Refusing to be intimidated by
CAIR-Minnesota
Last week, the Minnesota affiliate of CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), launched an all-out campaign to get two ACT! for America public events cancelled.

CAIR-Minnesota failed, because ACT! for America and the host sites refused to knuckle under to this intimidation. We commend the two host sites for standing their ground in defense of free speech.

CAIR-Minnesota employed the typical Muslim Brotherhood strategy, issuing press releases that engaged in name-calling, threats, disinformation and smear tactics (all in the name of tolerance, of course!).

Minnesota is a hotbed for radical Islam and is the home to a congressman who proudly supports CAIR. It wasn’t surprising, then, to see CAIR-Minnesota’s efforts assisted by some gullible local media outlets.

However, all the media attention backfired on CAIR-Minnesota. At the event in Little Falls, so many people showed up in support of ACT! for America that the fire marshal had to turn people away!!!

The same thing happened a few months ago in Concrete, Washington, where CAIR-Washington tried to bully a teacher and the local school district. A rally in support of the teacher, which ACT! for America helped organize and publicize, drew so many people that hundreds stood outside the building, in the rain, looking in through the windows!

We know that CAIR reads our national emails, so here’s a message for them:

We won’t be intimidated by you, and there are a whole lot of patriotic Americans that won’t be either. We will not let up or give up in our mission to educate America about who you and the Muslim Brotherhood really are, and the threat you pose to our nation. And as Concrete, Washington and Little Falls, Minnesota demonstrate, the more you try to stop us, the more you help our efforts.

A public school textbook with 72 pages on Islam for every 1 page on other religions?

The Saudi’s feeling the pinch

A Saudi prince issued an extraordinary warning recently. See the Sky News story below.

Imagine a world where Saudi Arabia couldn’t spend billions of dollars every year funding mosques and madrassas around the world, and exporting materials and imams that espouse radical Islamist ideology.

A Saudi prince has warned that his oil-reliant nation is under threat because of fracking technology being developed elsewhere around the world.

Billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said the Gulf Arab kingdom needed to reduce its reliance on crude oil and diversify its revenues.

His warning comes as rising shale energy supplies in the United States cut global demand for Saudi oil.

In an open letter to his country's oil minister Ali al Naimi and other government heads, published on Sunday via his Twitter account, Prince Alwaleed said demand for oil from Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) member states was "in continuous decline".

He said Saudi Arabia's heavy dependence on oil was "a truth that has really become a source of worry for many".

He added that the world's biggest crude oil exporter should implement "swift measures" to diversify its economy.

Prince Alwaleed, owner of international investment firm Kingdom Holding, is unusually outspoken for a top Saudi businessman.

But his warning reflects growing concern in private among many Saudis about the long-term impact of shale technology.

It is allowing the US and Canada to tap unconventional oil deposits which they could not reach just a few years ago.

Small towns, like Carroll County in Ohio, have been boosted by fracking

Chancellor George Osborne has also announced support for fracking in Britain and in offshore waters, to ease a reliance on foreign oil and gas.

Some analysts think this may push demand for Saudi oil, as well as global oil prices, down sharply over the next decade.

Over the past couple of years the Saudi government has taken some initial steps to develop the economy beyond oil.

It has sought to liberalise the aviation sector and provided finance to small, entrepreneurial firms in the services and technology sectors.

Cuadrilla has been exploring for gas in Britain, despite public protests

Mr Naimi said publicly in May that he was not concerned about rising US shale oil supplies.

Prince Alwaleed told Mr Naimi in his open letter, which was dated May 13 this year, that he disagreed with him.

The prince said: "Our country is facing a threat with the continuation of its near-complete reliance on oil, especially as 92% of the budget for this year depends on oil.

"It is necessary to diversify sources of revenue, establish a clear vision for that and start implementing it immediately."

The prince said Saudi Arabia should move ahead with plans for nuclear and solar energy production to cut local consumption of oil.

The shale oil threat means Saudi Arabia will not be able to raise its production capacity to 15 million barrels of oil per day (mbpd), Prince Alwaleed argued.

Current capacity is about 12.5mbpd; a few years ago the country planned to increase capacity to 15mbpd, but then put the plan on hold after the global financial crisis.

While most Saudi officials have in public insisted they are not worried by the shale threat, Opec has recognised that it needs to address the issue.

In a report earlier this month, Opec forecast demand for its oil in 2014 would average 29.61mbpd, down 250,000bpd from 2013. It cited rising non-Opec supply, especially from the US.

Riyadh has announced a metro system to ease car usage

The fracking warning comes as Saudi Arabia announced three foreign consortiums - led by US, Spanish and Italian firms - have won a $22.5bn contract to build Riyadh's 110-mile, six-line metro train network.

Tom Cotton: It's the House Bill or Nothing on Immigration
What's to stop President Obama from refusing to enforce the Senate bill's border-security promises?

America is a nation of immigrants, but we're also a nation of laws, and the U.S. immigration system should respect both traditions. Unfortunately, the Senate immigration bill undermines the rule of law without solving the country's illegal-immigration problem, and it will harm American workers. The House of Representatives will reject any proposal with the Senate bill's irreparably flawed structure, which is best described as: legalization first, enforcement later . . . maybe.

This basic design flaw repeats the mistake of the 1986 amnesty law, which, according to former Attorney General Edwin Meese, President Reagan considered the biggest mistake of his presidency. The Senate bill ensures, as did the 1986 law, that we'll have full legalization but little-to-no enforcement.

The Senate bill's advocates argue that its implementation of enforcement measures, such as extending the security fence on the border with Mexico, will precede and be a "trigger" for opening a path to citizenship. But these advocates are conflating legalization and citizenship. America has approximately 12 million illegal immigrants, who chiefly desire the right to live and work here legally. The Senate bill legalizes them a mere six months after enactment.

In the bill, legalization comes with trivial preconditions. Pay a "fine"? Yes, but it's less than $7 per month and can be waived. Pay back taxes? Only if a tax lien has already been filed, which will be rare for undocumented work. Pass a criminal-background check? Yes, with a gaping exception allowed for illegal immigrants with up to two misdemeanors—or more, if the convictions occurred on the same day—even if these were pleaded down from felony offenses and included serious offenses such as domestic violence and drunken driving.

This approach is unjust and counterproductive. We should welcome the many foreigners patiently obeying our laws and waiting overseas to immigrate legally. Instead, the Senate bill's instant, easy legalization rewards lawbreakers and thus encourages more illegal immigration.

What's worse, the bill's illusory enforcement mechanisms won't stop this illegal immigration.

This year, the governor of Oklahoma signed into law American Laws for American Courts (ALAC) legislation.

The Alabama legislature passed ALAC and has sent it to the voters for approval in 2014 to add ALAC to the state constitution.

South Dakota passed the Free Speech Defense Act.

A school board in Northern Virginia rejected a charter school application from a group affiliated with the Islamist Gulen Movement.

A principal in Washington state removed a flawed, biased textbook from the school.

Kansas said "no" to sharia law and passed anti-Female Genital Mutilation legislation.

Tucson schools taking MB-tainted money!

It’s bad enough that countless colleges and universities have accepted hundreds of millions—perhaps billions—in grants from Saudi entities.

It’s bad enough that the textbooks used in public schools are typically laced with egregious errors, omissions, and outright historical falsehoods on the subject of Islam. (See the ACT! for America Education report here.)

Now we learn that, according to multiple media sources, the Tucson public schools are going to accept nearly a half million dollars from the Qatar Foundation, which the Daily Caller story below reports has “strong ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.”

A few years ago a congressional staffer told Brigitte Gabriel and Guy Rodgers (ACT! for America Executive Director) about a college that had been accepting Saudi money for years.

And then one day the college was told that, if they wanted to keep getting the money, they had to make changes to their Mideast Studies department to satisfy their Saudi benefactors.

We’re not saying the Qatar Foundation will make that kind of demand on the Tucson schools. But wisdom dictates that colleges, universities, and now K-12 school districts, should investigate and understand who’s behind the money and what their agenda is—and act accordingly.

Last week, the governing board of the Tucson Unified School District asked the school board to accept a $465,000 curriculum grant from the Qatar Foundation International, a global philanthropic organization with strong ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organization of the terrorist group Hamas.

The grant money is intended to implement “innovative curricula and teaching materials to be used in any Arabic language classroom,” reports the Arizona Daily Independent.

Two Tucson schools, Safford K-8 Magnet School and Cholla High Magnet School, will be the recipients of the terror-infested cash, according to Tucson News Now.

Terrorists crossing our

Please add your name to our SECOND Open Letter calling for border security and visa reform!

The U.S. Senate recently passed a massive 1,200 page “immigration reform” bill(not read by most Senators) that effectively legalizes everyone first and then includes a soft “enforcement” provision that kicks the pathway to citizenship into gear.

Our current visa system is broken and our borders are not secure. Those issues must be the main priority of any approach to immigration reform. Before we enact a process to track these and others who enter our country, doesn’t it make sense to have a solid system in place that can identify potentially dangerous individuals?

The jihadist terrorist attacks going as far back as 9/11/01 and as recent as the Boston Marathon, demonstrate that our visa process is in dire need of reform to ensure that prospective terrorists can’t abuse it. This must be the top priority for our federal legislators.

Unfortunately, promises to ensure that our borders are secure and our visa system is reformed remain just that—PROMISES. You can help us see those promises become a reality. Will you help us?

Our first Open Letter to Congress on this issue was signed by over 11,000 concerned citizens. The letter stated that the first step our nation must take with regard to immigration reform is to secure our borders and fix a broken visa system. Just prior to the Senate vote, Lisa Piraneo, our Director of Government Relations, delivered our Open Letter to the leadership of the U.S. Congress, so they were aware of our views and heard our collective voice.

We have now written a SECOND Open Letter aimed exclusively at the House leadership, to make sure that our voice on this issue remains loud and clear and that we have an impact on what the House does with this legislation.

The House has several choices of action: consider the Senate’s bill (which Speaker Boehner has said he won’t), pass its own legislation, or do nothing at all.

You can be sure that members of the House are hearing from many constituents who are angry at the Senate’s rapid, political, and non-transparent approach to immigration reform. If this language—or anything like it—becomes law, our nation is at great peril. We will be allowing millions of illegal aliens to attain legal status in our nation BEFORE we have secured our borders and have processes in place to know WHO exactly is entering and leaving our country.

We must do all that we can to see the Senate’s immigration “reform” approach stopped in its tracks. You are the key to achieving that goal.

“The current author [Poole] was informed by the same senior Department of Justice official that the planned prosecution of a dozen different [Islamic] leaders on racketeering, money laundering, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, and naturalization fraud was dropped by the orders of high-ranking officials…Among those set to be prosecuted were leaders of ISNA…” ISNA president Mohamed Majid is an advisor to the White House, and ISNA was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial.
“When congressional oversight committees tried to investigate the purged FBI training materials, concerned that national security interests were being sacrificed to political correctness and unduly influenced by terror-tied Islamic organizations, the FBI refused to disclose the training materials that had been purged and promptly moved to classify all such materials.”
“More recently, Congressman Louie Gohmert challenged the removal of these terms from the FBI’s ‘Counterterrorism Analytical Lexicon,’ including ‘jihad,’ ‘Islam,’ and even ‘Hamas,’ ‘Hizbollah,’ and ‘al-Qaida,’ in a floor speech in the House of Representatives. The very next day, FBI representatives contacted Gohmert’s staff, claiming that the lexicon he cited didn’t even exist. Those same representatives quickly retreated when it was confirmed that hard copies had been distributed to all counterterrorism agents in the field, electronic copies resided on the FBI’s intranet, and after the current author [Poole] reported the matter and posted an electronic copy of the FBI’s lexicon online.”

In three days we in America celebrate the 1776 adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

237 years later, one of the core freedoms our founding fathers fought for, freedom of speech, is under attack.

This week—at any time—the U.S. Senate is expected to vote on its comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

Though an amendment that supposedly strengthens the national security aspect of the bill recently passed in the Senate, it doesn’t achieve what its supporters say it does. And it certainly does not do enough to assure that our borders are secure and that our government has a firm grasp on who is entering our country and who is leaving it—before we grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) National Council President, Chris Crane has said, “this bill fails to address the problems which have led to the nation’s broken immigration system and in fact will only serve to worsen current immigration problems.”

Further, the 1,200-page bill was very difficult to understand at the outset. Now that over 500 of its pages have been amended, it is even more confusing. The U.S. Congress should not be voting on legislative language that it doesn’t understand. Immigration reform is too big of an issue, and too important to the security of our nation, to be used as a political ploy. An immigration reform bill should not be rammed through the U.S. Congress quickly, and in one gigantic bill. We’ve seen that done before and we know how that turned out.

We need a common-sense, incremental approach to this important issue.

Your U.S. Senators are gearing up to vote on this disastrous bill and it’s very important that they hear from you—the person they represent—before they do so.

What jihad has cost Americans

Perhaps you’ve noticed. Every time there’s a jihadist attack, whether foiled or successful, government leaders, media mouthpieces, Muslim Brotherhood front organizations, and academic apologists bend over backwards urging us not to rush to judgment.

They collectively decry “Islamophobia” and wring their hands in fear for all the Muslims who will now be persecuted by “bigoted” Americans.

It’s so predictable, it’s like watching a bad remake of the movie “Groundhog Day.”

Perhaps you’ve also noticed that the alleged bigoted wave of Muslim persecution never comes. If it did, it would be front page news all over America.

What you won’t find on the front page news is the horrific cost in lives, money, and freedom, that America specifically, and the West generally, has paid—and continues to pay—thanks to the rising tide of global Islamic jihad.

Most of us have some awareness of the cost in lives, from 9/11 to Ft. Hood to the Boston Marathon bombings.

The direct cost in dollars is tougher to calculate. Since its creation we’ve spent over $400 billion for the Department of Homeland Security. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost close to $1.5 trillion. Throw in the creation of the TSA; extra costs for security at every level of society; the costs for Guantanamo Bay and every prosecution of every Islamic terrorist; and I’d estimate we’re conservatively talking about $2.5 trillion since 9/11.

We’re paying that with our taxes and the national debt we’re piling on our children and grandchildren.

What’s more, as soon as a jihadist blows up something at one of our ports we’ll have to implement heightened security and screening measures not now in place. Ka-ching.

And all these costs don’t include the indirect cost in dollars due to the recession after 9/11. Hundreds of billions? Who knows? I know my IRA took a huge hit after 9/11.

But what about the intangible costs we’ve incurred? The costs in loss of freedom, rising fear, and impositions on our way of life?

Onerous shakedowns, pat-downs, put-downs, and invasive imaging at airport security.
Extra time we have to allow to go through long security lines at airports.
Watching the TSA agent throw away your expensive bottle of perfume you forgot was in your carry-on bag.
Explosion of public surveillance cameras.
Extra time we have to allow when attending any public event where security is considered necessary (such as sporting events).
Fear of going to public events.
That knot in our stomachs when we see an abandoned backpack in a public place.
The time law enforcement has to spend preventing terrorism and tracking down terrorists—time that takes them away from keeping us safe from murderers, rapists, thieves and vandals.
Bag searches at theme parks like Disney World.
Endless intimidation tactics, such as the persecution of free speech, name calling and threats (“Islamophobe,” “racist,” “bigot,” etc., etc.). I’m thinking of that wonderful teacher in Concrete, Washington, whose reputation has been smeared by CAIR-Washington because she dared to tell the truth about the Taliban and Hamas.
Government intimidation, such as reported instances where government agents (e.g., police), have shown up at people’s homes to question them after complaints of “Islamophobia.” I wonder how many burglaries occurred while those police were busy interrogating innocent people?
Messing with the minds of our children and grandchildren thanks to biased and inaccurate public school textbooks.
Heightened security precautions for every person or organization that speaks out against the threat of radical Islam. For instance, some of our chapter leaders use pen names. Brigitte Gabriel has been the target of death threats.
Government surveillance of our websites and blog sites.
The NSA (National Security Agency) collecting phone records nationwide. The justification for this, and it’s understandable even if disconcerting, is the terrorist threat to our national security. No terrorist threat, no phone records seizure.
Banking and financial regulations that impose often unseen burdens on our ability to engage in financial transactions. One group of nuns actually had their bank account frozen because they were suspected of terrorism. Why? One of the nuns didn’t have her Social Security number and photo ID on the account!

In short, the entire fabric of American society has been dramatically altered by the rising tide of global Islamic jihad. There is no aspect of our lives that hasn’t been negatively impacted by this. We have less privacy, less freedom, more cost, more fear—the inevitable consequence of jihadist terror.

And the jihadists know this. They know their actions are negatively impacting our lives. It’s part of their strategy to break our will.

I’m not saying Islamic jihad is the only threat that has spawned all of these changes to our lives. But clearly, it’s the most predominant, by far.

As I assess the incredible price we’re paying for jihad, I’ve grown weary of hearing how Muslims are being inconvenienced or feel uncomfortable or feel like their rights are being infringed upon.

Join the club. Every time I have to virtually undress at the airport, I feel violated and my rights infringed upon.

I’ve lost patience with the complaining about how bad Muslims are being treated in America, about the price they’re paying.

We’re ALL paying a price. Where’s the sympathy and empathy for us non-Muslims who didn’t ask for this?

To the degree that Muslims are suffering repercussions, they’re paying a price for the actions of other Muslims. If they really want things to change, they can do something about it by going to the heart of the problem and standing up to the stealth and violent jihadists in their midst, including their leaders.

Stop screaming “Islamophobia” and start exposing all the hate-filled, violent and jihadist literature in the majority of mosques in America.
Join together with reformist Muslims and organizations who are confronting the Muslim Brotherhood and its alphabet soup of legacy organizations in America (CAIR, ISNA, MAS, MPAC, MSA, IIIT, NAIT, etc., etc., etc.).
Start asking why historically open and tolerant countries like the Netherlands, who welcomed Muslim immigration for decades, are now experiencing a growing citizen pushback against that immigration.
Start putting yourselves in the shoes of us non-Muslims. We’re paying a hefty price for something we didn’t ask for and we didn’t deserve.

And please, no more lectures about how supposedly “intolerant” Americans are. It’s a remarkable commentary on the goodness and tolerance of Americans when you consider the enormous price we’ve paid thanks to jihad, which we’ve shouldered virtually without retaliation against the Muslim community.

So the next time someone complains to you about the price Muslims are paying, however that price is defined, nod your head and say “I hear you. Have you ever calculated the price non-Muslims are paying because of global Islamic jihad?”

And then spell it out for them.

Who knows? You might change a few minds along the way.

The jihad rages on, but the War on Terror is over.

There is no longer a national-security consensus — no longer the political support for wartime defense measures, much less offensive combat operations. While the enemy continues to fight, our will to break the enemy’s will has vanished. After a contentious week, that much is clear. The controversy swirling around shadowy intelligence programs hasn’t gotten to the bottom of those programs, but it tells us everything we need to know about . . . us.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s dog that did not bark is a metaphor worn out by journalists. This week, though, the lack of a bark was loud and clear: The bark of the national-security Right defending the wartime powers of the presidency. For a variety of reasons, many of the protagonists have developed amnesia about how we came to have the programs now provoking all the cavil: the debates over the PATRIOT Act and FISA (the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act).

After a series of attacks through the Nineties, the 9/11 atrocities destroyed the World Trade Center, struck the Pentagon, and killed nearly 3,000 Americans. In the savage clarity, our nation finally realized that what I’ve called “kinetic Islam” — a combination of militant jihadists and their sharia-supremacist enablers — was at war with the United States. The PATRIOT Act was a product of our vigorous and persuasive contention, on the national-security right, that the challenge was an enemy force, not a criminal-justice problem. That challenge demanded a national war-footing, not judicial due process.

It was precisely this contention, moreover, that beat back the Left’s effort to intrude the judiciary into the collection of foreign intelligence — constitutionally, a paradigm executive function — when FISA was overhauled in 2008.

In fits and starts over the years, progressives and libertarians have aligned against the war, for different reasons. Hardwired to find American fault in every dispute, the Left is sympathetic to Islamic supremacism’s indictment against the United States, if not its barbaric methods. Libertarians have been wary because war inexorably enhances the power of the state at the expense of liberty — Big Government is more to be feared than the jihad.

That this fear is overstated does not mean it is frivolous. It is real, and has been stoked to a fare-thee-well by the “War on Terror.” The label itself betrays our cravenness. Unwilling to name the enemy for fear of giving offense, the government framed the challenge not as an aggressor but as an aggressive tactic. It encouraged Americans to go on with their lives as normal (lest “the terrorists win”).

Necessarily, this ensured that the public would notice the war only in the government’s defense measures against the tactic. These were thus certain to become more onerous; after all, that was how politicians too timid to say “Islam” or “jihad” proved they were tough on . . . er . . . “violent extremism.” But these defense measures, erosions of liberty and privacy, could be abided only as long as the public felt profoundly threatened. That feeling would certainly not last, no matter how long we had troops on faraway battlefields, if the public was not (a) invested in victory over our enemies; (b) persuaded that being molested at the airport and similar indignities had something to do with achieving victory; and (c) convinced that the lack of similar-scale attacks in the years after 9/11 was due to the defense measures.

The most compelling claim against the war effort, argued jointly by progressives and libertarians, was that there was no conceivable conclusion to a war of this nature. Wars against traditional enemies end when the enemy — usually, a nation-state — surrenders or strikes a treaty. But how can a war against a tactic end?

Consequently, the argument went, the War on Terror would go on indefinitely, and with it the metastasizing security state. This argument is now muted on the Left. Bush-deranged progressives turn out to be quite comfortable with a security state as long as one of their own is running it. But for libertarians, the argument has grown ever more heated.

Nothing, not even war, happens in a vacuum. Over the last six years, as libertarian angst churned over surveillance, detention, military commissions, and drone attacks, the progressive-lite GOP establishment gave way to hardcore Obama statism. As a result, libertarians, quite appropriately, have become a hugely influential opposition faction. They are a big part of the Tea Party’s energy, and the Tea Party is the dynamo of the Right. Increasingly, as the Right’s ne plus ultra has become stopping Big Government’s advance, conservatives and Republicans have been more willing to overlook libertarian objections to adhesive security measures — sometimes, even to see a good deal of sense in them.

What the FBI Director didn’t know

Look no further than the exchange between U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, a courageous congressman who truly “gets it,” and FBI Director Robert Mueller.

While the National Security Agency (NSA) has been busy collecting phone records of hundreds of millions of Americans, our FBI ignored evidence provided by the Russians that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was talking about jihad.

Had the FBI not ignored the jihad warnings, the Boston Marathon bombing might well have been prevented.

Obviously, the NSA phone collection program didn’t prevent it.

In an open society it’s not possible to prevent every terrorist attack. And there are good arguments for and against what the NSA does (and truth be told, who is sure how far their data collection goes?). Given the IRS targeting of certain kinds of organizations, one of our concerns is that the data will be misused.

But the more our government counterterrorism approach practices “Jihad Denial Syndrome,” the more likely it will be that jihadists like Tamerlan Tsarnaev will slip through our defenses.

And no amount of phone data collection will make up for that politically correct failure.

Earlier this week, Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS/4^th) took to the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to ask why there is continued relative silence by Islamic religious leaders worldwide after jihadist attacks. Mr. Pompeo noted, “It’s been just under two months since the attacks in Boston and in those intervening weeks, the silence of Muslim leaders has been deafening…and that is sad, but most importantly, it is dangerous.” ClickHERE to watch the Congressman’s full statement on the House Floor before his colleagues.

So how did CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations respond? Did they agree with the Congressman and join together with him in his call for more Islamic religious leaders to speak out boldly against ongoing jihadist attacks here in the U.S. and across the world?

Of course not.

No, CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial (the largest terror-financing trial in U.S. history), and the Hamas propaganda arm in the United States, played their usual game of legislative “whack-a-mole” by attacking Congressman Pompeo.

As CAIR soon found out, however, the Congressman isn’t one to easily back down when he is right. Kudos to Congressman Pompeo!!!

Yesterday, in a public response to CAIR’s attack, Mr. Pompeo said, “I’m not backing down in my call for Islamic partners to do more to combat Islamic extremism. Actions speak louder than words: If religious leaders are serious about wanting to end this violence, they need to help address the cause of it….” Further, the Congressman noted to CAIR, “While it is laudable to issue English-language press releases in response to a couple of high-profile terrorist attacks, this is simply not enough. Instead, these groups must lead the charge on eliminating the radical elements of your faith.”

Outreach to the wrong people

Patrick Poole—counterterrorism analyst, investigator, and writer—recently posted a comprehensive exposé of the failed Muslim outreach programs of three presidential administrations.

Poole’s exposé begins with this introduction:

Why has the U.S. government called certain Islamic groups supporters of terror in federal court, and then turned around and called these same organizations “moderates” and embraced them as outreach partners? In a number of cases from the Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations, the leaders of these organizations (some of whom are now in federal prison) were under active investigation at the same time they were meeting with senior U.S. leaders at the White House and the Capitol and helping develop U.S. policy. Now these same Islamic organizations and leaders have openly encouraged a purge of counterterrorism training that have effectively blinded law enforcement, homeland security, and intelligence agencies to active terror threats as seen in the inaction of the FBI concerning the Boston bombing suspects and other terror cases. This study poses serious questions as to the efficacy and even security concerns about U.S. government outreach to Islamic groups, which often turn out to be Islamist militants, enemies of Islamic moderation, and even supporters of terrorism.

As Poole demonstrates, this faulty outreach program was a bi-partisan effort spanning 20 years, two Democratic presidents and one Republican.

Today we bring you two different articles that have a common theme.

The first is a WorldNetDaily story that begins this way:

You can thank the Electronic Privacy Information Center for forcing the Department of Homeland Security to release its list of “keywords” that are used by its agents to monitor you on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.

The story then lists the various “key words,” and here’s what’s revealing. You’ll find “militia” but not “jihad.” In fact, you won’t find any “key word” that links specifically to radical Islam.

The second article is also a WorldNetDaily story, that exposes how the IRS restored tax-exempt status to CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations).

In 2011, the IRS stripped CAIR of this non-profit status for failing to file non-profit tax returns for years. Yet the IRS restored CAIR’s status despite the fact that CAIR still has not filed all the information required for previous years!

Meanwhile, of course, we’ve all read about the IRS targeting of tea party, pro-national security and pro-Israel organizations.

Immigration officers say immigration reform bill threatens national security

A recent Wall Street Journal story (below, highlights added) says it all:

“A union representing immigration officers sharpened its criticism of the Senate immigration bill Thursday, saying the proposal threatens national security.”

This legislation is not a done deal. There are many proposed amendments and the House still has to consider it.

Now is the time to add your voice to those on the front lines—immigration officers—who know as well as anyone how the flaws in this legislation will hurt our national security.

Union: Immigration Proposal Threatens National Security

A union representing immigration officers sharpened its criticism of the Senate immigration bill Thursday, saying the proposal threatens national security.

In a letter to the eight senators who crafted immigration reform, the National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council, which represents immigration adjudications officers and staff, put forth a laundry list of concerns with the legislation.

According to the union letter, “the proposal you have put forward hampers our ability to do our jobs, increases threats to national security, and ignores the dire problems afflicting our agency.”

The 12,000-member National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council and the 7,000-member National ICE Council representing immigration and customs officers and agents, have been particularly vocal in protesting the bill.

Their outspoken approach has caused some discomfort, though. Over breakfast earlier this week, some 250 members of the business community gathered in an Arlington, Va., hotel ballroom for an annual conference on immigration issues hosted by the American Council of International Personnel and Society for Human Resource Management. One of the attendees noted that he was uncomfortable with how vocal adjudicators had been in their opposition to immigration legislation.

“An adjudicator by joining the agency, does not relinquish his or her first amendment rights to opine,” saidAlejandro Mayorkas, director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the day’s keynote speaker. “And if the opinion is for or against comprehensive immigration reform, for example, I don’t necessarily view that as a partisan opinion as opposed to a policy opinion.”

In the latest batch of union concerns, Kenneth Palinkas, head of the union, said government agencies were ill-prepared to handle the increased workload if an immigration overhaul is passed.

The legislation “provides for a massive increase in the flow of [Citizenship and Immigration Services] casework while making no reforms to our broken adjudications process,” Mr. Palinkas wrote in the letter. “The result is predictable: if passed, [the bill] would lead to the rubber-stamping of millions of applications for both amnesty and future admissions, putting the public safety and the taxpayer at risk.”

“Why would the Senate pass a bill that makes it even more difficult for USCIS officers to identify, remove, or keep out public-safety threats?” the letter says.

Earlier this week, Mr. Mayorkas acknowledged there was still work to be done in streamlining the approval process for immigration applications. He said the agency has “failed the adjudicators” by failing to publish clear and consistent policies.

Still, Mr. Mayorkas had few reservations about being prepared to implement an immigration overhaul if it were to pass – even if it’s a complicated bill that brings a heavier workload.

“What might be perceived as a modest change in the law, actually could have very significant operational repercussions,” he said of the proposed overhaul. Even so, “we will be ready. We will implement it effectively and we will implement it on time.”

One person in the hotel ballroom clapped vigorously.

“That was a resounding applause,” Mr. Mayorkas quipped.

Immigration “reform” and national security

Legislation dubbed as “comprehensive immigration reform” is scheduled to head to the Senate floor this month.

Unfortunately, promises to ensure that the border is secured before millions of illegal immigrants are allowed into our country remain just that—PROMISES.

There is no requirement in the current Senate bill that our border be secured FIRST before doing anything else regarding immigration reform.

What’s more, jihadist terrorist attacks going as far back as 9/11/01 and as recent as the Boston Marathon demonstrate that our visa process is in dire need of reform to ensure that prospective terrorists can’t abuse it.

The Senate bill doesn’t accomplish this either.

In short, from a national security perspective, the Senate bill is sorely lacking and it’s important that the U.S. Congress hear from the folks back home that this just isn’t acceptable.

This is why we’re urging you to sign our Open Letter to the leadership of the U.S. Congress today—to send a loud and clear message that before they move forward on any other immigration reform matters, our border must be secured and our visa process effectively reformed.

The latest assault
on free speech

Dear Elaine,

Tomorrow night (June 4th) a meeting that appears to be unprecedented will take place in Manchester, Tennessee.

A representative of the Department of Justice—a U.S. Attorney—and an FBI agent will appear at a meeting sponsored by a Muslim organization to warn people about speech that is allegedly violating the civil rights of Muslims.

See the Politico story below (highlights and Editor’s Note added).

ACT! for America has already sent an email to our Tennessee list, urging people to show up at this meeting and respectfully express their concerns about this assault on free speech. While we find the Facebook posting described in the story below to be provocative and ill-advised, it is certainly less inflammatory than some of the jihadist speech publicly proclaimed by imams in this country.

And as Floyd Abrams, a First Amendment expert, points out in the story below, this government effort to intimidate free speech is “just wrong.”

If you’d like to attend the meeting in Manchester, it will start at 6:30 P.M. and take place at the Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center, 147 Hospitality Blvd.

Feds suggest anti-Muslim speech can be punished

A U.S. attorney in Tennessee is reportedly vowing to use federal civil rights statutes to clamp down on offensive and inflammatory speech about Islam.

Bill Killian, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, was quoted by the Tullahoma News this week suggesting that some inflammatory material on Islam might run afoul of federal civil rights laws.

"We need to educate people about Muslims and their civil rights, and as long as we’re here, they’re going to be protected," Killian told the newspaper.

Killian, along with the FBI special agent that runs the Knoxville office, are set to speak next week to a special meeting with the local Muslim community, informing them about their rights under federal law.

"This is an educational effort with civil rights laws as they play into freedom of religion and exercising freedom of religion," Killian said about the meeting. "This is also to inform the public what federal laws are in effect and what the consequences are."

Killian pointed to a recent controversy where a local Tennessee politician posted a photo of a man aiming a shotgun at the camera with the caption "How to wink at a Muslim."

"If a Muslim had posted ‘How to Wink at a Christian,’ could you imagine what would have happened?" Killian asked, according to the newspaper.

The Department of Justice did not respond Friday to a question about what guidelines it draws concerning offensive speech and Islam, or whether the department believes that civil rights statutes could be used to stifle criticism of Islam.

While threats directed at individuals or small groups can lead to punishment, First Amendment experts expressed doubt that the government has any power to stop offensive material about Islam from circulating.

"He’s just wrong," said Floyd Abrams, one of the country's most respected First Amendment attorneys. "The government may, indeed, play a useful and entirely constitutional role in urging people not to engage in speech that amounts to religious discrimination. But it may not, under the First Amendment, prevent or punish speech even if it may be viewed as hostile to a religion."

"And what it most clearly may not do is to stifle political or social debate, however rambunctious or offensive some may think it is," Abrams said.

A conservative watchdog group, Judicial Watch, accused the Obama administration of using federal law to specifically protect Muslims from criticism.

"In its latest effort to protect followers of Islam in the U.S. the Obama Justice Department warns against using social media to spread information considered inflammatory against Muslims, threatening that it could constitute a violation of civil rights," the group wrote in a blog post.

In recent years, the federal government has faced difficult questions about how to respond to material posted about Islam and the Prophet Muhammed — especially when the content causes riots or attacks abroad. In 2010, a Christian pastor in Florida, Terry Jones, made international news when he threatened to burn 200 copies of the Koran on the ninth anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

The federal government admitted it was powerless to stop Jones, though President Barack Obama condemned the idea. Jones backed off from his September attempt, but later burned a Koran in 2012.

A similar controversy erupted when a Coptic Christian man posted the trailer for an anti-Muhammed film online — causing rioting and an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. The Obama administration condemned the attack, while blasting the filmmaker for religious intolerance.

“How many ignored warnings does it take?”
Douglas Murray of the London-based Henry Jackson society wrote an excellent column last week for The Wall Street Journal (see below).

The subtitle states, “Britain has been in denial about the Islamist threat.”

So true. It’s very disturbing that this same denial permeates the thinking of far too many of America’s political, academic, media, counterterrorism and law enforcement leadership.

An Associated Press story over the weekend, referring to President Obama’s national security speech late last week, began this way:

“Some call it wishful thinking, but President Barack Obama has all but declared an end to the global war on terror.”

The reason Obama has done so is because he sees only al Qaida and its affiliates as a threat. Doing so misses the point.

The point is the “war on terror” is not confined to one organization and is not limited by geography, but is defined by those who subscribe to jihadist ideology. Denial won’t change this fact.

Our federal government continues to lead us down the very same path that has failed so miserably in Great Britain and much of Europe.

The London Terror Attack Was More Than 'Unforgivable'

Britain has been in denial about the Islamist threat. Time to face it down.

How many ignored warnings does it take? That is one question that should hang over Britain after the horror of the daytime murder of a British soldier on the streets of south London. On Wednesday afternoon, Drummer Lee Rigby was killed in Woolwich by two men wielding large knives and shouting "Allahu akbar"—God is great.

Islamists have been saying for years they would do this. They have planned to do it. And now they have done it.

The attack itself is not surprising. What is surprising is that British society remains so utterly unwilling not just to deal with this threat, but even to admit its existence. Politicians have called the Woolwich killing "unforgivable" and "barbarous." But expressions of anger should not really be enough.

Attempts to attack military targets in Britain go back to before the millennium and even before, it is important to note, the war on terror. In 1998 Amer Mirza, a member of the now-banned extremist group al Muhajiroun, attempted to petrol-bomb British army barracks. In 2007, a cell of Muslim men was found guilty of plotting to kidnap and behead a British soldier in Birmingham. The plan had been to take the soldier to a lock-up garage and cut off his head "like a pig." They wanted to film this act on camera and send it around the world to cause maximum terror.

In 2009, al Muhajiroun protested at a homecoming parade in Luton for British troops returning from Afghanistan. Carrying banners saying "go to hell," "butchers" and "terrorists," the group was protected by British police officers from an increasingly irate crowd of locals. The resulting outrage toward the police gave rise to the deeply troubling English Defence League, a street protest movement that often turns violent.

Now comes the attack in Woolwich, which the perpetrators—as with the earlier cell—wished to be observed and even filmed. Reports suggest that they invited people to capture their actions on video. The perpetrators gave interviews, machetes in hand, to bystanders with cameras. This horrific scene is something that will stick in the memory.

But it should also have been foreseen. Instead we entered the stage of denial. For there is already, in the reaction to events, more than a hint of what I have previously termed "Toulouse syndrome." The term is named after the attacks last year carried out by a jihadist called Mohammed Merah, who killed three French soldiers in a rampage that concluded with the murders of four French Jews at a school in Toulouse.

In the early stages of the attacks, when little was known, there was significant speculation that the culprit was a far-right extremist. At that stage everybody knew what they were going to say. But once the culprit turned out to be an Islamist, the gaze nearly fell away completely. "Nothing to see here, please move on" was the order of the day.

"Toulouse syndrome" also touched Boston last month. After the bombing at the marathon, media and politicians waited, hoping—some even said as much—that the attackers would be tea-party types. Then everybody would know what to say. But when it turned out to be Islamists?

So it is with the Woolwich killing, which British officials have lined up to denounce. Yes it is sickening. Of course it is barbaric. But what of it? Even all these years after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2011, our societies remain unfit for purpose in facing up to—and facing down—Islamic extremism.

Too many still seek refuge in ignorance and denial that was so memorably displayed by U.S. officials after the Fort Hood shooting in 2009. A man who was a member of the American armed forces, Maj. Nidal Hasan, gunned down his colleagues while shouting "Allahu akbar." On that occasion the American government, like the French government before it and the British government this week, decided to focus on everything about the attack other than what really mattered: the motive. Fort Hood was put down to a case of workplace violence.

There will be many angles to the events in London that must be addressed in the coming days, and we can hope many will receive the appropriate level of public attention. Among them will be one particularly unpleasant irony.

Most of the extremists who have repeatedly expressed their hatred of British soldiers are themselves supported by the British state. A prominent hate-preacher—Anjem Choudary, a leader of the disbanded al Muhajiroun—was even caught on video earlier this year extolling Britain's "jihad-seekers' allowance." As he explained to his followers, "The normal situation, really, is to take money from the kafir"—a slur for non-Muslims. "Allahu akbar. We take the money."

After the video showed up online, a BBC reporter asked Mr. Choudary to clarify how much he's taking—the press has long reported a sum of £25,000 ($37,770) per year. "It's irrelevant," Mr. Choudary replied.

This would not be the first time a country has paid both sides in a conflict. But if the reported figure is anywhere near accurate, it would surely be the first time in human history that a society has paid its opponents better than it pays its own. A British soldier can expect to start in the army on a salary of around £16,000 ($24,172).

The events in south London must cause a re-evaluation by British society of the insanity we have been permitting. The question is not how sad we feel. The only question should be what we do about it.

When will the Pentagon properly remember those who were wounded at Ft. Hood?

Dear Elaine,

On Monday, Americans remember those who have fallen in the defense of our country.

In past years, ACT! for America president Brigitte Gabriel has sent out a personal email of thanks to the heroes and their families we remember on Memorial Day. Those who have heard Brigitte speak at our public events know how deeply Brigitte feels about the sacrifices made by those in the military on our behalf.

This is why we are so disturbed about the treatment of our soldiers who were wounded during the jihadist attack at Ft. Hood. Sadly, as we prepare to commemorate Memorial Day 2013, we feel compelled to ask a question of our leadership in the Pentagon.

What we’re referring to is an NBC News story below (highlights added).

The May 20th story reports that the Ft. Hood jihadist, Maj. Nidal Hasan, has continued to receive military pay totaling $278,000…

…while the soldiers who were wounded in the attack have been denied medical and other benefits provided to those who are wounded in combat.

The reason for this gross injustice is that the Pentagon has refused to classify the attack as a terrorist attack, calling it an act of “workplace violence” instead.

This is an outrageous and unacceptable capitulation to political correctness.

So while Pentagon leaders remember the fallen on Memorial Day, we would like to know, when will these leaders properly remember those who were wounded at Ft. Hood??

Awaiting Trial, Maj. Nidal Hasan Paid $278,000

The Department of Defense confirms to NBC 5 Investigates that accused Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hasan has now been paid more than $278,000 since the Nov. 5, 2009 shooting that left 13 dead 32 injured. The Army said under the Military Code of Justice, Hasan’s salary cannot be suspended unless he is proven guilty.

If Hasan had been a civilian defense department employee, NBC 5 Investigates has learned, the Army could have suspended his pay after just seven days.

Personnel rules for most civilian government workers allow for "indefinite suspensions" in cases "when the agency has reasonable cause to believe that the employee has committed a crime for which a sentence of imprisonment may be imposed."

Meanwhile, more than three years later soldiers wounded in the mass shooting are fighting to receive the same pay and medical benefits given to those wounded in combat.

Retired Army Spc. Logan Burnett, a reservist who, in 2009, was soon to be deployed to Iraq, was shot three times when a gunman opened fire inside the Army Deployment Center.

“I honestly thought I was going to die in that building,” said Burnett. “Just blood everywhere and then the thought of -- that's my blood everywhere.”

Burnett nearly died. He's had more than a dozen surgeries since the shooting, and says post-traumatic stress still keeps him up at night.

Burnett is now fighting a new battle; only this one is against the U.S. Army.

The Army has not classified the wounds of the Ft. Hood victims as “combat related” and declines to label the shooting a “terrorist attack”,

The “combat related” designation is an important one, for without it Burnett and other shooting victims are not given combat-related pay, they are not eligible for Purple Heart retirement or medical benefits given to other soldiers wounded either at war or during the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon.

As a result, Burnett, his wife Torey, and the families of other Fort Hood victims miss out on thousands of dollars of potential benefits and pay every year.

To Burnett the shooting felt like combat.

“You take three rounds and lose five good friends and watch seven other people get killed in front of you. Do you have another term that we can classify that as?” asked Burnett.

The Army has categorized the shooting as a case of “workplace violence.”

“Sickens me. Absolutely sickens me. Workplace violence? I don't even know if I have the words to say,” said Burnett.

"They don't need to be treated like this. They don't need to sit and fight every day for this benefit or that,” said Torey Burnett.

As that fight continues, Burnett was stunned to see a letter detailing the more $278,000 Hasan has been paid since his arrest. NBC 5 Investigates received the letter from the Department of Defense in response to a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

"There have been times when my wife and I cannot afford groceries. We cannot afford gas in our car,” Burnett said. “Literally, times where we ate Ramen noodles for weeks on end. This [that Hasan is still earning a paycheck] makes me sick to my stomach,” said Burnett.

Burnett isn’t alone in his outrage.

“We're giving the defendant in this case every benefit of the doubt. But yet we're not giving the benefits to the victims,” said Rep. Thomas Rooney (R) Florida Rooney, a former prosecutor at Fort Hood, recently signed a bi-partisan letter urging defense secretary Chuck Hagel to "...reclassify the victims' deaths and injuries as 'combat related'..."

The letter said the current situation has "...resulted in an embarrassing lack of care and treatment for the victims and their families."

“What happened here is not a case of workplace violence. What happened here was an attack on our military by a terrorist element specifically targeting our military, which just so happened to be in the United States of America,” said Rooney.
