The images pouring out of Afghanistan right now via social media as Kabul falls to the Taliban are simply horrifying. Hundreds of people flooding the airport in Kabul, desperate to escape. Men who were clinging to the landing gear of a U.S. Airforce plane falling to their death as it took off in a scene gut-wrenchingly reminiscent of people plummeting from the burning Twin Towers. 

The wild-eyed looks of terror on those left behind, many of whom had worked with coalition forces for years and knew they were about to pay for it with their lives--and that there would likely be no rescue.

I don't have any unique or insightful take on the withdrawal from Afghanistan and whether it was strategically necessary--although surely it didn't have to come to this. Surely allies could have been evacuated and rescued and not left to die. 

But the historic scenes we are witnessing right now are destined to be iconic, and this human tragedy with a thousand faces looks and feels like the end of an era. According to Mark Steyn, once a staunch advocate of the War on Terror, we are watching America's Suez moment unfold live on the Internet.

It was all so different in October of 2001, when despite the fresh horror of 9/11 America seemed as if she was at the height of her strength. The American war machine pounded Afghanistan with the grief and righteous rage of a wounded superpower, and the live footage was an awe-inspiring thing to behold. 

In those first days, the new conflict seemed to snap things back into focus for a moment, bringing us back to the clarity we'd lost with the end of the Cold War. They were the bad guys. We were the good guys. Civilization was fighting barbarism again. All was right with the world.

I followed it all obsessively, cutting out articles and putting them in an album to track the War on Terror as coalition forces from over forty countries cut drove the Taliban into their caves. I remember one photo essay in TIME that affected me deeply, of a handful of Northern Alliance troops beating a wounded Taliban fighter, shoving him onto the road, and emptying a Kalashnikov into his chest. 

Queasiness with the realities of war, however, were easily neutralized by the nationalist machismo that accompanied it. Country singers contributed catchy anthems that everyone listened to: Toby Keith alone had "The Taliban song," "American Soldier," and "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue." (Listened to with hindsight, these songs are truly bitter historical artifacts.)

I know quite a few guys who served in Afghanistan. One friend who did a tour brought me an Iraqi banknote with Saddam's face on it that he'd gotten from an American who'd served first in Iraq, the second front in the War on Terror. After Remembrance Day parades on November 11, I sometimes joined them at the Legion Hall, where soldiers would end up drinking beers and reminiscing. 

There was always a photo or two of young men killed in action set up on the tables, and their buddies would put beers in front of them, masking their grief with booze and bitter jokes. On one of these afternoons, a solider went missing and his buddies realized he'd gone alone to the cemetery to visit one of the fallen. "We're going to the grave! Who's coming?" someone bellowed, and there was a mass rush to the exit.

And what was all of their sacrifice for? The deaths, the PTSD, the missing limbs, the untold scores of suicides? In a brutal, bitter column, one veteran of the Afghan conflict says it meant nothing at all--and that all she feels is grim relief as the world faces what many veterans already knew to be true.

But the fact is that these hellish scenes of desperation do mean something. To an Afghan schoolgirl, Mark Steyn wrote recently, this is about the fall of Kabul. But for everyone else--for NATO nations, for China, for Iran, for allies and enemies--this is about the fall of America. 

Can you imagine being a citizen of Taiwan and watching this unfold live on Twitter right now? Watching the terrified Afghans flee from the incoming tyrants reminds them that Communist China is coming for them as surely as they came for Hong Kong, and that when they do, there will be nobody to save them. The cavalry will not arrive. The age of American Empire is over. Nation-building may well be an exercise in futility. 

But the fact remains that for millions of people around the world, the realization will be setting in that they are truly alone.

As Mark Steyn mused grimly:

But don't for a moment think this is just some rushed, bungled, memo-incinerating abandonment of the US embassy. State Department diplomats have been preparing this move all summer, under cover of a highly sophisticated deflection operation on their Kabul Twitter feed:

I do hope they've managed to evacuate the embassy's LGBTQWERTY flag before the sacking commences.

America is not "too big to fail": It's failing by almost every metric right now. The world-record brokey-brokey-brokeness manifested by the current spending bills is only possible because the US dollar is the global currency. When that ends, we're Weimar with smartphones. Clearly, Chairman Xi and his allies occasionally muse on the best moment to yank the dollar out from under...A decade or so back, I quoted Bernard Lewis:

I was on a panel with the great Bernard Lewis a couple of years ago - actually six or seven years ago - and Bernard said that the danger here is that America risks being seen as harmless as an enemy, and treacherous as a friend... It's a very dangerous lesson to teach the planet.

"Harmless as an enemy, and treacherous as a friend": a devastating indictment, and entirely correct. But it neglects the ultimate reality: the bungling superpower can inflict defeat only on itself.

 

Meanwhile, it is the Afghans who will suffer the most, long after we've all moved on. Brother Samuel, a field director for Open Doors, an organization working with persecuted Christians around the world, warned that dark times are coming under Taliban rule. 

"Secret believers in Afghanistan are especially vulnerable," he said. "Prior to Taliban rule, they already had a very difficult time living out their faith, as they had to keep it secret from their families for fear of being shunned, or worse, killed. Now that the Taliban is in power, their vulnerability increases tenfold. It would be almost impossible to be a follower of Jesus in this country. We are monitoring the situation, but this is the time for us to ask God to have mercy not only on His people but on this country as a whole."

Leaders like Canada's Trudeau had promised to rescue thousands of vulnerable Afghans, including religious minorities, but a recent report indicates that the Canadian military has been waiting for a go-ahead from the Prime Minister's Office for days--but that Trudeau and his team are instead focused on the snap election they called in an attempt to regain their parliamentary majority.

Again, I'm no expert, and so I have no idea if withdrawal was necessary or not. The experts don't seem to know, either--they promised that it would take the Taliban months to reach the capital. (At The American Conservative, Rod Dreher has been publishing scathing condemnations of the American military elites nonstop.) Most seem to agree that the exit has obviously been catastrophic, regardless of your views on the withdrawal. 

But watching the videos of Afghans racing for the airport, I thought of a 2013 event I attended with Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini, author of novels like The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, where he spoke in glowing terms about the future that was being built in Afghanistan and the opportunities now available to his countrymen--and countrywomen. That is all ending, today, as I write this.

Mistakes had been made, Hosseini said, but what had been done there had been worth doing. Today, he is "shocked" and "nauseated" as the Taliban remerges. His novels are filled with tragedy and also hope--a nation emerging from the darkness. It turns out that freedom was only a brief interlude. I wonder if he has any novels left in him.

Ominous New Definitions For What Constitutes 'Domestic Terrorism'
Are you a potential domestic terrorist?  You may not think so, but the Department of Homeland Security may see things quite differently.  A brand new terrorism advisory has just been issued, and some of the things that it identifies as "potential terror threats" should chill us to the core.  

You see, the truth is that the definition of a "terrorist" is constantly evolving.  In the old days, a Middle Eastern male that dresses in traditional Islamic attire, that grows opium in his field and that carries around an AK-47 would have been considered a "potential terrorist" by U.S. authorities.  

But now we have lost the war in Afghanistan and the Taliban are partying like it is 1999 in the presidential palace in Kabul.  As a result, our spooks need a new group of "potential terrorists" to send to Guantanamo Bay, and so they are setting their sights on you.
 
You may be tempted to think that I am exaggerating.

I truly wish that I was.

NBC News is telling us that a "terror alert" has just been issued by Homeland Security, and during their report on this new "terror alert" a very alarming graphic was shown to the viewers.

Under the heading "POTENTIAL TERROR THREATS", the following three categories were listed...

-"OPPOSITION TO COVID MEASURES"

-"CLAIMS OF ELECTION FRAUD, BELIEF TRUMP CAN BE REINSTATED"

-"9/11 ANNIVERSARY AND RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS"

We have never seen anything quite like this before.

Now "opposition to COVID measures" is something that can make you a "potential terrorist"?

Wow.

So precisely what does that mean?

Does someone become a "potential terrorist" if they speak out against masks, lockdowns or vaccines?

What about sharing information that contradicts the official narratives about COVID?  Will that make someone a "potential terrorist" as well?

If that is the case, then researchers at the Mayo Clinic may soon get hauled off to Guantanamo Bay...

Researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, found that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine - the most commonly used shot in the U.S. - was only 42 percent effective against infection, while the Moderna vaccine was only 76 percent effective in July.

For the study, published on pre-printer server medRxiv.org - meaning it has not yet been peer review - the team gathered data on more than 25,000 Minnesotans from January to July.
When Dr. Fauci was asked about that study, he quickly dismissed it as bad information.

And whatever Fauci says must be the gospel truth, because we have been told that any criticism of Fauci is an attack on science itself...

"Attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science," Fauci said Wednesday. "All of the things I have spoken about, consistently, from the very beginning, have been fundamentally based on science. Sometimes those things were inconvenient truths for people."

Some have even gone so far as to suggest that any "far-right extremists" that dare to criticize Fauci should be treated like terrorists.

So be very careful about what you say about beloved Lord Fauci.

At one time we actually had freedom of speech in America, but now those days are long gone.

Even if you don't get into trouble with the government, the big tech companies may decide to censor you into oblivion if you start saying the wrong things.

And most Americans can never actually keep up with the latest speech standards, because they are constantly in a state of evolution.

For example, earlier today I was absolutely shocked to learn that you can get banned on YouTube for offering to pray for someone that has COVID.  Apparently that can qualify as "content" that encourages people to avoid needed medical treatment...

"Content that encourages the use of home remedies, prayer, or rituals in place of medical treatment such as consulting a doctor or going to the hospital"

We really are becoming a "1984 society", and it is only going to get worse.

If your goal is to conform as much as possible, you are in luck, because the Department of Homeland Security has issued some key information guidelines for you to follow so that you can "stay safe" while you are online...

Rely on trusted sources. For situational updates on COVID-19 and stay-at-home guidelines, rely on information provided by state and local health officials, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at coronavirus.gov and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) atcisa.gov/coronavirus.

 

Think before you link. Slow down. Don't immediately click to share posts, memes, videos, or other content you see online. Some of the most damaging disinformation spreads rapidly via shared posts. Check your sources before sharing.

Be careful what you post. The information you share online can be misunderstood or repurposed via manipulation. Do a privacy check on your social media accounts and make sure you are not sharing content broadly that you mean only for close family and friends. Be aware that agents of disinformation often steal identities of real people, profile photos, and other information.

Be wary of manipulative content. Agents of disinformation are known to create or repurpose emotional videos and photos, and to use sensational terms to divide us. Be especially careful of content that attempts to make people angry or sad or create division.

In other words, embrace whatever they tell you to believe, and don't you dare share anything online that even looks like it might contradict any of their narratives.

Personally, I am stunned at how rapidly our society is changing.  As I discussed a few days ago, a bill has actually been introduced in Congress which would permanently ban those that have not been fully vaccinated from ever flying again.

Hopefully that bill never becomes a law, but the Biden administration has already pushed things way too far.  Each week we take even more steps into authoritarianism, and that should deeply alarm all of us.

If our leaders are willing to get so extreme during a relatively minor crisis like this pandemic, what are they going to do when things start getting really, really crazy?

Freedom is such a fragile and precious thing.

Previous generations of Americans understood this, and they were extremely diligent to make sure that future generations of Americans would live free too.

But now dark times are here, and if you express your love for freedom too loudly you may soon discover that authorities have identified you as a "potential terrorist" too.

Several new technologies that appear separate and unrelated will soon converge, creating a giant digital trap that will easily entice the uninformed masses.

The digital trap has already been set and globalist elites are using COVID to speed up the process of convergence. Most people will sleep-walk right into the trap, which will ultimately reduce them to a human QR code - trackable, traceable, and 100 percent dependent on Big Tech and big government for their existence.

The most imminent agenda item needed to jumpstart this system is a successful launch of digital health passports.

France, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Greece and many other nations have started mandating these passports on their citizens, many of whom are flooding into the streets to protest.

The movement toward digital health passports in the U.S. is happening more gradually but it's picking up steam.

 

In a briefing Monday, Aug. 2, Biden's Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeffrey Zients announced "it's time to impose some requirements" where COVID vaccines are concerned.

When asked for clarification on exactly what COVID rules might be implemented, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said nothing is off the table.

Are You Pro-Life? European Parliament Members Want You Labeled An 'Extremist'

A document published by a pro-abortion coalition of Members of Parliament in Europe has pointed at "religious extremist" organizations that they identify as enemies of the sexual and reproductive rights of women in the continent.
 
The report, titled "Tip of the iceberg" (108 pages) has been produced by the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (EPF) to "paint a transnational picture of the clandestine funding system which supports the anti-gender actors' deliberate strategy to roll back human rights in Europe".
 
It was published on 15 June, a week before the European Parliament voted the controversial Matic report, which promotes abortion as a "human right" across the European Union.
The document identifies 54 "anti-gender actors operating in Europe" and specifically underlines how "like-minded religious extremists" have helped "the rise of ultra-conservatism" since 2009.
 
Christian organizations in Europe blacklisted as "anti-gender religious extremists" by pro-abortion parliamentarians
 
France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Poland are identified as the European countries where the pro-life and pro-family organizations have strongest support and financial strength, but the document also tries to prove links of European conservative groups with large donors from the United States.
 
The document dedicates a section to speak about the "dark money from the US Christian right" and speaks as well about a "rain of roubles from the East" (referring to Orthodox influence of Russia).
 
The document, written by Neil Datta, the organization's secretary in Brussels, says state actors in Europe "mislead women" and "indoctrinate young people" to "limit women's and LGBTI rights".
 
Catholic networks, Eastern Orthodox groups and "minority Protestant communities" are presented as the religious base that fuels the "anti-gender mobilization" in Europe.
Christian organizations blacklisted: ECPM, ADF, BGEA
 
Among the organizations presented in the controversial document as a threat to women's rights in Europe is the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM), a platform bringing together Members of the European Parliament and parties who are committed Christians. In an interview in 2018, the General Director of ECPM, Auke Minnema, said: "Christians should be in politics for impact, not for power".
 
In response to Evangelical Focus, the ECPM said they would "not react to this report".
 
Also the Alliance Defending Freedom International (ADF) in Europe is quoted frequently by the EPF as an important actor in the area of legal advocacy. Reacting to the report, Adina Portaru, Senior Counsel in Europe, told Evangelical Focus: "While we support open debate and discussion on the topics related to our work, the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (EPF) has sought to shut down conversations about human rights through a targeted smear campaign".
 
Adina Portaru added: "ADF International is a human rights organization that protects the fundamental freedoms and promotes the inherent dignity of all people. We defend persecuted religious minorities across the globe and support the right to life. The EPF published this document in June, the known as LGBT awareness month, admitting in a press release that it was being made public ahead of the "first European Parliament Report specifically dedicated to the full range of sexual and reproductive health and rights in almost 10 years", the Matic report approved by the European Parliament on 23 June.
 
Among the two dozen large organizations listed as donors of the EPF are: the World Health Organization, the United Nations Population Fund, the European Commission, International Planned Parenthood Federation, and the Open Society Foundations.
 
A coordinated campaign?
 
This report against "anti-gender actors" in Europe published only two days after a similar blacklist about "anti-rights" actors was made public in Argentina.
 
The Argentinian report is titled "The Conservative Reaction" and has caused a socio-political and media controversy that backlashed against its authors, a group of pro-abortion journalists who had also been funded by Planned Parenthood International.
 
In this Latin American list, evangelical pastors, churches and Christian organizations were profiled and presented as "anti-democratic".

In an August 2019 article titled "Silicon Valley Censorship and the Coming Global Police State," I wrote the following: "If you love freedom and liberty, recent actions from high tech companies should have you worried. In pursuit of profit, the mega companies of Silicon Valley have created products that invade user privacy. And they easily cave to the demands of totalitarian governments." Unfortunately, recent events reveal the United States is now among those totalitarian governments.

On July 15, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced White House officials were "meeting with social media platforms" and had "increased disinformation research and tracking." She said the administration is "flagging problematic posts from Facebook that spread disinformation" and working to "connect doctors and medical professionals who are popular with their audiences with accurate information" so as to "boost trusted content." 

This is a blatant violation of every American's First Amendment right to freedom of speech. Who determines what is or isn't "disinformation?" In her words, the government does. And who determines what is or isn't "accurate information" or "trusted content?" Again, in the eyes of the Biden Administration, it's government. They are the arbiters of "correct" speech. It's their job to "protect" you from the evils of errant thoughts.

 

As if this weren't bad enough, the U.S. Surgeon General followed up with his own lecture on the dangers of free thought and how the biggest threat to our health and safety is our stubborn unwillingness to agree with him. According to Dr. Vivek Murthy, "We live in a world where misinformation poses an imminent and insidious threat to our nation's health. 

Health misinformation is false, inaccurate, or misleading information about health according to the best evidence of the time. And while it often appears innocuous on social media apps, on retail sites or search engines, the truth is that misinformation takes away our freedom to make informed decisions about our health and the health of our loved ones." 

Stop right there, and read that again. According to the Surgeon General, "misinformation takes away our freedom." No, sir. That's not true. Government suppression of free speech takes away our freedom - the exact government censorship of speech you're advocating.

He goes on, "Modern technology companies have enabled misinformation to poison our information environment with little accountability to their users. They've allowed people who intentionally spread misinformation - what we call disinformation - to have extraordinary reach. They've designed product features such as like buttons that reward us for sharing emotionally charged content, not accurate content, and their algorithms tend to give us more of what we click on, pulling us deeper and deeper into a well of misinformation."

Any freedom loving individual should find these statements both chilling and frightening. If the Surgeon General thinks disinformation has invaded the public discourse, he's free to combat that disinformation with facts and persuasive arguments. The government has no right to censor its critics. 

According to the White House and the Surgeon General, freedom of speech is such a dire threat, social media platforms should collude with government to delete any posts or content the Biden White House deems "disinformation." Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other social media platforms are more than happy to comply, and their crackdown on the evils of free speech doesn't end with public postings.

According to Politico, "Biden allied groups, including the Democratic National Committee, are also planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages." 


This means government authorities might "fact-check" future private text messages between you and your friends. Imagine being in the middle of a phone call with a friend, and the government cuts off your call because the two of you are discussing "disinformation." Most people would be outraged. Yet, that's exactly what the government is doing with this social media disinformation censorship campaign.

Free Speech is Under Assault

People have warned about this assault on free speech for years. For instance, in July 2020, over 100 writers, academics, and political and cultural activists published an open letter in Harper's Magazine on the topic of justice and open debate. The signatories were a diverse list of well-known celebrities, including J.K. Rowling, Margaret Atwood, Noam Chomsky, Salman Rushdie, Malcolm Gladwell, and Gloria Steinem. 

In their letter, the authors pointed out "the free exchange of information and ideas, the lifeblood of a liberal society, is daily becoming more constricted." They wrote the letter because the current cancel culture narrows "the boundaries of what can be said without the threat of reprisal." 

College campuses used to be open forums for free speech and radical ideas. Today, they're ground zero for the assault on free speech - a place where totalitarians silence all dissent. This dictatorial impulse is spreading from the college campus to the public discourse, leading to censorship both online and offline - from social media platforms to local school board meetings. 

The willingness of so many people to suppress free speech foreshadows the rise of a dictatorial state. Widespread support for cancel culture and the demonization of opposing points-of-view set the stage for an oppressive government willing to use violence to enforce its edicts. Ironically, many of the people who claim to be anti-fascist are the exact same people who support social media censorship of any ideas they don't like.

Cancelling People

All this is a threat to the very foundations of human freedom and liberty. In an age when social media dominates public discourse, access to these platforms is vital to get a message out. Don't believe me? Try getting your message out to a large audience without using Facebook, Twitter, Google, Apple, Amazon, YouTube, or Netflix. It's nearly impossible. If they can de-platform the sitting President of the United States (which they did to Donald Trump),
then they can de-platform you as well.

We're living in a world where the largest technology firms have more power than most totalitarian governments had in bygone eras. Since the police power of government rules over these Big Tech companies, that means governments around the world are now more powerful than they've ever been. The power and reach of Big Tech is global in nature, and they've shown their willingness to use this power to silence you.


In recent months, Big Tech has cancelled people and organizations deemed as dangerous or not sufficiently "woke." YouTube channels have been demonetized or shut down. Twitter and Facebook accounts have been suspended. Websites have been dropped by their hosting companies, and businesses have been frozen out of using PayPal, Visa, and MasterCard. 

If large corporations "cancel" you and refuse to provide you with basic services, how can you operate in the modern world? You can't. At least, not as effectively. They have the power to cancel people.

What the Bible Says

So what does the Bible say about all of this? The Bible says a time is coming when a global dictator will rule the world (Revelation 13:7). He will succeed in everything he does (Daniel 8:24). His power will be so great no one will be able to oppose him (Revelation 13:4). His control over the earth will be so complete, he'll regulate the purchase and sale of everything (Revelation 13:17). 

For most of human history, this was impossible. As this is written, it's probably still impossible. But that window of impossibility is closing fast. As technology continues to advance, every aspect of human life becomes reliant on and intertwined with digital payments and the Internet. If access to those utilities is cut off, an individual's ability to participate in modern day society is also cut off.

This sets the stage for the Antichrist to control all buy/sell transactions on the planet (Revelation 13:17) and to determine at his whim who can or cannot participate in modern society. This is precisely the type of power Big Tech firms are consolidating today. 

The Surgeon General claims this is bad because "Modern technology companies have enabled misinformation to poison our information envirnment with little accountability to their users." He's wrong. What Big Tech is doing is enabling governments to limit, censor, and trample the rights and liberties of their citizens with little accountability to the ones they aim to rule. 

This is the road to dictatorship, and I have no doubt Big Tech will be a willing participant in the establishment of the ultimate dictatorship - the Antichrist's global police state. 

All this is yet another indication of the times in which we live. Jesus said when you see all these events take place, look up (Luke 21:28). So use what little time is left to spread the Gospel, because Jesus is coming soon!

At one point in the not too distant past, this was a no brainer, with two simple choices: Male or Female. But not today, when not even Male or Female are simple.
Instead, these were the choices offered (and I quote them verbatim): "Female (including transgender women); Male (including transgender men); Prefer to self-describe as ______ (non-binary, gender-fluid, agender, please specify); None of the above."
So, not only must we be told that "female" includes men who identify as women and "male" includes women who identify as men (and who was this for, since those who identify as such will already fill out the form accordingly?). 
But we must be given examples of the various ways we can self-describe in case we needed some hints. And then, if none of that works -- which is quite mystifying, since you can fill in any self-description you want -- just say, "None of the above."

Over the past few decades, evangelical Christians have emerged as one of Israel's core bases of support both in the United States and many other countries as well. However, growing trends of secularization and liberal ideology, as well as the erosion of a pro-Israel theology, are threatening to undermine this support, particularly among young evangelicals.
A recent poll commissioned by two University of North Carolina at Pembroke professors--Mordechai Inbari and Kirill Bumin--showing a sharp drop in support for Israel among the younger set has raised some eyebrows.
It found that young evangelical support for Israel had plunged to 33.6 percent from 69 percent in a 2018 poll. Those supporting the Palestinian side rose to 24.3 percent, up from 6 percent in 2018. Those supporting neither side stood at 42.2 percent.
The poll focused on evangelicals ages 18 to 29, and was conducted between March 22 and April 2 by the Barna Group, a polling and research firm focusing on issues of faith and culture.

Two Potential Nightmare Scenarios For The US That Could Soon Become Reality

Over the past couple of years we have become accustomed to expecting the unexpected, but soon we many have to start anticipating the unthinkable.  In this article, I am going to be discussing a couple of potential scenarios that would have been unimaginable to the vast majority of Americans just a few short years ago.  

Unfortunately, our world is now changing at a pace that is absolutely breathtaking, and many things that were once "unimaginable" could soon become reality.

Let's start by talking about the record-setting heat wave which is making the epic megadrought in the western half of the country even worse.  Many western farmers planted crops this year hoping that weather conditions would eventually turn in their favor, but that has definitely not happened.  In fact, at this point 88 percent of the West is experiencing at least some level of drought.

2021 has been the worst year of this multi-year megadrought so far, and last week was the worst week for this drought up to this point in 2021.  Old temperature records were shattered all over the West, and some areas were already seeing triple digits by 8 o'clock in the morning...

The West is in the midst of a record-breaking heat wave this week, as all-time records were shattered and daily records broken in over a dozen states.

Even by desert standards, the heat wave in the Southwest is atypical. On Thursday, the National Weather Service in Tucson tweeted that the city recorded a temperature of 100 degrees at 8:14 a.m., the second earliest time in the day recorded since 1948.

That is crazy.

Can you imagine hitting triple digits before you have even finished your morning coffee?

Summer had not even officially begun yet last week, and yet new all-time record highs were being established all over the place...

Record-breaking temperatures spread from California to Montana this week. On thursday, the all-time high temperature was tied in Palm Springs, California at 123 degrees, breaking the previous June record of 122 degrees.

Salt Lake City tied its all-time record high of 107 degrees. The old record was notably set in July -- when temperatures are usually at their highest for the year in that region. This comes after daily record highs were broken Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Salt Lake, each with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

We have never seen anything quite like this in the state of Utah.

More than half of the state is in the highest level of drought, and thanks to dramatic water restrictions farmers are being forced to choose which of their crops will die...

With drastic limits placed on what little water he has, Tom Favero said he and many farmers along this west side of Weber County were forced to watch some crops die. "We've all made serious choices of what fields we can water and what we can't," Favero said.

Another Utah farmer that lost a lot of corn and an entire field of barley said that it really "hurts" to see his hard work go to waste...

Farmer Dean Martini pointed at one of his fields. "That corn there, where I can't water, I don't have the water. It makes me sick to see it go to heck like that."

With limits on amount and time, he said there wasn't enough water flowing to make it across his fields. While some of the corn dried up, he had to let a whole field of barley go too. "It hurts buddy. That hurts," Martini said.

Of course this is just the beginning.

If this summer is as hot and as dry as they are projecting, we could see catastrophic crop failures all across the West.

And that is really bad news, because the state of California alone produces more than a third of our vegetables and about two-thirds of our fruits and nuts.

A few years ago, hardly anyone would have imagined that we would be facing a crisis of this magnitude in 2021, but here we are.  Paleoclimatologist Kathleen Johnson is quite "worried" about what will happen this summer, and she is warning that this drought is shaping up to be the worst the region has experienced "in at least 1,200 years"...

I'm worried about this summer - this doesn't bode well, in terms of what we can expect with wildfire and the worsening drought. This current drought is potentially on track to become the worst that we've seen in at least 1,200 years.

Now I would like to shift gears.

 

A few years ago, hardly anyone would have imagined that we would be facing a very serious computer chip shortage in 2021.  In particular, the most sophisticated chips are really in short supply, and what most people don't realize is that "almost all" of them are made by a single company based in Taiwan...

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. chips are everywhere, though most consumers don't know it.

The company makes almost all of the world's most sophisticated chips, and many of the simpler ones, too. They're in billions of products with built-in electronics, including iPhones, personal computers and cars--all without any obvious sign they came from TSMC, which does the manufacturing for better-known companies that design them, like Apple Inc. and Qualcomm Inc.

Because manufacturing those chips is so exceedingly complicated, other companies can't just plop down new factories and start pumping out their own chips.  Business leaders in the U.S. are now planning new factories, but it could take quite a few years before they are up and running.

So even under ideal conditions, the chip shortage will not be resolved for some time.

But what happens if China invades Taiwan within the next several years?  This is something that U.S. officials were warning about earlier this month...

Concerns are growing in Washington over the possibility that China could try to invade Taiwan in the next few years.

Top U.S. military officers have warned in recent months that Beijing might try to make the explosive move this decade, and recent saber rattling, including a Chinese military amphibious landing exercise near the island, is further raising the alarm.

Can you imagine the chaos that it would cause for the global economy if the primary supply of advanced chips was suddenly cut off?

According to the Wall Street Journal, TSMC currently makes "around 92% of the world's most sophisticated chips"...

Without TSMC, the global economy as it is structured today would not be able to function.

So the fact that China is being more aggressive than ever with Taiwan should deeply alarm all of us.  For example, check out what happened just last week...

China has flown 28 warplanes into Taiwan-controlled airspace, the biggest sortie of its kind since the Taiwanese government began publishing information about the frequent incursions last year.

The flights are widely seen as part of an effort by Beijing to dial up pressure on Taiwan, a self-governed democracy of about 24 million people off the Chinese coast that the Chinese government considers a part of China.

We should have never allowed ourselves to become so dependent on foreign chips, but we did.

And now experts are telling us that the chip shortage will last into next year under the best of conditions...

Dimitris Dotis, the Audi brand specialist at Audi Tysons Corner dealership in Virginia, summed up the situation to customers. "Almost all microchips that go into all new vehicles including Audi come from TSMC in Taiwan," he wrote. "They expect bottlenecks in the supply chain to last through 2022."

Of course if China does decide to invade Taiwan, the U.S. military will respond, and that would mean no advanced chips for us for the foreseeable future.

In this article, I have shared just two potential scenarios which could soon plunge us into unthinkable nightmares.

Needless to say, there are many, many more crisis points that bear watching right now as well.

We have reached such a critical moment in our history, and I expect global events to accelerate even more as we head into the second half of 2021.

Two Potential Nightmare Scenarios For The US That Could Soon Become Reality

Over the past couple of years we have become accustomed to expecting the unexpected, but soon we many have to start anticipating the unthinkable.  In this article, I am going to be discussing a couple of potential scenarios that would have been unimaginable to the vast majority of Americans just a few short years ago.  

Unfortunately, our world is now changing at a pace that is absolutely breathtaking, and many things that were once "unimaginable" could soon become reality.

Let's start by talking about the record-setting heat wave which is making the epic megadrought in the western half of the country even worse.  Many western farmers planted crops this year hoping that weather conditions would eventually turn in their favor, but that has definitely not happened.  In fact, at this point 88 percent of the West is experiencing at least some level of drought.

2021 has been the worst year of this multi-year megadrought so far, and last week was the worst week for this drought up to this point in 2021.  Old temperature records were shattered all over the West, and some areas were already seeing triple digits by 8 o'clock in the morning...

The West is in the midst of a record-breaking heat wave this week, as all-time records were shattered and daily records broken in over a dozen states.

Even by desert standards, the heat wave in the Southwest is atypical. On Thursday, the National Weather Service in Tucson tweeted that the city recorded a temperature of 100 degrees at 8:14 a.m., the second earliest time in the day recorded since 1948.

That is crazy.

Can you imagine hitting triple digits before you have even finished your morning coffee?

Summer had not even officially begun yet last week, and yet new all-time record highs were being established all over the place...

Record-breaking temperatures spread from California to Montana this week. On thursday, the all-time high temperature was tied in Palm Springs, California at 123 degrees, breaking the previous June record of 122 degrees.

Salt Lake City tied its all-time record high of 107 degrees. The old record was notably set in July -- when temperatures are usually at their highest for the year in that region. This comes after daily record highs were broken Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Salt Lake, each with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

We have never seen anything quite like this in the state of Utah.

More than half of the state is in the highest level of drought, and thanks to dramatic water restrictions farmers are being forced to choose which of their crops will die...

With drastic limits placed on what little water he has, Tom Favero said he and many farmers along this west side of Weber County were forced to watch some crops die. "We've all made serious choices of what fields we can water and what we can't," Favero said.

Another Utah farmer that lost a lot of corn and an entire field of barley said that it really "hurts" to see his hard work go to waste...

Farmer Dean Martini pointed at one of his fields. "That corn there, where I can't water, I don't have the water. It makes me sick to see it go to heck like that."

With limits on amount and time, he said there wasn't enough water flowing to make it across his fields. While some of the corn dried up, he had to let a whole field of barley go too. "It hurts buddy. That hurts," Martini said.

Of course this is just the beginning.

If this summer is as hot and as dry as they are projecting, we could see catastrophic crop failures all across the West.

And that is really bad news, because the state of California alone produces more than a third of our vegetables and about two-thirds of our fruits and nuts.

A few years ago, hardly anyone would have imagined that we would be facing a crisis of this magnitude in 2021, but here we are.  Paleoclimatologist Kathleen Johnson is quite "worried" about what will happen this summer, and she is warning that this drought is shaping up to be the worst the region has experienced "in at least 1,200 years"...

I'm worried about this summer - this doesn't bode well, in terms of what we can expect with wildfire and the worsening drought. This current drought is potentially on track to become the worst that we've seen in at least 1,200 years.

Now I would like to shift gears.

 

A few years ago, hardly anyone would have imagined that we would be facing a very serious computer chip shortage in 2021.  In particular, the most sophisticated chips are really in short supply, and what most people don't realize is that "almost all" of them are made by a single company based in Taiwan...

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. chips are everywhere, though most consumers don't know it.

The company makes almost all of the world's most sophisticated chips, and many of the simpler ones, too. They're in billions of products with built-in electronics, including iPhones, personal computers and cars--all without any obvious sign they came from TSMC, which does the manufacturing for better-known companies that design them, like Apple Inc. and Qualcomm Inc.

Because manufacturing those chips is so exceedingly complicated, other companies can't just plop down new factories and start pumping out their own chips.  Business leaders in the U.S. are now planning new factories, but it could take quite a few years before they are up and running.

So even under ideal conditions, the chip shortage will not be resolved for some time.

But what happens if China invades Taiwan within the next several years?  This is something that U.S. officials were warning about earlier this month...

Concerns are growing in Washington over the possibility that China could try to invade Taiwan in the next few years.

Top U.S. military officers have warned in recent months that Beijing might try to make the explosive move this decade, and recent saber rattling, including a Chinese military amphibious landing exercise near the island, is further raising the alarm.

Can you imagine the chaos that it would cause for the global economy if the primary supply of advanced chips was suddenly cut off?

Israel's annual Jerusalem Day was overshadowed Monday by rocket sirens and explosions as Hamas claimed responsibility for striking the country's capital and targets across the south, while the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it bombed a number of the terrorist group's positions in the Gaza Strip in response.

By Monday night over 150 rockets had been launched from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, at least dozens of which have been intercepted by Israel, according to the IDF.

The rocket barrage towards Jerusalem and surrounding areas started just a few minutes following the expiration of an "ultimatum" by Hamas, which called for the withdrawal by the Israeli police from several areas in eastern Jerusalem and for freeing Palestinian prisoners. 

Marchers who participated in the Jerusalem Day flag parade were forced to run for cover and continued the celebration shortly after.

According to the IDF, a barrage of rockets was also being fired toward southern Israel. The IDF said that it had detected seven rockets launched from the Gaza Strip at the Jerusalem area, at least one of which was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

 In response, the IDF said it attacked a number of Hamas targets, including two rocket launchers, two military positions and eight of the terrorist group's operatives.

The Magen David Adom rescue service said Monday night it had treated 10 people for injuries resulting from missile attacks, in most cases for shock, and another 15 people for light injuries resulting from stone-throwing attacks.

Speaking at at the Jerusalem Day ceremony held at Ammunition Hill, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "We are in a struggle that is spreading across several fronts: in Jerusalem, in Gaza and elsewhere in the country. The terrorist organizations in Gaza crossed a red line on Jerusalem Day evening and attacked us with missiles at the entrances to Jerusalem."

"Israel will respond forcefully. We will not tolerate attacks on our territory, our capital, our citizens and our soldiers. Whoever attacks us will pay a heavy price," Netanyahu continued. "The current conflict may continue for some time."

Also at the ceremony, President Reuven Rivlin said that the "wail of the sirens in Jerusalem a short time ago is still with us. Repeated code red alarms that disrupt normal daily lives in the south, right now too, are putting our dear ones in the south of the country, the Gaza envelope that envelopes our whole country, into their safe rooms."

"We will not be bowed in the face of any threat. Let nobody challenge the lethal might of our forces. Do not put them to the test," Rivlin added.

Hamas said it fired rockets towards Jerusalem in response to Israeli "crimes and aggression in the Holy City, and its harassment of our people in Sheikh Jarrah and Al-Aqsa Mosque."

According to reports, a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit a house in the Judean hills. The IDF reported that an anti-tank missile was fired from Gaza toward Israel. As a result, an Israeli civilian in a nearby vehicle was lightly injured and evacuated to a hospital for further medical treatment.

According to Walla News, Israel's security cabinet gave the IDF a green light to hit targets throughout the Gaza Strip following the attacks.

"In the next few days, Hamas will feel the long arm of the [Israeli] army. It won't take a few minutes, it will take a few days," IDF Spokesperson Hidai Zilberman said.

"In Palestinian terrorism, an iron fist must be fought. Anyone who puts Israeli residents in shelters should know that he will regret it," said Israel's Defense Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday. "The Israeli government will take determined action."

"No country can allow its citizens to live under the threat of terrorism," said leader of the Israeli opposition Yair Lapid. "Israel must act resolutely and forcefully and restore deterrence in the war against the enemies of Israel."

Jerusalem has been the site of a number of days of violence as Palestinians clashed with Israeli police forces across the capital and around the Temple Mount ahead of the annual Jerusalem Day to celebrate the reunification of the city after the 1967 Six-Day War. 

This year the march coincides with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Violence had also erupted in recent days in response to the tension around the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem, where a number of Palestinian families are set to be evicted in an ongoing court case.

The White House on Monday expressed "serious concerns" about the clashes in eastern Jerusalem, with White House press secretary Jen Psaki telling reporters during a press briefing, "We are continuing to closely monitor the violence in Israel. We have serious concerns about the situation, including violent confrontations that we've seen over the last few days."

Before a Monday meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on "all sides" to "de-escalate, reduce tension and take practical steps to calm things down."

"We are very deeply concerned about the rocket attacks that we are seeing now that need to stop and need to stop immediately," he said."

Israel Has No Choice But To Act On Its Own To Stop Iran

Israeli Lawmaker Vows Support For Control Over Temple Mount, Rebuilding Temple
Freshmen Knesset member Itamar Ben Gvir (Religious Zionism) was recently sworn into the Israeli parliament on Monday.
