Over 5,000 former Israeli defense officers have urged U.S. President Joe Biden in a letter to reject a renegotiated nuclear deal with Iran, Fox News Digital reported on Tuesday.

The letter, from the Israel Defense and Security Forum, states that the current draft accord of the deal gives Iran a clear pathway to nuclear weapons.
“Despite your administration’s repeated declared commitment to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons, this agreement creates a clear legal pathway for Iran to obtain nuclear weapons by 2031, while denying the signatories any tools to prevent that eventuality,” the letter states.

“The deal will unleash a regional nuclear arms race, in which states like Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other Sunni states will seek to either develop or acquire nuclear weapons to mitigate the Iranian threat,” it continues.

The letter was sent after reports emerged last week suggesting that a new deal was on the verge of being signed, in part because Iran had withdrawn some conditions.

The letter notes that the new agreement would unfreeze funds to Iran, and that the country has previously used such a windfall to export terror and instability throughout the region and beyond. The promise of a future nuclear umbrella will act as a force multiplier for the Islamic Republic, it states.

“It remains our view that a credible military threat in combination with crippling economic sanctions and the political resolve to act militarily, if necessary, is the most effective manner to address the Iranian threat,” the letter reads.

Believed to be the birthplace of Jesus Christ, Bethlehem is revered in the Christian faith and attracts more than a million pilgrims every year who come to pray at the famous Church of the Nativity. Here, visitors queue daily by the hundreds to enter a small rock grotto within which a 14-point silver star bears the words, “Hic de Virgine Maria Jesus Christus natus est,” meaning “Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary.”

Seventy years ago, a significant number of Christians also called Bethlehem their permanent home, with the population of the West Bank city and surrounding villages nearly 90 percent Christian.

In 2016, the then-Mayor of Bethlehem Vera Baboun warned that figure had dropped to 12 percent, or a mere 11,000 people.

Across the Palestinian Authority-administered West Bank, there are reported to be fewer than 50,000 Christians remaining, while in Gaza, which is ruled by the US-designated terrorist group Hamas, just 1,100 Christians are left.
The crisis facing Christians in the Holy Land has not gone unnoticed.

Last December, the British Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby jointly penned an opinion piece with Palestinian Anglican Bishop Hosam Naoum in which they lamented the decline of Christians in the birthplace of the religion, arguing that the actions of “radical groups” were responsible.

They explained that such acts had included the desecration of churches, in addition to physical and verbal attacks on priests, monks and worshipers.

Yet, Archbishop Welby and Bishop Naoum preferred to ignore the stark reality on the ground and blamed the precipitous decline of Christians to mysterious “fringe radical groups” and growing “settler communities.”

Such linguistic inexactitude masks the real reason Christians are disappearing in the Holy Land, which, according to global Christian charity Open Doors, is actually the result of “Islamic oppression.”

Warning that Christians were leaving the West Bank in droves, the charity revealed that “Islamic extremist militants” were leaving Christians in fear of attacks and said the situation was even more perilous for converts to the religion who face even worse brutality.

Another international nonprofit, The Voice of the Martyrs, which defends the rights of persecuted Christians, has collated numerous accounts of appalling torture meted out by the Palestinian Authority on its Christian minority.

One such testimony is that of Saif, a Christian convert from Islam who lives near Bethlehem. He described how after being labeled a “Zionist infidel” by the Muslim muezzin (crier) over the mosque loudspeaker, he was summoned to the local police station. For weeks, he endured horrific torture, including being hung upside down for hours on end, threats of crucifixion and violent interrogations.

Despite being released, Palestinian Authority forces continued to target him and eventually, Saif was forced to flee to Israeli-controlled Jerusalem using a pass he had been issued for his work as a contractor.

In the Gaza Strip, the situation for Christians is even bleaker under the rule of Islamist group Hamas.

This tiny minority’s plight is exemplified in the horrific tale of Rami Ayyad, who had owned Gaza’s last Christian bookstore until it was firebombed just months after Hamas seized power in 2006 and imposed Islamic Sharia Law.

Ayyad was kidnapped, tortured and later murdered by an assailant who walked away unpunished despite his identity reportedly being known to authorities.

The demise of Christianity in Palestinian-controlled areas is part of a more general pattern of Christians disappearing in the Middle East and North Africa.

In 2019, a UK-commissioned report laid bare the scale of the problem, describing their dwindling numbers as “coming close to genocide.”

“Forms of persecution ranging from routine discrimination in education, employment and social life up to genocidal attacks against Christian communities have led to a significant exodus of Christian believers from this region since the turn of the century,” the report said.

“In countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia the situation of Christians and other minorities has reached an alarming stage. In Saudi Arabia there are strict limitations on all forms of expression of Christianity including public acts of worship. There have been regular crackdowns on private Christian services.”

The situation faced by Palestinian Christians is dire. Moreover, the situation will never improve if church leaders like Archbishop Welby fail to acknowledge its root cause.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s website posted an interview with Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who argued that the Palestinians and Hezbollah must launch a “ground war.”

According to a report by MEMRI, Salami explained that this is because “while missiles are excellent for deterrence or for waging static wars, they do not liberate the lands.”

He said that despite having access to advanced weaponry, Israel’s army lacked the same level of religious fervor and belief that characterizes the resistance movement and the Palestinians. The interview was posted on Aug. 19.

Salami proclaimed that “it is vital to continue the jihad. … The struggle is spreading within the Occupied Territories … hundreds of thousands of missiles are deployed against Israel, and they can attack.”

He added: “The Palestinians are ready today for ground warfare. Israel’s biggest weakness is ground warfare.”

After major attacks on Iranian installations in Syria, Iran has now suddenly decided to take their time in renewing the nuclear deal the Biden administration so desperately wants.


Why now, when they are so close?

Because at the end of the day, if the Biden administration cannot stop Israel and her Gulf allies from working together to decimate Iran’s nuclear program by way of preemptive strikes, then what good is the deal Biden is offering?

Despite the fact that the Biden Administration wants to hold back Israel, it lacks the will to really get it done. Israel’s geopolitical position is far stronger today than it was 4 years ago. The Abraham Accords has opened up the doors in Jerusalem to the Arab world and it look likes they are not slamming shut anytime soon.

With America’s foreign policy in disarray, its economic situation precarious, and internal discord one move away from civil war, Iran is now thinking twice about signing anything.

Financially, Iran may get some goodies in the near term, but a deal, unless there are protections against and Israel-Sunni attack makes it ineffetive.

All training involving armored combat vehicles has been halted in the IDF for the time being.

An IDF soldier serving in the Armored Corps was killed during a training accident on Tuesday night in the north of the country, the IDF announced.
Sgt. Eitan Pichman, 19, of Be’er Sheva, a member of the 7th Armored division, was killed in an accident on the Golan Heights. Circumstances are as yet unclear.

During a company exercise, while the soldier was in the tank, for an unknown reason, the soldier was hit and severely injured in his head. After resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead.

The commander of the Northern Command, Major General Amir Baram, held a preliminary investigation at the site of the accident.

As part of the initial investigation, he appointed Lt. Col. Shaul Israeli, commander of the 205th Brigade, as head of the team of experts who will investigate the circumstances that led to the unfortunate event. The team’s conclusions will be presented to the Chief of Staff.

The military police also opened an investigation into the incident, at the end of which its findings will be forwarded to the military attorney’s office for examination.
All training involving armored combat vehicles has been halted in the IDF for the time being.
“The IDF shares in the family’s grief and will continue to accompany it,” the military stated Wednesday.

A firefight between IDF troops and Palestinian terrorists broke out in Nablus (Shechem) on Tuesday morning, hours after Israelis visiting a Jewish holy site near the city were shot and wounded.

After an hours-long standoff which saw Israeli security officials surround a home in the city, three wanted men surrendered to troops.

Social media footage from the hours before the arrest showed the father of one of the men urging his son to surrender, speaking to him through a bullhorn on the balcony of a nearby home.

“You’re going to be killed if [you don’t surrender,]” a clip of the standoff translated by Channel 12 showed the father saying.

Nabil al-Swalhi and Nihad Uwais were identified by Arabic-language media as two of the men who were arrested. The third was not identified.

Channel 12 reported that IDF soldiers fired a shoulder-held missile into the home to create a point of entry.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, two Israelis who were visiting Joseph’s Tomb, which is located on the outskirts of Nablus in Samaria, were wounded by gunfire from Palestinian terrorists.

One of the victims, a 17-year-old boy, was evacuated to the hospital via a military helicopter, and is said to be in moderate condition. The other wounded man was transported to a hospital in an ambulance.

Hezbollah’s September Deadline Could Lead To War With Israel

Although most Israelis fear Sept. 1 may bring with it a teachers' strike, there is another reason we should be concerned: A possible war on Israel's northern border in the wake of the most severe threats since 2006.

The very fact that Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah has emerged from the bunker where he has been hiding most of the past 16 years suggests that the effect of the crushing blow he was dealt in the 2006 Second Lebanon War has somewhat faded. Nasrallah's swagger means he is convinced that the next flare-up with Israel will be very different from the one that saw him run into hiding in 2006.

Nasrallah is not the adventurous or gambling type. His many years at the helm have taught him how to spout lofty rhetoric while adopting a cautious posture. He is not going to suddenly launch a surprise missile barrage on Tel Aviv. On the other hand, he is apparently willing to play with fire, convinced he can control the blaze.

The threats he has been sounding are very clear: If Israel goes ahead with its plan to extract gas from the Karish field in the Mediterranean Sea without resolving its border dispute with Lebanon, the Shi'ite terrorist group will act to stop it, even if this means a full-scale conflagration.

To show just how serious he is, Nasrallah has sent drones towards the Karish floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), and may very well do so again, or perhaps even escalate things by firing rockets in its general direction.

This poses a direct threat to Israel's sovereignty and strategic assets. It could entail much greater consequences than just breaching the land border or targeting soldiers on it, which usually leads to rather limited hostilities that Israel chooses to contain.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz recently warned that Israel would retaliate for any provocation, and is ready for any campaign in Lebanon should the need arise. 

Senior Israeli officials have assessed that things could evolve into "multi-day" fighting, which is another way of saying a major confrontation along the border. But if this is the conventional wisdom, it suggests Israeli policymakers have yet to learn the lessons of 2006. "Days of fighting" ultimately morph into war, something for which Israel is ill-prepared.

Those who envision a multi-day offensive that would have Nasrallah fire missile barrages at Israeli cities and strategic assets while Israel responds by just destroying a few weapon depots or assassinating a few officials are kidding themselves. 

In 2006, Israel showed mercy toward Lebanon, but this policy did not stand the test of time, because Lebanon and Hezbollah are one and the same. Israel failed to realize that by targeting the Lebanese state it would have been able to hurt the Shi'ite terrorist group.

Nevertheless, the Israeli aerial onslaught on Hezbollah's Dahiya stronghold in Beirut--despite its disorderly approach--did have an impact. 

If Nasrallah wants war, Israel should prepare to go all in. But if Israel's threats as to the catastrophic impact on Lebanon do not materialize once the war breaks out, Nasrallah will interpret it as yet another "divine victory," laying the groundwork for yet another flare-up down the road.

Last month, Gazprom, a Russian state-owned multinational energy corporation,  and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) signed a $40 billion memorandum of understanding (MoU) that would enable the two countries to dominate the world market for natural gas and set the prices. 

As of 2019, with sales over $120,000,000,000 representing twelve percent of the global output of natural gas, Gazprom was ranked as the world’s largest publicly listed natural gas company and the largest company in Russia by revenue.

According to the Iran Petroleum Ministry, Iran’s proved natural gas reserves represent about 17.8% of the world’s total reserves, the world’s second-largest reserves after Russia. Iran still has enormous potential for new significant gas discoveries.

The impact of the alliance is expected to increase as the use of natural gas is on the rise.

“Gas is widely seen as the optimal product in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, so controlling as much of the global flow of that will be the key to energy-based power over the next ten to twenty years,” according to a statement last week from Hamid Hosseini, chairman of Iran’s Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Products Exporters’ Union, in Tehran, after the Gazprom-NIOC MoU had been signed. “Now the Russians have come to the conclusion that the consumption of gas in the world will increase and the tendency towards consumption of LNG has increased, and they alone are not able to meet the world’s demand, so there is no room left for gas competition [between Russia and Iran].”

The two countries are focused on opposing the US.

“The winner of the Russia-Ukraine war is the United States, and it will capture the European market, so if Iran and Russia can reduce the influence of the United States in the oil, gas, and product markets by working together, it will benefit both countries,” he added.

This anti-American alliance is, of course, a result of Russia’s faltering war in Ukraine. Isolated from Western nations by sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin has turned to other nations in a similar situation. Iran clearly falls into this category. This was underscored on July 19 when Putin paid official visits to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Turkey’s  President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. 

In addition to the gas deal, Putin acquired drones for use in Ukraine from Iran. Intelligence organizations in many countries have speculated that, in return, Russia will help facilitate an Iranian nuclear weapons program. As Putin said at the “Army-2022” international military conference, “[We] are ready to offer our allies the most modern types of weapons.”

This was recently emphasized when Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that his military’s SU-24 warplanes had been modified to carry nuclear weapons and that he would not hesitate to use them =if the Western nations interfered with Russia’s war in Ukraine.

With the new ga deal, Russia has a powerful interest in a strong, even nuclear-armed, Iran. Given Iran’s aggressive policy of regional expansionism, a nuclear prospect is deeply concerning. Given Iran’s Shiite fanaticism, the targets of their intended aggression are clear. As the ‘little Satan,’ Israel is clearly in the crosshairs. But Saudi Arabia, the leader of the Sunni world, is also an enemy of the Iranian regime. 

While Iran’s nuclear weapons program may (or may not) have been hindered by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, its development of intercontinental ballistic missiles has not. And this should be of grave concern to the “great Satan,” i.e. the United States.

Iran’s president warned Monday that any roadmap to restore Tehran’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers must see international inspectors end their probe on man-made uranium particles found at undeclared sites in the country.

In a rare news conference marking his first year in office, President Ebrahim Raisi also issued threats against Israel and tried to sound upbeat as Iran’s economy and rial currency has cratered under the weight of international sanctions.

Despite the international attention on the deal as talks in Vienna hang in the balance, it took Raisi well over an hour before fully acknowledging the ongoing negotiations. Tehran and Washington have traded written responses in recent weeks on the finer points of the roadmap, which would see sanctions lifted against Iran in exchange for it restricting its rapidly advancing nuclear program.

The International Atomic Energy Agency for years has sought for Iran to answer questions about man-made uranium particles found at undeclared sites. U.S. intelligence agencies, Western nations and the IAEA have said Iran ran an organized nuclear weapons program until 2003. Iran long has denied ever seeking nuclear weapons.

As a member of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, Iran is obligated to explain the radioactive traces and to provide assurances that they are not being used as part of a nuclear weapons program. Iran found itself criticized by the IAEA’s Board of Governors in June over its failure to answer questions about the sites to the inspectors’ satisfaction.

Raisi mentioned the traces — referring to its as a “safeguards” issue using the IAEA’s language.

“Without settlement of safeguard issues, speaking about an agreement has no meaning,” Raisi said.

Under the 2015 nuclear deal, Tehran could enrich uranium to 3.67%, while maintaining a stockpile of uranium of 300 kilograms (660 pounds) under constant scrutiny of IAEA surveillance cameras and inspectors. Then-President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew America from the accord in 2018.

As of the last public IAEA count, Iran has a stockpile of some 3,800 kilograms (8,370 pounds) of enriched uranium. More worrying for nonprofileration experts, Iran now enriches uranium up to 60% purity — a level it never reached before that is a short, technical step away from 90%. Those experts warn Iran has enough 60%-enriched uranium to reprocess into fuel for at least one nuclear bomb.

Amid the tensions, Israel is suspected in carrying out a series of attacks targeting Iranian nuclear sites, as well as on a prominent scientist. On Monday, Raisi directly threatened Israel.

Raisi said if Israel decides to carry out its threats to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, “they will see if anything from the Zionist regime will remain or not.”

At his first news conference, Raisi famously simply said “no” when asked if he would meet with President Joe Biden. Asked again Monday as the U.N. General Assembly looms next month, Raisi stuck to his earlier answer.

“There is no benefit for a meeting between us and him,” the president said. “Neither for the Iranian nation nor for the interests of our great nation.”

With the impending nuclear deal about to be signed, Israeli officials are taking no chances and pushing heavily Iranian forces in Syria and Gaza. Unless Prime Minister Yair Lapid can convince President Joe Biden to change specific clauses in the Iranian nuclear deal, Israel will have no choice but to attack the Islamic Republic.

For its part, Iran has surrounded Israel with proxies in Lebanon and Gaza armed with long range missiles – most of which are precision guided missiles (PGMs). These missiles are game changers and are the main reason that Israel has already started to attack these sorts of storage areas.

14 Syrian civilians were injured to varying degrees – not counting the Iranian officials that were stationed there.

Satellite images show heavy damage at a Syrian weapons installation near the city of Maysaf in the country’s northwestern region which was reportedly bombed by Israel on Thursday, the London-based Iran International reported on Sunday.

The pictures, of the Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), were released by Planet Labs, a public Earth imaging company based in San Francisco.

Ynet reported on Saturday that Russia recently relocated its S-300 air defense system away from Masyaf to bolster its military operations in Ukraine. 

Images provided by an Israeli satellite company confirmed that an S-300 battery that had been stationed near the SSRC was no longer in place, the report stated.

It is unclear how many of the 24 S-300 batteries known to be stationed in Syria have been removed by Russia, according to the report, which noted that some batteries do remain and could impede Israel’s ability to strike targets in Syria and Lebanon.

Russian forces based in Syria reported on Friday that four Israeli jets had launched four cruise missiles and 16 guided aerial bombs against a “research facility” in Masyaf on Thursday, Reuters reported. 

Syrian forces downed two missiles and seven guided bombs using “Russian-made anti-aircraft weapons,” according to the report, which cited the Russian news agencies Tass and RIA.

According to Ynet, Masyaf has become the principal production facility for Syrian and Iranian precision missiles and rockets used by Hezbollah and other Shi’ite militias.

Iranian missile and rocket components arrive regularly via the nearby Syrian sea port of Tartus, and are stored in vast underground bunkers at this installation, according to the report.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war-monitoring group based in London, reported on Saturday that explosions rocked Masyaf for six hours, adding that the blasts were caused by the detonation of medium-range surface-to-surface missiles manufactured at Masyaf under the supervision of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps experts.

The missiles were built over a period of more than a year and numbered more than a thousand, according to the report.

Iranian-made missiles were also transported to the warehouse over the past few months, according to SOHR.

On Thursday, the Syrian state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) accused Israel of conducting airstrikes in northwest Syria, claiming that two civilians were injured and that Syrian air defense systems had been activated, intercepting several Israeli missiles.

Speaking at U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) headquarters in Tampa, Florida Thursday, Defense Minister Benny Gantz warned against the Iranian nuclear threat ahead of the imminent signing of a renewed agreement between the Islamic Republic and the West.

“We all understand the need to ensure that Iran never has a nuclear umbrella, under which it is and its proxies will spread terror and threaten the world and the Middle East,” Gantz said.

On a quick visit to the U.S. in a last-ditch effort to prevent a new deal, Gantz was received in Florida by CENTCOM head Gen. Michael Kurilla and had a meeting at the headquarters, where they discussed increased cooperation and defense in the region – at sea, in the air and on land as well as cyber security – in the face of aggression, chiefly from Iran.

Gantz also toured the Central Military District and visited the KC-135 refueling squadron of the US Air Force.

“Israel’s cooperation with CENTCOM and the countries of the region is a game changer in the ability to maintain security, stability and peace in the Middle East, especially against Iran and its proxies,” Gantz said, the Hebrew-language Ynet news site reported.

“We will continue to deepen the cooperation, to expand the necessary actions to harm Iran’s couriers, and to make sure that Iran never has a nuclear weapon.”

Gantz is also slated to meet with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

“This will also be the message I will convey at the meeting with Sullivan,” the defense minister said. “During the meeting, the Israeli minister will make operative proposals to put pressure on Iran, and will of course express opposition to the very existence of the agreement and the elements in the conditions specified.”

Gantz reiterated Israel’s strong opposition to the nuclear deal.

“We will do everything we can to influence the agreement,” he said on Wednesday, ahead of his trip to America. Prime Minister Yair Lapid, Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, opposition leader and former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad director David Barnea, among others, joined in the plea to reject the deal – adding however, that Israel would not be obligated to abide by any such agreement.

Israel has long been warning about the dangers of the deal, noting Iran’s progress in uranium enrichment. In April, Gantz called for a “Plan B” over the deal, although he did not specify what that would entail.

The defense minister will be flying to Japan on Saturday night.

As the Biden administration pushes to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal with Iran, a request by Israeli Prime Minister Yair Laid for an emergency phone consultation was rebuffed by the White House because the president is still on a two-week vacation. The White House sources assured that the talk would be arranged eventually.

Lapid is displeased with the imminent agreement. In a briefing to foreign reporters on Wednesday, Lapid claimed that the deal, as it stood, did not even meet Biden’s minimum requirements.

“In our eyes, it does not meet the standards set by President Biden himself: preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear state,” Lapid said. “The countries of the West draw a red line, the Iranians ignore it, and the red line moves.”

“On the table right now is a bad deal. It would give Iran $100 billion a year that will be used to undermine stability in the Middle East and spread terror around the globe.” ” Lapid told the journalists, adding that it could also be used to fund used to fund “people who are trying to kill authors and thinkers in New York,”

“This money will fund the Revolutionary Guards. It will fund the Basij who oppress the Iranian people. It will fund more attacks on American bases in the Middle East. It will be used to strengthen Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad,” he charged, naming Iran-backed terror groups.

The report in Channel 13 news also claimed that when Defense Minister Benny Gantz arrives in Washington on Thursday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will be unavailable to speak with him. In the US, Gantz will hold a series of meetings at CENTCOM headquarters in Florida and meet with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington.

The Pentagon says U.S. military airstrikes in eastern Syria this week were a message to Iran and Tehran-backed militias that targeted American troops this month and several other times over the past year.

Colin Kahl, the undersecretary of defense for policy, told reporters on Wednesday that the U.S. airstrikes overnight on facilities used by militias backed by Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard demonstrated that “the United States will not hesitate to defend itself against Iranian and Iran-backed aggression when it occurs.”

He said the U.S. decision to launch the strikes was based on both the nature of the militia attacks on Aug. 15 at the al-Tanf Garrison, where U.S. troops are based in the south, and the fact that, based on recovered drone parts, “we believe we have Iran dead to rights on attribution.”

Hours after the U.S. strikes, two U.S. military locations in northeastern Syria near large oil and gas fields were hit with rocket fire.

According to U.S. Central Command, the rockets hit near Green Village and the Conoco gas field in Deir el-Zour province. One U.S. service member was treated for a minor injury and has been returned to duty, and two others were under evaluation for minor injuries.

CENTCOM said U.S. forces responded by destroying three vehicles and equipment used to launch some of the rockets, killing “two or three suspected Iran-backed militants.”

A statement from CENTCOM on Thursday said the U.S. airstrikes killed four terrorists and destroyed seven rocket launchers.

The developments show Iran-backed militias and the U.S. military have escalated tit-for-tat attacks, targeting military outposts and warehouses in the strategic Deir el-Zour province.

“We will respond appropriately and proportionally to attacks on our servicemembers,” CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael Kurilla said in a statement. “No group will strike at our troops with impunity. We will take all necessary measures to defend our people.”

The opposition war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Deir Ezzor 24 media outlet said the U.S. airstrikes targeted the Ayash Camp, run by the Fatimiyoun group made up of Shiite fighters from Afghanistan.

The war monitor reported that at least six Syrian and foreign terrorists were killed in the airstrikes, while Deir Ezzor 24 reported 10 deaths.

Deir el-Zour is a strategic province that borders Iraq and contains oil fields. Iran-backed terrorist groups and Syrian forces control the area and have often been the target of Israeli war planes in previous strikes.

In Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani issued a statement condemning the American strike “against the people and infrastructure of Syria.” He denied Iran had any link to those targeted.

Iran routinely denies arming terrorist groups that target U.S. forces in the region, despite weaponry linking back to them.

Kahl said the U.S. strikes underscore that while the U.S. continues to pursue negotiations with Iran to resume its compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, those talks are not connected at all to America’s willingness to take action when attacked.

“The threats that they engage in against our people in the region or elsewhere, are not linked to wherever we end up on the nuclear deal,” said Kahl. “It actually has nothing to do with our willingness and resolve to defend ourselves.”

CENTCOM said the U.S. strikes “took proportionate, deliberate action intended to limit the risk of escalation and minimize the risk of casualties.” It did not identify the targets or offer any casualty figures from the strikes, which the military said came at the orders of President Joe Biden.

“Today’s strikes were necessary to protect and defend U.S. personnel,” CENTCOM spokesman Col. Joe Buccino said in a statement.

Kahl said the militia’s coordinated attack on two U.S. facilities at al-Tanf at the same time this month fueled concerns that “Iran intends to do more of this and we wanted to disabuse them of any sense that that was a good idea.”

He said the U.S. initially identified 11 bunker targets at the site and ended up striking nine because there was evidence there may be people near two of the locations and the goal was not to cause casualties.

The U.S. Treasury said the Fatimiyoun group has fought numerous battles in Syria, and is led by Iran’s elite Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard.

“The Ayash warehouse is a very important one for Iran’s militias,” Deir Ezzor 24 CEO Omar Abu Layla told The Associated Press. “We expect that Iran will respond, either in al-Tanf or possibly in Iraq.”

In the Aug. 15 attack, drones allegedly launched by Iranian-backed militias targeted the al-Tanf Garrison used by American forces. Central Command described the assault as causing “zero casualties and no damage” at the time.

There was no immediate acknowledgment by Syria’s state-run media of the strikes hitting Deir el-Zour.

U.S. forces entered Syria in 2015, backing allied forces in their fight against the Islamic State group.

Palestinian media has always decried Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount, labeling any Jew at the site as a “settler storming al Aqsa”. But this week, Palestinian media reported several incidents involving Christians at the site, in the same manner, labeling conspicuously Christian visitors as “settlers”.

OnThursday the Palestinian news site,Ma’an , published a story claiming that Waqf guards on the Temple Mount confiscated “Biblical artifacts” from a “settler”. 

“The guards of Al-Aqsa Mosque confronted today, Thursday, a settler who stormed Al-Aqsa, along with a candlestick and biblical artifacts,” the article wrote.  “The settler stormed Al-Aqsa, among a group of tourists who stormed the mosque through the Mughrabi Gate, and the guards were able to seize him and prevent him from taking pictures in Al-Aqsa.”

It should be noted that the article inaccurately identifies the Temple Mount as “Al Aqsa Mosque” which is the grey-domed structure at the southern end of the Temple Mount. Non-Muslims may only enter the compound via the Mughrabi Gate and are prohibited from entering the Aqsa Mosque. The article implies that the “settler” wanted to photograph the images on the Temple Mount as a form of incitement.

The article in Ma’an was first reported by the pro-Israel blogger, Elder of Ziyon.

Ma’an posted images of a guard holding the ‘Biblical artifacts.’ The picture is a customary decoration common among Sephardi Jews featuring Kabbalistic writing and the name of God. This particular example features a seven-branched menorah. The Waqf guard also holds a seven-branched menorah that was confiscated from the “settler”.

Ever since it has become clear that the Biden administration will sign a revised nuclear deal with Iran, the countdown to war has begun.

Iran is planning on using its proxies to increase its flareups to learn about Israel’s defenses. While these proxies probe Israel, Iran will continue to build up Hezbollah until they are ready to attack.

Once the attack begins all the other proxies will jump in as well.

This is why organizations like Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas are critical to Iran’s plan. They are designed to start small skirmishes with Israel to break down Israel’s defenses.

The Tel Aviv school district will be using maps of Israel in the upcoming school year that display the Green Line, which marks a separation between the Judea and Samaria region and the rest of the Jewish State.

Notably, the move to use maps with the Green Line is in direct violation of the Education Ministry’s curriculum guidelines.

Hebrew-language media outlets reported that the move to the new maps came after a direct order from Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai.

“It is important to us that the students understand not only the city and the area where they live, but the entire country. They should know where each settlement is located, how many people live in it, and what the composition of the population is,” an official from the Tel Aviv municipality told left-wing newspaper Haaretz.

“It is important that they understand the borders between us and other countries, as well as the borders of Israeli sovereignty and the complex reality in certain areas.”

The official added that the Tel Aviv school district’s staff and administrators will know best how to “present the Israeli situation as it is in reality – sometimes controversial, sometimes subject to change and sometimes changing according to government political policy.”

Reports of the new maps immediately sparked backlash from the Education Ministry and community leaders in Judea and Samaria, who slammed the municipality for making decisions independent of nation-wide educational guidelines and reinforcing the concept that the region is not a legitimate part of Israel.

“The map was not submitted for approval by the Education Ministry and therefore it is not approved for study and not even for use as a poster on the walls,” said an Education Ministry spokesperson in a press statement.

“The only entity authorized to determine the maps of Israel is the Israel Mapping Center,” the spokesperson added, calling the Tel Aviv municipality’s decision “amateurish and unprofessional.”

“The Mayor of Tel Aviv Ron Huldai is referring to a line which is irrelevant and does not represent the consciousness of the Israeli public,” said Gush Etzion Regional Council Head Shlomo Ne’eman.

“Let’s remember that in the last Knesset election, Huldai failed on a national level and quit because he did not receive the trust of the general voting public. Now from his perch in Tel Aviv, he is trying to manipulate consciousness in regard to the inheritance of our ancestors.”

“There is a great need to apply sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, where hundreds of thousands of Jewish citizens of the State of Israel are treated as second class and any fool can decide to remove us from the map at any time,” Ne’eman added.

“The State of Israel is both ready to protect its assets and ready to reach a deal with the Lebanese government, via American mediation, on the Sidon deposit,” he said, in reference to another gas field known in Lebanon as Qana.

Israeli soldiers in the North have been placed on high alert in case of any hostilities between Hezbollah and the IDF. Iran may be trying to use Hezbollah as a way of weakening Israel in order to prevent the Jewish State from attacking them.

With the nuclear deal looking close to being accepted, Israel is said to be preparing a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. In case of hostilities Hezbollah will certainly be activated.

Caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid made it clear to France’s President Emmanuel Macron that Israel is not bound by the nuclear deal.

“The Prime Minister made clear to the President that Israel opposes a return to the deal and would not be obligated by such an agreement,” the PM’s office said on Monday in a statement, adding that the country “will continue to do everything to prevent Iran from attaining a nuclear capability”.

For his part Alternative Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the following:

 Diligently following a master plan worked out over 10 years ago, the Palestinian Authority is laying claim to large tracts of Israeli state land through illegal building. Resembling Potemkin villages, many structures stand empty, hollow, windowless, alone or clumped together. The land grab has been hugely successful because Israeli countermeasures have been so feeble, Jews living in the area tell JNS.

“Their side is focused, determined and has a well-developed plan. Our side is unfocused, indecisive and in many cases not even aware of what’s going on,” said Michael Sperber, a family lawyer who lives in Efrat, a city of 15,000 about a half-hour’s drive south of Jerusalem in the Judean hills.

Sperber, a long-time resident of Efrat (he served as deputy mayor 15 years ago) has taken it upon himself to document illegal Arab construction in the area. From Dagan, the city’s northernmost neighborhood, Sperber has a window seat onto Arab buildings advancing from Bethlehem across the narrow valley below and up toward Efrat.

Efrat Mayor Oded Revivi told JNS that, “The illegal building that’s taking place by the Arabs has increased so dramatically in the last year that it’s out of control. If we judge according to where these activities are happening, they’re definitely in places which you can see they’re trying to create facts on the ground.”

Revivi noted that if the illegal structures are not hooked up to the sewage system this could lead to pollution of underground reservoirs, and if they are erected too close to roads then this could prevent the widening of lanes in the future.

Sperber believes the stakes are even higher.

“The Palestinians are at every entrance to the city. Efrat will be surrounded—and not just Efrat. All over Judea and Samaria, we’re being encircled, closed in. My main effort in the last three years has been to wake up the government so that it will understand that we’re losing this fight. We need to do something, and not just here and there, but something organized,” he said.

Sperber offers tours to politicians and the press. Even well-informed VIPs are shocked by what they see, he said, naming several well-known Knesset members and commentators who he says admitted they had not grasped the seriousness of the problem.

Efrat is the perfect spot to see the entire Palestinian plan in miniature, Sperber said, gesturing at the illegal dirt roads crisscrossing ridges and the eclectic variety of buildings in various stages of construction.

“The building pattern is the same everywhere and follows seven stages,” he told JNS from a hill overlooking the valley. “It starts with a greenhouse, then a small shed for tools, followed by a bigger shed for more tools. Then they build a small house and a bigger house. After that, they build a multi-story home with five to six floors. Then they shoot,” he said.

Sperber emphasizes that illegal building gone unchecked leads to terrorism. His warnings gained added emphasis after his home was hit by Palestinian fire from Bethlehem on July 25. Four bullets hit the house. Three hit the storage shed. Another three rounds were found on the patio.

While an Israel Police spokeswoman told JNS the shooting was likely not purposely directed at Sperber’s home, Sperber is not convinced. He noted that the shots were fired individually over a period of six to seven minutes rather than as a single burst, which could possibly have been an accident (Palestinians in Bethlehem frequently shoot in the air during celebrations).

Also, Sperber is known to the Palestinians for his activism. He proudly points out a half-constructed building in the valley that he put a stop to together with other volunteers. An Arab speaker, he also visits the Palestinian villages to talk to residents and counts some as friends.

Efrat ranks high among the P.A.’s priorities due to its strategic location, he said. It’s one of two places in Judea and Samaria that cut the territorial contiguity of what the Palestinians claim for their future state.

“You see those two hills there? That’s Givat Eitam. It’s part of Efrat and slated for development. It’s also known as E-2,” Sperber said. “It cuts Palestinian contiguity between Bethlehem and Hebron. That’s why they’re always trying to get a foothold up there.”

(The other place that cuts Palestinian contiguity is E-1, located east of Jerusalem and part of the Israeli city of Ma’ale Adumim.)

Sperber says the Palestinians are acting according to a detailed program, the Fayyad Plan, developed by former Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in 2009. Its goal is to take over as much of Judea and Samaria as possible through illegal construction and agricultural projects.

Naomi Kahn, director of the International Division of Regavim, an Israeli NGO focusing on land-use issues, said the plan focuses on gaining “commanding vantage points” over major traffic arteries and on cutting off and isolating Jewish communities from one another.

Pointing to a five-story building in the valley, Sperber said: “The owner of that home is Nassar. He owns most of the 22 stone-cutting mills in Judea and Samaria. Four years ago, when I came to this neighborhood, he started putting up that building. Only it wasn’t here. It was in a location 100 meters further on. In the middle of the night, it was a Friday night, the Palestinian police and the Palestinian Mukhabarat [the P.A. intelligence agency], came and arrested him and his friends. The reason was that he hadn’t built according to the Salam Fayyad plan. So he moved the building to be part of the plan.”

The plan also calls for tall buildings because, in their view, such buildings “look like a country,” Sperber said. “Only they stand empty because there isn’t that much housing demand.”

As per the Oslo Accords, Judea and Samaria is divided into three zones: Areas A, B and C. Area A is fully under Palestinian control. Area B is under Palestinian civil control with the caveat that Israel has the right to enter for security reasons and Area C is under full Israeli control.

“Sixty-two percent of the total area is Area C. Only 3% of that is taken up by settlements, meaning 97% is open land. The Israeli government holds it for future negotiations and the Palestinians know it. That’s why they build most of their buildings in this area,” said Sperber.

The P.A. only puts a small fraction of its budget towards Areas A and B, even though there’s plenty of space in both, Regavim’s Kahn said. “They’re pouring all their resources into politically motivated construction. Also, the P.A. is incentivizing Palestinians from Areas A and B to move to Area C. They pay people to move in. They offer all kinds of incentives. They offer stipends for university studies. You name it.”

Listing neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem like Silwan and Issawiya, Kahn said, “All those areas are packed full of people given incentives to move in.”

The story is as much one of Israel’s failure to enforce its own rules as it is the Palestinians’ intent to break them, said Sperber.

“We are the problem,” he said, noting that Israel’s Civil Administration has allowed the situation to deteriorate.

The Civil Administration is the civilian arm of Israel’s military government in Judea and Samaria, responsible for building, zoning and infrastructure, among much else. The department falls under the aegis of the Defense Ministry and reports directly to the defense minister.

The Civil Administration’s spokesperson told JNS that the numbers of illegal buildings are confidential.

Regavim has come up with its own figures—80,000 illegal Palestinian Arab structures in Area C of Judea and Samaria. Kahn said her group arrived at that number by counting the buildings one by one using aerial photography. “We compared aerial images taken every two years for the past 10 years to track construction, demolition, agricultural work, new roads and other infrastructure projects,” she said.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 8,665 structures were demolished since 2009. Of those, 79% were in Area C and 20% in eastern Jerusalem. So far in 2022, 500 structures were demolished.

In recent years, the Civil Administration has come under sharp criticism from Israeli watchdog groups. It has been accused not only of passivity but of actually facilitating Palestinian land grabs. Sperber says that from his experience, this is the case.

“When a typical Arab lays claim to a piece of land, without any evidence, he calls up the DCL [the District Coordination and Liaison officer, the representative who mediates between the army, the settlements and Palestinian residents in Judea and Samaria], whose direct number he has on his cell phone, and the officer shows up and stops us Jews from doing anything to prevent his illegal seizure,” he said.

Liaison officers will often give Arabs permission to do something and then check afterwards whether it was legal or not. When JNS met with Sperber on Aug. 10, he said that only a few days before, Palestinians had begun plowing near a 2,000-year-old aqueduct running to Solomon’s Pools, ancient reservoirs lying two miles southwest of Bethlehem. The liaison officer gave them the go-ahead to farm near the aqueduct even though there’s a law against any activities 100 meters from the site, he said.

Sperber immediately brought the problem to the attention of the Defense Ministry. In that case, the Civil Administration did act and stopped the farming. In Sperber’s opinion, the administration would not have acted if it was just an issue of illegally farming on Israeli state land. It was only because of the risk to the aqueduct, which was, in fact, damaged, that anything was done, he believes.

“This is just one example of what happens every day,” he said.

The Civil Administration did not respond to repeated requests from JNS to comment on the criticism.

Efrat Mayor Revivi said that the Civil Administration’s actions to counter the problem constitute a “drop in a bucket,” basing his claim on the amount of illegal building he sees, the complaints the city files and how quickly the administration reacts. “They will go and present a warning letter and then it basically can drag out for months, if not years, until the legal process actually gets a move on. We’ve got an example of a house they’ve managed to build five stories high during the time that it’s been under observation,” Revivi said.

Sperber lists several reasons why the situation has reached a crisis point.

“First, we woke up too late. They started with the Fayyad Plan in 2009. Their budget is $250 billion. They have 600 workers in a land registry department. They have a minister devoted to this. Every time I go up to the hills of Givat Eitam, they immediately send people. They’re measuring the area. They’re planting. We’re just a bunch of civilians trying to do something. Our government is barely acting at all,” he said.

The P.A. also receives extensive foreign support for its activities, both from the European Union and individual European governments, he said.

Regavim’s Kahn confirmed this, saying, “The Europeans pay for the planning. They pay for the engineering. They pay for the legal support. They pay for the infrastructure. They pay for construction, even though they know it’s illegal, and they build into the contracts the possible demolition. They also build into the contract legal representation if and when it comes to court because it’s illegal.”

Sperber also noted a cultural disconnect. Arabs respect those who are strong and defend their rights, he said, while Israel appears vacillating and weak and unwilling to defend its rights. Also, Israel fears pressure from the U.S. and Europe.

Finally, he said nature abhors a vacuum: “If there’s an open area and Israel doesn’t lay hold of it, the Palestinians will.”

The P.A.’s efforts to seize as much land in Judea and Samaria as possible are not widely covered in the Israeli media and stories about it are generally found only in the press to the right of the political map. Neither has it appeared as a campaign issue in the run-up to Israeli elections in November.

Sperber wants to make it a mainstream issue. He is working to interest centrist politicians. He argues that even Israelis who favor a two-state solution should be alarmed that one of those states should spring up not through negotiations, but through land theft.

Young Jewish Americans that have a connection to Israel are realizing their future is not in America. Despite the real challenges in Israel, in the coming decades, prospects for real advancement and security as a Jew are far better in the Holy Land than the USA.

Instead of endorsing a two-state solution, as far as Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz is concerned, Israeli territorial concessions are a bad idea.

In the last decade, seemingly every formerly unbreakable rule of American political life has been broken by former President Donald Trump or his opponents.

But perhaps nothing that has occurred would be quite as remarkable as what would happen if the Republican Jewish Coalition gets their way in a race that is the group’s top priority in the 2022 midterms.

In a packed Philadelphia hotel ballroom with local and national media present, the RJC rolled out its campaign this week to help elect Dr. Mehmet Oz, a Muslim and Turkish American to an open Pennsylvania Senate seat.

In doing so, they hope to play a part in making history for American Muslims since if he wins, Oz would be the first member of his faith to serve in the U.S. Senate.

It would also boost their party’s chances of winning back the Senate. At the same time, they will also be assuring that the seat will be held by an ardent supporter of Israel.

RJC head Matthew Brooks and David Friedman, who served as U.S. ambassador to Israel in the Trump administration and was an interlocutor at the event for Oz, sought to frame their support for the candidate in the context of the expanding circle of peace between Jews and Muslims that rests at the core of the Abraham Accords.

It didn’t hurt that the event came on the same day that it was announced that Turkey and Israel will resume full diplomatic relations after rising tensions between the two countries due to the support that the Islamist government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has given to the Hamas terrorist movement.

Oz, who narrowly won a GOP primary largely due to an endorsement from Trump, is a citizen of both the United States and Turkey, and currently trails his Democratic opponent, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, in the polls.

Republicans have to hold this seat in order to have a chance to tip the balance in a 50-50 Senate that is currently controlled by the Democrats due to Vice President Kamala Harris’s tie-breaking vote.

Though he was born in Delaware to immigrants from Turkey, he went back to his parents’ homeland and served in the Turkish Army in his 20s in order to preserve his dual citizenship. He then returned to the United States, where he earned degrees from Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania before going on to a career as a professor at Columbia University and as a widely respected heart surgeon.

But he is best known as the host of the “Dr. Oz Show,” a daily daytime talk program devoted to medicine and health topics that was launched by the production company owned by TV superstar Oprah Winfrey, on whose own show he had been a frequent guest.

As a TV host, Oz was no stranger to controversy as his endorsement of various weight loss and anti-aging products of dubious efficacy was denounced by many doctors. He was also bitterly criticized for giving opponents of vaccinations a hearing on his show.

During the coronavirus pandemic, he was similarly condemned by the medical establishment for saying that keeping the schools closed as part of lockdowns was doing more harm than good, though in retrospect, that seems reasonable in some places given the educational and mental-health damage done to children who were at low risk from the virus.

Democrats think the association with Trump and having an extremist at the head of the GOP ticket in the form of Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, will doom Oz. But he’s hoping that appealing to pro-Israel sentiment will win him votes.

It is customary for candidates to try to curry favor with American Jews by speaking of their support for the Jewish state. But those who turned out for the RJC event were not given the usual pro-Israel boilerplate. There were elements of the familiar in Oz’s attempts to link his family’s past to Jewish history and his talk about how a trip to Israel left him deeply moved.

Yet he minced no words about the U.S.-Israel relationship and whether or not Washington should, as Muslim and liberal Jewish groups often urge, pressure the Jewish state to make concessions to the Palestinians.

To the contrary, he staked out a position that is actually closer to that of former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu than Trump. Instead of endorsing a two-state solution, as far as Oz is concerned, Israeli territorial concessions are a bad idea.

“I don’t believe that Israel should give up any territory,” he declared to the cheers of those in attendance, who were handed out signs saying “Pro-Israel, Pro-Oz,” “Jews for Oz” and the doctor’s name printed in Hebrew and English, as well as some declaring that Fetterman was aligned with the far-left, anti-Israel congressional “Squad.”

Bashing Fetterman for being endorsed by the left-wing J Street lobby—even though the Democratic candidate backed Israel’s right to self-defense, as reported by JNS—Oz said the criticism of Israel that has become commonplace among left-wing Democrats was due to intersectional beliefs that lead them to oppose anyone with “power.”

He said he admired Israel’s power, without which correctly pointed out “there would be no Israel.” He opposes any limitations on aid to Israel and denounced the Biden administration’s efforts to appease Iran.

These are the sorts of things we’re used to hearing from evangelical Christians who are, if anything, more vocal in their hardline support of Israel than most liberal Jews, who are often uncomfortable with the Jewish state’s positions. But it is heady stuff coming from a self-described “secular Muslim” whose skills as a speaker were on display at the RJC event.

Indeed, Friedman saw Oz’s support for Israel as in keeping with his own experiences helping to broker normalization agreements with Arab and Muslim countries.

If, as he said he recently told Trump, “it is easier to get a kosher sandwich in Dubai than in Washington,” it stands to reason that an American Muslim could be just as comfortable in supporting that expanding circle of peace for a secure Israel as anyone else.

That is not the message that groups like the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which was founded as a front for Hamas in the United States but now claims to be a civil-rights organization, supports.

CAIR is virulently anti-Semitic, yet it is widely assumed by the mainstream media to speak for most Muslims. Their opinions are echoed by others on the left who have denounced Oz as not fit to be the first Muslim U.S. senator because he is supported by Trump.

Like most other non-Jewish politicians who may think backing Israel is a path to Jewish support, he’s about to learn that this is a myth. The overwhelming majority of Jews in Pennsylvania are, like elsewhere, liberals and loyal Democrats who don’t prioritize Israel as conservative and Republican Jews do.

If Oz faces an uphill struggle to win in November, it is due to concerns about his retaining his Turkish citizenship (which he says he will renounce if he wins); the fact that he spent most of his life living outside Pennsylvania, as well as the notoriety he earned as a television personality who backed products most doctors shunned; and some gaffes that make him look out-of-touch with voters, not his foreign-policy positions.

Still, win or lose, the fact that the first Muslim-American to have a reasonable shot at winning a Senate seat is someone who has placed unquestioned support for Israel among his priorities ought to be viewed as an encouraging sign by all those who care about the Jewish state.

In much of the Muslim world, there is still strong resistance to normalization with Israel that is rooted in pervasive anti-Semitism. That’s why even Democrats who won’t vote for Oz should be cheering the idea that a Muslim candidate is willing to speak up for the Jewish state.

If the Abraham Accords truly represent the future, we are going to need a lot more moderate Muslims like Oz who, whatever their political affiliations, are willing to stand with the Jewish community in support of Israel.

In a rare show of support, four Palestinian terrorist groups backed Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas’ statement last week in Germany that Israel has committed “50 holocausts” against his people.

Abbas outraged German, American and Israeli leaders when he refused to apologize for the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics perpetrated 50 years ago by Palestinian terrorists linked to his Fatah group.

Instead, he said, “If you want to go over the past, go ahead. I have 50 slaughters that Israel committed…50 massacres…50 holocausts.”

On Friday, the PA and its ruling Fatah faction organized a hero’s welcome for Abbas upon his return to Ramallah, where he was praised him for “telling the truth about Israeli crimes” in Germany, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Following the announcement that German police would launch a probe into Abbas for possible incitement to hatred, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the PLO’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) slammed what they said was Germany’s “bias toward the Israeli occupation and the denial of the historic rights of our Palestinian people and their suffering.”

The four terrorist organizations blasted the world’s “double standards” and “campaign of incitement” against the president that ensued since he spoke at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Schultz on Tuesday.

These groups are usually fiercely opposed to Abbas’ majority Fatah faction, with Hamas, by far the largest, taking the lead in trying to overthrow Fatah’s leadership of the PA in Judea and Samaria after having done so successfully in the Gaza Strip in 2007. But in this case, they stood by the PA leader.

Hamas “rejects and condemns the announcement by the German police,” senior Hamas official Hussam Badran stated. “Once again international powers are proving their bias toward the Israeli occupation and the denial of the historic rights of our Palestinian people and their suffering.”

“No matter how these forces try to distort the truth and ignore what has happened to the Palestinian people by applying double standards, they will not succeed in obliterating the Palestinian narrative,” he added.
Badran’s comment was echoed by Fatah officials as well as their rivals.

Terrorists opened fire on a convoy of Jewish worshippers en route to Joseph’s Tomb near Nablus (Shechem) overnight Wednesday, leading to a firefight which left one of the perpetrators dead.

Jews wishing to pray at the holy site are accompanied by Israeli security forces, as the tomb has been the site of numerous terrorist attacks in the past.

Late Wednesday evening, when the Israeli military and civilian vehicles entered the Palestinian Authority-controlled city, local armed groups opened fire.

The IDF responded by returning fire, and according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, an 18-year-old man was killed in the exchange. Another 31 people were said to be wounded, including three reported to be hospitalized in critical condition.

No Israeli troops or civilians were wounded during the firefight.

Among the Jewish worshippers who traveled to Joseph’s Tomb on Wednesday evening were a number of Israeli politicians, including Religious Zionism MK Ofir Sofer.

“Following the recent shooting incidents, I arrived tonight, together with hundreds of worshipers, with a clear statement that Joseph’s Tomb is ours forever and terrorism will not deter us,” Sofer wrote on Twitter shortly after the attack.

“Those who don’t want us here, don’t want us in the Galilee, the Negev and the center either. Only a persistent fight and belief in our right to our land will lead to a situation where Jews will be able to pray safely and in daylight at Joseph’s Tomb.”

Palestinians have repeatedly claimed that Joseph’s Tomb is an Islamic shrine and that visiting Jews are attempting to “Judaize” and lay false claim to the site.

But despite the historically incorrect assertion that the site is holy to Muslims, locals have repeatedly vandalized and set fire to the tomb.
Earlier this year, Jewish worshippers were shot and wounded while traveling to the site.

Eighteen organizations sent a letter drafted by the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) to U.S. President Joe Biden Wednesday, urging him to deny an entry visa to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation in the interest of national security, ZOA’s national president Morton Klein announced in a media statement.
The Iranian president is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly next month.

Raisi is subject to U.S. sanctions and is a human rights violator who was a member of Iran’s notorious “death committees,” which ordered the killing of thousands of Iranians, the letter states.

The letter details pressing national security concerns, including Iran’s recent threat to activate a nuclear weapons program and use nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) “to turn New York into ruins and hell” and to “turn the West and Israel’s nightmare into a reality”; Iran’s pursuit of assassination plots against U.S. residents and officials in New York and elsewhere in the U.S.; and Iran’s use of diplomats to carry out terror attacks.

The letter also sets forth precedents for denying visas, and explains that the UN Headquarters agreement was signed subject to U.S. law – a U.S. authorizing resolution which includes a national security reservation.

Seven prominent Senators previously sent a letter urging President Biden to deny a visa to Raisi. Former Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mark Wallace published a Wall Street Journal op-ed last week urging the president to deny the visa.

Notwithstanding the State Department’s announcement that it will issue the visa to Raisi, ZOA will continue urging Biden to cancel it, Klein said.

With the Gulf States forming an evolving economic alliance with Israel and the growing realization that “palestine” has become more of a liability than anything else, Abbas is fast becoming a persona non-grata.

Antisemitism continues to explode in North America. The latest incident occurred in Montreal, Canada where an arab man stabbed an orthodox Jew on the street.
The video captured the incident and was shared across arab social media channels. The arab was a fellow coworker of the Jew, who was recently hired at the meat processing plant. The attacker used scissors and gave the Jewish man lacerations under his eye.

In preparation for the September gathering of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Palestinian leadership is conducting extensive lobbying to achieve full UN recognition for the “State of Palestine.”

Such recognition, would contravene international law, as delineated in the 1934 “Convention on Rights and Duties of States” and would necessitate a positive recommendation of all five of the permanent members of the UN Security Council that would be followed by the approval of two-thirds of the UNGA.

To further this goal, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian representatives have been in contact and raised the subject with world leaders and UN officials.

“Permanent Representative of Palestine at the UN in New York Riyad Mansour said that the [PA] leadership is holding contacts at the highest levels led by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, in order to demand full membership for the State of Palestine in the UN, and thus to preserve the two-state solution.

In statements to [the official PA] radio [station] The Voice of Palestine today, Thursday [July 28, 2022], Mansour added that the political and diplomatic processes being undertaken by the leadership led by the president are being carried out with heads of state, including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, King of Jordan Abdullah II, and members of the [UN] Security Council, in order to demand full membership for the State of Palestine…

He explained that the Palestinian demands were presented in the speech of the State of Palestine during the Security Council’s open meeting, and that they are being examined by the council’s members. A response to them will be given soon.” [WAFA, official PA news agency, July 28, 2022]

A week later, the PA official daily updated on the initiative saying that Mansour had met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and that Guterres had welcomed the move and promised to assist the Palestinians with the relevant actors:

“Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine at the UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York yesterday [Aug. 3, 2022]. Mansour gave the secretary-general a letter from [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas on the recent developments and the meetings with many heads of states. He mentioned Palestine’s initiative – which the president raised during his meetings with US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Jordanian King Abdullah II, and others – on [giving] full membership to the State of Palestine at the UN, as a just act and in order to save the two-state solution…

The secretary-general welcomed this initiative and promised that he would help vis-à-vis the relevant parties. He expressed a desire to meet with President Abbas during the session of the UN General Assembly.” [Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 4, 2022]

Hosting a delegation from the US Congress, PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh also called on Congress to recognize the “State of Palestine” as a means to express the US belief in a “two-state solution”:

“If the current American administration believes in the two-state solution in the 1967 borders, the most beneficial thing is for it to recognize the State of Palestine and vote in favor of recognizing us as a state with full membership in the UN.” [Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Aug. 3, 2022]

As Palestinian Media Watch exposed, in his speech at last year’s UNGA meeting, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas demonstrated exactly why he is no partner for peace.

In a long diatribe, Abbas:

Bemoaned the “catastrophe” of Israel’s creation;
Rewrote history claiming that the Palestinians had never been presented with “a genuine and serious initiative to achieve peace”;
Demanded that Israel agree to flood itself with millions of so-called “Palestinian refugees”;
Whitewashed the PA’s continuous breaches of the Oslo Peace Accords including its terror promotion and terror rewards;
Invented the occupied “Palestinian territories” (referring to Gaza that Israel captured from Egypt and to Judea and Samaria, that Israel liberated from the illegal Jordanian occupation) that were never under “Palestinian” rule;
Reiterated that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the “legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people”, even though the majority of Palestinians no longer see the PLO as such.
Abbas continued by setting down an ultimatum in which he gave Israel one year to capitulate to all his demands or suffer the consequences:

“To ensure our initiative is not open-ended, we must state that Israel, the occupying Power, has one year to withdraw from the Palestinian territory it occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, and we are ready to work throughout this year on the delineation of borders and solving all final status issues under the auspices of the international Quartet and in accordance with United Nations resolutions. If this is not achieved, why maintain recognition of Israel based on the 1967 borders? Why maintain this recognition?”

That year has now passed. During the year, as PMW exposed, Abbas and the PLO did a little more saber rattling about their decision to revoke their recognition of Israel.

Now it appears that Abbas has decided to double down on his goal of inventing the “State of Palestine” by demanding full UN membership.

In 2012, the “State of Palestine” was granted symbolic UN non-member observer state status, joining only the Holy See in holding that unique status. At the time, the PA’s efforts were led by terror-mom Latifa Abu Hmeid, who has five sons serving life sentences for the murder of Israelis and a sixth son who was killed in an attempted arrest, after he too murdered an Israeli.

The only other place in which the “State of Palestine” exists is as a legal fiction in the International Criminal Court as part of its mission to persecute Israel and Israeli officials.

The 1934 Convention on Rights and Duties of States (aka the “Montevideo Convention”) sets out the minimum requirements to achieve statehood.

Since it is clear that the Palestinian entity does not meet the conditions set out in the Montevideo Convention – i.e it does not have a defined territory; it does not have a permanent population; it does not have a government in total control of the territory it claims; and it certainly does not have the capacity to engage in foreign relations – the Palestinian leadership is trying to artificially gain statehood status via the UN.

The problem with the Palestinian approach is that the UN does not possess any authority to recognize the existence of a State. The UN can only admit into its ranks a “state” that already exists.

According to the UN Charter (articles 4, 18 and 27) the UN can only admit a new state if 9 (including all of the 5 permanent members) of the 15 members of the UN Security Council recommend doing so and that recommendation is adopted by two-thirds of the states who are members in the UNGA.

The Israeli military court extended the detention of the head of Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, Bassam Saadi, for six days.


Islamic Jihad in Gaza responded by threatening to renew attacks unless Saadi is released. The ceasefire which capped three days of fighting between Israel and the Islamic Jihad in Gaza is still considered to be fragile with both sides already expecting it to collapse.

Part of the ceasefire terms that Egypt negotiated between Israel and the Islamic Jihad was for Israel to release both Bassam Saadi and another security prisoner Khalil Awawdeh. However, this appears to contradict what the Israeli government promised it would do.

“I don’t want to simply promise they won’t be released. We don’t hold people in prison for nothing,” Defense Minister Benny Gantz told Channel 12 news in an interview.

It doesn’t appear that Israel is ready to release the two prisoners, pushing the ball back into Islamic Jihad’s court.

The father of the wanted terrorist killed in an IDF raid in Nablus (Shechem) on Monday morning is a member of the Palestinian Authority’s Preventive Security Service (PSS), a body that partners with Israel on security coordination and is comparable to Israel’s Shin Bet security agency.

Ibrahim Nabulsi was killed in a massive firefight with Israeli troops who surrounded his home as he refused to surrender. He narrowly evaded arrest by Israeli security forces on two previous occasions.

A message from the PSS expressing condolences to Nabulsi’s family after his death revealed that the slain terrorist’s father, Al’aa, holds the rank of colonel within the organization.
