While Israel’s preparations for an attack on Iran have been going on for some time, the public revelation of such an attack is the first such statement any active general in the IDF has made. Why now?

Two reasons are very clear. The first is that the Gulf States and Israel want to send a message to the American administration that the USA is not needed for the strike. Furthermore, the weakness of America is what is leading the region to war, not the other way around. Biden’s visit to Israel and Saudi Arabia is what triggered the message. The administration’s weak statements and insistence that a deal is the best way to contain Iran pushed Israel and its Gulf Allies into a far more public break with America.

The second reason IDF Chief Kochavi made his statement is that Iran has finally admitted they can already make a nuclear weapon. This revelation reveals what most have known all along that the Iranian nuclear program was designed to reach a nuclear weapon. This revelation is serious and pushes the region even closer to war.

In the coming months, PM Lapid may decide that his best option for winning the election and remaining Prime Minister is an attack on Iran. If he goes forward with it, the region and the world will be entering unchartered territory – filled with chaos and turmoil for the foreseeable future.

Palestinians seeking to run Jewish drivers off the road and cause car accidents have added a new weapon to their arsenals: lasers.

While Molotov cocktail and rock-throwing attacks targeting Jewish drivers are common in Judea and Samaria, the use of high-intensity lasers to blind motorists is gaining momentum.

According to Jewish residents of the community Kochav HaShachar, locals from the nearby Palestinian village of Kafr al-Mughayir regularly aim lasers at drivers passing on the Alon Road on the outskirts of the Jewish town.

Social media footage captured by Israeli drivers shows bright green lasers being repeatedly flashed at cars, causing temporary loss of visibility.

Kochav HaShahar official Reuben Shador criticized what he said was a lack of action from the IDF in dealing with the danger.

“Every evening they blind vehicles and drivers here with lasers. Are we waiting for it to end in disaster?” he said to Israel Hayom. “The writing is on the wall. We can’t understand why the IDF is waiting.”

Shador’s sentiments were echoed by a local resident who spoke to Israel Hayom.

“This is a life-threatening danger,” the resident said. “[But] the army hands out [informational] flyers in the village instead of making arrests and dealing with the terrorists. What are they waiting for? For drivers to lose control and be dead, G-d forbid?”

In a statement to Israel Hayom, the Israeli army acknowledged that the laser-blinding attacks on motorists is an issue of concern.

“The IDF takes this phenomenon seriously and works in a variety of ways and in cooperation with the other defense forces in the area to eliminate this phenomenon,” the military said.

While attacks on Jewish drivers in Judea and Samaria largely go unreported in mainstream media, dozens of Israelis are wounded in car accidents caused by Molotov cocktail and rock attacks each year.

Israeli pop star, Yuval Dayan, sets off a firestorm. She’s just being true to herself.
US President Joe Biden extended his hand to Yuval Dayan, the popular Israeli female singer who had just finished performing "Let it Be" at Israel's Presidential Residence. But instead of shaking his hand, she smiled and curtseyed respectfully.

Dayan's very public act of religious modesty sparked intense debate on social media and made headlines in Israeli news. Some rabbis praised her for proudly and publicly upholding Jewish law, which can be interpreted as prohibiting a handshake between a woman and a man who is not her husband or a close relative. These rabbis argued Dayan served as a role model for other women.

In contrast, some feminists argued Dayan was kowtowing to a patriarchy that objectifies women's bodies. She was, said the feminists, buying in to the idea that women "ask for" sexual harassment through their behavior, even if it’s a handshake.

Dayan's take was different. "I just wanted to represent our country with dignity while remaining faithful to my values as a religious woman."

Dayan's decision to abide by the rabbinic opinions that prohibit her shaking hands with a man, even if that man is the President of the United States, seems to be part of her own search for authenticity and being true to who she is.

In a new song released last month she makes this clear. She sings of her humble beginnings and of her struggles to embrace Judaism and Jewish law despite all the temptations that accompany stardom. The song is about authenticity and being true to who you are.

Judging from her own comments and from her latest song, Dayan, whose first two albums went platinum in Israel, was not trying to make a statement about the way other women should behave, as some rabbis suggested. Nor was she obsequiously deferring to the "patriarchy." Rather, she was doing something much more down-to-earth: remaining faithful to her values and beliefs, even when social convention dictates that she should behave otherwise.

One of the main takeaways from the Me Too movement is the importance of maintaining a sense of autonomy and empowerment in the face of pressure from powerful figures or corrupt norms. Having the courage to stand up for one's beliefs and values, even when it is unpopular or objectionable to others or when one is forced to pay a price for doing so, is essential for living a moral life.

Yuval Dayan could have shaken the US president's hand. That would have been the easy way out. But Dayan stuck to her principles. She was willing to risk any subsequent fallout and controversy in order to stay true to her values. She also informed the staff of the Israeli president in advance of her commitment to her religious faith.

She might be criticized by some for taking an overly stringent position on the question of a handshake (some rabbis permit it in a situation like this) or for her purported deference to those who claim that a woman is to blame if she is sexually harassed. But many, including myself, respect her for being authentic and true to herself.

President Biden’s visit to Israel
US President Joe Biden spent the last two days in Israel. In his public statements he has heaped praise on the bilateral relationship and highlighted his strong personal affinity to Israel. Here’s the latest update on his visit from our friends at BICOM:
 
Biden is the seventh US president to visit Israel since Richard Nixon (who was the first) in 1974.
This was Biden’s tenth visit since first coming in 1973 as a young senator.
At the opening ceremony, Biden reiterated his proud identity as a Christian Zionist.
His trip included an emotional visit to Yad Vashem, where he broke protocol, kneeling to talk for several minutes to two elderly Holocaust survivors.
 
Iranian threat top agenda item:
Following the arrival ceremony, Biden was given a presentation of Israel’s multi-tiered defence systems, including the “Iron Beam” high-power laser interception system. 
He was also presented with new sensitive and classified information that Iran is developing new weapons systems, and proliferating them among their regional proxies.
Defence Minister Benny Gantz presented President Biden with a list of security agreements, some of which were recently signed, between Israel and Arab countries that do not have formal diplomatic relations .
Israel would like the US to apply pressure so that those agreements are made public.
In the working meeting yesterday between Prime Minister Lapid and President Biden and their teams, the Prime Minister thanked the President for his decision not to remove Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps from the US list of terrorist organisations.
Lapid also emphasised his opposition to returning to the JCPOA nuclear agreement and the need to intensify the pressure on Iran so that it will return to the negotiating table to discuss an alternative agreement.
Later at the joint press conference, Biden reiterated his belief in the diplomatic process.  Lapid responded saying: “Words will not stop them, Mr. President. Diplomacy will not stop them. The only thing that will stop Iran is knowing that if they continue to develop their nuclear programme the free world will use force. The only way to stop them is to put a credible military threat on the table … the Iranian regime must know that if they continue to deceive the world, they will pay a heavy price.”
 
Jerusalem Declaration: The two leaders signed a new US-Israel Strategic Partnership Joint Declaration. The document confirms:
“The enduring commitment of the United States to Israel’s security. Our countries further reaffirm that the strategic US-Israel partnership is based on a bedrock of shared values, shared interests, and true friendship … unwavering commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the calling of “Tikkun Olam,” repairing the world.
The document consolidates the, “Unshakeable US commitment to Israel’s security, and especially to the maintenance of its qualitative military edge, the United States reiterates its steadfast commitment to preserve and strengthen Israel’s capability to deter its enemies and to defend itself by itself against any threat or combination of threats.
“The United States stresses that integral to this pledge is the commitment never to allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon, and that it is prepared to use all elements of its national power to ensure that outcome.”
 
Palestinian issue: Today President Biden is visiting a hospital in East Jerusalem, where he is expected to announce an increase in US aid. 
He will then meet Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem. 
In part of the Jerusalem Declaration, signed yesterday, President Biden reaffirmed “his longstanding and consistent support of a two-state solution and for advancing toward a reality in which Israelis and Palestinians alike can enjoy equal measures of security, freedom and prosperity. The United States stands ready to work with Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and regional stakeholders toward that goal. The leaders also affirm their shared commitment to initiatives that strengthen the Palestinian economy and improve the quality of life of Palestinians.”
Biden’s meeting with Abbas is expected to lead to several announcements of economic benefits for the Palestinians, including the introduction of 4G cellular network to the West Bank and Gaza.
Among other measures, Israel is considering allowing West Bank Palestinians to travel abroad from Ramon International Airport near Eilat. The plan would call for Palestinians to travel to the airport via a secure passageway. Kan News suggested that the deal is contingent on the PA dropping their charges against Israel at the International Criminal Court.
 
Israel – Saudi Arabia: President Biden flies directly from Israel to Saudi Arabia later today.  There is optimism of steps being taken towards normalisation.   
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Aviation Authority announced that they will open its airspace to planes from all carriers, including Israeli airlines.
Israel has also given formal approval yesterday to the agreement with the US, Saudi Arabia and Egypt regarding two uninhabited islands Tiran and Sanafir at the bottom of the Red Sea. The final hurdle was Israeli consenting to the international observers moving to a new location on the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula and replacing them with cameras on the island. The US will also continue to ensure freedom of navigation for Israeli ships in the Straits of Tiran.
 
Inaugural meeting of new international forum: Also yesterday, Prime Minister Lapid and President Biden participated in virtual meeting of the I2U2 together with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The meeting focused on mutual economic cooperation for the benefit of the entire region in many fields, including infrastructure, medicine, food security challenges, and energy.

Ahead of U.S. President Joe Biden’s arrival in Israel on Wednesday, senior Israeli officials said on Tuesday that during his visit, the two countries will formalize what one official called “the Jerusalem Declaration on the U.S.-Israel Strategic Partnership.”

The Declaration, the official said, will be a framework for the bilateral relationship between Israel and the United States and will include a “regional component.” The document “is going to be a living testimony to the unique quality, health, scope, depth and intimacy of the U.S.-Israeli relationship,” the official added, and “shows in the clearest terms possible” the relationship’s unique nature.

The declaration will officially outline in writing the common values of the two nations and aspects of regional security both agree on and that have been status quo for years.

While these concepts are not novel, this would be the first such declaration between the two nations in decades.

The declaration includes a section in Iran, which the official said makes a clear stand against Iran’s aggression in the region and commits to both nations using their national power against the Iranian nuclear threat.

Another section speaks of the importance of American assistance as an “anchor of regional stability” and expresses the need for a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding to better address emerging threats and new realities in the region.

“It’s a unique testimony to the holistic nature of what we have been doing in the last decades, but also [in some instances] a blueprint for the U.S.-Israel relationship for the next couple of years,” one official said.

The officials also spoke about the Israeli government’s hopes for the effect Biden’s visit will have on further cooperation between Israel and its Arab neighbors in the wake of the Abraham Accords. The officials praised the ongoing American leadership with regard to normalization efforts, and said that they are encouraged by the commitment demonstrated by the United States to transforming the region.

“We believe that we created a genuine regional partnership, of which the U.S. is an integral part but of which the states of the region are also equal and responsible members and partners,” an official noted.

The officials said the new partnerships have benefitted regional security collaborations, and that beyond the new relationships with allies within the Abraham Accords, the Accords have also positively influenced Israel’s long standing relationships with Egypt and Jordan, allowing for more joint projects and programs to be developed and progress.

According to one of the officials, an announcement is also expected to be made during Biden’s visit regarding a “new stage of cooperation on technology that will touch on a wide spectrum of fields.” There will also be “discussions” on accelerating the process of including Israel in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, the officials said.

The visit will be Biden’s 10th to Israel (though his first as president), and the officials noted his decades of support for the Jewish state, which they said the Israeli government very much recognizes and cherishes.

While the visit will focus on shared goals, the officials will also discuss differences with their American counterparts, including Israel’s belief that American attempts to re-enter the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran have run their course, and that even if something is agreed upon it will be a short-term solution with few benefits and many strategic and economic drawbacks.

“Iran is continuing to violate its obligations and continues to deceive the international community,” one official said. “Our basic position is that Iran is playing for time and as long as Iran believes that time is on its side, they will not give in and will not make any concessions. This has been our approach for many months now. Time has run out on JCPOA, and it is crucial to exert pressure on Iran” now, or else the region will have to face the consequences tomorrow, the official added.

The officials noted that the United States has in recent months taken steps that are more in alignment with what Israel would like to see, including signaling that it was not willing to remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO)—which the Iranian regime is demanding in the nuclear negotiations—leading in delivering a resolution against Iran during a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s board of governors and recently designating more Iranian entities as FTOs.

Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia, and the fact that he will be flying to Jeddah from Israel, is viewed very positively by Israel, according to the officials, who without going into detail said that gradual steps were being made in regard to Israel’s relationship to the kingdom.

“Let me start by saying that—and this has been the Israeli view for many years—we cannot imagine the full transformation of the Middle East without having normalized relationship between Israel and all of its neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia,” an official said, adding that Biden flying from Israel directly to Saudi Arabia “encapsulates a lot of the dynamics that have been evolving over the last months.”

“We are hoping and acting so that the steps taken now will only be the beginning, and that this will be the start of the process of normalization between the countries,” the official said. “We want to fully support and also bless the coming together of the American administration and Saudi Arabia. We believe that this is important for the United States, this is important for Israel and this is important for the security of the region.”

The presidential visit to the US’s strongest ally in the Middle East will last less than 48 hours and include several blatant snubs aimed at distancing Israel while exhibiting the Biden administration’s belief that “Palestine” is the dominant political entity in the region. This will be Biden’s tenth visit to Israel but his first as president. 

 Biden’s visit will begin on Wednesday morning at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, where he will be greeted by Prime Minister Yair Lapid and President Isaac Herzog, with Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett possibly speaking as well. But rather than an auspicious affair that is usually held for visiting dignitaries, the event will be rather subdued, as per Biden’s request. Some speculation about the unusual condition suggests that the heat may be a factor as Biden is 79 years old. 

Others suggest that his concern was over impromptu grandstanding, such as what took place during Trump’s airport ceremony when MK Oren Hazan jumped in for a selfie with the president.

But in addition to snubbing Israeli officials, a previously scheduled tour of Israeli security systems with Defense Minister Benny Gantz at Palmachim air force base in central Israel will now also be held at Ben Gurion Airport. 

The White House has also informed the Prime Minister’s Office that due to concerns about COVID-19, Biden will not shake hands with Israeli ministers or MKs who greet him upon arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport on Wednesday.

 
After that, Biden scheduled to visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem for a brief tour. Citing unnamed sources, Channel 12 News reported Monday that this stop had not yet been locked in.

A Gala Evening in honor of the president’s visit on Tuesday evening will be attended by the U.S. Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides and Mayor of Jerusalem Moshe Lion.

On Thursday morning, Biden will hold a meeting with Lapid, after which the two will deliver statements to the press. This will be followed by a meeting with Isaac Herzog, the president of Israel. Biden will hold a short meeting with opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu. This was added to the schedule last month to avoid the perception that the Biden administration was interfering with the Israeli elections that are scheduled for November 1

Biden is scheduled to finish the day by giving an address at the opening ceremony of the Maccabiah Jewish Olympic games, though this is also reportedly open to change.

On Friday, Biden is going to visit Augusta Victoria hospital in the eastern section of Jerusalem. The hospital is run by the Palestinian Authority, and the visit is seen as tacit support of a Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem. This will mark the first time a sitting US president has visited a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

Axios reported on Monday that Israeli Ministry of Health officials spoke to U.S. officials on Sunday and asked if Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz or a lower-level Israeli health official could join Biden’s visit to the hospital.

“The Israeli officials told Axios that Biden administration officials rejected the request, saying it is a ‘private visit, not a political one,” Axios reported. “The Israeli government didn’t like the U.S. response. A senior Israeli official told Axios that this is a matter of Israeli sovereignty.”

“Also, on Sunday, Israeli national security adviser Eyal Hulata held a meeting about the U.S. request that Israel give assistance to the Palestinian hospitals in East Jerusalem. According to Israeli officials, the Israeli Ministry of Health favored and proposed giving $5 million to the hospitals. Officials from the Ministry of Justice and Foreign Ministry also supported the move.”

In  2018, the Trump administration cut $25 million for the hospitals in East Jerusalem as part of a move to slash aid after the Palestinian Authority cut off talks with the Trump administration over its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

At the hospital, Biden is expected to meet with Palestinian civil society activists, according to Israeli officials. Biden is also expected to announce during the visit $100 million in U.S. assistance to the Palestinian hospitals’ network in East Jerusalem, Axios reported on Sunday.

Im Tirtzu CEO Matan Peleg responded, saying, ” We call for the Government of Joe Biden to stop this insult to sovereignty and independence. America does not have many friends across the world, and with Israel has always had a true and loyal partnership.”

Biden will then travel to Bethlehem for a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, after which he will announce a number of steps that both the US and Israel plan to take to strengthen the Palestinian Authority.
After his meeting with Abbas, Biden will travel directly to Saudi Arabia, where he is scheduled to attend the GCC+3 summit on Saturday with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council, including representatives from Qatar, Jordan, and Iraq.

In anticipation of US President Joe Biden’s upcoming visit to Israel on Wednesday, the pro-settlement NGO Regavim launched a campaign aimed at the commander in chief, warning him against negotiating the land of Israel.
The official flyer reads:
Don’t sell us out!
Israel’s security and sovereignty aren’t bargaining chips!
Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley are Israel’s most vital existential interests.
They’re not for sale.
Regavim released a statement imploring both Biden and interim Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid to avoid negotiating Judea and Samaria for personal gain writing:
President Biden: Don’t exploit Israel’s unstable political landscape to extract historic concessions from an interim government that may be tempted to pay an enormously high price to shore up their election prospects.

Prime Minister Lapid: Don’t sell out our national interests for photo-ops with visiting dignitaries who have agendas of their own.

The itinerary of President Biden’s visit, scheduled for 13-14 July, includes several things that are tremendously problematic for Israel’s sovereignty and security:

A first-of-its-kind visit by a US President to East Jerusalem without any Israeli presence or accompaniment, signaling that our capital is divided between two independent sovereigns, constituting a substantive violation of US law, Israeli law, and diplomatic protocol;
Solidifying Israeli agreement to a Palestinian Authority presence at the Allenby Border Crossing, signaling joint sovereignty and authority over our border and the secession of our control and sovereignty over the Jordan Valley;
Official recognition of the upgraded status of the Palestinian Affairs Office as a de facto embassy to Palestine in West Jerusalem, with an eye towards opening a full embassy in the East Jerusalem consular building, shut down by the Trump Administration.
Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley are Israel’s most vital existential interests.
They’re not for sale.
As Biden touches down in the Jewish State, major highways and central arteries in Israel will be closed on Wednesday. On Friday, more roads will be closed when Biden flies from Bethlehem to Ben-Gurion Airport via helicopter.

Last Thursday, Regavim, an NGO that monitors illegal Arab construction, reported that a Canadian general accompanied by a delegation including two uniformed military personnel toured a structure built illegally by Arabs on land belonging to the religious Jewish community of Maon in the southern Hebron hills. While there, the Canadian military delegation met with officials from the Palestinian Authority. 

The structure was built overnight in Area C, under complete Israeli civilian and security control according to the 1995 Oslo Agreements on land designated for agricultural use by Maon. Residents of Maon alerted the Israeli security administration about the illegal construction while it was underway but to no avail.

Area C includes more than 100 Jewish settlements with an estimated population of more than 400,000 Jewish Israelis. The Coordinator of Government Operations in the Territories in 2012 estimated the number of Arabs living in Area C at 90,000, noting that it was about 3% of the Arab residents of Judea and Samaria. The Palestinian Authority has been engaged in a massive building effort in Area C in blatant violation of the Oslo Accords to take over the region. Much of the illegal Palestinian building is being funded by European sources.

Regavim reported that between 2019 and 2021, the Arabs built 5,097 new illegal structures in areas under the full control of the State of Israel. The total number of illegal Arab buildings in Area C is 72,274. During the same period, Palestinians illegally appropriated  7,125 dunams of land, bringing the total to 93,071 dunams, meaning that Israel is rapidly losing lands in Area C to illegal construction projects executed by the PA.

According to the residents, the IDF Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories has pledged to enforce the law in the area, but this has not been done so far. The Canadian delegation was also hosted by the Central Command Chief, General Yehuda Fox, meaning that its presence in the area is known and sanctioned by IDF officials.

The Arabs have been aided by anti-Israel groups and Palestinian Authority agents.

The Canadian military personnel was part of Operation PROTEUS, Canada’s contribution to the Office of the United States Security Coordinator (USSC). Other countries contributing to PROTEUS are the Netherlands, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. According to its website, PROTEUS was established to meet U.S. commitments under the Middle East Roadmap for Peace with the stated purpose “to help the Palestinian Authority Security Forces (PASF) build their capacity.”

The Roadmap for Peace was advanced by President George W. Bush in 2003 to counter the Intifada. The PA accepted it, but in the face of ongoing Palestinian violence, the Roadmap was rejected by the Israeli government and was never implemented. 

When contacted by The Jewish Press, the Canadian Embassy responded that they were acting on the instructions of the United States’ State Dept. 

The Canadian delegation also met with leaders from Surif, located 25 kilometers northwest of the city of Hebron near the settlement of Karmei Zur in Gush Etzion. The Arab delegation alleged that Jewish settlers had attacked them. The alleged attack was reported in November 2021. Another alleged attack in March came in the wake of a Palestinian terrorist attack in Hadera that killed two Israeli policemen.
Surif is a known hotbed of terrorists. In 2005, a senior Hamas leader was captured by the IDF in the town, and one year later, a terrorist cell of four men was captured. 

Regavim’s CEO Meir Deutsch criticized the visit by the Canadians:

“Imagine if IDF Chief of Staff Kochavi were to walk around the Canadian border wearing a uniform with ranks on his shoulder and reinforcing criminal border smugglers,” Deutsch said. “Is Canada planning to start a war with Israel?”

“We call today on the foreign ministry to summon the Canadian Ambassador for a reprimand and demand that it be made clear that such an intervention is a fatal blow to international relations. Such gross interference is insane,” Deutsch said.

Naomi Kahn, director of Regavim’s international division, explained why the Israeli government allows this international influence to support illegal Palestinian activity.

“Israel acquiesces to PROTEUS interference because they have access to Gaza and can do things Israel cannot,” Khan said. “This happens quite a bit with international observers siding with the enemies of Israel. In this case, visiting illegal structures is outside of the Canadian mandate and a violation of Israeli sovereignty. The state of Israel should behave like a sovereign nation and demand to be treated like a sovereign nation.” 

“There is one easy solution,” Khan said. “After the victory in 1967, the state of Israel refrained from extending Israeli law and sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. We were afraid of our own strength. Israel has put a lot of energy into extending its hand in peace, but the Palestinians have refused it time after time. We need to express our sovereignty over these regions. If in the future, there is a good faith expression by the Palestinians for a peace agreement, we can relinquish territory. But keeping them in limbo and allowing the Palestinians to do what they want is not going to bring peace and will only lead to more violence.”

A woman of boundless energy and devotion, Yehudis Schamroth has been helping lone soldiers for years, earning her the title of the unofficial mother of the IDF lone soldiers and a Guardian of Israel.
Yehudis Schamroth is many things to many people. She practices alternative medicine and is an experienced acupuncturist and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). But a surprisingly large group of lone soldiers know her as their unofficial “savta” (grandmother).officially an Israel365 Guardian of Israel, 

Yehudis began her career as an IDF mother with her own son. 

“I saw how much goes into taking care of a soldier,” Yehudis said. “Suddenly, doing his laundry and cooking his favorite food took on an entirely new dimension. I made sure that he made it to the train on time.”

Every Israeli knows how difficult it is to be a soldier in the IDF. After a physically and emotionally grueling week in army fatigues, soldiers are generally given half a day on Friday to travel home, a full day on Shabbat to recuperate, and are expected back on base Sunday morning. During that time, they are expected to launder their uniforms and carry out any personal chores. This is when ‘eema’ (mother) and ‘abba’ (father) are a vital part of the IDF, feeding and caring for their sons and daughters in uniform. For most IDF soldiers, a home-cooked meal and a clean uniform are just a bus ride away. 

But lone soldiers are alone. They are typically new immigrants, unfamiliar with the language, and find simple tasks difficult. They have no friends, family, or community to call on for help.

That is where Yehudis steps in. When Yehudis began to meet loan soldiers, she couldn’t stand idle and not help.

“They volunteer and leave their homes to serve and protect us,” she said. “And they never ask for help or anything in return. They deserve to have a little extra care and attention.”

If they need something, she helps connect them with organizations that can help. Yehudis has been helping lone soldiers for years and in the meantime, several praiseworthy organizations have been established that help lone soldiers. But Yehudis provides the personal touch. If the soldier needs a ride to the bus or help to navigate the complex bureaucracy of Israel, she helps. And if they need a warm shoulder to cry on, she is there.

“I try to make their lives easier,” Yehudis said simply. “They might need a ride to the doctor or to the bank. Or they might need help sewing their patches on. There is no end to the little things that a mother or father usually does but these boys are on their own.”

Lone soldiers are a phenomenon unique to the IDF. In addition to young Israeli men and women who are required to serve, another 7,000 young men and women come from overseas to serve in the Israeli army.

They are highly motivated and idealistic with about 40% of them serving in combat units and almost one-quarter of these lone soldiers come from the US. During the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict, three lone soldiers were killed, two from the US.

The pandemic hit lone soldiers especially hard. With international travel shut down, most of them did not see their families for over a year.  Yehudis helped organize a “non-fourth of July barbecue” and a “giving thanks dinner.” 

“Not all of the soldiers are from the US so we don’t make it exclusively American,” Yehudis said. “But these are the times when people usually are with their families. These are the times that the lone soldiers really miss their families.”

When Yehudis first began, she was known by the soldiers as the ‘minadevet eema’ (the volunteer mother) but lately, that has morphed into ‘mitnadevet savta’ (volunteer grandmother), a title that Yehudis doesn’t care for but one she is proud of. In truth, it is difficult to imagine referring to anyone with her energy and optimism as a grandmother so the title is more a reflection of the soldier’s needs than of her age. 

In conjunction with Yeshivat Lev Hatorah in Bet Shemesh, Yehudis helps look after 40 lone soldiers. Yehudis is also a regular volunteer at a snack stand at Gush Etzion Junction that serves soldiers. The stand is run by volunteers and the snacks are free to all soldiers in uniform. Homemade cakes and cookies are provided along with hot and cold beverages. 

It should be noted that Gush Etzion Junction, a busy section of the road about halfway between Jerusalem and Hebron, is a frequent target of terrorists. The soldiers who serve in the area, which includes the Cave of the Patriarchs, are under incredible stress, working hard to protect the Jews in the region.

Unofficially, Yehudis is involved with prayer groups. 

“No one knows how to pray like the mother of a soldier,” Yehudis said. “The women of Bet Shemesh had a gathering once and when we introduced ourselves, some women had four or five children in the IDF. There aren’t enough hours in the day for one mother to pray for five sons in combat units.”

Yehudis also helped with girls doing national service who do not have families in Israel.

The “Palestinian” PM Muhammad Shtayyeh reached a new level of spreading false and defamatory information against Israel, when he claimed on PA TV that Israel conducts experiments on the “corpses of suspected Palestinian terrorists.”

“We have learned that Israel uses these corpses in the labs of medical schools in Israeli universities. This is a brazen assault on human rights and scientific ethics,” Shtayyeh claimed. The “Palestinian” PM provided no evidence to support his claim.

Shtayyeh demanded that universities from around the world freeze their connections with Israeli universities engaged in the “experiments.”

Israel’s Foreign Ministry responded with the following:

A Syrian man was killed on Wednesday in a targeted Israeli strike west of the village of Hader near the border with Israel, according to Syrian state media.

Farid Fuad Mustafa was hit near his home in the village of Hader by a guided missile launched from the direction of the Israeli Golan Heights, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Hader is located on the edge of the Golan Heights demilitarized zone, directly across from the Israeli Druze village of Majdal Shams.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, Mustafa was part of a group of Syrian and Hezbollah operatives that collected intelligence for the purpose of planning terror attacks against Israel.

Other Israeli media reports claimed he was instrumental in helping Assad regime forces quell opposition unrest in southern Syria.

The Israel Defense Forces did not comment on the reports.

Also on Wednesday, the IDF revealed that in addition to the three Hezbollah UAVs shot down on Saturday, a fourth Hezbollah UAV was also shot down, over Lebanese waters, on June 29.

The drone was shot down “at a significant distance from the maritime border,” the IDF said in a statement. Like the three other downed drones, this UAV, too, “did not pose a threat or danger,” according to the IDF.

While Iran has not reached that point of control over the Red Sea – its growing presence is dangerous to Israel in other ways. Its proxy group, the Houthis in Yemen have countless ballistic missiles and assassin drones meant to attack Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Iranian vessels can also cause havoc on Israeli and Saudi shipping in the gulf thus damaging global oil and gas supplies, causing problems in global energy supplies, already experiencing increased disruption and a dramatic rise in energy prices..

Near the Gihon spring in the City of David, a stone slab bearing a curse was discovered. The curse is inscribed on a rectangular stone tablet 26.7 cm wide and 20.8 cm long. The edges of the stone have only been partially preserved. Still, the inscription has been found in its entirety, and its preservation is excellent.

The stone slab was discovered by Eli Shukron, who conducted the excavation near the Gihon Spring area in 2010. In these excavations, a temple and a pillar were also unearthed.

This monumental inscription has been deciphered by Prof. Gershon Galil, Head of the Institute for Biblical Studies and Ancient History, Israel, and the Department of Jewish History and Biblical Studies at the University of Haifa.

The inscription is a curse against the “Governor of the City” of Jerusalem (שר העיר) prepared by his opponents. It consists of 20 words and 63 letters in the ancient Proto-Canaanite script, similar to the Proto-Sinaic script, and may be dated to the end of the Middle Bronze Age II or the Late Bronze Age.

The stone slab, which dates to the end of the Middle Bronze Age IIB or the Late Bronze Age, is deliberately perforated, with about ten holes arranged in a round outline that resembles the shape of a head.

The holes were drilled inside the limestone but are not visible on the other side of the board. They were performed as a symbolic act, a kind of voodoo ceremony, intended to harm the governor of the city of Jerusalem against whom the inscription was composed.

The inscription indicates a conflict that probably broke out between the “governor of the city,” who was the most senior official of the King of Jerusalem at the time – a kind of “prime minister,” and other priests or officials of the king of Jerusalem, perhaps about economic or personal issues such as levies, temple grants, etc.

Conflicts between the governor and the city residents appear in a few places in the Bible, for example, in the story of Abimelech (Judg. 9). Many conflicts between Assyrian officials are also attested in Neo-Assyrian records.

The title “governor of the City” (שר העיר) appears on a few seal impressions in a similar spelling, on inscriptions 2.4-2.6 from Kuntillet ‘Ajrud and is also mentioned several times in the Bible (2 Kings 22: 26; 23: 8; 2 Chronicles 34: 8).

The use of mater lectionis in the Jerusalem stone inscription and other ancient inscriptions was not uniform, as evidenced by the Ugaritic texts. In the Jerusalem stone inscription, only ’arur is written in plane spelling, not the other words.

Curses and cursing ceremonies are well known from the Egyptian execration texts written on pottery sherds or figurines from the Bronze Age (esp. the 20th-19th centuries BCE), which also mention the King of Jerusalem; as well as from magical ceremonies held against the Lamashtu in Mesopotamia. The Egyptian execration texts include references to enemy cities and kings in Canaan. These personal names and toponyms were written on pottery sherds or figurines, which were deliberately smashed to cause damage to the enemies of Egypt and to bring about the annihilation of the cursed Canaanite rulers.

Prof. Galil noted that: “The new inscription proves that Jerusalem was not only a fortified city but also a vital cultural and cultic center, where excellent scribes and sophisticated magicians managed to write this important monumental inscription, as well as hold voodoo ceremonies.” Prof. Galil also pointed out that, “being the earliest known inscription of this sort in Canaan, it must have served as a model for other writers and priests in later periods and in different places in the land.”

According to Eli Shukron, who led the excavation: “This is an important find as it helps to date the finds near the Gihon Spring to the Middle Bronze Age IIb.” He also added that: “Additional data unearthed in this area indicate that the mighty fortifications near Gihon existed continuously until the Eighth century BCE, and testify to the strength and resilience of Canaanite and Israelite Jerusalem, in the Middle/Late Bronze age, as well as in the 10th century, after King David turned the city into the capital of the Israeli Great Empire. In the days of David and Solomon, it was a fortified city and included walls (near the Gihon) whose height was preserved to a height of eight meters and a width of 3.5 meters.”

The Palestinian Authority (PA) has commandeered another archeological site in Samaria, converting it into a “Palestinian Heritage Site,” and prompting one watchdog to warn of an irreversible loss of Israeli history and culture.

The archeological site of Sheikh Sha’ala, located in Area A under full PA control in Samaria, was recently redecorated with a huge mast flying a Palestinian flag.

Farmers prepared agricultural plots and a summer house was built, without regard to the archeological findings irreversibly damaged.

The meaning of the name “Sheikh Sha’ala” in Arabic is owner or lord of the flame, implying that this is the biblical site at which fire came down and burned the messengers of Ahaziah king of Israel who came to Elijah the prophet, as described in the Book of Kings II.

The site overlooks all of ancient Samaria, the capital of the kings of Israel during the First Temple period.

The site has an ancient structure with a Greek inscription from the 4th century CE, the Byzantine period in the Land of Israel, which tells of the magnificent building erected on the site in memory of Elijah the Prophet. “Help Stephen … who built this wonderful house for Elijah the prophet,” the dedication reads.

The floor of the building dates to the 6th century CE. The building incorporates Crusader and Muslim motifs. The building was used in the Byzantine period through the Crusader period and was then abandoned.

Shomrim Al Hanetzach (Preserving Eternity), a watchdog group dedicated to protecting Israel’s archaeological treasures, discovered recently the significant damage to the ancient remains at the site.

In addition to the summer house and agricultural plots that were prepared with heavy machines, vandals scrawled graffiti on the Byzantine-era dedication plaque affixed at the site by the builder of the house in honor of Elijah.

The PA has announced it has further plans for development at the site.

The PA damaging of heritage sites in Judea and Samaria is not new. In recent years, huge PLO flags have been hoisted at several heritage sites, severely damaging the archeological remains.

In November 2020, the PA inaugurated a “Palestinian” tourist complex in the town of Sebastia in Samaria, the historic capital of the biblical Kingdom of Israel. A flagpole with the PLO flag was affixed to the ancient stones, under the auspices of UNESCO and the Belgian government, without any archeological and scientific supervision.

More recently, unknown individuals from the PA have again caused damage to the Biblical-era site of Joshua ben Nun’s altar on Mount Ebal.

In January, Shomrim Al Hanetzach discovered that Arabs operating an illegal factory in Beit Fajar in Gush Etzion took about two kilometers from a Second Temple period aqueduct and ground it into gravel for construction.

The IDF’s Civil Administration claims it has no powers in the area, and that the PA is responsible for guarding the sites. However, Shomrim Al Hanetzach and the Shiloh Forum have formulated a legal position stating that in the absence of cooperation from the PA, the ultimate responsibility for these important sites rests with Israel.

Adi Shragai, the spokesperson for Shomrim Al Hanetzach, stated Tuesday that “dealing with the erasing heritage sites is not an issue for a local civic authority, like collecting property taxes and treating water and sewage. It is a violation of the global heritage of all mankind.”

This latest damage caused to a heritage site is “part of the nationalist rampage of flag-flying by the Palestinian Authority at heritage sites. It started in the Hasmonean Aroma fortress in Samaria that is being destroyed these days, through ancient Sebastia, and now another important site has been destroyed. Meanwhile, the Israeli side remains silent and does not prevent the destruction of the heritage.”

Turning to the government, she demands: “when you will be asked how a history of 3,000 years was destroyed in 30 years, what will you answer? This is your shift and the finger is pointed at you. You could act – and you did not. Shame.”

Antiquities in Judea and Samaria face a constant danger of destruction.

Grave robbers and antiquities thieves from the PA carry out illegal digs and excavations. The phenomenon of antiquity destruction is pervasive and affects all sites that are not under preservation, and a survey of the sites in Judea and Samaria shows that a staggering 95% of the archeological sites have been robbed, vandalized, or disturbed.

Findings presented to the Knesset in January show that 90% of the sites that are destroyed are being destroyed by the PA for development purposes, and 10% are destroyed for robbery purposes.

Gone are the days when Israel was able to freely attack Iranian positions in Syria, while making sure to stay away from Russian interests in the Levant.

As the Bennett-Abbas government has now slipped into the Lapid-Abbas government, Putin’s demands appear to be rising on the Jewish State. Whether this is a product of Lapid’s own strong stance against Russian aggression in Ukraine or its just a matter of changing needs for the Russian ruler, Russia is coming hard against Israel.

“We strongly condemn such irresponsible actions that violate the sovereignty of Syria and the basic norms of international law, and we demand their unconditional cessation,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

This statement was made after Israel undertook a rare daytime mission to strike at an Iranian shipment of advanced arms in the Syrian port of Tartus. Tartus also houses many Russian military personnel and equipment.

The fact is, Russia and Syria are increasingly becoming intertwined in ways most could not have foreseen. To say that Russian President Putin has his eyes on Israel would be an understatement. The largest contingent of Russian military outside of the Ukrainian theater is Syria. The Russian President’s increasingly belligerent tone against Israel should be seen for what it is – a drive to fulfill a pseudo religious campaign to restore Russian hegemony and the realization of the Russian Empire reborn.

In this light, Israel should rightly be nervous given that they are in the middle of another grueling election campaign, while their caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid is untested, inexperienced, and worried more about speechmaking than hard decisions.

Caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid flew to Paris to meet with French President Macron – his first overseas trip as Israeli Prime Minister.
While the meeting seemed innocuous on the surface, one statement by Macron should lead Israelis to be very nervous. Macron urged Lapid to return talks with the “palestinian” terror chief Mahmoud Abbas. “There is no good time to return to talks with the Palestinians, I know you can be that person.”

When asked about the statement, Lapid told INN:

“It was not a major part of the meeting. The French know the political situation in Israel and its limitations. They always raise questions and there are disagreements between us regarding negotiations with the Palestinians.”

Yet, Lapid has said he is willing to meet with Mahmoud Abbas as well as already stating that he favors only building in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria according to natural growth. Code words for an unofficial building freeze.

It is impossible to know what Lapid agreed to with Macron or even in closed phone calls with the US state department, but one thing is clear: Western governments are rejoicing for the first time in years that a leftwing politician is once again in charge of Israel.

Make no mistake, the damage Lapid can do as a caretaker Prime Minister can be destructive. Even if he does not remain Prime Minister after the elections, he can still harm Israeli by agreeing to a Palestinian State before Israelis vote. After all, Lapid seeks one thing – to be loved by the global elite – and the global elite know this. This is why Lapid’s next few months as caretaker Prime Minister should be truly frightening.

Keep in mind, Lapid was not voted in as Prime Minister by Israelis, who overwhelmingly voted for rightwing parties. It was only due to backroom deals between Bennett and Lapid, that Israel finds itself led by a man a majority of of Israelis don’t want as their leader.

Israel postpones Civil Administration meeting until months after presidential visit.

The Israeli government has postponed the advancement of plans to expand Jewish building in Judea until four months after U.S. President Joe Biden’s trip to Israel, likely due to fear of an American backlash.

A meeting of the Civil Administration’s High Planning Subcommittee, during which the E-1 project was likely to have been formally approved, was set to take place a few days after Biden’s visit.

However, the body announced on Monday that the session had been pushed back to September.

On Friday, 29 progressive Democrats sent Biden a letter calling for the U.S. to pressure Israel not to move forward with the plan.

“We urge you to continue emphasizing in the lead-up to [US President Joe Biden’s July 13-14] visit that settlement construction in E-1 remains a red line for the United States and to use every diplomatic tool at your disposal to ensure that Israel does not further advance these devastating plans,” they wrote in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides said that he had urged the Israeli government to put the plan on the backburner in March.

“[You] can’t stop everything” and have to “pick [your] battles,” but “E1 was a disaster. I went full bore on E1,” he told left-wing advocacy group Peace Now during a webinar.

“It is a very important area which if [built] could cut off any possibility of a capital for the Palestinians,” he said.

A master plan for the E-1 project, which would connect the settlement of Ma’ale Adumim to Jerusalem by building 3,412 housing units in the space between the two cities, has existed for more than two decades.

It was originally drawn up in 1994 by Yitzhak Rabin’s government, and plans received further approval from subsequent prime ministers including Shimon Peres and Ehud Olmert.

Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu fast-tracked the E-1 plan for official Defense Ministry approval in late 2020, but little has happened since then.

The plan to build on the currently empty hilltop, which is classified as state land by Israel, has been repeatedly shoved due to left-wing backlash and international pressure.

The plan would connect Ma’ale Adumim to Jerusalem. Critic erroneously claim the plan would cut off Palestinian access to Jerusalem or break the territorial contiguity of a future Palestinian state.

According to Israel advocacy group Stand With Us, the New York Times was forced to issue a correction after making those claims in a number of articles.

Driving north of Hebron in the direction of Gush Etzion an Israeli motorist got his car smashed and was nearly injured when a “palestinian” Arab threw a block at his car.

The driver and his passengers were attacked while passing the Arab village of Beit Anun. The village has been a constant source of violence throughout the years against Jewish commuters traveling north from Hebron to either Gush Etzion or Jerusalem.

This particular incident comes at a time of increased tensions in Judea and Samaria following the inconclusive investigation carried out by the Americans into the death of Shireen Abu Akleh, a “palestinian journalist.”

That coupled with a very inexperienced Yair Lapid now at the helm of Israel means many more attacks are likely to be on their way.

When Shiren Abu Akleh an activist-journalist working for Al Jazeera was killed in Jenin, the blame targeting Israel reached to all parts of the world.

Jenin has been a hotbed of terror for decades and is often the legitimate target of Israeli anti-terror units in hopes of preempting terror cells before they launch attacks against Israeli civilians.

Abu Akleh was killed when she positioned herself close enough to terror cells the Israelis were targeting. While often times Israel is blamed erroneously, even if they killed Abu Akleh, they were not targeting her.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz already said the following a little over a month ago:

“First and foremost that I am very sorry for what happened. Secondly, currently we do not know what was the direct cause for Shireen’s death, and thirdly that I am, we are, very decisive to have a full-scale investigation of this process and we hope to get Palestinian cooperation on this issue, because without the report of the pathological surgery that she went through and the findings and the forensic findings, it will be very hard for us to figure out what exactly happened on the ground and it’s very important for us all.“

The footage taken at the scene shows “palestinian” terrorists assuming they shot an IDF soldier only to find out it was Shiren Abu Akleh.

Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, it is clear the “palestinians” have taken advantage of the situation and marred Israel’s image yet again.

The Israeli security establishment is bracing itself for potential terror attacks during U.S. President Joe Biden’s upcoming visit, Ynet reported on Monday.

The report was based on Zoom meeting of police commanders on Sunday. Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai briefed police commanders on the presidential visit.

Biden is scheduled to visit the region on July 13-16 with stops in Israel, the Palestinian Authority and Saudi Arabia.

Police sources told Ynet that they are considering the possibility that terrorists will attack during the visit. The report did not mention any intelligence of a specific attack. Nor did the sources indicate whether the police discussed attacks targeting Biden or attacks elsewhere intended to disrupt his visit.

Biden reportedly plans to visit eastern Jerusalem unaccompanied by Israeli officials, the first visit by a U.S. president to eastern Jerusalem. It is widely believed that Biden will visit the Al Makassed Hospital, which is located on the Mount of Olives, and announce the renewal of U.S. funding for Palestinian health care.

“Since the last wave of terror, the police with its anti-terror unit and in cooperation with the Shin Bet, foiled dozens of attacks that were already set to take place,” the source told Ynet.

During Biden’s last visit to Israel, a Palestinian went on a stabbing spree in Jaffa. The 2016 attack took place a short distance from the Peres Center for Peace, where the then-Vice President was meeting former Israeli President Shimon Peres.

Taylor Force, an American student, was killed and nine others were injured in the stabbing spree. The terrorist, 21-year-old Bashar Massalha was killed by responding police.

Congress later passed the Taylor Force Act amid outrage over Massalha’s family receiving a monthly pension from the Palestinian Authority’s Martyrs Fund.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook southern Iran at 2:00 AM local time on Saturday, killing five and injuring at least 50. The seismic event was followed by approximately 30 aftershocks, with two measuring at 6.3 and 6.1. 

DEADLY IRAN QUAKES
“All of the victims died in the first earthquake, and no one was harmed in the next two severe quakes as people were already outside their homes,” said Foad Moradzadeh, governor of Bandar Lengeh country, quoted by the state news agency IRNA.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, being crossed by several major faults covering at least 90% of the country. As a result, earthquakes in Iran occur often and are destructive. Iran is well known for its long history of disastrous earthquake activity. 

State TV said 150 quakes and tremors had struck the western Hormozgan province over the past month.

In April last year, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit Bushehr, where a major nuclear power plant is located. In southeastern Iran’s Kerman province, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake killed more than 31,000 people and flattened the ancient city of Bam in 2003.

The recent tremors were felt in the United Arab Emirates and other neighboring Gulf states. According to USGS, other impacted countries include Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, and Afghanistan.

Last month at least 1,000 people died in an earthquake in Paktika, a mountainous region in eastern Afghanistan.

GENTLE QUAKES IN ISRAEL
The earthquakes in Iran come in sharp contrast to a recent series of tremors in Israel.  Last Wednesday night, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook northern Israel. 

There were no reports of injuries or damage. Israel’s Geological Survey tracked the quake, saying it was centered 13 kilometers (8 miles) northeast of Beit She’an, on the border with Jordan, at a depth of 13 kilometers.

In January, a large 6.5-magnitude quake hit off the west coast of Cyprus and was felt in nearby Israel, Lebanon and Turkey. Less than two weeks later, two small earthquakes hit northern Israel. In early February, another quake off the coast of Cyprus was felt in Israel. In late February, two small earthquakes, 3.5 and 3.2, shook northern Israel. Another minor earthquake took place off the coast last month.

While most of these earthquakes shook seismically active regions, it should be noted that Israel sits on t; Israeli quakes have been far more gentle than those experienced by Iran.

EARTHQUAKES AND PROPHECY
As terrifying as earthquakes can be, there may be a silver lining to an increase in regional seismic activity. In a 2007 article in the J-Post, Dr. Shmuel Marco,  Head of the School of the Environment and Earth Sciences at Tel Aviv University, noted that prophets became active a certain number of years after major earthquakes. Major earthquakes were recorded in the Jordan Valley in the years 31 BCE, 363 CE, 749 CE and 1033 CE. 

“So roughly,” wrote Marco,,,,,, “we are talking about an interval of every 400 years. If we follow the patterns of nature, a major quake should be expected any time because almost a whole millennium has passed since the last strong earthquake.”

Dr. Marco went so far as to attribute Joshua’s victory at Jericho to divinely directed seismic interference. 

“The destruction of the walls of the city and the damming of the river, as described in Joshua 6:1-16, is generally agreed by most archeologists to be the result of an earthquake, possibly on the Jericho Fault,” Dr.Marco wrote.

Earthquakes are prophesied to accompany the end-of-days however earthquakes inside Israel will m; manifest in a vastly different manner as compared to those outside the Holy Land.

The new air defense system reportedly destroyed in Saturday’s airstrike was “a new move by the Iranians in Syria” to protect their military interests.

Israeli forces intercepted and destroyed an Iranian air defense system in transit in northern Syria over the weekend, according to a report by Israeli television.

An airstrike was reported Saturday morning in the northwestern Syrian town of Al-Hamidiyah, south of the port city of Tartus and just north of the Lebanese border.

Syria’s state controlled media outlet SANA said the Israeli air force was responsible for the strike, and claimed it destroyed poultry farms, injuring two civilians.

But according to a report by Channel 12, the airstrike targeted an Iranian air defense system, which given its proximity to the port of Tartus, had recently been offloaded from a ship.

The report called the air defense system a “game changing” advance for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces deployed in Syria.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the poultry farms were fronts used by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror group.

Amid an ongoing years-long de facto war between IRGC Quds Forces in Syria and the Israeli military, Iran has in recent years sought to challenge the IDF’s ability to operate in Syrian airspace.

The new air defense system destroyed in Saturday’s airstrike was, according to the Channel 12 report, part of “a new move by the Iranians in Syria to bring in air defense system to protect their military interests.”

While Iran has a significant military presence in Syria, including both its Quds Force and allied local militias, it has thus far relied on the Assad regime’s air defense network for protection from Israeli airstrikes.

A report last December citing Israeli security officials claimed that Israel has struck some three quarters of Iran’s weapons supply in Syria.

Four years ago, Iran attempted to deploy its own air defense system in Syria, but was reportedly foiled by an Israeli airstrike.

Saturday’s airstrike in Syria came just hours after two explosions reportedly caused heavy damage to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Basij militia base southeast of Tehran Friday night.

In his first address to Israel as Prime Minister, Yair Lapid thanked Naftali Bennett for an orderly transition of power and put Iran on notice.

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu called Lapid on Friday, wishing him a peaceful term with “4 months of security quiet” and offered to continue receiving security updates through military secretary Avi Gil.

Lapid addressed the country on Saturday night.

“I want to start by thanking the 13th Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Naftali Bennett. For your decency, for your friendship and for leading the government this past year to economic and security achievements not seen here for years,” Lapid said.

Lapid added “a special thank you for allowing the citizens of Israel to see this week an orderly transition between people who keep agreements and believe in one another,” a poke at Netanyahu who reneged on a similar rotational agreement with Benny Gantz in 2020.

“We believe that Israel must be a liberal democracy in which every citizen has the right to change the government and set the course of their life. Nobody can be denied their fundamental rights: respect, liberty, freedom of employment, and the right to personal security,” Lapid continued.

“We believe that Israel is a Jewish state. Its character is Jewish. Its identity is Jewish. Its relations with its non-Jewish citizens are also Jewish. The book of Leviticus says, ‘But the stranger who dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself.’”

Lapid then turned to security issues.

“We believe that so long as Israel’s security needs are met, Israel is a country that seeks peace. Israel stretches out its hand to all the peoples of the Middle East, including the Palestinians, and says: the time has come for you to recognize that we’ll never move from here, let’s learn to live together,” the Prime Minister said.

“We believe there is a great blessing in the Abraham Accords, a great blessing in the security and economic momentum created at the Negev Summit with the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, and Morocco and that there will be a great blessing in the agreements yet to come.”

On Iran, Lapid vowed not to back down against Tehran’s threats to Mideast security.

“We’ll do whatever we must to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear capability, or entrenching itself on our borders,” adding, “I say to everyone seeking our demise, from Gaza to Tehran, from the shores of Lebanon to Syria: don’t test us. Israel knows how to use its strength against every threat, against every enemy.”

The bulk of Lapid’s remarks, however, were an appeal for Israeli unity and to lower social polarization.

“The State of Israel is bigger than all of us. More important than any of us. It was here before us, and will be here long after us. It doesn’t belong only to us. It belongs to those who dreamed of it for thousands of years in the Diaspora, and also to those yet to be born, to future generations,” Lapid said.

Israelis will always have disagreements, but “the question is how we manage them, and how we make sure they don’t manage us,” he added.

Hezbollah sent three UAVs into Israel’s economic zone in the Mediterranean Sea near “Karish” gas platform, a strategic location for the Jewish State.

An Israeli fighter jet and Navy missile ship destroyed the UAVs, which were sent from Lebanon. The UAVs are the latest provocation done by Hezbollah to pressure Israel in the North.

The Karish Gas Field is an economically strategic area off of Israel’s Northern coast.

“The State of Israel is prepared to defend its infrastructure in the face of any threat,” Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a statement. “The Hezbollah terrorist organization undermines the Lebanese state’s ability to reach an agreement on the maritime border that is essential to Lebanon’s economy and citizens.”

Facing Hezbollah Threat, Israel Ramps up Bomb Shelter Construction in North
The Defense Ministry on Tuesday, June 28, announced that it had begun reinforcement work on dozens of homes in Israeli communities close to the Lebanese border — those that are most likely to be hit by rocket fire in a future conflict with the Hezbollah terror group.

The effort, dubbed Shield of the North, officially began in October, when the ministry’s Engineering and Construction Division, along with the Israel Defense Forces’ Home Front Command, started installing new bomb shelters in homes in the community of Kfar Yuval, northeast of Kiryat Shmona.

In the coming months, dozens of bomb shelters will be built in homes in the northern town of Shlomi, which were constructed in the 1970s without reinforced rooms, the ministry said.

Separately, the ministry published a tender for the construction of 110 bomb shelters in Misgav Am and is set to publish similar tenders for the towns of Margaliot and Manara in the coming weeks.

IDF stopped Iranian attempt to poison Israel’s water supply

Israeli official confirms for the first time that Iran attempted to poison Israel civilians by raising chlorine levels in water supply.

An Israeli security official publicly confirmed for the first time that Israel successfully thwarted an Iranian cyber attack on its water supply, though hackers from the Islamic Republic nearly succeeded in sickening hundreds of civilians, last Wednesday.
The deputy chief of IDF cyber Unit 8200, identified only as Colonel U, said a cyber security conference that an “adversary [Iran] attacked water facilities in Israel. We saw this attacker attempting to poison the water in an attempt to claim human lives. We mitigated that threat far in advance.

“Another adversary attacked Israel, and we also found that they were attempting to target U.S. power plants as well,” he said. “This was the first indication of this attack. It enabled preventing this threat through tight collaboration with our amazing American partners.”

According to a Financial Times report, the April 2020 attack has served as a major wake-up call for Israel that its civilian infrastructure is not off-limits in the ongoing shadow war between Jerusalem and Tehran.

The attack “was more sophisticated than they [Israel] initially thought,” the official told the Times. “It was close to [being] successful, and it’s not fully clear why it didn’t succeed.”

Iranian hackers had attempted to raise the levels of acceptable chlorine present in Israeli civilian water supplies to a dangerous level. If they had managed to do so, this could have poisoned or even killed hundreds of Israelis.

Alternatively, the high chlorine levels in the water may have triggered an automatic shutdown of the system, meaning that thousands of Israelis could have potentially been left without water during the scorching summer heat.

An Iranian official flatly denied the report in a statement to the times, saying that “Iran cannot politically afford to try to poison Israeli civilians,” adding that such a move would be met with severe retaliation from Israel.

“If Iran did [try to attack water supplies], where is the Israelis’ appropriate response?” he asked.

Unilever announced the deal in a press release:”The company has sold its Ben & Jerry’s business interests in Israel to Avi Zinger, the owner of American Quality Products Ltd (AQP), the current Israel-based licensee. The new arrangement means Ben & Jerry’s will be sold under its Hebrew and Arabic names throughout Israel and the West Bank under the full ownership of its current licensee.”

When Ben and Jerry’s was bought out by Unilever in 2000, it retained a level of independence on social issues. However, Unilever took full control of business decisions. This allows it to override Ben and Jerry’s decision made last year to discontinue selling its ice cream in Judea and Samaria.
