“It’s not even close in our caucus,” said Pelosi Tuesday. “Why are we speculating on hypotheticals?”

“It’s not off the table,” the speaker said, before adding, “I don’t think you should impeach for political reasons and I don’t think you should not impeach for political reasons.”

“It’s not about politics,” Pelosi said. “It’s not about Democrats and Republicans. It’s not about partisanship. It’s about patriotism to our country.”

The United States and Mexico reached a “signed agreement” Friday evening ending days of tough talks and forging a new deal that will suspend the White House’s 5% tariff on Mexican goods and crackdown on illegal immigration at the Southern Border.

“I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended,” he said. “Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to….stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. The Mexican government reportedly deployed their military to its southern border this week; offering major immigration concessions to the Trump administration to avoid proposed tariffs scheduled to take effect Monday.

“With just days to go until the Trump administration is set to impose punishing tariffs on Mexico unless the country halts the unprecedented flow of illegal immigrants across the southern border, numerous signs that Mexico would capitulate emerged Thursday — but it remained unclear Friday morning whether their efforts would satisfy the White House,” reports Fox News.

“Reports in the evening indicated that Mexico’s negotiators with Washington have offered to immediately deploy 6,000 National Guard troops to the border with Guatemala. Additionally, Mexico has reportedly agreed to a major overhaul of reasonable asylum protocols, which would require asylum applicants to seek permanent refuge in the first country they arrive in after fleeing their home countries,” adds the article.

Mexican authorities prevented an additional ‘migrant caravan’ originating in Central America from entering its borders this week; a gesture that could help future trade talks with the Trump administration.

“Authorities blocked a new caravan of Central American migrants Wednesday after they entered Mexico bound for the United States, as the government scrambled to dodge President Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs over undocumented immigration,” reports Yahoo News.

“Soldiers and police forced hundreds of migrants in the group — which was mostly from Honduras — to a halt in the southern town of Metapa de Dominguez, about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from the Mexican-Guatemalan border,” adds the report.

The Trump administration is prepared to impose a 5% tariff on all Mexican products on Monday should their government fail to crackdown on illegal immigration flowing towards the United States.

The escalating crisis at the border took a turn for the worse in May 2019, with new statistics showing federal agents detained more than 55,000 children attempting to illegally enter the United States.

“The government set another grim record in May with more than 55,000 children nabbed by Border Patrol agents along the southwest border,” reports the Washington Times. “They were part of more than 130,000 unauthorized migrants Border Patrol agents and officers at the ports of entry encountered last month, up from about 109,000 in April and far higher than the 51,000 or so nabbed in May 2018.”

The ratings at MSNBC and CNN continued to plunge this week, with new data showing the networks hitting Trump-era lows weeks after Robert Mueller’s “no collusion” conclusion was released to the public.

According to recent reports, CNN viewership is down at least 16% in the first quarter of 2019 with no end in sight.

MSNBC is also experiencing a massive drop in the ratings.

“Maddow lost nearly 500,000 viewers for her first episode following the release of Barr’s letter. Then she plummeted 13 percent in April compared to the same month in 2018, according to TVNewser, falling behind “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in the process. Union officials representing Border Patrol Agents confirmed Monday that the Transportation Security Administration is allowing illegal immigrants to board airplanes without photo identification in at least two Texas airports.

“The union that represents border patrol agents told KFOX14 their clients have reported seeing the Transportation Security Administration allow illegal immigrants to fly without providing photo identification at two Texas airports, “ reports Fox El Paso.

“Late last week, we were told by border patrol agents in Laredo, Texas that they had observed TSA accepting I-862 notice to appear in court documents from illegal aliens who had just been released from border patrol custody, and allowing them to fly,” said Shawn Moran, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council. “A couple of days ago, we found out the same type of situation was occurring in El Paso, Texas at their airport. We did receive reports that in El Paso, illegal aliens were walked around security, much to the dismay of U.S. citizens who were standing in line waiting to be screened.”

“These documents are easily reproduced on any type of copier or home computer, they have no photographs, so there’s really no way to verify that the person holding them is actually who they say they are,” he said. “We’re just concerned that the commercial transportation system could be exploited by somebody claiming to be another person.”

The total chaos sweeping the US-Mexico border continued over the weekend; with US officials confirming they detained a “large group” of migrants originating from Central African nations like Angola and the Congo.

“U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a large group of 116 individuals Thursday,” stated a press release from the Border and Customs Protection Agency.

Downing Street appeared to be fairly relaxed about the controversial meetings, with a source saying: ‘Who the president meets during his visit is a matter for him.’ Theresa May is thought to have delayed her departure from Number 10 to meet Mr Trump and avoid the leadership contest overshadowing his trip. As with last year’s visit, protesters are planning to take to the streets and the baby blimp could fly again. Mr Trump has declared that the UK ‘really loves him’ but the Met Police are preparing a huge security operation.

Favreau’s remarks echo similar election prediction models, with a recent study showing President Trump has a “formidable advantage” heading into the 2020 race for the White House.

President Trump is now projected to win the 2020 race for the White House by three different election models; with experts saying he has a “formidable” advantage against any potential Democratic opponent.

“Steven Rattner, who served as counselor to the Treasury secretary in the Obama administration and worked on the auto industry bailouts, explained in his piece that three separate projection models currently point to a win for Trump,” reports Fox News.

“One model by Ray Fair, a professor at Yale, projects Trump’s 2020 vote share as high as 56 percent given the economic boom, but that does not account for voters’ issues with the president’s personality,” adds the author.

Of all the various attacks launched against President Donald Trump by the liberal establishment media, the assaults aimed at his marriage to First Lady Melania Trump are perhaps the most disappointing and infuriating.

The latest media-driven wedge intended to upset the Trump union came from the U.K. Express, which asserted in a headline that the first lady “sleeps alone” in the presidential cabin of Air Force One on international trips. They cited the president’s never-ending workload and limitless energy as the reasons for those hours spent apart.

Insulting implications
The  article’s headline — “Melania Trump sleeps ALONE as husband Donald ‘rarely’ joins her in Air Force One cabin” — not-so-subtlely implies that the first couple is experiencing marital troubles. But in reality, that is simply not the case.

Rather, the truth is merely that President Trump — who is already well-known for not sleeping very much as it is — barely rests at all while traveling abroad on Air Force One.


Instead, the president prefers to keep himself busy with other things that require his attention while the executive jet flies toward its foreign destinations.

CNN: Air Force One a nightmare
The article from the Express was largely based off of information first put forward by a heavily biased and critical CNN article citing supposed current and former Trump administration officials — all anonymous, of course — who purportedly characterized international flights on Air Force One as a hellish experience that most staffers now attempt to avoid.

One official reportedly said of international travel with the president: “It’s like being held captive.”

The report lamented the fact that, outside of the presidential cabin at the nose of the plane, there really aren’t any designated sleeping areas on Air Force One for anybody else. As such, officials and staffers who want to catch a little sleep on the lengthy flights have to make do with mini-couches, office chairs in conference rooms, or even yoga mats placed on the floor.


Adding insult to injury, according to the anonymous sources, since Trump rarely attempts to get any sleep on those flights, the aides and officials sometimes find their own efforts to get a little nap are disrupted as they are summoned by the president for some task or another.

Boundless energy
“He will not go to sleep,” one of the sources reportedly said. Logical observers would likely conclude that this is the actual reason the first lady “sleeps alone” in the executive bedroom on the plane.

Rather than sleep, the president reportedly occupies his time by eating, watching the news and reading newspapers, making calls to allies and friends back home and around the world, and talking with aides and staffers about all sorts of things, from the itinerary of the upcoming foreign visit to mundane things like friendly gossip and the latest sports news.

One aspect of Trump’s international travel on Air Force One that goes hand-in-hand with the reported lack of sleep issue is the way in which the timing of his trips differs from that of past presidents.

Previous presidents would often schedule the lengthy overseas flights to occur overnight so that Air Force One would arrive at its destination in the morning, with everyone refreshed from sleep and ready to tackle the visit’s events at the start of the day.

But Trump prefers to travel during the day and arrive at his destination in the evening, which allows himself and others to get some rest in a hotel prior to delving into the business at hand the next day.

Not your typical 9-5 job
One thing to keep in mind amid all of this is how President Trump has long been a workaholic who requires minimal sleep, typically only around four to five hours per night, sometimes even less, and there is always work to be done to fix what ails this country. Regrettably, considerable energy must also be expended fending off the incessant partisan attacks from Democrats and the hostile media alike.

With so many things going on at all times, the president doesn’t like to waste more any more hours than necessary on sleep. Therefore, much like any typical day at the White House, the first lady “sleeps alone” in the presidential bedroom while the president stays up late and works in his office.

Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg charged President Donald Trump with “fak[ing] a disability” to avoid military service during the Vietnam War, parroting an unsubstantiated left-wing conspiracy theory which relies upon rumor and speculation.

Mayoral meltdown
The South Bend, Indiana mayor made the inflammatory accusation on Thursday during an interview with Washington Post Live, where he claimed that President Donald Trump was “exploiting the system” when he received a disability waiver making him ineligible for the draft.

“I have a pretty dim view of [Trump’s] decision to use his privileged status to fake a disability in order to avoid serving in Vietnam,” Buttigieg said.

When Buttigieg, who served as a Navy intelligence officer in Afghanistan, was pressed on his baseless claim, he snapped back: “Do you believe he has a disability?”

What evidence does Buttigieg have to render such a slanderous opinion of the president? There isn’t much to go on besides innuendo and hearsay.
The two daughters of a New York podiatrist who diagnosed Trump with the condition 51 years ago claim that their father, Dr. Larry Braunstein, diagnosed Trump with bone spurs in his heels as a “favor” to his landlord, Fred Trump. Elysa Braunstein and Sharon Kessel, who would have been 5 and 2 at the time of Trump’s diagnosis, claim that their father committed fraud for “access to Fred Trump,” who returned the favor by “fixing anything wrong in the building” he was leasing to the doctor.

However, there are reasons to be suspicious of this account. The New York Times described the sisters as “Democrats who oppose Trump.” They failed to produce “any documentation to back up their claims,” according to USA Today.

“Armed with this shoddy evidence, Buttigieg tore into the POTUS and accused him of “manipulating the ability to get a diagnosis.” The Indiana Democrat admitted to basing his theories on a hunch, and he even sympathized with wartime deserters who abandon their country out of overt cowardice.

“I mean, if he were a conscientious objector, I’d admire that,” Buttigieg said. “But this is somebody who it’s fairly obvious to most of us took advantage of that fact that he was the child of a multimillionaire in order to pretend to be disabled so that somebody could go to war in his place.”

“I know that that dredges up old wounds from a complicated time during a complicated war,” he added. “I’m also old enough to remember when conservatives talked about character.”

The moral low ground
This lecture about character comes from a mayor who recklessly bulldozed 1,000 lower-income homes in South Bend to make way for middle-class development, displacing thousands of poor people in the process. To explain the forced evictions, Buttigieg explained: “This is just how economic development happens.”

Much like his city’s gentrification project, Buttigieg is charging full steam ahead for the White House — facts be damned.

In his speech, President Trump actually lamented how “legitimate” asylum seekers are “displaced” by those who file frivolous claims.

“Unfortunately, legitimate asylum seekers are being displaced by those lodging frivolous claims. These are frivolous claims to gain admission into our country,” he said.

Saavedra points out that many on social media rushed to correct Acosta.

The Center for Immigration Studies tweeted: “In fact, President Trump said that ‘legitimate asylum seekers’ are disadvantaged by frivolous claims. The president is correct. Out of every 100 migrants who make credible fear claims, only 13 are ultimately granted asylum. 52 don’t even file for asylum.”

CNN political analyst April Ryan is calling for White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders’ immediate termination after insisting Sanders “lied” to reporters about former FBI director James Comey’s reputation with rank-and-file members of the bureau.
Ryan cited details unveiled by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report to make the case that Sanders should get the ax.

“Fire me Good Friday”
“Not only does she not have any credibility left, she lied,” Ryan told CNN “OutFront” host Erin Burnett. “She outright lied and the people, the American people can’t trust her.”
However, Ryan is not just making a mountain out of a molehill. Her accusation that Sanders lied is over the top, and the press secretary had no reason to apologize to Mueller’s investigators for saying that Comey was disliked by a majority of FBI agents.

Sanders discussed Comey’s standing within the bureau during a May 2017 press conference, when she disputed a journalist’s contention that the “vast majority” of FBI personnel supported their former leader. Mueller’s 448-page report, released after months of anticipation on Thursday, details how Sanders told the special counsel that her statement suggesting that “countless” FBI agents had lost confidence in Comey’s leadership was a “slip of the tongue,” spoken “in the heat of the moment.”

Ryan seized on Sanders’ testimony, using the special counsel interview to argue that the press secretary should be pink-slipped immediately. “They can’t trust what’s said from the president’s mouthpiece, spokesperson, from the people’s house,” Ryan argued. “Therefore, she should be let go. She should be fired. End of story. When there is a lack of credibility there, you have to start and start lopping the heads off. It’s ‘Fire Me Thursday’ or ‘Fire Me Good Friday,’ she needs to go.”

Disgraced director
Sanders told special counsel investigators that her Comey description was “not founded on anything.” The word “countless” was obviously hyperbole, but Sanders’ point was justified, and there was no reason for the Trump spokeswoman to succumb to special counsel pressure by walking back her statement concerning the FBI’s morale under Comey.

James A. Gagliano, a 25-year FBI veteran, queried many of his former colleagues in December 2018 to get an impression of Comey’s stature among FBI field agents and middle management. Almost every agent, both within Gagliano’s inner circle and among colleagues he has never met, believed that Comey severely damaged the FBI’s reputation.
“James Comey has done irreparable damage to the bureau we love. His conduct, specifically his leaking, has divided the bureau, and it will take years to regain our hard-earned reputation,” retired FBI Special Agent Joaquin Garcia told Gagliano.

Retired FBI Hostage Rescue Team Unit Chief Dave Shellenberger agreed, saying he and other agents lost respect for Comey after the Hillary Clinton email investigation: “I wanted to believe Comey was doing the right thing, but then he stepped in front of those microphones on July 5, 2016, and uttered that infamous statement — ‘No reasonable prosecutor would bring these charges,’ and we all cringed and said, ‘Why is he announcing that?’ Hey, it wasn’t his place, and he damaged our reputation afterward by not accepting responsibility for his actions,” Shellenberger said.
“Comey’s book tour and in-your-face public persona since his firing has done irreparable damage to the FBI’s reputation,” said retired FBI dive team leader Bobby Chacon. Likewise, retired FBI counterterrorism section chief Stephen Bucar said Comey “played fast and loose with the strict rules that ensure an institution’s character remains intact and is forever respected by the American people.”

To demonstrate just how widespread the bureau’s disregard for the Comey’s leadership was, Gagliano spoke to former FBI assistant director Tom Fuentes, who told him about “his dealings with innumerable former FBI colleagues who share ‘overwhelming shame and disgust at the reports of misconduct and potentially illegal acts committed by then Director Comey, et al.”

Playing with fire
Therefore, Sanders’ explanation before special counsel interrogators was completely unnecessary, and Ryan’s subsequent tantrum calling the press secretary a liar was both offensive and unjustified. Nonetheless, the White House correspondent suggested during her CNN appearance that Sanders was responsible for death threats leveled at mainstream news reporters.

“Sarah plays a dangerous game in that room,” Ryan said. “The game is dangerous because she is lying to the American public. Then, on top of all that, she says the press is fake when she’s faking reports from the people’s house. She’s calling us fake? We’ve had colleagues who’ve had to move from their houses because of threats. I have to have security because of being called ‘fake’ and a ‘loser’ and all sorts of things from that White House. It’s time for her to go.”

Yet, if anyone understands the terrifying reality of being the subject of death threats, it is Sanders. As the spokeswoman famously explained to CNN’s Jim Acosta last year, the president’s enemies have said she “should be harassed as a life sentence,” and that she “should be choked.” Sanders has been called “’a traitor to [her] own gender,” and has received so many threats that she requires her own secret service detail — an unprecedented arrangement for a communications director.

Efforts to slander Sanders over the Mueller report are despicable and actually contribute to the dangerous conditions that she and other senior Trump officials endure. In fact, Ryan should be fired for pushing a false and unsupported narrative that grossly underestimated Comey’s disgraced reputation among the FBI’s rank-and-file. After all, it‘s still “Fire Me Friday.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spent the weekend in Germany blasting President Donald Trump for his criticism of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) — but it didn’t take long for the commander-in-chief to fire back.
In a tweet on Monday, the president called Omar “out of control” before slamming the freshman congresswoman’s apparent hold on Nancy Pelosi.

Trump’s Monday tweet came in response to a series of controversial remarks that came from the House Speaker over the weekend. On a trip to Germany, Pelosi blasted Trump’s previous criticism of Omar, which came after Omar downplayed the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 to simply: “Some people did something.”
The president had reacted by sharing a video on Twitter in which Omar can be heard repeatedly saying the inflammatory line over footage from the deadly attacks.

“Following the president’s tweet, I spoke with the Sergeant-at-Arms to ensure that Capitol Police are conducting a security assessment to safeguard Congresswoman Omar, her family and her staff. They will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces,” Pelosi said. “The president’s words weigh a ton, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger. President Trump must take down his disrespectful and dangerous video.”

But while Omar continues to allege she’s facing increased death threats over her latest remarks about 9/11, she remains undaunted, choosing to defend her statement and play the part of a victim rather than admit she slipped up. She even drew a false parallel between her statement and one made by then-President George W. Bush, in which he called the World Trade Centers “buildings,” to suggest that Bush, unlike her, was not criticized because he is not Muslim.

The bad blood between CNN reporter Jim Acosta and President Donald Trump is no secret.

But when Acosta asked Trump what he’d say to critics who allege he’s “concocting” a national emergency at the southern border, Trump let him have it — and Acosta was left without a word.

“Fake Question”
“Do you think I’m creating something?” Trump asked so-called “Angel Moms” in attendance, who have lost children at the hands of illegal immigrants. One of the mothers even stood to show Acosta a picture of her child who was murdered.

“Ask these incredible women, who lost their daughters and their sons,” Trump implored Acosta. “Because your question is a very political question, because you have an agenda, you’re CNN, you’re fake news.”

Then, the president finished strong.

“The numbers that you gave are wrong,” Trump told Acosta. “Take a look at our federal prison population, see how many of them, percentage-wise, are illegal aliens. Just see. Go ahead and see.”

Only Getting Worse
Trump has been hammering the immigration issue since his first day as an official candidate. He warned even back in 2015 that the immigration problem was only going to get worse if something was not immediately done to address it.

While the problem did subside for a small time, at least in terms of how many crossings we were seeing, that time has clearly passed.

We are now seeing double and sometimes triple the number of apprehensions by border control that we saw last year. And if we are seeing that much of an increase in arrests, it’s obvious that far more are actually getting across the border.

The plan from those who have turned border crossing into a business is apparently to overwhelm the borders with more immigrants so they have a better chance of getting more through.

And unless we see significant increases in funding and a border wall, the number of illegal immigrants coming in is only going to climb.

PM says all communities over the Green Line must be under Israeli sovereignty, vows this will eventually happen; hints at progress, with US support, in his next term

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had made clear to President Donald Trump that he is not prepared to evacuate “a single person” from any West Bank settlements.

When asked if he knew the details of Trump’s “Deal of the Century,” Netanyahu told Channel 13 in an interview broadcast Friday that he knew what he had told Trump to include in the agreement.

“I know what I said: I said there can’t be the removal of even one settlement, and [that Israel insists on] our continued control of all the territory to the west of the Jordan,” Netanyahu said.

Asked in the interview, which was recorded on Wednesday, whether he had specified this to Trump personally, Netanyahu said he had set out the same positions to Trump and former US President Barack Obama. He elaborated that he had specified to Trump that he would not evacuate “a single person” from the settlements.

“You said that to Trump?” he was asked.

“Like that,” he said, adding that it had been recorded.

Were the US plan to contradict those positions, he indicated, it would not be viable. “As far as I am concerned, [the evacuation of settlements] won’t be there [in the plan], and if it is [in the plan], it won’t [happen].”

Trump, he said, “is the best friend Israel has had” in the White House, and respects his position, “as I respect his,” when he insists on something.

When asked if he expected the US administration to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank like Trump recognized the Golan Heights last month, and why he wasn’t pressing Trump now to approve Israeli sovereignty over the settlements, Netanyahu said: “Wait until the next term.”

“All the settlements, without exception, those that are in blocs and those that aren’t, need to remain under Israeli sovereignty,” Netanyahu told interviewers Rani Rahav and Sharon Gal, adding that this would “eventually” happen.

Over 400,000 Jews live in West Bank settlements. Another 200,000-plus live in East Jerusalem neighborhoods annexed by Israel after the 1967 war.

The prime minister’s comments in the interview, which fly in the face of Palestinian demands for statehood in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, did not make immediate headlines in Israel. This may have been because it was broadcast at the start of Shabbat in a political chat show that preceded the main evening news, rather than in the main news broadcast. Netanyahu has taken an increasingly hard line against Palestinian statehood, having accepted the idea in principle in a 2009 speech.

Netanyahu highlighted his longtime personal connections to other world leaders in the interview, saying he speaks “eye-to-eye” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and that these relationships would help Israel achieve peace in the region by keeping it in a position of power.

“Our neighbors, and the Iranians, hope to destroy us. The peace that you can get, it’s only from a position of power,” he said.

International interest and investment in Israel was growing, and other countries in the Middle East are moving to forge ties with Israel because of its strength, he said.

“The whole world is coming to us. Powerful world leaders — the president of China, Xi [Jinping], the president of India, [Narendra] Modi, a personal friend, the president of Japan, [Shinzo] Abe,” he said. (Modi and Abe are in fact the prime ministers of their respective countries.)

Netanyahu and his Likud party are in fierce competition with challenger Benny Gantz’s centrist Blue and White faction ahead of general elections on April 9.

Earlier Friday, a final pre-election poll put Likud dead even with challenger Blue and White with 28 seats apiece.

Overall, however, right-wing and religious parties received 66 seats in the poll, versus 54 for the center-left and Arab parties, mirroring the results of all major surveys released in recent days and again suggesting that Netanyahu will have an easier route to building a governing majority.

The survey, aired by Channel 13 news, was the last of the campaign for the 21st Knesset, with Israeli election law barring the publication of further polls after Friday.

Asked their preference for prime minister, 46 percent of poll respondents said Netanyahu, 37% said Gantz and 17% said they did not know.

Netanyahu told supporters Friday afternoon that the Israeli right “is in danger” of losing its grip on power following national elections on April 9, as most of the final polls released before Israelis head to the ballot box gave the rival Blue and White faction a lead over the premier’s ruling Likud party.

In a video posted to social media, the premier called on voters to “come back home to Likud,” warning that his rivals could “break the right-wing bloc.”

Speaking to Likud activists outside his official residence in Jerusalem, Netanyahu exhorted right-wing voters to back his party on election day, as opposed to other, smaller right-wing parties, warning that otherwise a “left-wing government” led by Blue and White would be established.

But it didn’t take long for President Trump to nominate his pick for her replacement: Jovita Carranza, who currently serves as U.S. treasurer.

McMahon Moving On
While McMahon is leaving the administration, she is clearly still on the Trump Train.

She is taking over as chair of a pro-Trump super PAC called America First Action.

McMahon’s claim to fame before joining Trump was running the WWE with her husband, Vince McMahon.

Together, they turned the WWE into an earning machine like nothing we have ever seen in the wrestling entertainment industry.

Like the WWE, the SBA thrived under McMahon — Trump even said she did an “outstanding job” — so Carranza will have some big shoes to fill.

Ready for the Job
But Carranza is actually no stranger to the SBA.

During the George W. Bush administration, Carranza served as the deputy administrator of the organization.

This may be why Trump did not take very long to fill this vacancy, as he has some other positions in his administration.

He clearly has had his eye on Carranza for some time.

Of his new SBA pick, Trump tweeted earlier this week: “Jovita was a great Treasurer of the United States – and I look forward to her joining my Cabinet!”

The Democrats aren’t giving up on their investigations of President Trump. With collusion a dead end, Democrats are now clamoring for Trump’s tax returns, apparently convinced that they will find evidence of a crime.

Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee requested Trump’s tax returns amid a flurry of subpoenas aimed at uncovering alleged conflicts of interest in Trump’s business and evidence of wrongdoing in the Robert Mueller’s report, which Democrats demanded in full.

Democrats say they want to see Trump’s tax returns to ensure that the IRS is enforcing the law fairly, with possible questions including whether Trump evaded payroll taxes by hiring illegal immigrants at one of his golf courses. The request set up an immediate partisan fight between Democrats and the White House.

Democrats clamor for Trump’s tax returns
Democratic Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) issued a request Wednesday to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig for six years of Trump’s tax returns, setting off a showdown between Trump and House Democrats. President Trump has maintained that he’s prevented by an ongoing audit from releasing his returns. He immediately said that he would not be “inclined” to release the returns “until such time as I’m not under audit.”

All presidents and vice presidents are placed under mandated audit, but Democrats want to know whether Trump’s businesses, including his golf courses, are part of that review by the IRS. Democrats think that Trump’s business returns contain evidence of illegality that Trump, and Republicans, are desperate to hide.

“Are they [the IRS] looking at his business returns? Are they looking at the golf courses, are they not?” a Democratic staffer on the committee told the Washington Examiner.


In particular, Democrats want to investigate whether Trump broke payroll tax law by reportedly hiring illegal immigrants to work at his Bedminster golf course. Democrats also want to investigate whether Trump abused a $39.1 million environmental tax break for his New Jersey golf course.

Presidents have long released their returns voluntarily, something Trump did not do during the 2016 campaign. Democrats are seeking tax returns for eight business entities including the Bedminster golf course.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg makes rare public appearance at DC synagogue

Ruth Bader Ginsburg made a rare public appearance at a Jewish synagogue in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.

Ginsburg attended a memorial service for the late Israeli writer Amoz Oz at Temple Sinai. The famously tenacious justice, who returned to the bench last month, was out of public view for weeks as she recovered from her December lung cancer surgery. The liberal icon’s health scares have attracted public attention and even encouraged some conspiracy mongering that she had in fact died.

Ginsburg did not make any remarks or talk to the media at the event. She reportedly told Oz’s daughter, Fania Oz-Salzberger, that she went to the memorial because she liked her father’s writing.

Fania Oz-Salzberger shared a picture of her and Ginsburg on Twitter. Ginsburg reportedly listened to speeches from Oz-Salzberger, New York Times columnist Roger Cohen and Jeremy Ben Ami, founder of progressive lobby J Street, which helped organize the memorial along with the New Israel Fund and Americans for Peace Now.

Oz died of cancer in December. Ginsburg herself had two cancerous nodules removed from her lungs that same month, and she eventually returned to the Supreme Court in February after several weeks of recovery.

Ginsburg was spotted on camera in February for the first time since her surgery while walking through Reagan National Airport. A reporter for TMZ asked Ginsburg how she was doing.

“I’m doing fine,” she replied simply.

Ginsburg back, but Trump “saving” replacement
The synagogue appearance came not long after Ginsburg returned to the bench after having missed oral arguments for the first time in her career. Her recent health woes have been cause for concern among progressives who fear that president Donald Trump will get a chance to appoint her successor, but the famously tenacious judge returned to work with a vengeance as she issued opinions at an aggressive clip.

Although it looks like RBG isn’t going anywhere, President Trump reportedly already has his mind made up as to her replacement. Axios reported that Trump was “saving” Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill Ginsburg’s seat back when he was pondering who should succeed retired justice Anthony Kennedy in July. Barrett was a favorite with conservatives at the time, but Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh, who was confirmed to the court in October.

“I’m saving her for Ginsburg,” Trump reportedly said of Barrett at the time.

Progressives have expressed hostility at the prospect of Barrett’s appointment given her pro-life views. It would be quite a jarring event indeed for liberals if RBG, an icon to the abortion movement, was succeeded on the bench by a pro-life Catholic

Justice Ginsburg, endearingly referred to by fans as “the Notorious RBG,” is widely cherished by progressives for her work in advancing leftist causes, so much so that Sam Adams recently honored her with a limited-edition IPA.

Trump celebrates success of First Step Act, thanks media for highlighting need for prison reform

At an event touting the success of criminal justice reform legislation, President Trump thanked the media for highlighting the case of Alice Marie Johnson, an ex-convict whose prison sentence Trump commuted last year following a celebrity-backed lobbying effort.

“Thank you for believing in me,” Johnson told Trump at a celebration of ex-convicts released under president Trump’s criminal justice reform law, the First Step Act. The president was in a buoyant mood as he took the podium to thank the media for bringing public attention to her story.

Trump was joined by Johnson and a number of other ex-convicts released under the legislation at an emotional event at the White House to celebrate his administration’s criminal justice reform efforts. Trump announced that he wants to do more to help formerly incarcerated Americans stay out of jail with a second prison reform package, the Second Step Act, aimed at reducing unemployment rates for ex-convicts.

Trump promises additional reforms
Trump hailed the First Step Act as an example of Americans working together across political divides to prove that “America believes in redemption” whether achieved through the use of sentence commutations or perhaps via his own presidential pardon power. Redemption was indeed the theme Monday as emotional former inmates rose to share their stories.

“Two months ago, I was in a prison cell. And I’m in the White House. That’s continuing to make America great again,” said ex-inmate Gregory Allen.

The East Room was full of beaming faces as the president embraced a visibly emotional Johnson, who served 21 years in prison before Trump commuted her sentence last spring. Johnson seized the opportunity to thank the president for showing clemency. Trump commuted Johnson’s sentence in a separate, highly publicized case before his criminal justice reform package made it through Congress last December.


“I want to thank our incredible president, President Donald John Trump,” Johnson said. “I just told him I finally get a chance to hug you and properly say thank you for believing in me. And I’d like to thank all of the advocates who have fought so long for me, who have been working behind the scenes to magnify my case.”

Trump’s action on Johnson’s case occurred after Kim Kardashian lobbied on her behalf in a meeting with Trump last year. Johnson, who attended Trump’s State of the Union address, also thanked the media for “being kind to me.”

Trump was in an ebullient mood as he leaned in and quipped, “Are you sure?” prompting chuckles from the audience. Trump followed up on Johnson’s thank-you with an unusual expression of gratitude to the media. “Alice said ‘I want to thank the media.’ I sort of bent over and said, ‘Are you sure?’ And I do too. I think it’s fantastic. That’s great,” he said.

Second Step Act
Congress passed the First Step Act in December after overcoming opposition from some hardline Republicans, and Trump signed it into law. The law includes reforms in the realm of mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenses, and it targets disparities in sentencing for crack and powder cocaine offenses. It also provides rehabilitation programs including jobs training and drug treatment to help ex-convicts stay out of jail.



Trump hailed the First Step Act, which he said has led to the release of 500 inmates so far, but added that he will do more to help ex-convicts adjust to life after prison. Citing statistics showing that the unemployment rates are five times higher for ex-cons, Trump said his administration will aim to cut that rate into the single digits within five years. The White House said Trump’s budget would include $500 million to help former inmates find work and reintegrate to society.

“Today, I’m announcing that the Second Step Act will be focused on successful reentry and reduced unemployment for Americans with past criminal records, and that’s what we’re starting right away,” Trump said, adding that his administration would “encourage employers to adopt second chance hiring practices.”

Trump was optimistic as he bid good luck to the former inmates at the gathering.

“You’re gonna have an incredible future,” he said.
