Re: Keith China Nanjing
Praise God, he has worked in both our lives and is working to restore our marriage. Continue to pray that I have no emotional outbursts. Please pray that our love would be rekindled, we have made a strong covenant to talk to each other, but most importantly to pray together.
Continue to pray that God would continue to provide everything we need materially speaking.
Please pray for our daughter, who will receive her teaching exam results in early March. Please pray that God would open up a job for her.
Please pray for Joy, my six-year-old online student, still struggling with a bad cold.
Please pray for us as we celebrate Chinese new year
Continue to pray for my little website, please visit as often as you can. A sister website focusing solely on prayer, will be opening soon.
Continue to pray for our neighbours, that we would be able to reach out to them.

JOSHUA 5
13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am, I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?
15 And the captain of the Lord's host said unto Joshua, loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon, thou stand is holy. And Joshua did so.
WORSHIPPING BEFOR WARFARE
The Vision of the Lord: It happened to Moses and now it was happening to Joshua.
In Chapter 3 of Exodus, Moses had an encounter with God before he went back to Egypt. In the Old Testament God “appeared” to those who He called. He did not use email or social media. He showed up in a physical manifestation. These appearances of God served two purposes:
First, it proved to the one being called that God was real; second, it gave the one being called the authority to act on behalf of God. This happened to Gideon, and Isaiah.
The apostle Paul in Acts 9 met the risen Lord Jesus before he was commissioned to preach the gospel to the Gentiles.
In this passage, Joshua has an encounter with the commander of the Lord's army. Some say that this was an encounter with Jesus. There are two reason to believe this: First, when Joshua bows down to worship, the Lord of Host does not prevent him from doing so; second, the Lord of host tells Joshua to take off his shoes, because he is standing on holy ground. This same command was given by God when He appeared to Moses at Mount Horeb.
Every servant of the Lord has to have an encounter with the Lord before they enter into ministry. We all need to meet God personally, we need to stand on holy ground and then and only then can we go out and fight battles for the Lord. Our holy ground is the Bible. Every time we open the Word of God, God appears to us, and we are standing on holy ground.
Don't go out and fight without first meeting with God in prayer. He is your strength.
When Joshua realized that he was in the presence of the Lord, he bowed down and worship. To bow down to God in worship is to acknowledge that He is worthy of worship, that He is holy, and that we submit ourselves to His will.
Remember Samson shook himself, he thought he could get away with not meeting and spending time with God…the result? He lost his two eyes! And like Samson, when we try to do God’s work without God, we lose sight of his work, as we try to do it, our way, instead of his way.
Before God used Joshua to conquer the nations, He appeared to him to encourage and strengthen him. And God wants to do the same for us. Don’t make a move until God moves in your life. Be blessed.
God bless you

Acts 4
14 But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition.
IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE
The disciples were standing in front of the council of the Jews, they had just told them that there was salvation in No one but Jesus vs 12, so that the whole council was amazed, they realised that they had spent time with Jesus vs 13
But here is evidence, they cannot deny, the man who was lame was standing beside them healed.
People can dispute our arguments, they can dispute our doctrine, they cannot dispute a changed life, in the following verses they said that this was a notable miracle which they cannot deny.
People can deny anything, but they cannot deny the power of a changed life.
We stand before people as healed people, we were without hope, we were dead in our sins, we were sinners walking about in graveclothes, but now we are free and healed.
People will not be able to say anything to a changed life, that is the power of a changed life.
Paul says to the Corinthians in his first letter, chapter 6,
Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,[c] 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revellers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

We were once thieves, drunkards and worse, but now our lives are changed, we are justified and are being changed from glory to glory.
There is no answer to that!
Amen
God Bless you

If you have any friends, who would like to receive my devotions, please ask them to email me at this address and thanks for sharing with me and my family.
First of all, I wish to make a heartfelt request for a brother in Christ, Dirk and his family, he is from Holland and his wife and son are Chinese, all of them are saved thank God. He needs healing for various medical issues relating to his nervous system. He is a talented Composer and arranger of Music, he is self-taught, he has a studio in his home. Recently, he has added music to my devotions, enabling them to be even more of a blessing. Due to health issues, he only has his wife's income to depend on, she works in a factory, for 10-12 hours per day. He is able to help churches and Indvidual's record and arrange music. If you know any ministries or people, who needs Dirk's unique talent, please email me and I will pass on your message to him.
Please pray for Rose, one of our students, her score is the lowest in her class and her mother is thinking of taking her to a psychologist, please pray that they put their trust in Jesus and we are able to help her both spiritually and in learning English.
Continue to pray for our church, Easter is coming up. Please pray for many opportunities to share the gospel.
Please pray for our house group meetings on Friday evening at 7.30pm, 5 groups. Please pray that more will be established.
Please pray that all spiritual strongholds' will be broken down in people's lives, there are many attacks on many church members, especially on me at the weekend.
Please pray for unity, as each group leader, wants to do their own thing.
Please pray for the men of the church, that they would be activated into service.
Please pray for our little Sunday school.

GUEST DEVOTION
CONTRACT OR COVENANT
From: Karen Parrish
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh… Genesis 2:24.”
Why did I get married? When contemplating marriage, one should ask, "Will we make a good team?"
Why do we do a wedding ceremony? There is not an authorized version of the ceremony, and yet why do unchurched people want to get married in a "church?" Usually, they get married in a church because they are "suppose to; we need God's grace if this marriage is going to be any good."
There are 3 phases to the ceremony---1-brought woman to the man (leaving) 2-cleaving-cutting the apron strings, along with parents' blessings of support and prayer 3-pronouncement of a new home.
The man initiates the covenant because it is God who initiated the first covenant with us----the man bears the greater responsibility for the relationship---ouch guys, we have the greater responsibility to seeing our marriage covenant is kept.
When one sees cracks in the marriage, just as in cracks in our ceilings and walls, we need to check the foundation. Marriage is not a contract, because contracts are based on "mistrust." Marriage is based on a covenant as the one in Genesis 15. The animals were cut in two, this required witnesses (which is why there need to be witnesses at a marriage), and then the people (bride and groom) pass between the halved animals (the congregation). To break a contract is never good, but to break a covenant, the words implied are "I am a liar and not to be trusted in anything I say."
Most people have no idea what they have done when they get married.
THERE IS HOPE -- based on the book of Hosea, just as God saw the Children of Israel rebel and fall away, so God woos us back to Him when we have sinned, and please know God does forgive and CAN heal broken marriages.
It is no wonder so many marriages fall apart today because it is viewed by most as a contract. Since we are humans, we know we cannot keep that marriage together except by the glue of Jesus Christ. Life is so often tough, but when we, as couples weather those storms with Jesus Christ, we will remain standing in Christ Jesus.
My husband is my gift from God, just as I am his gift. Yes, he saddens my heart, just as I sadden his, but we have a covenant with God, and He has helped us through every crisis in our marriage we have had. I heard a couple say the other day that had been married 68 years say, "No, I never thought of divorcing my mate, but I did think of murdering a time or two." This is humorous to all of us, these are God-given emotions and when we lay them on the altar, God can give us the ability to cope with whatever circumstances we are in. I praise God for my mate and pray our love will reflect the love of Christ wherever we go.
I wish to thank you for all your prayers for us and our little church, we covet earnestly your prayers and am so thankful, as you are our partners in the gospel.

Please share these prayer requests with all your friends, and if you are receiving this for the first time and wish to receive my devotions, please email me at keitherichobkirk@hotmail.com
We need to pray fervently for the country of Japan, this is a country, well known by us, for its technical innovation.
But its people need Christ, the church is small and weak and very inward looking. Many of the pastors are over worked as many lay people are not activated into ministry. Please pray that God would stir the church and grant that revival would come to the church.
Please pray for the many areas of Japan that are un-reached, thousands of villages and towns have no evangelical church, please pray that every place would be touched by the gospel.
Please pray that the gospel would touch the youth of Japan, this is an ageing nation, young people are becoming less and less.
Many of the older people in Japan are trapped in the Shinto religion, please pray they would find true freedom in Christ.
Please pray for this land, they are in great need. The gospel has never made a real breakthrough, please pray for this
Thank you

Christians: None Known
These people believe in the spirit world and worship their ancestors, they have no knowledge of the Saviour. How the words of Romans chapter 10, should resonate in our ears, you can't go to them, but you can pray for them. Doing nothing means you are sending them to hell without a single prayer.
They have no resources in their dialect/language, they are truly without hope. But the fields are white for harvest, please pray that God would touch people to GO to them.
They live in Guangxi province; this province needs a mighty move of God. Please pray God would move on the churches in revival power. Please pray for a mighty revival in this province, it is one of the most difficult to reach.

Re: Keith China Nanjing
Special notice, it's Christmas and so I would ask at this time, that you don't forget your brothers and sisters in China. Christmas is not celebrated officially, but many churches including ours will have celebrations and they need God's protection. Please pray for this and for many to come to know Christ personally. This is always the most dangerous time of year for the Chinese church, we are told to watch and pray, don't let your guard down, the devil never takes a holiday.
KEEP CHINA IN YOUR PRAYERS
PLEASE PRAY FOR TUNISIA
Challenges for Prayer

https://prayercast.com/tunisia.html
Please pray for the small and nominal evangelical church. The church is growing, but it needs training and leadership.
Please pray that the government would grant the church recognition, and land to build their own church buildings.
Please pray for the calling of more tent-making Christians. There are opportunities
There are needy groups, especially the youth. The Arab spring impacted the youth, please pray that their hearts would be open to the gospel.
Women have more freedom than in many Arab countries. Please pray that many women would come to know the Saviour and that Christian families would be established.
The south of the country is a desert spiritually, Sfax, Tunis, Gabes and Gafsa are needy cities.
The Berber community were touched by the gospel once, but now need reaching again.
Kairouan is one of the holiest cities in Islam, may these seekers find JESUS.
SAT-7 is openly watched in Tunisia. Please pray that much fruit would be gained through these programmes.
Pray for Tunisian communities overseas, that they would be reached with the gospel.
In earlier centuries the Christian Church was wide spread, producing such leaders as Tertullian and Cyprian. Schism, heresy, failures to put roots deep into the local culture and to translate the Bible into local languages, foreign invasions and finally Islam brought about its demise. There are about 500 committed indigenous believers today, but only one-third of those meet together regularly for worship. Pray that a living, growing Church might become a reality again in this land.
Reaching Tunisians by other means.
Scripture translation into the Tunisian dialect of Arabic is in progress, an important task if the gospel is to be clearly heard and understood by all Tunisians. Pray for Tunisian attitudes about their own language, which many view as inferior to modern Arabic.
Some Christian literature is now sold openly, but is not widely available. Pray that the Bible and Christian books might become more widely distributed through bookshops, and that Christian literature be made available throughout the land.
Satellite TV and radio broadcasts are highly effective in reaching Tunisians. There are many programmes in Arabic, and they can reach to the most isolated and private corners of the country.
The JESUS films is available in two translations - Standard Arabic and Tunisian Arabic. Pray for the wide dissemination of this film and the development of a wider ministry of Christian cassettes and videos in Tunisian Arabic. The Passion of the Christ is also in wide circulation.
More than 6.5 million tourists visit Tunisia each year, including those from other Arab states. Music festivals often feature gospel choirs from abroad. Pray for a ministry to Muslim tourists and also for sensitive sharing opportunities for Christians who come as tourists.

Disdaining God BY David Ettinger
The world disdains God.
I am defining the word “world” as this earth’s “system” as ordered by Satan. Because Satan reigns in the hearts of unsaved men and women, they are naturally opposed to the things of God as well as those things which contradict the philosophy of the world system.
“Those things” are displayed in the brief but radiant Psalm 8. Let’s look at four truths asserted in this Psalm which oppose the world’s satanic ideology and see why the world hates it.
God Glorified
The opening verse reads: “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth.”
Psalm 8 passionately sings God’s praises, giving Him the glory, He deserves. Such atheists as writer Isaac Asimov must have reviled it. He wrote: “To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today.” Another reviler would have been preeminent atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair, who said: “There is no God. There’s no heaven. There’s no hell. There are no angels. When you die, you go in the ground, the worms eat you.”
Yet Psalm 8 deflates such derision without apology, constraint, or compromise as it exalts: “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, who have displayed Your splendour above the heavens!”
God Proclaimed as Creator
Verse 3 reads: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained …”
The Hebrew word for “ordained” is kuwn, which can also be translated as “established” or “fashioned.” To “fashion” something is to “make” it. God here is proclaimed as the “fashioner” of the heavens, again without constraint, explanation, or hesitance: He is the Creator. Period.
Upon such a declaration do scorn and disgust thrive. Judith Hayes, author of The Happy Heretic, stoutly states: “If we are going to teach ‘creation science’ as an alternative to evolution, then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction.” I doubt she is keen on Psalm 8.
Nor is evolutionist Scott D. Weitzenhoffer, who penned this ditty: “Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon; it knocks the pieces over, [poops] on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory.”
Yet Psalm 8 rejects such detractors, proudly stating with conviction that God is the creator of all things, and that those who believe it need not recoil because of it.
Man Elevated
Psalm 8:4-5 says: “What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty!”
The human race is the acme of God’s creation. The heavens, oceans, and mountains are breathtaking, but pale by comparison to humanity.
This is because God created humanity in His own image (Genesis 1:27), meaning He endowed us with the ability to think His thoughts, respond to His love, and joyfully obey Him.
However, there are those who see humanity differently. British diplomat David Ormsby Gore is one of them: “It would indeed be a tragedy if the history of the human race proved to be nothing more than the story of an ape playing with a box of matches on a petrol dump.”
And Hungarian-British author Arthur Koestler wrote: “The disastrous history of our species indicates the futility of all attempts at a diagnosis which do not take into account the possibility that homo sapiens is a victim of one of evolution’s countless mistakes.”
Mistakes? Psalm 8 contrarily declares man as the product of an all-loving, all-knowing, and all-powerful God.
The Human Race in Partnership with God
Verses 6-8 read: “You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.”
God has assigned man to watch over His creation, and in so doing, has made man the most intellectually advanced of His creatures. This partnership – God as Creator, man as caretaker – means that man is superior to all other creatures.
Yet, many see humans and nature as equal. Said German sociologist Theodor W. Adorno: “Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a slaughterhouse and thinks: they’re only animals.” And Native American tribal chief Sitting Bull said: “Every seed is awakened and so has all animal life. It is through this mysterious power that we too have our being, and we therefore yield to our neighbour's, even our animal neighbours, the same right as ourselves, to inhabit this land.”
Such champions of man/nature equality wince at the man-above-all-creation teaching of Psalm 8.
A Final Word of Praise
Psalm 8 closes as it begins: “O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!” (v. 9).
God’s name is to be praised throughout the universe. Even if man chooses not to praise His name, it nonetheless radiates in resplendent majesty. God’s name is indeed majestic, and He gives man the honour of heralding this sacred truth.
Psalm 8 trumpets God’s greatness and glory, and does so proudly and fearlessly. No wonder it is a Psalm the world hates!

Re: Keith China Nanjing
First of all, thank you if you joined us on the 1st October, continue in prayer for China. Please use the request sheet, sent out at the time, if you need any copies, please let me know
There are many unregistered house groups, meeting in homes, all need the protecting hand of God. Please pray for God's protection upon all churches in China and also upon the pastors and church workers.
Many evangelists travel around china , giving their lives for the gospel. Please pray for their protection and for the provision of all their needs
It is now illegal for churches to teach Sunday school; in many provinces this is so. Please pray that the children of China would hear the gospel, recently I was told by two 9 years olds that God didn't exist. Please pray for all Christian children, they are under great pressure to conform to the harmonious society.
Please pray for the universities, atheism and humanism are rampant, but the gospel is still being shared. Please pray that many student gospel groups would be raised up.
In our locality, we have many complexes (over 30 within a two-mile radius), let me explain, these are self-contained communities, in ours, we have 18 blocks with 18 flats in each, in ours, we have nearly 2000 people. Every complex in China, needs to have its bible study group. If we are to reach these people in these communities, it has to be done, by people they know. People in our complex know me, so I can share with them, but others from outside, may not get a hearing.
Although the gospel has made massive progress in China, there remains much ground to be possessed, indeed there are over 450 million who are non-religious and 150 million Buddhists. Please pray that the church, would be mobilised to action and prayer.
Please pray for many people still un-reached, as Hudson Taylor said " the interior of China, is the great prize". May provinces such as Guizhou, Hunan and Gansu, have less Christians, than the coastal provinces
Please pray for our little church, that we would be dynamic, walking in step with the Lord and knowing his guidance and strength.
Please pray for our pastor as he seeks to take care of five churches. Please pray for our bible study at 5.30am every Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday
Please pray for the men of the church, that they would be activated into service
Pray for W and W, recently married, that they would serve alongside us. For couples to come into the church. Please pray for marriages in the church, the few Christian marriages are being seriously attacked by the devil, many of the sisters are married to non-Christians who have varying amounts of tolerance to the gospel, one of our co-workers' husband doesn't like her serving more than two days in the Lords work
Please pray for many people who need a touch for God, please pray for us.
Please pray for F, H , S among the men who truly need to trust Christ
Please pray for P, MW and S, who need life partners
Please surround my wife H and Daughter M with your prayers
Please pray for me

(William Dyer, "Christ's Famous Titles")
"Learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart." Matthew 11:29
Learn humility, from Christ's humility.
For lack of humility, some angels became devils.
Proud sinners are fit companions, for none but proud devils.
When men glory in their pride, God stains the pride of their glory. "The Lord Almighty planned it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to humble all who are renowned on the earth." Isaiah 23:9
The most lowly Christian, is the most lovely Christian.
A believer is like a vessel in the sea: the more it fills, the more it sinks.
None live so humble on earth, as those who live highest in Heaven. See how one of the best of saints looks upon himself as one of the least of saints, "Unto me who am less than the least of all saints," said the great Paul in Ephesians 3:8
The most holy men, are always the most lowly men.
Where humility is the corner-stone, there piety is the top-stone.
The coat of humility, should always be worn on the back of Christianity.
"Clothe yourselves with humility." 1 Peter 5:5
God Almighty has two houses in which He dwells: His city-house, and His country-house.
His city-house is the Heaven of heavens; and
His country-house is the humble and lowly heart.
Isaiah 57:15, "I dwell in the high and holy place," that is, in Heaven, God's city-house; "and also with him who is of a contrite and humble spirit," that is God's country-house.
Humility is a Bethel for God's dwelling-place.
Pride is a Babel for the devil's residence.
If you do not keep pride out of your soul, and your soul out of pride--pride will keep your soul out of Heaven.
I will not say, that a poor man is never proud, but I will say, that a proud man is never godly.
James 4:16, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
The face of piety, shines brightest through the mask of humility.
"Clothe yourselves with humility." Of all garments, humility best fits Christians and best adornstheir profession.
A Christian should look with one eye upon God's grace, to keep him thankful;
and with the other eye upon himself, to keep him mournful.
When you begin to grow proud of your glistening feathers, look down upon your black feet.
[Dyer is here alluding to the fact that most white-feathered swans have black skin underneath. Hence we should not be proud of our outwardly pure appearance, while our hearts are desperately wicked.]
Revelation 4:10, "The twenty-four elders fall down before the throne, and cast down their crowns before Him who sits on the throne." The only way of keeping our crowns on our heads, is the casting them down at Christ's feet.
Alas, sirs, what are you proud of?
Are you proud . . .?
of your riches,
of your honours,
of your relations,
of your beauty,
of your strength?
Alas, alas! these are poor base things to boast in.
Oh, go to the graves of those who have died before you. Are not their bones scattered, their eyes rotted, their flesh consumed, their mouth corrupted. Where now are their ruddy lips, their lovely cheeks, their fluent tongue, their sparkling eyes, their flowing hair? Are they not all gone, as a dream!
And where will you be before long?
And will you be proud of these things?
"I hate pride and arrogance." Proverbs 8:13
"He is able to humble those who walk in pride." Daniel 4:37

SUBEI
POPULATION 2.9 million
EVANGELICALS 6.0%
This group of people is seen as dirty, poor, and uneducated, but God has graciously brought many Subei to Himself. Praise God! Please pray He continues His work of grace.
The Subei people are numerous in Shanghai, often taking the worst and lowest-paying jobs. Please pray that these despised people would become a glorious church greatly used by God.
Many of the younger Subei are atheists. Please pray that many of these will have their hearts melted as they meet the Living and True God.
They have the Bible and many other resources in their language. Please pray that strong churches would be established among them.

Re: Keith China Nanjing
Australia PART 1
Population: 25 Million
Christians: 3 million
Praise God that the current Prime Minister and many prominent public figures have a strong evangelical faith.
Despite steady growth, the Church faces many challenges, due to its multi-cultural focus.
Please pray:
That the Church would rise up and stand up for the truth. Homosexuals and liberals are seeking to work their way into the Church and to dilute the truth.
For a powerful unity based on biblical truth.
For a powerful vision to reach all of Australia and beyond. Much of the Pacific has been reached by Australian missionaries.
Much of the outback of the country is still unreached, and likewise, many small towns are still unreached. Please pray that every town would have an Evangelical church.
Over half a million Chinese have found a home here. Several strong evangelical churches are very active, but many Chinese are un-reached. Please pray for the outreach the Chinese students in the Universities.
Muslims have increased over the past twenty years and they are now seeking to make Australia Muslim. Please pray for outreach to them.
People from Vietnam number over 250,000. Some are Christians, but there is little outreach.
Peoples from Southern and Eastern Europe need to be reached, and many come from countries that are un-reached. Please pray for the communities of Croats, Greeks and Maltese.
Jews number 100,000 and praise God , there are some Messianic believers. Please pray for the work of Jews for Jesus and Christian Witness to Israel.
Please pray for the Australian nationals, that may they be reached with the Gospel.
The cultural landscape of the country is being challenged; please pray that the Gospel would be proclaimed in power and boldness.
Please pray for the three dependent island groups:
Christmas Island
Cocos Islands
Norfolk Island
Please pray that God would work in power in these islands!

Re: Keith China Nanjing
Dear Friends
China is a wonderful country, the gospel has made great strides, but there are still over 1.25 Billion, who haven't put their faith in the precious sacrifice of our Saviour. There are over 100 million, who haven't heard the name of Jesus. There are millions without any access to bibles, Christian literature and other resources.

Tears have a voice!
(Thomas Brooks, "The Crown and Glory of Christianity, or, HOLINESS, the Only Way to Happiness", 1662)
"The Lord has heard the voice of my weeping." Psalm 6:8
Tears have a voice. God has an eye upon a man's tears, as well as upon his prayers. Penitent tears are divine ambassadors, which never return from the throne of grace without answers of grace. Peter said nothing, but went out and wept bitterly--and obtained mercy. Tears are a kind of silent prayers, which will at last prevail for mercy.
A sinner's face never shines so beautiful, as when it is bedewed with penitential tears.
"I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears!" Isaiah 38:5

31 Christian Prisoners Released
Source(s): Release International, Release Eritrea, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, International Christian Concern, Church in Chains
The Eritrean government has released 31 Christians from Mai Serwa prison who were detained without charge or trial for years. It is believed there were 21 men and 10 women in this group, and that none of them were church leaders. At least two of the women were minors when first imprisoned -- one was only 12 years old (age 28 today); and the other was 16 (now 30). This action follows the release of 22 Methodist Christians from another prison in July.
Recently received reports indicate that a total of 54 believers are expected to be released, beginning with those who were imprisoned the longest. The reasons for the release have not been given, though it may be connected to the COVID-19pandemic. For those who have been liberated, however, conditions remain. It is reported that these prisoners are not free to leave the country, and that property deeds were submitted as a guarantee.
Estimates pertaining to the number of Christian prisoners in the country range from 300 to 3,000. Many of these believers have been detained without charge for more than a decade. Some, such as those in the Mai Serwa prison, have been kept in metal shipping containers -- exposed to the desert heat by day and the cold by night. The remaining prisoners may also face beatings and torture due to the officials' attempts to force the renouncement of these believers' faith. A video report with Dr. Berhane from Release Eritrea will be released shortly. An excerpt is available at VOMCanada.com/video/release-eritrea.
Praise God for the release of these believers who have stood firm in the midst of extreme trials. May their endurance be a source of inspiration to other followers of Christ. Please pray that fellow Christians would come alongside those who have been discharged as they now seek the Lord's direction and try to readjust to life outside of prison after spending years in custody. Ask God to touch the hearts of Eritrea's governing authorities, in hopes they will change their ways and encourage true religious harmony in the country. Also pray that the Lord will continue ministering to the many Eritrean believers who are still imprisoned for their faith, as well as the family members suffering alongside them. May these incarcerated believers likewise be acquitted.

A church-run summer camp was raided on August 23rd, resulting in the confiscation of personal and church property, as well as the temporary detention of the pastor and his wife. The police and religious bureau officials claim that the church in Gushi was organizing religious events without authorization. According to one church leader, Wang Guangming, the students were learning music theory when the raid occurred.
Officials affirmed that they were acting upon a report from citizens. Earlier in August, the administration of Gushi issued an official notice encouraging citizens to report any non-approved religious events, offering incentives of $100 CAD. Further details on the persecution of Christians in China can be reviewed at ourcountry report.
Please remember the ministry of Christian camps and churches throughout China, asking God to bless these endeavours to spread the Gospel and encourage people to gather for worship despite the government's organized campaign against them. Pray that the hostility of their opposers will dissipate, allowing these Christians to resume worship in safety and peace. May the country's church leaders be granted the wisdom and strength they need to effectively lead their people -- ultimately yielding a vast spiritual harvest for the glory of our Lord.
Zafar Bhatti Recovers from Heart Attack in Prison
Source(s): Pakistan Christian News, Church in Chains
Zafar Bhatti
Zafar Bhatti has been in prison since 2012 after being charged with sending blasphemous text messages. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2017. Diagnosed with diabetes, the 56-year-old Christian had two minor heart attacks in 2019 and suffers from eyesight problems. It was recently reported that he had another heart attack on September 3rd. Though he received swift medical attention in prison, there are ongoing concerns for his physical and mental health, as well as apprehension over the medical care he is receiving outside of the hospital setting.
Due to threats from fellow inmates, Zafar is presently being held under tight security. His case is under appeal, but the hearings have been repeatedly delayed. (To review a previously posted report on his case, go to this page.) In addition to a brief court meeting that was held on September 10th, in which a medical report was ordered by the judge, Zafar's lawyer was allowed to visit him in prison.
The legal team from Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) reports the good news that Zafar's faith in Christ remains strong and that he is recovering from his recent ailment. Zafar told them that his Saviour will protect him and that "soon I'll be out of the jail." In the meantime, he has asked for Christians around the world to pray that he will be proven innocent and thus released from prison.
Please continue to intercede for Zafar and his wife Nawab Bibi. May the Lord mediate on his behalf, miraculously making a way for his safe release. In the meantime, pray that he will receive proper medical treatment and be kept safe from those in prison who wish him harm. Pray that the hearts of Zafar's opposers will be radically transformed; that they may witness God's light shining through Zafar's life and countenance. As he continues to faithfully express the love and goodness of Christ, may many others in Pakistan come to a point of repentance and salvation.

PAKISTAN: Sentenced to Death for Blasphemy Sources: Aljazeera, Deutsche Welle, Daily Mail
On September 8th, a court in Lahore ruled that Asif was guilty of blasphemy, sentencing him to three years in prison for "misusing" his phone and fining him $400 CAD. After serving his sentence, he is to be put to death by hanging. Asif rejects the charges against him and intends to appeal the ruling. On the other side, Muhammad denies that he had ever pressured Asif to convert. At present, more than 80 people are in Pakistani prisons on charges of blasphemy. The contentious law drew international outrage in the case of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother who was sentenced to death over alleged blasphemous remarks but finally acquitted in 2018 after nine years of imprisonment (read more). Despite Asia's release, the ongoing threats of angered civilians made it necessary for her to flee the country to an undisclosed location in Canada where immigrated family members were awaiting her arrival. Even when not convicted, such allegations alone can pose risk of endangerment to accused Christians and their families. For further reports on the various perils facing believers in Pakistan, go to our country report. Remember Asif, along with his family, during this time of danger and suffering. Pray that the courts will rule justly on his behalf and that the government will curb such abuses by revoking the country's blasphemy laws, which have been frequently exploited to target vulnerable Christian minorities. May religious freedom be brought to the nation so believers can live in safety and peace among the other members of their communities. In the meantime, please continue to prayerfully lift up the many Pakistanis who are still imprisoned for their faith, along with those like Asia Bibi who have been forced to live in fear beyond the prison walls because of these allegations.
SRI LANKA: Disruptions by Mob Violence Source: National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka
On July 19th, a group of 45 people, including a member of the Hindu temple's board of trustees, forced their way into the Jesus Witness Church in Kommanthurai soon after the worship service had concluded. During the attack, the pastor and his family were assaulted and chairs were broken. The pastor's mobile phone was also damaged after he attempted to record the incident, which has since been reported to the police. On August 8th, a funeral service in Palliyadithona was halted when approximately 50 villagers raided the cemetery and demanded that the funeral be conducted according to Hindu rites. The pastor called the police and the burial was finally able to take place two hours later, under the watchful protection of several officers. While Christians can officially gather for worship in Sri Lanka, the tensions caused by opposing community members have become more complex. These followers of Christ are now finding themselves caught between the predominantly Buddhist Sinhalese population and the mainly Hindu Tamils. More information on the persecution of Christians in Sri Lanka is available here. Please pray for the emotional, physical, and spiritual protection of Christians in Sri Lanka as they seek to practise their faith by faithfully gathering for worship despite the threat of danger. As they demonstrate the love and grace of God, may their commitment to the teachings of Jesus serve as a powerful testimony to those around them. Pray that the hearts of all people groups in Sri Lanka -- including those opposing the churches -- will be open to the Gospel so they too will understand the truth of God's Word and turn in faith to Christ.
INDIA: Christians Face Rising Threats Sources: CBN, International Christian Concern, Morning Star News
A recent incident in Uttar Pradesh illustrates the severity of the hate crimes inspired by religious intolerance against Christians in India. On August 21st, "Prasanna Kumar" (whose name has been changed for security reasons) was attacked and brutally beaten. Claiming that Pastor Kumar was forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity, ten men pulled him from his motorcycle and threw him to the ground, where they relentlessly kicked him and beat him with wooden clubs. The attack became so savage that Pastor Kumar thought he would not survive. "God gave me the grace to accept even death," he proclaimed. However, the thought of leaving his wife and young daughter was excruciating. After physically assaulting him for nearly two hours, the men finally left, promising to kill the pastor if he ever returned to the village. After Pastor Kumar was found, members of his congregation assisted him to the police station. However, local officers refused to file a complaint, claiming he was attempting to register a false report. Finally, after the intervention of a church leader from outside the district, a report was filed but to date no action has been taken against the attackers. Shifting the blame from the offenders to the victims is not uncommon. In Badaguda, Odisha state, followers of traditional tribal religions have blamed the prayers of Christians for driving away their gods. In one instance, the village headman told a pastor: "When you pray, our gods leave us. So you must stop praying. We will not let you conduct prayers inside the village." The Christians erected a temporary shelter outside the village, but it was destroyed and the church members were beaten. Rather than attempting to stop the attackers, however, the police have threatened to arrest the Christians for "disturbing the peace" should they continue to gather for worship. For more on the persecution committed against believers in India, go to our country report. May the Lord mightily use His people in India as bright lights amid the darkness surrounding them. Pray that He will strengthen and protect His followers as they rebuild their Christian communities, share their stories of faith, and encourage others who have experienced the trauma of persecution. Ask Him to specifically intervene on Pastor Kumar's behalf, fully healing and strengthening him. Additionally, intercede for the authorities in India, that they will cease to ignore the mob violence directed towards Christians by taking a stand against discrimination and intolerance -- using the law to protect the rights of all India's citizens.
