Israel News for February 6, 2024
NEWS UPDATE

Rocket fire from Lebanon continues. Two IDF soldiers were injured in an attack. The IDF is responding with strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

[Clearly, this situation cannot continue, with constant attacks by Hezbollah making it impossible for 100,000 Israelis to return to their homes in the north. There is a slight chance that Hezbollah will voluntarily agree to withdraw at least several miles from the border and cease hostilities. There is a US sponsored proposal proposal to attempt to achieve that outcome. Israel is open to a diplomatic solution.

But the more likely scenario is that Hezbollah continues their attacks and that Israel is forced to mount a major offensive into Lebanon to materially degrade their military capabilities and to push them back to a manageable distance from the border. Hezbollah would undoubtedly use their massive arsenal of tens of thousands of sophisticated missiles against Israeli population centers, overwhelming Israel’s missile defense systems. The IDF would eventually neutralize Hezbollah’s attack capabilities, but probably not before significant damage and casualties were inflicted on Israeli civilians and soldiers.]

The fighting in Gaza continues with Israeli forces making major headway in Khan Yunis and advancing towards Rafah, the final city and Hamas stronghold left in Gaza. The IDF has killed over half of Hamas’s fighting force. [That means thousands of terrorists still remain. Many of them are in the extensive tunnel system beneath Rafah. Some of the tunnels probably lead to Egypt, just across the border, and have been the conduit for weapons entering Gaza for years. Rafah must be cleaned of Hamas in order for this war to end.]

For a complete list of the soldiers killed in the ground offensive, click here.

A terrorist shot at an IDF post near Nablus. The terrorist was shot and neutralized by soldiers.

Terrorists fired at a house in Kibbutz Meirav in the Gilboa region, from a nearby village located in northern Samaria. No one was hurt.

The defense establishment is in favor of a plan that would allow powerful family clans to administer Gaza after the war. Each clan would handle humanitarian aid and resources for their local regions. The clan plan would be temporary, until a permanent governing solution could be found. For more, click here.

At least 73 people were killed and 170 injured today in the Iranian city of Kerman after twin blasts near the burial site of slain military commander Qasem Soleimani. As part of the plan, thousands of troops will be positioned in the areas to protect civilians once they return. The plan would also include building a wall along the entire length of the Lebanon border with Israel (80 miles). The construction and ongoing military presence, which would include reserve battalions called up for longer periods of time, will cost the country tens of billions of shekels.

Israel is currently allowing diplomatic efforts by the US and France to remove Hezbollah forces from the border area and prevent a full scale war. If diplomatic efforts fail, Israel would be forced to clear Hezbollah out of the border area with a combined air and ground offensive, while it is still fighting the war in Gaza.

The IDF will begin withdrawing, at least temporarily, several thousand troops from Gaza. Reservists from at least two brigades will be sent home this week and three brigades will be sent back for training. Fighting in Gaza remains intense, and the IDF does not intend to let up it's efforts at destroying Hamas. The IDF spokesman said, “The goals of the war require prolonged fighting and we are preparing accordingly.”

The NYTimes is reporting that the Pentagon has prepared detailed plans to attack Houthi bases in Yemen. Yesterday, US navy helicopters destroyed 3 Houthi boats that attacked them. Some Pentagon officials are reluctant to attack Houthi bases because they claim that it will play into the hands of Iran, who wants to stir the conflict. The aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford will be leaving the region.

Israel's population grew by 1.9% over the past year to 9.842 million, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. 7.208 million (73.2%) of Israel's citizens are Jewish, 2.080 million (21.1%) Arabs and 554,000 (5.7%) others including Russian-speaking immigrants who are not Jewish.

As part of its investigative reporting series on the Hamas war, the NYTimes published an article yesterday on the failure of the IDF to properly prepare for, and react to, the terrorist invasion and massacre of Oct. 7. To read the article, click here.

There is no question that the IDF failed in its mission to protect the civilians of Israel and the IDF has accepted blame for it. Hamas succeeded in fooling Israel. But they did not expect the fierce and relentless reaction of the nation of Israel, who has risen up in righteous fury to defend its existence and avenge the slaughter and desecration of its children. The Hamas terrorist army is now hiding in their tunnels deep under the schools and hospitals of Gaza. If Israel stops now, Hamas will emerge victories and ready to repeat Oct. 7 as often as they can. That's why the war must continue until Hamas is either totally eliminated or degraded to the extent that they will never again be able to carry out a terror attack of any significant size.

Wishing all a happy, peaceful and successful 2024!

Yesterday, at least 30 missiles were fired at Kiryat Shmona by Hezbollah. A store and home were hit. Injuries were reported. Several missiles were intercepted. In total, 150 missiles were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel yesterday. Earlier today, an enemy drone was intercepted over Haifa. The IDF responded with airstrikes against targets in southern Lebanon.

IDF soldiers killed in Gaza yesterday:

1. Reserve Sergeant First Class. Asaf Pinchas Tubol, 22, 77th Battalion, Saar MeGolan Brigade (7), from Kiryat Motzkin.

2. Reserve Captain Nirya Zisk, 24 , a tank commander in the 52nd Battalion, Iron Tracks Brigade (401), from Mashuot Yitzhak.

3. Major. Dvir David Fima, 32, deputy commander of the 198th Battalion, Bnei-Or Brigade (460), from Kfar Yona.

Security forces raided moneychangers throughout the West Bank today, arresting 20 suspects and confiscating over 10 million shekels. The moneychangers are accused of funding Hamas and the PIJ. For more, click here.

According to an investigative report by Israel's Channel 12, the Shin Bet received information from a human intelligence source two months before the Hamas massacre, warning that the terror group was planning something big for the week following Yom Kippur. The information was deemed unreliable. Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar has said publicly that he was responsible for his organization's failures.

[Last week the NYTimes published a story about the Hamas massacre in Kibbutz Be'eri on Oct. 7. Read it here. One of the videos included in the article, taken by a security camera of the front gate to the kibbutz, shows Palestinian civilians entering the kibbutz along with the armed terrorists. Included in these civilian terrorists was an elderly man with a white beard, wearing traditional Muslim garb, on crutches.

What was he doing there? And what were the hundreds of other civilians, including women and children, doing in Israel on that day?

Simple. They came to loot, rape, pillage and murder their Israeli neighbors. Some probably just came to watch and rejoice in their barbaric victory. When they returned with their TV's, tractors, household goods, personal valuables, hostages, and the blood of their victims, they joined thousands of other Gaza civilians in celebration and praise of Hamas and their glorious, bloodthirsty Jihad.

Let's not be fooled. The brutal and barbaric attack against Israel was not perpetrated just by official, card carrying terrorists of Hamas. It was a joint operation between Hamas and its civilian army of supporters. Gaza -- Hamas terrorists, civilian terrorists, old men on crutches, mothers and children -- attacked Israel with the intent of murdering, torturing, raping and desecrating every Jew living there. Now they are paying the price.]

The Times of Israel has created a repository of the stories of some of those who were killed in the Oct. 7 massacre. To read them, click here.

Israel News for December 29, 2023
IDF forces have been striking strategic Hezbollah targets throughout southern Lebanon, causing considerable damage to Hezbollah’s infrastructure. This represents an escalation in the scale of the IDF operations against Hezbollah and could indicate the coming of a larger scale operation. Meanwhile, Hezbollah continues to fire rockets and attack drones into northern Israel.

A terrorist rammed his car into people near the Adorayim Junction, north of the settlement of Otniel, wounding 4 people in the 20’s. The terrorist was shot and killed by soldiers. Yesterday, a 24 yr. old terrorist stabbed and wounded a female Border Police officer and a male security guard, both in their 20’s, at a checkpoint between Jerusalem and Gush Etzion. The terrorist was shot and killed by security forces.

Cpt. (res.) Harel Sharvit, 33, 551st Brigade’s 7008th Battalion, from Kochav Yaakov, was killed in Gaza yesterday.

The IDF has concluded its investigation into the accidental shooting by soldiers of the 3 hostages that escaped and were carrying a white flag in Gaza. No action will be taken against the soldiers. To read more about the investigation results, click here.

Syrian sources reported an Israeli air strike against Damascus International Airport on Thursday, in which at least 2 Syrian soldiers were wounded. Saudi media reported today that 11 leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps were killed. Iran is using the airport to transport sophisticated weapons to Hezbollah.

Turkish authorities arrested 32 people described as ISIS operatives, for allegedly planning attacks on synagogues, churches and the Iraqi embassy ahead of the new year.

American Israeli hostage Judy Weinstein, 70, was confirmed dead yesterday. She died of wounds inflicted by Hamas on Oct. 7. Her husband, Gadi Haggai, 72, was killed on Oct. 7. Both of their bodies are being held by Hamas in Gaza. US President Biden expressed his deep sorrow at the news and pledged to continue working to release the remaining hostages.

Prime Minister Netanyahu told representatives of the families of the hostages yesterday that there is progress in negotiations for a deal.

In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece, Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called on the US and Israel to directly take on Iran for its role in directing and supporting Hamas and Hezbollah terror. He also revealed, for the first time, Israel’s role in direct attacks on Iran saying, “As prime minister, I made another decision regarding Iran. I directed Israel’s security forces to make Tehran pay for its decision to sponsor terror. Enough impunity. After Iran launched two failed UAV attacks on Israel in February 2022, Israel destroyed a UAV base on Iranian soil. In March 2022, Iran’s terror unit attempted to kill Israeli tourists in Turkey and failed. Shortly thereafter, the commander of that very unit was assassinated in the center of Tehran.”
As part of its investigation into the Oct. 7 massacre, the NYTimes has revealed and documented the brutal and barbaric rapes and sexual violence committed against Israeli women and girls at the music festival and in the kibbutzim overrun by Hamas and civilians from Gaza. The horrors and pure evil perpetrated against young women and children is beyond even the most twisted imagination. I won’t even attempt to put words to it. All I can say is that when you read the accounts, you will understand why Israel must continue the war against Hamas until it is completely destroyed. To read the article, click here. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/28/world/middleeast/oct-7-attacks-hamas-israel-sexual-violence.html

A large rocket barrage of at least 20 rockets was fired at northern Israel today, damaging a cattle farm. IDF struck Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in response.

The UK based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that Israel attacked targets 32 kilometers (20 miles) north of the Lebanon-Israel border for the first time since the war began and was firing at any vehicle traveling near the border in an area it seeks to see secure and free of Hezbollah forces.

The IDF has demolished the primary Hamas command tunnel in Gaza City.

IDF soldiers killed in Gaza:

Sergeant First Class (res.) Tal Shua, 31, Combat Engineering Corps’ 7071st Battalion, from Be’er Sheva.

Lieutenant Shai Ayeli, 21, an officer in the Special Tactics Rescue Unit 669, from Ashkelon.

A terrorist attempted to ram security forces at a checkpoint in the West Bank today. A female Border Police officer was lightly wounded. The terrorist was shot and lightly wounded.

The U.S. Pentagon announced today that over 20 countries have joined its multinational naval alliance aimed at deterring terrorist activity in the Red Sea area.

The Israeli shekel continues to gain strength against the US dollar and Euro. The shekel is now 3.6 per dollar.

In the first 11 months of 2023, 44,372 immigrants reached Israel, significantly down from 74,714 in all of 2022, when Russia's invasion of Ukraine cause a large wave of immigration. Of the immigrants in 2023, 36,000 came from countries of the former Soviet Union, 2,495 immigrants from the US and Canada, 1,780 from Ethiopia, 1,125 immigrants from Latin America and 945 from France.

Today is the fast day of the 10th of Tevet (Asara B'tevet), which commemorates the day that the Babylonians laid siege to Jerusalem and began the attack that would culminate in the destruction of the first Temple 7 months later. To read more about this day in Judaism, click here.

As we battle our modern day enemies who seek to destroy us once again, let us use this day of fasting and reflection to pray for our total victory and for the safe return of all of our hostages and soldiers to their families. There is no doubt in my mind that, with God's help, good will triumph over evil.

A large barrage of rockets was fired at central Israel today. Rocket fragments and shrapnel fell in Petach Tikva, Ramat Gan, Herzliya, Kiryat Ono, Givatayim, Bnei Brak, Ra'anana and next to Bar Ilan University. Shrapnel also fell on a school in Tel Aviv, but no students were hurt.

A large rocket barrage was also fired at Ashkelon and Ashdod in the south.

Rockets and anti-tank missiles were fired at Kiryat Shemonah and other areas of northern Israel from Lebanon. A rocket hit gas cylinders near a building in Kiryat Shemonah, damaging the building and a parked car. The IDF strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. All schools near the border have been closed and students evacuated.

IDF soldiers killed in Gaza:

Sergeant Lavi Gihassi, 19, from Hashmonaim, served in Battalion 931 of the Nahal Brigade.

Lieutenant Yaakov Elian, 20, from Ramat Gan, a cadet in officer training school's Gefen Battalion.

Lieutenant Omri Schwartz, 21, from Shdemot Devorah, a cadet in officer training school's Gefen Battalion.

Eight other soldiers were seriously wounded in the same battles.

Hamas released a statement saying, "There is a Palestinian national decision that there should be no talk about prisoners or exchange deals except after a full cessation of aggression." Israel had reportedly offered a 7 day truce in exchange for more hostages.

To read some of the words of 17 year old Agam Goldstein-Almog, who was released from captivity with her mother and 2 young siblings, click here.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during a press briefing, "many countries are calling for an end to this conflict, which we all want, but I don't hear most of them demanding that Hamas stop hiding behind civilians and lay down its weapons." He added, "If Hamas does this - the war will end tomorrow. It could have ended already a month ago if Hamas did this. How can it be that there are no demands of the attacker, but only demands of the victim."

Mossad Chief David Barnea is scheduled to meet with CIA Chief William Burns and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Poland today to discuss a possible deal to release hostages held by terrorists in Gaza. This comes in the wake of the tragic accidental killing of 3 hostages who managed to escape and were trying to reach Israeli troops. The soldiers who shot them acted against IDF rules of engagement. The incident is being investigated.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Genera Charles Brown are in Israel today to discuss the war with defense ministry leaders. Austin will meet with the full cabinet afterwards.

IDF soldiers killed in Gaza:

Master Sgt. (res.) Elisha Loewenstern, 38, 179th Reserve Armored Brigade's 8104th Battalion, from Harish.

Staff Sergeant Boris Dunavetski, 21, 401st Brigade’s 46th Armored Battalion, .

Sergeant-Major Urija Bayer, 20, Maglan Unit, from Ma'alot Tarshiha.

Staff-Sergeant-Major Etan Naeh, 26, Duvdevan Unit, from Sde Eliyahu.

Sergeant-Major Liav Alous, 21, Duvdevan Unit, from Gedera.

Rockets were fired from Lebanon today and throughout the weekend. The IDF is responding with airstrikes and other means.

Syrian media reported Israeli strikes in 2 locations near Damascus, wounding 2 Syrian soldiers and causing material damage.

A terrorist stabbed a 49 year old IDF reservist at a gas station near the Ranthis checkpoint in Samaria yesterday. Troops later captured the terrorist. The soldier was moderately wounded and was evacuated to hospital for treatment. Earlier today, terrorist shot at 2 vehicles at the entrance to the settlement of Ateret near Ramallah. A 27 year old woman was hit in the shoulder. The terrorists fled to Ramallah.

A group of Israeli hackers called Predatory Sparrow claimed responsibility for disabling 70% of Iran's gas stations today. The leader of the group wrote, "Today we shut down most of the gas stations in Iran in response to Iranian aggression in the region. Khamenei, know that playing with fire has a price. A month ago we warned you that we would make you pay for your provocations. This is just a taste of what's to come that we are able to do. As in our previous operations, this attack was carried out in a controlled manner that prevented damage to emergency services. Before the attack, we sent a warning to the emergency services in Iran and made sure not to damage some of the gas stations in the country, even though we had the ability to disable them completely."

Dozens of terrorists were killed and tunnel shafts discovered and destroyed. In 1 of the tunnels, troops found motorbikes used by the terrorists on Oct. 7. To view an IDF video of combat in Gaza, click here.

IDF soldiers killed in southern Gaza in the last day:

Let us not forget the young women and children, the elderly and the wounded still being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, where they are being starved, beaten, sexually assaulted and terrorized. There can be no cease-fire until Hamas releases every one of them.

Several missiles were fired at IDF posts near the Lebanon border this morning. IDF planes, tanks and artillery are striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including a command center. Israel apologized for the deaths of 4 Lebanese Army soldiers in the strikes saying that they are not the targets of Israel's actions.

The Arrow Missile Defense system intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen towards Eilat, over the Red Sea today.

The IDF eliminated the senior commanders of the Northern Gaza brigade including the brigade commander, Ahmed Al-Ghandoor, the deputy brigade commander, Wael Rajab, the commander of the Beit Lahiya Battalion, the Commander of the Central Jabalya Battalion and other senior officers.

The IDF eliminated the top commanders of the Gaza City Brigade, the largest Hamas brigade, including the commander of the Tsabra Battalion, the commander of the Shati Battalion, the commander of the Darj Tapah Battalion, the commander of the Shejaiya Battalion and other senior commanders.

Troops located one of the largest stockpiles of weapons in Gaza, located near a clinic and school. The stockpile contained hundreds of rockets and RPG launchers, long-range rockets aimed at central Israel, drones, ready-to-use explosive devices, anti-tank missiles and grenades.

The IDF released the names of the following soldiers killed in Gaza:

Capt. Yahal Gazit, 24, from the yishuv of Rakefet
Major (res.) Gil Daniels, 34,from Ashdod
Master Sergeant (res.) Matan Demari, 31 years old, from Dimona
Master Sergeant (res.) Ili Eliyahu Cohen, 23 years old, from Beit Nehemiah
Master Sergeant (res.) Yehonatan Malka, 23, from Be'er Sheva.

Security forces arrested 10 terrorists in an overnight operation in Jenin, and located weapons, three bomb laboratories filled with explosives, two underground tunnel shafts, military equipment and ammunition. Several terrorists were wounded in a gunfight after opening fire on troops.

Doctors who examined the released Israeli hostages determined that at least 10 of them, both men and women, were sexually assaulted or abused while in captivity. A group of released hostages that met with the War Cabinet also spoke of the sexual abuse in captivity. For more, click here.

This morning, civilians in Gaza stormed a UNRWA warehouse containing tons of undistributed food and supplies.

The US House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a resolution stating that anti-Zionism is antisemitism, 311 to 14.

Early this morning, 2 terrorists armed with an M-16 rifle and a pistol opened fire on people at a bus stop at the entrance to Jerusalem. Three civilians were killed and at least 11 injured, 4 in serious condition. The terrorists, residents of east Jerusalem and affiliated with Hamas, were in their 30's and had both served time in prison for terrorist activities. They were shot and killed by 2 soldiers on leave and a civilian. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

The 3 murdered in today's terror attack were:

Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman, 70, who served as a judge in a rabbinical court in Ashdod

Chana Ifergan, 67, the principal of Bnot Hadassah in Beit Shemesh

Livia Dickman, 24, a resident of Har Nof.

Also this morning a terrorist rammed him vehicle into soldiers at a checkpoint near Moshav Beka'ot, in the Jordan Valley. Two soldiers on reserve duty were lightly injured. Troops shot and neutralized the terrorist.

Prime Minister Netanyahu met with US Secretary of State Blinken today in Jerusalem and reiterated Israel's commitment to continue the war against Hamas until victory.

Hamas is expected to release another 10 Israeli hostages today, including 2 Bedouin teens. Israel will release another 30 terrorists. Tomorrow is expected to be the final day of the truce. At that time, all of the women and children included in the current agreement will have been released.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said today, “There are numerous accounts of sexual violence during the abhorrent acts of terror by Hamas on 7 October that must be vigorously investigated and prosecuted. Gender-based violence must be condemned. Anytime. Anywhere.” His statement comes 2 months after the atrocities were committed and after Israel has presented large amounts of conclusive evidence, including video, of sexual crimes against Israeli women. For more, click here.

Yesterday, IDF forces killed 2 terrorists in Jenin, including the commander of the Jenin branch of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group.

IDF troops recently foiled an attempt to smuggle 137 guns into Israel from Jordan, in what police say is the largest-ever weapons bust on the Jordanian border.

Tens of thousands of Israelis were forced to evacuate their homes and communities in northern Israel because of the military activity and fighting going on along the border with Lebanon. Many are now in dire need of winter clothing and other supplies to get through what will apparantly be a prolonged period of time. To donate to an organization called Latet, that is providing these needed supplies to those in need, click here.

Another 10 hostages will be released today in exchange for another day of truce, 30 more terrorists and more aid. Hamas has said that it is willing to agree to another 4 days of truce. Hamas also said that it would release hostages with Russian citizenship, out of appreciation for Putin. 10 hostages were released yesterday. For their stories, click here. For a list of the hostages released thus far, click here.

[How people can watch terrorists push an old woman in a wheelchair, whom they held hostage for almost 2 months, and release her in front of cheering crowd -- and still demonstrate in support of those terrorists is just beyond my comprehension. The fact that Hamas is still holding a 10 month baby hostage doesn't bother them either.]

Hezbollah terrorists are reportedly returning to their positions near the Israeli border with Lebanon.

[This serves as a reminder that this war is nowhere near over. Iran is the puppet master that controls Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen and militias in Iraq and Syria. Their goal is to dominate the Middle East, and possibly beyond. Israel is just a small part of that plan, the lowest hanging fruit.

Iran's allies and partners are Russia and China. It's no coincidence that for last 2 months you haven't heard anything about Russia's continued war against Ukraine or China's continued harassment of Taiwan. Iran has been, thus far, using Hezbollah and its other proxies to poke at Israel and US forces in the region. When it decides the time is right, it will unleash those proxies in all out war. At that point, the US and its allies will be have to respond in force. While they're busy responding, China might take the opportunity to invade Taiwan and Russia might expand their land grab in Europe.

This war Israel is fighting against Hamas is just the tip of the iceberg in the bigger conflict between the West and Iran. The US understands that, which is why it sent 2 carrier battle groups to the region and why it is not wavering in supporting Israel. The UK, France, Germany and other free countries see the bigger picture too. But much of the world and public opinion doesn't, and Iran is well aware of that and is using it to their benefit.

There is no scenario in which Israel can go back to life as normal with Hamas and Hezbollah remaining in tact. Hezbollah has over 150,000 sophisticated missiles pointing at Israel. They also have a battle tested terrorist army far larger and better equipped and trained than Hamas. Would you be willing to live in northern or southern Israel knowing that hordes of terrorists planning to slaughter you and your family are just a mile or 2 away and ready to attack at any moment?

There cannot be a ceasefire until the terror threats in Gaza and the north are eliminated. Israel, and the free world, needs to stand strong against Iran and its terror proxies, and do what is needed to stop them now. Tomorrow might be too late.

What we all can do is spread the truth and not let the armies of terror win the hearts and minds of our fellow citizens or, in many cases, even our own children and family members.]

israel news
We are in the 4th day of the truce, awaiting the release of the final 11 Israeli hostages as part of the original agreement with Hamas to release 50 Israeli hostages. 39 Israeli hostages, all women and children, have already been released. Hamas has reportedly indicated that they will agree to Israel's offer to extend the truce an additional days for each additional 10 hostages released. For a list of the hostages released thus far, click here.

Israel has released 3 times as many female and minor terrorists from Israeli prisons, who returned to their homes to cheering crowds chanting Hamas slogans and praising Hamas for orchestrating the release of terrorist. The terrorists being released were all arrested for perpetrating or engaging in attacks upon Israeli security forces or civilians. Thankfully, they were stopped before being able to carry out their intended missions.

[This is not a prisoner exchange. Young children, mothers and grandmothers who witnessed the slaughter of their parents, spouses, relatives and friends were brutally kidnapped and held in hellish captivity in Gaza are being traded for young women and teenagers who willfully perpetrated acts of terror with the intention of murdering Israelis.

Hamas is gaining support as a result of their hostage taking. It gains support each time Palestinian terrorists are released by Israel. It gains support for every humanitarian aid, including fuel, truck that is allowed into Gaza as part of the hostage deal. And hundreds of trucks are now entering Gaza. And the Palestinians are cheering Hamas.

This is not a war between 2 armies. It is a war between the armed forces of a sovereign democratic country and a terrorist organization. It is comparable to the war the US and other democracies waged against ISIS and Al Qaeda. The only difference between Hamas and ISIS and Al Qaeda is that Hamas is targeting Israel and the Jewish People and disguises their terrorism and genocidal mission as a Palestinian freedom movement. The other difference between Hamas and the other terror groups is that millions of people throughout the free world are supported and demonstrate for them. Apparently, terrorism and brutality against Jews is ok, under the "right conditions", even in the warped minds of the intellectual giants of our greatest universities.

A cease-fire with a terrorist army committed to destroying you, that has publicly pledged to continue to repeat the atrocities they perpetrated on Oct. 7 is NOT an option. Hamas has proven that they are an existential threat to Israel. As long as Hamas is allowed to function in Gaza, Israelis will not be able to return to live in the south or, for that matter, feel safe anywhere in Israel. This is an untenable situation for a sovereign nation to exist in. No other nation would stand for it. Neither will Israel.

Hamas's plan was to gain the support of their subjects by slaughtering, raping and destroying to the greatest extent of their power, and then hold out against Israel's response until the peace loving nations of the world for Israel to stop. This is what they've successfully done repeatedly in the past, and have come out stronger each time. They expect this time to be no different. This time they have scores of hostages to use to buy more time and more support. They know that time is on their side. The more time that passes and the longer the truce lasts, the greater the pressure will be to force Israel to stop.

President Biden has shown very strong support for Israel and for the continuation of Israel's ground war to annihilate Hamas. But many members of Congress and his administration are either in favor of a cease-fire or are beginning to waiver in that direction. He is losing support in his party and voting base in an election year. How long will his unwavering support remain firm in the face of the immense pressure against him?

The only way Israel can continue as a sovereign nation is to destroy Hamas and make the south safe. The IDF has the power and ability to do that. The only question is whether it has the time to get the job done. And that time is dictated by world public opinion, and specifically public opinion in the US. The battle for public opinion today is being fought in the media and on social media.

We all have the responsibility and opportunity to fight the battle of public opinion to assure that Israel has the time it needs to defend its citizens and its existence as a sovereign state.

Israel has agreed to a 2 day extension of the truce in exchange for an additional 20 hostages. The 50 hostages in the original agreement have all been released. In exchange for Jewish children, mothers and grandmothers, Israel has released 150 terrorists and allowed over a thousand trucks filled with humanitarian aid into Gaza. And of course, the IDF has stopped hunting down and eliminating terrorists...for the time being. For a list of the hostages released thus far, click here.

There are still many women, children and elderly people being held captive by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and possibly other terror groups in Gaza.

Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas terrorists in Gaza and the mastermind behind the Oct. 7 massacre, reportedly visited a group of Israeli hostages in a tunnel in southern Gaza during the early days of the ground war. He spoke to them in fluent Hebrew saying, "Hello, I am Yahya Sinwar. You are the safest here. Nothing will happen to you." Sinwar learned Hebrew while in prison in Israel, where he also was operated on by Israeli doctors to remove a brain tumor. A relative of one of those doctors is reportedly a hostage in Gaza.

In the last hour, 3 explosive devices were activated near IDF troops in northern Gaza and shots were fired at the troops. Several soldiers were lightly wounded. Troops returned fire, wounding 6 terrorists. Israel is maintaining the cease-fire despite these violations by Hamas.

Mossad Director David Barnea arrived in Doha on Tuesday to meet with CIA Director William Burns and Qatari officials to advance ongoing and future negotiations for releasing hostages held in Gaza. They are reportedly going to discuss the release of male hostages. US Secretary of State Blinken will visit Israel on Thursday to seek a further extension of the truce.

The government approved an agreement with Hamas for the release of at least 50 hostages, children and mothers, in exchange for a 4 day cease-fire and the release of 150 detainees, also women and minors. Most of the detainees are from east Jerusalem and the West Bank. None of them have been convicted for murder, but many of them were convicted for attempted murder and all were involved in terror attacks. Israel will also permit the entry of 300 trucks with humanitarian supplies daily, including fuel, into Gaza, during the cease-fire. For more on the prisoners to be released, click here. https://www.ynetnews.com/article/hyhzclsea?utm_source=email

Qatar will operate a control room coordinating with Israeli authorities, Hamas, the Red Cross, and the US to ensure the deal's elements are implemented effectively. If the initial phase of the agreement goes well, then there is the potential of extending the cease-fire an additional day for every 10 additional hostages released. The cease-fire is set to begin at 10:00am on Thursday.

The government said that it is committed to continuing the ground war after the cease-fire. it warned that if Hamas breaches the cease-fire, Israel will respond with massive force. The Chief of General Staff, the head of the Shin Bet, and the head of the Mossad unanimously agreed that the deal would be beneficial from a security standpoint. Hezbollah said that it will honor the cease-fire.

The IDF has continued to strike Hamas targets in Gaza, killing dozens of terrorists and uncovering tunnels and weapons caches in civilian buildings.

Regarding the hostage negotiations, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said today, "The Qatari mediation is in its final stage and at the closest point to reaching a cease-fire. We do not have a final agreement yet, but will announce the details as soon as we do." Hamas released details of what they say that they have agreed to, which include a five day truce and the release of 50 woman and children hostages, 10 per day. Israel would release 300 Palestinian woman and children security prisoners. The deal would also include the delivery of 300 trucks of humanitarian aid. Israel has not confirmed or denied any details. The government will meet later today to discuss the potential deal.

The deputy commander of the military wing of Hamas in Lebanon, Khalil Kharaz, and 3 other Hamas terrorists were reportedly killed in an air strike in southern Lebanon today.

This morning 3 terrorists fired at vehicles near the tunnel road checkpoint in Jerusalem. At least six people were injured, 1 critically. Included in the injured are 2 policemen who fought the terrorists. The terrorists were from the Hebron area and affiliated with the Hamas leadership. A large amount of ammunition and axes were found in the terrorists' vehicle, indicating that they might have been on their way to committing a large attack in Jerusalem.

IDF forces are firing artillery at terrorist positions in southern Lebanon in response to rocket launches and anti-tank fire.

israel news
Rocket barrages were fired from Lebanon at northern cities including Safed and Acco. Rockets were reportedly intercepted above Safed. No injuries or damage was reported. Anti-tank missiles fired from Lebanon killed 3 civilians. The IDF has responded with strikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. Over the weekend the IDF dropped leaflets in southern Lebanon urging civilians to evacuate north.

Earlier today, IDF forces engaged in a battle with terrorists who were firing at them from the entrance of Al Quds Hospital in Gaza City, embedded within a mass of civilians. Terrorists fired RPGs, damaging a tank, and then went into hide in the hospital. IDF forces returned fire and eliminated 21 terrorists. There were no Israeli casualties.

The European Union, last night, condemned Hamas's use of "hospitals and civilians as human shields" and also called on Israel to use "maximum restraint" in order to protect civilians.

The IDF spokesperson presented evidence that the Hamas central command center is located beneath Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The underground center has several floors containing meeting rooms, storage facilities and living accommodations for hundreds of people. It is connected to a web of tunnels that span throughout Gaza City. US intelligence sources have also confirmed the existence of the Hamas command center.

The IDF attempted to deliver fuel to Shifa hospital, but Hamas terrorists prevented the delivery.

IDF forces have captured over 20 terrorists in Gaza and sent them back to Israel for interrogation, since the start of the ground war.

The IDF death count has risen to 44.

The Israeli Navy has located and destroyed large Hamas weapons caches hidden under water.

U.S. official confirmed yesterday that negotiations to release 80 to 100 women and children held hostage by Hamas in Gaza are ongoing, but that there is no certainty that a deal will be reached.

The U.S. bombed two targets in eastern Syria, not far from the Iraqi border, hitting a control center and a weapons depot belonging to pro-Iranian militias. A Lebanese Hezbollah affiliated media outlet reported today that 15 artillery shells were fired at the American al-Amr base, east of Deir ez-Zur, and that 4 Americans were killed.

[Tomorrow I will be on a bus to Washington DC for what will hopefully be a massive rally in support of Israel, so I will not be publishing IsraelAM.]
