As Israel lifts its indoor mask mandate, the rest of the world moves tentatively towards following suit. But some power mongers are trying to hold onto masking, a behavior that has disturbing Biblical precedents.

ISRAEL LIFTS MASK MANDATE.
On Saturday night, Israel lifted its two-year mask mandate. It was lifted for ten days in June last year but was reinstated at a resurgence in the pandemic.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that masking will still be required “at places with high contagion potential,” among which it listed hospitals, senior living facilities, and during air travel.

First imposed in April 2020, the mandate required Israelis to wear masks at all times indoors. Coincidentally, the masks came off at the end of the holiday of Passover, celebrating the Jews’ freedom from the tyrannical rule in Egypt. Israel initially instituted an outdoor mandate but dropped it one year ago.

US LIFTS TRAVEL MASKS, BUT BIDEN PERSISTS.
The US is still struggling to free itself from a mandate that requires masks on flights. President Biden imposed the mandate for airplanes and other public transport methods. Still, a federal judge in Florida struck it down on ruling that it exceeded the statutory authority of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and because its implementation violated administrative law. Biden’s Justice Department immediately appealed the ruling.

This leaves very few indoor masking requirements in the US. 

DAMAGING BEHAVIOR
The use of masks during the pandemic has had unanticipated effects. Canadian and Israeli researchers joined in a study of the impact of COVID masks on children. A recent study led by researchers at Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba and York University in Toronto found that wearing a mask hindered facial recognition in adults. The recent study concluded that this problem is even worse in children and could lead to social difficulties.

Moscow sent a diplomatic note to the US State Department this week calling on Washington to halt military aid to Ukraine, reports Reuters.

The Washington Post initially reported the document, also known as a demarche. It read: “We call on the United States and its allies to stop the irresponsible militarization of Ukraine, which implies unpredictable consequences for regional and international security.”

The document was sent as the White House prepared an announcement of the latest round of military aid to Ukraine. The package is estimated at $800 million and includes “highly effective weapons systems.”

“These new capabilities include artillery systems, artillery rounds, and armored personnel carriers. I have also approved the transfer of additional helicopters,” President Joe Biden said in a Wednesday press release regarding the new aid package. “In addition, we continue to facilitate the transfer of significant capabilities from our Allies and partners around the world.”

Earlier this month, the US State Department said that the Biden administration sent over $1.7 billion in aid to Kyiv since the conflict began on February 24.

Last week, Israel365 News reported that Ukraine’s military and officials accused Moscow of dropping chemical weapons on the port city of Mariupol.

Michael Herzog talks terror, peace and how Israel is reacting to both.

Domestic critics of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he has lost focus on internal political considerations while taking on more international concerns, such as trying to intervene diplomatically in Russia’s nearly seven-week war with Ukraine.

“Our prime minister decided at one point to try his hand in mediation. He was asked by some international leaders, especially senior European leaders, to intervene and see if there is a potential diplomatic outcome, which is why he engaged both parties,” Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Herzog told The Washington Post in an interview on Monday.

“All these moves were closely coordinated with the U.S. administration. And he talked to [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky before and after each and every move that he has taken. My understanding is that as of today, this is not produced any breakthrough,” he said. “At one point, the Ukrainian leadership asked our prime minister to convene a meeting between the parties in Jerusalem. That hasn’t happened. Right now, I don’t see a diplomatic outcome in the cards in the foreseeable future.”

He stated that to his understanding, Bennett was no longer in touch with Russian President Vladimir Putin and is no longer leading the effort to mediate, as he was a few weeks ago.

Freed from his role as globetrotting mediator, the prime minister instead has been dealing with an increasingly complex set of problems at home, including a spate of deadly Arab terror attacks, both from Israeli Arabs and Palestinian Arabs in Israel illegally. Herzog brushed aside the notion that the attacks have been coordinated, even as three of the terrorists involved had known ties and loyalties to the Islamic State.

“We had a wave of lone attackers a few years back and managed to deal with it. And I’m confident that this time, too, that our security forces will deal with it properly,” said Herzog, as he chided Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas for blaming Israel for actions in defense of its citizens, including operations by the Israel Defense Forces inside PA territory in order to apprehend suspects.

“It is regrettable that the Palestinian leadership throws fuel on the fire. We didn’t start these attacks,” stated Herzog. “They were perpetrated by people who went into the heart of Israel and killed innocent civilians, and I would expect the Palestinian leadership to issue stronger condemnations and not just accuse our forces.”

Still, Herzog said that the Islamic State’s ties to the current wave of terror in Israel shouldn’t be overlooked, even if ISIS involvement is on a purely inspirational plane. He pointed to the height of the global conflict with ISIS a few years ago, when only a few Israeli or PA citizens went to join the terrorist group.

“There was no great impact. But still, I would say they inspire some people to go out and try and kill civilians. That was the case here, and we should be on the alert.”

‘It’s time for fresh thinking’
Herzog, who for decades served as a member of Israel’s peace negotiations team, was also queried as to why Israel has been able to reach peace and normalization agreements with a number of Arab states while a deal with the Palestinians has remained elusive.

“It’s not like we haven’t tried. We tried for many, many years,” he acknowledged. “There were all sorts of offers on the table. And we failed, not for lack of trying.”

“I think in order to bring about such a deal, it would require a certain set of conditions, including leadership on both sides who can communicate and take decisions like we had between Israel and Egypt or between Israel and Jordan—where you have leadership that could take such measures, along with an effective third-party mediation marginalizing the radicals and extremists who work against peace,” explained Herzog.

“I would say that it’s time for fresh thinking about what went wrong,” he added, “and I do believe that involving some other actors like the Arabs would help us.”

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, IDF forces entered Shechem in an operation to restore the damage that Palestinians had perpetrated on the Tomb of Joseph. 

“WITH AN UPRAISED HAND.”
The commander of the Samaria Brigade, Col. Roi Zweig-Lavi, issued the following order to his soldiers at the start of the operation: 
“All stations, this is the Kodkod (commander). Today we go out for an operation to repair the destruction of Joseph’s grave complex. In this place, the land was promised to Abraham, our father.”
The officer then quoted the promise God made to Abraham the first time he appeared to him at Shechem, as it was recorded in Genesis:
Hashem appeared to Avram and said, “I will assign this land to your offspring.” Genesis 12:7

” And we are working today, with a ‘yad ramah,’” the officer said, again quoting the Bible 

Hashem stiffened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he gave chase to the Israelites. As the Israelites were departing defiantly(Exodus 14:8).

Yad Ramah literally means ‘an upraised hand.’ The Israel Bible translated yad Ramah as ‘defiantly,’ but Rashi defines it as ‘with great bravery.’
“Just as our forefathers did on their departure from Egypt on the Passover that will be celebrated in three days.” the officer continued, again quoting the Bible.

At the end of the four hundred and thirtieth year, to the very day, all the ranks of Hashem departed from the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:41
“Actually in the day. Not as thieves in the night, but as kings. This is how we merit restoring the dignity to the country and the People of Israel. Fighters, start moving to the city of Nablus”.’

The site was then repaired by civilians, marking the first Israeli renovations to the site since Prime Minister Ehud Barak abandoned it following the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000.

One Palestinian was reportedly killed during clashes that broke out near Nablus (Shechem) on Wednesday after repair teams from the Samaria Regional Council entered Joseph’s Tomb to fix the damage caused to the site by Palestinian rioters on Saturday.
The repair work lasted three hours, according to Ynet.
“Earlier this week, Palestinians vandalized the Joseph’s Tomb religious site in the city of Nablus. This morning, IDF soldiers secured the area of Joseph’s Tomb while repairs were made to the site. During the activity, hundreds of Palestinians instigated a violent riot, burned tires and hurled rocks and firebombs at the soldiers in the area. The soldiers responded with riot dispersal means and live ammunition,” the Israeli military said in a statement,

On Sunday night, two Israelis were shot while attempting to approach the tomb.

The victims, both haredi men, were taken to Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva for treatment, and were in moderate condition.

The men had “arrived at an unmanned checkpoint at one of the entrances to Shechem, broke through it, and entered the city,” the IDF said in a statement. A short time later, they arrived at another checkpoint with gunshot wounds, the statement continued.

The men claimed they had been trying to reach the tomb to repair the damage caused by Palestinian rioters.

On Saturday night, Palestinian rioters set fire to parts of the site and smashed parts of the tomb structure.

The attackers also reportedly damaged a large chandelier at the site, shattered a water tank and broke an electrical cabinet, according to Israel Hayom.

Responding to the incident, Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ran Kochav told Army Radio that the vandals had been captured by Palestinian Authority security forces.

The tomb has undergone multiple repairs in past years following attacks by Palestinians.

Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov revealed on Sunday that Russian forces would not only ‘liberate’ Eastern Ukrainian regions but will also conquer the country’s capital, Kyiv. The ambitious undertaking seems to have compelled the Kremlin to enlist Russian soldiers that have already retired a decade ago.

Chechen warriors have been on the front lines of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

UK intelligence reports that Moscow is trying to boost its military’s capability by hiring army service members who haven’t served in the military since 2012. The decision was made following “mounting losses” suffered by the Russian army.

At the same time, Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov stated that an upcoming Russian military offensive would “liberate” not just cities in Ukraine’s Donbas region. He said it will also target the capital city of Kyiv as well as “all other cities.”

In a tweet, as part of regular intelligence updates, the UK’s Defence Ministry said that Putin’s military is striving to “generate more fighting power.”

It also seeks to boost its depth by recruiting soldiers from the unrecognized Transnistria region, an area of disputed territory adjacent to Moldova, said the UK intel.

Ramadan Riots: Police Detain PA Governor of Jerusalem
The Palestinian Authority “governor” of Jerusalem, Adnan Gheith, was detained on Tuesday morning, April 5, by the police, as clashes continued for the third straight day near the Old City’s Damascus Gate.
Gheith, a resident of the village of Silwan who holds an Israeli-issued ID card, was released hours later after being served with a decision to extend an IDF order banning him from entering the West Bank.
The order means that Gheith can’t arrive at the offices of the PA’s Jerusalem Governorate in the town of Al-Ram, north of Jerusalem, which is located outside the boundaries of the Jerusalem Municipality. It also means that he can’t participate in meetings with PA officials in Ramallah or in other Palestinian cities in the West Bank.

Like all Palestinian governors, Gheith was appointed by PA President Mahmoud Abbas in 2018. The governors are regarded as the PA president’s personal representatives.

Since his appointment, Gheith has been detained at least 28 times and served with orders barring him from participating in any meetings or activities in the city.

A law approved by the Knesset in 1994 bans the PA from carrying out various activities in Israel, including in Jerusalem.

Shortly after his release, Gheith was quoted as saying that his arrest came “in the context of the occupation’s crimes against our people.” He said that despite the detention and the restrictions imposed on him and other residents of east Jerusalem, “We will remain on our land, embodying our sovereignty [in Jerusalem].”

Gheith, who also holds a senior position in the ruling Fatah faction headed by Abbas, was detained hours after dozens of Palestinians again clashed with police officers outside Damascus Gate on Monday night. The disturbances began on Saturday night, the first day of the month of Ramadan. During the riots, Palestinians attacked officers with rocks, empty bottles, iron bars, and fireworks.

Israel No Longer Has Full Freedom of Action over Lebanon
Outgoing air force chief Amikam Norkin said Israel no longer has unfettered air superiority and freedom of action in Lebanon’s skies in an interview broadcast on Tuesday, April 5.

After a drone was nearly shot down by an anti-aircraft missile over Lebanon about a year ago, Israel realized that Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group had some capabilities it was not previously aware of, Norkin said.

Israeli officials realized aircraft were threatened by Hezbollah missiles over Lebanon and decided to reduce the number of surveillance flights over its northern neighbor, harming Israel’s intelligence-gathering capabilities, Norkin told the Kan public broadcaster.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah is believed to be holding onto some weapons, like anti-aircraft missiles, in case of war with Israel to surprise Israeli forces, the report said.

The report seemed to confirm a boast by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in February that Israeli drone flights over Lebanon have been “greatly reduced” due to Hezbollah’s improved air defenses.

“We need to present what we can do, not only in Iran, in 2022, 2023, and on. But we also need to stand by what we cannot do, because the air force head has a huge responsibility,” Norkin said. “And based on what answers they give, decisions are made by the leadership. So I only give accurate, reliable answers about what we can do.”

The Israeli Air Force regularly acts against Iran-linked targets in Syria, and sometimes over Lebanon, but has been contending with new aerial challenges from Hezbollah and other adversaries.

The Israeli military fears that in the coming years its air superiority may be tested as Iranian-made and -designed drones and cruise missiles flood the Middle East, representing a greater threat to Israel than the simple rockets that terror groups in the region have possessed until now. Israel Concerned over Iranian Takeover of Syrian Golan
With the end of Syria's civil war, the IDF has identified a new threat brought about by the demographic change and significant growth of the Alawite and Shiite population in Syria.

According to Israel Hayom, the concern is that Iran and Hezbollah will utilize the current situation to enlist supporters and activists from among the Shiite population, similar to what they have done in Lebanon.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who won the decade-long civil war, is now trying to regain complete independence for his country.

In the past one-and-a-half years, Assad seems to have been "born again": He controls over 60% of the original territory he had prior to 2011, with the rest of the area split between the Turks, Kurds (with US support), and rebels, who still have a significant stronghold in Idlib.

In addition to the territorial change, the war brought with it a significant demographic change. In 2011, prior to the Syrian civil war, Syria numbered 21.3 million citizens, 59% of whom were Sunni, 11% of whom were Alawite, and just 4% of whom were Shiite. Today, Syria's population numbers around 10 million, with Shiites representing 10% and Alawites 30%.

In other words, if ten years ago the Shiites and Alawites comprised 15% of Syria's population, today they represent 40% of the population, and their representation is only expected to increase. (INN / VFI News)

On Thursday night, the festive atmosphere of Tel Aviv was shattered by gunfire as a Palestinian terrorist went on a murderous rampage, killing two young Jewish men and seriously injuring ten others. This marked the fourth deadly attack in one month, bringing the horrific death toll to thirteen Israelis. 
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE GRIEVING FAMILIES AND THE INJURED
Tomer Mordad and Eitam Megini, both age 27, were identified as the victims of Thursday night’s attack. Childhood friends who grew up together in Kfar Saba, they shared an apartment in Tel Aviv and had gone out to meet friends at a pub. The mother of Ayala, the fiancée of one of the victims of the terror attack in Tel Aviv last night, says that the family had planned to celebrate the couple’s engagement with a party this evening.

Israel365’s founder, Rabbi Tuly Weisz, commented on the attacks:
“Make no mistake; Tomer and Eitam were murdered just because they were Jews living in Israel,” Rabbi Weisz said. He explained that from the Palestinian perspective, this period of Ramadan is ‘sanctified’ by increased bloodshed whereas Jews are preparing for Passover and redemption.

The wave of violence coincides with the Muslim month of Ramadan. Intended as the Muslim month of ‘piety’, Ramadan has become a period of increased Islamic violence in recent years.

The God of Abraham promised this Land for the Jews and we will defend every inch by not giving in to terrorism.”

In the wake of the attack in Tel Aviv,  Palestinian men were seen handing out candy and other sweets in Palestinian-controlled areas to celebrate the attacks on Israelis.

Israelis reacted in a different manner. When the news broke of the deadly shooting attack, the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra stopped in mid-performance and played the “Hatikvah” (the hope), Israel’s national anthem.

A group of religious Jews held morning prayers on the sidewalk location where the attack first broke out. 

Rabbi Weisz also responded to the reality of living in Israel under the threat of terrorism.

“As a father, it is frightening these days to send my children to school,” Rabbi Weisz said. “Yet we must carry on with strength and faith in our God-given right to the Land of Israel.”

Not one to sit idly by when crisis strikes, Rabbi Weisz mobilized the Israel365 community in a campaign to provide emergency trauma kits that are packed with life-saving materials. Israel365 wants to purchase and distribute hundreds of Emergency Kits for schools, restaurants, and synagogues since we never know where they will be needed.

Lebanon’s Deputy Prime Minister, Saadeh al-Shami made an official announcement on Monday declaring that Lebanon is bankrupt. This development appears to have been prophesied in the Bible by Ezekiel.

Speaking to Al-Arabiya, Saadeh said that the losses will be distributed to the government, the central Banque du Liban, banks, and depositors. “There is no conflict of views about the distribution of losses,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the state is bankrupt, as is the Banque du Liban. Our Government wanted to come up with a solution, and the loss occurred due to policies for decades, but if we did nothing, the loss would be much greater.”

Saadeh continued, “This is a fact that cannot be ignored, and we cannot live in a state of denial, and we cannot open (bank) withdrawals to everyone. I wish that our situation was  normal.”

On Thursday, President Joe Biden made a speech for International Transgender Day, beginning with a statement that showed the depth of his faith and his belief in the Bible:

“To everyone celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility, I want you to know that your President sees you,” the president said. “The First Lady, the Vice President, the Second Gentleman, and my entire Administration see you for who you are — made in the image of God and deserving of dignity, respect, and support. On this day and every day, we recognize the resilience, strength, and joy of transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people.”

CONTRADICTING THE MESSAGE THE PRESIDENT WAS TRYING TO CONVEY
The president appeared to be performing one of his infamous misquotes of famous texts, inaccurately citing the biblical (but inappropriate) verse from Genesis:

And Hashem created man in His image, in the image of Hashem, He created him; male and female, He created them. Genesis 1:27

The verse contradicts the message the president was trying to convey. The verse explicitly describes the creation of man and woman, establishing gender as being binary. The president expressly thanked “nonbinary” people.

BREAKING GLASS CEILINGS
The president praised people with gender dysphoria for “breaking glass ceilings of representation on television and movie screens,” while at the same time, he criticized  “anti-transgender bills in States…most of them targeting transgender kids.” 

Biden was most likely referring to the passage of Florida’s HB 1557 parental rights bill. The bill has been mislabeled in the left-wing media as the “don’t say gay bill.” The bill does not relate to homosexuals or homosexuality. The law prohibits public school teachers in Florida from holding classroom instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity in grades K-3.    

Some employees from Disney, Florida’s biggest employer, staged a walk-out in protest, demanding the corporation be more active in fighting the legislation. Soon after, a video surfaced videovideo surfaced soon after showing Disney executives discussing a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” focused on “adding queerness” to children’s programming.

A DAY OF VISIBILITY
The president also praised transgender people for serving in the military. This was self-praise as last year when he institutedTransgender Day of Visibility. The Pentagon concurrently announced new policies providing “access to the military in one’s self-identified gender provided all appropriate standards are met.” The policy effectively reversed the military policy that previously allowed the exclusion of transgender people from service on medical grounds. 

In an additional nod to the day, the White House flagged a resource from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health on “Transgender Day of Visibility” intended to “inform parents and guardians, educators, and other persons supporting children and adolescents with information on what is gender-affirming care and why it is important to transgender, nonbinary, and other gender-expansive young people’s well-being.”

“Gender-affirming care” is a euphemism that describes processes that include surgical removal of a woman’s breasts, surgical removal of reproductive organs, and surgical construction of sex organs. It also describes hormone treatments, including puberty blockers administered in an off-label manner to minors. This can render the individual permanently sterile, and the long-term effects have never been studied. 

The government website states that some of these treatments can be implemented in adolescence or early adolescence. 

CRUCIAL TO OVERALL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING?
“For transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents, early gender-affirming care is crucial to overall health and well-being as it allows the child or adolescent to focus on social transitions and can increase their confidence while navigating the healthcare system,” the White House messaging says. 

The current Assistant Secretary of Health is Dr. Rachel Levine. Levine, the father of two children, is transgender. Levine refused to answer questions about the adverse effects of gender reassignment treatments on adolescents during the confirmation hearings.

Advocating for transgenderism is entering other areas of government. During the confirmation hearings of  Ketanji Brown Jackson for a seat on the Supreme Court, the judge stated that she could not define what a woman is. This was meant to pave the way for future rulings in cases regarding gender identity.

This week, five terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 11 Israelis. Some experts believe that this violence results from Muslim ‘prophecies’ circulating for 25 years. And with Ramadan beginning Saturday night, this violence is, for many reasons, expected to get even worse.

On Wednesday night, a Palestinian terrorist murdered four Israelis in Bnei Brak. Just two days earlier, two Israeli-Arab terrorists murdered two 19-year-old Border Police officers in Hadera in an attack claimed by the Islamic State. One week earlier, a Bedouin-Palestinian terrorist killed four Israelis in a stabbing and vehicular ramming attack in Beersheba.

MUSLIM ‘PROPHECY’
In 1997, Sheikh Bassam Jarrar, a Hamas-affiliated Palestinian scholar, wrote  “Israel’s Disappearance in 2022 – Quran Prophecy or Numerical Coincidence”. In the book, Jarrar interpreted a section of the Koran known as the Sura al-Isra, which stated that the Jews corrupted the land twice. Jarrar interpreted this to mean that Jews corrupted Medina in the time of Mohammad and would come to corrupt Jerusalem in current days. Using Arabic numerology known as Hisāb alJummal, Jarrar inspected the appearances in the Koran of the number 19, a significant number in Islam. Ironically, he cites a “legend or prophecy” he attributed to an old Jewish woman from Tiberias who, before the state was established,  predicted Israel would exist for 76 years (four times 19) and no more.

Based on his calculations, Jarrar stated that 2022 was the beginning of Israel’s downfall. On 5 March of this year, Jarrār predicted that a huge event would mark the beginning of the “Israeli downfall.” 

The Israeli government deported Jarrar to Lebanon in 1993, but his book sparked a wave of ‘prophecies’ about the imminent demise of Israel. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of Hamas who died in 2004, told Al Jazeera that Israel will cease to exist in 2027. He based this on the story of 40 years of wilderness wandering mentioned in the Koran and the Torah. He explained that this was an example of an entire generation as a stage of change. Each phase is forty years, and upon the completion of two generations, Israel will lose its foundations and collapse.

Iraqi  Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al-Rashed cited Yassin while listing seven reasons Israel will cease to exist this year. He also related a story about an old Jewish woman who, upon hearing in 1948 that Israel had declared its independence, cited a ‘prophecy’ that this was a sign of its ultimate destruction and would not last more than 76 years.

Al-Rashed linked his conclusions to Jewish astronomy and astrology, claiming that rabbis attach much importance to astrological events. Al-Rashed referenced Halley’s comet, which passes by the Earth every 76 years. He stated that its appearance in 164 BCE signaled the destruction of the Jewish presence in “Palestine” (sic). 

This reference by Al-Rashed is incongruous as Haley’s Comet is not expected to pass by the Earth until 2061. It is incongruous as the First Temple was destroyed in 586 BCE, and the Second Temple was destroyed in 70 CE. The first confirmed sighting of Haley’s Comet was in 240 BCE, over 300 years after the destruction of the First Temple. Haley’s Comet did appear in 66 CE but was described by the Romano-Jewish historian Josephus as appearing several years before the destruction of the Second Temple.

In 2014, Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hamad said that the Palestinians would liberate all of Palestine “within eight years” in 2022. In 2015, in an interview on Lebanese TV, the Imam of the mosque of Al Quds in Sidon, Maher Hamoud, said that “according to calculations based on the Quran, the end of Israel will be in 2022.”

In February, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, a Palestinian writer and academic based in Istanbul, wrote that “for many Palestinians, 2022 is an exceptional year as it marks the beginning of the ‘downfall’ of the Israeli occupation.”

“How these prophecies might affect the attitudes and behaviors of the people who believe in them could be the right question. Yet, we will find many in the traumatized Arab World who would wait for them to come true,” he wrote.

Perhaps the most influential of these ‘prophecies was stated in an interview with Al Jazeera by Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of Hamas who died in 2004. Yassin told Al Jazeera that Israel would cease to exist in 2027. He based this on the story of 40 years of wilderness wandering mentioned in the Koran and the Torah. He explained that this was an example of an entire generation as a stage of change. Each phase is forty years, and upon the completion of two generations, Israel will lose its foundations and collapse. Yasin cited the Koran’s version of the Exodus in which Allah commanded the children of Israel to wander in the wilderness for 40 years so that the cowardly generation would die and a warrior generation would rise in its place. 

Yassin claimed that “the Palestinian people were defeated in 1948 and expelled from their homeland”. He noted that 40 years later, the Intifada broke out in Gaza and “forced Israel and the world to recognize the existence of the Palestinian people.” He used this as the basis for his claim that Israel would end within the next 40 years.

These ‘prophecies’ will take on intensified import in the coming weeks as the month-long Ramadan period will begin on Saturday evening.

Rabbi Chaim Kneievsky, this generation’s preeminent Torah leader and known among the Haredim as “the Prince of Torah,” passed away ten days ago. Approximately one million mourners attended his funeral, making it the largest funeral in Israel’s history. And his passing may have taken with it a blessing of protection of his hometown, Bnei Brak, after a gruesome terror attack hit the central city for the first time ever.

The day that Rabbi Kanievsky passed away was Shushan Purim. Shushan Purim is the 15th of Adar when the people in Jerusalem celebrate Purim, one day after the rest of the Jewish nation. Rabbi Amram Vaknin, known for his deep connection to the Prophet Elijah and his prophetic visions, passed away on the same day Rabbi Amram Vaknin, known for his deep connection to the Prophet Elijah and his prophetic visions passed away. One day later, Rabbi Grainom Lazewnik, universally recognized for his piety, passed away at the age of 106 in Flatbush, New York.

At the time, Rabbi Yosef Berger, a former member of the Sanhedrin and the son of the Mishkoltz Rebbe, warned that the passing of such a great and revered holy man would pose a threat to the nation. Rabbi Berger cited the Talmud (Sanhedrin 97a), which states that in the generation before the Messiah reveals himself, Torah scholars will decrease in number.

“The righteous of the generation, especially one as great as Rabbi Kanievsky, are taken to save the generation from trials and tribulations that are coming,” Rabbi Berger said. “In the last generation, no rabbi spoke about the imminent Messiah-like Rabbi Kanievsky did. He requested from me that since the Messiah is about to be revealed, anyone who wants to be spared from the birth pangs that precede the Messiah should immediately begin learning Torah and performing acts of loving-kindness. He told me to shout this from the rooftops, to announce it on loudspeakers, anything to get the people to listen.”

Rabbi Berger’s warning seemed to have materialized as this week; five terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 11 Israelis in the past week.

Rabbi Yehoshua Gerzi, the head of the Pilzno community in Ramat Bet Shemesh, explained that the ability to protect is inherent in every person.

“Yes, the righteous who work on themselves and improve themselves in service to God are always praying for the protection of others, and God hears their prayers. If everyone on this planet worked on themselves, improved in caring and sharing, prayed more deeply, we would all be protected on a much higher level.”

Rabbi Gersh related a story about Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, also known as the Chazon Ish. Rabbi Karekitz, recognized for his piety and acuity in Torah law, was Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky’s uncle. Before he left the world in 1953, Rabbi Karelitz walked around the entire city of Bnei Brak, where he lived, drawing a line on the ground as he walked. 

“He said that Bnei Brak would be protected,” Rabbi Karelitz related. “During the Gulf war or any times rockets fell nearby in Tel Aviv, people in Bnei Brak carried on without any worries. We knew we were protected.”

Rabbi Gersh recounted that Rabbi Kanievsky had assured the people of Bnei Brak in 2012 that no rockets would fall in their city.  An estimated 2,257 rockets were launched at Israel from Gaza in 2012. No rockets have ever fallen in Bnei Brak.

“Until this week, there was never a terror attack in the city either,” Rabbi Gersh stated. “Our shield has been removed.”

The Ukrainian army used a synagogue in Uman, Ukraine, as a gathering and ammo storage depot to fight Russia. On Wednesday, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told the Tass News Agency told the Tass News Agency on Wednesday.

Uman is considered a holy site by many Jews as the revered Rabbi Nachman of Breslov is buried there. Every year on Rosh Hashannah, thousands of Jews worldwide make a pilgrimage to the site as he once instructed his students to do.

Konashenkov accused Zelensky of violating international humanitarian law and fundamental immorality. The Kremlin official accused Ukraine of exploiting houses of worship and other places of public worship as gathering and transfer points for weapons. He added that Ukraine’s Nazi troops are leading the initiative.

“Today, we are presenting evidence received from an Uman Jewish community member that the Zelensky regime used the building of the new city synagogue, located at 1 Shosseiny Lane, for this purpose,” Konashenkov revealed.

The Defense Ministry released images taken the day after Zelensky’s speech to the Israeli Knesset. Konashenkov emphasized that “two nationalist columns” on the synagogue’s property were caught on camera.

“I draw your attention to the fact that the nationalists initially loaded the property, weapons, and ammunition stored in the synagogue into dump trucks and then disguised as bags containing construction debris.”

He said that the Ukrainian military also transported both nationalists and foreign mercenaries from western Ukraine to the premises. This included “buses with school vehicle markings and featuring signs written ‘Children’ on them are being used, as can be clearly seen in the photographs,” the major general warned.

“The Kyiv nationalist regime is purposely exploiting a site of Jewish worship in Uman for military purposes to instigate a conflict and political pressure by Jewish religious organizations on Russia if it were fired on,” he added.

Konashenkov noted how “on March 20, Zelensky complained to the Israeli Knesset, accusing Russia of allegedly striking the Uman. “For a dramatic effect, Zelensky stated, ‘this is a place that tens of thousands of Israelis visit every year on pilgrimage.'”.

Konashenkov emphasized that the Russian military doesn’t target civilian sites, houses of worship, or any other places of public worship.

Despite threats of increased terror attacks, MK Itamar Ben Gvir visited the Temple Mount on Thursday. The nationalist lawmaker was called a “pyromaniac” by the Joint List, a party that consists primarily of Arabs and has often been accused of placing enemy interests over Israel’s.


After receiving permission from the police to ascend the holy site, the Joint List released a statement saying: “It has again been proven that the real problem in Jerusalem is the police no less than the guilty pyromaniac Ben Gvir.” It should be noted that MK Ben Gvir has never been accused or convicted of arson.

The statement read: “The government of Israel is responsible for all escalation from Ben Gvir’s provocation, which is dancing on blood and storming the Al-Aqsa mosque. He and the police ignited the riots last May and are seemingly addicted to the fire that will hit everyone.”

A defiant Ben Gvir responded to the threats saying: “We can not communicate with terrorists with submission and weakness. My tour delivers one message: We can not allow the state of Israel to fold to terrorists that want to kill us all. Submission and weakness invite terrorism and whoever controls the Temple Mount controls the entire Land of Israel – the enemy also understands this.”

In response to threats from Hamas, Ben Gvir recommended that Hamas “shut their mouths,” calling for the targeted assassination of terrorists.

Temple Mount tourguide and activist Michael Miller responded to Ben Gvir’s decision in an interview with Israel365 News saying:” I’m relieved and proud that MK Itamar Bengvir ascended the Temple Mount today, despite many dead threats from Arabs on his life. By ascending the holiest site in Judaism, he’s expressing Jewish nationalist and Zionist pride while the State of Israel on the other hand is expressing weakness, unwillingness, and capitulation to Arab terror in Israel that has raised its ugly head ahead of the “holy month” of Ramadan. It’s a real shame that he’s the only (or one of the only) MK’s willing to do what’s necessary to save the Jewish identity of the country. What does the Russian invasion of Ukraine have to do with the Messiah? Everything, according to one rabbi who studied the Talmud’s prophecy. Rabbi Yehuda Richter of Kfar Tappuach revealed in a recent lecture entitled ‘Emergency Broadcast: Russia, Ukraine, Armageddon, Bringing the Redemption’ that in the Talmud, a little-known prophesy touches on how wars in “the seventh year” are a sign of the End-of-days and a harbinger of the Messiah’s arrival.
THE NUMBER SEVEN
In the presentation, the rabbi cites his sources in the Talmud, saying:

“Talmud tractate of megillah page 17, side B also you could refer to Sanhedrin 97 side A. We are told that the great assembly of the 120 sages they arranged and compiled the silent Amida – the 18 benedictions, the 18 prayers, and every blessing originally was 18. Then afterward, of course, 19 but every single blessing that the great assembly assembled and there was a purpose and a reason why that blessing had to be exactly in that spot. The Talmud asks – we know that the seventh blessing of the Amidah is asking God to look at our troubles and to redeem us. So why is redemption connected to the number seven?”

MONTHS OF REDEMPTION
The rabbi explains that the Nation of Israel will experience redemption in the seventh year – or the Sabbatical year, which we are in right now. Furthermore, the rabbi adds that the war in Ukraine is happening in the months that are associated with redemption – Adar (February-March), whereby the Jewish people celebrate their redemption from destruction during the holiday of Purim and Nissan (March-April), where the Jewish people celebrate their redemption from Egypt on the holiday of Passover.
“The Talmud says that the Jewish people will be redeemed in the seventh year in the sabbatical year. Not only are we in a sabbatical year, but we are in three months of the year that are redemption – that are really geared for redemption. That’s two months of Adar where the redemption of Purim occurred and also the following month of Nissan where the redemption of Passover – leaving Egypt occurred.”
WARS AT THE END OF THE SEVENTH YEAR
Rabbi Richter explains that the Talmud prophesizes wars in the seventh year, and in the eighth year, the Messiah will arrive: “The tractate of Derech Zuta in the 10th chapter, the first law it says they’re a little bit different. It says there will be wars during the seventh year, specifically at the end of the seventh year. The beginning of the eighth year, then the Messiah of David will come to redeem the Jewish people – the Mashiach, the Son of David.”

Blinken gave a speech after meeting with Prime Minister Naftali 
Bennett on Sunday. The US diplomat’s mind was elsewhere as he opened his speech by describing the dire situation in Ukraine. 

He then moved on to emphasize his commitment to the “two-solution” which would address “some of the challenges facing Palestinians”.A “two-state solution” would create an unprecedented Arab state within Israel’s borders that has been ethnically cleansed of Jews with its capital in an exclusively Muslim Jerusalem. Patterned after Gaza, this would increase the mandate of the armed Palestinian Police.

Blinken noted that the Biden administration is strengthening its ties with the Palestinian Authority towards this end, notably by increasing funding to the PA by half a billion dollars since April 2021.

It should be noted that one month after this aid began, over 4,600 rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza and Israeli Arabs carried out vicious riots and attacks inside Israel. There were 902 Arab terrorist attacks on Israelis in the period between March 2021 and September 2021.

Blinken then cited the main obstacles to a negotiated peace:

“Today, we also discussed ways to foster a peaceful Passover, Ramadan and Easter across Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, particularly in Jerusalem, a city of such profound importance to Jews, to Christians, to Muslims. And that means working to prevent actions on all sides that could raise tensions, including settlement expansion, settler violence, incitement to violence, demolitions, payments to individuals convicted of terrorism, evictions of families from homes they’ve lived in for decades.” 

These statements condemning Israel came in response to an explicit demand by PA President Mahmoud Abbas made earlier in the day in a meeting with Blinken.

Just a few hours after Blinken uttered these accusations of Israeli aggression, two Palestinian terrorists armed with automatic weapons killed two Israeli police officers and critically wounded four more in a shooting attack that took place Sunday evening in Hadera. Even worse, he made these accusations five days after a terror attack in Be’er Sheva that left four Israelis dead and two more wounded. The Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the murders.

Also on Sunday, three yeshiva students were attacked by Arab mobs armed with clubs and stones as they walked near Homesh in Samaria.

On Friday night, Arabs set up an ambush outside the Jewish town of Ma’ale Levona in the Binyamin region, building a barricade of rocks on the road. Three young women managed to evade the Arab mobs waiting for them.

The western concern is far more than just Ukrainian oppression, as there are even at this moment worse cases of oppression taking place. So the question here is not so much ‘who against who’ but, rather, ‘what against what.’ What is the principle that the West is so concerned about that they are willing to face off against Russia?”

Feiglin gave World War II as an example, a similar war of ideas pitting the free world against Nazism.

“If the war in Ukraine were between two Putins, no one would care. When Assad used gas against his people, the US stepped back and let Russia take over Syria. Russian expansionism was not such a great concern there. The Russian incursion into Ukraine is the same, but it seems to have touched a nerve.”

BRINGING BACK CZARIST RUSSIA
“It is a war of ideas but not for democracy. There is no question that Putin is not motivated by righteous principles. He wants to bring back Czarist Russia by recreating the greater Russian Empire.”  

“You would think that the West is motivated by a desire to support democracy. Though Ukraine may be making some movements towards democracy, it is not a democracy.”

“Democracy, as it is defined no longer, exists today anywhere in the world. The West has moved towards eliminating nationalism to establish international organizations. Who makes decisions about public health, international finance, and commerce? An international court replaces the local courts. International corporations dictate to the governments. Who decides whether or not you can walk outside your house and go to the supermarket? These are not elected governments. These are non-elected officials who have international influence.”

ESTABLISHING GLOBAL HUMANISM
“Western progressivism transcends all identities, establishing global humanism as an overriding identity that supersedes the family, religion, or even race. People lose their identities and are identified as part of increasingly larger groups, i.e., race, gender, etc. In this perspective, we are all citizens of the global entity, not of our choosing.”

Understandably, people would oppose him, but there is no lack of brutal fascists that have gone ignored and are still being ignored by the West. Zelensky has captured the full and enthusiastic support of the West, and it is important to understand why.”

“In this particular conflict, Zelensky represents the move towards globalism. The powers of globalism target anyone who does not throw their full support behind Zelensky. This is the same ideology that enabled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to use the financial system against individuals even though Canada is a democracy. This is the West that is so desperate to get behind Zelensky. In this respect, Putin is far less of a threat to Israel today than the globalism running to support Zelensky.”

After discovering graffiti sprayed on the holy stones of the Temple Mount, Beyadenu, an NGO that advocates for Jewish rights on the Temple Mount, petitioned the municipality of Jerusalem to have it removed. At the same time, the organization, led by Tom Nissani, filed a complaint with the Israeli police. The graffiti was sprayed in several places in the northern section of the Temple Mount Compound. The graffiti, written in Arabic, was names of people along with nationalist and anti-Israel/anti-Semitic slogans.

Nissani received a shocking response from the mayor’s office:

“The office of Mayor Moshe Lion has received your petition concerning the situation. The municipal branch in charge of caring for the condition of the city investigated the possibility of entering to care for the problem and erase the graffiti but encountered refusal due to the security situation.”

The police responded that they “are dealing with the situation.”

Nissani was not satisfied with the response.

“The Arabs relate to the Temple Mount like it is their national playground,” he told Israel365 news. “The municipality tried to enter to deal with the problem, but the police stopped them.”

“The city of Jerusalem is responsible for the upkeep of the Temple Mount, but Israel does not enforce the laws on the Temple Mount. If this happened anywhere else in the country, if this happened in any city globally, the municipality would take care of it. Spraying graffiti on a site of this importance is unheard of.”

Nissani compared it to other locations of historical and cultural significance worldwide. 

“Of course, it is even worse at the Temple Mount, which has religious significance to the Jews. The Muslims claim that it is religiously significant to them, but it seems very strange that they would vandalize the Temple Mount if it were important to them.”

“This is our holiest site, and it is our responsibility to preserve it as a house of prayer for all nations,” Nissani said.” We are doing a disservice to the world by allowing this to happen.”

There is a long history of Arabs defacing the site. In August, graffiti proclaiming, “Today and tomorrow is our Jerusalem,” the name “Al-Aqsa,” and several names in Arabic appeared in the northern section of the Temple Mount.

After Nissani filed a complaint, he received a reply from the Jerusalem District Attorney, stating: “We have been informed that the graffiti has been removed. The police on the Temple Mount are dealing with the issue regularly.”

The nationalist slogans were removed, but the names remained. 

Even more disturbing was an incident in October 2014 when a swastika was, along with graffiti equating Jews and Nazis, was discovered on the Temple Mount.

In July 2019, the Arabic phrase “Slaughter the Jews” was spray-painted on the “Little Western Wall,” a section of the Western Wall located in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. The site is considered the second closest place outside of the Temple Mount to the location of the Holy of Holies in the Second Jewish Temple, which stood on the site. As a result, the Little Western Wall is considered by Jews to be particularly sacred.

Despite the conflict between Russia and Ukraine being geographically distant from the Middle East, it has dire implications for Israel and one rabbi even compares the political situation to that which led to the destruction of Solomon’s Temple. Though the US government has taken a pro-Ukraine stance, a closer look reveals that Israel may not be as neutral as many believe and its best interests may be served by siding with Russia.

The first and most obvious reason is Russia’s substantial military presence in Syria. Russia has given its tacit approval of Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian military sites. A line of communication was established several set up between Putin and Israel’s former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2014 to allow Israel to inform Russia of these attacks. Ironically, was established after Russia seized Crimea during the Obama administration. 

It should be noted that in mid-February this year, Israel rejected a Biden administration request to deploy the Iron Dome air defense system in Ukraine. This is ironic as last September, House Democrats tried to remove $1 billion in funding for Israel’s Iron Dome. 

Significantly, the Biden administration has aggressively pursued reinstating the Iran deal, seemingly at any cost, a policy that enables Iranian expansionist policies accomplished through arming proxies (like Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Hamas) that are considered terrorist organizations by US allies. This has alienated these allies including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.  

This compares to an agreement between Russia and Israel in which Russia agreed not to sell arms to Iran in exchange for Israel not selling arms to the Ukraine and Georgia.

It should be remembered that while the US is alienating oil-producing countries and calling for a boycott of Russian energy (all while the Biden administration pursues a policy of cutting back US oil production), Russia is the largest supplier of oil to Israel via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, connecting the Caspian Sea with the Mediterranean, and passing through Georgia and Turkey.

The ties between Israel and Russia have many forms. Israel is a significant tourist destination for Russia. The two countries enjoy visa-free travel between them. Of 3, 25 million tourists to Israel in 2016, 17% were from Russia. Russia’s and Israel’s space agencies work together under a cooperation agreement. Among their joint projects is the development of a high-resolution satellite-based spy camera.


Yandex, the Russian equivalent of Google, established a School of Data Science at Tel Aviv University. The one-year program recruits from computer science graduates and from the cybernetic units of the Israeli Defence Force. The focus is on machine learning and AI.

Any relations between Ukraine and the Jewish state are carried out under the shadow of the Holocaust in which Ukraine played a significant and active role. Between 1941 and 1944, more than a million Jews living in the Soviet Union were murdered by Nazi Germany’s “Final Solution” extermination policies. Most of them were killed in Ukraine because most pre-WWII Soviet Jews lived in the Pale of Settlement, of which Ukraine was the biggest part. About 100,000 Ukrainians joined police units that provided key assistance to the Nazis. Volunteers carried out anti-Jewish manhunts and murder actions. Though many claims of collaboration have been made, the Ukrainian government has never put a single person on trial.

The history of anti-Semitism in Ukraine is long and vicious perhaps due to its large Jewish population. A third of the Jews of Europe previously lived in Ukraine between 1791 and 1917, within the Pale of Settlement. But this made the Jews a visible target and a handy scapegoat. Pogroms have been carried out since the 12th century.

Though the government officially claims that its legacy of anti-Semitism has been reversed, Ukraine has in recent years erected a glut of statues honoring Ukrainian nationalists whose legacies are tainted by their indisputable record as Nazi proxies. 

Far-right groups have also gained political currency in the past decade, none more chilling than Svoboda (formerly the Social-National Party of Ukraine), whose leader claimed the country was controlled by a “Muscovite-Jewish mafia” and whose deputy used an anti-Semitic slur to describe Ukrainian-born Jewish actor Mila Kunis. Svoboda has sent several members to Ukraine’s Parliament, including one who called the Holocaust a “bright period” in human history, according to Foreign Policy.

This is also apparent in the Azov Battalion, founded by an avowed white supremacist who claimed Ukraine’s national purpose was to rid the country of Jews and other inferior races. Azov is now an official member of the Ukraine National Guard. In 2018, the U.S. Congress stipulated that its aid to Ukraine couldn’t be used “to provide arms, training or other assistance to the Azov Battalion.” Nonetheless, recent reports indicate that Azov may have been funded and trained by the US.

It should be noted that in World War II against the Nazis, losses of the Soviet Union from all related causes were about 27,000,000 both civilian and military, although exact figures are disputed. Russians surely remember Ukrainian complicity and react strongly to the current taint of Nazism in Ukraine.

Israel’s complicated relationship with Ukraine was underscored three weeks ago when 141 countries voted in favor of the resolution in the UN General Assembly to reaffirm Ukrainian sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The resolution demanded that Russia “immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.” 

In late February, the United States asked Israel to co-sponsor their UN Security Council resolution against Russia. Israel declined.

It is rather poignant that Israel supported Ukraine in the UN, a forum in which Ukraine has not shown support for Israel. In 2016, Ukraine voted in favor of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 which declared Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria to be illegal and rejected Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem.

Rabbi Tuly Weisz, the publisher of Israel365 News, compared the current political environment to that which led up to the destruction of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem in 586 BCE.

“Israel must do what is in Israel’s best interests,” Rabbi Weisz said. “Israel cannot afford to endanger itself by ‘being nice’ while the US is not taking a strong stance to support its allies. Israel will emerge from this strong, no matter what happens. It is all of the other countries that need to be careful and consider their actions. The US is harming itself and harming the world by pushing through the Iran deal which is diminishing America’s power,” Rabbi Weisz said. “

“This situation cannot be disregarded as there are prophetic and Biblical implications to this conflict in Ukraine,” Rabbi Weisz said. “Now, more than ever, Israel needs its Christian allies in the US to stand strong, for your sake as well as ours.”

“This is reminiscent of the destruction of the First Temple,” Rabbi Weisz said. “Israel was stuck in the middle of the unsuccessful effort by the Assyrians to invade Egypt and we bet on the wrong horse,  eventually rebelling against Babylonia by not paying tributes. Neither of them was the good guy but one was strong and the other was weak; one was on the rise and the other was on the decline. But this bad call in the Egyptian-Assyrian conflict led to the destruction of the Temple and the Babylonian Exile.”


“God forbid, we cannot let Israel be destroyed,” Rabbi Weisz concluded.”We have to serve God but that does not mean making a political move because one side is being portrayed as the good guy.”

Citing fears of possible food shortages amid the Ukraine crisis, Israel’s transportation minister instructed that cargo ships importing grain and animal feed be given priority for unloading at the port docks over the next month.

This solution of stocking up on grains before a predicted famine mirrors the Bible’s Joseph. Joseph, son of Jacob, was promoted to be the prince of Egypt after he interpreted Pharaoh’s dream of withering grain stocks devouring healthy ones as an imminent famine in Egypt. Joseph then advised Pharaoh to stock up on wheat to have enough reserves once the famine strikes.

Let that food be a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which will come upon the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish in the famine.”(Genesis 41:36)

Israel appears to be heeding Joseph’s ancient advice in prioritizing wheat over other imported goods. “We face challenges to our food security at the time being because of the worrying developments in Ukraine,” noted Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli in a statement on Thursday.

“The State of Israel must safeguard its food security by strengthening our domestic agriculture. Taking steps to get the grain and fodder that Israeli agriculture relies on, the nation will quickly ensure that we maintain Israeli food security despite changes worldwide.”

According to the statement, shipping and Ports head Yigal Maor already took “several steps” to implement the decision.

Earlier this week, Israel365 News reported that the UN also warned of global food shortages. David Beasley, the UN World Food Programme’s executive director, warned that the conflict in Ukraine could spark off a refugee crisis worse than any ever seen before and a global food crisis in a combination. He described it as “hell.”

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, this generation’s preeminent Torah leader and known among the Haredim “the Prince of Torah,” passed away on Friday during Shushan Purim at 94. Born in Poland in 1928, Rabbi Kanievsky moved to Israel with his family when he was six years old and never left the country. 

LARGEST IN ISRAEL’S HISTORY
Police expect his funeral in Bnei Brak at noon on Sunday to be the largest in Israel’s history. Some estimates place the expected attendance of the funeral at one million people. 

Despite Jewish law stating it is customary to bury the dead on the day they die, leading rabbis decided it was best to hold Kanievsky’s funeral on Sunday, following consultations.

Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was stuck for over an hour at Kanievsky’s home after coming to pay respects due to the intense crowding in the area.
Rabbi Kanievsky never made public statements concerning the Messiah until 2011, when he shocked his followers by interpreting the Arab Spring uprisings as evidence that the Messiah might be near. These statements became more frequent and more intense. In 2015, following the 2014 Jerusalem synagogue attack, he repeatedly referred to the imminent arrival of the Messiah. He urged diaspora Jews to make aliyah (immigrate to Israel), reportedly resulting in the arrival of a substantial number of French Jews. In February 2020, shortly before the Israeli legislative elections, it was reported that Rabbi Kanievsky had stated that the coming of the Messiah was imminent and that he was holding meetings with him.

A rectangular pool on the island of Motya in Sicily thought to serve as an artificial inner harbor, or perhaps a dry dock, for Phoenician mariners roughly 2,550 years ago is now known to have been the largest known sacred pool from the ancient Mediterranean world used to serve the pagan god, Baal. 

Located at the center of the Marsala Lagoon on the western coast of Sicily, Motya was the site of a flourishing settlement in the Bronze and Iron Ages. In the latest edition of the journal Antiquity, archaeologist Lorenzo Nigro, affiliated with the Italian Institute for Oriental Studies at Sapienza University in Rome, reported that the artificial 172-foot by 121-foot lake is slightly larger than an Olympic-sized pool, was the centerpiece for idolatry.  The freshwater pool fed by three subterranean springs stands at the center of a  circular sanctuary hosting three prominent temples dating to 550–397 BCE. The pool was added around 550 BC when the city was rebuilt after an attack by Carthage, Rome’s ancient rival. The three temples, the rectangular basin, and various other stone monuments and symbolic installations at the site were all enclosed inside a circular stone wall that was 10 feet high and 390 feet in diameter. 

It is believed a statue of Baal stood nearby.  The calm waters served as a surface for observing and mapping the movement of stars, as emphasized by the alignment of structures and features positioned around the sacred enclosure. 

The Phoenicians regarded the stars and constellations as gods and sacred ancestors. Foremost of these was Ba’al, represented by the constellation Orion.

Mentioned more than 90 times in the Bible, most notably when Elijah defeated the priests of Ba’al, also known as Moloch, in a contest to bring down fire from heaven to burn a sacrifice, Ba’al became the archetypical form of idol worship. Israel has struggled to remain neutral, maintaining relations with Ukraine and Russia, a position that has allowed the Israeli Prime Minister to act as a mediator. But the Aliyah Law of Return establishing Israel as the homeland and refuge of the Jewish people while carrying out the prophesied ingathering of the exiles has proved problematic, garnering criticism from the US.

RIGHT OF RETURN
The prophecy of Jews returning to their homeland was prophesied by both Isaiah and Jeremiah and is a right granted by the State of Israel to Jews worldwide.

UKRAINIAN REFUGEES
On Sunday, The Population, Immigration, and Border Authority said Sunday that 7,179 people have arrived from Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion on February 24, of whom 221 were refused entry. Approximately 5,000 of the Ukrainian refugees do not have Jewish ancestry and don’t have the right to immigrate under the Aliyah Law of Return.

Last week, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked said that Israel would allow approximately 20,000 Ukrainians who were on tourist visas or in the country illegally before the Russian invasion to remain in the country. She added that Israel would also grant visas to a further 5,000 non-Jewish refugees seeking to escape the war, meaning that this limit has already been met.

These visas would allow the refugees to remain in the country without fear of deportation but would not allow them to work legally, send their children to school, or get access to Israel’s health care.

A report in Times of Israel claimed that many of the non-Jewish refugees have family members who are Israeli citizens or otherwise are in the country but nonetheless do not qualify for citizenship under the Law of Return. Many of the refugees are staying with friends or family in Israel. Two hotels in Tel Aviv are also being used to house refugees.

Approximately 2,000 Ukrainians with Jewish ancestry or Jewish spouses arrived and are eligible for citizenship under the Law of Return.

RUSSIAN OLIGARCHS
But among the new olim are several dozen non-refugee Russian oligarchs who received Israeli citizenship over the past several years under the  Law of Return. A recent story in the Washington Post claimed like most uber-wealthy, these oligarchs necessarily have warm relations with the Russian government and even the president, Vladimir Putin. The list includes Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich, Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven, and Viktor Vekselberg, all of whom have been targeted by international sanctions against Russia. Israel has pointedly not joined in these sanctions. Israel is also a haven for Russian Jewish magnates like Leonid Nevzlin seeking refuge from Putin’s ire.  Israeli media have reported private jets belonging to oligarchs coming in and out of the country in recent days. Channel 12 reported Friday that in the last 10 days, 14 private jets that took off from St. Petersburg landed at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport

BIDEN ADMINISTRATION OBJECTS
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 12 TV station over the weekend, the U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs, Victoria Nuland, called on Israel to join the group of countries that have sanctioned Russia.

WAFA News reported on Saturday that Mahmoud al-Habbash, the Palestinian Authority’s top Islamic judge and presidential adviser on religious affairs, called on all Palestinians to protect the Temple Mount against “Temple groups” who  he claims plan on “storming the Aqsa Mosque” on Thursday, the Jewish holiday of Purim. 

Al-Habbash warned that “terrorist groups and settler gangs are taking advantage of Jewish religious occasions to storm the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and try to impose a fait accompli as part of the Judaization schemes that target the Holy City in general and the Temple Mount in particular.”

“It is purely Islamic, and non-Muslims have no right to it, as stated in the Noble Qur’an and confirmed by international laws and UNESCO resolution,” a-Habbash said.

He called on Palestinian leaders “to send a clear message to the world that violating Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa is a violation of the faith of more than a billion and a half Muslims in all parts of the earth, and that the occupation seeks to ignite a religious war that will burn the whole world with its fire, and no one on the face of the earth will be spared from it or its consequence.”

It should be noted that the Muslim month of Ramadan begins on April 2, less than three weeks. The period of Ramadan is frequently a time of increased Islamic violence.

Sheikh Hussein claimed that Jews visiting the holy site will try to bring whistles and costumes into the mosque during the holiday, “in addition to singing, dancing and celebrating at its gates.” 

“Harming the sanctity of al-Aqsa Mosque is a heinous crime, which is  part of efforts to impose a new fait accompli there,” he added.

PA Minister of Religious Affairs Hatem al-Bakri issued a similar warning.

“The escalating and dangerous Israeli plans against Jerusalem, represented by ongoing attempts to interfere in the affairs of the Haram al-Sharif [Noble Sanctuary], intensive excavations under al-Aqsa Mosque, settlement projects and the daily incursions, are nothing but an attempt to change the status quo,” he said.

“The continuation of these crimes and provocative calls [by Jews to visit the Temple Mount] obliges the world to stand up to its responsibilities and to seriously intervene to put an end to these violations,” Bakri said. 

Assaf Fried, the spokesman for the Temple Organization, suggested that the threats may have been the product of a misunderstanding.

“There was an announcement last week for the Temple Mount Yeshiva to have a special event on the Temple Mount last Thursday with several important rabbis,” Fried said. “It seems that the Palestinians did not understand and they think there will be something on this Thursday.”

“There are plans for Jews to ascend to the Temple Mount on Purim but it is not expected to be anything exceptional,” Fried said. “Only Jerusalem people who aren’t having parties will go to the Temple Mount. And there certainly weren’t any calls to conquer the Temple Mount.”

“We already conquered the Temple Mount in 1967,” Fried said. “It seems the Arabs have not understood that yet. Even though they refer to Israel as the ‘occupation’, they still say that we want to conquer the Temple Mount. You can’t have it both ways. Either we are the occupation who conquered the Temple Mount or we are not the occupiers and we still need to conquer the city. There really is no need to conquer it again. That would just be redundant.”

Two officers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps were killed in a Monday airstrike reportedly conducted by Israel in the Damascus area, Iranian media have said.

According to a report by Ynet, Iranian sources issued a threat saying that “there is no doubt that Israel will pay the price for this crime.”

The report cited the Tasnim Iranian news agency, which is close to the IRGC, as naming the two operatives, though their roles were not detailed.

On Monday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said that a reprisal by Damascus to apparent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian-linked targets in his country could occur at any time, Kan News reported on Monday.

“We can respond any day; we will not forget,” Mekdad told the Lebanese pro-Hezbollah Al-Mayadeen television channel.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the explosions that occurred in Damascus and other areas at 5 a.m. occurred when “Israeli missiles fired from the occupied Syrian Golan [Heights]” struck “posts and weapons warehouses of Iran-backed militias in the vicinity of Damascus international airport.”

Israel will host some 25,000 Ukrainian citizens until the danger in their home country passes, Israeli Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked said on Tuesday.

Under the plan, Israel will grant the approximately 20,000 Ukrainians already in the country, most illegally, temporary protection from repatriation, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. In addition, Israel will take in another 5,000 Ukrainian refugees.

“Initially, they will be given a temporary visa for three months. Should the fighting continue beyond this time, all those present in Israel will be allowed to work,” the statement said.

All Ukrainians are eligible and can apply through the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Applicants will be subject to a short background check.

Israeli citizens will also be able to apply to invite Ukrainian citizens, up to one nuclear family per applicant, according to the statement.

In addition, Israel expects to absorb some 100,000 Ukrainian refugees in the coming weeks and months within the framework of the country’s Law of Return, said Shaked.

“Ukrainians fleeing the war, both those who have a Jewish background and their family, will be able to come to Israel and receive full citizenship. Therefore, Israel is expected to be one of the world’s leading countries of destination and refuge for Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war, both in absolute numbers and certainly based on the country’s size,” the statement said.

In response to the announcement, Diaspora Affairs Minister Nachman Shai sent a letter to Cabinet Secretary Shalom Shlomo and asked that the issue of Israel’s refugee absorption policy be raised at the next cabinet meeting on Sunday.

“On the Polish-Ukrainian border I saw with my own eyes the endless stream of refugees leaving Ukraine,” Shai wrote. “It is a human tragedy of unimaginable proportions. Hundreds of thousands of families have fled. This is a humanitarian crisis of historic proportions. Israel must stand on the right side of history, and give these refugees shelter. A people whose history has included many years of being refugees is not now permitted to shut its eyes in the face of this current refugee crisis.”

The theory that US-run bio labs in Ukraine were developing COVID-related diseases as part of a plan by Dr. Anthony Fauci to release a new pandemic on the world was debunked by the mainstream media as “QAnon conspiracy theories” and “Russian disinformation.” But testimony by a US government official in front of Congress has revealed that at least part of this “conspiracy theory” is, in fact, true.

AN ADMISSION OF GUILT
On Tuesday, the US government admitted to running the labs when the Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland testified before a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Ukraine in Washington, DC, and said that the United States was working with Ukraine to prevent invading Russian forces from seizing biological research material. 

“Ukraine has biological research facilities, which we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to gain control of,” she stated to the US lawmakers on March 8. “We are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach,” 

ACCUSATIONS OF BIOLOGICAL WARFARE BEFORE IT OCCURS
Despite the admission that the US was running the labs in Ukraine, Sen. Marco Rubio asked Nuland if the Russians would more probably be responsible should a biological or chemical weapon attack occur inside Ukraine. Nuland responded, “There is no doubt in my mind, Senator.” 

Western media had labeled this claim made by Russia and China as Russian disinformation. Politifact and Snopes fact-checkers labeled the claim as false, stating, “There are no U.S.-run biological weapons labs operating in Ukraine.” Twitter suspended accounts for posting this claim. Politifact went further, citing an “expert” as claiming that this was part of a long-running disinformation program of “spreading the false claim that the U.S. has Biolabs along each of their borders, insinuating that America is responsible for unleashing COVID-19.”

CURES, NOT DISEASES
“While the U.S. may provide funding to upgrade or build labs in other countries, the labs are run by the partnering nations, and the program’s goal is to prevent biological threats, not create them,” Politifact concluded. “We rate this claim False.”

USA Today fact-checkers also labeled it as ‘false,’ citing Politifact as an “independent fact-checking source.”

The prestigious Foreign Policy site described it as a “discredited QAnon conspiracy theory.” The article called for the claim of US bio labs in Ukraine to be removed from the internet by “regulated social media networks” as it appeared on “unregulated platforms such as Telegram and 8Chan.”  According to Foreign Policy, the theory of labs in Ukraine was based on Russia’s intention to “destroy bioweapon-manufacturing labs to prevent the American infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci from creating a sequel to the COVID-19 virus.”

PATHOGENS AND TOXINS OF SECURITY CONCERN
It should be noted that the website of the US Embassy in Ukraine describes the “Biological Threat Reduction Program” run by the Department of Defense in conjunction with the Ukrainian Department of Defense. The program runs an unspecified number of laboratories to handle “pathogens and toxins of security concern.”

The website stated that the lab in Ukraine was involved in “Risk Assessment of Selected Avian EDPs Potentially Carried by Migratory Birds over Ukraine.” Coronavirus and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) are avian viruses. The lab also researched the Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, closely associated with COVID-19.

Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that there was “evidence of a US-financed military biological program developed in Ukraine.” Moscow said the lab was “revealed during Russia’s special operation in that country.”

Israel’s defense minister said on Monday that the time to act on Iran was now, before the ayatollahs’ regime was protected by a “nuclear canopy.”

“The world must mobilize to stop Iranian aggression,” said Benny Gantz in a post on social media, a day after Israel announced that the Israel Defense Forces had intercepted Iranian drones en route from Iran to Gaza last year.

Whether or not a new nuclear agreement is signed in Vienna between Iran and world powers, said Gantz, “it will not be the end of the road for us—nor should it be for the countries of the region and the world, which must continue to act against Iranian aggression.”

The State of Israel and its defense establishment would take all necessary measures, “political, economic and if needed, also military,” in order to defend our sovereignty and ensure the security of the citizens of Israel.”

Iran’s aggression, said Gantz, “whether it emanates from Iranian territory or through Iranian proxies, is a threat to global peace and to regional stability, as well as a threat to the State of Israel.”

It is now, while a nuclear agreement is being negotiated in Vienna, he continued, that we must remember: “If Iran reaches the nuclear threshold, it will become even more dangerous to world peace. Now is the time for the world to mobilize to stop it. As I have said in the past, the State of Israel will take all the measures necessary to prevent Iran from becoming an existential threat.”

Could a Purim Iran deal turn the world around? Upon looking at the recent developments of the soon-to-be signed Iran Nuclear deal, a Purim-like miracle could occur with modern-day Persia and their plot to annihilate the nation of Israel.

FIVE PERMANENT MEMBER NATIONS
In the bizarre reality of international politics, Russia is acting as a major party in the ongoing negotiations in Vienna by the Biden administration focused on reviving the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) known as the Iran nuclear deal. The P5+1 signed the agreement, that is, the five permanent member nations of the UN Security Council (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) plus Germany.

President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the JCPOA in 2018.

AN AVALANCHE OF AGGRESSIVE SANCTIONS
After 11 months of negotiations that seemed to be leading to a resolution, Russia created an impasse on Saturday when Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov interjected, saying that the Western sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine had become a stumbling block for the nuclear deal. Lavrov cited the “avalanche of aggressive sanctions that the West has started spewing out, which hasn’t ended as far as I understand,” over the Ukraine conflict.

“We requested that our US colleagues… give us written guarantees at the minimum level of Secretary of State that the current [sanctions] process launched by the US will not in any way harm our right to free, fully-fledged trade and economic and investment cooperation and military-technical cooperation with Iran,” Lavrov said at a news conference.

A POWERFUL TOOL SERVING BOTH COUNTRIES
Both Iran and Russia are significant oil producers, and cooperation will undoubtedly be a powerful tool serving both countries. Conversely, western nations, including the US, are interested in removing sanctions against Iran to replace Russian oil sources that are proscribed due to sanctions against Russia. A successful deal would bring significant volumes of Iranian oil back to global energy markets in the months ahead.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken disagreed, attempting to keep the war in Ukraine separate from the Iran deal.

A RUSSIAN-AMERICAN INTEREST
“These things are totally different and just are not, in any way, linked together. So I think that’s irrelevant,” Blinken said in an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation” show. Blinken added that it was not only in America’s interest but Russia’s as well that Iran not be able “to have a nuclear weapon or the capacity to produce a weapon on very, very short order.”

Iran followed Russia’s lead, telling the US negotiators that they consulted with the Russian government. Russia wanted a written U.S. guarantee that Russia’s trade, investment, and military-technical cooperation with Iran would not be hindered in any way by the sanctions.



WHAT MOSCOW WANTS
“It is necessary to understand clearly what Moscow wants. If what they demand is related to the JCPOA, it would not be difficult to find a solution for it,” said an Iranian official. “But it will be complicated if the guarantees that Moscow has demanded are beyond the JCPOA.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has made public calls for closer ties with Russia. Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine was preceded by a visit from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Vladimir Putin in Moscow, the first of its type in five years.

Russia is a significant trade partner for Iran, especially regarding Iran’s excess oil reserves. Iran is the only country in Western Asia invited to join the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Russia’s international treaty organization, in response to NATO. While much of the Iranian military uses Iranian-manufactured weapons and domestic hardware, Iran still purchases some weapons systems from Russia. In turn, Iran has helped Russia with its drone technology and other military technology. Also, due to the regional aspirations of Turkey, a NATO partner, Iran is strengthening its ties with China.

PURIM COMING UP
Rabbi Hillel Weiss, the former spokesman for the Sanhedrin, noted that negotiations for the Iran deal have been in the works for quite some time. Before the invasion of Ukraine, diplomats had announced that it was about to be signed. Nonetheless, it was not signed, and the holiday of Purim is around the corner (March 16-17).

“It is not by chance that after all this time, the signing, or rejection, of the Iran deal is going to happen on Purim,” Rabbi Weiss said. 

The rabbi then referred to a verse from the Book of Esther:

And so, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month—that is, the month of Adar—when the king’s command and decree were to be executed, the very day on which the enemies of the Yehudim had expected to get them in their power, the opposite happened, and the Yehudim got their enemies in their power. Esther 9:1

The reference to “the opposite happened” is understood to be a central theme of the holiday. The day that Haman established as the destruction of the Jews turned out to be a day of celebration and salvation.

Rabbi Yekutiel Fish, a prominent Jerusalem mystic, stated unequivocally that the current war in Ukraine is the precursor to the pre-Messiah War of Gog and Magog. The rabbi citedthe Midrash in Bereishis Rabbah (לך לך מ”ב, ד) which states:

Rabbi Elazar bar Avinah said, ‘If you see kingdoms taunting each other, you can anticipate the footsteps of the Messiah.” The Midrash bases this on the age of Abraham in which kings were battling each other which culminated in Abraham’s “redemption”.

“In the end of days, the nations that hate Israel will be poised to fight each other,” Rabbi Fish explained. “This is certainly the case with Russia and Ukraine, both of which have a long history of hating Jews. But the nations that hate Israel will realize that fighting among themselves will, in the end, be good for Israel. So they will get together to settle their differences so they will not fight each other but will, instead continue to kill the Jews, as they have always done. But this will not succeed. This will, of course, be due to God intervening and preventing them from harming Israel.”

“Choosing between Russia and Ukraine is difficult,” Rabbi Fish said. “Both have a long history of oppressing Jews. But in this specific case, Russia is the aggressor, transgressing the Biblical prohibition against murder. Of course, God directs the events and whether or not there will be war. But man chooses how he fits into that plan.”

“I don’t think we are in the first stages of Gog and Magog,” Rabbi Fish said. “I KNOW  we are in the first stages of Gog and Magog. But Gog and Magog will be focused on Jerusalem. World War Three will precede Gog and Magog and this is what we are seeing right now, just as WWI and WWII were parts of Gog and Magog.”
