Abnormal earthquake swarm near Mayotte continues
An Abnormal earthquake swarm near the volcanic island of Mayotte in the Comoros Basin (Mozambique Channel) continues for nearly two months, creating anxiety and stress among locals.  The quakes are all occurring in the same spot, about 50 km (31 miles) to the east of the island. The largest so far was M5.8 on May 15. This quake was also the largest ever recorded in the archipelago. “The seismic activity
remains abnormal and persists,” scientists working for the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM), the France-based geological agency serving the territory, said July 2.  There have been no serious injury or fatality but locals have reported minor damage to buildings, including a school in Dembeni. In addition, at least 10 families have been evacuated from damaged homes and temporarily relocated, according to Africa Times.

Powerful eruption begins at Sierra Negra volcano, Evacuations ordered in Galapagos, Ecuador
A new eruption started at Sierra Negra volcano, Galapagos, Ecuador around 21:40 UTC (13:40 local time) on June 26, 2018, following intense seismicity in recent weeks. The eruption produced a plume of volcanic ash mixed with SO2 and other gases which is rising up to 8 km (27 000 feet) above sea level. Experts describe the eruption as the worst since 1979.
Some say the worst in 200 years. The last eruptive phase of this volcano started on October 22, 2005, and ended on October 30 of the same year. It had Volcanic Explosivity Index of 3.  At least 50 people living close to Sierra Negra volcano on Isabela Island have been evacuated after a series of earthquakes on June 26 resulted in one of the worst eruptions of this volcano in known history.

At least three people have been confirmed killed and more casualties are feared, after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit north of Osaka Prefecture in western Japan, local media report.
An 80-year-old man and a young 9yo girl were killed in Japan, crushed by collapsing walls, public broadcaster NHK reported. Several others are reported in a state of "cardiopulmonary arrest," a condition usually used by Japanese authorities until a formal examination has been conducted to confirm death.

At least 217 people were injured, mainly across the northern Osaka and neighboring prefectures, the broadcaster reports, citing data from local police and fire departments.

Besides electricity outages, at least one house caught fire and several major water pipes burst following the quake, according to footage shown by local TV. The jolt struck during the Monday morning rush hour, and forced a halt to some rail services. As a precaution, flights were also delayed in Osaka airport.

Powerful 7.5 earthquake strikes Papua New Guinea
A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck in the middle of Papua New Guinea on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake struck about 55 miles southwest of Porgera in the Pacific island nation at a depth of about 23 miles, according to the agency. No tsunami watches or warnings were issued from the quake,
and there were no immediate reports of injuries. The Geological Survey website had 19 reports of feeling the quake, including some saying the shaking was violent. The quake on Sunday was just the latest spark of activity this year along the volatile “Ring of Fire” seismic fault system.

It all started on July 17, 2017 as a Magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit 183km ESE of Nikol’skoye, Russia at 11:05 am (UTC). This earthquake marked the beginning of an earthquake swarm comprising at

least 15 quakes between M4.4 and M7.7 in the region. Then, a bit more than 12 hours later, 11:30 pm, a Magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit the same area of Russia – 198km ESE of Nikol’skoye, Russia. The earthquake was very shallow – only 10 km below the seabed. The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre initially warned hazardous tsunami waves were possible for coasts within 300 km of epicenter. The world has shaken violently within the last 14 hours between July 17th and July 18th.

A series of powerful quakes rocked Russia (M7.7, M6.2) and Peru (M6.4).

It all started on July 17, 2017 as a M6.2 earthquake hit 183km ESE of Nikol’skoye, Russia at 11:05 am (UTC). This earthquake marked the beginning of an earthquake swarm comprising at least 15 quakes bewteen M4.4 and M7.7 in the region.

The strong and shallow earthquake hit near the coast of Arequipa, Peru at 02:05 UTC on July 18, 2017. The agency is reporting a depth of 44.1 km (27.4 miles). This quake occurred about 2 hours ater the major M7.7 earthquake near Kamchatka (Aleutian Trench). No tsunami warning.
