response Centre (NERC), 139 people have died in Maharashtra, 126 in Kerala, 116 in West Bengal, 70 in Uttar Pradesh, 52 in Gujarat and 34 in Assam due to the floods and rains.
The deluge and rains have hit 26 districts in Maharashtra, 22 in West Bengal, 21 in Assam, 14 in Kerala, 10 in Gujarat and a large part of Uttar Pradesh so far. In Assam, 10.17 lakh people have borne the brunt of rains and floods, of which 2.17 lakh are living in relief camps. Twelve teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in rescue and relief operations in Assam, the NERC said.

A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.4 hit Lombok region of Indonesia at 22:47 UTC (06:47 local time) on July 28, 2018. The agency is reporting a depth of 6.4 km (3.9 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.4 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). This earthquake can have a medium humanitarian impact based on the magnitude and the affected population and their vulnerability.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was located 1.4 km (0.8 miles) SW of Lelongken (population 0), 27 km (16.8 miles) NW of Labuan Lombok (population 10,000), 47.8 km (29.7 miles) NNE of Praya (population 35 183), 49.5 km (30.8 miles) NE of Mataram (population 318,674) and 63.1 km (39.2 miles) NE of Lembar (population 10,000). The earthquake struck at 6.47 am local time (11.47pm BST), and its epicenter was located 80 miles north-east of the city of Mataram on the island of Lombok, which has a population of 319,000. Lombok is located close to the popular tourist destination of Bali. The earthquake was preceded by a moderate size tremor 41 minutes prior.
Local residents reported feeling aftershocks following the main tremor. A magnitude 5.5 magnitude earthquake followed the initial tremor at 0.06am BST. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) noted that the estimated population in the affected region is 6.5 million inhabitants.

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck the northern Kinneret area on Friday, according to the Geophysical Institute of Israel, making it the second to rattle the area in less than a week. The quake was felt at 11:52 am, which was also said to rumble Tiberias and northern Nazareth. The threat level of Manaro volcano on Ambae Island was raised from two to three on Saturday by the country’s Meteorological and Geo-Hazards Department. DUBAI (Reuters) - At least 25 people were injured on Monday when a magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook southeastern Iran, just a day after another quake injured nearly 290 people in the west, Iranian media reported.

“Up to now, 25 people have been reported injured while escaping after the earthquake, and they have gone to hospitals in the city of Kerman,” Majid Saeedi, head of the provincial crisis management body, told the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Rescue teams have been sent to 40 affected villages, Kerman province Red Crescent spokesman Hadi Soltani told the student news agency ISNA.

The U.S. Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 5.5, with its epicentre 23 miles (37 km) east of Kerman city. It said it was very shallow, at a depth of only 6.2 miles (10 km), which would have amplified its effect.

It was the fourth earthquake in Iran in two days

On Sunday, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit western Iran, injuring at least 287 people, hours after two quakes struck Hormozgan province in the south, the state-run news agency IRNA reported.

Houshang Bazvand, governor of the affected province of Kermanshah, told IRNA that eight of the injured had been hospitalised and the rest were released after treatment.

State media said the two earlier earthquakes, with magnitudes of 4.7 and 5.7, had damaged buildings in a few villages without causing casualties.

Morteza Salimi, head of rescue at Iran’s Red Crescent, said damage from the two earlier quakes appeared to be light. “Reports indicate that some walls have collapsed, but extensive damage has not been reported,” Salimi told IRNA.

Iran is crisscrossed by major geological fault lines and has suffered several devastating earthquakes in recent years.

Last November, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit western Kermanshah province, killing at least 620 people and injuring thousands.

In 2003, a magnitude 6.6 quake in Kerman province killed 31,000 people and flattened the historic city of Bam.

A bigger earthquake than those felt by Israelis over the past couple of days is sure to come – and Israelis should be ready for power outages and if necessary to leave their homes. So warned Amotz Agnon, professor at the Institute of Earth Sciences at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem on Thursday. In an interview conducted by the Israel Project, Agnon said that the “when, how bad and where” are not clear, but additional and more severe earthquakes are sure to come.
Israelis have felt three earthquakes over the past two days; additional ones were recorded by instruments of the Geophysical Institute of Israel. On Thursday an earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale was reported in the cities of Tiberias and Safed in northern Israel. On Wednesday night Haifa and Western Galilee region residents felt a quake measuring 4.5, and earlier Wednesday, residents of the same region felt a tremor placed at 4.1 on the Richter scale. No damage or injuries were reported.

An earthquake has hit England with residents across Surrey and Sussex feeling the 3.0 magnitude tremor. The epicenter has been placed in Cranleigh, a small village a few miles west of Crawley.  The tremor hit the Crawley area at 11.53am, with the United States Geoglogical Survey placing the epicentre at Cranleigh, Surrey. Terrified residents said they heard what sounded like thunder as they felt the ground shaking and furniture moving.  Aleesha Farnham, of Bewbush, just outside Crawley, told the Croydon Advertiser how she was screaming in fear as the earthquake struck. Israel was rattled by a series of tremors with their epicenter near Tiberias. No one was injured and no major damage was done.

Two minor seismic temblors shook Israel’s north Thursday morning, after four tremors hit Wednesday.
The most severe quake occurred Wednesday at a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale. Earlier the area was shaken by a 4.0 magnitude tremor.
These earlier quakes were felt by Israeli residents as far south as Tel Aviv, Modiin and Jerusalem, and also in Lebanon and Syria to the north.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Lower Galilee, around nine kilometers north of Tiberias.
